The pre-Covid bustling narrow walkways along the canal of Amphawa are (almost) empty. This “floating market” was very popular to weekend crowds from Bangkok, with lots of cute little cafe’s and art shops lining the canal. But, according to the owner of the little resort we stayed, it is this Bangkok crowd that is now staying away. A bit of a chicken and egg story. No shops no tourists & no tourists no shops.
It is still fairly busy in the narrow street starting from the temple, going across the walkway bridge to the narrow street on the south side of the canal, but that part does not have the bustling evening floating market vibe. Foreign tourist are still there, but mostly from China.
Peter van Zanten — Google review
Once upon a time, here thrived a vibrant floating market. Nowadays, it's transformed into a serene riverside marketplace, where the sight of boats peddling wares is scarce.
⚠️ Note: This market operates exclusively on weekends, in the afternoons and evenings. Visiting during weekdays or mornings is futile.
Weekend mornings are tranquil, as vendors prepare their stalls for the bustling afternoon crowds. Catering primarily to locals, this market offers a refreshing escape from touristy hubs, albeit with minimal foreign visitors. Don't anticipate a bustling river scene; instead, explore the myriad of shops lining the area's shores.
The absence of tourists also reflects in the pricing, where a satisfying meal can be enjoyed for 40 to 50 baht. While an authentic experience, this market appears to be gradually fading into obscurity.

Tha Kha Floating Market offers a traditional experience of buying fresh produce, street foods and clothing on and around the canal. It is a genuine local market which provides an opportunity to taste cheap, yet delicious Thai-style food while enjoying music in coffee shops. The morning visit to this market is recommended since it feels more authentic, less touristy and relatively calm with fewer vendors due to Covid-19.

Compared to Amphawa Floating Market, this place is more local. Most people around there are all local people. There’s not many tourists. And the price is cheap here. You can buy a coconut for only 10 BTH and an omelet is only 25BTH. Though there’s few seafood to purchase. If you are looking for lively touring experiences you should probably go to Amphawa. But Tha Kha is surely a good choice for some local experience.

Totally robbed.
We wereTold a trip from Bangkok in taxi round market was 300bsht per person. The taxi was, the trip by boat round the market was 3000 baht each!!!
Never felt so robbed in Thailand. Fumes from engines were appalling, nothing to buy that you couldn't get in town. Food very limited. They took us to a temple and zoo and gave us 20mins there.
We were back at the boat in 5mins. The state of the animals at the so called zoo nearly made us cry.
Do not fall for this tourist robbery!

I got recommended from a local to visit this floating market. The market is small with very chill vibe.
The food/fruit/veggies/etc is cheap (even for local like me). Some of them are direct from locals’ farm/garden so it’s good place that we can support local business. There are many local food/dessert here and the taste is fine. The sellers are friendly and make you feel welcoming. There is row boat tour with reasonable price for visitor/tourist.
It’s less than 20 mins drive from the folding umbrella market so recommended for a short visit before head back to BKK for your one day trip.

The King Rama II Memorial Park features a cultural-history museum and a traditional Thai house. The museum showcases the traditional Thai way of living and is surrounded by vast parks, perfect for strolling around or taking picturesque snaps. There are also several shops in the area, offering tasty treats such as coconut sorbet. Although the narration inside the museum is only available in Thai language, visitors can still enjoy its serene ambiance and authentic surroundings that include huge traditional homes from Thailand's past.

There seems to be a few shops as well-I had excellent coconut sorbet (not sure if they are there only fpr the weekend or not because there was another event going on inside the park at the time). Museum narration seems to be in Thai only however. If nothing else it offers great parking spot that can easily access the market and nearby Chaipattananurak Exhibition Project.

The historical Buddhist temple of Wat Bang Kung boasts a magnificent golden Buddha statue as its main point of prayer. This small rectangular-shaped temple is considered sacred and popular among visitors, attracting large crowds of both locals and tourists alike.
It was a very unique, quaint and serene temple with the golden Buddha inside and amazingly the whole temple is covered by the roots and branches of 200 year old trees! Oddly too that the windows and doors are not obstructed by them. You do have to take off your shoes before entering the Temple, and they do have several shoe racks to place them on, and seating when you are done. donations will help a lot. Once inside you can pray or go up and around the Golden Buddha, I've seen some paper bills being left at the back of the Buddha too, maybe as offering/donation. The guide at the door said no photos inside, but you can take yours in front of the temple doorway. Within the courtyard is another temple, this time surrounded by Mua Thai statues.

Wat Bang Kung (Thai: วัดบางกุ้ง) is an ancient temple in Samut Songkhram, Thailand, built during the Ayutthaya period. It was the site of the Battle of Bang Kung, between the Konbaung dynasty and the Thonburi Kingdom.
Wat Bang Kung is located in the same area as the Bang Kung Camp, on the opposite side and separated by a road. Within the temple, there is an old ordination hall which houses a large sculptured Buddha image commonly called by villagers as Luangpho Bot Noi. Mural paintings from the late Ayutthaya period depict Lord Buddha while he was sitting in the niche and preaching, flanked by the disciples in paying respect to him.

It's a good place. Learn and play with Thai cats. Free to visit. The cats here are very friendly. I love it here, so fun. Let's go to travel a lot. Help donate cat food or money, this is to continue to help conserve Thai cats.😻😻😻

Very uncomfortable seeing the cats in this facility. Sure they need to be in cages at times but the place reeks of cat piss. Floor is not cleaned and it's hot... Should at least put them in a nicer more hygienic facility. Didn't even want to take photos here. Regardless I hope the best for these cats and that they upgrade this facility. Feels more like a museum than a proper breeding institution. Staff are friendly though and I'm sure they mean well.
To end on good note...the cat Cafe is nice.

Good shelter for cats, especially by the standards of Thailand.
Before you write negative comments about the shelter, ask the shelter staff how you can help them to improve conditions for the cats.
Elementary, bring cat food, litter box fillers, ask what kind of medicine the cats need.
You are not helping those nice cats by writing a negative review.
Be kinder and back up your words with action.

The Rom Hup Market is a unique and unconventional marketplace situated on the railway tracks. It is said to have originated before the construction of the train, but the vendors decided to continue their trade despite its presence. Upon the arrival of an approaching train, awnings are retracted and goods are quickly moved to avoid any impact with passing trains. The market offers a variety of seafood items at much cheaper prices than in Bangkok.
Quiet on the day we went. Just 5 people on the trains. If i were to do it again, i’ll do it on the way back home so that we can get some fresh seafood back too. So much cheaper than bangkok price!
Yi Xi — Google review
Another unique thing to see outside of Bangkok. It's about an hour and 1/2 by car. The advice I have here is to walk down the tracks until you get to one of the coffee shops where you can sit and enjoy a nice cool drink while you wait for the train to come and pass you. These coffee shops will instruct you to stand up on the stools so you can get a really great view right up on the tracks.
You'll be immersed in the sights and smells of the wet market as you walk down the tracks.
It's a very interesting sight to see how they quickly pull everything in when the train comes.
There are some shops selling some different types of clothing items and hand bags. There's lots of food along the road headed to the tracks.
Overall this was a nice add-on because it's relatively close to the floating markets, therefore if you're in the area it's worth a quick visit.

A new experience if you've never experienced it. It's a highly touristy place and the items to be purchased are neither attractive to locals nor foreigners. Go get the coconut drink though, it's nice. The sellers some are really rude, of course understandable since the tourists don't want to listen and prefers to be run down by the train. Anyways, see it once and will never go again...

The Magic of Bangkok!
Railway Market in Bangkok is truly a hidden gem for any food lover or street market enthusiast. Located right next to a bustling railway track, this unique market offers a memorable experience like no other.
During my visit in February, the market was brimming with energy and vibrant colors. The atmosphere was bustling with locals and tourists, adding to the already lively ambiance. Strolling through the narrow lanes, I was captivated by the diverse array of food stalls, craft shops, and souvenir stands.
One of the highlights of Railway Market is its vast selection of delectable street food. From fragrant Thai curries to sizzling BBQ skewers, there was something to suit every palate. The aroma of freshly cooked seafood and stir-fried noodles filled the air, luring me to try every irresistible dish in sight. I couldn't resist indulging in some mouthwatering mango sticky rice - a true Thai delicacy.
Apart from the culinary delights, the market also offers an opportunity to witness an impressive spectacle. As the train approaches, shop owners hurriedly retract their awnings and move their produce off the tracks, making way for the passing locomotive. It's a remarkable sight to see how this bustling market transforms within seconds into a fully functional railway.
Navigating through the crowded market can be a bit challenging, especially during peak hours. However, it's worth the effort to immerse yourself in the local hustle and bustle. The shop owners were friendly and welcoming, always ready to guide visitors and share stories about their products.

A small market located on the railway tracks. The story is that the market has always existed and the authorities decided to build a train. The merchants decided after its construction to continue to maintain the market because it is their livelihood and for some it is the home. When the train arrives, the shadows are quickly folded and the stalls are moved away from the track, the train passes and the market returns to full activity.

When you come to Bangkok, one of the special attractions is the Railway Market. When you come to the railway market, only a few trains pass through the center of the market every day.
This miraculous phenomenon, in our view, is extremely thrilling. But it is common for the locals, and there are some cafes on both sides of the train road where you can sit and watch the whole process, so it is worth visiting.

Amazing experience riding a train through this street market.
So many different vendors selling souvenirs, food and drinks. I especially enjoyed freshly made fruit juices and slushies, delicious and absolutely refreshing.
You should definitely visit this place, especially that it is open on all the week days and it's actually not too crowded with tourists then (weekends are absolute madness!)
Hope this helps 🙏

Hmm...it is hard to explain.. the place itself is OK, the ticket is kinda pricey (sorry to say!), with the hot air around, it was a bit like a leaking hell, make sure you apply your sunscreen seriously! The boat driver was speedily navigating his boat on a narrow 'canal' while he was busy with his phone..whew... the water around me was cloudy browny, and at that time, I just saw a few sellers on their boats, maybe because it was very sunny.

Hot hot hot remember to bring a bottle of water and a hat. Don’t forget to put on sunscreen otherwise you might get sun burn. Very interest and traditional market. I love this market a lot. You can also wave goodbye to the passengers on the train and most of them will wave back, so much fun. Highly recommend it.

Just like in any night market, there are lots options from food to clothes to souvenirs. If you also get the chance to be there before the arrival of the train, you'll see lots of tourists very eager to see the train pass by while the market vendors move their stuff in an organized manner. It was a good experience though and the local restaurant served good food. 😊 There are also good options for Thai coffee and milk tea 😊

A fantastic place to visit! We booked a tour on Viator and our guide took us to get the train which we rode into the market. This was definitely a highlight of the experience and we then walked back along the train tracks, shopping in the market along the way before watching the train depart and making our way to our next destination. It's amazing how well the market has integrated to the train tracks and how smoothly the sellers retract their stalls and set them back up as the train moves through. Would definitely recommend.

It is an old flesh food market that set along the railroad. The unique is it is set so close to the railroad that when the train come, the merchant have to put down the umbrella to avoid hitting the train and put up again after train passed. That is how the name of the market comes from. Rom mean umbrella and Hub mean put down.

Interesting market that seems to have a great selection of food and vegetables. We boarded the train at a stop under a bridge on the Rama 2 Rd and bought tickets on board. Nice ride through the countryside. The train pulls right into the market and stops at the end of the line. Various food stalls nearby. Very cool!

A must see for those who’ve never seen or experienced anything like this before.
The market is packed with tourists just before the arrival time of the train; many are hoping to get the perfect picture and sadly some are not putting any consideration into their safety or the safety of others. Realistically the train is going so slow that most people would have time to move out of the way.
Our recommendation would be to choose a spot where you can sit, get a cold drink and watch the train but even when choosing the perfect observation point someone does come and stand in front of you.
There’s a public restroom where you pay with a coin to enter; the sign says clean toilet but it was nowhere near clean or tidy.
Lots of fresh food and fruits; meats and seafood look like they’re out in the heat with no ice mist of the day.
Most non-food items are repetitive and can be found at all Thai markets.

Great morning out, lots of stalls and trinkets, plan ahead and check the timetable, get there early and find the cafe near the end and sit and have a drink and some food and wait for the train!! And if you drive and park there on the street it cost us 40 Baht and they leave a ticket on your window! (Word of advice take a photo of the ticket up close and of it on your car as when we got back the ticket was missing and they tried to charge us for parking again! But I took the photo and showed them!!!!)

I enjoyed getting outside of Bangkok and the Railway Market showed how people outside of Bangkok live. The train ride was fun and gave a glimpse of how life outside the big city is for the rest of the country. Such humble people that always share a smile.

Due to the high volume of foreigner, the market is pretty overpriced. The tour guides try to encourage you to buy and say that it’s local prices but just be prepared to be overcharged. It’s perfectly fine to try to bargain. You can bargain a 150baht bag to at least 90baht, just be firm. Also, just like most tourist shops, everyone is selling the exact same products so there’s nothing special.
Of course the main attraction is the train going by. It was a lovely experience being up close to the train.
Overall, of course visit to see the opportunity to either ride or see the train.

Thais built their market on almost everything. A market on a train track could be one of the best markets ever. This place is actually the last stop where the train is slowing down towards the end of the track which makes the market possible.
They should build more drinking stalls along the track where people could sit safely and watch the train while drinking.
Other than watching the train, we probably do not care about what they sell, but I found the souvenir sold here is one of the cheapest in Bangkok.
During 11:10am and 14:30pm train arrival timing could be the best period to come.

Come and experience this unique market place with vendors busy on both sides of the railway track, and you will be walking on the track. Interesting to see how fast they remove their merchandise and canopy for the train to pass. Probably this is the most viewed train in the world.

See one of the oldest market in Bangkok, operating on coal-fired train tracks. Enjoy the loud toot toot of incoming trains as you watched immensely the skills of store owners rolling away their tents and keeping away their goods to make way for the train. Good experience!

The famous railroad market. Check the train schedule, and wait for the train to pass by and shopper retract their canopy. It is magical because everyone is excited over it: tourists on the ground, tourists on the train and the cafe operators.

Around 1.5-2 hours away from Bangkok City Centre, both the market and train station are worth visting despite the long travelling time. Not a lot of market allows a train through the heart of it.
Very nice temple area near the river with a lot of ancient statues. A real buddhist temple with real practicing monks which you can feel if you are able to feel :) Anytime a go.

A large market where you can buy everything and you can travel around by boat.

You can walk in for free (no guide). Not really active on weekdays, only the café and the small shop selling sugar remain opened. Hopefully more active on days where workshops take place (sugar making etc.) and on weekends. On the opposite side of the project, there’s a vintage café right next to the floating market also owned by this project.

The project is very impressive. Tour is available upon requests which can accommodate up to 100 people. Fees is approximately 500 THB for one and a half tour including coconut sugar demonstration. Fermented coconut cider vinegar is available for sale. Parking space is limit.
