The USAT Liberty Shipwreck, located in Tulamben Bali, is a popular dive site known for its vibrant underwater scenery. This American cargo ship was torpedoed during WWII and now serves as a prime diving spot with colorful coral and diverse marine life. Despite the challenging shore entry due to the rocky beach, the opportunity to explore this accessible shipwreck makes it a must-visit destination for outdoor adventure enthusiasts.

I do love this dive site, just my bad luck that, visibility is not so good to enjoy all the wreck. But fishes are really big & colorful, even i can meet the Napoleon, sharks,… here. Do recommend!

Cool dive place and location, maybe the best scuba dive place in Bali that worth visiting. The access is from the shore and its not very easy since there are a lot of stones getting in but the trip worth it. Temperature was around 29 C and with a 3 m wetsuit I did t face any issues. The visibility and clarity is greate and you will have the opportunity to see a lot of marine life like turtles crabs and tropical fishes. Max depth is around 29 meters deep but you don’t need to go all the way down to admire the underwater landscape.

One of the best site to dive undersea and enjoy the sight of active marine life. The dive goes around a Ship Wreck which was then the US Army Cargo shop torpedoed by Japanese Submarine. One of the best place to see corals, colorful fishes and get haunted from the deep blue beneath.

Best dive site I've ever been to (including the great barrier reef!) It is impossible not to enjoy the diving when there is so much to see! We saw 2 octopi, 2 turtles, tons of fish, beautiful coral! The visibility was fantastic, and the wreck is so close to shore so you don't have to waste a bunch of air getting to it! It's absolutely amazing, lots of things to see and some fun swim through opportunities. The wreck is all broken up so there's not really any "inside" to go into, but you can definitely swim through lots of different parts and live your little mermaid dreams! And definitely keep an eye out on the sand on the way out and back for the tiny little finger eels popping out! So much fun! Also huge shout out to the staff carrying the tanks back and forth on their heads! It was seriously impressive!

I heard that some fish are gone. The pandemic destroys many things. There must be a way to call them back and keep them alive peacefully. Coral planting looks seriously managed.

Very nice dive spot. You can do shore and wreck diving here. It was my first experience of shore diving. The coral and under water dive was amazing. You can dive up to 30 meters here. The wreck was amazing.

Nice spot for shipwreck diving 😘😘😘 Shore entry. 20-30 m in depth. Water visibility 10m💕💞 Nice corals & varieties of coral fishes. Can also see Mt Agong, the active volcano from the Shore.

Great shore dive. The wreck is a nice dive with plenty to see. Take a couple of dives to explore it!
The shore entry can be a little tricky if there are waves because it's a boulder shore which is hard on feet and ankles. But, the staff are very helpful at getting people in and out.

Snorkeling at the USAT Liberty was fantastic! Lots of fish and coral growing on the shipwreck. Great place to do an explore dive or just snorkel. Current isn’t too strong and there are plenty of reasonably priced local places to rent equipment or to get a guide.

Very nice dive inside the Reck, unfortunatly you will meet to much snorkler and freediving people who donc care about scubadiver and dont know the rules so i had someone step on me down the water... But the corals on the reck are such amazing to see !

Very easy shore dive. The coral is wicked torn up and there were plastic bags and trash everywhere in the water column in mid March. OTOH, we saw loads of critters; octopus, 3 turtles, a mantis shrimp, loads of garden eels and many fish types. Many pretty corals survive the abuse of the place. Excellent beginner spot bc of easy entry, gentle drop off. Looks like it could be wicked crowded in the busy season.

Incredible shipwreck that you can just swim out to yourself from the beach, if you have your own snorkel then all you need to do is pay 2000 for entrance. Recommend going in the morning as well as would be less busy and the water was unbelievably clear!
Located in Desa Tulamben, Kecamatan Kubu, Kabupaten Karangasem, Tulamben Beach is a great place to see the view of the World War II wreck (USS Liberty) from a few meters depth. The beach has crystal clear waters and is ideal for swimming and diving.
Survival Guide:
PARKING: apparently is 20k, but nobody asked me. So maybe you'll be lucky too. Either way, it's worth it.
SNORKELING GUIDE: you WILL be approached by people who want to be your guide. Tell them "no". It can happen they won't listen. Tell them you have a diving course already.
DIVING GUIDE: You don't have to pre book because you'll find plenty here. But since you're reading this, apparently you're the gal or guy who's into preparing themselves. So, best, get a reputable teacher on google maps.
ENTER THE WATER ON YOUR OWN: there's no need for a guide. Guides will lie to you and say you can't go snorkeling alone. You absolutely can. And if you're a decent swimmer, nothing is stopping you.
LOCATION OF THE SHIP: it's 120 meters long, and it's 25-50 meters outside of the shoreline. It's aligned to the shore line, so you cannot miss it. The pin on google map is accurate. Just go exploring and have fun.
TIDE: it's easier to enter the water at high tide. There are many rocks. But any tide should be fine. I was there at high tide which was good. Download the app nautide, it's free and gives you the information you need.
TIME OF THE DAY: if you want to have the ship for your own, go before 9. Other than that, any time is fine. I liked the other divers and snorklers as orientation.
FINS: Yes, you'll be better off with fins. The current can be strong and the rocks can be annoying. But they are not sharp. Still. Fins are heavily recommend. You should be able to rent them there.
SHOPS: the warung there has increased prices. A coke is 20k. Still affordable, but more expensive then other warungs.
Consider liking this guide for visibility.

Had my introductory diving experience here. It was amazing to see the shipwreck, garden eels, the various, colorful fishes and even one blue spotted ribbontail stingray.

If you are a female SOLO traveller, be careful with this guy. First, he will try to do small talk, then he will offer you free snorkling guide. If you reject, he will follow you… literally anywhere. Trying to go west, east, even in public place, he kept trying to get close.
I was not the only victim. This has been happening many times, to other females. I found another 2 females got same approach by him.
Be very careful, ladies. I suggest not to go there alone…

The beach is rocky, make sure you wear snorkeling shoes to start your water activities. The underwater is ok, coral garden wasn’t much coral, shipwreck is the most visited spot by the divers. Anyway it’s a good place for you to take or upgrade diving license here since they offer the affordable one.

Bali has several diving spots that attract both amateur and professional alike to venture. But the ones that located in bali's most west side of the island, Menjangan Island and the other one that in the east part are most popular and famous.
Luckily both mentined diving spots are far from industrialized areas or any motored fishermen activities so the sea water on both areas are clean and clear allowing the sea lives and corals to grow well naturally without any disturbances, dirts and polution at all.
The one in the east Bali, Tulamben, offers a new beach side, only 25 meters away from the sea sand to dive to sea the US Liberty ship wrecked 7 meters deep allowing you to witness the natural beautiful sea lives and corals on the place.
Apart from taking tourists to dive several diving school are spread all over the island ready for teaching enthusiasts to learn on quick course of diving and graduate new born divers under the sea water. Interested?
So next time you come to Bali do not hasitate to join in the quick course and start becoming a new first time licenced diver.

There's no sand beach in Tulamben. All volcanic rocks. The highlight of Tulamben is scuba diving activities, where you can find the Liberty wreck just a few meets swim away from the beach. The most easiest and relaxing dive with good disability, colorful corals with many tropical fishes.

Best dive spots for wreck dive. I think this is one of the easiest and the best wreck dive in the world. Entrance is very east from the beach or your resort. Food around here is very good. Went here during the practice of polairud polda bali.
