Sandown Beach is a long, sandy beach located on the Isle of Wights. It is popular for water sports, including windsurfing and kayaking, as well as ice cream or refreshments at one of the island's licensed beach cafes.
Picked this beach as we had 3 dogs within our party.the section right near the cafe doesn't allow dogs during the peak of the summer (may-september),it is the bits further out that do.well worth a visit, sand is beautiful, low tide allowed for so much fun building mucky sand castles.dogs had an absolute ball too. The car park is very convenient and near the steps down to the back and (surprisingly) it was reasonably priced.
Would come back in a heart beat!

A lovely peaceful beach at the top end of Sandown.
Enclosed by small cliffs with dog friendly area all year round, this is a great place to come with your four-legged friend and take in the stunning views.
This is one of my favourite places on the island

Absolutely loved walking to the beach and admire the beautiful view. It’s a nice place to have a walk or to sit when it’s not too cold. Definitely recommend you to walk towards the cliff. The landscape is beautiful!

Walk to the far end and often you will be the only person in an oasis of calm.
Favourite with dog walkers and those who want toget away from the bustle of Sandown beaches.

I have 3 favourite beaches on the Isle of Wight for 3 different reasons. Yaverland is in the top 3, it’s a very peaceful beach, enclosed by a cliff rising up to Culver Down, there’s a decent cafe, toilets, good parking. My dog lives his best life here, there’s nowhere he’s happier than on this beach. There’s beautiful views in every direction, so much open space, especially when the tide is out. If you walk right to the end when the tide is out there’s rock pools you can find all sorts of sea creatures in.

Wow what a place for a morning walk. So pretty. Loads of dog walkers there when the tide is out.

I went to Yaverland Beach early morning just to take some sun rise photos. The beach was quiet and very clean, perfect for what I wanted.

Cracking place for an evening swim and BBQ. Not a fan of the day time as its way too busy for my liking. After 6pm you can park up your van, whip out a BBQ, grab your swimmers and live the dream.

What a beautiful beach. Steps at the base of the sea wall makes wonderful seating for us elderly lol. Not to crowded, safe sea, w/c block small friendly shop/cafe. Highly recommend

Beautiful beach we had some amazing walk for few hours and dip. Worth multiple visits.
Excellent walk from start to the end to the white cliffs.

Beautiful beach! Amazing views and it's dog friendly. Loved walking along the beach and seeing Culver down. Amazing for photo opps.
There's a car park near by, However it does cost.
There's a little shop/cafe near by two!

Amazing beach at the far end of Sandown beach. A little quieter than the main beach with ample parking (fee), nice cafe and miles of great sand, hardly any stones and rocks and almost no seawead.
One of the best beaches on the island for sure.
Rob Quickenden — Google review
Nice quiet stretch of beach off the beaten path, perfect for covid distancing. Tides vary enormously, so make sure you check the times, as at high tide the beach almost completely vanishes under the waves. There is a decent car park with outdoor washing facilities, public toilets and a friendly little cafe that does ice creams and hot and cold snacks. All you need for a day at the beach...

Yaverland Beach in Sandown is a coastal gem. The expansive golden sands and crystal-clear waters offer a serene escape. The breathtaking views of the cliffs and the Isle of Wight's coastline add to the charm. It's a family-friendly haven with safe swimming and ample space for beach activities. The beachside cafes provide delicious refreshments, enhancing the overall experience. Yaverland Beach is a tranquil paradise, inviting relaxation and enjoyment amidst nature's beauty. Whether you're a beach enthusiast or seeking a peaceful retreat, this shoreline offers a perfect blend of beauty and tranquility.
The Amazon World Zoo in Sandown is home to a wide range of rare and exotic animals. Among the mammals you'll find ocelots, meerkats, tapirs and sloths. Turtles, crocodiles, tarantulas and chameleons are also housed here. The zoo is open from 10am to 5pm from Monday to Friday, with additional hours on weekends.
Such a lovely little zoo.
The children loved it and the soft play area is also included.
We also got a free pass to use as many times as you want over the following 7 days.
Our favourites were the red pandas, wallabies, sloths and lemurs.
They were all lovely though, especially the baby monkeys.
The children enjoyed the racing carts too. £1 per cart and you ho round quite a few times, we were very impressed.
Nice family day out.
The staff were warm and friendly.
We visited on the second day of our holiday and went back the morning before we left for the ferry.

Nice little zoo animals seemed well cared for and staff were nice, lovely to be able to c loris being fed and the gorgeous sloth in nocturnal area. We enjoyed feeding wallabies and the lemur walkway but felt bit overpriced as really only couple hrs unless got young kids to enjoy play areas only 1 pay kiosk so waited bout 20 mins 2 get in! No big animals apart from tapirs

Lovely place to go, if you have kids there is a play area for them.
Loved the Wallaby walkthrough, not many places I’ve been to do something like this and it was lovely to have them eat out of your hand.
A full range of animals from monkeys to snakes to red pandas - it’s a nice family day out.

Had a 10% off offer through train tickets which they didn't know about, we paid full and went on to enjoy our visit when the manager came and found us to refund what we could've got off with the offer as they hadn't known the offer had already started. 10/10 for customer service and a lovely time had seeing all the cute animals and had a nice meal in the cafe which was very quick and polite service ❤️ will be back again next summer.

Omg I loved this place so much!!!!!!! So many unique and cute animals to see... you can get so close to them all, you can almost touch the meerkats, and the big tropical walk-through area I was walking beside so many exotic birds, walking and flying around you. I loved that so much. If you buy a ticket, it's valid for revisits for the next 7 days which I think is great!!! I highly recommend going here... adults, kids, families, couples...!!! They take care of all of the animals so well.

Decided to come here as it was 4 years since the last visit. Sad to see that there were no longer any penguins as previous. Still lots to see and do- the indoor soft play area was a massive hit. Coffees were decent too from the cafe. Clean and tidy. The only thing I would say, is that none of the hand driers in either men or womens washrooms worked. Other than that wonderful. - could be a tad cheaper…

If you love animals and you're interested
In exotic creatures and conservation this is a really interesting place.
It's bigger than you think with lots of indoor areas to explore too.
All the animals have lots of space and seem very happy.
Fascinating and you can get a ticket that lets you go back again within a week if you wish. They're doing some great work to help preserve wild places.

Pleasantly surprised by this zoo! So many chances to get really close to the animals, often no cage or barrier between us and them. The site looks small, but it's laid out really cleverly so there's loads to see. Apart from one sad parrot that was (I think) a recent rescue arrival, the animals all seemed happy, healthy and well looked after with plenty of enrichment items. The staff were all really enthusiastic and friendly, and there were great play areas for the kids as well. Well worth a visit.
Dave Stockdale — Google review
Small zoo but has a wide variety of rare creatures, critters, and animals! As we do not have children I think we were let down a bit as the zoo is very focused on children and less on adults. That being said the range of animals and how fascinating they are made it really. Only spent roughly 45 minutes to an hour max so worked out pretty costly.
There are activities that are interactive with the animals but on the day we went there was none on, so it wasn't the best in that aspect.
Overall if you're looking for a place to spend the afternoon with kids I'd say so for it, of you don't have kids there's others zoos that are slightly better but don't let that deter you from going here it's worth going at least once to see the animals!
Luke Beale — Google review
Absolute value for money would recommend this zoo to anyone. Went expecting it to be small and not many animals but it was the complete opposite there is a big inside bit that doesn't seem to end and there is loads of animals from reptiles to sloths and birds and fish.
You can get fish food snd other food to feed the animals close up for only £1 so take some spare coins definitely worth the experience.
The gift shop isn't overpriced and has lots of merchandise and memorabilia to take home.

Great time going here. The Animals are all looking happy and healthy. We were lucky and saw some of them getting fed which was a great experience. Lots of different Animals to see and learn about. We had a great time.

Parking feelings about Zoo's aside this is a medium sized Zoo with decent variety of animals / birds / reptiles... don't expect any big game animals but more of the friendly cuddly ones! They all seemed well cared for and happy enough with areas thoughtfully arranged for the animals wellness. A couple of hours is plenty to see everything and enjoy what is on offer.

Really quite an enjoyable visit.
Got to the park early, had the opportunity of booking a meerkat experience!
Lots of animals to look at and learn about.
Lady at the kiosk by the wallaby enclosure was super lovely and very insightful.
Food was actually pretty decent too... The fridge cakes are very good.
Oren Hall — Google review
For the price, you do not really get your money's worth as the enclosures are created as natural habitats where possible, so it is very likely you will not be able to see the animals as they are hiding - which is great for the animals who are not treated as exhibits, but pricing should reflect this, as you end up paying a large sum of money to view trees a lot of the time.
While most of the park is wheelchair accessible, carers are not provided with a complimentary ticket.
The soft play area is an excellent inclusion, as is the dino fossil dig area and the outside play equipment.
Emilie Stroud — Google review
It’s a pretty small zoo but they have quite a few monkeys and they have an indoor section which is full of other animals. The cafe is alright for a quick snack or lunch but definitely not for bigger meals like a dinner. The one good thing I noticed about this place is the fact that the animals in enclosures are actually friendly and let you pet and touch them (unlike other zoos I’ve been too). The wallabies are especially friendly and cute too! The price is fair for how much this zoo offers. The gift shop has quite a large amount of merchandise available. It’s a nice little zoo worth visiting.

What an amazing little zoo! With built in kids playshack.
Being a fan of all things animal as well as entomology I found this zoo to be the best on the island! With an extra large "rain forest" style indoor section as well as great places for the kids to play!
Note: I did go in the off season with a 7 day free return ticket (I went twice) and found it to be worth a lot more then I paid!
##reccomend for smaller ones and asd children##

Look out for Thompsons Garden Centre if you have driven to the the Zoo and go along the road along the side of the Centre until you see the signs for Amazon World Zoo, The bus stop is right outside the Garden Centre as well.
A great place to see all kinds of animals, Reptiles and learn about different species.
At different times you can see them being fed and as I did go into the bird sanctuary and get up close and see some birds flying around the enclosed building, I liked the Reptiles especially the Caymen Crocodile and the big Boa constrictor. You can even feed the wallabies in their enclosure, There's plenty for kids to do, There's a cafe and the parking is free. And the staff were lovely.

Wow! Such a cute little place. Nice open plan car park and great welcoming staff on arrival.
The place was quite small but the enclosures are a great size for the animals. They all look well looked after and happy!
A great indoor walk through the Amazon ‘rainforest’
We visited twice because it was so good! Plus an extremely clean indoor play area that my children loved!
Highly recommended :)

A lovely small Zoo with a good variety of animals. There is a large cafe and plenty of toilets available.
The highlight is the tropical area where you can walk through and see a lovely variety of tropical birds roaming around and they have some lovely goldfish in the pond inside. There is a wallaby enclosure where you can go in and hand feed them, remember to bring pound coins for the feed machine.
They have a small troop of ring tailed lemurs where you can walk in with them too.
There is also a 7 day return on your ticket so such good value if you wanted to return.
The animals all look very well cared for and are easy to see even for children.
Isle of Wight Zoo is an animal sanctuary that houses exotic animals including big cats, Madagascan animals, and other creatures. The staff are friendly and encourage visitors to participate in the activities offered.
I saw the lion from so close to I had the best of the experiences.
The key is that you need to be in the right place in the right time. If you go to the animals right after food was served, they'd be probably sleeping at a corner. So choose your time wisely.
Also, they give some questions and stamping games to kids, so it keeps them excited.
Good place.
Note: you will end up walking a lot so wear shoes and carry water bottle.

Highly recommend breakfast with the tigers. Got to see the lions up close, the monkeys being fed and the tigers walking around. The sausage and egg roll was also very nice. And a bonus of a hot drink or juice. 90 minutes and we got to see every animal and sit and eat our breakfast. Only £7.99 per person. Will be returning.

Lovely place to visit, the keepers really know there stuff and all animals are well looked after. You can walk through the lemurs enclosure, there was one male employee (don’t remember his name) who really knew his stuff when we were talking about the lemurs - would highly recommend and with the ticket you can go back again within 7 days.

Amazing experience here today! We had a lovely time seeing all of the animals and knowing they are now happy and safe here rather than where some of them were previously.
There is some lovely areas to walk through and sit down at, with lovely views as well.

We visited the sanctuary in the 2nd week of the Easter holidays. Its a lovely place, very well run and clean. The animals are all well looked after and the staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. We listened to 2 of the talks which were great. We had tea and cake in the all Vegan cafe which was very nice and good value. Would definitely come back.
Sarah Martin — Google review
Awesome and well looked after with a lot of renovation going on to to make it even better.
This is not a zoo it is a sanctuary for animals to have a better life. It has some lions, tigers, racoons, lemurs, goats and many more different animals.
The big cats all look happy and you can get surprisingly close and they don't care you are there, they just go on there daily business.
Lots of information is dotted about as some animals have injuries from being Miss treated from previous owners.
It also has information about each animal and there characteristics.
This place is not big but you could spend a long time looking at the animals as they are so close and can even watch some of them being fed.
It has a cafe which sells really nice food and a small shop. The play park will be an added bonus.
When we went it was half price so fantastic value and a lot of work is going on to make a new small monkey enclosure which looks really good.
For everyone who says it's unfair to keep these animals I say they are rescued and now have a chance of a life with great keepers. Just listening to them shows they care.
On a side note you have to pay for the car park which was £3 for 10 hours as it's owned by someone else.
chris Evans — Google review
I really enjoyed it here. The place isn't massive but you can tell straight away that it is about the animals they do have and not how many people they can pack in. The staff were friendly and informative and the animals seemed very well looked after.
I also enjoyed the fact they have left some of the original WW2 fortification in place (now part of the surrounding wall) that you can still look around in places instead of just blocking it off.

A great day out for kids, adults and teenagers too! Interesting selection of animals and feeding time for the tigers and lions was exciting. Pretty gardens to walk through. Not interested in the war stuff, skipped that junk. Monkeys were cute.

We went there on Saturday with a family having on young 4 year old. It was a nice and sunny day. All the animals were out and sunbathing. We were lucky to see all the tigers, lions and other smaller animals as well. Don't expect it to be a zoo as you won't find big animals there. They have 3 tigers and 4 lions. We also met a lovely couple who adopted a tiger at the zoo. They have been talking to the lions and tigers there for like 10 years now. It was fun overall.

We arrived at lunch time, paid our £3 to park for the day then paid the £59 to get in (2 adults 3 children)
It’s “ok” I wouldn’t say it’s worth the money and I left thinking the experience could have been so much better.
It seems to be a very tired Zoo in need of money being spent on it.
However I must say the walk in dome enclosure was brilliant and that good we went it twice.
If you are coming here with friends I’d recommend ticket sharing as you can use your ticket to come back again within a week for £1 each.

The sanctuary has improved alot since I was last there. There are new spacious cages and work on the grounds. It was cold day when I went but was pleasantly surprised to see the animals outside.
There is a small cafe on site and considering its size had a varied menu. Will be going for another visit when it's warmer!!

Fantastic place to visit, lots for kids to see, playpark is excellent, cafe smelled amazing although unfortunately we'd already eaten when we got there. Free parking for disabled badge holders. Worth the costly entry, staff very knowledgeable and happy to talk and answer questions. Plenty of staff about too.

Small sanctuary but worth a visit. There is plenty of parking, the staff are very friendly and helpful and there are plenty of experiences to take advantage of (meet the meerkats etc.). The big cats are well worth seeing and there is good visibility across the enclosures so plenty of opportunities for taking pictures.
There is a cafe and gift shop on site.

Had a day trip to the Isle of Wight and visited the wildlife sanctuary.
It did look a bit run down from the outside but don’t judge a book by its cover! total change once inside.
Plenty to see from lions, tigers, monkeys….etc and the enclosures are well maintained. The animals have plenty of room to wander around and trust me you feel very close to them rather than viewing from a far.
Duration between 2-3 hours
Friendly staff and food was good value for money.
I recommend it no matter what age you are. It was very enjoyable and hope to visit again.

Great small zoo with a great ethos based around saving animals from circuses and other situations they shouldn't be in. The animals can never be released back into the wild, so this zoo takes care of them. It's slso a charity...so well worth a visit to support them. And the cafe is also great...with lots a scrumptious gluten free homemade cakes. Recommended...

We had a wonderful visit. The Sanctuary (definitely not a zoo!) is well run by passionate and interesting staff. A good range of talks over the day, and the additional cost meerkat experience was well worth it. A very enjoyable day

Excellent place to take the children. We were super lucky to see everything. Reasonably priced and you get free entry to come again. Downside is you have to pay for parking which is an extra cost as the sanctuary do not own the car park. They have a small gift shop which is reasonable and they have a cafe. The cafe is quite small and could do with being bigger. People couldn't find a table for lunch it was that busy. Not a very large selection on the menu either.
The sanctutuary is lovely to wlak around quite big with so many animals to see. The talks are great and very interesting. We saw lions, tigers, monkeys, Meercats, wallabies, farm animals, lemurs and much more. They also had a reptile bit. Everything was well sign posted and easy to get to.
The playground was amazing my daughter loved it. With slides and swings! It's a great size with lots for children to do.
It wasn't busy looking around as we went in half term and the weather wasnt great. On/ off rain. We saw everything and at times felt like we had the park to ourselves.

Our first time to the Isle of Wight and to the sanctuary. My two Daughters and I really enjoyed our time here. I have mixed feelings about ‘zoos’ but many of these animals have been rescued from terrible circumstances and the sanctuary no longer breed (hence are now knows as a sanctuary and not a ‘zoo’). Enclosures are spacious and full of enrichment. Knowledgeable and friendly staff and the vegetarian cafe was excellent with much of the food vegan (just need some more vegan cake!) aligning their ethos with animal ethics. Keep up the amazing work 💚

I love the animal sanctuary and am a regular visitor. They have an incredible group of animals rescued and rehomed from different places, some who had horrible past experiences, but are clearly well cared for now. There are interesting little talks through the day as the animals are fed. It's also great to be able to watch some of the animals online on the webcams on the sanctuary website.
Anyone with WWII interest can see one of the PLUTO pumps which supported the DDay landings and has been refurbished and is now hosted in the old battery.
Access to the sanctuary comes with reduced parking (free for members) in a great location for the beach
Dinosaur Isle is a museum on the Isle of Wight, UK which houses over 1000 fossils and life-sized dinosaurs. The museum is designed to resemble a pterodactyl, and presents the geology and fossils of the island in an introductory exhibition.
A great indoor experience that’s not just for rainy days.
From outside, Dinosaur Isle doesn’t look like much, which is a shame as it’s really great inside.
The exhibits and models are great and there’s much more to see than the size of the building might suggest.
Craig Poole — Google review
Dinosaur Isle is always our stop off for the rainy day of our holiday. As we were in the middle of a heatwave we didn't have a rainy day. It was lovely and cool in there!
There's loads of little activities for young kids. Keeps them entertained for quite a while which I found compensates for the relatively small size of the attraction. Carers also get in free, so make sure to take advantage of that if you can.
Dino' Isle doesn't seem to have changed at all over the years. That is until you get into the gift shop at the end. It used to have a great selection of Dinosaur themed items at the end. After our last visit it seems to have turned into mainly a toy shop on par with the other smaller shops in Sandown. Not many dinosaur themed items in the shop unlike previous years we've been there.
If you could sort out the gift shop this would be a 5*.
This is a great little stop over, especially if you have younger children.

Really enjoyable morning spent at Dinosaur Isle. This is a museum of two halves, the first with lots of information, we took one of the activity sheets which were pitched just right for our children aged 7 and 10. The questions kept them involved and reading the information and looking at the exhibits. The second half in the dinosaur hall is interactive and really good fun. Lots of hand sanitiser everywhere and not too busy so felt very covid safe. Great shop at the end and reasonably priced.

Great dinosaur 🦕 museum. Staff there are very friendly and informative. If you ever find a fossil they are happy to look at it and tell you what it is.
The museum is very interactive lots of things for kids to touch and figure out what it is. Lots of buttons everywhere to press. We even got to touch real fossilised dinosaur bones and other fossils.
This place is wheelchair ♿️ and Buggy friendly. They have lots of parking spaces around the museum and have a good amount of disabled parking bays. The entrance is on ground level with no steps so easy to get in and out with wheelchairs or baby strollers.

Excellent but starting to wear around the edges.
It's great and the kids loved it. They spent along time in the sandpit uncovering the bones and I really enjoyed the information boards. I don't remember when the animatronic dinosaur last worked, I know it did on opening, isn't it about time it was fixed? A few running repairs and a couple of replacement bulbs and it could be a top quality attraction again. We'll be back but probably only once more if you don't improve this once great day out.
I'd estimate about 2hrs to do it all.

Nice museum located on the beach front. Parking is discounted of the entrance price which is nice.
Overall it's not a huge place but it's a priced reasonably and I guess would be one of the many attractions when at the beach front (you have the amusement arcade, mini golf, nets, the beach all close by).
Lots of interesting things to learn but I think I enjoyed and learned more then the kids.

Visited in October from Singapore. I've been to a few dinosaur museums and I learnt the most from this one. They have a lab in the museum with a friendly team that tell you the history of the island's dinosaurs and allow you to get up close and personal with some of the fossils. I highly recommend this place if you are visiting the island!

Rubbish weather so decided to go here for the day and it was ok. I think it's one of them places where once you've being once you wouldn't really go again.
Also I think it's overpriced for the tickets to enter. For the size it's not big at all and can be done within a hour.

What a gem! It's one of the BEST smaller museum collections I've seen. Some amazing and real artefacts to look at. Pink iggy blew my mind. All the information was easy to read and understand and a lot of fun interactive activities for the younger ones too. The staff were very friendly and informative. It's definitely an underestimated place on the island. 🦕

This place was way better than I thought and a bargain at £8 for an adult. I think some of the displays were a bit too much information for little kids but there is interactive displays to keep them entertained. Any kid who is a huge fan of dinosaurs will have a field day!! Great collection of fossils. As 2 adults we felt like kids again 😁 The gift shop has everything you can imagine dinosaur related and is full of pocket money priced items. The clerk was great fun too 😁 If parking in the adjoining car park, let them know as you get £2.50 off your parking.
Sandown Pier is a structure located in the town of Sandown on the Isle of Wight. The pier, which is a popular attraction for tourists and locals alike, was first opened to the public in 1879. It has undergone several renovations over the years and now features various amenities such as restaurants, souvenir shops, amusement arcades, and games. In addition to these attractions, visitors can also enjoy picturesque views of the sea from various points along the pier's length.
Alverstone Mead is a stunning nature preserve offering visitors the opportunity to observe a variety of wildlife, including friendly red squirrels and numerous species of birds. The woodland walk is lovely and there is a great hide for spotting animals. While parking can be challenging during peak times, it's best to leave your car in the nearby village and take a short stroll along the old railway path.
Great place for red squirrel spotting but the road leading to the entrance is for private access only - need to park elsewhere and walk there.

Took a long time to get to the right spot, but I can finally say that I've seen red squirrels in the wild. If you are fit enough to walk for around 5km, you will love visiting this place. There are not many places to stop and sit down, but the views and sounds of nature are amazing. I'll be back as soon as possible.

Got to see red squirrels in the wild, which for a mainlander is very uncommon. Definitely recommend going late afternoon or maybe early morning as that when they are about.

Lovely woodland walk and great hide for spotting wildlife. Very friendly red squirrels and lots of birds to see. Parking could be tricky when busy, best to leave car in village and walk along the old railway path.

Fab to see the Red Squirrels. There’s a stopping area halfway towards the hide , sit quietly and you may see them

We were on the Isle of Wight for 3 days, desperate to see red squirrels and wasnt disappointed. Husband saw 2 run across the path as soon as we got there, we continued along the path and I managed to see 2 more. Lots of birds around, could hear woodpeckers too. We were walking slowly and quietly looking all around us, then along came a woman power walking, on her mobile on speaker, with a brown and white spaniel dog, off lead, running around, wet and dirty so obviously been in the water. Had no chance of seeing any wildlife after that! Thoroughly enjoyed the walk though.

Parked off the road opposite the lane and walked up the bridal way. We were really lucky and had a fantastic experience with 2 squirrels one we’ll never forget

We saw 2 lovely red squirrels & various birds. A wonderful family walk through beautiful woodlands.
But please, Google, save the poor lady that lives opposite the entrance to The Hide from window-twitching and put the correct postcode on Google Maps (if you know, you know).

Amazing place to visit and have a walk.
Try to be as quiet as you can as there's plenty of wildlife to see such as red squirrels (some are tame enough to hand feed).
