Located in the province of Santa Cruz, El Calafate is a small town situated near the Southern Patagonian Ice Field. A popular tourist destination, it serves as the entry point to Los Glaciares National Park, where visitors can witness the impressive Perito Moreno Glacier and explore its constantly changing icy terrain. Additionally, the Glaciarium provides an informative introduction to the diverse array of glaciers found in this region.

The park boasts a diverse ecosystem with numerous trekking routes that allow visitors to discover local plants and animals.
This is a lovely national park located a short ride from Ushuaia. There are many hiking trails and the scenery is spectacular. Give yourself a full day of hiking and bring a picnic lunch. We saw a lot of wildlife and wild horses.

This was a beautiful little national park. The roads are dirt/gravel, but are easy to drive. If you don't want to pay to take a tour, just rent a car in Ushuaia. The driving is easy, even for foreigners. The entrance fee for US citizens was 5,500 pesos per person. Have cash, the credit card reader wasn't working. The do have camping available in the park.

If you get a chance to visit this beautiful national park, definitely added to your schedule. It is not too large to see all of the interesting places in one day, but if you have the time I would recommend two days. Or you can buy a ticket for 8500 Argentine pesos that gives you admission for two days within 72 hours of the first entry. Otherwise, you can pay 5500 pesos per person for a one day pass. A lot of people go there because they want to see the post office at the end of the world, but this appears to rarely be open annoyingly so don’t count on sending your postcards from there. There are some rather easy hikes that you can do, there are horses roaming around and beautiful vistas, and you will have a great day seeing beautiful scenery and landscapes.

It's an amazing place to visit. We took a taxi tour of the park and every stop was amazing. The end of the world post office and the surroundings were breath taking.
If you're taking the train, make sure NOT to book the last one (I think 3PM) so that you can get off the train., enjoy the park and return by the last train available.

So good except cafe shut at 3pm. No beer reward for a very decent hike. Get the minibus from the sales hut in the car park on the front. Tame hawks and foxes and geese. So many lovely birds to accompany you in the climb up through the woods. Roots form steps. Easy to get down. Hard work going up! Views are very rewarding

Fantastic national park! If you have only one full day in Ushuaia spend at least half of it here. I went both hiking and on a little flatwater rafting tour with Canal Fun. Both were fantastic. I highly recommend buying tickets ahead of time with the QR code or on the website. You can also send a postcard from the southernmost Argentine post office in the park.

Went there by bus from Ushuaia (private company). Started from the post and then finished by the « baia lapataia »
The driver was really friendly. The entrance fee to the park was 13K
The trek around the park is quite easy and enjoyable

Very nice area for trekking and visiting viewpoints. We had a car so it was easy to get around. We enjoyed the coastal walk by the post office the most.
Lots of people on tours so arrive early if you can. Weather changed quite a bit during the day too so needed wind/waterproof clothing.
Post office has postcards to buy and send at a reasonable price not too different from centre of Ushuaia.
It was free entry when we went (early Nov 23) but think now it’s high season you have to pay a national park fee.

Tierra del Fuego National Park encompasses a rich and varied ecosystem. The aspect is wooded mountain and the many trekking routes allow you to visit it far and wide. You can get to know local plants and animals. Some points are really interesting, such as the mountain and the lake (Roca / Acigami) which halfway mark the border with Chile, or the Lapataia Bay which determines the end of "Ruta 3" or the post office further south of the world in Ensenada Bay.

Tierra del Fuego National Park was beautiful! I visited in December of 2022. There were plenty of beautiful trails, including water views, rock formations, and a variety of flowers and other plants. The scenery provides a surreal backdrop for canoeing and hiking.

Biking distance from Ushuaia you can enjoy the park. (You can rent bikes in town. Wear a Buff neck gaiter, dusty dirt road )
Enjoy the park.

The park is beautiful but you are forced to walk on dirty roads together with cars a lot which really isn't something pleasant. One could find nicer trails around Ushuaia...and for free.

Beautiful national park. They do have an entrance fee which can be paid in cash or card. They have a variety of trails to choose from. Most trails are relatively easy in difficulty and are well marked. The views are absolutely beautiful.

Worth touring with one of the travel companies in Ushuaia if you are time-strapped but better yet to rent a car, study the maps and spend more time on the beautiful trails. There are trails of a few hundred meters to 1.2km to 7km or even longer. Take your time and linger. The train? Cute and worth doing once. By the way there are great camping grounds and rafting experiences. It’s completely safe too!

It is a beautiful National Park. However, after seeing National parks in USA (like Yosemite, Yellowstone, Glacier National Park etc.) experience was quite underwhelming. We were hoping to see lots of nearby mountains with snow covered peak but there were none in good visibility range.
Entrance to the National Park was very poorly managed. Only two people manning the ticketing room with long lines. No restroom. No place to sit down. Utter waste of half an hour to get tickets. They should start issuing tickets online and in advance. Tickets cost almost US $15 per person basis and a rip off for a short visit.
Train Ride is also very ordinary with no spectacular scenery.

Stunningly beautiful. If you are time-crunched, take one of the half-day coach tours from Ushuaia and let them show you some highlights. Recommended.
Martial Mountains offer a renowned hiking trail leading to the glacier summit with breathtaking views of Ushuaia. This trek provides an adventure like no other, especially for those who have never encountered glaciers before. The snow-covered terrain demands effort but rewards with stunning panoramic views of the city and surrounding mountains. Visitors can opt for the chairlift to skip some distance on the trail, although winter visits may not be possible due to harsh weather conditions.
Beautiful views of the city and the mountains too. If like the adventure you must make this walk through the snow and reach the glacier. The views are extremely rewarding the effort. Also you can take the chairlift to skip the first part of the trail. I'm not sure if you can visit it during the winter because of the snow and the weather.

(Translated by Google) The place is one of the main glaciers in the city of Ushuaia. Access is easy although the path is very steep and quite tiring. But anyone can access it at their own pace. There is a point where it is no longer so easy to access because it becomes difficult. The path to the glacier can be done either along the ski slope or along the side of the river, a path that I recommend for the landscape. From above you can see the entire city of Ushuaia.

The Perito Moreno Glacier in Argentina is an awe-inspiring natural wonder that showcases the raw power of Patagonia. With dimensions of 3 miles width, 19 miles length, up to 700 meters depth and a surface area of about 97 miles, it is among the largest and most dynamic ice fields on Earth. The glacier's constant movement results in daily advancements up to 2 meters and creates massive icebergs that break off from its face.
Beautiful place. I recommend taking the bus ride ($20) there as it is cheaper and you can always opt to add a free for the boat (+20) and walk on glaciers (+300). You will have to pay for a park entrance fee ($25). The walking trail has a few paths (blue, yellow, red and green). Within a 3 hr period, you can probs walk it twice.
If you can't walk up stairs too easily, there's also an elevator and path that allow you to roll to the best views as well.
Note there's two parking lots, north and south. The north one was the elevators. South is where you would embark on the boat ride.
The red section is awesome because there's less people hanging there, since the tourists make it sound like it's the worse thing to climb up all the stairs, but it ain't so bad!

Is better to go there from early in the day and spend the whole day there to find all the amazing viewpoints of this enormous glacier! I didn’t try the kayak experience due to lack of time but I am more than sure is worth it. boat trip was for around 1 hour, hearing the cracking of the ice is something unique!

One of the few glaciers that renews and expands, glaciologists do not know the cause of this fact. During the visit you can see and hear the loud breaking of ice and falling into the lake. Take the trip by bout to the head of the glacier, as well as to walk along the glacier on well maintened trails. The ultimate experiance of unspoilt nature!
Irena Knez — Google review
An absolute must see when in the area. But there is NO NEED whatsoever to book a tour with a travel agency. The glacier is located inside the glaciers national park. The entrance fee has to be paid directly at the gate, regardless of how you get there. (Be advised, Argentina gravely discriminates foreigners by making them pay ten times as much as locals, even children older thank five don’t get a discount if they are foreign).
Once inside, everything is public, free and very well explained. So, depending on how many people you are with, the best option might be to take a taxi or a rental car, just do the maths.
You can additionally take a boat to cruise towards the glacier, but due to security reasons it stays relatively far away. You can actually get closer via the well documented walk ways inside the park. Also, during transit you are crammed into a closed space with almost no ventilation, so covid might be an unwanted souvenir of you go that route.

Absolutely gorgeous and breathtaking place, the immaculate infinity of white is stunning! There is shuttle bus straight from El Calafate for about 1h drive.
The platforms for walk are well maintained and gives you a perfect view of the Glacier

Once in a lifetime experience! Did both the boat trip and the walk in the park ! If I’m honest, I personally enjoyed the walk in the park more than the boat trip ! Great panoramic views from the trails; did both the green and red one ! Don’t you worry about clinic up the stairs… it’s not as hard as you think ! Some of the view points are too busy, but if you walk a bit further, you’ll manage to get some quieter points to sit down, catch your breath and enjoy the experience! Make sure you stuck up on food and snacks as you’ll definitely feel hungry! The weather can change drastically, so make sure you’ve got your waterproof jackets on, umbrellas etc … Unfortunately, no penguins or any other animals… also there are professional photographers on-site, costs sth like £5 I believe… might be worth having some cash on you. Enjoy!

There are two alternative ways to reach Perito Moreno Glacier. You can do it with boat navigation or either taking a bus from El Calafate to Los Glaciares National Park. in my opinion you have to do it both ways. Only then will you admire in all its glory the astounding size and beauty of the Glacier.

Perito Moreno was astounding. I arrived first thing in the morning before any crowds got there, and walking up, I could hear the cracking of the glaciers, which was like nothing I had ever heard before. Many people walk on the boardwalks that give you good views of the glaciers, but there are tours you can book to walk on the mini trek, which is a portion of the glacier upfront that they have carved to make it easy to walk. I booked a tour with Cielo y Aventura and went on a full trek, which was six miles in length: hiking up the mountain, down the other side, strapping on crampons to walk on the more natural glacier that had not been carved, then back up and down the mountain. Regardless of your desired level of physical activity, there is something for you here. Come and enjoy the glacier!

One of the best experiences traveling I've ever had. If you ever come to Calafate you must go to this place, this is just amazing and the pictures don't match what you feel in person. I went to do a mini-trekking with 'Hielo y Aventura' and it was such a great experience.

Ok some practical info based on my personal experience:
Entry to the park is 12k which you pay at entrance. Not all cards are accepted, I think either Mastercard or Visa for example did not work. So bring cash or different cards.
When you get at the parking lot, there is a small office to buy boat tickets if you want. The northern side is way prettier, so get tickets at Southern Spirit (yes the name is confusing). We were able to buy them the day before, but a few hours before it was all sold out. A few km back you have another company which had more spots, but they do the south side which is supposed to be a bit less pretty than north. Boat is 30k so like 30 euro/dollar.
There are toilets, a small shop for snacks, and a cafetaria for sandwiches etc. There are multiple pathways to follow, all with clear signs. However, for example the blue pathway was supposed to be 1.5 hours, but we walked it in a normal pace in like 20 to 30 minutes from the boardwalks to the car/parking lot. All on boardwalks so an easy walk, but worth it. Other option is to take the shuttle that leaves every few minutes, for free, from the boardwalks to the parking lot and other way around.
We ended up missing the boattour. I think the north side is definitely worth it. The southern side i heard different opinions. Either way it brings you closer than when you are on the boardwalk, but from there it also was quite impressive already. Also there are qr codes to scan at the start, for an audio tour with a few recordings with info on the glacier.
Timing: most people visit in the morning and stay until like 13.00, so if you can get a taxi or own car, I would say visit after most people are gone. We found that later in the day, like around 16.30, it was even less crowded. Also, you could easily take 2 hours for the boardwalks to experience it in a chill pace and view from different sides. The ride is like 1hr15 from Calafate.
Last but not least: transfer. We ended up renting a car with 2 others we met through the airbnb host. 75k for the day, with ServiCar near the main street. You do need creditcard to rent though. But had a good experience with them. Other companies were all sold out. Oh and parking is free.
Hope this info helps anyone who is still planning this trip:)

In the middle of nowhere… yes, you have Patagonia, specifically the Perito Moreno Glacier, one of the most interesting and emblematic landscapes “down under”. Its immense ice surface passes from Argentina to Chile in a unique landscape. Visiting the Glacier National Park is a must-see experience for anyone that stops by in the region of El Calafate (around 80 km from the Lake).
Arriving there, we had time to observe the Glacier from the front, through the various walkways (4.7 km in the total), lots of blue tone of this immense glacier and we took the opportunity to photograph it from a wider angle of view, observing how it rises from the lake to the top of the mountains. Maybe if are luck, you gonna see its ruptures….

100% This is definitely a must see!!! I even flew to the area from Buenos Aires just to see this and I 100% recommend that that everyone should do this at least once in their lifetime. I don't know how easy it is to see glaciers in general, but the magnitude of these glaciers, the history, and just amazing biology around everything is astounding. If you're lucky you might even see a penguin but this is definitely went to highlights of my trip to Argentina and I 1000% recommend that you see these! I have a friend who went to a glacier national park, and she said it was nothing compared to these glaciers which are gigantic and so numerous.

Perito Moreno is that kind of lifetime experience which makes you feel alive and in the same time very small in a powerful Universe. A unique and the most genuine experience in terms of natural heritage from entire world. Maybe on the same level (from my perspective) with volcanos from Central America. From the all 3 possibilities to visit this place, I highly recommend Glacier Trekking. Is the perfect way to enjoy and understand and feel the power of Ice. A symphony of BLUE, light and shadows. We had the opportunity of an amazing sunny day, with a great, divine sunlight. A day to remember ! It worth every second !

Awesome experience. We arrived to Calafate at 1 pm and still decided to go: hired the same taxi driver who brought us to the hotel from the airport. Doesn't seem to be much more expensive comparing to the prices of tourist organizations here. Yet we didn't want to go with a big group of other tourists or to loose a day waiting for it till the next morning.
If come to the bus terminal - there are options to buy transfer to Perito Moreno from there, at least I saw the kiosks of the shuttle service companies.
Overall - great experience, even though we were unable to eat properly throughout the day, as the restourant next to the Northern port closes at 16:30, and in the restourant near the catwalks the hot meal service stops at 16:50, so we had to eat cold sandwiches. Yet we enjoyed the walk afterwards (the Park remained open till 7pm), and were happy there were not so many people any longer. The taxi driver waited for us and took us back to El Calafate stopping at the miradors.
I was super happy we managed to get to the last boat (at 15:45), that we did watch the Northern part of the glacier (even the color of the water is nicer there), yet I should admit that the boat trip added little to the experience - the view that opens up from the catwalks in the park is much more magnificent! And there are no icebergs (unlike the experience I had in Iceland, where the boat trip was 100% justified).
Anyway - it's all doable, even when your flight is arriving mid-day, when nothing is pre-booked and you have a starving husbend and a lovely 1 year old kid 😉
The Egidio Feruglio Paleontological Museum is an impressive natural-history museum located in Patagonia, showcasing some of the most significant fossil finds. Visitors can explore four galleries featuring life-size dinosaur exhibits and over 1700 fossil remains of plant and marine life. The informative plaques are enhanced with nature sounds and a video, offering visitors a glimpse into the world of paleontology. Tours are available in multiple languages, allowing for easy access to all visitors.
Museum was visited as an organised tour from port.
English speaking guide was provided by the museum which helped to make the experience wonderful. Guide was fluent in English, passionate about the museum and exhibits and was able to answer complex questions.

Unbelievable place, nearly unrivaled natural beauty. A full tank of gas will let you drive in, see the whole park and drive out. You can see a lot of thr park in 2 or 3 days, if youre not doing challenging hikes. Some of the best views are on the drive in. Hotel options are limited and even very basic hotels are quite expensive. Mountains, glaciers, lakes, and rivers create a majestic landscape. Some useful information:
1. The park is located 112 km north of Puerto Natales and 312 km north of Punta Arenas. The park borders Bernardo O'Higgins National Park to the west and the Los Glaciares National Park to the north in Argentine territory.
2. Paine means blue in the native Tehuelche language and Torres means towers (referring to Towers of Paine and Paine Horns).

In early March, 2023, we visited Torres del Paine National Park and it is an absolutely amazing landscape and natural beauty. As we hoped to see sunrise of the Towers of Paine, we stayed at hotel Refugio Chileno (or lodge with 6 people in one room) for one night. It took about 2-hour hiking from the parking place to the hotel. It was a cold and raining day. Next day at 4 am, we started the 4-mile hiking to Towers of Paine. This was a hard hiking and took almost 2 hours to reach. Fortunately we had a sunny morning and captured the beautiful and magical views of Towers of Paine in the morning glows. Truly breathtaking. At 8 am, it started to rain and the Towers of Paine was covered by cloud. So whether you can see the beauty of Towers of Paine really depends on the weather. Anyway this is a place one should visit.

Pristine National Park in Argentina with the blue waters of the lake set against the snow capped mountains when we visited in October.
Many view points along the road as you hug the lake with one or two large viewing platforms providing beautiful 180 degree views of the area.
Simply breathtaking.

Each season has its own wonder. flowers and birds in spring, silent falling snow in winter with hares and foxes running when you least expect. and I can go on with the hot summer with small waterfalls, never ending nights watching the stars. and at last the autumn with reds covering the forest. its a marvellous place... always, even when the wind blows and the rain falls, and you can do nothing but watch...

Nahuel Huapi National Park hosts a vast glacial lake that offers various activities such as kayaking and fishing. It is possible to explore the lake by booking an excursion from Puerto Panuelo to Victoria Island or Puerto Blest. The park also features breathtaking scenery, including sequoia trees and hiking trails. Visitors are advised to bring their food and drinks due to limited options available at the cafeteria, which often has long lines.

Parque Nahuelito is a unique park filled with life-sized dinosaur replicas and an educational center. It is conveniently located off Bustillo Avenue, although a car is necessary for the 20-minute drive from downtown. The one-hour tour takes visitors through a natural forest where knowledgeable guides provide fascinating information about the dinosaurs, all of which are in 1:1 scale except for two. The friendly guides work patiently with children and offer great opportunities for funny photos at reasonable prices.

The guides are very friendly and they do their work with love and patience for the kids. At the end you can buy some funny pics for about 1500AR. Prices are reasonable. Don’t loose the opportunity to visit this place and learn about Dino’s

Our experience was fine. The place is small. They force you to take the guided tour, so they can stretch it out. Would take about 10 min to walk through on your own if you could. The dinosaur figures are very nicely done. Most of the focus is on local species, which is cool. I would say it's a pass.
The Hotel Puerto Blest is a charming establishment located by a lake, boasting sophisticated accommodations and two spacious dining areas. Guests can relax in the hot tub or take advantage of the playroom and small swimming pool. The restaurant may have limited choices but dishes are scrumptious. Isla Martillo is a small island situated in the Beagle Channel, accessible only by boat. It boasts of a penguin colony and is highly recommended for those who wish to see these charming birds up close. However, it should be noted that not all tours cover this island. The Hamberton family owns the island and offers guided walking tours lasting approximately 40 minutes.
Full of penguins🐧. Extremely cold and windy even on a sunny midsummer's afternoon, so bring a jacket or two, scarf and gloves!

This is a fantastic experience. You can book a trip to this colony in Ushuaia at the port. The drive is around 1.45 hours.

Great if you wanna see lots of penguins. Some tours do not reach this island so beware before making a reservation.
There is one company belonging to the Hamberton family that has the ownership of the island and they include a walking tour over the island for around 40min. With normal boats you will still approach close enough to have a good look at them ( near 3m)
Hope it helps.

Among all animals, Penguin is the most popular animal among human because of its similarities to human walking and dancing movement. They choose Martillo Island their summer home. We watched 3 types of penguins: Magellanic - most common one; Gento - looks very similar to Empire penguin; and King penguin St - the most charismatic.

Isla Martello is a special and beautiful place because you are able to see a colony of penguins in their natural habitat. There are many tours that bring you to the island, but I booked with Piratours because they are the only ones who are able to take you onto the island and walk around. Keep in mind that I was there in December (summer time in Ushuaia), and the weather was still cold. I had on three layers of pants, five layers of tops including two layers of wool and two hooded jackets, earmuffs, and gloves. You generally need to take a trip on the highway to get to a boarding point for a boat. The ride on the water can be very choppy and INCREDIBLY windy. The island, itself, was also windy and cold, but that is the environment penguins are adapted for! If you should go, please note that on one hand, penguins don’t fear humans in that they are wired to believe their predators exist only in the sea. On the other hand, we were there shortly after they had given birth, and our presence did cause them stress as they were trying to protect their young. If the penguins start nodding their head side to side, it is cute to us, but it is a sign of stress for them. Keep this in mind as you enjoy getting to spend time with these beautiful creatures!

Oh my gosh! We booked a tour with Piratour which is (apparently) the only tour where you can actually get off of the boat and get within arms reach of the penguins of Martillo Island.
The tour cost $15,000 ARS per person (currently $140.00 USD regular conversion and $70.00 with the Blue Dollar) where you take a van from downtown Ushuaia to the port for Martillo island (about 2 hours away).
From there it's a short boat ride to Martillo Island (like 10 - 20 min).
You spend about 1 hour on the island surrounded by literally thousands of tiny penguins! You can't touch any of the penguins but you are within arms reach.
One girl on our tour had a penguin nip at her boots - that's how close were were.
The guide took us around part of the small island explaining the different types of penguins, mating, migration, etc.
It was like being on another planet & was 100% worth it!

Laguna Esmeralda is a beautiful lake that can be reached by a relatively easy 2-hour hike from Ushuaia. Although the hike is not very technical, it can become muddy and wet in certain sections, especially when crossing the peat fields. It is recommended to wear long rubber boots to keep your feet dry. On weekends, the lake attracts many visitors, making it more crowded than on weekdays.
Simply top hike. 3 hours altogether, well, count on 1 more to enjoy the beauty around you.

One of the easiest trek in Ushuaia area. Therefore there are so many people on weekends. It's still beautiful and nice to go there but if you prefer less people then you'd better go there on weekdays. And get prepared for wet feet.

Beautiful laguna not too far from Ushuaia. The hike takes about 2 hours up. Not very technical or demanding but it can get very muddy. After the muddy forest section you get to a peat field where it is very difficult to avoid getting wet. Most people try to get their own dry path but with little success. Wearing long rubber boots is recommended.

The Beagle Channel, located in the Tierra del Fuego archipelago, is home to unique and rare wildlife such as dolphins, sea lions, whales, penguins and elephant seals. This vast channel serves as an international border between Chile and Argentina and offers a breathtaking opportunity to witness the wilderness of Tierra del Fuego and Antarctica.
Wonderful scenery in calm waters. It doesn't matter how you approach Ushuaia, there's mountains causing challenging turbulence every direction. It's a test for a seasoned pilot. We got tossed, but the pilot managed to surf the gusts for a fairly smooth landing.

Gotta say this place is up there with some of the best in the world , from the equipment and amenities to the outstanding natural beauty and quality of its powder ! Simply breathtaking and enjoyable.

Cerro Castor is one of the best places for skiing.
What I like -
They have places to rent equipment and clothes, shoes, helmets, etc.
Places are accessible even when you put your ski applied to feet.
Good places to eat food (breakfast, lunch and snacks). The food is not much expensive and was decent in taste.
Places are available at ground level as well as on level 1 to eat and stay inside if someone is not feeling well.
They have RFID cards to access the cable car 🚡. You can go multiple time up the mountains.
You can opt for the coaching for skiing. They provide 2 hour private coaching for 60000 pesos. Also they have group coaching cost around 25000 pesos per person. The prices can vary based on the season, time and inflation.
What I did not like -
The cost of clothes is a little expensive compared to the places available in the city.
You could rent/buy clothes at a cheaper rate at the shops available in the city.
Things to consider -
You could buy the cerro castor pass directly via cerro castor website. If you go via any agency then you could be paying more price.
You should have good clothes, probably wet proof.
Better to buy your own glasses, they won't rent sunglasses and hand gloves here. You need to buy those.
You need to book your commute in advance, you can find difficulties finding a car or taxi if you have not booked your commute.
vaibhav kalhane — Google review
If you came to Ushuaia in the winter and didn't get any snow, you should definitely go here. The snow is always here. It's either snowing or the snow is produced.
Carlos Pereyra — Google review
Traveling around the world and visited over 30 different resorts. And I never feel so poor guest services and poor communication and guidance from the staff at cerro castor. It was definitely a very sad experience besides that the trails are decent and the signs and app are OK. There were no double diamonds but a very nice trail for having fun with family. Sadly, around 4:30, staff wanna go home be aware of that.
The views are unreal. The end of the world it's a place that you should visit. Bring some dollars and pesos as well sometimes they don't have system or will for provide help.
The powder is not consistent but that up to mother nature. They work very well on keeping the trails smooth. The groomer doesn't overwork the snow and that gives you a terrific experience for speed and control.
It is not cold it all but if you're not used to cold weather bring proper gear.
You can land a helicopter on the resort so your experience can continue over the mountains. Definitely a place to go visit.
Jean Carlo Vignatti — Google review
Fun mountain with good snow. Gets crowded like the rest of Ushuaia and expect long lines and busy slopes. Getting to and from Cerro Castor can get hectic.

The Galería Temática - Historia Fueguina museum in Ushuaia is a great place to learn about the region's history. The exhibits include scenic dioramas of people and objects, which make the museum easy to explore. There are also audio guides available for additional information.
The audio tour of this "thematic gallery"/ museum is definitely worth the time. If you don't want to pay for a museum, at least go through the gift shop and take pictures in the garden in back. There are several great spots for selfies and group pics with fake penguins as if you were in Antarctica.
Heather Jasper — Google review
It lasts about 1 hour and includes an audio guide. The exhibit is 2 floors with the first floor focusing on the life of the Yamanas (indigenous tribe) and the second floor focused more on Antarctic expeditions, Charles Darwin and Fitzroy and the history of convicts.
It's a great way to learn more about the indigenous people called the Yamanas and how they adapted to the harsh weather conditions by building canoes out of bark, sustaining themselves with meat from penguins and seals and braving the elements and hunting completely naked.
There's a lot of displays with statues depicting various figures and even opportunities to get some photos with the statues.
If you've got an hour to kill in Ushuaia, go for it. There's an amazing souvenir store located here as well and the cafe on floor 3 has a nice view and atmosphere. Enjoy.

Highly suggest this museum brings back their previous pricing structure. To charge almost 4X for non residents and to not have a student discount is very discriminatory and uninviting. Better places to spend your money.
Also - be aware that they say they accept USD but then if you try they will often turn you away because they don’t have enough change. Really such a bad experience. Don’t try and visit and let it ruin your day.

Harberton Ranch is an 1886 farm that offers visitors the opportunity to explore history and nature museums, tour homesteads, and observe penguins on a nearby island. The staff at the estate are committed to providing an educational experience while also respecting the penguins' space. Additionally, there is a maritime museum close by for further learning opportunities. Museo Acatushún is a museum dedicated to showcasing local marine mammals and birds with a fantastic collection of rare species, including beaked whales. What sets this museum apart is the fact that it also functions as a working laboratory where volunteer scientists clean and study remains of species found on nearby shores. The owners are knowledgeable about the exhibits and provide an interesting glimpse into the history behind them. Visitors can expect to learn a lot from friendly, English-speaking staff who are happy to answer any questions.
This humble location stands as one of the world's most significant repositories, boasting an impressive assemblage of over 2,800 marine mammal specimens. Over the course of several decades, an enchanting collection of marine creatures and avian wonders has been meticulously curated. What sets this collection apart is its ethically sourced origins—owing to the distinctive geography, deceased animals naturally wash ashore in close proximity, sparing them from deliberate harm for the sake of preservation. Embarking on a tour of the museum and engaging with its scholarly department unraveled remarkable insights into the local fauna, as well as the tireless endeavors in studying and conserving these precious species. The guides accompanying the experience exuded patience and an abundance of knowledge, elevating the entire encounter to a realm of captivating fascination. Truly, this was an extraordinary and unparalleled adventure, leaving an indelible mark on one's memory.

The museum is worth a visit when you're at Harberton Ranch. If you take the guided tour, they will guide you around an active biologists centre where they recover bones from creatures such as whales, dolphins and sea lions. Really interesting!

We booked a penguin tour and they brought us here. I felt the lady giving a tour was trying her best but switching each sentence between Spanish and English meant it was really tough to maintain concentration. I think it would be better if they did the Spanish tour and then the English tour.

This is a fantastic little museum that has hundreds of skeletons of animals that have died naturally in the area. I visited as part of a tour with Piratour after visiting the penguins on Isla Martillo.

Fantastic collection of cetacean bones and other sea mammals, some, like the beaked whales, are quite rare. But what makes it especially important is that it's a working lab, where volunteer scientists clean and study the remains of the species that wash up on nearby shores. We loved the tour (and we don't do tours!), and enjoyed peppering the scientists with questions. Very friendly, English-speaking, welcoming and incredibly informative. The museum is worth the trip down the excellent gravel road, all by itself.

The Glaciarium Patagonian Ice Museum is a contemporary museum that showcases educational exhibits on ice and glaciers with state-of-the-art technology. It offers bilingual displays, films, models, and interactive exhibits that highlight how glaciers form, continental ice expeditions, and the impact of climate change. The museum aims to raise awareness of these issues through its innovative approach.
Really interesting and informative displays and models about snow, ice and glaciers. Also the history of Glaciology and the pioneer explorers. Amazing films about the Moreno glacier and the arch collapsing after blocking the lake! The ice bar is fun and worth the extra 3000. (Combined ticket 10 000). Gift shop and cafe on site too. Definitely worth the visit when in town. Free shuttle from the centre (see location on Google maps)

Their free shuttle bus from downtown was on time, clean, and efficient although there was zero effort to enforce the mask mandate. We were the first group to arrive as they opened the museum. They only had only one person selling tickets, the same person who explained how to go through the museum. The cashier was lovely but our bus of 20 took well over 20 minutes to process. There were lots of displays along the walls that provided great educational visuals and stories about glaciers. They were in good repair and the English translations were better than most we encounter. The center of the room dioramas were lame and not as professional as the exhibits on the wall. We were about halfway through the exhibits when the very LOUD tour of the museum started. It was in Spanish and I was trying to read English and it is not a huge space so there was no way to escape it. It ruined the experience for us. The descriptions are so thorough and detailed that we wondered why a tour of the museum is even necessary. The movie starts about 50 minutes after you get there and lasts 20 minutes. We were hoping to see some environmental or climate change message but it never occurred. The movie was OK but the seats seem to be broken or to have aged poorly as they were quite uncomfortable leaning forward. You have about 20 minutes after the movie before bus departure to see more of the museum if you like. The restrooms were impeccably clean and well-maintained

Absolutely amazing if you have even small interest for glaciers, how they form and how they all disappear!
Ivan Dilchovski — Google review
Easy to get to, takes a little over an hour to read everything and watch the video of the glacier collapsing. Video has subtitles in English. The tour is only in Spanish and from the few words of Spanish I could understand, I felt ripped off that there wasn't the same offered in English. The ice bar was also closed for repairs which we didn't realise until we arrived. Charged 3500 per person, very overpriced for what it was. Wouldn't recommend to an English speaker unless you're super bored.

Great place to learn about glaciers and history relating. It was very informative. The Glacio Bar was a 20 minute event in a freezer bar that was freezing cold, time for two drinks in glasses made of ice, and a fun place to take a few pictures.

This museum is excellent. Definitely a must visit when you come to El Calafate. The screens, models and information is superb. It’s really a great experience to compliment your visit to the Perito Moreno Glaciar. Our tour guide, Paula, was very professional, kind and answered all our questions. You could tell she really knew all her stuff. Can’t miss coming to the Glaciarium and Ice Bar. They also have free transportation to and from the Glaciarium.

We enjoyed our trip to the museum, it is build with a lot of images and some interactions.
However, if you want to make people aware of climate change and its damages to the world (as the museum does), start with yourself and tell your drivers of the citycentre bus transfer to the museum to turn the engines from the buses off while they wait! The bus engine was running for over 20 minutes with nobody in the bus... It was a bummer on the nice visit we had.

This was a surprisingly informative museum of glacier formation and glacial geology in an out-of-the-way place. Don't hesitate to visit as a foreigner: all exhibits are in Spanish and English, and the film has English subtitles. Despite understanding only 70% of the tour in Spanish (my Spanish is so-so) I found it to be a great summary.

A small minibus takes you to the Glaciarium every day 20' or so. We paid to also enjoy a bar where you could have a drink or two in ice made glasses. The -15 degrees bar demands good clothing and it's included in the price of the ticket. The Glaciarium itself is a very interesting one.

Decent museum. You have to come prepared to read a lot in order to learn. Not good for the young and/or impatient. The movies in the two theatres were ok but thematically the same (the collapse of the ice bridge). We had also ordered tickets to the glacier bar but later realized we had a time slot 90 min from when we entered. There is not enough to do for 90 min and we ended up leaving without seeing it. Overall it felt affordable (USD $10 / person incl the bar).

If you are interested in the science behind glaciers, this museum is a must. Very well done. We did a three glacier tour first and then saw the museum, which I think is a good way. You can also go to an ice bar in the basement and have drinks out of ice glasses. Fun addition to the museum.

I absolutely loved my time at the Glacier Museum and the Glaciobar!!! If you’re staying at the city center, there’s a shuttle that takes you to the museum and brings you back. You can catch it on Libertador and 1 de Mayo near ACA Hotel, called Glaciarium.
The entrance fee to the museum + ice bar is 10,000 pesos, and the bonus is that it includes 2 drinks (alcoholic or non). The visit begins with a very interesting Spanish tour and presentation about glaciers.
Then, I went to the ice bar, where the temperature is -15 degrees Celsius, but no worries, you’re given a warm cover and gloves. You have 25 minutes to enjoy the igloo and 2 drinks inside the ice bar. Pretty awesome experience.
If you need more time to explore the museum and listen to their interpretive videos, you’re welcome to walk around after you’ve visited the ice bar.
Don’t forget to visit the cafe and enjoy the panoramic views of the Laguna Argentina. 🇦🇷

Fundación Ecocentro, a science museum, showcases the unique marine ecosystem of its area through artistic presentations and comprehensive scientific research. Exhibits include demonstrations on the reproductive behaviors of right whales, dolphin vocalizations, and southern-elephant-seal harems. A touch-friendly tide pool allows visitors to interact with sea creatures. The building features a three-story tower with glass walls and a library where comfortable couches are available for reading.
Very educational exhibits and amazing sensory rooms where you feel you are under water with the whales. Staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Cost may be a bit much for what there is but it is going towards a good organization.

The most special to me was to see the live animals in the little aquarium they have. The staff that was there to teach us a bit and answer questions about the animals was really good. There was an documentary at 7pm that lasted until 7:40pm - it lacks English subtitles and if you watch it all you might not have time enough to see the museum without hurrying up as the museum closes at 9pm and there are long texts to read and videos to watch. The view from the top and outside are beautiful.

It boasts of an information center and lakeside car camping facilities, along with a 25km trail circuit that follows the course of a mountain stream up the meseta. The Punta Tombo natural reserve is a sanctuary for an enormous colony of Magellanic penguins, where up to 500,000 of these amazing creatures congregate between September and March. Visitors can enjoy the wildlife and explore the area using designated trails. However, it's important to respect the animals by keeping a safe distance and not disturbing them. The reserve can get very busy with tour groups but visitors are advised to arrive early or go at their own pace to truly appreciate this unique habitat.
An amazing place to visit, you can see the magallanic penguins right next to you. It's a bumpy ride to arrive, but it's totally worth it!. Keep the trash with you as there are no trash cans . It can get very windy so prepare for it. Make sure to go all the way to the end of the trail as you will see fantastic views. Totally recommend!!

Fascinating natural paradise. Perhaps the most accessible place in the world to observe (Magellanic) penguins. Here is the largest colony in the world. If you are lucky, you can see guanacos and penguins together. It is not so easy to keep the rightly required 5m distance, because the very curious animals do not keep to it. Visitor center with access regulation. The area is accessible by footpaths, on which one may move freely.
About two hours drive each way from Puerto Madryn or Trelew, part gravel, but not difficult. Good to connect with the Peninsula Valdes.

Also, there are restrooms and a deli with cafecito and snacks.

This is a truly magical place!
Arrive before 10:30 am and enjoy it in peace without tour groups. It’s sad to see people getting too close and basically harassing the animals. Don’t be one of those people. Give them some room. The crowds are awful, but they move quickly. Come on your own and go at a nice slow pace - soak in every moment of this great place. We were there November 16 and saw just one mother with hatched chicks. Soon there will be many more!

This Magellanic penguin rookery is worth the drive. It is amazing and you can get very close to the penguins. Take the hike to the coastline where you can watched them diving for food. There were a large number guanacos that were fun to watch. Check out the museum which contains genuine gaucho artifacts and arrowheads from native people.

You can see a thousand penguins close up and personal. There is about a mile long trail that winds its way around the sanctuary and the penguins are on both sides guarding their burrows. It can be crowded if there are cruise ships in port but the bathroom facilities are more the adequate.
Valdes Peninsula, a rugged nature reserve on the Atlantic coast of Argentina, is a perfect habitat for a range of fascinating marine and birdlife. It's one of the best places to see wildlife in Patagonia, with leisure beaches, cliffs, and caves where you can spot seals, whales, southern right whales being endangered species here. The area is also home to elephant seals, sea lions, orcas and thousands of Magellanic penguins living in colonies.
Península Valdés in Patagonia is a site of global significance for the conservation of marine mammals. It is home to an important breeding population of the endangered southern right whale as well as important breeding populations of southern elephant seals and southern sea lions. The orcas in this area have developed a unique hunting strategy to adapt to local coastal conditions.
Peninsula Valdes is located in the Argentinean Province of Chubut. The peninsula of approximately 360,000 hectares reaches more than 100 kilometres eastwards into the South Atlantic Ocean. Its roughly 400 kilometres of shoreline include a series of gulfs, including the extensive Golfo San Matias to the North and Golfo Nuevo to the South, both covering several thousand square kilometres. The dynamic coastal zone features rocky cliffs of up to 100 metres in height, shallow bays and shifting coastal lagoons with extensive mudflats, sandy and pebble beaches, active sand dunes, and small islands. The wetlands, some of them today also recognized as a Wetland of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention, are associated with the tidal areas of the Peninsula and provide significant nesting and resting sites for numerous migratory shorebirds. The diverse terrestrial, coastal and marine ecosystems of Peninsula Valdes contain natural habitats of extraordinary value from both a scientific and a conservation perspective.

Great scenery of the patagonic shore. Whale avistage on board is greatly recommended even for small child. The small salt lake is recommended (entrance is not inviting but do not be afraid of the route, It is fine but stop 50 m from the end). Most of the route is rolling stone so speed over 60 km/h is dangerous. Entrance is charged 280 AR$ (for Argentina residents over 12, half for under 12 and free for under 6) 560 AR$ for foreings, and rented cars entrance is surprisingly charged (80 AR$).

Entrance fee is not cheap but this is a place you need to visit if you are around. The peninsula is a vast land that is protected as a natural park. You can see plenty of wildlife such as penguins, guanacos, rabbits, sea lions, crabs, orcas and blue whales (the latter two depending on the season).
The only downside is the lack of lodgment inside the park as everyone needs to return to Puerto Piramides for the night, which means c80km drive from Punta Norte. You may need to come back to this spot many days in order to spot the orcas or the blue whales so you may end up polluting unnecessary. More organic campsites nearer the watching spots are necessary.

San Martín de los Andes, situated in the northwestern Patagonia region of Argentina, serves as a starting point for access to Lanín National Park. This park features the impressive Lanín Volcano and a diverse array of wildlife, such as guanacos and pumas. The town is located on one of the many glacial lakes within the park called Lake Lácar and offers visitors a boat pier and beach.
Punta Arenas, situated in Chile's southernmost Patagonia area, is a city close to the tip. It serves as a starting point for trips to the surrounding wilderness and Antarctica since it is located on the Strait of Magellan, which connects the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Puerto Varas, situated in the southern region of Chile's Lake District, is a town that boasts impressive views of the active Osorno Volcano and Calbuco Volcano, both visible from the southwest banks of Lake Llanquihue. Perito Moreno, located in the northwest of Santa Cruz Province, Argentina, is a charming town situated just 25 km east of Lake Buenos Aires. It's important to note that this town should not be mistaken for the Perito Moreno National Park or the famous Perito Moreno Glacier near El Calafate. Serving as the capital of the Lago Buenos Aires Department, Perito Moreno offers visitors a unique experience with its picturesque surroundings and local attractions.
