The National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan, established in 2014, is a contemporary institution showcasing exhibits on the culture and history of Kazakhstan. The museum's vast interior, constructed with blue glass and white marble, contains interactive displays and exhibitions featuring artifacts from ancient times to modern-day Astana. Notable themed halls include Ethnography and Astana Hall.
Super well organized museum. Very big, with a lot of items. Everything very beautiful. They offer for free a place to leave your jacket and also backpack. The restrooms are very clean.

A fantastic museum, presenting the history of a great nation, from prehistoric to recent times. The ticket is less than 1.5€, and an extra of around 2€ for the Golden Hall. A must visit when in Kazakhstan! There's also a small cafe, and a small restaurant inside.

The museum is huge, but the flow is weird. You keep jumping back and forth in time in each room, no logical reason for that. Also, explanations are very poor and easy to miss. Thanks god there's chatGPT to assist your visit.

Beautiful museum, nice collection of Kazakhstan in the middle ages. Lovely photography of Kazakhstan in the 20th centuries. Do visit the gold room, could easily spend a day only there. Give it at least 3 hours to go through every collection.

Most of the exhibits were in English which was nice since it's the only language I speak. It was a very nice museum that had many things ranging from history of Kazakhstan and even a modern art area. I spent 4 hours here with my girlfriend but I could of easily spent more here. It would of been nice to have a guided tour but other than that it was a very nice museum

I was quite impressed by the museum exhibits. There are many interesting things to see from dinosaurs to the limited edition modern coins. The art gallery on the top floor has a nice collection of paintings by Kazakh artists.
In addition, the museum has a great app that contains information about some of the exhibits with text or audio guides.
There is no mobile network reception inside the museum, but there is an open wife available so you can use the app to enhance the visit to the museum, although the museum wi-fi was quite slow ((
In addition, prepare to walk a lot cause you have 3 levels to explore, and I wish they have more chairs to rest while walking around the exhibits
But overall I highly recommend visiting this place, especially in the morning

Grand museum with a lot of information and exhibits - well thought out, not just text upon text.
Also a lot of attentive staff.
We did not visit the golden chamber but we were short on time and our local friend said it's probably not worthy in our case.
The Samruk and it's egg in the foyer is stunning, and if you come at the right time it will also flap it's wings.
We came in October, and it was quite empty

Museum is deceptively larger than you realize.
The individual exhibit halls aren't huge but there are a lot of them.
The signage on each hall explains very well what you will find inside however there isn't a good path marked between each exhibit so sometimes you aren't sure where to go next or in what order to do the individual halls.
I'm sure I missed a hall or two just by taking a "wrong turn." Also some escalators or halls were closed without an explanation or signs about where to go next. Occasionally you'll see museum staff that you can ask.
Overall very nice museum. Lots of history of the region with historical artifacts and restorations. In my opinion the museum can be split into thirds...about 1/3 is the ancient and medieval history of the region (which I personally found most interesting). Another 1/3 is 1970+ art from various artists, sculptures painting and the like. About 1/3 of the museum is about the history of modern (post Soviet) Kazahstan, its first president, creation of its currency, military...and various achievements during that time. If you include everything I would say plan to spend 2 to 2.5 hours there.

The National Museum gives a good overview of the history of Kazakhstan. The exhibition is large, unfortunately some rooms were closed. For a visit you can plan two to three hours. The tickets are cheap. But if you want to go to the gold exhibition, you have to buy a more expensive extra ticket. Checkroom and lockers are free of charge. The team was very friendly, but many could not speak English.

It’s a great big museum, the current expositions are amazing
There’s a hidden gem on the seventh floor that should not be missed.
You may walk in and see the first floor without paying but once you want to go tot be second floor you need a ticket. So make sure you pay.
It’s a very friendly museum. It has braille, audio, any type of aids for disabilities.
Audio guides QR codes, everything.
The souvenir shop is a huge no for me because it’s pricey.

Beautiful museum, very reasonably priced. Free to school kids during the holiday breaks. Definitely a must if you are interested in local history and culture. They have both modern and ancient exhibits that showcase the development of human settlements in the area, and the archeological finds are amazing if you are interested in that sort of thing. We're looking forward to visiting this museum again.

This museum is offer a great details of information of the Kazakhstan history from the past ages. It collected , organized and displayed all the artifacts in orderly manner. It also display well preserved art works and drawing that have important cultural significant. They are some new contemporary art works too. Overall, I will give 10 out 10 points, for the museum. The museum is well designed and the building is accessible for challenging audiences like wheelchair persons and etc. It is also accessible with the public bus in the city . The staffs are very helpful and welcoming. There is a small coffeshop/canteen available at the ground floor for you to refresh yourself after walking and browsing the museum. They provided wonderful and delicious local cuisines ( kashan porridge). All the artifacts are labeled and detail explained in three languages, Kazakh language, Russian language and English language too. A must visit place to everyone who come to the capital city. Suitable for family and individuals. Please take note, that this museum is closed on Monday.
Baiterek, an iconic structure constructed between 1996 and 2002, stands as the centerpiece of Nurzhol bulvar. This monument, rising to a height of 97 meters above street level, takes the form of a trophy-like tower adorned with a large glass orb.
This monument is one of the main attractions of Astana. I love the symbolism of the monument (The Life tree) as it represents the vision of the country and its projection for a bright future. The view at the top of the monument is breathtaking, I went there during the sunset and it was really amazing.

Tower tourist attraction in the centre of the Nur Sultan, which you can ascend to view the city. Small queue to get in but once you're in we spent about 30 minutes in there. There are 3 levels once at the top, with stairs to each. You can have a professional photo taken at the top, including the view. There is a small cafe selling drinks & snacks.
Once you're at the top in the ball, the view out is slightly impared by the yellow hew & the dirtiness of the glass, making it tough to get a good picture.
The tower is situated in a nice park though, so worth a visit & best to walk.
Cost to go up is 1500 Tenge for an adult, 700 for a child.

Upon arrival at noon, on 19.02.24 we booked tickets for 2000 KZT per person. Then we were able to take the elevator up. With a few more stairs, we reached the top of the tower, offering a panoramic view of the city through the glass.
On the floor of the elevator, there was a small café where you can have coffee and sandwich but overpriced. The view from this floor, facing the palace and the direction of the walkway, was better than the view from the top. A visit to the top of the tower is a must-do for tourists.
Downstairs, there is a souvenir shop again extremely overpriced.
Bayterek Tower is a symbolic structure located along Nurzhol Boulevard in Central Astana. The tower is 105 metres high from its base up to its gold-mirrored sphere at the top.
There is a bi-level observation deck within the sphere, the lower level gives an unadulterated view of Astana and the surrounding area. The upper level is reached by a staircase, it contains a gilded hand print of the right hand of Nursultan Nazarbayev where visitors are invited to place a hand in the imprint and make a wish. We visited whilst we were in the city, international tourists were not well received and several tourists including us were waved away from the elevator to the observation desk.

This is the main attraction of Astana. There are certainly drawbacks and places where it is necessary to improve, but in general it does not worsen the impression of visiting this place. The building is beautiful and there is a place to sit fashionably. The ticket price is not chip, but it is comparable to the prices for visiting museums for tourists in any famous city in Europe. In the winter Baiterek seems to me more beautiful. I still do not understand what the legend about the bird is, but people call it funny, Egg of Na))))
Recommendation for visiting from me.
Good day

It is a monument and observation tower in Astana, the capital city of Kazakhstan. A tourist attraction popular with foreign visitors and Kazakhs, it is emblematic of the city, which became capital of the country in 1997. Worth the visit. There was some confusion about the tickets in the beginning, but overall, good experience. As expected, great view from the top. Don’t forget to press the button on the elevator because if you don’t it will take you back to the top without opening the doors. There is a little monument at the top where you place your hand into a recessed print and people take pictures and there’s always quite a long line to see it, but it’s honestly no big deal if you skip it. They have ac working there but it was still a little hot. There is a little cafe at the top, where you can buy water, coffee and milkshakes.

It's an interesting building but not a lot to see. You can buy a ticket to go to the top but it's just a view of the city nothing else. The displays and mini-museum downstairs are free. So there really doesn't seem to be much point to spend the money. Worth having a look and there's a very clean bathroom available for use on the bottom floor.

Baitarek-Tower is one of the tourist highlights of the city. It is located directly in the center. Per adult you pay 2000 tenge to go to the top. The view is beautiful, but very yellowish due to the tinting of the windows. At the top there's a small café and the possibility to put your own hand in the stand-up. One should not plan more than half an hour for the stayThe monument from outside its outstanding.
Inside you have to go thru a metal detector and buy the tickets to go to the third floor which is the highest floor.
Once up there you can see the whole city (or most of it.)
You will be at the sphere literally.
It’s all about the unity of the religions, lots of very interesting thing about this place so download the offline translation for Kazakh and Russian if you want to understand. Though the building has free WiFi.
Everything you find at the souvenir shop you can also find outside 4 blocks away for 90% less of what you buy there.

During a visit to Astana (now Nur-Sultan) in 2008, amidst a time of significant urban transformation, I had the pleasure of exploring the Baiterek Tower. Although the city was still under construction, the tower itself stood out as a beacon of architectural splendour. The panoramic views from the top of Baiterek are truly exceptional, offering a bird's eye perspective of the capital's evolving skyline. The tower not only provides a magnificent view but also symbolises the growth and ambition of Astana. A visit to Baiterek Tower is undoubtedly a highlight for anyone keen on appreciating the dynamism and character of the capital.

The Khan Shatyr Entertainment Center in Astana is an exceptional structure that boasts of being a lifestyle center with top-quality shopping facilities and various attractions. The building stands 150m tall and has a tent-like appearance made of ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE), which absorbs heat and maintains summer temperatures inside even when it's freezing outside. The interior houses a high-end mall, food court, and entertainment options like waterslides, mini-golf, among others.

Males enter from left side of entrance and females right.
Women have to cover most skin obviously and also are supposed to stay on their side (there are barriers) However, we are told by a local that usually tourists are allowed to roam around to appreciate the mosque(not gender restraint of where you can walk)

The Palace of Peace and Reconciliation is a renowned cultural center with a distinctive pyramid-shaped design made of glass and steel. It was inaugurated in 2006 as the venue for the Congress of World and Traditional Religions, held every three years in Kazakhstan. The complex boasts a 1350-seat opera hall, exhibits, and an apex conference room adorned with stained-glass doves created by British artist Brian Clarke.
The Palace of Peace and Reconciliation also translated as the Pyramid of Peace and Accord, is a 62-metre-high (203 ft) pyramid in Nur-Sultan, the capital of Kazakhstan, that serves as a non-denominational national spiritual centre and an event venue. Designed by Foster and Partners, with a stained glass apex and windows by architectural artist Brian Clarke, the Palace was constructed to house the triennial Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, and completed in 2006.
Built by Sembol Construction at a cost of 8.74 billion Kazakh tenge (approx. $58 million), the project was conceived as a permanent venue for the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, which meets triennially in a purpose-built conference chamber at the apex of the pyramid. In 2011 and 2013, the International Astana Action Film Festival was held in the Palace.

Internet conspiracy theories led me here. It turns out to be a pretty interesting art gallery, religious museum, and neutral ground for various religious conferences. My guide was in English and really friendly and informative.
CONS: Entrance experience is very poor. There's 10 identical doors at the front entrance, and all but one of them locked, with no indication of which one. After finally finding the correct door to go inside, was met by a very moody metal detector operator who gestured vaguely over to a small window to buy tour tickets. After buying the tickets, was told to go over to the cafe and wait, without any indication of who I was waiting for.
Entrance experience aside, still a very interesting place from outside and in.

Very unique and slightly bizarre landmark that is geometrically aligned to the presidential residence, the Baiterek tower and Khan Shatyr Mall. Fascinating from the outside as well as the inside. For an inside visit one must go with a tour, usually starting at every full hour, they do offer tours in English but only if there are enough people available. Also possible to book in advance to make sure you get the tor you want :)
The over all architectural construction is futuristic and modern, no surprise here 😄 the exhibition is slightly bizarre, the whole concept is for sure worth a visit, but you may want to make up your own mind about the representation of religions here ;)

It's a place where the 200 fallen angels meet. The book of Enoch states that there are 200 fallen angels that meet at a round table on top of a pyramid and wouldn't you know it this place has a round table at the top of a pyramid with EXACTLY 200 seats!! What are the odds??!! There is also a portal out across the water. Probably where the fallen angels come thru to meet at the top of the pyramid!! It's funny how they sell it as a place of peace and harmony when it's EXACTLY the opposite!! Enjoy your visit to the evil pyramid of the fallen angels!! I didn't and I had to get out of there ASAP!!! Absolutely stunning the Astana opera. We went to 2 concerts and both were great, beautifully performed. I would also recommend to go for the excursion around opera house, this was a great experience.

Beautiful opera house that is well maintained. I went to watch a Swan Lake ballet and the orchestra was fantastic. Tickets are very affordable and I think it is a must visit place in Astana.
If you feel hungry you can enjoy drinks and cute canapés. Coffee was fresh and tasted great.

They should remove the iron the mural, we could watch the show properly. From my seat we can't see the stage if we don't stand up or tilt forward on our seats.

With a recently built opera house, one would expect that the acoustics and sound are better compared to century-old ones you’ll find in Western Europe, for example. This particular opera house definitely fulfills that expectation. The local ballet company was highly technical and the Astana orchestra was superb! I definitely recommend Astana tourists to see a performance here during their stay — especially considering the affordable price for such high quality sound and art. Highly recommended!

Strongly recommended for all tourists to visit this gorgeous house of art with its excellent akustic and performance viewing opportunities.

What an amazing work of artistic opera house design and aesthetics. It took only 3 years to build this opera house, in 2010, in the design of a 19th century Italian theatre. Walking into this modern opera house one would have felt walking into a 300-year-old opera house. Evey corner is filled with architectural details and superb workmanship. I salute the vison of the man who order this building built, the architect and of course the everyday workers who made this possible.

Magnificent building, incorporating classic and Kazakh architecture in the elements of decor. We saw a traditional ballet (La Selfyde) and it was top notch. I heard that Kazakh-themed operas like Abai are also amazing. You can buy tickets online, or, if you prefer, you can come in person to the cashiers in the opera building itself, a few weeks in advance.

Absolutely stunning place. White marble, paintings, chandeliers… Easy to see it was a big investment of the country’s government. The ballet show I saw was a bit boring (I’m not a fan of ballet though, so cannot judge)

Opera House is first class having the glamour of a european Opera theatre where you would not expect it. The cost of the opera productions here is very low. I went to see a Ballet based on snow white and the seven dwarfs which had 28 sets, produced by a Hungarian group with actors from Kazakhstan and local Musicians. The quality was amazing and the cost was about 8 pounds or 5000 Kz tengye.
The Assumption Cathedral is a beautiful and impressive church both from its exterior and interior. Its historical significance as a place of worship makes it an important landmark for people to visit. While the interior may not offer much in terms of activities, those with a keen eye will find plenty to appreciate. It's worth noting that the cathedral is now open again after being closed for some time, allowing visitors to admire its beauty once more.
Amazing architecture and peaceful.

The Cathedral is a masterpiece of beauty and Truth. Not a secular worldly spot left and as it should be. You are entering the Holy of Holies. I’ve never seen anything like it. It most definitely directs all the senses to God. This is a beautiful work of the faithful.

The arena is fine, but nothing is special. They need to have more entrances open for popular matches because most Kazakhs don't cue up well. It is nice when the roof is open.

Nice Arena. Very clean and orderly. Easy to find your seats. Staff is helpful in assisting with directions and questions. Sells snacks and drinks and you're able to bring them back to your seats, unlike the hockey arena! Only one type of noice maker allowed, which helps with avoiding overly rowdy people. No alcohol or drinks allowed to be brought in. Four stars due to the steep seating with very limited feet room and no replays on TV screens.
Monument Kazakh Eli is a tourist attraction that commemorates Kazakh independence and history. It features bronze statues and a 91m tall column. Although the marble plates are white and polished, they lack any artistic embellishment. Visitors should bring their own water as there are no fountains or food stalls available. The monument is located among other notable landmarks which can be seen in drone photos.
Amazing landmark! I'd highly recommend the kazakh Eli wall as I feel it's the center off something beautiful, surrounding it has many other remarkable landmarks as you can see in the drone photos I've taken :)

Mega Silk Way, a major tourist attraction in Astana, Kazakhstan, is a significant project initiated by the government to boost tourism and the economy. Opened in 2017 by the Presidents of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, it offers a wide range of experiences. The shopping center within Mega Silk Way is the largest mall in Astana, featuring international and local stores, a food court, entertainment options like Chaplin Cinema and an ice rink.
Good big mall! They got good shops, supermarket and restaurants to choose from! Plus they have bench to sit if you want to charge your phone. Can’t remember the exit, but this is just opposite from the Astana Expo where you can visit NUR ALEM Future Energy Museum! Good area to walk around as it looks massive.

Biggest Mall in Astana with good selection of shops including western & local brands, food court & entertainment. Across 2 levels, the mall has a cloakroom, so you don't need to carry your coat around while you shop. Next, Zara, H&M, Superdry, Lacoste, Massimo Dutti, Technodom, Sports Master, LC Waikiki, Koton etc. Includes a large Chaplin Cinema, Ice Rink, and various kids' entertainment sections too. There are also mini aquariums & indoor bird cages on the lower floor. Beware in the food court there are free birds flying around looking for leftover food. Includes Galmart store for groceries. Food court has many US brands, McDonald's, KFC, Burger King, Hardies plus local fast food options, Taksim plus others.
There are also sit in restaurants located by the main entrance.
Plenty of outdoor parking available.

Huge modern shopping center with many stores, restaurants, cafes and bistros. You may find here, whatever you want, I think. Entrance and ways to the stires are barriere free, front doors have automatic door opener. Prices differ from shop to shop, but there is also supermarkets with cheaper prices and special offers. And last but not least, also children will enjoy staying here, as there are many attractions for children

Among many other malls, MegaSilkWay is suspicious of many international and local brands. The food court is full of choices for all people of ages. Kids' play area. Cinema too! Although I couldn't experience it yet, due to lack/no English titles. Excellent place to spend time and relaxation for a while.

That's a gigantic mall. Everything looks new and clean. You would find all kinds of shops her as in any good European or American mall. The food choices in the food court are decent too. We liked Izbushka. The food choice is close to an old Soviet stile stolovaya, but a good one.

I don't recommend going there on weekend evenings. There are so many people that it’s hard to find a place to sit. In the mall itself there is an excellent cinema and a bunch of other entertainment options.
P. S. It’s best to come here in the morning on weekdays (second photo), since there are usually fewer people

It's a big mall! It does its job of being a big mall by having lots of cool things to do.
I think it is a very pretty mall too, the prices are very affordable if you look for the things on sale. It also has a lot of variety.
If you are from the US you will be happy to go to a mall where people are walking and talking and having fun, quite a difference from the dead malls of the US.

Convenient location if you are visiting the University. The place is a great option for some good old western flavour. But for me it shines as the only place around where you can eat tipical Kazakh food, in one of the restaurants on the ground level (Rumi)

The Saken Seifullin Museum is a small yet impactful museum that can be explored in about an hour, especially with the help of an audio guide. The entrance fee is affordable and there's an option to get the audio guide for a slightly higher price. Visitors have praised the polite and welcoming staff. The museum offers insight into the life and work of the renowned Kazakh poet Saken Seifullin, who faced repression and persecution from Soviet authorities.
