The zoo is a popular tourist destination in Asahikawa, Hokkaido due to its large variety of animals, including polar bears and penguins.
Best zoo visit ever for my family. It's beautiful in snow & the highlight was definitely the penguin walk.
Do not miss if you visit Asahikawa.

I have been to many popular zoos across different countries and there is something very interesting about this zoo which I rated 5-star. Perhaps the entrance and the overall layout of the zoo might not seem appealing but there are animals here that are worth seeing!
Opened in 1967, the highlight of the zoo is the very adorable huge penguins. There were so many of them and it was such a great experience to be able to see them up close. There were other interesting animals in the zoo such as the seals, polar bear, the underwater hippopotamus, and many more!
I strongly recommend paying a visit to this zoo despite some not-so-good reviews about the zoo.

2023.8.19 (Sat) Parked at the West Gate 500 yen parking lot. The main polar bears are close. I entered at the same time as the opening on Saturday, so I was able to see the polar bears, seals, and penguins at a time when they were not hungry. It got crowded after 10:00. The polar bear mumbling time was 15 minutes before the start, but I thought it would be easier, but the deadline was 15 minutes before. It would have been better to line up 30 minutes before. I slipped in. Also, even from outside, it seemed like I could see Mogu Mogu Time, so there was a lot of cheering.
Souvenirs, the items sold are quite different at each store, so if you find a souvenir you like, it would be better to buy it there. Is there a difference in management? Please note that there are shops that can be used with discount coupons for souvenirs and shops that cannot be used.
There are many height differences and stairs, and the child was tired because I went on a hot day.

Asahiyama Zoo in Hokkaido is undoubtedly a standout among zoological parks. Its reputation precedes it, celebrated for its vast expanse and unwavering commitment to cleanliness. Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a plethora of well-fed animals, their care evident in their vibrant health and contentment.
Having had the pleasure of visiting twice with my family, I can attest to the zoo's ability to captivate visitors time and time again. Each visit unveils new insights and experiences, making it a truly enriching outing for all ages.
Among the myriad attractions, the penguin march and the polar bear museum stand out as crowd favorites, offering delightful spectacles and educational opportunities. However, amidst all the wonders, my heart remains with the endearing red pandas, their playful antics never failing to bring joy to my visits.
Asahiyama Zoo is not merely a place to observe animals; it is a sanctuary of learning, entertainment, and appreciation for the natural world. Its combination of impeccable facilities, diverse exhibits, and charming inhabitants make it a must-visit destination for anyone exploring Hokkaido.

We were at Asahiyama Zoo in December 2019, just before COVID-19 hit. It was a magical place for me. I have been to many zoo's before but this place was my favourite. All the animals were amazing, and didn't give me the feeling that they were depressed or trapped. The day we went was a bit warm for the penguins so they couldnt be out to be closer to us. We would come back here one day with our young son.

One of the best zoos I've ever visited. We (2 adults) had a great time walking around the exhibits during January winter even though it was quite cold. Most of the exhibits had an indoor area which offered a brief respite from the cold. Parking was easy and the grounds staff maintained the pathways well. We went on a Monday morning and it was quiet with no wait to buy tickets.
The zoo has some unique animals including polar bears, red pandas, snowy owl, arctic fox, snow leopard, lion cubs, wolves, reindeer, and our favourite, the Pallas' cat! We managed to see a few feeding times (signs with times at the exhibit) and without understanding Japanese they were still entertaining for us.

Not too bad for the price. Cute animals, family and children friendly place, there’s baby stroller and wheelchair free for use. I think would be nice for winter to watch the penguin walk.
Don’t forget to have a soft serve there which has the butt of polar bear 🤭

This was my 5th visit, but the temperature in Asahikawa was over 35 degrees, so I was really tired this time. The animals are exhausted, probably because of the heat. Maybe it's just my imagination, but I feel like the number of cages with nothing on display has increased. However, it does not change much that it is a zoo where you can see the original movement of animals. Facilities where you can eat in the park are cheap and there are many delicious meals, so we recommend eating inside the park.

Had such an amazing time exploring the Asahiyama Zoo. My wife and I decided to go on a Thursday to avoid the weekend crowds, which seemed to work out pretty well. We also ordered tickets online beforehand to avoid the hassle of the line when we arrived. We arrived by public transportation (40 min bus ride from the Asahikawa Station) and arrived 20 minutes before the zoo opened and there were already some people in line (around 20 people), so be sure to get there early. When the park opened at 9:30, some of the people were running to the different exhibits and we were confused why until we looked at the website. They have a feeding schedule for the different animals, so be sure to check that out before arriving so you can maximize your time and have an efficient route through the park. We ended up going back to some of the enclosures multiple times to see the feeding because we did not plan our route ahead of time (we didn’t mind though). In my opinion, the best feedings to check out were the penguins and the polar bears. We were able to get a spot near the front of the enclosure for the penguin feeding and got great pictures, but be sure to line up 15 mins early for the polar bear feeding, as the enclosure doesn’t have as open of a layout and people cram into the viewing area. It was amazing watching the polar bears jump off the rocks into the water to get the food. We also watched the red panda feeding which was a bit less exciting. The zoo keeper spread out apple slices throughout the enclosure and the red pandas had to work to get into some of the feeding balls to get the yummy reward. They were so adorable though, so we enjoyed that one a good bit too. Some of the enclosures really allow you to get up close to the animals without interfering with their daily activities and allow for some amazing camera angles. Overall we spent 4 hours in the zoo and we could have been there even longer. Definitely check this zoo out if you are in Hokkaido, it is worth the trip. Do note that there are a lot of tiny flies flying around in the air though and that seemed to bother a lot of people (we visited on November 2nd, might not be as many bugs during different times of the year).

It was a winter trip to the zoo, hoping to experience the Penguin walk but sadly the event was closed. But we did see the penguins up close and it goes the same for other animals.
Please be prepared as they weather gets really cold. So gloves, heatpacks, scarfs/mufflers are a must!! Lots of snow and ice on the grounds so do walk slowly and when it got too cold, we escaped into any of the animal enclosures or washrooms for some warmth from heaters.
Not all animals are out during winter but was enough to spend 2 - 3 hours just watching them and taking photos/video.
Driving there was easy as there were signs leading to the zoo with traffic ushers for the parking. Tickets were easily bought at counter. Many vending machines with hot drinks/canned soups. There was also a cafe and restaurant. Gift shop sold cute items and biscuits/snacks with pretty zoo themed packaging.
We enjoyed ourselves especially at the penguin and fierce animal enclosures. We are considering to return in spring or summer!

It is really worth to go there. The ticket is only 1000yen. And I had so many kind of animal and insects to see. Because the zoo located in Hokkaido there are some special animals which can survive in cold weather. 🦭🐻❄️🐺
Moreover what I was interested in was infos on board which was made by university students and zookeepers. Those info was really unique that only people who take face animals everyday can write and not only good things which media show but also sad things such as die.
I couldn’t see people read the boards but I recommend you to read those boards it will bring you to understand about life deeply. Half of infos were translated in English.

One of the highlights of our trip! They have a few “up close and personal” displays where you get a really clear view of the animals. Polar bear exhibit and the penguin walk were some of our favorites. There were 3 adorable lion cubs when we visited in Dec 2022 too. There’s a huge variety of Hokkaido animals too - was nice watching them during the winter. Definitely worth a special trip here.

A well rated and educational zoo that is worth a visit. It has unique animals like red panda, polar bear, wolves (though we didn’t get to see it), fox , penguins etc. The zoo made an effort to write the stories/notes about the animals in english as well.
Kids enjoyed their day in the zoo and able to see the animals up close. Able to cover it in less than half a day.

Though being not too big the zoo does provide interesting enclosures and how they display the animals for visitors. The penguin, seal & polar bear exhibits was memorable.
The foods are reasonably priced and we’re happy to see that there are numerous animals for us to see.

I was able to enter smoothly and it was still bright, so I was able to see a lot of animals and had a very cute and fun time. Variety of animals to see, things for the kids to enjoy, and plenty of food/ refreshment places to recharge and treat yourself to.😋
Easy getting to this place by car and parking (opposite to the zoo entrance, which is quite large) is free.
Reasonably priced to enter (sorry, I can't remember but it was reasonable)

The zoo is very well kept and maintained. They took care of the animals very well, you can see from the climbing facilities they have for the monkeys.
All signs are hand drawn and handmade. Very cute and I am entertained just from all the amusing signs they put around the zoo. The animals have shining fur and very well fed.
They certainly put their whole heart into this zoo. 💛

I've been to many zoos, and so far this is the best I've ever seen. Very well loved animals that have good enrichment, clean exhibits, and seem happy. Every animal we came across was active. The design and flow of the zoo is excellent, making it easy to navigate and reducing clusters so everyone can see. There are plenty of drink machines available in addition to the restaurants - all very reasonably priced. We spent 6 hours here and would have happily spent more were they not closing!

If I could give it a zero… I would.
Not enough room for the animals in their enclosures. Polar bears looked stressed and only had a very small piece of land to walk backwards and forwards in.
The brown bear was also in a tiny enclosure. Very sad and felt sick that I had paid to get in this jail cell for animals.
The two hippos I saw had only concrete for their land. Their water was frozen over.
The chimps were literally in a small room jail cell, looked sickening. I didn’t take photos because I felt sick at seeing this and didn’t stay long.
The baby brown bear, stressed in the smallest concrete room I’ve seen for an animal.
The giraffes were in a small outdoor enclosure shivering away as it’s snowing and I don’t think they are meant to be a snowy winter animal… (please educate me if I’m wrong).
These animals may have been in a concert jail cell because of the winter weather maybe? I hope it’s not for long as that would be an incredibly sad life for them.
Again, I didn’t take many photos because I felt terrible for being there and didn’t stay long.
But.. at least the penguins and smaller animals seemed to be doing alright.

A small zoo with the penguin walk being a major highlight. If you take the bus from JR Station, recommend taking the 930 one or earlier cause the lines are so long waiting for the bus, you might not make it to the first bus if you are aiming for the 11am parade. Buy your ticket ahead of time in the building ! The returning bus is not as frequent.
it is hard to get a view as people all start to line up for it.
The zoo has some slippery areas and coin lockers.

The zoo is very cold in the morning, especially when you wait outside and line up for the opening. Highlight of the zoo is the popular penguin walk that happens at 11:30am and 2:00pm. Fun to watch the penguins as they walk. There are vending machines and cafes inside. If you smoke, there are designated smoking areas. Can be accessed by direct bus from Asahikawa station. Tickets can be bought same day before entering, 1000 yen for adults.

My family had limited time visiting the zoo.
Arrived at around 1:30pm only had 2 hours to explore as the zoo closes at 3:30pm.
It was worth it. Love the famous penguin walk. They are just adorable.
Visiting during winter while it was snowing makes the scenery more special.
The red panda is cute as well.
Entry fee is reasonable. Adult 1000 yen. My kids 7 and 9 at the time were granted free admission.

If you're coming from a country without four seasons like me, this is the zoo that you must visit. I feel so good when visiting a zoo during winter, where everything is covered with white snow.
The penguin walking show starts at 11 am sharp, with visitors queuing and standing on both sides of the walkway while the penguins walk down the middle of the corridor. The zoo premises are small, so you can finish your visit within 20-30 minutes.
There are two restaurants in this zoo, and the shoyu ramen here is famous. The serving pace in the restaurant is fast.
Coby Khor — Google review
I liked that the zoo had those special tube's where you can observe the animals better, but I don't think the cage are appropriate for the animals. They were really small and empty. There were 5 lions who had not much in their cage and only about 100 square meter.
Many animals also were alone, at least outside, but during opening hours there also only is outside, because the animals have no shelter.
I understand that this helps visitors to see all animals, but it's still not good and sad
Sajina — Google review
My favorite zoo in the world! Penguin parade was the highlight. Standing in the freezing weather for 40 minutes was worth the effort.
Seal gliding on the tube was a close and cute encounter. However, Polar bear was not in a good mood, annoyingly walking back and forth.

We visited on 19th June. Established in 1906. The garden is well maintained and absolutely gorgeous with many flowers blooming.
A heaven for Macro photo taking.
Its known as the Gnome's garden also as the kids can run about the garden finding and counting how many gnomes are there and they all get a small prize at the end.
We saw 15 gnomes and our friends found 17.
They refuse to reveal how many gnomes are there in total understandably to keep the game in suspense.
Allow 1 hour at least for this fairytale land as other reviewers mentioned.

Lovely flower garden, should make a visit if flowers and plants are your thing. Lots of flowers, although not everything was in full bloom, went there early July. There's also a cafe and dessert shop inside. The area is quite big, can spend a couple of hours and take some lovely photographs. Only issue was getting there from Asahikawa station, the bus service is only in the morning and early afternoon if not mistaken. We arrived at the station at around 3pm. I rated this 5 stars because this is, in my opinion, the most beautiful station (in terms of interior design) I've ever been in Japan. The warm and minimalist aesthetics of its modern hallways adorned by the wooden walls give it more of a museum vibe than a station. Students stay in the evening hours to study at station hallways, enjoying the relaxed and calm atmosphere. Commuters perhaps give respect to the superb architectural space by behaving in a quiet subdued manner. The elegant finish extend even at the square fronting the station and mall. Worth a stop if you are in Asahikawa. Theo informational video on the 3rd floor can be seen in 5 languages including English. They have a great explanation and really kind staff willing to help. You can taste 6 of their sakes for free and 3 for a 100 yen payment. The payment ones are their star sakes. I recommend not coming by car unless you have someone who does not drink per definition as you may not drink and drive in japan even for 1 taster. The museum is free entry and you can see into their factory through windows. Best time to visit is November to March when they are actually brewing the sake. The mountain source water as other reviews mention is indeed very yummy. It seems locals even bring a lot of large water bottles to fill at the factory for free

I couldn’t resist and snapped up 4 bottle of sake.
I went straight for the recommendations from the shop assistant. 3 bottles are unique specific to the shop (those you can only buy there). 1 bottle of good premium sake. If you are overseas from Australia like me, you will appreciate the much lower pricing of the sake you can get here.
Interestingly, they have vending machines that allow you to try sake - 100 yen per cup.

The brewery is interesting. At the top floor they have a video in various languages to explain the brewing process. My favourites however are the sake tasting and the water collection. The sake tasting is split into 2. Free and paid. For the free one, there are 6 different sakes to taste, but you're only given enough tokens to taste 3. My advice is to come with someone else so that you have 6 tokens and can sample all 6. The paid one is a 100 yen per taste and there are 3. The paid ones are tasting their award winning sakes.
For the water collection, outside the brewery there is a water collection point to collect and drink the water from the mountains that they use to brew the sake with. Many locals come by with big bottles to collect the water so its definitely a hit with locals

The Asahikawa Science Museum is a great place to visit with children as they offer excellent exhibits on different areas of science in Japanese. The staff are very helpful and able to communicate in English, making it an ideal spot for visitors of all ages. Entry is only JPY 500 per adult and JPY 300 per child, making it an affordable outing for the whole family.
This is a Science Museum, relatively small (you can also tell that by the size of its gift shop). However, I did have a very good time for hours with my little girl. All science demonstrations here delivered Science knowledge to kids, as well as funs (most with English description). Several staffs spoke English to guide us, especially when my daughter played with the "low-gravity jumping" and "free-rotation seat". So as the "taking photos of your shadows", great toy even to me. Excellent place to visit in Asahikawa!! You may put it into your travel plan.

I I like this science centre as they have a lot of interesting exhibits on the first floor. I went there twice but still could not finish touring around all the exhibits. You must visit the planetarium!!!
All the staff they are friendly and polite, except for 1 bespectacled man who looked to be about in his early fifties who was very curt. I wish he did not work there and spoil my impression of the centre.

This place rocks even as an adult. Had so much fun the staff were very friendly and nice. Great value for money. Not everything is translated into English but that is to be expected.

Some fun things for children to try out but a bit disappointing for adults if you’re going to there to learn. Planetarium was good!

Great little science centre to spend an hour or two with kids. The exhibits are excellent even though all is in Japanese. Staffs are very helpful and are able to communicate in English. Only JPY 500 per adult and JPY 300 per child. Absolutely the place you can spend a great time interacting with your kids - highly recommended.

Small a lot to do and supporting staff to assist.
For the size of the science museum this place was amazing. Still a lot to do and concentration exhibits laid out to amaze all ages. You can view all in about an hour unless you want to partake in the special show and the 30 minutes performance.

Interactive and staff were very helpful even though we do not speak Japanese. Zero wait time at every station and we had a lot of fun!
The Ayako Miura Memorial Literature Museum is a museum dedicated to the famous Japanese author Ayako Miura. This museum features information about her life, works and legacy. The location of this museum is significant as it is located in the setting of her most famous novel, Freezing Point. This place is highly recommended for anyone interested in Ayako Miura or Christian literature in general.
Miura Ayako was the iconic author representing Asahikawa, a great museum to get to know her more, with nice and decent exhibit.
Plus, it's a soothing to walking around in the snow during spring.

(Translated by Google) It is truly a sacred place for fans of Miura's literature. The Literary Museum itself is famous for its beautiful and distinctive exterior, but I love the stained glass on the stairs leading up to the second floor.
Volunteer Miura Literary Guides will be very enthusiastic about explaining the inside of the museum.
I think there are some difficulties because it is run by a private company, but the fact that if you go to Hokkaido, there is a literature museum there is a great source of emotional support. We will continue to support the Museum of Literature at every opportunity so that it can be maintained forever and continue to shine as a stronghold of Miura's literature.

Kamui Ski Links is a large ski resort located in the northern area of Douhoku with excellent views. The powdery snow makes it a great place to ski all year round.
Good times riding here ! Got some really nice backcountry lines, the resort is not expensive at all, pretty big, curry rice is the best. What else can we ask for !

What a great ski resort!
The courses are very huge and it provides variety of courses.
The quality of snow is worth visiting. As Asahikawa locates in the internal part of Hokkaido, its cold climate provides one of the highest quality of snow not only in Hokkaido but also all around the world.
The most favorable aspect is that this resort has beautiful spectacles. Views from the top of mountain is out of description.
As is often the case with ski resorts in Hokkaido, foods are great.
Buses from the center of Asahikawa city is available.
Happiness depends on if you visit Kamui Ski Links...

Solid mountain conveniently located close to Asahikawa. The terrain is good for all levels and the staff are friendly and try to help. Plus they have a gondola and tickets reasonable.
Ert Jaffe — Google review
A nice place to snowboard. Multiple choices of slopes to suit different need from beginners to expert. Near to town as well. Definitely a good place beside luxury resort such like Furano and Niseko.
Cg Teng — Google review
After skiing in Niseko, Rusutsu, the 3 club meds, Furano. I find this is the best hidden gem among all the ski fields in Hokkaido. Ever since covid, all the resorts in Hokkaido had jacked up their prices. Rusutsu day pass now is over 10000 yen. Not only the lift tickets has raised its price, but also the price of resort food courts. A 30% increase to around 100% is not all that uncommon for a normal ramen or a curry rice.
We went to Kamui on 2 separate days, we head to lunch at 12 and we didn’t have to wait for a table. You can still find a 900 yen ramen and a few simple items under 1000 yen. The pizza pasta place on top of the gondola is even emptier, maybe due to its relatively pricy menus.
Kamui is a medium size mountain in Japan’s standard. It’s a bit north, so it’s colder and has the same great Hokkaido snow more similar to Furano. The mountain is not super high but it’s very wide. There are multiple green routes you can come down on the main side of Kamui. There are many options for beginners to practice on their own accords.
Then there is the backside mountain, a mountain with only reds and blacks. With most tree area considered as in bound, it’s a huge playground for those who wants to challenge themselves. And it’s quiet, I found untouched snow area 2 days after a dump. And best of all, it’s not windy.
Lift pass for a family of 4(2A and 2 kids), is around 12000yen, a day pass for Rusutsu/Niseko is roughly 10000 yen.
The resort itself doesn’t have any ski in ski out hotel. If you want to stay around the area it’s probably best to stay in Asahikawa, which is a big city. We stayed in Furano and drove 1 hour each way. The drive itself was quite nice, we went thru a few towns and there were many convenient stores on the way for snacks and toilet breaks.
Kamui ski links has far exceeded my expectations, make sure you check it out if you are in mid Hokkaido. I will definitely plan my trip around it next time.

Potential but not enough snow during my visit. We had about 10cm fresh on hard pack. Looks like there is some good off piste but I think you would need a solid base to make it truly accessible. Facilities good, tickets and food reasonably priced.

Friendly staff, assortment of terrain, trees to ski in (other mtns still had theirs closed off), and affordable lift tickets (accept credit too).
They also have a couple resteraunts/cafeterias (one at the top with great views)

Huge resort. Lots of powder during our stay. Paid 30,000 yen for 4 hours of ski lessons for 2 persons. Instructor was japanese but could communicate in English sufficiently (with some help from google). 3,800 yen for ski lifts (day pass)
Lim Joel — Google review
They have got 4-5 paths for beginners. The price is 3500 yen for 4 hours and 3800 yen for a whole day. They have a green path up to 4 km long which we are yet to try. There is a lady near the front reception who can speak English and she was very friendly and represented a very good image for our experience. Will come again in the future..

Fantastic little ski resort with little competition for fresh tracks.
A great place to spend a few days, plenty of terrain some of it with good pitch.
Excellent grooming on the days it isn't snowing plus they leave the sides of the runs ungroomed for some awesome powder stashes.
Cheap lift tickets, cheap food, great vibes.
Don't underestimate the little chairlifts, whilst everyone is riding the gondola you can have a great piece of the mountain to yourselves
Seb Murphy — Google review
A bit reluctant to review this hidden gem. Small-ish but it is absolutely charming. Staff go above and beyond and lift passes are so affordable. There are a lot of Japanese ski school groups but they somehow always manage to stay discreetly out of your way. The only thing is that the lifts on the bottom of mountain are very slow but this allows you time to take in the gorgeous scenery. I liked it. We didnt do lessons but we did hire boards and boots, the staff were so helpful and friendly. They can speak a little English and they hired one or two native speakers. All up a fun and pleasant experience.

Kamui is a gem. Good variety of terrain, excellent powder quality, and fantastic lift-serviced off-piste skiing. The chairs are old, but I mostly lap the gondola, which gets you the whole vertical in one shot. Although a bit on the small size, Kamui ranks with the best ski areas in Hokkaido... Niseko, Rusutsu, Furano, Kiroro.
Sonny Rosenthal — Google review
Visited on Feb 2024. Lifts barely have any queue, other than sporadic groups of students. LOTS of lines to ski for everyone from beginner to expert. Mostly locals and students. Lift tickets are somewhat cheap too (3800yen/USD25 for one day, compared to over 5000yen for other typical resorts). Beginner slopes are very gentle. Food options are decent, consisting of mainly Japanese rice sets or udon/soba sets. Remember to return the lift IC card after your session to get a refund of 500yen.
My biggest complaint is that the lifts are very, very slow. Also, I feel that the terrain is not powdery enough due to the sun constantly melting the snow into ice, resulting in rather slippery slopes. Rental is also quite slow, as there are not a lot of staff.
The peaceful Tokiwa Park features two large ponds and rows of blooming cherry trees in spring, summer, and fall. The park is also known for its annual fireworks festival.
As it was winter, there were hardly any visitors around, so I felt as if I had the whole park to myself. It was so quiet and peaceful.
The pond in the middle was frozen. Please do not think about stepping on it because there is a sign that warns visitors of the risk of falling into the pond. And it is NOT fun.
Because it is winter, all the toilets are locked except for the one at the main entrance. So I had to walk one big round to find a toilet.
So the moral of the story is, please empty your bladder at the main toilet before walking around.

A museum devoted to snowflakes is located in the city of Asahikawa, in Japan. The museum features displays of beautiful ice crystals, as well as a music hall themed around snow flakes. The venue is quite small, but its unique design and atmosphere make it an attractive tourist destination.

The ticket for one adult is 700 yens. In my opinion, it's not worth it. There isn't too much to see. Yes, it's pretty and has some cool ice inside, but that's it, there isn't too much else to see. A shop, an event room, a video library, which is everything in Japanese.
It has a restaurant inside, but you can access to it from outside the museum. The money doesn't worth the visit.
Mariano Matayoshi — Google review
Exquisite place with elegant snow design everywhere and stunning halls! There are only some designated rooms so to be honest it's all more like a feast to eyes than an interesting experience. And despite the map it's still hard to make the way since all rooms are connected and there are two floors, making it harder to find directions. The restaurant only offers like 5 lunch sets but it's well-prepared and worthy, about ¥1200-1500 for a lunch set with a main dish, salad/bread, soup and dessert, or ¥500-800 for dessert only. Even the dishes are inspired by the signature snow design!

I'd call it more of an event hall, with a small element of "museum". There's plaques in Japanese, English, and Chinese, so you can learn all about the formation, crystallization, and science of snowflakes in three languages. If you like sparkly things, there's plenty of that to entertain the eyes.
If you're also the sort who likes to get dressed up like a pretty princess, they also have a photo package and rental service. Just call ahead to make a reservation though.

A romantic scenic spot. The 'museum' displays quite a number of 'snow'-like exhibits. With the crystal lamps, this place is decorated as a castle in Frozen. There is also a hall for wedding or music performance, with more than 140 seats. The time spent in this place is around 30 to at most 45 minutes.

The Asahikawa Kitasaito Garden is a small but high quality community garden located right next to Asahikawa Station. It has a lovely view of Daisetsuzan and can be enjoyed for its beautiful surroundings and well maintained grounds.

Beautiful park which makes you love Asahikawa.
It was my favorite spot in the town.
Stretches quite a distance and there's a few water bodies to enjoy.
I sat down to enjoy the sunset and watch the birds.

(Translated by Google) You can directly enter this very large park from the back door of Asahikawa Station. This map point is mainly the most famous garden in it. It is really beautiful when the sun is bright. It's close to the station and I think it's a must-visit attraction.
There is a visitor center next to it with tables, chairs, toilets, and Wi-Fi for rest.

(Translated by Google) The facilities were very good.
I felt that the changing rooms, toilets, and meals were good.
I think it's an easy-to-use environment for people who don't have a car.
It was close to the station and easy to access.
To put it bluntly, I think it's a place that feels like home, but it's a shame that it feels abandoned unless visitors talk to it.
Maybe it's because there are so many people coming. . .
The snow tube at the back of the grounds was very nice.
The fact that it was free was appealing.
It was perfect for my 2 year old to play with for a bit.

Asahikawa Ramen Village is a popular ramen restaurant with locations throughout the city. The restaurants specializes in shoyu soy sauce broth and thin, wavy noodles. There's even a location inside Asahikawa Station.
This place has a collection of ramen places, each with a different speciality. We tried a traditional ramen and also one with a silky fowl base. Some places offer half bowls so you can try a few bowls at different shops.

Tried 2 different ramen stall, taste were ok only, nothing special. The ramen stall in the AEON mall sells better ramen than what I had at the ramen village. If you are taking the train to come here, take note on the irregular schedule.

I ate at SANTOUKA it is widely present in a lot of Countries fascinating about this place is the Authentic taste I always Order the Shio (Salt) because it brings out the real goodness of the broth

8 ramen restaurant, pictures and prices up outside each place. It would have been good to distinguish each joint so they had their own reviews. Lots of places do half bowl ramen however prices were not far off a full bowl. The place we went into, I wouldn't recommend. The vegetable ramen had mince through it. My Asahikawa soy ramen just wasn't that great. We didn't finish our food, the cheese gyoza was really awful (mixed mince and some strange cheese, I thought it was cheese only). It was also quite expensive for the quality.

There are 8 ramen restaurants in this building complex. In order to let customers taste more than one ramen, the restaurants offer mini size (~ 3/4 or 1/2 of the normal portion) of their signature ramen. We tried 3 ramen restaurants at one go. They all at quite high quality.

I tried Ramen outside home for the first time. Though I prefer the home Ramen, I also liked this one

really underwhelming, but it may be because we went on a weekend so a lot of the places were closed.

Fun little ramen place but you can also get similar ones in town. A good trip if you went to the sake museum before (or after) as it’s in the same part of town. The ramen wasn’t particularly better or more unique to others you can find close to the station.

It was a nice experience and I was really full after trying 3 shops of ramen. However, I think is better to only try these two 青叶 and 梅光轩(rated as one Michelin star). Personally I don’t really like the shoyu based ramen but it is a must to try for tourist.
YM NG — Google review
Too many tourists, including us. We decided to go to the one without waiting lines outside. But, the line quickly formed right after we were seated. Ramens were good, but they were too salty for my kid. I wonder if this was a common trouble to others with kids.
CS Kuo — Google review
Went after 5pm and it is already closed. Hence we ate at one of the Ramen restaurants. Ensure you got cash as card is not accepted. Ramen was interestingly savoury and the soup base was aromatic. Also ordered Gyoza which was not fantastic just normal. This is all based on foreigner perspective
Chris (fujiko) — Google review
One tummy one meal. Only managed to try one Ramen shop there.
That shop is meant to be highest google review ratings based on restaurants in the village.
Abit of research indicated that Asahikawa is famous for their shoyu based broth.
Disappointingly, the ramen taste was abit underwhelming. A well known place with a name called Ramen village should have ramen with exceptionally standing out characteristics and quality. I found the ramen pretty standard.
Alfred W — Google review
In Ramen Village, numerous ramen restaurants beckon, but during lunch, most were fully occupied. Fortunately, we secured a table at one of them. The taste was average, not compelling enough to justify a journey solely for ramen.
Leslie Lee — Google review
Come to this place to get a collection of stores serving ramen. Must try the signature soy sauce based broth ramen.

Love the atmosphere here and the food was alright. I actually prefer their gyoza to ramen.

We tried the Santouka Ramen there. The taste is the same as the main shop. It's a must try ramen shop there in my opinion. Especially the toroniku ramen.

Baihohken outlet in Singapore has closed down. Santouka still around.
However, most ramen served in this mura are too salty & oily for me.
Tsuboya Kibana no Mori is a local confectionery store in Asahikawa that specializes in chocolates and pastries. The store has a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere with light wood decor and garden seating. There are eat-in options for tea, as well as an extensive selection of Mondo chocolate products.
I wish I had more time to stay here instead of just 30 minutes that was given.
I love the sweets here. They use fresh ingredients, and they tasted delicious without being overwhelmingly sweet.
My tour guide said the apple pies here are absolutely heavenly, and I gotta try them. So I rushed to get it the moment I got off the bus.
The aromatic flaky crust, the sweet and juicy apples with a hint of cinnamon, and the vanilla custard. Oooh... It was a perfect marriage of all ingredients. After I had finished it, I got up to join the queue once more but discovered that they were sold out. I wish I had bought the whole tray when I was lining up the 1st time. Take note that they sell a limited number of apple pies every day.
I also tried their strawberry short cake and mont blanc. They were equally good.
In fact, I wish I had more space in my stomach so I could try every cake on display.

Kibana no Mori is not your typical omiyage (souvenir) shop. It’s more like a multi-functional space, integrating several services under one roof. Aside from its own retail space showcasing its popular confections, it also has a cafe where guests could enjoy some of their sweet creations, as well as a library with books for guests to read free of charge (unfortunately it’s all in Japanese), all housed next to their production kitchens where their famous confections, cakes and pastries are made. They even have culinary classes for kids.
Tsuboya, the company behind Kibana no Mori, is known for their confection, the Kibana, which won numerous Monde Selection awards and has become their main product. Kibana no Mori is the only place in Hokkaido where all 3 flavours of Kibana are sold (i.e. original, strawberry and chocolate). They have free samples for all 3 flavours which you can try at the retail section. The Kibana tastes really good and makes a perfect gift.
Visiting Kibana no Mori was definitely one of the few memorable highlights from my recent trip to Asahikawa. The decor and style of the place has a modern Japanese feel, using a lot of wood with simple clean designs and utilising natural and warm lighting, creating a warm and cozy ambience. Lounging at the cafe while enjoying the cakes and coffee while overlooking their garden felt so relaxing and peaceful.
One thing that you have to try would be their apple pie which is very popular with the locals. It’s got this lovely flaky crust that just crumbles in your mouth. The diced apples were perfectly cooked and still has that bite to it which was great (hate it when the apples are overcooked making soft a mushy). It was also not overly sweet with a nice refreshing tanginess. The apples were enveloped with a thin layer of frangipane, adding a dash of nutty aroma.
As for their other cake and snack selections, it really depends on what you order. Some are pretty good while others are pretty average.
The place is pretty quiet during the weekdays but gets more local crowd on the weekends (we visited the place twice, once on a weekday and once on a weekend, and noticed the difference in the crowd). Please do note that if you wish to try their apple pie, it’s best to try it on a weekday as it’ll be sold out very quickly on a weekend, unless you arrive there early on a weekend.
I noticed that practically all their customers are locals. It could be that most tourists either don’t know of the place or don’t know how to get here as it’s inconvenient get to (not near a train station or requires a lot of walking)
Fear not as it’s as simple as taking a bus. Just head on over to bus stop number 27 (located in front of Hotel Route-Inn Grand Asahikawa Ekimae) and take bus 71. Then get off at 5 jo 20 chome (if you’re unsure you can refer to Google maps for navigation, just remember to get off just before the cross junction a street away from the building as the bus will turn the other direction away from the building).
If you’re a fan of sweets, confections and lounging at relaxing cafes, then this place is recommended for you. It’s definitely 4 stars in my books.

Nice place to sample and buy the full range of Tsuboya confectionery products here! Tsuboya is a famous local confectionery in Asahikawa and they have just opened this flagship store here. Plenty of parking as there is a big supermarket just next door. Eat-in options are available for a nice afternoon tea.

旭山雪の村, located near the east gate of the zoo, offers a range of exciting winter activities. Visitors can enjoy snowmobiling and snow rafting in this winter amusement park. The staff are friendly and accommodating, ensuring a pleasant experience for solo travelers as well. Additionally, the village features a restaurant serving delicious and affordable meals such as miso ramen.
(Translated by Google) Instead of going to a restaurant, I went on a snowmobile experience at a winter amusement park. Not only the scenery at the top, but also the way up and down on the snowmobile was really fun. We also had a photo taken. Although I was traveling alone as a woman, all the staff were kind and warm. I didn't have much time, so I only tried snowmobiles, but snow rafting also looked interesting (*^^*)

The Hokkaido Gokoku Shrine is a serene and beautiful shrine that was built in 1902. It is dedicated to the spirits of fallen soldiers from Hokkaido and Sakhalin, and it also functions as a museum that exhibits material on military history in Hokkaido. The shrine is especially popular at night, as the sunset lends an aura of peace and Zen to the place.
Lovely place. We were there late in the evening and it was closed. So we enjoyed a slow walk around the shrine with the beautiful evening sun.
At least this is a must visit place at Asahikawa.

■I boarded a local bus from JR Asahikawa Station and visited Hokkaido Gokoku Shrine. It was raining cold and rainy that day, and the number of worshipers was sparse. It has a vast site of about 20,000 tsubo, and if I had time, I would have liked to explore every nook and cranny, but since I have a lot of plans ahead, I decided to visit Hokkaido Gokoku Shrine and Hokuchin Anzen Shrine and go to the Goshuin. All you have to do is have it. Also, if I have a chance, I would like to visit here to express my gratitude and pray for the repose of the souls of those who worked hard for the development of Hokkaido and for Japan.
