Nonhoi Park, Toyohashi Zoo and Botanical Park is a fantastic destination for a fun-filled day out. This urban green space boasts animal enclosures, life-sized dinosaur models, beautiful rose gardens and thrilling water rides. Whether you want to explore the zoo, learn at the museum or admire the botanical garden, there's something for everyone. The park is well-maintained with enchanting gardens that provide an awesome experience for visitors of all ages.
Excellent park and Zoo. Recommended as a visit when coming to Toyohashi. You can feed the fish, goats, ducks, and capybara for a small fee (100-200 yen)

Fees: 600 yen for adult. Annual passport available for 2000 yen.
The zoo is very large and has sprawling gardens in it. The amusement park is for kids.

Okay so Toyohashi is a little town. So you rarely find a nice place to hang out or even take friends when they come to visit. But the city has one nice park to boast of. That is Nonhoi zoo. This place is lovely. I have been here twice and both times I really enjoyed myself. Most people think Zoos are for kids but this place is definitely for anyone who loves animals and wants to have a good time. They not only have land animals but Sea animals in a big aquarium. They have a dinosaur themed park that’s almost like a small dino museum. Also they have the most beautiful flower park. I recommend visiting this in spring or fall. And they have a theme park with rollercoasters and other rides( not so big but fun) .
There is also a go kart racing track for all you car lovers.
Total recommend

I was there on May 4, 2023.
It's a vast area that combines a zoo, botanical garden, museum, and amusement park. I explored the zoo and museum during my visit. The zoo is large and spacious, but it lacks an adequate number of wild animals, especially tigers. There were no tigers to be seen, and the size of the lions was only slightly larger than that of a big dog, which was disappointing. However, I highly recommend visiting the zoo to witness the main attractions, such as penguins and seals. I thoroughly enjoyed their show. Although I had hoped to see a polar bear, it was not present. I might have overlooked the snake enclosure as I didn't come across any spaces dedicated to them.
There is a large parking area available inside the premises for 400 yen, but I'm unsure about the duration of its usage. You are allowed to bring your own food and drinks to the area. I recommend bringing them along, as it is a considerably spacious place.

The Toyohashi City Futagawa-Shuku Honjin Museum is a renovated old inn located on the Tokaido Road, which connected Edo and Kyoto during feudal Japan. The museum showcases the constant travel of the nobility under Tokugawa rule in the Edo period, featuring inner gardens, rooms, bathrooms, toilets and kitchens for both noble men and women as well as their servants. Visitors can also view woodblock prints and manuscripts documenting travel on the Tokaido.

また、昔のおもちゃや版画、クイズすごろくなどもあり、小学生位の子どもなら楽しめると思います。

Advance tickets (¥320) are also available, so if you are planning to visit, we recommend purchasing advance tickets at least one day in advance.
At the museum, you can learn about the history of Futagawa-shuku and the travelers of the time.
There are also old toys, prints, quizzes, and more, which I think elementary school age children will enjoy.
The main building and inn are buildings that are over 200 years old and have been beautifully preserved and maintained, which is amazing.
At Honjin, you can enjoy matcha for ¥300.
I visited on a Sunday afternoon, and there were only a few visitors.

This renovated old relay « honjin »on the Tokaidō route is worth the visit. It is nowadays an interesting folklore museum on the constant travel obligation of the nobility under the Tokugawa rule in the Edo period.
You can see the inner gardens, the rooms, bathrooms, toilets and kitchen for the noble men and women as well as the quarters for their servants, very different indeed in confort levels.
There are also many woodblock prints and manuscripts documenting the travel on the Tokaidō. Some comments are provided in English, useful for non-fluent Japanese readers like me.

The Yoshida Castle Kurogane Yagura is a 16th-century castle ruin that used to belong to a feudal lord. It features a turret and houses a museum, albeit not well-maintained. While the entrance is free, some suggest that implementing an entrance fee could help with upkeep. Nonetheless, the castle's original or rebuilt structure makes for an interesting visit, and provides stunning views of the river from its top.

The Toyohashi Museum of Natural History is a museum that displays various dinosaur skeletons, fossils, and models. It also has a 3D theatre for films. The facility is well-maintained and COVID-proof. However, visitors are not allowed to eat or drink inside the premises. One interesting fact about the museum is that it showcases a new species of Mikawa salamander discovered in 2017.
There were many specimens on display. There were many ways for children to enjoy themselves. The entrance and exit of the restroom was a little narrow, but it could not be helped since it was not a new facility. This facility was COVID proof. The Toyohashi City Art Museum showcases artworks and crafts from the Toyohashi region, along with a global cafe. The museum boasts impressive craftsmanship and artisanal work by local painters. Visitors are invited to quietly appreciate the real art on display in the first two rooms of the museum. To fully experience what Toyohashi has to offer, it is recommended to stay overnight in the city rather than in nearby Toyokawa, which may not have as many attractions for visitors.
This was such an amazing museum, the first 2 rooms in particular were to die for. That sounds a bit ridiculous to say for a museum, but it was seriously so mind blowing and great. Maybe it was the time of the year I visited it (summer) but it was a big disappointment...
After looking for something to do in Toyohashi on Google Maps, we found this place and the pictures looked really nice (and indeed pictures there turned to be much better than what we actually see in person) and we decided to take the 40-min-drive there.
The directions were a little off and we ended up in the middle of nowhere, behind the actual garden. We managed to find some parking spots and immediately noticed the place was very different from what we saw in the photographs.
The bridge is not as big as it looks, the garden wasn't pretty at all and there was nothing to do there.
We went up the stairs and it looked like there was a walking trail, which we decided not to take due to our frustration and non appropriate clothes and shoes for that.
I do want to go back during spring to see if it's actually worth a visit, so let's hope for that. 😅

The Toyohashiharisutosusei Church is a significant cultural asset in Japan, completed in the early 20th century. Its Byzantine-style architecture stands out with its striking contrast between the white board walls and copper roof. The church's design bears resemblance to the Nikorai-do of Ochanomizu, featuring spires and domes. The mall provides a convenient and efficient shopping experience for travelers or locals alike who are in search of a wide selection of products and services.
Lively place. Ot has lots of restaurants, Departmental stores, seria and nitori. Maybe paid parking is available. You can find ATM also.

As compared to other station buildings; Kalmia isn’t very big and one thing I find very disadvantaging is that they have no supermarket. They however have a Beard papa straight at the entrance ..yeei🙌🏻. Next to beard papa is coffee shops ; bakery and Tiny fresh food stores. If you take the escalator down there is a whole floor for just restaurants. Not so many options but okay. Then the last floor down has a drug store , manga store and my favorites ; Claire’s.
If you take the escalator up there are clothing stores and of course the always convenient 100yen store.
So kalmia ain’t that bad. To the other side they also have many souvenir shops so you can always pick something up for friends and family.

The Imo Wetlands is a stunning nature reserve that offers breathtaking sea views and picnic spots on a wooden boardwalk through the forest. The area is adorned with vibrant alpine wildflowers, creating a colorful and serene atmosphere. The place is perfect for hiking enthusiasts as it offers mountain trails, although caution must be taken as some areas can get narrow without railings. It also features cool wetlands, providing visitors with unique paths to explore and witness intriguing natural wonders.
Great and interesting place, especially if you're into hiking. The place is beautiful and peaceful.
It is open 24/7 and there's a parking area.
The mountain trail can get pretty narrow and there's no railing so if hiking is not something you're used to doing (like me!), please be careful. I didn't go all the way to the top because I was there by myself and didn't feel prepared for that, but I do intend to go back.

Very nice place especially in sunny weather , you can enjoy the very beautiful scenery of the flowers and autumn leaves, also if you would hike for 5 more minutes you will enjoy a very nice view of the city, you can continue the full hike until Fujimiwa mount , also if you are lucky enough and it is not cloudy you may see Fuji mountain

Usually a great place to get your forest bathing quota. Currently undergoing some long overdue rehabilitation to allow for indigenous species to recover, maintain, or expand into newly removed swathes of encroaching trees and plants that were less conducive to the ecosystem. Several paths in and around the bog to explore .

A variety of walking trails in wetlands and forests. Constantly changing with the seasons. Many small details to look for like different types of mushrooms, small animals, seasonal flowers. Take a camera.
There are also a few Pokemon places here.
Kikusou Nameshi Dengaku, a renowned tofu restaurant with a history of two centuries, offers a distinctive and exclusive set meal that necessitates prior reservation. This special menu consists of konjac accompanied by peanuts, grilled miso, ginger-infused fried tofu, grated nameko radish, nameshi (rice steamed in tea), and the main highlight - Dengaku miso. In addition to these savory delights, the meal concludes with delightful strawberries for dessert.

Almost full at the same time as the store opened at 11:30. It took me two hours from when I got a seat to when I had a meal. It takes about 10 minutes to eat. It was delicious and I ate it crazy! It's a pity that Dengaku feels like it's smaller than it used to be. It is such a dish that you want to eat plenty even if you raise the price. By the way, the vegetables in the photo are large ^^ v

And speaking of Nai Dengaku, it's Kikusou.
Founded in the Bunsei era, it is a long-established store with a history of over 200 years.
The food is baked after receiving your order, so it takes a little time, but you're guaranteed to eat freshly baked food, so be patient.
The tofu dengaku is made with red miso, which is unique to the Mikawa region, and it looks very dark at first glance, but when you eat it, it's not that dark, and it's very delicious with just the right amount of sweetness and spiciness. You might think so, but it turns out to be really cool.
The green rice has just the right amount of bitterness and saltiness from the greens.
When served with dengaku, red miso is added to it, and the rice with red miso is even more delicious.
Does this combination really work? There may be many people who think so, but please try it once.
It is delicious.
By the way, Tetsuro Degawa also stopped by on a charging trip.

On March 17, 2023, Toyohashi City Hall was commended for its friendly personnel and accessible parking facilities. Visitors were reassured that any unusual noises heard while parking their vehicles should not cause alarm, as the flooring in the parking area may differ from standard spaces. Assistance with English language inquiries was readily available by simply notifying a staff member who would promptly direct individuals to an English speaker.
17 March 2023:
friendly staffs and available parking. Do not be scared if you hear a strange sound while parking your car in the parking space. Maybe the parking space floor is different than other normal parking spaces. Anyway, it's not a big deal.
If you need English language help, inform any of the staff. He or she will guide you to the English speaker. The closing time is 5:15 PM. Do not forget to issue the parking card to any staff. It will help you get free parking.

The place is really beautiful. You can do many things. You can have a picnic on a greeny lawn near the lake. Or you can play with your family members. You can also jog around the park with friends, family or even your love ones. There are lot of ways we can enjoy life and one of wich is to stop by at the park and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Uplifting and stress releiving. Fresh air. Plus you can enjoy sakura viewing when it blooms. ^_^ ^_^ ^_^

Great place for several activities. Jog, read a book, dip your feet, enjoy the cherry/plum blossoms, take in other seasonal blossoms, have a picnic...this park is good for finding your own space. Access by bus, car, bike, and two foot shuffle.
The first time I saw fushimiinari futagawa was about 6 months ago but I just came here today. It turns out that you don't have to go to Kyoto to see Fushimi Inari, there is also Toyohashi Aichi. And most importantly, it is still rare to know this place. The clerk at the jinja is also very friendly oia I use Japanese just to ask permission because the situation is quite quiet today. And sure enough it was just me alone in this place and it was around 12 noon. I imagine when a few months ago to fushimiinari kyoto and the situation is very crowded. It was very different from here. If you go to nagoya please come to toyohashi, it's only about 1 hour by meitetsu line or 15 minutes by shinkansen ⛩️🥰

The approach is like the Senbon Torii in Fushimi Inari in Kyoto
The torii gates are also connected and have a very mysterious feeling.
The approach to the back mountain can be completed in about 10 minutes,
Because it is designed to walk on the slopes and stairs of the ball gravel to worship

I learned for the first time that there is Fushimi Inari Shrine in the opposite direction from Nonhoi!
Although it doesn't feel as vast as Kyoto, there are many vermilion torii gates⛩️ here as well, and there aren't many people so you can pray quietly.
At this shrine, there is also a rare cherry tree called Miyokozakura, which changes from green to reddish, and there was also an amulet modeled after it.

The vermilion color of the series of torii gates was beautiful and stood out against the greenery of the forest.
The atmosphere was orderly and there was a somewhat mysterious atmosphere that refreshed my soul.
The goshuin stamp was also nice.
There were about 10 parking spaces.
I visited on a weekday, but there was only one other car and there were no other people, so I was able to take my time to see the whole thing.

During the winter season, caution is advised while ascending to the statue of Iwaya Kannon due to its steepness. At the base of this sculpture, there exists a petite seat where one can pause and rejuvenate. When summer arrives, this location becomes abundant with numerous rhinoceros Japanese beetles and dorcus titanus during nighttime. It offers a picturesque vantage point that provides a beautiful view.

They are distributing manhole cards, and when I visited on Sunday, I found that they were also distributing manhole cards, which are only distributed on weekdays at the "Johou Hiroba" inside Toyohashi City Hall.
I was interested in the pamphlets I received during my visit: ``Toyohashi War Ruins Map'' and ``Toyohashi War Ruins.''
I think it is a good resource as it concisely summarizes the remains of the military capital during the war.
Pamphlets like this are available in towns with former naval bases, but it may be rare to find such pamphlets in other former military towns.
(There is a "Toyokawa Naval Arsenal Ruins Site Map" in Toyokawa City, which is next door to Toyokawa Naval Arsenal Peace Park.)
*You will need to ask for the tourist pamphlets as they are not in the storage area but on the shelf behind the reception desk.
