The Cristo Rei sculpture in Dili is a towering cement statue of Jesus Christ that houses a library, bar, two halls and a chapel within its structure. It's a popular tourist spot that can be easily accessed via mikrolet 12 or 01 from the center of Dili or on foot which takes around 1 to 1.5 hours depending on one's speed.
Cristo Rei mountain has the best view of the beach and city of Dili. Best spot for sunrise and sunset.
The location is the icon of Dili. Cristo rei is the tallest statue in Timor.

It seems to be a place that many enjoy from views, religious beliefs and exercise.. there are 478 steps from the car park to the statue, and 224 more steps going to the beautiful beach on the other side of the statue. It's an easy walk that should be done when you visit Dili

Nice place to see sunset. Historical statue for Indonesia and Timor Leste. Nowadays, some people do running there. No entry fee. In front of parking area, you can buy coconut, only 1$. The best time to go there, morning and afternoon for sunset.

Beautiful views. It is a little bit of a hike up stairs so it is not for the faint at heart. However going to the top amd seeing it was worth it. Just wish they kept the statue up better.

This is a lovely, favourite place to visit in Dili. It is surprisingly quiet and peaceful, even on Easter Sunday when we visited.
You can catch mikrolet 12 or 01 from the centre of Dili, or if you choose to walk it will take 1 to 1.5 hours depending on your speed. It is a nice walk past several beaches if you leave early to avoid the heat, but there are many places with no shade in the middle of the day so it would be quite hot.
The steps to the top are easy for people with average fitness. There is also a lovely quiet beach behind the hill.
There are many nice places to eat and drink along Cristo Rei Beach just a few minutes walk back from the bottom of the steps to the statue.

Super vista point. From the other side of the statue is a superb beach, torqoise water and nice diving by the cliff. From the Rei statie is a magnificent view on the city, cove and unforgatable sunset.

I took a taxi there around 6am and walked up. There were many others walking, and there were also joggers and runners. The 14 stations of the cross are marked along the way. You could take a rest along the way if needed as you embark on the 500+ steps. It was a beautiful sunrise (every Dili sunrise is beautiful!), and it made for a nice backdrop to the statue.

10-12min hike up the stairs to reach the top. with a beautiful view that not to be missed. there's some people selling drink at the bottom and middle part of the breaking point.

Came here last week to catch the sunrise.
Not many people around at that time.
The monument is on a peninsula so at the peak one can see the sea on both sides

I really love this place, its such a beautiful place with a gorgeous scenery of Dili city and the beaches. If you go to Timor Leste you must visit this place...Cristo Rei..the statue of Jesus Christ. It was built when Timor Leste still part of Indonesia. It was built on the top of a hill, we can see the beautiful beaches with white sand under.

The Christo Rei of Christ the King of Dili is a 27.0-metre-high statue of Jesus Christ mounted atop a globe at the peak of Cape Fatucama in Dili, East Timor. This is one of East Timor's main tourist attractions, was built in 1996 by the government of Indonesia. One needs to have own vehicle to reach to this place. Public transports like Microlet #12 or taxis are also available from Dili to arrive here. The beaches at both sides of this statue are beautiful. Awesome views of Sunrise and Sunsets can be watched from footstep of the statue of Lord Christ.
Learned alot about the history of Timor Leste and how they earned their independence.

A well set out and maintained facility explaining the history of Timor Leste - but ‘history’ is limited, like most other museums in TL, to colonial invasions and the fight for independence. While this is obviously a very important aspect to them - it would be great to have a facility showing the huge range of rich cultural and natural history of the country, such as the various hill tribes and varying lifestyles of the TL community.

A really nice and informative museum about the struggles this country had, with a brief history since the Portuguese colonization through very detailed information of the Indonesian occupation and the Timorese uprisings against it. It is a very small museum, so you wouldn’t need more than two hours there. 1$ entry fee. Definitely worth it, it’s good to know the history of this special nation.

A must see part of your stay in Dili.
Heartbreaking and somewhat shameful with respect to foreign countries treatment of Timor-Leste, but uplifting the resilience and perseverance of the Timorese.
Graeme Harris — Google review
Really emotional exhibits! Entry price is $1. There are numerous display cases of actual clothing, weapons and accessories used during the war. Rare videos taken by media are played on loop throughout the museum showing actual footage of the fighting. There is a replica of an underground bunker used by one of the famed fighters who actually died from his own living conditions. It's so much larger and more detailed than I had imagined. I highly recommend it. No photography allowed inside the exhibits.

excellent place to know the history how Timorense struggle for their Independence since Portuguese colonization and Indonesian occupation.
This small museum will makes you discover all unique and tragic history of Timor-Leste event you only spend one day in Dili, because it only takes one hours with 1 dollar entry fee.

A small museum that explains a brief history of Timor Leste. It's very informative and a little confronting. I think it's important when visiting a country to try to learn a bit of their history.

This is a truly wonderful museum offering visitors a unique opportunity to learn about the rich history of Timor L'Este and specifically about the heroic efforts of Timorese to resist colonial rule and to achieve independence for this beautiful nation.
A small suggestion to the museum directors -- instead of banning all photography inside the museum, why not simply ask visitors to refrain from using flash photography? I would have loved to share photos of your beautiful museum with friends and family.Thank you.

Ouch my neck hurts! The issue is, all the English words that I have to read are at the height level of a child. Also, how many people who visit this museum can speak Portuguese fluently? I just think it might make more sense to have prioritised English text for foreign visitors and to place it at a normal height. Along with this the museum needs more artifacts that aren't just endless lines of text. I think it's great, very informative, but kind of like reading one long book. There isn't much to see as a tourist in Dili, this was interesting but the museum definitely needs more variety.

A must-visit place to understand the modern history of Timor-Leste.
Sad to know they were invaded again on the brink independence 50 years ago.

Was interested as a historian in the archives. As you would expect in a new country, the archives are electronic rather than documental and are well organised.
The Resistance Museum is very well presented and succeeds well in presenting the story of the resistance struggle.

Santa Cruz Cemetery, located in Dili City, Timor Leste, holds great historical significance as the site where over 200 innocent civilians lost their lives during a tragic massacre by Indonesian troops. This event was captured by journalists and sparked resistance against the Indonesian occupation. The cemetery is a resting place for both Portuguese and Timorese citizens, with nearby graves of Indonesian heroes from past battles. Visitors can reach the cemetery from Dili using city transportation.

ArteMoris provides a wonderful opportunity to immerse oneself in the local culture through artistic expression. The artists skillfully convey their thoughts and emotions regarding everyday life and political issues in a vibrant manner. Despite the building's slightly uneven condition, which necessitates comfortable footwear, it adds to the allure of the place and reinforces the messages conveyed by the artworks. These works often depict themes such as warfare, post-destruction scenarios, and gradual rebuilding processes.

Spacious and clean inside the church. Big fans and windows guarantee air flow and helps with the hot Dili weather. Car parking available inside the church's grounds. Becomes very crowded on special days (e.g. Christmas mass). Green grass gives a fresh and colourful look to the church, differentiating from other churches in town.

The Xanana Gusmão Reading Room is a compact assortment of resources where enthusiastic volunteers are eager to guide visitors. In addition to containing a library, it also houses valuable materials related to the WW2 era involving Australia and Timor-Leste. Donations to support maintenance expenses are welcomed. The establishment further includes a modest museum showcasing art pieces and commendations. It shares similar informational posters with the Dale memorial, providing insights into the historical events of World War II.

Moderately interesting public library (a rarity in Timor-Leste) established by Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão. It has a well used reading room, a children's room, and a range of Xanana Gusmão memorabilia and awards. When I visited in April 2024 the original building, a colonial era villa, was undergoing restoration work paid for by the Japanese. Work should be completed by the end of 2024.

I talked to one of the church members and he gave me a church schedule and told me a lot about the church.
