Aoike is a popular and stunning natural pool famous for its crystal-clear waters. The area boasts forest trails that lead to nearby lakes, as well as a camping site for those seeking an outdoor adventure. This destination is amongst the best places to visit, not just because of Aoike's beauty but also due to the hiking opportunities available in exploring the wondrous mountains surrounding it.

Senjojiki Coast is a picturesque stretch of shore with a large beach and uniquely shaped rocks. It's easily accessible by train and definitely worth stopping to explore. The green rocks are particularly fascinating, and the rock pools are teeming with sea creatures like crabs, sea slugs, hermit crabs, and small fish. Climbing around the area can be quite fun! There's also a small restaurant that serves ramen and ice cream.
While taking the Gono line on the Resort Shirakami Train, we stopped at this spot for about 15-20 minutes as part of the trip. Gorgeous views and great spots for some quick photos.

Worth stopping to take a look if you are passing by. Very interesting/unusual green rocks, and rock pools full of sea creatures. We saw crabs, sea slugs, hermit crabs, little fish etc. Quite fun jumping and climbing around. You can also get ramen, ice cream etc at the small restaurant inside the shop.

Awone Shirakami Juniko is a resort that offers cozy rooms and log cottages surrounded by lovely ambience. The spacious resort provides privacy to its guests as each cottage is far enough away from the other. The herb restaurant, dining hall, and onsen are located in separate buildings along with a huge playground, nature watching tower, event tent, morning yoga, and star gazing events. Additionally, there is wifi available only at the reception which has full strength 4 bars.
This place is an absolute gem! The rooms are small cottages close to a dining hall, gift shop, onsen, and a field where children can play. The staff was nice and the food was fantastic.
Couple things I would recommend while here:
1. See the night sky if you can! This is one of the best places to view the starry night sky in Japan.
2. They have a shuttle that takes you to the twelve lakes but the staff also offered to take us to see the sunset by the ocean which was magnificent as well.
All in all a great stay and would love to come back again.

Great location, easy access to amazing trails through the beech forests around the lakes. Log cabins were spacious and comfortable. We had breakfast and dinner included- dinners were specially good! We were there in the shoulder season and midweek it was very quiet but got more lively on Friday and Saturday. Is looking a bit tired in places, particularly the playground. But we really enjoyed our stay.
Phil Brown — Google review
Very nice hotel. We stayed in an European style cabin which was clean and self-contained (except without kitchen). The dinner was delicious and the staff was informative and helpful. They paid attention to every detail, like placing a printout of two days weather forecast inside the cabin. Will definitely come back and recommend it to those will visit Mt. Shirakami.
Janet Lee — Google review
TL;DR: Lovely ambience. Went in late May- spring. Weather was good, so we could ramble about the place. Walked to the 12 lakes area. Highly recommended.
-Resort: the resort is spacious, with each cottage far enough away for privacy. The herb restaurant, dining hall and onsen are in separate buildings. there is also a event "tent" (more like a pyramid), huge playground, and a nature watching tower. Oh, there is also morning yoga and some star gazing events.
-connectivity: there is wifi, but only at the reception. No biggie, as there's lots to do around the resort and around the area. And the wifi that IS there is full strength 4 bars. 👍😂

The toll road rest stop, Roadside Station Fukaura Kasose Ikayakimura, boasts a spacious parking area and is ideal for a quick pit stop during your drive. Although the shop may be on the smaller side, it offers an array of local seafood and farmers market products. Additionally, there is a limited-hours restaurant that serves delicious dishes like Yaki Soba and Yaki-Ika.
Yaki Soba was nice & the Yaki-Ika as well.

Large parking lot and great for a quick stop while driving. The shop is a bit small, but there are local seafood and farmers’ market goods. There is also a small restaurant, but the hours are limited (closed at 3PM when I went, and I was there at 3:30). I was a bit disappointed in the coastline by the area. There was a lot of trashed washed up on shore at this spot.

Koganezaki Furofushi Onsen is a modest hotel that includes a restaurant, bar, karaoke facilities, souvenir shop and communal bathhouses. The location of the hotel is serene and peaceful with only a few houses around. The highlight of this place is its hot spring which offers an open-air bath very close to the sea. the seafood tobanyaki was really delicious- the salmon, cuttlefish, prawns, scallops were all excellent!
the 3 side dishes & the ikuradon all excellent
the zensai 前菜scallops & fish ok
the miso matodai (john dory) as good as miso cod but firmer like halibut
chawanmushi here all to sweet not our palette
the grilled wagyu was good of course
the sherbet apple ice cream was good too though kind of miserable relative to the lavish dinner 🤣

This is Paradise. I've been to many onsens in Japan and hot springs in Canada. Watching the sunset into the Sea of Japan from the Furofushi Onsen might be the most spectacular of them all. The staff were incredibly friendly and the food was delicious.
Years ago I was scrolling around Northern Honshu on Google Earth, looking at satellite images, looking for places where I might like to go snowboarding. I happened to notice these onsens right on the ocean and decided one day I would like to go.
Trying to book a room when I only speak English was not possible online. Websites either said the accommodation was full or charged outlandish prices. I decided to take a risk and show up without a reservation, fortunately this was midweek. They had a room available. The price for a traditional Japanese style room that included use of the onsens, breakfast and dinner was very reasonable. There are three onsens. One is outdoor right on the ocean, it has a women's tub and mixed tub. The second is just inside from the oceanside pools, this is where you bathe before going to the outdoor pool. Finally, the Furofushi Onsen is indoor/outdoor high on the hillside, giving an excellent view of the sea. It has indoor hot pools, one indoor cold pool, and one outdoor hot pool.
I don't think they get many English-speaking foreign guests, but they were able to answer my questions nonetheless.
Lionel J — Google review
Nice Onsen on the sea front. Wonderful experience, but poor practicality as the shower and bathing area is a five minute walk from the outdoor bath. Mixed bathing area is great as my wife could enjoy the experience with us. Maybe better is three baths - male, female and mixed so women wouldn’t be as self-conscious? A lovely experience and one which didn’t disappoint
Matt Pointon — Google review
The outdoor seaside bath was closed when I went here due to the weather conditions, so it’s a good idea to call and confirm before you head here. However, the indoor baths have an extension which overlooks the sea (see the photos below) and that was nice too. The food is good too. Free pick up and drop to the WeSpa Tsubakiyama station (Resort Shirakami Express timetable followed).

I went in to use the onsen only, and the staff could see my small tattoos on my arms as I walked in. There was no problem with my small tattoos which I really appreciated. Friendly to foreigners which makes this place so special. The outside bath is beautiful and included in the price, and it's also relaxed. It's not too fancy which I really liked. You can hire a towel set and yukata which was very convenient.

I went to Furoufushi-Onsen hotspring by train with my workplace colleagues.
The weather was not so good, but we enjoyed the ocean view of Gono line from the train and delicious seafoods.
It took 7 hours from Tokyo Station to Furoufushi-Onsen.
There is no stores, but a few houses.
It was very calm around the inn, the only sound heard was that of waves.
Especially, the hot spring was really great. The Open-air bath is very close to the sea. Sprash of waves was powerful. The sky and seagulls were beatiful.
Live abalone BBQ was awesome.
I took the photo of the sea at Senjojiki Station.

Yukiaizaki Camping Ground is a remarkable coastal campsite with an advantageous location near the sea. It features a 24-hour washroom situated above, while below the cliffs, there are showers available all day long. Despite some confusion regarding its Google Maps location, this campsite is highly visible and easily accessible. The showers may cost 100 but offer refreshing cold water that proves invaluable for hikers and bikers.

(Translated by Google) Perfect for a walk from Fukaura Hotel. The view of the ocean from the observation deck at Yuhigaoka Park and the dancing eagles from Bentendo Hall at the top of Bentenjima are especially spectacular. The Bentendo can be opened and worshiped inside.
It has been selected as one of Japan's top 100 sunsets, but in winter the sun sets behind the mountain, so you won't be able to see the phantom sun, but the sunset in Akane is spectacular. In the off-season, the area around the seawater pool is like a paradise for sea creatures, and even if you just look around, you'll spot crabs, hermit crabs, starfish, and more.
Unfortunately, there is quite a lot of illegally dumped trash from the national highway, and the dumper, Jigosata, wishes Enma-sama to let him pick up trash forever in purgatory!

After eating at the nearby fish scale, I'm taking a walk ..., if the season is over and I think there are no more creatures ..., if I think it's garbage, it's a baby shrimp! 😃. And the small 🦀 crab was about the size of a thumb nail 😄.
I wanted to see the spectacular sunset, but the time is still early and I will leave it to the next time ...
It was quiet after the season, but you can still enjoy this time 🎵

(Translated by Google) A beach that can be enjoyed by both adults and children in Fukaura Town, Aomori Prefecture
If you go through the pedestrian tunnel from the Yamate parking lot, you will reach the beach.
The seawater pool, which is separated by 100 x 200 meters and has a depth around an adult's waist, is safe and has no waves.
Be careful as the outside of the pool suddenly gets deep.
The sea is clean and you can often see small fish such as pufferfish, octopuses, and shellfish in the pool.
Petit snorkeling is recommended.
The bottom of the pool is sand, but the surrounding area is rocky, so we strongly recommend wearing marine shoes to prevent injury.
The facility is fairly old but generally clean. There are flush toilets, water for washing your feet, and paid showers.
There are lifeguards on duty during the day in the summer, but I feel that they are more concerned with monitoring poaching than with the safety of swimmers.

Oiwa is a fascinating destination, featuring a well-maintained pathway that leads to a rugged cliff. Although the final section requires some effort to ascend, stairs within a small tunnel make it feasible. Once at the top, visitors are rewarded with breathtaking vistas. Numerous picturesque spots offer ample opportunities for capturing beautiful photographs. This remarkable attraction also allows for climbing among the rocks while appreciating the splendid views.

Nice view. I climb to the top to admire the sunset there. Not recommend it on a stormy day but worth to stop by on a sunny day.

I visited by car on an overcast Thursday afternoon in early April. It was recommended by the manager at Furoufushi Onsen. It was about a 7 km drive and I didn’t see many cars on the way. I had to park in the convenient store parking lot because I didn’t know where else to stop. It was a really once in a lifetime experience walking out on a big rock like that. I see them off the coast in my native California or here in Japan and I always want to perch on top of one like the birds do but in this case I could because many people took the time and effort and expense to make Oiwa accessible.
Thankfully, it seems that the bird habitats were not disrupted much. I was joined by 10 or more seagulls at the top of the rock. The coast line was gorgeous. The churning sea was mesmerizing. I don’t think I would want to be out here on a stormy snowy February day but I imagine it’s quite nice in the summer. There is a video of it on YouTube which I think must have been filmed in August or some thing. Even in early April there was a bit of a chill in the air but I didn’t mind.
Thank you 🙏🎉😄

Cool place. Well paved walk to rocky outcrop. (But a bit of climb up the last part). Stairs up a lttle tunnel and good views from ontop the rock. Many spots for nice photos.

A small shrine at the entrance to Oiwa ⛩️
Once you reach the large rock through a narrow path, you will immediately climb the stairs of the rock cave, and there will be narrow and steep stairs and a path to the top of the rock. It's quite scary😱There are no solid fences or handrails, so be careful.
The view from the top is scary after all 😨
But it's worth going and worth the experience.
It's hard to tell from the photo, but it was a really scary and fun experience.

Recently, a Family Mart has opened nearby, making it easier to park your car (it's better to shop and talk to people there).
I won't go into details as other people have written about it, but seeing it from the road is completely different from seeing it from up on foot.
Please try climbing it.
