The Undavalli Caves is a well-known ancient temple that features intricate sculptures and relief art of various deities. It is believed to have been originally carved out by Buddhist monks in the 2nd century AD, then later converted to Hindu use in the 7th century. The four-storey cave temple boasts stunning shrines, including one that houses a massive reclining statue of Vishnu.
Awesome experience. Not as big as other caves but great nonetheless. Beautiful carvings and great views of the nearby areas. Rate of entry is 25 rupees for Indians. A must go experience

These caves have a lot of history. Great to know how in olden times that have made such caves which are well designed. Small caves but can be visited anytime. There are no proper safety measures for tourists. More refreshments and facilities for the tourists will help a lot.

Ancient cultural historic place.
It takes about one hour to cover everything leisurely.
Well maintained, but more could be done to promote it.
This place reminds of Ellora and Ajantha caves, though its much smaller in area compared to them.
Overall a good visit.

Historical site. Well maintained. 4 tiered, carve out of single rock. Ground and top are unfinished. First floor, there is hardly anything. Second floor has large sized Lord Vishnu sculpture in Anant-shayana posture. No tour guide, security guard gives little bit of overview.
Tickets needs to be purchased at the entrance by cash. No credit card machine or UPI codes were displayed.
Parking is on road side. Single toilets are there, separate for men and women. Plastic free zone. Avoid visiting during hot weather.

A must go place. Will need about 45 minutes to be spent there. Has a lot of steps to be climbed. Just one shop outside. Best time to go there is 9 am when it is not too hot and just opens. Parking will be on the road. So not sure about how it would be during peak time.

I had visited this place on a public holiday + weekend, so you can imagine the crowd there! Couldn't appreciate it much since there was huge family crowd, however I found the view from the Undavalli Caves to be more scenic. It also has a sleeping posture statue of Lord Vishnu on second floor of the cave. Will advise others to visit the place on a normal weekday where one can spend time in peace with nature here. The cave is open till 6pm in the evening and the entry ticket counter closes by 5-5.15pm. There are a lot of smart monkeys, don't try to mock/play with them, they might outsmart you :p
I liked that they're promoting cashless payments. The entry ticket is ₹25 if you're paying by cash and ₹20 if you're making cashless payment.

Undavalli Caves in Vijayawada are an architectural wonder that offers a glimpse into India's rich cultural heritage. These rock-cut caves are believed to date back to the 7th century and are a testimony to the craftsmanship of the ancient Indian architects.
These caves, located on a hill, offer breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The intricate carvings and sculptures on the walls and ceilings are a treat to the eyes and offer insights into the life and times of the people who lived in the region.
The caves are divided into four levels, with the first level housing a beautiful statue of Lord Vishnu in a reclining pose. The second level has a beautiful statue of Lord Brahma in a sitting pose, while the third level houses a beautiful statue of Lord Shiva in a dancing pose. The fourth level has a beautiful statue of Buddha in a meditative pose.
The Undavalli Caves are a must-visit place for history buffs, architecture enthusiasts, and people looking for a unique cultural experience. The caves are well-maintained, and the staff is friendly, making it an ideal destination for a family outing or a picnic with friends.
Overall, I highly recommend the Undavalli

Oldest and Beautiful caves at village undavalli near vijayawada . neatly maintained place no separate car park we have to park on roadside. At one side of the hill they carved caves ,one big four storey cave and others small caves. Different religious figures were there at different floors. Among All of them lying Vishnu Murty carving is fantastic and superb .fourth floor no entry it is closed for maintenance.all the surrounding views are so beautiful and we feel like sitting there for some time in green lawns. New bathrooms are constructed but not opened.we will get ice creams and tea coffee outside the gate

Good for a short visit, especially if the weather is pleasant. I would not classify it as must see for tourists. I have been to Ajanta, Ellora, so comparatively Undavalli caves are quite small. The Vishnu statue in sleeping posture inside the cave(watch out for the bats) is impressive. I really the like the view from the top though, open space and lot of greenery around.

Ancient Caves Full of Surprises!
Review:
Undavalli Caves near Prakasam Barrage are really amazing! These caves were made a long, long time ago, and they're like a special window into the past.
When you explore inside, you'll see lots of carvings and pictures on the walls. It's like a big, rocky museum! There's even a huge statue of a resting Lord Vishnu that looks so peaceful.
The best part is the view outside the caves. You can see a big, calm water area called Prakasam Barrage. It's like a painting come to life!
These caves are a mix of old stories, clever art, and pretty nature. No matter if you like old things, stories, or just pretty places, these caves are a must-see.
I really think you should visit the Undavalli Caves near Prakasam Barrage. It's like taking a fun trip back in time and you'll be amazed at how smart and creative people were long ago!

A great place to visit. Only cash accepted even though its under ASI. Not much information provided about these caves. Its a temple of Vishnu and depicts the avatars. The top portion is not allowed to climb. The resting vishnu carving is amazing and puja is still done . Rest of it is not much taken care of. Worth visiting once. 25 INR per person. Parking available beside the road. Many people use this spot for photoshoot.

Place used to be really scenic and beautiful back in 2008 when i visited for first time.
Now its like caves on the road. No much scenic beauty is existing, also top floor of the caves are closed for public visit. It has become like just small park . I personally felt very disappointed visiting the place in completely opposite scenario to my previous experience.
But the best part of the caves is the Anantha padmanabha statue which is lord vishnu in sleeping position is really huge and visual treat for tourists who visit this place. I shall post the detailed hostoric information later in my next visit.

Well maintained temple. Situated above a small ghat called Durga Ghatt, it is a very divine and beautiful place in Vijayawada. You can see the whole city from the cliff top. The temple is good. I went on a non festival day so that it took around only 1 hr to get the darshan via the free dharsan way. Other than free dharshan they have 100, 300 and 500 rs dharshan tickets. They have places to safely store your luggage phones, and Slippers for a small amount. Yeah phones inside the temple are not allowed.

Very nice and powerful temple which is located on Indrakeeladri hill top.
There is free chappal stand and we can also keep luggage in counter for Rs. 5 and go for darshan. They are allowing cell phones and hand bags.

There was a 7 floor building where lift is available to go to hill top. We can climb steps of building or climb steps of hill or can go by lift to reach temple. Lift is free for everyone, but some staff are rude and asking to buy 100 or 300 ticket to use lift, but we asked in counter, they said we can go by lift without ticket also.
After going up by lift, there were seperate queue lines for free, Rs. 100 and Rs. 300. People who buyed Rs. 500 ticket are allowed to go inside the raja gopura. They are selling saree worn by durga maa and the starting cost is Rs. 3000/- for saree, and there were upto Rs. 10,000/- sarees.

Vijayawada is known in mythology as Vijayavata, and is mentioned in some inscriptions as Rajendracholapura also. it is a famous place of pilgrimage on the river Krishna, and ‘has a temple dedicated to Lord Siva in his aspect of Malleswara or Jayasena. Sage Agasthya is said to have been the greatest devotee of this deity and admirer of the deity’s several leelas. The origin or installation of Kanaka – durga Devi at Vijayawada is unknown. She is said to be Swayambu or selfmanifest. She also takes the aspect of Chandi or destroyer of the demon Durgama who was causing havoc among the peace – loving inhabitants of Dakshinapatha.
One of these hills is called Indrakila, which is a famous hill mentioned in the Mahabharata as the place where the Pandava hero Arjuna obtained from Lord Siva an important weapon called Pasupatastra. The aspect of Lord Siva who appeared before Arjuna for granting him the boon is Kirata or the hunter. Bharavi in his celebrated Kavya “The Kirtarjuneeya” has immortalized this. The temple of Vijayeswara is attributed to Arjuna to commemorate the event of obtaining Pasupatha. The shrine has the representation of this and many other events of the Mahabharata depicated in sculpture form.

The existing Prakasam Barrage across River Krishna was constructed during 1954 to 1957 in place of old Anicut just 104Ft upstream side near Vijayawada City in Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh, below the confluence of the Musi, it passes through a narrow gorge and enters the plains of Coromandal coast, till at Vijayawada. The earlier anicut with its canals for irrigation and flood banks for the protection of the delta from the floods was constructed during 1852 with a coast of Rs. 2.00 crores which was designed by Sir Artur Cotton and built by Captain Charies Orr to serve an ayacut of 5.80 Lakh acres in four districts of Krishna, West Godavari, Guntur and Prakasam. The old anicut was breached during 1952 during inspection the eminent Superintending Engineer, Sri. Vepa Krishna Murthy and other staff have demised their lives. After examining all aspects in detail the present barrage was constructed during 1954-1957 with a cost of Rs. 2.278 Crores and named as Prakasam Barrage after the Great Leader and former Chief Minister Sri. Prakasm Panthulu. The Geographical Location of the Barrage Latitude is 16°-30'N and Longitude is 80°-37'E

It's the island situated in the river Krisha which s nearer to Prakasam barrage. I'm very much satisfied with its greens all over. Just a 5 minute travel through a boat from AP tourism's Haritha resorts which is hardly akilometre away from Kanankadurga temple downside on Hyderabad highway. Visited with my family along with my close friend's family. Its really a wow place, even I got the feeling how I missed it so far. Nice site seeing pave in AP but very much saddened to see its maintenance at some of the places. Lot more work is to be done to develop this place as a turist destination . Gone for a speed boat ride and I can happily say that I've enjoyed it a lot. Had a very good non-veg lunch in one the restaurant available there. Lots of chidren playing areas are there but rather difficult for them to travel from one end to another in barefoot. I'm giving top rating for this place as I really enjoyed along with my family. A simple canopy type shelter would have have been provided at the parking area. Resorts can also be booked online if you want privacy and comfort.

Probably the best place in Vijayawada to bring your kids for a pleasant evening considering the other options in vja. Evening time around 5-7 would be best. Narrow gauge train ride will entertain kids and the charge is nominal. Play area for kids is maintained decently compared to Rajiv park. Parking might be an issue but manageable if you get a car on Sunday evening but rest of days yours might be the only car over there.

Maa Durga mandir at Vijaywada, Andhra Pradesh. Such a divine mandir and eternal energy you will feel in front of Mataji Vigrah. There are 3 ways of darshan. 1.- Free darshan 2.- Rs. 100 darshan queue 3.- Rs.300 darshan queue and Rs. 500 darshan queue which ever you prefer. Mandir is on the hill and the facilities of the elevator are available to reach up to the mandir. Friday and Sunday are the rush days in Mandir so choose that accordingly. Just in front of the mandir you can see the river Krishna and a Dam too.

Akkanna Madanna caves are a group of rock cut Hindu cave temples near Durga temple Vijaywada. Dated to mid 7th-century and dedicated to Shiva, they were excavated by the Eastern Chalukya dynasty. They consist of the upper (larger) and lower caves. The upper cave is better preserved, and has an important 7th-century inscription.
To the immediate north of the lower caves is a small park with inscribed pillars and recovered ruins of lost Hindu temples.
It's a small spot and known for the hanging pillar. It comes under ASI and nice tourist destinations. People usually come here for temples nearby and public and private transport services are available.

You could be forgiven for missing this place since its gates are kept closed. It lies on the path to the holy Sri Ameya Durga Malleswari Kanaka Durga temple, and almost everybody just misses it. The caves have been run down due to vandalism and acute weathering yet one can still figure out the carvings of Hindu deities like Lord Ganesha on the cave's outer walls. The caves are *infested* with squirrels, so be prepared for them jumping out of the dark caves, only to scamper away! Do pay heed to the pillars of the portico at the end of the cave complex with inscriptions in Brahmi script. It's heart rending to see the dilapidated condition of the caves but imagining the effort invested in building them and carving them out of the hills is just mind boggling!

Good spot for a refreshment! First things first the entry ticket for adults costs around 20 and it is separate for the parking, parking for both two wheeler and four wheeler is spacious. The staff here helps very effectively, they guide you about the area and parking. There's an inbuilt RO plant in the park. Botanically good place for an enthusiast. Various amusements are available for the kids. This is mainly a concentrated area for kids playing both outdoor and indoor games. This place has a different kinda vibe in the evening with the lights and fountains. Huge greenery is a bliss for the eyes and is suitable for photoshoots. The scary house and 9D theatre are a special attraction. There are 4 to 5 rides which are available for adults. The amount for the rides ranges around 50-100. There's a toy train around the park which is good to cover the whole park to give a glance. There's a canteen and restrooms are available. Finally this is a good place to visit when one visits Vijayawada. Worth giving a try!
