The ancient mountaintop complex of Phnom Banan boasts sandstone temples, forts and gateways adorned with intricate carvings. Located just half an hour's ride from Battambang, the climb up the moderate stairs is well worth it to witness these 11th century prasats that predate even those at Angkor Wat. The stunning scenery includes a picturesque lake and beautiful flora surrounding the temple ruins.
The small lake before going up to the temple is so beautiful and such a good spot for taking pictures!! The temple with trees, flowers, and clear sky is so amazing. It is not bigger than Ek Phnom but it has its own beauty.

If you are up to climbing up 358 steps, it's not bad up there. A very old temple consisted of 5 towers that are about 800-900 years old. View is nice e as well and you will appreciate the breeze. Get some water, you will need it. Wear trainer shoes as well.

This Temple is about a half hour to ride outside of the city of Battambang. There is moderate stairs to the top but you won't be disappointed as these 11th century prasats predate their cousins from siem reap at Angkor Wat. It's a great little excursion from the city and well worth the price of the ride!

You will get tired from climbing the steps. Bring plenty of water!! There is a temple at the top. There are a lot of wonderful photo opportunities here. You will see lots of damage temples here. Be safe, there are signs there saying a piece of temple might fall on you. At the bottom you can rest and eat.

One of the historical places in Cambodia. 😁😁 This Angkor-era mountaintop temple is definitely worth a look. At the top are beautiful views of the winding Sangker River set amidst sugar palm trees, rice fields and small villages. To the south you will see a mountain range that features a crocodile shaped mountain. The temple itself is beautiful looking from the ground as well as the top. The structures are pretty much intact, but unfortunately like so many Khmer ruins, they have fallen victim to massive looting.

I visited Phnom Banan Temple during Khmer new year 2019 with my uncle. It really beautiful Temple with a very nice landscape around it.
The Ek Phnom Pagoda is an intriguing site located behind a new and ornate modern pagoda. The temple, dating back to the 11th century, is in ruins but still standing with the help of wooden scaffolds. Despite its current state, it holds a certain romantic charm that is enhanced by its lack of tourists during July 2020. Upon arrival, visitors may overlook the massive sitting Buddha statue situated behind a large tree until reaching the parking area.
We enjoyed our visit here as there is an old temple from I think the 1100s. This Temple is not in very good condition but that is what makes it interesting. Take the time and walk through it, its amazing, took lots of pics. There is also a newer temple and a large statue of a huge buddha. Definitely worth visit, I think the cost was a dollar.

It's an interesting place. It's located behind a beautiful new pagoda. If you're coming from Battambang city centre, you will probably miss the huge Buddha until you go into the parking area - the statue is right behind a huge tree. Ek Phnom is a ruin, held up by wooden scaffolds. It's actually quite romantic... and at this time it's virtually tourist free (July 2020)

A nice small temple. Good to stroll around and take some photos. There were not any tourists besides us on this site. Entrance is $1 and going around takes around 15-20 minutes.
Nextdoor one can find a large statue of a buddha.

$1 entry fee. Beware of wasps inside, I got stung and noticed a lot buzzing around. Maybe it’s the time of year? If you’re in battambang and have a motorbike to ride out it’s worth a look.

Beautiful temple to visit to relax and enjoy nature and solitude. There is also a Sak Yant Ashram at the location if you desire a traditional Khmer tattoo.

Not worth the ride
It's a at least 20 to 25 minutes ride from the city center. What you will find is just another old Pagode Ruin
Really nothing special or something to notify.
More like a walk in a park.
1$ entrance fee

Probably a really cool tempel, if we were allowed to just go in it. We were greeted and they immediately wanted money of us for entree. After asking if the locals also need to pay, they said no. When I asked them to explain why they didn't have an answer for us. We just headed back because we didn't want to deal with being treated different because of our origin.

1$ for foreigner. Temple that allowed you to climb up. If you're coming to Angkor Wat, you could skip this place as this is just one of the 'temple' inside Angkor thom.

Nice trip from Battambang through cute villages. The place itself is quite interesting although the ruins are not maintained at all and will probably be gone in a few years hence the 3 stars. There's an entry fee but I'm guessing it's used for the temple and not for the ruins. The temple has a sort of comic strip around it, which is quite fun to read.
We took the ferry from Siem Reap to Battambang. A very nice way (but not very comfortable) to combine transport and sightseeing. It toon us 6.5 hours. Mostly cruising the river with the busy life of the floating villages and friendly waving locals. The boat does look different than on the website😏. It is very noisy so take earplugs. There is a simple toilet and they stop at a floating shop half way for 20 minutes if you fancy fried Rice.. ticket 30 usd and sometimes they can puck you up at your hotel.

Do NOT take this boat !
I with 18 other poor tourists ( some of a mature age) after the boat broke down over half way on the trip as it struggled to get through very shallow water ( some people got out and tried to push it away from the muddy banks.
We where thrown off the boat in the heat and had to walk for over an hour and a half through fields, carrying out luggage! Some elderly people clearly couldn't manage, younger passengers helped.
We were finally met by a couple of beaten ups taxis, which were extremely grateful. It was a horrendous ordeal! We weren't offered any water or any compensation or acknowledgement of what we had been through!
At $30 per person, 18 on the boat.... do the maths! Someone is taking the p*** big time.
I'm only grateful that I survived it!
12 hours later I arrived at my hotel!

It really is fraude! Bought sleeping bus from Siem Reap to Bkk which was meant to leave at 2am and arrive at 10am. At 2am a sleeping bus came to pick us up, but it was only for 3h, it then dropped us to the border 30 minutes before the boarder check was even open. 1 hour later, after all the passport check was done we had to look for the same company ok the other side of the border to get us to bkk as the sleeping bus was long gone. We then ended up in a little bus to bkk which was anything but what we paid for.
Sleepless night and poor service! Hope you read this before booking anything with them.

Echo what everyone else has said. Wish I read these before travelling. It too us 11 hours door to door between BB and SR and cost $30 for first transfer and boat trip. They dropped us off 39 minutes away from SR and we had to take the tuk tuks available. They started at $8 each but when we complained dropped to $6 each. Just be aware before you book. It is a long and uncomfortable trip. The scenery is lovely but only for the first couple of hours. Then it becomess boring.
Mary Clarkson — Google review
The boat is different than that pictures on promotional material. The boat trip is very long, uncomfortable, and loud.
Bring some cushions to put on the seats, and also ear plugs to dampen the sound of the engine.
The trip was an experience, but it's not a viable form of transport if you are assessing pure practicality.
Michael Stokes — Google review
Attention fraud! you get thrown off the boat 20km from Siem Reap in no man's land. Everything arranged. tuk tuk drivers are waiting on site and charge $5 per person to be taken to Siem reap. there are no other ways to get there. There is also no internet to call a vehicle with the Pass app. The boat it also not the same like on the picture.
aiken altmann — Google review
It was a good way of getting close to the floating villages AND getting from Siem Reap to Battambang. It took us close to 9h in end of February 2020 due to dry season and we couldn't reach Battambang but stopped before it. No aircondition but airstream from boat speed (23km/h max). Boat had sun roof and a small hole-in-the-flor toilet. No drinks provided on board.
If you are looking for "local-kind-of-adventure" this is EXACTLY your thing. If not go by bus.
Startet at ~7am in Siem Reap by getting picked up at the hotel with a pick up truck (with what else?! 😁😁 )
Drove probably 40min to an harbor outside of Siem (at Siem Reap River). Went over the TonleSap to Sangker River. Lots of floating villages on this riverside. Nice to watch. 👍😎
Had "lunch" at 12 in boat stop. You might want to bring your own lunch.
After the lunch break the rivers gotten thiner and driving was not easy anymore. Jurney got a bit boring.
Reached a place close to Battambang finally at ~4pm. There a tuktuk has to be taken and paid to get to your hotel (paid 5$).
Schorsch Super — Google review
For me it is fraud!
I bought tickets from Battambang to Siem Reap. But, the driver stopped about 20km before Siem Reap, everyone had to get out and walk to the already waiting tuk tuks. For an inflated price you have to be driven into town for another $5. So in total I paid 35 euros for 6,5 hours on a small boat on which you can not move, with a short stopover and with fraud later.
Iona Langhans — Google review
Can only echo what other reviewers are saying! The journey itself was really enjoyable and felt like a good adventure - would rate that part 5 stars (other than the fact your bum gets quite sore as the seats are not well padded). However it was already a pricey mode of transport at $30 each, but we decided worth a punt for the fun factor, but then when the boat rocks up 45 minutes away from Siem Reap and you find out the tuk tuks are all charging the same amount - $8 per person - and no more than 2-3 people allowed in one tuk tuk ‘because of the weight with your luggage’! You’re stuffed as there is no internet or signal so you have no choice but to cough up - a sorry sting at the end of a fun day, a real shame. If we had been told in advance by our hotel, we could have at least tried to make an informed decision but it felt like a deliberate ploy. Overall the journey took 8 hours by boat, 9 including the tuk tuk part at the end.
Great experiences exploring the house aged more than 100 years ago. The owners are friendly. The house is still in well conditions like new. I love the fact that big trees around the house provide shades to visitors who come here.
Sophea Tieng — Google review
I was kindly shown around individually by the owner to save me waiting for 40 minutes for the next group to arrive. It cost $2 which I thought was reasonable. It took about 20 minutes to tell me about the place and then I was free to wander around on my own and take photos. I was not pressured into buying any souvenirs. The house is old and was built in 1920 so we would not call it ancient; something slightly amiss with the translation. It was interesting but do not make it a priority. Fit it in if you have nothing else to see.

This ancient house is in one of Khmer characteristic styles. It is basically wooden and stucco. The house is almost 100 years old dated to French colony. It's public and welcome to visitors everyday. People are still living in the house where some structure was renovated.

Vila Hang — Google review
+ The house is extremely old, yet magnificent, and it's a real chance to be able to visit such a beautiful architecture, filled with ancient artefacts.
- The unpleasant part was the way we were absolutely rushed through a mechanical 7 minutes top visit (with absolutely no other visitor around), and given a presentation uttered robot like, emotionless. We weren't authorised to take photos while the woman was talking, and ordered to do so after she would be done. I'm not sure we saw the whole house, as there are pics of an ancient bed in the previous reviews, that never appeared while visiting. I bought a small Khmer scarf in the shop section for my son, so maybe that's why we weren't asked the 2 dollars previous reviews mention as a "mandatory fee".
Overall and even though the visit could be rushed, I would still recommend it for the sake of this well preserved traditional rich Khmer house. But how wonderful it would be to feel that the guide was actually pleased to share its History...
Gabrielle Nguyen — Google review
The owners are really nice and they describe briefly about the history of the house really well. The entrance is free, but you can buy some souvenirs or donate to support them. I am really interesting in their old furnitures.
Sann Chhengly — Google review
This “free” tour consisted of being insulted for 20 minutes, told I don’t know anything, my country taught us lies etc. mixed with some information about the house and family. The tour guide/owner of the house proceded to insult United States, Europe, Australia and and every Asian county except Mongolia. The entire experience was unpleasant and ended with you being pretty much told to buy something and as you go to leave he says wait you need to pay the mandatory donation admission fee and he gives you a donation slip to write down personal information about yourself. I paid the “mandatory” donation and when I wouldn’t put my personal info in his book he became quite agitated where I felt nervous. I would definitely not recommend going to this out of the way tourist trap. The pics you see on google are pretty much what’s there.

This place is special for many reasons. Amongst those are the ancient kitchenery from the 1900s and it's history along with Khmer livelihood then. It's recommended to book your visit first for arrangement purpose due to old house safety visit and more indepth guidance from the care takers. They offers English, French tour or might be more. While visiting there, you can also help buy souvenirs from different humanitarian NGOs. There's certain rules you have to follow as well. Please kindly make some contribution to help the services going even stronger and it'll be a great encouragement for the beautiful soul caretakers over there for their heartwarming services and love for Khmer culture conservation. You can find their contact on Google for reservations and more info.

Battambang Crocodile Farm is a secure environment where visitors can get up close with crocodiles of various sizes. The farm even has baby crocs that children can touch and feel their skin. A girl was thrilled to catch one in her hands and learned not to scare animals unnecessarily. While it's important to be aware of the danger of approaching large crocs, this well-organized farm offers an entertaining and educational experience for everyone.

You can get on top of a tall wall and walk on the wall watching the crocodiles down there.
However, there is not safety net or fence. I see a bit of a safety risk.

An interesting experience to see how they keep and grow crocs for commercial sale. Elevated walkways had me slightly worried about toppling over the handrails into the enclosures, and wondering if the larger specimens could actually climb up. Not a huge place and I had finished in 10 minutes.

Took the kids here today and had the place to ourselves. Was concerned after reading other reviews that the owners English wasn't great.... But had no issues in communication. Plenty of crocs! Even got to hold some babies. So cheap for such a hands on experience. Would definitely recommend

This place is mental, when we arrived we didn't expect this many crocs. Being this close to them and feeling as frightened as we were haha, super fun! $2 entree, $3 if you want to hold a baby croc. Only downside is that you're not really able to communicate with the owners so any questions you have can't be answered. Overall a really fun experience :)

They even have a baby crocs for the small children to touch and feel the skin. My daughter was allowed to catch one of them in her hands and she was so proud of it after all.
It’s important to let her know the danger of getting close to the big croc, but at the mean time, she learned not to scare things while it’s not necessary.

I honestly don’t understand how people give such a place good ratings. This is an absolute nightmare regarding animal welfare. And all the photos here show the crocodiles with cut off tails.

Wow so many crocodiles and you get to hold a baby one. Had a lovely thrilling time for $2. You also get to walk around on yourself but there's a lot of sections with only one side of the rail so not for children or anyone with balance problems. One of my favorite pagoda/temple complexes in Battambang. It is a quiet oasis near the centre of the city. It features a variety of unique statuary, some quite obvious in meaning, and others based on stories of which I am unaware. In the monks' housing area, there is a very nice drink shop and garden/cemetery area. The entrance of the Angkor Comfort Hotel side is especially impressive with a stupa built in almost lego-block style and a hidden area of statuary among jackfruit trees.
The perfect temple complex for exploration and photo taking in the downtown area.

Nous avons adoré, nous y sommes retournés pour y choisir les toiles que nous accrocherons avec bonheur chez nous.

(Translated by Google) A talented artist to encourage. His watercolors perfectly capture the atmosphere of the scenes of life in Battambang but also in the temples of Angkor.
The formats are easy to transport in rolls and the packaging is very clever.
Bravo to Tep kao Sol trained by the NGO PHARE PONLEU of Battambang

A very nice little museum explains how Cambodia has learned from it's past and tells the stories of the people that have emerged to spread peace throughout Cambodia and the world. Very touching.

A well thought out and curated museum that helps anyone--local or foreigner better understand the history of Cambodia, how far it has come since its more turbulent days and what has to be done to ensure Cambodia holds strong to its beautiful character as it looks to the future. The space is stunning. The open layout of the museum and its Cambodian architecture enhances the experience. I was very impressed by the museum. Well done!

If I could, I'd give it 6 stars.
One of the few museums that talk about what happened in Cambodia after the Khmer Rouge.
Poignant choice of materials, especially the photos of the young boys and girls practicing traditional dance and music in the refugee camps, the peace walks, the Cambodian women who participated in UN peacekeeping operations in South Sudan, and more.
The museum doesn't have a ticket fee and I think it's a shame. It's well worth of a ticket fee and I hope this amazing place remains open.
It's also set in 3 buildings in beautifully curated grounds. More people should visit this place, it's a credit to Cambodia ❤️

We heard it was free. Upon arrival we saw several signs saying entrance fee is $5. A4 paper signs so it must be very recent a change. We didn't pay and drove away.

Amazing project and great execution. The history of Cambodia is rooted in pain yet there is more to it than war. This museum focuses on recovery and the engagement of Cambodians in peace efforts throughout the world. Do not miss it!

The management of CPCS may already do it. Otherwise, please include CPCS as part of tour package in Battambang for both local and foreign tourists. Also, please put in the info brochure of Prov. Dept. of Tourism. Blessings to everyone at CPCS. Thanks.

Interesting place with good signs in English and Cambodian. I didn't see a single other person there when I was there on 9 Jan 2023 - no staff, no visitors. But everything was open. I recommend if you are nearby but probably not a destination.

It is the only one museum that shows about Cambodia Journey from War toward Peace and Positive future. Don't miss it! come and learn about peace process in Cambodia.

Much could be learned by current politicians in the US,US, POLAND, FRANCE,AUSTRALIA,ISRAEL, Palestine Saudi Arabia, Gabon, Cameroon, SudN,Lebanon,Syria,Italy or in fact any country hell- bent on stressing differences and distinctions between people to promote their own success. The. Real problem is no- one is learning from recent history.... Gandhi was right when he said Western Civilisation would be a very good thing! The world is far too selfish and this ideology must become reviled....

A very nice exhibition about the war history of Cambodia, but mostly about the resilience of the people and the way they help others with their strenght.

A really interesting and informative museum and a refreshing change from learning about Khmer Rouge rule in Cambodian history. The museum is really informative and talks about the UN peace mission in Cambodia. More information about in what ways it was not so successful might be included, however the staff were really knowledgeable and eager to discuss ideas. One even brought me a mug of cold water to sip whilst reading. Definitely worth a visit if you're interested in history and international relations!

interesting market and we can buy some natural foods

Selling everyday goods and variety of local food, especially jewelry; almost 40% of the market space I think. I did enjoy strolling around the market watching locals spending their days while waiting for the bus departure nearby.

Nice local market. You can find all the types of fruits. You have to be careful though because the locals ask from the foreigners higher prices.

If you want to experience a local vibe you should definitely visit the street/central market. Do NOT be afraid to haggle with people, it is very normal and honestly weird if you don't. Just be sure to learn what the currency is like when it comes to proper spending and tipping. Remember, you are in a foreign country so expect things to be VERY different. I am Cambodian so it was easier for me to figure things out because I could speak and understand. Also, be ready to be swarmed with locals who are in need because you look like a tourist. It's not th2 worst but can be overwhelming when it comes to very touristy areas

Without this Central Market, locally known as Psar Nat, Battambang town seems to be lifeless! Architectural and structural design of the market building is an invaluable heritage of the colonial time.
Women sustain Battambang town-ers!! So thankful and appreciative of these grandmas, mothers, daughters, wives and sisters! God bless everyone of them and their families. God bless Battambang. Amen.

Authentic local market, selling everything from fresh fish, meat & vegetables, souvenirs, local & knock off clothes & bags, shoes, you name it, you will probably find it here. A real local experience & well worth a visit

Small central market with a nice food/ingredients market on one side. The inside part is mainly for clothes and home utilities.
Lea Venet — Google review
The biggest local market where you can find everything here food, fruits , vegetable, meats, snacks, jewelry, souvenirs, salons, dress makers…
In the evening there are many food stands around the market.
Puthyka Ho — Google review
Vibrant place where you can buy everything from vegetables and fruits over clothes, jewelery and electronic devices of all kind. Definetly a place to experience as a foreigner in Battambang. The prepared food is tasty but can be dangerous for the delicate western stomach.

Nice historical place, having a cheap delicious Mi Keav here.

Big central market with just about everything inside. However, it is VERY dirty, rats are running between the stalls. A few local breakfast options at the entrance (Khmer food), but I do not advise to eat in the market as it really looks very dirty and no hygiene. Appalling. Markets look so much more appealing in Thailande.
Many stalls sell clothes, fabric, kitchenware and whatever.

Local food markets with moderate higher price compared to other local market in Battambang.
The National Museum is a simple exhibition of artwork and historical artifacts, such as earthenware, sandstone sculptures, and figurines. The collection is presented without any embellishments or unnecessary decorations. This museum aims to provide an unadorned portrayal of the country's cultural heritage through its displays of ancient relics and artistic works. Visitors can observe various pieces from different periods in history without encountering too much repetition in the descriptions or explanations provided.
Of course, it's not that many status or fancy as in Siem Reap or Phnom Penh but it is a nice building with an appropriate price. It will be the currency museum near here in the future too. Pls stay tuned.

$1 entry fee. A nice, small museum with a selection of artifacts and stone carvings from the neolithic period onwards. The English translations were very good as well!
Depending on how much you want to read you could spend between 10 mins and 45 mins here.

The National Museum is worth a quick visit if you have some spare time. It’s quite small so it shouldn’t take too long to look around.

This place is super cool if you want to dive down into the history. It does not requires any entrance fee, but donation is appreciated. And you have to fill up your job and the date you come in into a book, and you're permitted to roam and enjoy the ancient history inside.

This is the first time that I brought my kids to visit Battambang museum. I like the way they preserve the ancient and historical items. They are very valuable. I think we should promote this to the world to know our nation. Happy weekend!

This museum is under construction and is due for completion in a couple of months. What they've done, until then, is simply shove all the exhibits into an old building. No order, no information. Lots of empty cabinets. They've even freshly damages some of the lintels. They could very easily put some information up but this feels in no way curated. We happened to know about the different Hindu and Buddhist pieces already but if you didn't have an appreciation of this before walking in you would feel totally lost. There is a big pile of junk taking up half of the exhibit space. Until they finish the main museum upgrade, don't bother with this place. Once the museum is finished, I'm sure it will improve. The pieces they have displayed have a lot of potential to make an informative experience.
