The Mikasa Historic Memorial Warship is a refurbished naval vessel that played a significant role in the Russo-Japanese war. The Japanese consider it to be of great historical importance, alongside the HMS Victory and USS Constitution. Visitors can explore the exhibit room and take tours of the ship's deck, guns, and bridge. Below deck, there are interactive exhibits such as video games depicting historic battles and virtual reality experiences.
I was pleasantly surprised by this one. The Japanese consider the Mikasa to be up there with the HMS Victory and USS Constitution in terms of naval historical significance. While the guns and bridge above deck and fun to see there is a bunch of fun interactive exhibits below deck and this would actually be a great rainy-day activity for kids. There were video games where you could drive the ship in one of it's historic battles or a virtual reality headset to look around the ship. I'd return to this one as the 45 minutes that we gave it did not give me nearly enough time.

As a battleship tour guide myself, I loved walking around here! The history is pretty cool and most of the information is available in English. The entrance fee was small and there is a cool collectable coin machine down on the second deck, near the captain/officer area.
Buy tickets in cash using the vending machine next to the souvenir shop about 100 ft to the south.

Very exciting and lovely to visit this warship.
There are multiple route choice based on your time availability.
Either you can roam for an hour or for 30 minutes or more. They have marked arrows with different s colors to show the path fit for each time constraints.
Very easy nagivation and interior is too good to visit. I even enjoyed VR story. Loved it. I will go next time again for full visit.

A well maintained and interesting museum ship for those interested in naval history. The Mikasa is the equivalent of the USS Constitution and HMS Victory for Japan.
Entry basically gives you complete access to the entire ship both above and below deck, and there's actually a lot of see below deck as most rooms have some kind of interactivity, displays or explanation.
There was some scaffolding and maintenance on some sections of the ship when I visited, but it didn't prevent access to anything.

Very interesting warship since 1902 and stopped serving 1926. You can join more than an hour inside it. VR battles exists as well.

As a a person who enjoys history and military ships thoroughly, I was a bit disappointed. Don't get me wrong, it was cool to see a ship with so much history and such a crucial role, but I expected more. The ship needs some paint and maybe more decoration, as it looks empty and forgotten. At least you can climb to the upper parts, which is nice. Once inside you have plenty of informative panels, but many of these are only in japanese, which is weird considering that many others are translated. They have audiovisual content like short documentaries and vr films, but their age is really obvious, and some simply don't work. Overall, I got the feeling that so much more could be done. It seems like this ship is treated first and foremost like a Japanese national treasure, which it is, but I think that they should go further, and treat it like what it is: the last pre-dreadnought battleship in the world. I feel like they put too much focus on the russo-japanese war, forgetting other aspects: how did the sailors live? How did the ship work? Why did this kind of ship become obsolete?
And this leads me to the last part of my complaint, which is the general tone of the museum. They constantly talk greatly about the gallantry of the sailors who fought to defend Japanese sovereignty against Russian imperialism, which in turn was a pivotal moment in anti-colonial history. Sorry, but no. Japan fought and imperialist war against another imperialist power. Japanese independence was not at risk, the control over Korea was. I attached some pictures of panels with particularly egregious comments. It's a shame that the people who manage the museum can't accept the fact that Japan was as rabidly imperialist as the westerners.
All in all, I would only recommend it to people who really enjoy history and big guns. Otherwise, not really. At least it's cheap.

Mikasa was the flagship of the Japanese Navy during the battle of Tsushima where Japan destroyed the Russian navy, cementing themselves as a rising world power leading up to world war 1.
Really cool museum ship. It's very well maintained and you can go throughout the entire upper deck. On the lower decks there are some exhibits that are very cool.
They also have a ve setup where you can experience the battle of Tsushima. And a video game where you can lead the fleet. Not a ton of English support overall, but there is enough. If you are a fan of naval history definitely stop by.
Alex olson — Google review
I consider this as a must-visit if one loves the history of Japan. The ship is in extremely good shape and it explains the history of the Russo-Japanese War in details, the whole history which was skipped at the Maritime Museum of Baltysk, the headquarter of the Baltic Fleet of Russia.
Tony Wong — Google review
A must for any Naval buff and maritime enthusiast. The Mikasa holds a special place in Japan's naval history and is their equivalent of HMS Victory and USS Constitution.
The ship itself is undergoing extensive cleaning and preservation work however this doesn't restrict access to the upper decks and casemate guns.
Inside you will find extensive information regarding the Russo-Japanese war and the epic Battle of Tsushima of which Mikasa was the flagship. The history is covered in multilingual panels and artefacts.
If particular interest are over 200 models depicting both fleets and the Japanese Navy in WW2.

For a museum ship rebuilt 60 years ago, she’s in pretty good shape. She had her superstructure and armaments removed after WW2, but put back in 1961. The gun deck 3” guns are all replica and can be moved. The bridges were nicely restored and preserved. Below decks, only one deck is open and all the spaces have their original equipment stripped, replaced by generic replica guns, video players, and a display of war artifacts.
In general, she’s worth a visit if you’re a fan of naval history.

Reasonably well explained exhibits and nice views from superstructure. Lower 2-3 decks not open so interior is mostly of officers areas only.

I was positively surprised by the Mikasa battleship. There was so much to see, and it took us around 3 hours to explore the entire ship. The VR experience and the battle simulator game were definite highlights for me. It's a great historical attraction!

Beautiful museum of the Mikasa and the Admiral Togo. Staff members are so lovely and informative and can speak extremely good English (if that's a concern). There's a VR experience you can do that simulates what it was like at the battle of Tsushima on the Mikasa, it is in Japanese but we felt like it didn't matter.
The Yokosuka Museum of Art is a stunning glass-clad museum offering breathtaking views of Tokyo Bay. It showcases a collection of modern and contemporary paintings and sculptures. Despite being less accessible, the museum attracts a crowd due to its intriguing artistic and architectural designs set against the backdrop of sea views. I stopped by on my way back to Shinagawa using the Miura Peninsula 2-day ticket. The ticket can be used at all stations south of Kanazawa Bunko on the Keikyu Line and on designated Keikyu Bus routes in the Miura Peninsula area, so I visited by train and bus.
Although there were no special exhibitions (¥300 per person with JAF discount), since it was my first visit, I was able to enjoy just the permanent exhibits. Also, it was really nice to be able to check the explanation of the works in text using an app called Pocket Curator (I don't carry earphones with me, so the audio type is always a problem). Plus, I thought the amazing view of the ocean alone would be worth the visit.

And down the spiral staricase to see the wonderful interior, and admire all the little viewing portals cut into the building. Truly a wonderful feeling to walk around here and enjoy the space, and the work on display. I LOVED the Taniuch Pavilion, very unexptected to walk through the gallery and discover yet another small galley inside a small exterior room :))

But, they didn't have much explanation in English. That was one thing negative.

Highlight of my visit to Yokosuka. Probably one of the few places in Yokosuka that have such an open and direct view of the ships docked at the port and also open to the public.

Update: Includes pictures from the Norimono festival on 6/9/18 - 6/10/18.
The best thing about Verney Park is that it is a beautiful waterside park that is well maintained and kept clean.
Verney Park is located near Yokosuka station (JR line) along the waterfront. It is within walking distance (4 minutes) from Shiori station (Keikyu line).
The biggest perk of Verney Park is that it offers a beautiful view of the Japanese naval base along with a view of the American naval base. This is a big deal for all the people who love naval ships. Aeon (formally Daiei Mall ) which is right next to Verney Park, has a shop where you can buy tickets to take a boat tour of both the Japanese and American naval bases.
Verney Park is host to various events throughout the year. May brings the Rose Festival. June and maybe August brings the Norimono Festival (festival in which kids can ride different vehicles) along with open day for the Japanese naval base. December 31 brings the food festival before the New Year fireworks.

I feel like it's a not so common travel destination so it wasn't too crowded - I was able to take a nice walk around the island, taking my time taking pictures and enjoying the sights!

An uninhabited island with bases established as gatekeepers of Tokyo Bay from the Meiji to Showa eras. A 10-minute cruise from Yokosuka takes U to one of the closest resorts to the city center. It's nice to relax while looking at the beach, but we recommend a guided tour for 600 yen. A guide with the humor of a comedian will explain the island. While laughing, U will be able to hear interesting stories about the installation of old and new cannons, as well as considering the times from the way the bricks were laid.

I recommend you to take the train from the entrance and exit at the last drop off point on the other side of the hill and walk back to the entrance to enjoy and absorb all the pleasure you'll see along the way back. It was a clear blue sky when we visited this place and the view along the way was unbelieveable.

Gorgeous place. I was just out riding my bike and happened across this place and decided to take a walk around and I sure am glad I did. I wasn't prepared for the extensive walking up long slopes but luckily I had my walking shoes on. The flowers in the front part of the park looked like they had passed their full bloom point at the time of the season I entered but after walking farther I was able to see great round flowers and herb gardens and the large Godzilla and once you reached the top there is a great view of the whole place. Also the slides were fun but I realized after I walked back that I should have purchased a slide seat instead of just sitting straight on it. It was a wonderful experience albeit I was very tired afterwards
Hashirimizu Shrine in Yokosuka is a serene Shinto shrine with steep steps and stunning sea views. It's dedicated to Yamato Takeru no Mikoto and Ototachibana Hime no Mikoto, offering good luck in love. According to legend, the prince's wife saved him from the sea by sacrificing herself. Visitors often come on New Year's Day as part of tradition, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere without large crowds.

In my case, I work as a cook, so I carefully visited the kitchen knife mound. Knives are something you use every day.
Cooking is something that gives us life. These heart-warming words are engraved on the back of the stone monument at the knife mound.
Before entering the shrine, there is also Suikinkutsu on the right side facing the road.
It's also a power spot, and I think it's a shrine with a lot to see.

Visited the shrine on New Years Day as it is tradition and it was not to crowded. The parking lot was closed, so parking at either the park or museum is an option with a 10-15 min walk. They had tents set up selling new years decorations as well and I bought a decorative fan/paddle to swat away the evil spirits.

It was cold even though it was April.
It looks like you can go further up from the left side of the main shrine where you will be visiting, but the sea breeze was too cold so I gave up.

Very accessible parking. After washing our hands and ascending the stairs we paid our respects to the main shrine. There is actually a quiet narrow dirt trail that goes up and behind the shrine with a few other interesting stops. We took it down to the Buddhist temple next door (maybe 800m total).

2023.12 Hashirimizu Shrine
This shrine is located at the tip of the Miura Peninsula in Kanagawa Prefecture.
There is a legend about Japan Takeru and his younger brother Tachibana Hime no Mikoto.
A long time ago, when the words "power spot" and "spiritual" started to become popular, a famous psychic was talking about this Hashirimizu Shrine, and I've always wanted to go there.
I'm a resident of Kanagawa Prefecture, but I don't often go to Miura, so I'm glad I finally came here.
The parking lot can accommodate more than 20 cars.
However, please be careful as the road from the road to the parking lot is quite narrow.
Although it is a small shrine, the steep stairs leading from the shrine office to the main hall are said to represent the thoughts of his younger brother Tachibana Hime no Mikoto.
When you reach the front of the shrine and look back, what a wonderful view it is!
I'm really glad I came.

Although it is not very large, it is a historical and venerable shrine. It began with Nippon Take no Mikoto placing his crown in a stone chest, and it is said that Heihachiro Togo also attended when he dedicated a monument with a poem written by his younger brother Tachibana Hime no Mikoto. For some reason, Russian military mines were on display, perhaps because they were related to the military activities of Heihachiro Togo and others. You have to climb some very steep stairs to reach the Hashiruisha building. The old Inari Shrine building is located higher up the mountain, so it's recommended because it has a great view.
Tateishi Park is a picturesque park featuring a small beach and cove, as well as tree-topped rocky outcrops in the sea. It offers stunning views of the coastline, with Mt. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks along the shore and explore tidal pools to observe sea creatures.

Very popular park for photographers & locals to visit during sunset. They have a huge free parking lot however it is usually filled up especially if going to catch a glimpse of Fujisan at sunset. I would recommend going 2 hours before sunset to be able to score a free parking space, if not a lot across the street from LuvIt has plenty of spots but the fee is ¥900 but might be worth it to avoid the hassle of finding a place to park which is extremely limited and places do monitor - especially if you park somewhere that is not allowed 🚫.

It is also a cozy and easily accessible spot where tourists can stop by and enjoy the unique atmosphere.
🎊 Happy New Year, everyone! 🎊
I had an amazing start to the year with a visit to Kano Shrine in my new hometown of Uraga. What a fantastic way to kick off 2024! The community energy here is truly wonderful, and I've felt so welcomed since moving to this beautiful city.
Kano Shrine is a gem of Japanese tradition nestled in our local area. While it may not be the largest shrine, its beauty and sacred atmosphere are truly captivating. The significance of this shrine is truly special – it's a place where you can make your wishes and see them come true. Who wouldn't want to start the year by asking for their heart's desires?
The atmosphere at the shrine is incredibly cozy, making it a perfect place to stop by and take a moment for yourself. Whether you're a local resident or just passing through, it's easily accessible and definitely worth a visit.
One unique feature of Kano Shrine is that it has a sister shrine located on the opposite side of the bay. How cool is that? This opens up the opportunity to explore both and even grab pair souvenirs to commemorate your visit. It's a wonderful way to experience the interconnectedness of these sacred places and make the most of your visit.
So, if you're looking for a meaningful start to the year, why not head to Kano Shrine and make your wishes? I can't recommend it enough! Here's to a fantastic 2024 filled with blessings and fulfilled dreams. Cheers to new beginnings! 🎉 #KanoShrine #Uraga #NewYearBlessings

Nice daytrip from Tokyo. We were lucky with the weather and had great views of Mt Fuji and a good time on the beach. We would love to try camping there some time. Take their warnings about the birds seriously and eat under cover if you can!

Loads of fun and especially so for families with young kids. Parking is convenient but felt expensive for being at a place that is so far off the main path. Two of the highlights are the main Zipline and the kiddie Zipline. The main Zipline costs per trip while kiddie Zipline is free. The kiddie Zipline is one of the best Zipline setups that I've seen for kids at any park in Japan. There is a mound covered by a rubberized substance that kids can easily climb while holding the rope. This mound allows them to easily jump on the rope and their feet are well off the ground for the trip. The rope is attached to a track above in a manner that is similar to a hanging rollercoaster. The course is an oval shape so the rope comes back to the start for each new rider. The park suffers from a lack of shade so hot days are very hot. Sekiguchi farm has an ice cream stand on the back side of the main entrance. I recommend getting the ice cream in a cup for young eaters on hot days since they are likely to have their ice cream fall to the ground. Another highlight is being able to pick some vegetables. The vegetable picking is a guided tour and you can keep what you pick but are limited to how much you can pick. Of course, if you just want the vegetables, they are cheaper in the store at the entrance. The picking tours require you to buy tickets in advance but you only need one ticket for a whole family to join the fun. Tours are only at certain times and only 2 or 3 tours per day. Tours are stopped when there is nothing to pick.

I think we were the only gaijin in the place. There is nothing like this in the States. As you come in, you can pay to cut wildflowers. Then you pitch your tent on some open grass. On thing you notice is that there is virtually no litter on the ground. None. If this were in America, there would be a mess. Lines were long on a May Sunday afternoon, but our 8- and 10-year olds had a blast, especially on the grass hill sledding. Admission is free, but you get nickled and dimed on the individual attractions. Pack a lunch (food is a little dear). Bring lots of yen!
Yokosuka Iris Garden is a picturesque botanical garden that boasts of well-maintained walking trails, a sizable pond, and seasonal wisterias. During the month of June, visitors can relish in the sight of blooming Iris and Hydrangeas while earlier seasons offer views of gorgeous wisteria. Cape Arasaki (荒崎 lit. Ara Cape) is located in a fishing and farming village called Nagai, which falls under the city of Yokosuka in Kanagawa Prefecture.
Cape Arasaki sits the the lower 1/3 of the Miura Peninsula on the west coast facing Sagami Bay. This location in particular is perfect for catching a beautiful seascape with Mt. Fuji rising high above in the west if you are lucky enough to have a day of clear weather and zero haze on the water's horizon.
The cape consists of several attractions both on the coastline and further inland but nearby:

→ Seaside Hiking Trail: This is less of a hiking trail and more of a walking trail. Parts of the trail use concrete bridges and railings. Other parts, however, require that you crawl over slipper sandstone. Would recommend good fitting shoes or boots. Probably best if you avoid loose sandals or flip flops to avoid slipping and causing injury to yourself.
→ Picnic grounds: There are a few picnic tables spread out over a grassy area under some trees. There is enough space where you can throw down a picnic blanket if the tables are already taken.
→ Parking: I arrived on a weekday so the parking was free. There is a flat fee of 1,000 yen for the whole day (8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.) if you arrive early enough to beat the crowds. I arrived at 5:30 a.m. and already there were people lining up in their cars.
→ Public transportation: The park is still accessible by train and bus if you want to avoid dealing with traffic.

It is said that before the Meiji period, it was a Shingon sect temple called Eishinji. It is said that since Uraga Village was divided into two villages, east and west, a separate shrine was built on the Higashi Uraga Village side.
The mountain behind is called Mt. Myojin and is the ruins of Uraga Castle. It is also famous that Kaishu Katsu practiced fasting before boarding the Kanrin Maru.
Currently, it is popular because it is said that if you receive a magatama amulet from Nishikano Shrine and place it in a charm bag from Higashikano Shrine, your love will come true.

Good stadium equipment ・ It must seem that the box office to increase the fans of the baseball team is worsening.
I also felt that the basic "again visit" stance (feeling) was completely lost.
It's a good story if I don't go in the future, so I won't go anymore, but if I feel uncomfortable among those who come, ask for the full name of the guard (you don't have to give this name) and the security company. It is a statement from an acquaintance that it is better to contact the DeNA team and get an answer.

In the past, it was often held in Hiratsuka, but in recent years it has become the main event held here.
The admission fee is a flat rate of 1,200 yen for adults, and seating is limited to unreserved seats, so you can enjoy baseball from various angles while moving around during the game.
Please note that admission fees can only be paid in cash on-site.
I think it is strange that the parent company is an IT company but does not support cashless payments.
(PayPay can be used at the attached shop)
The viewing environment can be said to be good for a second-team stadium, but the seats are hard so your butt hurts midway through the game, and the rough seams in the wire mesh make it a little hard to see if you're in the front seats.
Also, I was a little annoyed that the staff asked us to leave as soon as the game ended.

Watch the game at DeNA Farm without losing to the heat of this summer.
Watching from behind the back net. The proximity of the stand to the ground doubles the visual and auditory enjoyment. However, if you are in the front row seats in the infield on the 1st and 3rd base side, the wire diameter of the mesh fence is a little worrisome. (I think there are individual differences)
There is no shop inside the stadium for Susta, so we will use the shop outside the stadium (although re-entry is a bit troublesome...)
Shops with reasonable prices are waiting for you.
At the shop, the usual choice is the side dish bread from Kitahara Bread. @210 x 2
Today, I made croquette and fillet cutlet. Sweet sauce on fluffy buns. It also goes well with fried foods. Eating side dish bread, washing down the sweetness of the mouth with beer, and forgetting the heat is a blissful time. An old man that can't be tasted by minors! \(^o^)/
Draft beer is one coin @ 500, and it is a service that is poured in parallel. It's usually difficult to walk around with a beer in one hand, so let's have a few drinks before returning to our seats.
Just like Atsuno Natsu, the hotly contested game ends with a home run by Rakuten☆Koi after extra time. I often go to Susta, but I haven't been able to see DeNA's winning match. (T_T)

Umikaze Park is a delightful seafront park that features a beautiful promenade, grassy picnic spots, and a host of recreational activities. Visitors can enjoy the skatepark, cycling tracks and basketball hoops at no cost. In addition to its kid-friendly atmosphere with two public toilets available for use, the park also boasts an ample ground for barbecue gatherings. However, it's advisable to arrive early when visiting in groups due to weekend crowds.
We decided to celebrate the Halloween out at the park . Finally we found UMIKAZE . Umi means sea and Kaze means wind. Thought must be cold but it was not as we were there in October 30th.
We had two tents , Halloween stuffs and lot of food and sweets. Forgot to take the water. But we found a very convenient park with the provision of several toilets , tap waters also the sinks to wash the dishes. We came to know that it’s okay to organize bbq there. Very close there are many best places like home center , big mall , the beautiful sea and Astonishingly skate park , bicycle park and tennis court too.
Parking fee is 640¥ per day. Ample parking lot . Ambiance is attractive as well, so I could see many people with cameras.
Recommend to have a day fun. Choose the sunny day and get some Vitamin D.
We got a nice place beside the old preserved long White House structure , very close to the parking lot where we parked our cars.
We decorated the surrounding a bit and had delicious food ( home made) . After that we did some games and let our kids go around for trick or treating . Anyway soon after they reached the park , they started going around and play fully.
Kids love running around.
Outing is the best for kids and the families.

I visited Dobuita Street in Yokosuka, Japan after originally discovering the street in the game Shenmue. Although it's changed over the years it offers a unique and somewhat surreal experience with its Americanized atmosphere.
I visited during the week around 6pm in March, and although it was fairly quiet, some bars were still open. For a livelier atmosphere, I would recommend going on the weekend.
It's got an American vibe with an abundance of English and sometimes poorly translated signs added to the charm. Walking to the soundtrack of "Get Low" blaring from a nearby bar, it was filled with english speaking people.
The food and drink options along Dobuita Street leaned heavily toward American cuisine, offering a wide range of familiar dishes and beverages. It was a bit surreal to encounter such an Americanized place in the heart of Japan.

This is the deepest American street in Japan. In some cases it is deeper than the streets of Okinawa. However, the scale is small.
"Dobu-Ita" means a wooden lid that blocks sewage. There are various theories, but as far as old photos are concerned, it is a nickname named after the sewage lid in front of the store that was common in Japanese old shopping streets. It may mean that it was like a secular downtown. Where there used to be sewage is now color-coded with tiles on the street.
There are many pubs for Native Americans. It is different from that of Japan. Of course, American burgers are popular. And many stores selling US military used equipment.

✅️ Clean and tidy
✅️ Good opp for some cute pics
✅️ Small shops and restaurants that open late in the afternoon / early evening
✅️ Near the naval base and a shopping centre
❌️ Spooky and quiet - really isn't much to do here at all
❌️ Lots of abandoned shops - possibly the long shadow of the covid pandemic
❌️ Some areas off limits to US military folk
❌️ Seems residential, so don't be loud!
❌️ Steep hills, so wear good trainers and pack light - there is a hotel nearby if you're stopping over, but it's not 5 star

Good place to go and walk around while also grabbing a bite. I strongly recommend going during the day and seeing all the open places they have to offer. Lots of military themed shops that offer, well, as you can guess, military themed souvenirs. A few good restaurants here and there sprinkled throughout and around the area. Not too far from some other big shopping centers and not too far from the main road in the area. Definitely a place to go out with friends and family during the day or just going out with friends at night. Lots of sailors from the navy base nearby also come out here, but they usually aren't up to shenanigans and making too much trouble for tourists and visitors. Overall, not a bad spot to walk around and enjoy good food during the day. Plan it out just right and you can see and do quite a bit.
