Ok tour. Staff were professional and helpful. The tour is restricted to a small part of the building and you do not actually get to see much inside. The guided tour demonstrates how to use the various info displays and then you get about a half hour to explore on your own before you're ushered out. There is a lot of info in the form of videos and text but nothing too special. You get a small cheap prize for leaving a review which I now understand is why there are so many 5 stars here. Neat to visit for its importance but cannot really recommend to go out of your way to see.

Hsinchu, also known as Big City, is a bustling hub in the heart of the city. This eight-level mall offers a diverse range of shops and restaurants, including luxury stores, home furnishings, clothing outlets, electronics shops, a movie theater, and grocery stores. Visitors are advised to allocate plenty of time for exploration as 1-2 hours may not suffice. Comfortable footwear is recommended due to the vast area to cover.
Should be the biggest Mall in the Hsinchu and at least one of the largest Mall in Taiwan.
It has everything.
2 supermarkets located at the basement.
Tom's world and cinema located at the top part of the Mall.
The foodcourts also sells a lot of variety of food.
I think it wil take at least 0.5 day to complete viewing the whole Mall

Good for walking, taking some photos, hanging out with friends and for window shopping 😁
there's also a live band last Sunday .
took only 15 minutes walking from Hsinchu train station.

Very big and spacious, and very comfortable to go about shopping compared to malls in Taipei. There are all ranges (price) of cloths, foods, ice cream and even some fun activities on the top floor to go about like dart, baseball, bowling, arcades.
Parking is not easy around here.
Environment is pretty good.

Really clean mall with great food options. Tons of shopping choices. Kids play area on the 8th floor along with Tom's world arcade. Super packed on weekends though!

A crazy big mall with 8 different levels of shopping! There is even an official Snoopy store. 😍 The food court is massive and has so many food options.
The unique thing about this mall is that they ask you for your car license plate when you purchase anything in the mall as that will help waive the car parking fee. The more you spend, the more likely the parking fee is waived.

This mall has everything for the entire family of all ages. Review written in July 2023. There is an entire Soho department store (closed the one next to train station), Family Mart in B1 (don't need to walk across the street to 7-11) two separate north face stores, a north face in the department store, a grocery store, luxury brands, and any brand you can think of. No GAP, have to go to FE21 on Xida Road. First floor in Sogo also has currency conversion services and stroller rental. Spend $10,000 NTD and you get five hours of free parking. Parking is cash only and no tickets, your license plate is scanned. Parking garage will get full early (mall opens at 11, Starbucks opens at 9) so be patient when trying to park in the garage. $350 NT haircuts in B1, massive food court with 70 options on the fourth floor, movie theater also on the fourth floor featuring Western and Asian movies. Pokemon machines on floor five and floor eight next to Toys R Us. Seventh floor has sit down style restaurants and the eighth floor contains an arcade (Tom's World), bowling alley, batting cages and even more restaurants. Sixth floor has a gym. The hotel next door was converted to expand the size of the mall. This mall is the largest in northern Taiwan and features more than 3 million square feet. Half of Hsinchu is here on weekends. Wear comfy shoes. A must see.

This is one of the most incredible malls I have ever been to. By far the biggest around. 8 floors of shopping and eating. I suggest that if you are in the Hsinchu area, that you take a day and go visit this place. Absolutely amazing to say the least.

Located in the heart of hsinchu city. Big city is the biggest mall with 8 levels of shops and restaurants.
Ranging from luxury, home furniture, clothings, electrical appliances, movie theatre, grocery and many others.
Please prepare ample time to walk as 1-2 hours may not be enough. You will need a good pair of shoes even though there’s many seating areas on different level. You may get lost at this place!
Tax refund is available here at the information counter for spending more than $2000NT. You get cash immediately for tax refund.
The Hsinchu City God Temple is a bustling complex established in 1747, showcasing revered relics and offering authentic cuisine from local vendors. During the New Year festivities, it becomes an attraction for visitors to pay their respects and make offerings. The atmosphere is enhanced by the fragrant smoke of incense but may prove challenging for those sensitive to it. Overall, this traditional Taiwanese site is a must-visit to experience the culture and customs of Hsinchu.
what an interesting place! This is the beginning of my journey in Hsinchu. Closed by the temple, there are fascinating people that cook noodle for us in their stall :)

Hsinchu City God Temple (Cheng Huang Temple) is regarded as the highest-ranking of all City God temples in Taiwan, due to the superior spiritual power of its City God in protecting the town.
In front of the temple is a market with a lot of small stalls selling delicious taiwanese snacks, including rice noodles, meat balls, thick cuttlefish broth, and Zhuqian Biscuit (Zhuqian is the original name of Hsinchu). What a peace serenity within bustle of the city

What an interesting place! Very busy, lively and vibrant. The temple is found amidst foodstalls, hidden away from the outside roads. Easy to navigate but intriguing in its design and atmosphere. There was a religious ceremony in process when I was there so I couldn't enter the inside of the temple, but it was fascinating to watch.

The Hsinchu God Temple on New Year's Day was extremely busy and crowded. There were a lot of people there to pray and make offerings, which made it difficult to move around. The smoke from incense added to the festive atmosphere, but also made it a bit overwhelming for those sensitive to smoke. Overall, the temple is a must-visit during the New Year celebrations and is a great place to experience traditional Taiwanese culture.

Hsinchu (新竹市) is a city in northern Taiwan populated by an overwhelming majority of the Hakkas . It is southwest of the capital city of Taipei. Hsinchu is nicknamed "The Windy City" for its windy climate. Hsinchu's Cheng Huang Temple (a.k.a. Chenghuang Temple of Hsinchu 新竹城隍廟) is rated as the highest-ranking City God temples in all of Taiwan. We ate here en route to 清境农场 (Cingjing a.k.a. Qingjing Farm). Lunch venue was at this shop" 王家蚵仔煎" located in the vicinity of Hsinchu's City God Temple inside sort of an alleyway lined with food stalls selling the city's all-time favourite and old-time flavours such as Hsinchu rice vermicelli (新竹米粉), fish balls and pork balls (魚丸, 贡丸). The duck egg pancakes sold along the streets were also delicious. We bought 4 pieces for NT$30. The jam is home-made; there's chocolate, custard, lemon, red bean and plain as filling options for those pancakes.

What a surreal experience. Bounds of people come here at all hours of every day to pray and place incense. This temple is beautiful and has a lot of history. There is a nearby market so you can enjoy authentic Taiwanese cuisine at extremely low prices. But it's all in Chinese so be ready to make some guesses. Thanks for a wonderful time!

Do you enjoy strolling along the ocean? Do you love seafood ? If you're looking for a place to spend your lovely weekend in the afternoon, then I highly recommend the Nanliao Fishery Harbor. If you love seafood you must go there, in the fish market, in the market you can shop for any ingredients you need for dinner. You don't feel like to cook for dinner tonight? Lucky you! There are numbers of restaurants that serves seafood in the second floor!
You think the harbor is so boring, and it's only for people who loves seafood? Then you're wrong! Beside the harbor, there's a large square where people usually fly their kites. You can see different kinds of kites flying in the sky, thanks to the strong wind, this place is a paradise for kite lovers. If you're a bike lover, you can also enjoy your ride along the coastline, and it's not far from the 17 Kilometers Splendid Coastline Cycling Path.
What are you waiting for! Go and enjoy your afternoon!
The 19-hectare grassland is a popular park in the area, offering vast open spaces for outdoor activities such as picnics, kite flying, and ball games. The park features beautifully maintained trails, hillside slides for children, pavilions, and clean public toilets. Limited parking is available on the street but can be secured by paying NTD100 to park on some areas of grass. A few vendors sell typical snacks including sausages and ice-cream.
Great place for the whole family and pets to have a walk and enjoy the scenery. Kids can enjoy the long slides and other playground fixtures.

I simply love this place, it's the best place for relaxation of mind, body and soul. I feel recharged whenever I being here.
Vincent Teng — Google review
It was freezing cold when we went but there were still happy kids on the slide and some people out doing exercise walking on the path.
The slides are down a small hill which is very popular with the kids and give them a great workout running back up for another go.
The paths are nicely paved but unfortunately don’t seem to loop around so you end up having to go back and forth on the same road. The trees and trails and little ponds are nicely kept and look relatively new.
There’s a good sized grass patch for kite flying and simple toilets nearby. There is no toilet paper provided so bring your own.
I didn’t walk all of it but there were tranquil seating spaces just off the path and the trees provide a measure of shelter from the wind blasting up the valley.
We saw an interesting sign indicating that the climate here is different due to the moisture and the vegetation is more similar to that of a rain forest.
There isn’t much parking and big vehicles may struggle up the narrow uphill road. There isn’t much space to turn around.
A few stands near the car park sell kites and perhaps other things though they weren’t open today.

Parking on the street is limited, but you can pay NTD100 for parking on some grass. There are a few vendors selling typical snacks (sausages, ice-cream). There are a lot of people, but the space is well maintained and people are really great. Bathrooms are clean. A great place to bring a ball/kite/bubble gun and children.
Michelle Goffinet — Google review
A spacious solace of greenery away from the ugly main city center. There are quiet paths to walk on a weekend. It's a nice retreat that doesn't cost a thing. You can even fly a kite here. Be warned if you're a woman though: they don't supply toilet paper in the bathrooms.

Nice place to go to watch sunset
Wetlands are land between land and water that is permanently or intermittently inundated by water, and there are various definitions and classifications. Wetlands have long been viewed as areas of insignificance and no practical value. People often construct land for agriculture, fishery or industry by filling or draining water, or use wetlands as waste dumping sites, causing irreversible damage to the environment.
According to the international Ramsar Convention (Ramsar Convention, 1971), wetlands are defined as "areas consisting of swamps, swamps, peatlands or waters, whether natural or man-made, permanent or temporary, static or flowing, fresh or salty , including sea areas with a water depth of less than six meters at low tide." Obviously, this definition is very broad, including "inland wetlands" and "coastal wetlands". In addition, three commonly used criteria in the United States are: (1) there must be dominant water plants; (2) the soil must be watered at a certain depth below the topsoil; or (3) it must be watered for a minimum period or frequency. Flooded or soil saturated with water.

It is also a look of history in a nutshell.. I would start the visit with a look of the Hsinchu city map dotted with lights each marking a military village! They are filling the whole city! And not limited by the air forces at all.. They are all branches of the military services in order to protect Taiwan from military attacks! Former Residence of Principal Hsin Chih-Ping / TAIVII is a charming bistro that was once the home of a renowned school principal. The establishment boasts an impressive collection of historical artifacts and doubles as a café. The owner has an extensive selection of wine and liquor available, and the menu features dishes such as fried tenderloin, seafood and squash rice noodles, roasted threadfin, soy sauce-braised chicken with chestnuts, season vegetables, and various side plates.

this is a cozy and decent bistro. The owner has plenty of wine/liquor options. I ordered fried tenderloin, seafood/squash rice noodles(w/soup), roasted threadfin, soy source braised chicken/chestnut, season vegetables and two plates of side dishes. most of them are really tasty. However, these food may be more suitable with drinks. A little bit salty to me. The major downside is restroom. It is separated from main building and you have to share slippers with all guests. Besides, a bad smell comes somewhere in this area. it should be a better way to decorate this part.

The historical building was beautifully renovated and decorated. The landscape and interior were amazing. Staff was nice and attentive. I wish the food tasted better though. I ordered chilly chicken rice. Chicken was way too salty and spicy. Rice wasn’t cooked in the most proper way. The side dish on the contrary, had no flavor at all and tasted very raw..

Well, lucky us, we were here today to tour (my Senior High School). Principal Hsin’s residence. It’s a well kept and maintained Japanese House. There are a lot of displays and videos to remind my good old seniors high school era. Principal Hsin believed it’s teachers’ responsibility if students skip classes (because teachers did. It teach well to attract students to go to classes). Back then, the most important task for Senior High School students was the annual college entrance exam. Thus a lot of schools totally ignored courses such as music, painting, physical education such as swimming and running (mountain running). Hsin Chu Senior High was known for flunking music course. Students need to swim 50 meters and mountain running to graduate. Well, so much memories.
Anyway, we also went to Sauté restaurant to grab a bite with very zen atmosphere. Moreover, we were lucky to shop around the Sunday afternoon market surrounding the house.

Lovely historical Japanese-style buildings in the middle of Hsinchu. Staff were helpful. At the front is the school principal's residence with central living area and moveable screens to change the layout of the house.
There's a cafe in the building at the back. Service was rather slow. The hot and cold drinks were good (with a similar menu to other local cafes), but you pay a bit above par. There's a squat toilet at the cafe and you have to take your shoes off inside both buildings. The cafe seems to be favoured by students studying. Quiet ambience with a record player on repeat providing the music. Highly recommended for a change of atmosphere while visiting Hsinchu.

As for the gate itself, it’s a lovely historic building that you can walk around outside and take pictures of. It was made in 1827 and is the only one remaining in Hsinchu. It’s nice but previously not worth making a special trip to visit from elsewhere. Hsinchu City Cultural Affairs Bureau have some good background information on it and other historic places in the city.

Usually a place where a Filipino go for pageant practice because of the mirror along its way. Very hot during summer and no cover but in the afternoon it's was awesome to do some dance activity or whatever you like. Many people Usually here

Nice place to drop by if you're nearby. There is a large underpass where teenagers practice dancing at night, complete with sockets for public use. You can cross the massive roundabout using the underpass instead of having to battle the cars and scooters. A neat historic monument to check out.

I like this place, from the photo there's a cheap steak house just above the Giordano store. So many food to choose from, my only complaint is that it has so small room and few table good for couple, and 4-6 group of people. During peak hours you have to wait because theres a long qeue.

I was on a business trip and this was very close to my hotel. Located on a roundabout but sunk into the ground, it was once the entrance to the city.

An old city gate inside a busy roundabout. One of the must-see places in Hsinchu City.

(Translated by Google) I took advantage of my weekend break to go to the Yanbo Hotel in Hsinchu, not far from Taipei, for a short vacation. There happened to be a Ubike available for rent next to the hotel, so I decided to ride around the lake to enjoy a pleasant afternoon (Qingcao Lake is right near the hotel), and the breeze blew slowly. Very cool. The calm lake surface makes me feel peaceful and comfortable in a noisy city life!

The tourist attraction known as "海天一線看海區" is a popular seaside promenade that offers scenic views of the water and beautiful sunsets. It is also a great spot for biking, walking, and photography. The area has a raised viewing platform above the 17km coastal path and near the modern incinerator with facilities limited to just toilets.
It’s amazing that we have such a beautiful place in Taiwan, and just 20min to drive there!!!
Not crowded at all, you can ride a bike here and enjoy the wind and ocean view. You can also find stunning sunset scene if you are lucky.

We spent a busy holiday at Nan Liao just south of the harbor. Lots of bikes and electric bicycle rickshaws to dodge if on foot. The wind was very strong from the NE so save energy for fighting it when you turn around to head back. Still good fun for the whole family. Of course, the sea was beautiful with white caps and waves. We loved it!

This is a raised viewing area above the 17km coastal path and next to the modern incinerator. Facilities are a toilet and that’s about it. It used to be nicer and have a coffee shop but that’s long gone and the maintenance seems to have been reduced. It’s still a good spot to watch the sunset and let’s you see over the currently closed part of the path. Personally I recommend walking down the rough track to the path itself and photographing from there.

Coastline of Hsinchu where a pavement is built for recreational and sight-seeing purposes. Bicycles with or without motor can be rented in Nanliao(南寮) village at a fair price. The view is GREAT! Spectacular view of the Taiwanese strait sits below the horizon where the sky fills the upper part, and would recommend you to check out the romantic sunset. Strong winds blew across the land so be extra careful of your belongings. The pavement is 17km long, accompanied with different attractions just within kilometres, so get prepared to challenge this amazing site.

Absolutely breathtaking views. We came specifically for the trail next to the ocean and we spent close to an hour biking. There's lots of bike rental places in the area, you can get single or even four person bikes some with electric assist if you have a small family. But I recommend bringing your own.
There are tons of little tourist traps in the area with amazingly fresh seafood. The vendors in the area are surprisingly reasonable with their prices.
It looks like a good place to go fishing too. We saw lots of fishermen along the whole way. However, I can't speak from personal experience!
One of the tourist centers has a really nice public restroom, and there are some cool iconic destinations all along the coast.
This is my second day trip to the beach, and I still feel like there's a lot more to explore! I will definitely be returning with my family!
