Aharen Beach is a serene and secluded public beach surrounded by clear blue waters and powdery white sand. Accessible by bus from Tokashiki Port for a small fee, the journey offers breathtaking views of the beaches. The beach boasts an abundance of tropical fish and sea anemones, making it an ideal destination for snorkeling enthusiasts. Visitors can rent equipment easily around the area.
The beach was absolutely beautiful, perfect if you haven't got a car because there is a bus from the port and it only takes 10 minutes. The reefs are beautiful and you can hire snorkeling equipment and life vests if you want to feel more safe. We went early September and it wasn't too busy but certain spots above the reefs can get a bit more crowded.

A much better beach for snorkeling than what is available on the more popular, nearby Zamami island. There are 2 swimming zones.
The central supervised (lifeguard) zone is not good for snorkeling because you are required to wear a life jacket if you snorkel in this area. Plus it’s mainly for swimming, too many kids etc.
The outer 2 non-supervised zones (just to the left and right of the central zone) are for snorkeling, just don’t go too far out or too far left (boat launch) or right (rocky peninsula) or the lifeguard will come out and tell you off.
I didn’t try the smaller zone to the right, but there is a great amount of sea life and beautiful coral in the larger left zone. I saw a sea snake, conger eel and many friendly fish both big and small. I found Nemo!
I wanted to go to the small island just in front of the beach area, but the banana boat ride there via Jetski is ¥1000 per person.
There are loungers, umbrellas, etc for rent. This beach has no shade.
There are 4-5 secluded beaches on the other side of the peninsula which you can get to via 2 paths you can see on the satellite view (5 min walk from this main beach).
Just in front of the main beach entrance is the Octopus Garden restaurant (currently not visible on Google maps - marked a closed previously during Covid). They have wonderful food and the second floor outdoor/sheltered dining area is the only place you can eat with a sea view.

Paradise, you can take a bus from the port, one way costs 400 yen and the last time departing back to Tokashiki port is 16:30 , you can spend about 6 hours on the beach. Water is crystal clear and there are many water activities such as snorkeling/diving.
Best access is by marine liner from tomarin port, it takes only 35 minutes one way and costs 4.900~ Yen roundtrip.
Elisabeth Deponte — Google review
Aharen beach is reminiscent of the Mayan riviera with white sand and azure water. However there are some rocks and some crushed corals in the water that can be a bit uncomfortable on feet. The sand can also get quite hot to walk on. The beach is quiet usually before 11am and after 6pm. Beautiful natural rock formations. Windy days can make snorkeling less clear. Clown fish, sea cucumbers and various colourful fishes are spotted here. Not too much natural shades. Some beach umbrellas available for $. Banana boat rides and seadoo available for pay. Explore beach for sea worms, sea cucumbers, lots of hermit crabs, and more.

Unspoilt and no crowd...simply paradise. The next time if I am here again, i will stay in the Aharen Village for a few days. Lots of choices for accommodation. Simple accommodation, yet heavenly!
Jessica Yee — Google review
As you take the bus from the tokashiki port for 400 yen, you'll see beautiful views of the beaches that are just simply breathtaking. Arriving at aharen beach, the water was sparkling, crystal blue, and jumping in with just goggles, I got to see so many different fishes. The sand was soft and gentle on the skin, and there are many rentals available around the area. No regrets coming here
Evan Ma — Google review
The beach is gorgeous. I rented a beach bed and umbrella for ¥1,900 and a float for ¥400. The swimming area is a bit small but if you rent snorkels, you will be able to see clown fish and other kinds of aquatic life among the corals.
Nicole Emma Low — Google review
This beach is a true gem with its exceptionally clear waters, a rarity found nowhere else. During our visit in late October, the beach was blissfully uncrowded, especially in the tranquil mornings, creating a genuine paradise-like atmosphere. I highly recommend bringing a parasol to shield yourself from the intense sun, as it can be quite aggressive. And don't miss the incredible snorkeling experience, where you'll encounter marine life unlike any other place in the world. An unforgettable and idyllic destination!

I highly recommend this beach. Needles to say it’s beautiful. It’s obvious.
There is a bus from the port to the beach and also for the beach to the port *400 yen for one way so you don’t have to rent a car. I was thinking of resting a car but I didn’t have time to go around the island because the ferry left at 4 pm. If you stay in the island, you should get it but if you’re on a day trip, you don’t need it.

Only an hour on the ferry from Naha and then a short bus ride from the port, and you're in another world. Beautiful beach with toilets, changing rooms and cafe.

Beautiful beach!
Definitely try snorkelling here. The corals are really close to the beach and you can enjoy a lot of different fishes and corals there.
A bus is going from the port to the beach and it takes about 10 minutes.
It also takes you back in the afternoon at around 4pm. Just be aware to bring enough cash, because you can't pay with card anywhere on the island.

Nice lonely beach during weekdays. Unfortunately the ocean washes out floating garbage on the East side, facing the Sea Friend area, that nobody bothers to clean. The municipality could use the eco tax we all pay to maintain it better. The West side of the beach is clean.
Jordi Albatross — Google review
Very peaceful beach, easy to go by bus from the port (15 min). You can rent umbrellas, chair set, snorkel kit and more then. There are a few restaurants nearby and also bathroom facilities (shower costs 100 ¥ for 5 min).
The beach itself is amazing, crystal clear water and you can even see some fish while snorkeling.
Tokashiki Island is a spacious and sturdy landmass with white-sand coasts and diving destinations, as well as accommodations and camping areas. The island boasts excellent opportunities for snorkeling and hiking, along with a considerable nightlife scene. It resembles the Caribbean in many ways, but only certain debit cards function on its sole debit machine. Visitors adore the tranquil, spotless atmosphere that encourages relaxation and rejuvenation, making it an ideal vacation destination to visit multiple times.
The island is just a little paradise

Tokashiki Island is the largest of the Kerama Islands, which are about 30 kilometres west of Okinawa's main island. There are plenty of idyllic spots for snorkeling, diving, and sunbathing in the summer. Soak up the sun, take a dip in the sea, and watch the beautiful sunset at this pristine beach.
Ravi Kumar — Google review
I had a fantastic time at this island, as we were able to take a bus quickly to one of the most popular beaches, and everything was so well organized. Once we got to the beach itself, they were lockers, toilets, showers that you could pay to use, and so many people selling different things. You could rent a banana boat, go diving, going to snorkeling tour, or just rent a parasol umbrella for the beach and chairs. We decided to do a Snorkeling tour for ¥5400 per person, and it turned out to be absolutely amazing, as it was private. Apparently, the day before they had 20 people on the same tour, but for some reason, there was only two of us for our timeslot. We were able to snorkel in three different areas. If you snorkel on the beach, you were limited to a very small area. But if you get a tour, you can explore more areas.

I loved this island. It was not too big and not small. Great snorkeling, good hiking. Pretty good night life as well. I could of spent a few months. It reminded me a lot of the Carribean. Note to travelers thou only some debit cards work on the islands only debit machine.

Beautiful island. It has two beaches but the bus goes to only one of them, the Aharen beach. The bus costs 400yen per person and it doesn't run the whole time so you have to be careful not to miss it. Also you need to be dry when you enter the bus. They do put more than one buses to accommodate for all the tourists visiting, so don't worry if you see the bus getting full.

This is a must go island in Okinawa. Super clean and calm beach. A complete paradise!
Simply amazing and worth the trip if you are in Naha, remember taking food and beverages with you since there is almost nothing else on the island. It's a 40 minute walk from the port area with a bit of hiking. The beach itself is long, clean and the water hides some coral reefs with many different types of fishes so remember taking the snorkeling equipment.

Beware: Lifeguards enforce snorkeling with a life vest and inside designated swimming area only. The sea life mostly avoids the designated swimming area so the snorkeling is sub par. I recommend choosing a different area to snorkel. Otherwise, it’s a beautiful beach.

Is it the second most famous beach after Aharen Beach?
There are no connecting buses, so you'll need a car or a motorcycle. Cycling can be a bit tiring as there are ups and downs. As a result, there are fewer people and it is quieter, so you can spend a relaxing time.
The beauty of the beach is almost on par with Aharen Beach.
There are no shops, but there is a Tokashiku Marine Village accommodation facility with vending machines, public toilets, and showers (300 yen).

Amazing beach with few tourists and very blue colored water. Sand is nice and soft. Just be aware if you want to snorkel on your own you need to rent a lifevest. You are not allowed to snorkel without wearing a lifevest even if you are an experienced swimmer. Went there by bike from the port, a very though ride with lots of hills and would not recommend anyone doing it without being fit and have good stamina and condition.

I appreciated how sheltered and shallow this cove was. Perfect for snorkeling with children. Water was calm and clear for snorkeling, the only annoyance were the very small jellyfish occasionally seen by our group that gave a small sting, but they were not in abundance, thankfully. The beach is somewhat narrow at high tide, the water becoming surprisingly close to our rented parasol ~ 3m from our feet. So keep that In mind when placing your items. Bring ¥100 coins if wanting to use the showers at the nearby public restroom.

Nagannu Island, an uninhabited paradise known for swimming, diving, whale-watching, parasailing and wakeboarding. The island is well-managed with fast transportation to and from the mainland. Accommodations include beach cottages which offer a constant supply of beverages through the use of vending machines. However, there is no potable water available on the island so visitors must bring their own supply.
I love my overall experience, there are a lot of activities on the island ...one day isn't enough, we went snorkeling and parasailing... our snorkeling guide took a lot of pictures for us and so cool, he made sure that we enjoyed our experience...

A beautiful island with a great company running it. The transportation to/from was fast. Once on island, we enjoyed our beach cottage. A vending machine provided a constant supply of beverages. Lunch was delicious, albeit a bit pricey. There also seems to be no potable water, so bringing a supply of water would be helpful.
We did stay at the cabins overnight. The cabins were cute. We appreciated the air conditioning. The one downside to the cabin was pest management. We found a roach or two during our stay.
Overall, we do highly recommend this experience. Seeing the sun go down on nearly our own private island is cool. Seeing Naha at night is neat. A weekend stay is a must or at least a quick day trip!

It was an amazing experience.
I do recommend going there for relaxation and meditation, it's completely isolated and you feel you own the island.
We were about 20 person on the island.
There is option to stay for a night and return on the nextday, also lots of water sports and activities.
The beach was very big but with rocks.
And you can swim in a specific region with water depth of 100 cm.
The round trip costs almost 5700 yen.

I went when there were minimal people going. The water was amazing! Perfect for snorkeling and definitely bring beach shoes. The boat to the island left 5 minutes early so be there early for both going there and coming back. If you miss the one and only boat coming back you'll have to stay the night. Bring cash.
Jonathan Park — Google review
A big disappointment and expensive for what it is worth.
Although the blue colors surrounding the island are magnificent, the corals are all dead. And there were a few points that made the experience not so enjoyable. Let me explain:
- they broadcast safety and amenities messages on loud speaker regularly. It definitely spoils the beauty and the calm of the island.
- the food given with the meal coupon is ridiculous. Either just soba or rice curry. No meat, no veggies. Portion is tiny. So bring some food and you can buy extra.
- my worst part is that they force you to rent a life jacket to be allowed to snorkel. I told them I know well how to swim but the guard said « its the rule ». Ridiculous to force people pay for an extra 500y for an unecessary lifejacket as everyone has a foothold. But it you just swim with a mask and no tuba, then no need for a life jacket lol.

Best island located near Okinawa. Takes only 20 mins by fast boat . The water is amazing . Crystal clear and blue . Easy to locate fishes even without snorkel equipment. Has good water sports too . Free showers . Lunch served is decent too . Better to carry own food and liquor if you wish to enjoy fullest . Also good if u take beach chairs on rent or an entire cabin if a big group. Although the かわいい staff お姉さん is very kind, but I must say it’s the worst experience during my Okinawa trip. The sea is very beautiful, but if you want to go into water by yourself just like on other island, strongly suggest you not chose this island from Dec. to the end of Mar. I saw they have snorkeling project even in March, so I thought it’s possible to go into the water. But no. One of staff told me: because it’s forbidden that’s why some visitors who want to swim bought snorkeling project(So they can go into the water). He said it’s dangerous without a watcher, but the swimming area is not far than dock! Totally don’t understand…Look such beautiful sea but you are not allowed too get in by yourself

Today, it is easy to visit due to the well-maintained road, but back then people could have escaped by walking up and down the trackless roads that resembled animal trails through the jungle. More than 300 people, from babies to the elderly, lost their lives in the sloping valley, which is about the size of a 50-meter swimming pool. Apparently, the family sat in a car and detonated a grenade. It seems that he even killed his family by tearing their clothes.
It must have been tough. All I can do is put my hands together. Beautiful butterflies were dancing in the valley.

A short 30min climb to a viewpoint that rests in between Tokashiku Beach and Aharen Beach, but didn’t offer excellent views of either.. although the blue hues of Tokushiku Bay does look pretty cool. The place was deserted when we were there, so at least it makes for a peaceful walk along the nature trail. Good place for a brisk stroll, if nothing else.
Tip: If you’re on a bike like me, you’ll need to park at the戦跡碑 stone plaque location on Gmaps and walk in a bit to find the start of the trail.

It takes a short nice walk through the forest to reach the observation platform (about half an hour from Aharen). The entrance to the trail is near the war memorial. The view from the platform is stunning.

(Translated by Google) There are several routes, but the shortest one is from the south entrance. Even so, you will have to climb the stairs, so you need to be prepared. From the observation deck, you can see both Aharen Beach and Tokashiku Beach.

いくつかルートがありますが南側の入口から行くのが最短距離です。それでもひたすら階段を登るので覚悟して登る必要があります。展望台からは阿波連ビーチと渡嘉志久ビーチの両方を眺めることができます。
