The Saga Castle History Museum is a well-presented attraction that features a reconstructed main keep of the original castle built in 1838. As one of Japan's largest wooden reconstructions, it showcases maps, models, and hands-on exhibits from the last years of the Edo Period. The museum provides access to historic exhibitions about local history, nature, key figures and life depicting among others.
It's sad that saga castle did not survive the passing of time, the years of neglect, and the numerous fire incidents that eventually brought it down. This museum however encapsulate a great deal of the history surrounding the castle and the region of Saga. A lot of valuable national treasures are enclosed here and valuable history on the first vaccination in Japan, innovations in railway, and the first most advanced school on western education in Japan. The heritage of the Naomasa clan lives on and I am in awe of the history of this place which largely goes unnoticed by most Japanese folks today. Also, a particularly interesting activity to partake in is the digital photography in fictional outfits of the Edo era, the outfits are selected randomly and I was lucky to get the Samurai outfit ^_^

Visited in January 2020. Reconstruction of the main keep of Saga Castle built in 1838, during the last years of the Edo Period. It is one of the largest wooden reconstructions in Japan. There are historic exhibitions in the museum and it is open to public. Need to remove shoe in locker before entering. Main entrance is located near Naomasa Statue / NHK building

Saga Shrine is a stunning and well-preserved Shinto sanctuary situated in the center of Saga city. It features a spacious wooden gateway, adorned with vibrant red lanterns, along with an antique cannon. The shrine boasts multiple sub-sanctuaries where visitors can offer prayers for their children's wellbeing and other needs. Additionally, it provides an entertaining experience by allowing visitors to purchase koi food and toss it around for fun.
Beautiful and well maintained shrine in the heart of Saga city. It has various sub shrines you can visit to pray for your children’s health etc.

The former Koga Bank has a total floor area of 663㎡, and exhibits are in two rooms and a hallway on the west end of the first floor and on the second floor. It probably won't take that long to visit.
In addition to the bank's original materials, the exhibit also includes Arita ware, Hizen Vidro, and life guidance inspired by Hagakure? I wonder if there's anyone who can actually do this...
When I visited, there was a concert going on. In addition, depending on the special exhibition, you may not be able to take photos, so if you like buildings, it's a good idea to check.

I had no choice but to take a tour of the museum, but it was surprisingly fun! ️
It's like a social gathering place for upper class aristocrats. It has a modern and stylish atmosphere that rivals the exterior. What's more, the rest area has a chic and modern feel, just like John Bull's study. The sofa is also fluffy. The atmosphere of the building is nice and you can feel the colors of the era. A couple of interesting exhibits, including a hot air balloon simulator. Not a great deal of information if you don't speak Japanese, but most things are self-explanatory. Honestly, I went there just for the pokemon, but I had more fun than I expected! ️First of all, group discount will be applied with JAF discount. 330 yen is quite large at 220 yen. And the facility is clean. As soon as I entered the room, I was fascinated by the teachings of Mr. Okuma's mother. I am drawn into his worldview and think that he was saying something precious from such an era. He was a pretty amazing person, having been involved in the development of Japan's first railway. I always get confused with Toshimichi Okubo, but from today on I won't be confused anymore. That's how much I've been able to see his way of life etched into my heart from this memorial museum.
I was a little excited because I couldn't see the second floor of the detached birthplace, which required a declaration to visit, so it looked like a ninja mansion. You can't see it at first glance, but if you open the sliding door in the front room, you'll find a staircase. The stairs are very steep, so be careful of your step. The weather was nice that day, and the white walls were especially beautiful. Return to the museum and have a cup of coffee at the cafe space. For some reason, Kenshin is aligned with Karuro. Did Shigenobu Okuma appear in Ruroken? While thinking this, I watched a video of Toshimichi Okubo's history on the monitor in front of me. This building itself has an avant-garde atmosphere from the Showa era, which is irresistible to me, who loves nostalgic buildings. The design is nostalgic and tickles me ☺️
If you like the end of the Edo period, I think you'll enjoy it. Waseda pressure was also strong, but I didn't really understand that so I ignored it❗️It was really fun and I didn't expect it❗️

We mainly took a walk around the old house and the garden.
I thought the pine trees were carefully pruned and beautiful.
The old house (birthplace) caught my eye because of the hybrid tiled and thatched roof, and the contrast between the black boards and white walls.
When sketching, the screen becomes unsettling if you just paint in black and white, so it seems that many people are struggling with how to come up with the best way to do so.
If you look closely at the building materials, you will see that it is a house with a commoner feel that emphasizes cost performance.
It can be assumed that in the 19th century, many buildings like this were built in the city of Saga.
I think it is a blessing that we can still see the soil in which his character was nurtured - the reality and spirit of life in the castle town of the Saga Domain.
The architecture of the memorial hall has an interesting design, and it seems to have a library space and museum-like exhibits. ...I will visit this place another time.

My favorite soba lover is "Itasoba"! There are 2 to 3 servings in average and 3 to 4 servings in large servings, so I think it's best to ask someone who can share it.
It's a popular shop, so it's often lined up, but because there are many staff, the turnover is fast and waiting is not a pain. While you're waiting, the stream next to the shop is beautiful, so it's soothing to see the fish swimming, and in the fall, the maple trees on the road side show beautiful colors.
I was a little far from the corona, but during that time it was refurbished! I feel that there were many tatami mat seats before, but I felt that people with inconveniences in their legs could use it with confidence because there were only table seats. (There is also a wheelchair slope at the entrance, which is barrier-free)
Besides the soba noodles, the side menus such as tempura and omelet rolls are also delicious (according to his wife).
Kaesi (soba soup) is unique to Kyushu, and it feels a little sweet. However, you can even enjoy the soba hot water of 〆!
Perhaps because the water is clean, the noodles are tight and the soba noodles are chewy.

It is a popular spot where you can enjoy nature in Mise Village, Saga Prefecture, about an hour's drive from Fukuoka City. There are many famous soba restaurants that make use of high-quality natural water, and it is also called "Soba Kaido". I remembered that my mother-in-law used to go to eat there with my late father-in-law, so I went with my second daughter. Speaking of the originator of Mise no soba, it is definitely Mise soba. I ordered "Itasoba" with soba noodles for 2 or 3 people. I thought it was a little too much, so I ordered the dashimaki egg and tempura platter and shared it with everyone. I don't often share soba noodles, but the thick soba noodles with a slightly sweet sauce go into the body with a little sweet soup. My mother-in-law, who had lost a lot of food after her graduation, seemed to be enjoying herself without stopping using chopsticks. I am very grateful that the taste of memories continues in the same place. Thank you for the meal 😀

(Translated by Google) I wonder if it's normal for meals (soba), the atmosphere of the store, and the customer service.
I ordered warm soba, but I personally felt that the dashi was a little thin.
The large shrimp tempura soba was delicious with large shrimp.
Seiro (cold soba) felt hard, probably because it was boiled for a short time.
I felt the texture was a little hard when I took a bite, probably because they were trying to serve it quickly. (because it gets soggy)
When heading to Mise Pass, the first thing you see is the soba signboard. There is Daihachi soba and a shop next door, but I have never been there.
The parking lot is often full every time I pass by.
The exterior appeared to be well maintained.
There are several other restaurants in Mise that serve soba noodles, so I think it depends on what you value.
Personally, I think this shop is the speed of the offer time and the turnover rate.

This is my first time at Cosmos Garden.
I was fascinated by the cosmos superb view photo on the cover of the Kyushu-only 📖 tourism magazine "Jalan" ...
I checked the flowering information on the facebook of the Saga Airport Flower Garden Support Association, which is managed 🛫, and went out with the expectation that it would bloom for about five minutes today.
When I went there, I personally felt that the most blooming place was "five minutes blooming-the best time to see it?"
In the time zone before noon on weekdays
The visitors were sloppy, and the parking lot was a lot vacant.
Even though it's autumn, the temperature in Kyushu is midsummer.
The cosmos shook in the wind and looked comfortable, but it was too hot for humans to watch and take pictures, so I took a picture in a short time and left early to cool down at Saga Airport. 😊
* It seems impossible to take a collaborative photo of an airplane and Cosmos because there are few departures and arrivals.
Also, today the sound was hazy and I couldn't see the plane from the Cosmos Garden. disappointing!!
October 19, 2021
Added behind-the-scenes story on the 13th
Based on the information and word-of-mouth that "you can take a collaborative photo of an airplane and a cosmos field," I thought that the cosmos field was right near the airport and used the park parking lot.
I started walking toward the cosmos field to walk nearby, but I couldn't find it (I was looking at the walking map 😅)
On that day, I got sweaty before arriving on a midsummer day, so I returned to the parking lot of the park and went back to the navigation + aviation map.
It takes more than 20 minutes to walk from the airport to the cosmos field in 2 to 3 minutes.
If you are coming for the first time like me, please be careful not to make a mistake as soon as possible!
When I confirmed the location of the cosmos field from the observatory at the airport, it was far away.
By the way, it seems that "now is the best time to see 🌼".

Also, from the parking lot there is a gutter-like ditch, and there are pallets used as scaffolding in several places.
The timing was perfect, and although some of the flowers had withered, they were almost in full bloom.
Probably because it was a marche, there were a lot of people watching, and there were people walking from the front who were walking on the sidewalk.
The road itself has no sidewalks, and is only wide enough for two regular cars and one person, so I recommend giving priority to pedestrians and walking slowly.

Former Residence of Koga is a stunning traditional Japanese house that belonged to the Koga family, founders of Koga bank. The spacious tatami mat floors and beautiful garden make it a unique experience. Visitors are required to remove their shoes upon entering and can explore the clean interior, which exudes the scent of tatami. Despite being a former bank manager's residence, entry is free and attracts few tourists, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the ambiance of the era.
Beautiful Japanese house. This is a house of Koga family, a founder of Koga bank. I’ve never seen this big old house before because Japanese house is usually small. Wide tatami mat floor made me feel want to live here. Their garden is humble. It’s free.

It opened in 2003 (Phase 1) as the first shopping mall <<Mallage>> operated by Sojitz Commercial Development.
The core of the mall is "Foodway" and "MrMax".
[See Wikipedia]
However, in the past, this area used to be rice fields.
(Well, everywhere in Saga is "rice fields"...)
(Because one of Saga's prides is the Saga plains~~)
Until <<Mallage Saga>> opened, the only shopping mall that came to mind was <<AEON MALL Saga Yamato>> (opened in 2000).
It was a little far from Saga city.
It's a place where you can't go shopping without a car.
At that time, shopping at a shopping mall was a dream story for my family who didn't have a car.
(However, AEON's development policy was to locate in the ‹suburb› area, where the main focus was on attracting customers by car.)
(Considering the route from the Saga Yamato Interchange, it must be natural that it will be in that place.)
So, I was a little surprised to hear that a shopping mall could be built in a place where you can go on foot or by bicycle.
There are also "109 Cinemas" and "Saizeriya", and I am grateful to be in the way.
However, since "Miyawaki Bookstore", which has been in business for many years, has been withdrawn, there is no "bookstore" in the mall.
Somehow I feel lonely.

A shopping mall that opened in 2003. The mall is about 20 years old, so it can't be denied that it's old. Since youme Town Saga was built, the ability to attract customers has gradually declined. It contains Mr. Max and Foodway, making it very convenient for everyday shopping. It also has a movie theater. There are about 10 restaurants. There is also a small food court. (Translated by Google) It is pronounced ``Yoka'' Shrine and can also be written as Yoga Shrine.
This is an old shrine founded in the mid-6th century, and the main deity enshrined is Yodohimenomikoto.
Previously, when I visited Hizen Ichinomiya Yodome Shrine, I learned about the main enshrined deity Yodome. At Yodome Shrine, she is said to be the younger sister of Empress Jingu (mother of the 15th Emperor Ojin), but at Yoga Shrine, she is said to be the same as Toyotama Hime (grandmother of the first Emperor Jinmu?). If so, it would be out of sync with the times. Since it is a mythical story from the time when the age of gods passed into the age of humans, there may be a discrepancy between what is written in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki and the legends that remain at the shrine.
I think the number one highlight is the stone bridge and red-colored tower gate seen from the Hizen Torii (San-no-Torii) in front of the approach. All three have been designated as national important cultural properties. What is interesting is the guardian turtle and guardian horse that are not guardian dogs but are enshrined in front of the shrine. saw it for the first time. The tree is also over 1,400 years old! I think the large camphor tree is also worth seeing.
The priest (only one?) seems to be absent at times, but if you come, you can have your goshuin stamped.

In the Kamakura period, Yoshitoki Hojo rebuilt the main shrine in 1212 at Yogasho Chinjugu Shrine, and in 1245, it is said that the regent Tsunetoki Hojo established the ritual ceremony by imperial edict. In the Muromachi period, Lord Dazai Shoni Masasuke built Yoga Castle and worked to revive the shrine as the guardian deity of the demon gate.

Why the double naming?
First of all, who is [Tsunemin Sano]?
What kind of person would you say? I think there are many people out there who say...
However, if you are searching for ``Tsunetami Sano and the Mietsu Naval Dock Site History Museum,'' I think this is different.
[Tsunemin Sano] is the person who founded Hakuaisha, which became the foundation of the Japanese Red Cross Society.
After the end of the Edo period, during the Seinan War, which divided Japan.
It is said that both the government army and the Satsuma army played an active role in saving lives.
He was a person who was truly active in the spirit of philanthropy.
Each branch of the Japanese Red Cross must have a bronze statue of the old man Tsunetami Sano erected.
His birthplace was right in front of the Saka Domain's Mietsu Naval Dock, which has become a World Heritage Site...
Indeed, there is a monument commemorating the birthplace of Tsunetami Sano on the grounds of a nearby temple.
Although the exhibition contents are compact, I think it is enough to explain this place.

This is a stop during a tour around Kyushu.
There is Sano Tsunetami in Saga Domain💯
He's a wonderful person.
The admission fee of 500 yen is too cheap.
This is a must-visit facility when traveling to Saga.

(Translated by Google) This is a history museum where you can learn about the great achievements of the Saga domain, which was a technologically advanced domain at the end of the Edo period. I never thought there were people who continued to take on challenges like this in that era! It is also a memorial hall honoring Tsunetami Sano, the founder of the Japan Red Cross. I thought it was a JRCS commercial booth, but somehow I found myself completely immersed in the history of the Meiji era. Anyway, there's no harm in going to see it once!

(Translated by Google) You can learn about the history of Japan's modernization from the end of the Edo period.
Takamori Saigo, Ryoma Sakamoto, and Kaishu Katsu are all mentioned, but it is impossible to talk about Japan's modernization without looking at them.
Nabeshima Naomasa and Sano Tsunetami, these two have far more important roles than Saigo Takamori, Sakamoto Ryoma, and Katsu Kaishu.
If you want to know the true history of Japan's modernization, I definitely recommend visiting here, the Saga Castle Honmaru History Museum, and the Meiji Restoration Expo Memorial Exhibit at the Saga Prefectural Museum!
If they saw Japan today, they would no doubt be saddened by the fact that they had risked their lives to make Japan like this.

(Translated by Google) 40 years ago, when I was in elementary school, my homeroom teacher taught me Tsunetami Sano. Founding of Hakuaisha, the predecessor of the Japanese Red Cross Society. It is understandable that he was interested in a career in welfare, having originally studied medicine. It was interesting to visit this memorial museum and see his other activities displayed in an easy-to-understand manner. There seems to be a VR service for the ruins of the Navy Yard, but I didn't have time this time and left. If the Saga Domain had not been dismantled, might there still be a naval station in this area? I also felt a little lonely. . What I thought when I came this time was that there is a superman like this in my hometown of Saga. The Shigenobu Okuma Memorial Museum is also located in Saga City, and as a citizen of Saga Prefecture, I would be happy if you could see both of them (^○^)

(Translated by Google) It has become a World Heritage Site, and the Sano Tsunetami Memorial Hall has been renovated. Although it was only for a few years at the end of the Edo period, the presence of Japanese naval and shipbuilding facilities here, and the foresight and diligence of the Saga clan were confirmed once again through newly introduced videos and exhibits of the remains. Using the app will make your image even bigger. When you step out of the facility and walk around the area, you can feel the prosperity of the past.
The facility does not have a restaurant or souvenir corner.
There is space for small children to play outside, but this is a must-see spot for those interested in history. It would be a good idea to visit in conjunction with the Chikugo River Lift Bridge and Higashiyoka Higata Visitor Center Higasasu.
