Goshikinuma Ponds is a charming destination that showcases a sequence of lakes. These bodies of water were formed by volcanoes and are widely known for their varying hues. It's an ideal spot for a leisurely stroll, particularly on a sunny weekday as it offers hassle-free access from the parking lot situated at both ends. For added convenience, visitors can take the bus back to the trailhead after hiking one way for 250.
Absolutely beautiful hiking spot. You can easily walk along multiple lake on foot. Round trip to the parking spot can be adult done in 2hrs or less. No need to have heavy hiking gear and can be done with small children too. There are few boat rental and cafe and restaurant too. Parking was free. Totally recommended.

A great walk on a sunny weekday, easy access from the free parking lot on either end. We hiked one way and took the bus back to the trail head for ¥250. We ate a delicious lunch at the west entrance, highly recommend the Aizu sauce katzu cutlet
Our 9 year old daughters did the hike without difficulty. Lovely boardwalks protecting the marsh lands and gave perfect photo platforms. Beautiful temperature compared to the valley. 100% recommend it for families or really anyone.
The visitor center at the other end of the trail was great, but not a lot of English interpretation. Clean bathroom!

Really awesome view. There is a 4km trail people can walk in the woods and alongside the lakes. Would love to walk more but there is still snow in early April so make sure you wear the right boots.

I went in winters, January start - it was snow everywhere. The autumn colors were obviously not seen. I saw something different. The place is totally a hidden trek during this time, no one to be seen around and the bus timings are with long gaps. Just look at the view - Photos are not black and white. I saw the bear sign late and nobody was there and the heavy snow was falling from the trees, it made me ache. Follow here in autumn season for the fun. Wil be going back again, it was beautiful with the frozen lakes too.

Absolutely stunning hiking trail in winter. The snow makes the area stunning. And walking through the snow with snow boots(needs rental of wide racket like shoes) is great. Doing the entire trail is better than returning after slight ventures into either end. Snow is deep in winter and boots/guide is mandatory. We did it without a guide.
Check beforehand if the visitor centre is open or not. We had to rent from a far away shop. Taxis can be booked from the nearby kankou centre.

Great little hike, two and a half hours return even if you walk and photos slowly, very Beautiful if you come in fall season, overflow parking is very close to the entrance, so no need to wait your parking at the main lot.

Beautiful place to hike, especially in the fall, although it gets crowded during the peak season. The lakes have some of the biggest koi fish I have ever seen.

Scenic lakes pepper this 1.5 hour, 2.5 mile hike. The trail is fairly easy and wide, though muddy in places if it has recently rained. I recommend parking at the 裏磐梯高原駅(バス停) bus stop and taking the ¥250 ride to 五色沼入口駅(バス停). From there, you can begin the hike and eventually end up back at your car. Great way to spend a morning!

If you are an able body you should do this beautiful wander. It’s not for wheelchairs or prams. Every season has something to offer. It’s well serviced with tourist cafes at either end. There is a lot of info about the volcano on signs and online.
The Morohashi Museum of Modern Art showcases surrealistic artwork, featuring a collection of pieces created by the renowned artist Salvador Dalí. The museum is set in picturesque surroundings and is easily accessible to visitors. Although the building itself is large, only the first floor is open for exhibition. However, this does not detract from the vast array of sculptures and paintings on display that are definitely worth seeing.
Nice view!! A place must visit. Unfortunately inside the museum, we are not allowed to take📷.

Good selection of Dali’s work and themed exhibits.
But...not a word of English or any other foreign language, making it completely inaccessible for visitors. In this day and age, would it really take so much to run the little test they have next to some photos through google translate?
So only worth visiting if you are skilled in Japanese or with someone who doesn’t mind translating.
Building and location is stunning though.

The museum is amazingly beautiful and is easy to access to. The building is large unfortunately only the first floor is opened for exhibition. Still there are plenty paintings and sculptures by Dali which are very worthy to see. Make sure to check and confirm the exact date of the open season though. I have planned my trip since Nov 2018. At that time when I checked its website it stated it’s closed from Dec to Apr, and it wasn’t until the late Feb 2019 the website confirmed that it would be reopened from Apr 20 to Nov 24 in 2019.

Honestly I can’t give the review for the inside as when I arrive it was near 5PM, which is the closing time. Fyi, even they close at 5PM, the museum shop close at 4.30 along with the last entrances. They allow you to use the toilet inside the museum tho!
If you are a huge art fan don’t miss it because this is the 3rd biggest Savador Dali museum in the world and they are the one that showcases Salavdor Dali’s biggest artwork, 4x3m.

Lake Hibara is a picturesque body of water that was created by volcanic activity. The lake boasts stunning views, with a blue color theme present throughout the scenery, including the sky and floating islands in the middle of the lake. Visitors can partake in various activities such as boating, hiking, fishing, and camping in this serene location. The lake is situated amidst mountainous surroundings that create a breathtaking landscape for visitors to behold.
Blue themed it was. Blue sky, blue lake; floating islands in between; beautiful landscapes, serene scene with cold air gusting through you with dim sunlight on horizon.

With so many freshwater lakes, Fukushima is an ideal place for those who like to paddle.
There are many places where you can rent your own canoe and explore independently.
If you are a beginner there are opportunities to join small groups with an instructor, who will introduce you to the basics of paddling and safety on the water, and then lead you into easy but exhilarating canoeing routes.
The calm waters of Lake Onogawa and Lake Hibara are perfect for leisurely rides. Lake Inawashiro offers a very long coastline, suitable for the more experienced.

Only a few flowers are blooming in the distance.
Still, it was sunny and the contrast between the lake surface, the blue sky, and the green wetland was beautiful, so I'm glad I visited.
There weren't many people walking around, so I was able to take a leisurely walk.
I encountered a bear near the fork in the road leading to the wetland beyond the rest area.
Judging from the size, I guess it's a bear.
Both the bear and I were immediately surprised and ran away.

Carp were being released
In the past, there was a time when they were released into the river because they eat weeds, and even now they are released into dirty rivers.
When a carp eats the grass in the wetland of a swamp, grows up, and dies, it turns into a mass of eutrophic sludge. The grass and other vegetation that sucks up the nutrient is attacked and weakened by another intentional person. The number of carp, which have no natural enemies, increases in the swamp. will turn into sludge

4hours from Tokyo by car but we’ll worth it! It is behind Mt Bandai about 20km and the last few km’s are very deep in the backcountry…but the snow is that much better!
Snow Scoots and Snow Moto’s are 100% welcome here. They even rent the latest Snow Moto models with several board options. View my pic to see the pricing. They even had one with the Shark Super carving board!
Only downside is that the Gondala is very small and old. It was a real challenge to get my ride inside and they even stopped the Gondala to allow me enough time to squeeze in. So I only tried this once…there were 2 hi-speed covered quad lifts that were just as fast, so I did not miss out.
This is a Tokyu Resort and the hotel was reasonably priced with a Onsen/spa. Next time I will stay here to enjoy the great snow!

However if you consider yourself a intermediate / beginner skier, I wouldn't really recommend coming here. Ill managed today and in the Aizu region carry on and try somewhere else. If you're a foreigner don't forget you get a discount on lift passes for all resorts in this area. First time ever disappointed with this resort. Sort it out management.

Road Station Urabandai is a toll road rest stop that offers various facilities such as eateries, souvenir shops, and a farmers' market. It is located in an area with beautiful views of mountains and lakes. Visitors can enjoy the snow during winter months or use it as a base to explore nearby ski slopes. The facility also has clean amenities for travelers including an onsen 5 minutes away from the station.

Went out of our way to come to this road station to get back near some snow for the kids. There was plenty of snow and it was a nice quiet place with clean facilities. We came here in early December and the scenery was amazing. Everything was dusted white with snow! A nice Michi no eki. Probs perfect of you were in a camper like us and venturing to a ski slope nearby. There was also an onsen 5 minutes down the road to get cleaned up and warm.

Bentennuma Pond, part of the Goshikinuma Ponds group, is a mesmerizing tourist attraction. Situated in the midst of a trail, this relatively large swamp offers a unique experience. From the observatory, visitors can admire the distant mountain range and take in the breathtaking scenery that unfolds along their journey. Mount Bandai is a well-known volcanic mountain known for its charming beauty. The mountain boasts multiple climbing routes and several ski resorts. Hiking to the top of the mountain takes about 2 hours or less, and it is recommended to start early in the morning. The weather conditions are usually favorable, allowing hikers to witness stunning views from the summit. Hiking Mount Bandai has become a tradition for many people who visit it every year.
I had a chance to hike Bandai san on 20/08/2020. I would like to share my experience here hoping to help those who like to hike. There are a couple of trials. I used the one starts at Happodai 八方台
This is the easiest and shortest trial. I went there by car. I saw a taxi ad posted there. I will you can get there by taxi as well.
There is a free parking area, toilets and a resting area while waiting for a taxi at the trailhead. No drinkable water. I started at 8:15 and got the peak at 10:10
The path is not much challenging. I would say 2 out of 5. There are some rocky areas but not to steep. There are many view points. The weather was clear and I was blessed with spectacular scenery. There us a small restaurant, resting area near to summit. There is delicious natural fresh water here. You can fill out your bottle. After this point it says 500 m left. It is a bit more challenging yet amazing view. There is an entrance just next to the water fountain. Once you reach the peak you will be blessed with 360 degree view. We could see far places and big mountains (Adatara, Issaikyo, iide etc). There are many lakes around and it was looking awesome from the top. We didn’t want to leave. After a long break here we returned back from the same path. There is a flower garden sign on the way. We just went to check. There was not much flower. I believe it would be great in May. We came back to the parking area at 12:10. So about 4 hours hike including resting time. It was a great one and would be happy to challenge myself with the other trials next time. Like this comment if you think it will be helpful for the others.

We began our hike at the Inawashiro trailhead. At least when we went, there were hardly any people! The Inawashiro entrance seems to be really popular in the winter, since it’s where the ski slopes are as well.
If you want, you can hike up the path along the ski slopes to get to the quarter mark, but I recommend taking the ski lift. The cost is ¥1600, but it’s worth it. You don’t want to tire yourself out hiking the steep ski slopes before the hike even begins.
At the end of the second ski lift is when the hike up the mountain really begins. The first part is relatively steep, but the middle of the hike, when you go around the rim of the collapsed volcano, is very enjoyable and easy. However, the last 30 - 45 minutes of the hike are pretty difficult, but not impossible!
The summit is quite large, and there’s room for a lot of people, though when we went, clouds were blocking the view. Oh well! There’s always next time!
Be VERY careful on the way down! At least for the Inawashiro trail, there’s so many loose rocks and slippery boulders that made the hike down pretty challenging, and even dangerous! I fell on my butt several times. But, it was pretty funny. Anyways—be careful!
Overall, it was an enjoyable hike! I’d go again and try the Happodai trail, which is more popular. Maybe it’s easier and a little better maintained. On a scale of a baby (so easy a baby could climb the mountain) to Tom Cruise (only Tom Cruise could climb the mountain) I’d say a well trained high school athlete would need to stop and rest several times throughout the hike.
***Side note—the ski lift closes at 2:10 PM!! Plan your visit carefully if you take the Inawashiro trail. Me and my buddies came down at 4:00 and had to slide down the ski slopes (without snow) and though it was pretty fun, our pants were stained brown by the end of it! It looked like we pooped ourselves.
Good luck, and happy climbing!

Urabandai Lake Resort is an upscale lakeside resort offering relaxed rooms and suites. The resort features hot spring baths with a soft steam sauna, spa facilities, and dining options. The outdoor onsen offers an awesome view of the lake while the brownish water is due to high iron content in it.

This is a hotel that spreads out horizontally. Fortunately, there was a large public bath and a souvenir shop at the front desk in the center of the hotel, so it wasn't too much of a problem.
I made a reservation for dinner at a French restaurant in the villa. Perhaps because of that, I felt like I was on the side of the Imperial Palace, so I didn't have to walk too much, which was great.
The front staff was a young woman, but she was very attentive. She had a wonderful smile and soothed the fatigue of driving at high speeds.
The room was also very spacious and I felt comfortable.
There was a welcome snack in the room, and it was delicious.
There are few washing areas in the public bath compared to the number of guest rooms, and the washing area may be congested when it is crowded. I was glad that I was able to use it without being crowded during my stay. The indoor bath is very large. The smell of chlorine was so strong.
The open-air space had a nice view and was relaxing.
However, the seasoning of the dinner dishes was too strong for us, and we were left with only the soup. It was a premium course, but I was a little disappointed because I thought it was a Tohoku flavor. But it looked good, so my eyes were healed. (lol)
Overall I had a comfortable stay.

We only used the onsen. I don't see all that well without my glasses, and even I could tell that the outdoor onsen (which is somewhat small) had an awesome view (of the lake). There's also a "soft steam" sauna in the indoor onsen. The water is brownish, which according to the website is due to the high iron content in the water. Pretty good facilities for the price, and the view is a whole bunch of cherries on top.

Beware of SPA TAX!
The staff are really polite, respectful and helpful but all speak very little English (they really need to hire at least one fluent English speaking person if they want more westerners to visit here). The food options are plentiful but the food is average and if you’re there for a week or more, you may become tired of eating the same foods everyday. Use the 7/11 as an added option to stock up on alternate foods. The hotel amenities are rather expensive so be sure to look elsewhere before getting sucked into a massage or a night in of pool, darts and golf! My partner got a 1 hour aroma massage (Y11,000) and I opted for a 30 mins relaxation massage (Y6,000) and costing us almost AU$200, it was not that great to be honest. We are in the heart of Tokyo right now and each went for a 1 hour gentle massage earlier today and it was amazing, and cost Y2,400 each (AU$30 each). The rooms are of an older style but do the basics and have good heating. Their pillows however, are super hard, and were pretty uncomfortable to sleep on. We did ask for softer pillows but they had none (or didn’t understand our question). Their onsen is a nice experience but be aware that you will be charged about Y150 per person in your party for each day of their stay here (known as Spa Tax). If you need any snow gear hire, I would suggest renting gear at each mountain that you choose to go to. The quality of the gear is way better than the rental shop at the hotel (don’t waste your time there) and we found most resorts offer cheaper rental than what the hotel can offer. The internet is good in your room and is pretty quick. Bear in mind that you will be in a foreign country, and all the tv channels are in Japanese. The TV’s are not smart TV’s so they have no Netflix options, so be sure to bring your own iPads/iPhones with Netflix already loaded on them. As a first time here, we were expecting a lot more from what they call a 4 star hotel. We have marked this down as ‘an interesting experience’ and will probably look elsewhere the next time we want to visit Japans snowy mountains.

I stayed for one night on 12/10. This was a reasonably priced stay, and the buffet was delicious and mainly consisted of vegetables. The morning ramen wasn't ready-made char siu, but rather had a spicy topping of green onion or something, and on the contrary, it was very delicious! The Chinese food was delicious, and the Sri Lankan pancakes in the morning were rare and good. It didn't seem like there was anything ready-made, so it had a handmade feel to it. What I was interested in is not limited to this hotel, but since it has a live kitchen, the food is freshly baked. I didn't mind waiting, so I wanted it to be grilled after I ordered it. It's a great live kitchen... but it's like that at any hotel. Also, the bath was very nice. With a lake view, it was very quiet and relaxing. The natural hot spring water was nice, but I was disappointed because it seemed to contain chlorine.
I don't know if it's a seasonal thing, but since there weren't many children and I went with two adults, it wasn't too noisy and I had a relaxing time. The building is very luxurious and has a bubble atmosphere. When I entered the entrance, the escalator up to the second floor was right in front of me, but it was currently closed, so it looked a bit lonely.
Also, as mentioned in other reviews, the hallway was very long. But overall it was so good that I wanted to go again in a different season.

It has the best snow quality in Fukushima Prefecture! There aren't many courses, but the slope near the summit is over 30 degrees, and there are both compacted and uncompacted snow runs, making it a powder run and a carving track for experts. The piste is also well finished. Near the center, on the side of the first lift, there is a gentle slope where children and beginners can safely ski. There is also a space where you can go sledding and a swing, so you can have fun♪
Near the third lift, you can carve comfortably on the medium slope, and you can also enjoy playing with the terrain and doing gratori and rantori.
The lodge's dining room is also large enough for families to relax, so grandparents can come and enjoy the famous mountain salt ramen while watching their grandchildren skate.

Lake Onogawa is an ideal destination for those who love outdoor activities like kayaking, angling, hiking and stand up paddle. It is known for its stunning fall foliage which surrounds the lake. The area also boasts family-friendly campgrounds with modern amenities including beautiful toilets that women can use without any concerns. While exploring the lake, it is advisable to wear sturdy outdoor sandals as the soil can be difficult to navigate in flip-flops.

I went to try a canoe experience!
Children also enjoyed the calm lake.
The instructors are very kind
It became a good memory for my family.
When I entered the lake, my feet were buried deep in the soil and it was difficult to get out.
I think B-san will be taken away💦
We recommend sandals for outdoor use that can hold your feet firmly.
Stand up paddle seemed fun too♪

The lake in Urabandai, Fukushima Prefecture is very clear and beautiful. There is a campsite on the lakeside where you can enjoy yourself in the midst of nature. Black bass and smallmouth bass can be caught using lure fishing. There aren't many points to choose from, so a rental boat would be a good idea. As for lures, it is relatively easy to catch small bass using a down shot rig with a small worm. There are convenience stores and restaurants around the lake, so you won't have any trouble finding a meal. From the campsite, you can take a walk around Goshikinuma, Lake Hibara, Lake Akimoto, etc. However, it is difficult to procure ingredients for camping around the lake.

There was a big smelt.
Absolutely beautiful in snow. I visited here also in the summer and autumn. Today December 27. There is enough snow to look really pretty. I walked with winter snow boots. the trail was slightly trampled so I wasn't walking on fresh snow. the drive here the roads are clear of snow. Be careful very early in the morning as maybe icy. the shuttle buses seem to be operating also. I didn't see anyone else while I was walking though. Tour group with snowshoes were entering as I left.
I entered the trail from both sides. I think the one near the lake is the better option as you see more ponds in the beginning, it takes an hour each way to hike the whole thing, so I just hiked a little way in from both sides. Please note that the shops and souvenir shop is not open by the pond entrance.
I then took a warming Onsen at the Hotel just a few minutes from the car park entrance to the pond. Normal cost is ¥1400, but if you have your own towel, it's only ¥800

If you move too far forward, you will be blown away, so please shoot from a safe place. Commentary: It is one of the Goshikinuma lakes in Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture. Although the name is Yanaginuma, the color of the lake surface is emerald green. It is said that the lake got its name because there were willow trees growing along the shore. Yanaginuma is a relatively small pond among the Goshikinuma lakes, but it is a place where you can enjoy the beautiful emerald green surface and tranquil atmosphere. Yanaginuma is located along the Goshikinuma Nature Trail and has a walking path. The total length of the promenade is approximately 20 minutes, and there are wooden paths and stairs.

Although it's November, the colors of the swamp don't stand out that much, so maybe spring or summer would be better.
Since it was the season of autumn leaves, the parking lot was full.

The water surface is like a mirror, and the blue sky is reflected beautifully. Steam mist rose in the backlit area, which was also a fantastic sight.
It took an hour and a half to get here since we started our walk from Bishamon Marsh. We took a relatively leisurely walk, enjoying the scenery and taking photos at each swamp. If you want to enjoy this view, we recommend timing your visit at sunrise.
Please note that the first bus departs around 6:30am and is infrequent, so it is recommended to check in advance. However, the return trip takes less than an hour, and you may be able to see a different view.
