Kitazawa Flotation Plant is a well maintained landmark located in the same mine as another attraction. This facility used to separate gold and silver from waste, and now stands as a testament to the mining industry of the 1930s. Gift shops are available nearby, and informative signs provide insight into its operation during that time period. Visitors can enjoy its picturesque views during golden hours, but entry into the building is prohibited.
Unique place to visit. Parking is free and easy in and out. It’s beautiful in the day time but they light it up at night which also is kinda nice.

It is ok for a quick visit. Nothing much around here so it might be nice to come when the cafe Kitazawa Terrace is open. We went when cafe was close so nothing much to hold us here longer than 30 minutes. You can finish this off even less than 10 minutes if you are not keen for photos.

A very nice and well kept historical landmark conveniently located directly across from シックナー which was all a part of the same mine. There are a few very nice gift shops placed directly in the parking lot. The signs placed at each location is very informative about the operation that was ran during that time period. A definite must see if you're visiting Sado Island.

It's a nice 10-20 minute stroll to see the overgrown buildings. Only do it as part of a tour to the gold mine. Not worth an extra trip.
Little information about the buildings original shape and usage sadly.

Sado Kinzan, a historical landmark with origins dating back to the Edo-period, is an excellent place for sightseeing. It offers guided tunnel tours and houses a museum that showcases gold and silver artifacts. The staff is extremely helpful and polite, adding to the overall experience. The admission price is well worth it, especially if you plan on visiting both mines. Additionally, the restrooms are kept very clean and the flooring of the mines isn't too slippery even when wet.
Wonderful place to visit with family and to explore history of gold mine! They have maintained it very nicely and replicated the history wisely ! We really liked this place. Please do visit it if you are planning to visit Niigata area.

The entrance to the inner mine is well done and easy to walk. There is heavy gold that tourists can try lifting. It's very heavy. The souvenir shop sells merchandise only here. I love the whole scenery. Very fresh and peaceful. The staff was very helpful. She explained in English and suggested we choose Sodayu tunnel first (¥1,000) and if we want to do another one, we could at the price of ¥1,500.
It is pretty cold inside the tunnel so please bring light jacket.
Sodayu tunnel would take approximately 30 minutes. Each stop has descriptions in both Japanese and English. I read somewhere that there would be a complimentary tour guide but there was not. I saw there was audio available but without headsets. Maybe if you bring own headsets, you could listen through wifi and bluetooth.
I wish I had more time to explore another tunnel and the whole area.

What a marvelous place to check out on the island! The staff is super friendly, and although my Japanese is very limited I had a fantastic time exploring the tunnels and learning the history of the mine. It’s astounding how much seeing the robot “workers” added to the experience. I also enjoyed the gold bar challenge - how often do you get to hold ¥100,000,000 ($705k) in your hand?
Toki Forest Park, situated on the scenic Sado Island in Japan, is a vital conservation site for the crested ibis, also known as toki. This national bird of Sado Island was once on the brink of extinction due to overhunting and habitat loss. The park serves as a sanctuary and museum where visitors can witness these rare birds and learn about the efforts to revive their population.
It was great to see one of Japan's endangered bird species called Toki (scarlet crested ibis) and I got to learn about their history.
It was nice seeing not only the Japanese Toki, but there were other Ibises from different countries too

I absolutely loved the experience. I was a bit sceptical at first about animals living in cages. But I came to find that they treat the animals well. The staff explained a lot about the birds, especially about the couple in the breeding (which starts next month) cage. Safe from snow and rain, with fresh living fish to eat!
Toki a absolutely cute birds! You should come here! And be careful when the last bus leaves. The staff even reminded me of the imminent leave. Great service!
If you miss it - there are some beautiful shrines and temples in the area! A stroll around the neighborhood is worth it!

A bird park and garden, though it is not extremely big. Set aside, say, an hour or so. This location is a must-see for Sado Island, since you can see crested ibis birds in the flesh. Other related birds are also available, as is a museum regarding the birds, and a mascot who turned out to be surprisingly fun to take photos with. (The character in my photo is Torisumi Horou, a crested ibis.) I was impressed by the staff's ability to answer various questions about the birds in general, as well as about the specific crested ibis in the breeding cage area. Do note that you need to be lucky for the crested ibis to go close to the viewing windows -- typically, they'll be far away, and you can only see them through telescopes (pictured). There is a souvenir shop and an ice cream store available. Lastly, fees are minimal, and almost surely worth paying anyway to contribute to the island's nature conservation efforts.

Very rarely is an entire region so eagerly dedicated to a single species; it really shows here. Here, you can explore every single aspect of the crested ibis (toki). We stopped off here on our drive to Futatsugame Beach. There’s a really nice walking path that goes all around the coast and in the center is an area that in spring is full of lilies. You can also walk up to the shrine with the rope between the rocks. A gorgeous area and nice stop off if you want to stretch your legs. There’s also a restroom and across the road a small hotel that I think serves lunch but we didn’t go in. The more adventurous can hike all the way up Onogame Island. My favourite place so far in my six months in Japan. (The whole island is gorgeous)
I paid for the day pass ticket found in hotels or info centres. The bus took around 1 hour from Kamo lake. The drive is amazing too. I recommend to get off in the stop between Onokame and Futatsukame. Then walk to Onokame. Follow the trail which is a loop but don’t do it all, before you finish it you will find a road of grass that will easily take you back to the stop you got off. Keep going toward the little settlement by the beach until you see the trail to Futatsugame, you will find many surprises on the way (like wildlife, rocks, cliffs and Buddhist altars). If you fancy, bring binoculars. Additional tip: The last bus in the afternoon is at 5:37 pm. So you can just go back to Onokame (if you have plenty of time) and see the sunset or part of it.

Yajima kyōjima is a picturesque location featuring a striking red bridge that connects the two islets, creating a stunning backdrop against the blue sea. The area offers traditional tarai-bune boat rides in the shallow turquoise bay, with clear views of marine life such as fugu. Visitors can explore Kyojima, known as the "island of the sutra," which has historical significance due to a 13th-century shipwreck.

After passing through the main gate, there is a small but similar to Kiyomizu-dera Temple in Kyoto called 'Guzeden' or 'Kiyomizu Stage'.
The principal object of worship is the same Thousand-Armed Kanzeon Bodhisattva at Kiyomizu-dera Temple in Kyoto. In addition, Enmei Zenya Jurosonten is enshrined as the god of longevity.

There is also an explanation at the Kanayama facility, but the focus is on accuracy rather than ease of understanding, so if you have the time, I think it would be better to learn about history here. The videos and written explanations are very well visualized and easy to understand. That's probably why photography is prohibited inside the facility, but it's frustrating that we can't introduce it here.

People need to see this place. Besides the friendly rabbits that "work" by keeping the temple lawn trimmed, the huge Rabbit Kannon statue itself is wild, reminded me of Bunnicula. Definitely worth a visit (including after dark, when the statue's eyes glow red!)

Lovely old temple. Don't expect to see any rabbits, as they are none left..
But the complex is still very interesting, some parts seem quite abandoned (giving it a nice vibe) and some very atypical.

The monk is so generous and helpful. The temple is absolutely gorgeous and there is so much history, you really get a sense about Buddhist and Japanese culture. There is so much to see but also so much to do. The monk has activities in plenty of rooms to copy sutra, make powerful bracelets, and lots more. These activities are great for all ages, young and old! If you are on Sado, definitely pay a visit to Chokokuji temple!

It is a historic old temple built in the early Heian period, but the main hall, kyodo hall, Gochi hall, bell hall, cloisters, etc. are all in disrepair, and one of its charms is its desolation, but you can also see the giant rabbit Kannon in the back. I wonder if it's unnecessary to worry about the safety of the Eleven-faced Kannon, a treasured important Buddhist monument, under the care of a head priest who's completely missing the point...
The majesty of the three giant cedar trees and the surrounding area of Gochido will give you goosebumps. The clear stream in front of the gate and the wild flowers such as the purple jirohana in the private house also provide a sense of peace.

The Sado History Museum offers a captivating experience, using robots and animatronic puppets to bring to life the island's historical events and figures. The main focus is on three significant exiles to Sado: Emperor Juntoku, Buddhist monk Nichiren, and Zeami. While the museum has limited English explanations, visitors can still enjoy the fascinating depictions of historical moments through animatronics. The museum also features a gift shop and beautiful gardens for visitors to explore.
