Nagoya City Science Museum, situated in the northern part of Shirakawa Park, is a seven-story building housing a massive metal sphere that hosts the world's largest planetarium. The museum offers interactive experiences such as simulating the climate of the South Pole at -32°C. While primarily aimed at children and teenagers, it also appeals to adults with its diverse exhibits on weather, biology, and electricity. Although most descriptions are in Japanese, English translations are available for some displays.
This is a must see. If you're a lover of the sciences like myself, you won't regret making a visit here. The planetarium will definitely send you to sleep. Not because of boredom, but imagine relaxing under a beautifully arrayed night sky, with all its hosts in action. Yeah, I fell asleep twice🤭😄.
It's definitely worth every penny I paid.

My wife, two grade school kids, and I got in at 10am, and left the place at closing time. Every floor had designated sections that highlight the different areas of (you guessed it 😊) SCIENCE!
The planetarium could've been more interesting if english subtitles/captions were included (but how'd they do that might be challenging since each area of the dome-shaped ceiling was used to explain the stars and other astronomy-related topics).
An hour was not enough to enjoy the section that featured the anatomy & physiology of our body. The many interactive areas, and the several video displays really help us understand the human body.
This place is best enjoyed with that "learning" mind set, and not just "photo-ops" if you are a tourist. ¥800 for adult tickets (my kids got in for free since they are elementary students) is a "steal" for a science museum with this extensive, detailed & organized collection of data.

The Nagoya City Science Museum is an engaging and informative experience for visitors of all ages. With interactive exhibits and hands-on activities, it offers a comprehensive journey into the realms of science and technology. From practical experiments to awe-inspiring demonstrations, every corner of the museum encourages exploration and learning. Moreover, the knowledgeable staff is always on hand to answer questions and provide additional information. A must-visit for anyone seeking inspiration and knowledge in the captivating world of science!

The museum was so much fun to explore and they had really cool exhibits on every floor! Unfortunately the planetarium was closed when we went but I can imagine that would be awesome to see as well. I enjoyed the special exhibit they had going on, it did take us a minute to find it though as the stairs to the basement aren’t in the same place as the the main escalators we saw everyone taking. Definitely a kid friendly place and lots of things you can interact with.

One thing I enjoy most as a a tourist is aquariums and science museums and this science museum is well worth the stop. It is a huge place that offers a lot of exhibits and educational enlightenment. You will not be disappointed if you come and if you have children, 100% you need to stop by.
There is a lot to look at with many floors to keep you busy. You will absolutely spend a lot of time here and enjoy every moment of it. Just stop by and enjoy the museum.

Great place for adults and kids and science-driven folks. There are many activities and machines to operate, so time flies fast. We spent 4hours and didn't feel a thing. Take your time to enjoy a planetarium show.
SWAGATHA GHOSH — Google review
It was indeed great not just for the kids but even adults who yearn to learn! The biggest downside for foreigners, though, is that the exhibits and programs were all in Japanese (with some English translations mostly for the titles or names). There were a few that have QR codes for translation c/o an app called “Brother Museum Guide” so English-speaking visitors can still participate and understand the exhibits better. Even though I wasn’t able to fully understand everything I’ve seen, going here was such an awesome experience!

A very cool place to visit when you are in Nagoya with a lot of interactive science installations with English explanations available as well
Adults and Children will love this place for sure!
You can find world's largest planetarium in this place as well!

A science museum with a large planetarium inside. An unusual looking building. It looks like a UFO landed on the building. The exhibits and presentations are in Japanese only, and they seem to cater more to the school going kids. Outside the museum there is a space rocket, and a park.

one of the best places ever I visited. Its really good for kids to understand science they will lovevthis please. they have really nice insect collection. they use all of Physics theory inside this building with practically using it. Kids will love it and they will love to do science when they enjoy this place. Planetarium is the awesome place. Youe need to book ticket fast. Limited show times but many people. all inclusive ticket is around 2000¥. They have 3 options.

It was a pleasant surprise to stumble upon when exploring Nagoya.
The planetarium show is 100% recommended! Even though I don't speak any Japanese, I enjoyed every second of it.
Many of the exhibits are interactive. Make sure you take the time to explore and play with them.

A museum that is likely more fun for kids, and if you can read all Japanese kanji. There isn't much at all for English. It is mostly an activity-based museum, and there were lots of kids enjoying them. They have a rotating special exhibit, which was focused on cats at the time of my visit. Unfortunately, I couldn't enjoy it to full extent due to not being completely fluent. However, I can tell that it's a great museum.
Ramses Miki-Hanson — Google review
A wonderful experience. This museum can be both an absolute source of joy and an opportunity for learning for children. Floors 2 to 6 are full of experiments and contraptions designed to explain basic scientific theories while demonstrating real life examples and applications. The exhibition starts with hydraulics, then common electrical and mechanical theories, then comes the waves, and lastly basics of human bodies. The place is so crowded, and each child is having so much fun enjoying science that it’s hard to believe that they are actually learning science which was supposed to be difficult. There is even a train simulator where you can run and control like a real train driver, and it’s an added bonus. If you have interest in science, then it’s highly recommended. If you do not have interest in scientific theories, still it’s recommended as a fun place.
AZM Farhan Daud — Google review
Unfortunately, I do not recommend this attraction to foreigners.
The main reason is the huge lack of English signs and descriptions. There are indeed English station which support English language, but it is really 0% convenient.
Another bad thing about this, is the aim to younger kids - the majority of the museum aims to serve children, which is fine, but sadly isn’t communicated well. As a German student, it is rather boring here.
If you want to enter the planetarium, you have to order the ticket in advance, sadly I couldn’t enter it.

It's fun and interesting. Our first time here too. Enjoyed interacting with some exhibits. Hopefully the souvenir shop have better items for sale next time we visit. More refrigerator magnet please 😄
Amy Kanashi — Google review
The place is pretty interesting, it has a variety of fields that they show, from biology, to minerals and tecnology. Much of the content is the basis studied in major degrees, in my case mechanical engineering, and it would have been awesome to see some of the experiments while studying to understand them better (gears, that subject was really hard 😂)
Being said so, the only perk is that there is almost nothing in English. Everything is in Japanese and that is really sad :(
jordi colom — Google review
Perfect fir children and couples I guess, but it can very very overfilled with children. Also no English writing (which is fine of, but good to know)

I cannot recommend this museum enough. Absolutely wonderful variety of different scientific concept. I liked that the museum doesn't dumb anything down - it provides full factual information about a variety of physics, chem, bio, astronomy, earth science and engineering concepts. Everything is fully interactive and there are a number of wonderful physics/ chem experiments that you can see for yourself. Amazing.
Nagoya City Art Museum is a modern and airy museum located in Shirakawa Park, just across from the Nagoya City Science Museum. Designed by renowned architect Kisho Kurokawa, the museum itself is considered a work of art. It houses both permanent and temporary exhibitions featuring contemporary art in various mediums from around the world, including Mexican Renaissance, Ecole de Paris, and local Japanese art.
I went to see the Grandma Moses exhibition. Even though we went at opening time, there were a lot of people. There were so many wonderful works that it is hard to believe that she first picked up her brush at the age of 78.
Some of the works that left an impression on me were purchased as postcards and kept. I was glad to see Jonathan Borofsky's Hammering Man in front of the exhibition hall. This is because Korea also has the world's largest hammering man at a height of 22m.
Jeongmi Lee — Google review
Went there for the permanent exhibition, not Gaudi. Gaudi exhibition is 1,800yen and the permanent one is 300yen. No taking pictures. Well, it is normal not that amazing art works but good. The only problem is that there is not English explanation at all… Overseas tourists become to visit Nagoya, so I think Nagoya city need to prepare the globalization. Anyway staff are all amazing and you can pay the ticket for the permanent exhibition on B1F in front of the entrance.
YJ Jo — Google review
I went to see the Van Gogh exhibition. The exhibition was excellent and I absolutely loved it!
Tickets had to be purchased in advance, but you had to buy them from a separate website (called boo-woo) which is not related to the museum. This is very often the case in Japan, but was not convenient.

I personally didn't like it.
They don't allow you to take pictures. Who goes to a museum which doesn't really have new art, only old school style, already shared everywhere else and doesn't let you take photos.
Quite overpriced I would say.
Nothing very important and meaningful to see.
I would say check the museum next to it, the science one.

The Electricity Museum in Nagoya is a top destination for families and science enthusiasts. This museum offers hands-on exhibits and experiments that make learning about electricity fun and engaging. With multiple exhibition halls, the museum showcases a wide range of captivating displays that are sure to pique your interest. From the Earth section to the space section, visitors can explore various fields while satisfying their curiosity through interactive science and technology exhibits.
5 stars for people with children. This is an interactive children museum with all kinds of interesting things to learn about electricity.

Probably more for Japanese kids but it's quite nice and worth the visit even if you don't speak or read Japanese. It's got 4 levels with a lot of interactive stations. Our kids had a blast even though they don't read or speak Japanese. Highly recommended for younger kids.

The museum is mainly made for kids. A lot of interactive activities and tools, very well made and interesting... but all for kids. If you are only a group of adults, you can skip it. Except the floors map, all the rest is in Japanese only, so the interest is limited for adult foreigners.
Benjamin Thomas — Google review
Free to enter and explore, this museum has hands-on activities for kids to try. Although there is very little English, it was fun to test the experiments and learn by watching. There are interactive science shows for kids, too!
Rebecca Curtis-Ito — Google review
The place kept my 6 year old boy and 3 year old girl busy for 2 hours, with lots of buttons and knobs to play around. The models are very well designed and built. While 99 percent of the descriptions are in Japanese, parents who are interested in science and technology should be able to explain a lot to your kids. I would definitely consider for a revisit if we visit Nagoya next time.

Mainly geared for Japanese children but we checked it all out and it is worth a visit. They had good displays and plenty of interactive items. Again, google translate was working for us to decipher the tricky items of translation.
Shirakawa Park, located in Nagoya, is a lush city park featuring modern sculptures and fountains. It is adjacent to the Nagoya City Science Museum and houses the Nagoya City Art Museum. The park is a popular gathering spot with its large fountains, sun clock, and contemporary art installations. One of the main attractions within the park is the Guinness-certified world's largest planetarium at the Nagoya Science Museum.

There is a big playground for kids to play at. There were a lot of park benches for parents to sit down. The problem is the parking. If you can't walk or ride your bike then you have to pay a very expensive parking fee.

Family friendly park with plenty of space for jogs, large fields, and good shelter from the summer heat. The park has several restrooms for the users' convenience. It is near to the science museum, and within minutes walk from the city centre. I came here for a late night run, and found the place bustling with activity. Besides joggers like myself, I see many youths practicing their dance moves and groups hanging out cordially. A nice place to retreat to after a busy day.

Younger and trendier mall compared to Mitsokoshi or Matsuzakaya(older crowd). Has better dining and cafe options which are cheap considering it's a mall along Sakae. Child's meal on the 7th floor can be enjoyed for USD7, and adult set meal for USD10.

Visitors can spend hours exploring the diverse collections, including historic paintings and special exhibits like the Ghibli showcase. Even for those who may not be fluent in Japanese, the visual appeal of the exhibits is captivating.

Matsuzakaya Nagoya has a rich history, originating as a kimono and lacquerware wholesale store in 1611. Today, it stands as a prominent department store chain in Japan, with its Nagoya branch boasting the largest floor space of any department store in the country. The complex consists of three interconnected buildings: the Main Building, North Building, and South Building.
Very nice high end department store in the heart of Nagoya. My kids love coming here especially for the Pokemon Store. They have gourmet/specialty food section on the lower level B1 and B2.
I still love coming here in 2023.

This location offers a wonderful mix of shopping, dining options, and more, making it a fantastic destination for families with children. The environment is kid-friendly, which adds to the appeal for those looking for a place that caters to all ages. However, one notable drawback is the parking situation. Due to the limited number of elevators within the building—three, to be precise—finding parking can be quite time-consuming. This issue is particularly pronounced on weekends when the crowd size increases, leading to even longer waits for elevator access. To mitigate some waiting time and ensure a smoother experience, I highly recommend making dining reservations in advance of your visit. Overall, despite the parking inconvenience, the variety and quality of options available make it a spot worth visiting.

I had never visited the store before, but we came here to participate in some workshop events.
We particularly liked a workshop that you can use kimono fabric to make a bag hanger. We could choose a fabric to use from various antique kimonos, and it's useful and pretty. Kids loved the experience too. The artist was very polite and helpful.
The other workshop was to make flowers with gibier leather. It was an unique experience that I've never seen before, and it certainly became our great memory of this year's Golden Week.
I would like to attend another workshop if there is one.

Ideal place for shopping from high end to discount items for food and other consumer items, while the area also has numerous restaurants, coffee shops, sweets, and other delicacies. But it is also a good pace to enjoy certain Japanese cultural items.

After coming to Parco Shibuya and Shinsaibashi many times, this PARCO almost doesn't seem like a PARCO. It feels cheaper, a PARCO on a budget that is missing many flagship stores and the modern, futuristic look of the other ones. Not only that, it's separated into 3 different buildings with similar offerings, making shopping here an incredibly confusing and labyrinth experience that would have you go on detours to go to specific stores. It felt like a normal mall, a mediocre one at that. Bad.

Good mall with many choices, though many of them primarily targets trendy hipsters (guess I'm not one?). Walked into it trying to find a backpack, no one greeted me in any of the stores for some reason. Probably because I didn't dress like their "high-end" clienteles? The Wakamiya Hachiman Shrine is a very beautiful, ornate shrine located in the heart of Nagoya. The shrine features intricate architectural details and annually hosts a festival which is popular with locals and tourists alike. It's a great place to visit for anyone looking for an amazing visual experience, and the climb up the many steps is definitely worth it!
A fantastic Japanese shrine with intricate wooden carvings, well-preserved ancient buildings and a lovely garden.

Love the food and atmosphere...
The service from time to time is really slow and the waitresses don't know their menu at all but it is worth going to.
Drinks are pricey though...makes it less likely to go to frequently

(Translated by Google) The Loft Sakae store that was located in Nadia Park has moved to this building. The cosmetics floor had a display that looked exactly like the Sony Plaza that used to be inside the Central Park Annex, giving me a sense of deja vu.
When I went up to the Tower Records Cafe on the 9th floor dining floor to have some tea, I saw a billboard of an anime towering over me and thought, ``Ah, that's the concept,'' so I decided not to go inside. It seems to be selling various anime and artist collaborations depending on the period, so it seems expensive for a normal break.
There was an outdoor rest area outside the 9th floor with a smoking area, benches, and a drink vending machine. I could see a space with benches on the lower floor, so I wonder if it's possible to go outside from the 8th floor? You can see the sky through the gap in the building, giving it a secret-hotel atmosphere.

Munetsugu Hall, a concert venue in Nagoya, offers a unique and intimate experience for music enthusiasts. Unlike large facilities in Tokyo or Osaka, Munetsugu Hall allows audiences to feel close to the performers while enjoying top-notch music at affordable prices. (Translated by Google) There are many halls where you can listen to top-notch performers at a high price with a large audience in a super-large facility, but what is excellent here is that you can feel close to it. In such a convenient city, we have quite advanced sound equipment. The fact that the number of guests is not so large makes us feel a sense of unity as a whole. And we hold small ensembles and mini recitals every day, and many of them can be listened to at a reasonable price.
It can be said that the environment where you can enjoy concerts from a citizen's point of view is that there is no Sapporo in Tokyo or Osaka where you have lived, and that you lived in Nagoya and experienced the unique affluence. Be more proud of Munetsugu Hall! ??

Piano recitals and classical concerts by famous pianists are held here.
The other day, I watched a solo piano recital by a music YouTuber who I often watch.
It was a wonderful and colorful stage performance, with classical masterpieces by Schubert and Liszt being performed with great gusto.
This person started playing the piano when he was 3 years old and went to a kindergarten specializing in pitch education, so he seems to have perfect pitch since childhood.
People with perfect pitch seem to be able to hear all sounds in do-re-mi, but when she first boarded the Yamanote Line, she also heard the departure melody, "Water Crown," which was played in Meguro and Gotanda, and said, "Do So Do Milazo♬. It seems like it started to sound like ``Doshira Sofere♬...''.
I had a chance to say hello to them on the way home, but it was really moving to meet the people I often see on video and see them with my own eyes.

I recommend the second floor seats.
There are concerts almost every day, so you can stop by if you feel like it. I can only go on weekends, but I feel that the sound is outstandingly good. Although hard materials are used throughout, the organic shape of the walls gives it a soft, reverberating feel.
It's a very nice hall with a high enough ceiling that doesn't feel oppressive.
It's a pity that there are no toilet facilities on the second floor of the main area, as there are many elderly viewers, but I guess it can't be helped due to space constraints.
The problem is that the roads are filled with people before the venue opens. The management seems to be concerned about this place, issuing numbered tickets and announcing visiting times. I think it would be better to open the venue as early as possible and guide customers to the hall, but it may be difficult.

It is a three-story building with a small hall. Please be sure to check the performance time before visiting.
All the employees are polite and calm. I felt that the office manager seemed to be putting his heart and soul into both the audience and the performers.
This hall is small so you can hear real live music. The performances will be performed through sound-collecting microphones at all venues, but I think it's wonderful. Being close to the performers also makes me feel excited. It was founded in 2007, and it will have been 15 years in March.
Admission fee is 1,000 yen. There are also lunchtime concerts, and prices vary depending on the restaurant (nearby restaurant). Although the performers are not famous, we have invited highly skilled performers, and even those with discerning ears will be satisfied.
As many of you may know, as it has been widely aired on TV, the founder was Tokuji Munetsugu. After working many jobs, he and his wife opened a small coffee shop and began offering curry. His rice was popular, and he started running ``Curry House CoCo Ichibanya'' and developed it into a large company.
He established Munetsugu Hall to support young performers, and is famous for owning several Stradivarius violins (worth 1 billion yen), the world famous violin, which he lends out to young performers. .
As a side note, there was a lot of talk about Curry House CoCo Ichibanya being acquired by Curry House for 30 billion yen in a TOB.

I visited for the first time on January 8, 2023 for Shoko Suda's viola recital.
It was created with the aim of creating a space where you can enjoy comfortable acoustics and close enough to hear the breathing of the performers, so you can clearly see the performers' fingering, and immerse yourself in the wonderful tones played by the viola and piano. I was able to. I especially liked the last song “Ochibamatsu” (written by Hideo Kobayashi) ^^
If you make a reservation in advance, you can get a set plan that includes a meal (or sweets) at Ume no Hana etc. and a concert at a reasonable price, so I would definitely like to try it out next time.
