La Cité de la Mer is a popular tourist attraction that features an aquarium, ocean museum, and an interactive Titanic exhibition. It also has an on-site submarine that visitors can explore with the help of audio-guided tours. The main building is quite vast and offers various submarines to observe. The overall experience is impressive and informative, making it well worth a visit if you are in the area. Additionally, it inspires visitors to appreciate and make more efforts towards preserving our oceans' beauty and diversity.
Good day out. Impressive and informative aquarium, fairly interesting Titanic exhibit, and a great audio-guided walk through a nuclear submarine.
The main building is immense, and has a variety of interesting submarines to look at.
We didn't try the restaurant, but the sandwich bar was good.
Well worth a visit if in the area.

Amazing museum, aquarium, titanic and a nuclear submarine. Entry price seemed a little steep and there were no pics to see what you were getting for your money, however we decided to go in and take a look. It was brilliant and worth every penny. Recommended time is 4 hours, we spent around 3 in there because we were on a cruise ship and needed to get back on board.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it, so much better than the somewhat dreary town centre

An amazing experience for the whole family. The submarine visit is spectacular, i knew nothing about submarines until til now.
We visited with a 10 and 5 years old kids and they were both extremely impressed with the museum.
We visited during the week days and it was nice as no crowds. We took our time looking around all the places.
Definitely a place to put on your To Do when in Normandie.
Tickets includes entrance to the Submarine, Titanic exhibition and The ocean of the future.
It was a perfect day for us.

You can easily spend 5 6 hours lost in the wonders of the oceans and submarines.
And the cherry on top was the titanic visit .
Its a must try. I had no interest in the world of submarines or oveans but i enjoyed every moment.
At the end of the tour, ull be fascinated by that world that you really wana do more effort to preserve it...
A must in normandie

Ever wondered what a nuclear submarine looks like? This was a great opportunity to not only see such a magnificent craft but also walk through it. From trying to make sense of how they shower in those tiny cubicles, to seeing how the torpedo bays are loaded.
Or you just want to feel what the passengers of Titanic went through? A nice museum that details that fateful day.
Finally, there's a lovely aquarium here.

Fantastic museum experience!! Visiting the "Redoutable" nuclear submarine is quite an experience! I felt immersed (no bad joke here) in the life of such submarine. You can touch all the panels, valves and all. And the experience is also supplemented by sound throughout the whole submarine that makes it feel real. After exiting the museum, an interactive experience awaits where you can train yourself as "golden ears" to recognize the sounds of the sea and even pilot a submarine in VR!
Next, we went to the Tinanic part of the museum. The Titanic part was beautiful and immersive too. The whole Titanic exhibition, starting with the original embarkment hall, is held in the gorgeous original Art Deco rooms of the museum.
One of my best museum experience by far!

Amazing museum. Well worth the entry fee. Really enjoyed the submarine audio tour. Very informative and immersive
Dale Morgan — Google review
Wonderful museum. It is divided in 3 sections: the submarine, titanic, the ocean.
The submarine is marvelous, there is a free audio guide multilanguage. It is very well done, the best I have heard.
The titanic is a reconstruction of the events and the ambient on the ship.
The ocean section is also very nice and has several good explanations.
All the sections have interactive parts where you can touch with hands every concept.
All the explanations are in French and English.
I strongly recommend a visit of at least 6 hours. Take your time and enjoy!

Best museum in the city.
They have 3 exhibitions, Le Redoutable (nuclear submarine), Ocean world (with aquarium) and Titanic.
Le Redoutable exhibition have good audio guided walk through a nuclear submarine, you can go inside. Nuclear reactor was removed. It is the biggest submarine with public entrance in a world.
The main building is big, and has a variety of interesting submarines to look.
Pavel Beseda — Google review
Possibly one of my all time favorite museums! I didn't even know of its existance until I walked past it and noticed some really cool deep sea exploration gadgets in the foyer. Decided to go in (EUR 17-19 depending on what discount you can get). 3 hours later I came out blown away.
They really managed to get the perfect balance between infotainment and education. A plethora of interactive games and equiment wrapped into a truly inspiring and realistic setting, from deep ocean exploration to understanding ecosystems to walking inside a massive submarine (caution: it is narrow inside so if you are like me - tall - tread carefully). The Titanic exhibition is impressive even if it isn't my cup of tea, giving one a sense of what it was to be on board as it hit the iceberg).
Great collection of deep sea diving vessels incl the Titanic and Avatar director James Cameron's one with which he dived 10km deep.

La Cité de la Mer is an incredible experience, showcasing a fascinating submarine and a snapshot of marine life. The submarine provides an immersive glimpse into underwater exploration, while the diverse collection of fish is both educational and awe-inspiring. We spent a lot of time looking at the fish, this museum have all kinds of fish and they are so beautiful.

This place is amazing. Good place to bring ur kids. They have submarines, you can see Titanic and aquarium. For kids below 5 years old is free. But adult, you pay €19 for entre fee. My daughter likes this place

Second time there, always enjoyable. The submarine was very interesting. Wishing the aquarium had an octopus but the selection is nice. Kids would love the Aquarium.
Celeita Kramer — Google review
I spent almost 5 hours in La Cité de la Mer to avoid the rain while waiting for my ferry.
I could've spent even longer here as there are so many interesting exhibits.
The audio device for the Redoutable submarine tour had very low volume, which made it almost impossible to hear with the simulated live submarine sounds in each different section of the submarine.
The aquarium section in The Ocean of the Future section was really interesting, with some smaller aquariums with specific species.
The Titanic exhibition in the 1933 Art Deco cruise liner terminal is interesting from an architectural aspect as well as Titanic history.
I would enjoy bringing my grandchildren here to view the diverse range of exhibits.
I could've stayed longer, but I needed to leave to check in for my ferry.

This is an amazing place!
We stopped off for an hour or so whilst waiting for our ferry. We could have easily spent most of the day here as we didn't get to see the Titanic section.
The nuclear submarine was absolutely amazing and well worth the visit just to see this.
I thoroughly recommend this attraction.
Rachel Jones — Google review
Fantastic place to visit , €19 entry ,and the visit to the nuclear submarine is worth that alone, add in the Titanic exhibit and the aquarium and its great value for money. There are films on the history of the building, exhibition spaces. All great stuff and we'll worth a visit
Parc Emmanuel Liais is an extraordinary garden located in Cherbourg, France. This stunning park stands out for its unique and diverse collection of plants from around the world, which was established by Emmanuel Liais in the late 1800s. Visitors can explore a variety of exotic species such as Brazilian jubea spectabilis palm trees, ancient Japanese azaleas, Lambert cypresses, and long-living African Encephalartos.
Beautiful little garden in the middle of the city.

I love this park, which is well looked after, but unfortunately, the greenhouse looks very sad these days. I would have thought a committee of volunteers would be very easy to find. And even more sad, is the closure of the museum, which was amazing.

Great trip to Ireland. If you are walking, there is no entrance next to the museum. You can see the ship right there but can't get in. You must enter down where the cars do and walk to a terminal where a bus takes all foot passengers to the ship.
Great crew onboard! Several amenities are not available during the off-season, or during rough seas, but the crew was able to acknowledge that and make the trip still very comfortable and worth it.

Stena Line changed the departure time , but failed to inform us. When we arrived, the service staff started arguing with us, and didn’t want to help. The Liberation Museum is located within a 19th-century fortress and offers free entrance to visitors with backpacks, providing lockers for storage. The exhibition focuses on the events of WWII and D-Day in Cherbourg, with emphasis on living conditions during occupation. Most signs are available in French, English, and German languages; additionally, guides are available in all three languages. Visitors can obtain brochures about local attractions at the office as well.
Great museum, you can tell that there’s been a lot of care put in.
Jory — Google review
Disappointing. Most of the exhibits are in French so unless you speak the language the museum isn’t very interesting. They have obviously made a lot of effort to put together this collection of artefacts in this old historic building but I couldn’t really understand what I was being shown.
You do get an English leaflet but it only has a brief description of the museum.
It’s a bit of walk uphill to get to the museum and there are some nice views of the harbour.

Little or no information about the actual fortress and no access to the cannon batteries below (separate tour). That being said, the museum provides interesting facts about the area during the WW2. Some English information lacking here and there, but all in all good. Nice walk up and a great view of the city. Used around 45 minutes there.

Interesting and complete history of Cherbourg during the Second World war, but could do with more English descriptions of the exhibits for the none French visitors like me.
It is a long walk up hill to the fort, so need to be physically able or get taxi to take you.
Enjoyable visit and the staff were very pleasant and helpful.
The Fort du Roule, a well-preserved military stronghold, offers a breathtaking view that can be accessed by ascending on foot. Unfortunately, young children may become tired during the climb, and the fort closes at 6 p.m. Nonetheless, through the foliage, glimpses of its beauty can still be seen. However, due to it being located in a military area with barriers, not everything within its vicinity is easily visible or accessible.
Really Great place to visit after a strenuous climb to about 180 meters. Lots of carefully done exhibits of ww2 as well as some stunning views.

The Le Parapluie de Cherbourg boutique is a delightful discovery while exploring the streets. It offers a unique and enjoyable experience, showcasing famous umbrellas being meticulously crafted by hand. The museum provides an opportunity to witness the fascinating production process, including the logo machine efficiently creating multiple umbrellas simultaneously. This engaging visit is particularly enlightening for children, as they get to observe the art of traditional craftsmanship.
Great place,worth to visit,see and buy😄

We thought it is a nice shop, where you also are able to see the production.
We also visited the small museum about the history of this brand, it costs 5 euro to visit.
Afterwards both my wife and me bought an umbrella, but it was only me who got 5 euro back from the museum. The lady behind the counter said it was only given once, despite we bought the umbrellas separately. I find this a bit childish, and therefore I will not give a higher rate in stars.

We stumbled across this whilst wandering about the streets. A very fun little find. They are famous umbrellas and you can see them being made and go around the museum.

Haydar Tekir — Google review
A "museum" with identity issues, more like an expensive umbrella shop. Horrible temporary art exhibition is a lot bigger than the museum-part, and the so-called museum is a laughing matter. Very little info about umbrellas in general, just some egocentric nonsense about the family heritage of the umbrella founder - all in French of course. Spent in total 10 minutes of agony at the place. Do NOT visit if you want more than just a shop.

Batterie Du Roule is a historical landmark that features fortifications built into a mountain during World War II. These structures were designed to house gun emplacements, and they played an important role in the conflict. Today, visitors can explore this unique attraction and learn about its significance in wartime history. The site offers a fascinating glimpse into the past, with attention to detail evident throughout the area.
A very interesting and unique experience. We were a small group of English speakers in a larger group and Cyrille ensured that we did not miss a thing. Cyrille's knowledge and attention to detail are second to none - thanks very much.

The Thomas Henry Museum is a collection of artwork from the 15th-19th centuries, featuring works by Jean-François Millet as well as paintings and sculptures. The museum provides a unique insight into French culture during this time period, with religious tablatures showcasing the artist's beliefs. Entrance to the museum is affordable at only $5 per ticket and free for young people. A temporary exhibition is currently on display, providing an enjoyable experience for all visitors.
It was an unparalleled pleasure, the pictures conveyed an overwhelming feeling of what the French environment was like at this time, while the artist's thoughts regarding his faith were clear in the religious tablatures - regardless of whether or not they were true - but they were really artist's feathers. it was huge experince to visit that great musiem. Try it. You won’t regret. Ticket is only 5 €.

The gardens are exceptionally beautiful, with parts of it full of nice plants, a little greenhouse , and parts further away with a playground and forest all around. There are two ponds with swans and ducks. We managed to see a few rooms of the castle because of an exhibit, but we wish this wonderful castle was all open to visitors. Fabulous place to visit, especially if you get there early waiting for the ferry. We spent about two hours exploring the castle and gardens. It is all free. The part of the castle open to the public, which is an empty two storey internal space, apart from the Blue Room, was being used for an artist's exhibition. Cherbourg Public Garden is a charming and well-kept park that boasts shaded pathways, water features, a playground for children and an abundance of plant life. It is a small but refreshing haven that offers visitors the chance to relax and unwind in the midst of natural beauty. The garden is home to numerous flowers, plants and a large fish pond stocked with koi and ghost carp.
Small, but very well maintained garden, lots of benches.

Beautiful layout, wide variety of flowers, and a small aviary with various rarer pigeons and not extremely exotic birds.
The Museum Emmanuel Liais in Cherbourg is a truly remarkable attraction that should not be missed. Although the museum offers guided tours exclusively, it remains a fascinating place reminiscent of old-fashioned museums. It is small and peculiar, but filled with an abundance of interesting exhibits to explore. However, it's important to note that all information within the museum is presented in French only. Nevertheless, if you have even just 10 minutes to spare, it is definitely worth visiting this unique natural history museum.
Truly wonderful part of Cherbourg, if you've even got 10 minutes it's worth exploring! The museum does seem to be tours only which is a shame

We arrived at around 20:30 (we had not had a drop to drink)The security guard went out of his way to make us feel awkward absolutely no people skills same goes for the pit bosses their reaction to us trying to buy a pint initially (security guard was sitting at the bar with his friend blocking access to the bar ordering point and no barman/barmaid at the counter)then was pretty much told that we could not have our beers at the blackjack table as no side stools available to keep your drinks by your side (advised to leave our drinks at the bar quite a distance from the tables) and you absolutely cannot keep your drinks on the tables which is understandable and the general rule in casinos but it was just the way they dealt with it rude, unprofessional and downright obnoxious. The casino itself looks something straight out of the 70's in dire need of refurbishment (you would not think that when seeing the exterior of the building as there is a lovely restaurant attached to the casino) The lady on reception who greeted us was lovely but besides this pretty poor. Blackjack tables dreadful did not play any other game as this was the reason we visited here there is also roulette and a loads of slot machines. Spent two more nights in Cherbourg after this visit but steering well clear of this establishment.

Very strange experience for a casino, partially as it is being refurbished so is only half the size and very snug but also because it only tends to have the regulars in there that all seem to know each other. Friendly staff that seem to have good banta.
The Montebello Botanical Garden in Cherbourg has always been a beloved attraction for locals and visitors alike. Nestled within the charming streets, this hidden gem offers a delightful surprise to those who stumble upon it, just like discovering a geocache. The garden exudes romance with the enchanting sounds of nearby Notre-Dame du Voeu's bells echoing through its grounds. It resembles something straight out of a storybook, with an abundance of adorable corners that transport you into another world.
