Kanba Falls is a picturesque location situated amidst the forests that offer an enjoyable hiking experience to reach the waterfall. The place is well-known for its seasonal color changes and houses wild monkeys. Being one of the top 100 falls in Japan, it boasts of its beauty and attracts tourists throughout the year. Visiting on weekdays can provide a peaceful environment with fewer visitors around. Two car parks are available, accommodating up to 20 cars making it easily accessible by driving.
A beautiful waterfall, an incredible place if you love nature area. We went there on May, we look forward to visit again at Autumn and Winter. Suggest to visit on weekday, less people, quiet and peaceful. Unfortunately we didn’t see any monkey, maybe we come at the wrong time. Easy to go by driving, two car parks could fit for 20 cars.

Hands down to the most beautiful falls I’ve ever seen in JP (44/47 prefectures travelled) mamushi warning signs. Easy 10min walk. Don’t use gmaps or it will lead you to the wrong place with very very skimpy road as it did to us.
Ohayō Phil — Google review
This is one of the top 100 falls in Japan. It is really beautiful and worth the short walk and entrance fee. Beware of the monkeys, they seem used to people walking closely to them but it would be easy to "lose" a pair of glasses or a phone.
Judy OBrien — Google review
Really glad I visited! Monkeys were a huge surprise. Definitely one of the better waterfalls!
Sean McAuliffe — Google review
About a 1.5-hour drive from Okayama city, gorgeous Kamba Falls in Maniwa is truly an off-the-beaten path gem. With its dramatic 110-meter drop and at 20 meters wide, it’s the largest waterfall in West Japan and you might be lucky enough to see wild monkeys around the area as well. And it’s definitely worth a trip to catch the dramatic fall colors! Walking along the promenade from the parking area to the waterfall takes about 5 minutes and the path is wheelchair- and stroller-accessible.
It is also possible to go by public transportation but buses are infrequent, so your best bet would be by train from Okayama Station. Take Tsuyama Line, then transfer at Tsuyama to JR Kishin Line to Chūgoku-Katsuyama Station (about 2 hours 40 minutes total), from where it is about 10 minutes by taxi.
Sarah — Google review
My favourite place in Maniwa. 110m tall, this waterfall is the tallest in West Japan. Gentle walk uphill (about 10 mins) to the falls itself, following the stream. Nice and shady on a hot day. If you're lucky, you may get to see the resident monkeys (more likely in Winter).
Laura Pincher — Google review
Great waterfall with the odd monkey.
I recommend getting something to eat less than a minute away at Keni's either before or after. 🍔🥗☕👍🏽

I love this place, completely magical and unique! We didn't had the chance to see the monkeys but they said that in cold days the monkeys come down to the waterfall
Hiruzen Jersey Land, located in northern Okayama, offers a delightful experience with jersey cows and horseback riding. Indulge in the delectable soft-serve made from fresh jersey milk while enjoying the scenic mountain views. In addition to purchasing delicious cheese and dairy products, visitors can also try their hand at milking a cow for a rewarding bottle of milk. Despite the summer heat, this place is definitely worth a visit for an unforgettable experience.
Awesome experience! Also you can buy some really delicious cheese and dairy goods here. If you get a chance to milk a cow, it is totally worth the 700¥. You get a bottle of milk when you finish!
Stephanie Chaves Miki — Google review
There is not actually very much to do at Jersey Land, especially if the weather isn't good.
If they're outside, the cows never seem to be very close so the only possible interaction with any animal is to pay to ride a tame pony round a paddock.
There is a small shop and a restaurant, but not much else...
Phil Vaudin — Google review
Admittedly coming from the UK, we see a lot of cows and such in our countryside so it is not a particularly interesting tourist attraction for other people who have similar access to the countryside and agriculture. Having said that the facility itself is well presented and offers a wide range of dairy products including ice creams and cheeses made from their own herd's milk. The surrounding views are beautiful.
Not worth making a special journey for, but worth a stop if you're in the area anyway.
Kidd Wong — Google review
This is a great place up in northern Okayama. You can see jersey cows here and as well as ride horses. The softcream made from fresh jersey milk is absolutely something you must try yourself. During the summer it can get hot, so don't be fooled even though you're up in the mountains.
Tyson Takeuchi — Google review
We tried cheese fondue here and the cheese was really good, the best I've had in Japan. I recommend also Jersey milk soft serve - super creamy. In the shop you can buy good quality beef and dairies.
There are fields and pastures behind the restaurant and if you come in the summer you will enjoy beautiful sunflowers field.
Ana To — Google review
Nice place to relax and enjoy the view. But there's really almost nothing else to do but that. The only good thing here is the soft ice cream and the store (delicious dairy products).
Jhemarie Chris Bernas — Google review
The view across the valley is stunning and the ice cream delicious. Of course you have to go and see the cows.

Daigo-Sakura is a renowned tourist attraction, featuring a stunning cherry blossom tree that has stood on the hilltop for over 1000 years. Visitors flock to the area in April when the tree blooms, resulting in long traffic queues at times. The massive cherry blossom is well-cared for by friendly staff who are happy to answer questions about it and its surrounding area. In addition to daytime viewings, visitors can also enjoy nighttime illuminations of this breathtaking natural wonder.

Visited at 9:10 on Sunday, April 2, 2023.
I saw a review about traffic jams, so I thought about parking at the hiking parking lot in front of me, but I gave up because I was frightened by the steep slope.
From there, we drove for a while, but it was already congested, so we continued for about 25 minutes and then stopped repeatedly.
When my turn finally came, the first parking lot was of course full, so I was guided to the second parking lot a little further back, but that parking lot, which could have been able to park more than 50 cars, was filled with more than 40 cars. rice field.
It seems better to go by 8 o'clock if you want to see it without traffic.
From the second parking lot, walk downhill for more than 5 minutes to reach the desired Daigozakura.
The long-awaited Daigo cherry blossoms have begun to fall a little, and the true full bloom was about Friday and Saturday.
However, among the cherry blossoms I saw, it was the number one wonderful cherry blossom without complaint.
There was a second Daigozakura tree nearby, and the petals were even more scattered here, but the cherry blossom storm was the most beautiful.
It was such an impressive cherry blossom viewing that I was overwhelmed by the dignity and grandeur of the first generation, and healed by the transience of the second generation.
Anyway, it is the best cherry blossom that I can recommend to anyone.
Next year I would like to stay overnight and go see the cherry blossoms at night.
Thank you to the Daigo Cherry Blossom Preservation Society for maintaining the surrounding area.

Gorgeous 1000+ year old cherry blossom tree on top of the hill. Is super popular in full bloom, so mind the long traffic queues (over 3 hours at times!) best to go first thing, or they light it up at night too. simply gorgeous.

There is a parking lot and toilets. I arrived at sunrise on a weekday, but the parking lot was already almost full. No traffic. After noon, after passing through the trailhead (dogtooth violet natural habitat), there is a sign that tells you to wait for an hour. I love cherry blossoms so it was nice to see them. I like the gap between the small pretty flowers and the fine trees. The mitsumata and the second Daigozakura were also in full bloom.

Ok, so, I was very happy with this for a few reasons. 1) Its a giant, beautiful cherry blossom tree. 2) Its old and has been in the are for over 100 something years and has been tended to this entire time. 3) The people working at the tree were all very pleasent to talk to and open to answering questions about the tree and surrounding area.

I visited for the first time because it was published in the Sanyo Shimbun and it was the best time to see it. Although it was a weekday, it was crowded. You can park at the parking 🅿️ on the way and walk, but the slope continues and there are quite a few slopes, so it's tough for people with bad legs. Congested by car. It took about an hour, but I was able to park in a nearby parking lot. About 1 km before the road becomes a one-way street and you cannot make a U-turn. 🚻 It's better to finish the toilet. The parking fee is 500 yen.
Daigozakura was really beautiful🌸.

It's a beautiful tree and if you're in the area anyway, worth a visit. The weather was bad when I visited, so I didn't have to wait to park and was able to enjoy the sakura in relative peace. Glad I went.

A beautiful view of this 1000year old tree at night. Full of cherry blossoms. 🌺
Small cold spring (11C year round) - you can see where the water bubbles up from underground. You can't take water directly from the spring but there is a fountain close by where you can fill up bottles. Good parking, food options (restaurant/local veg stand) near. Recently been re-done into an impressive campsite (if a little expensive) with tree-top tents etc.

Soft cream seems to be a speciality here, as people ate it even in winter when it was raining.

It is within walking distance.
It was here that I first learned that the Japanese salamander was called a hanzaki.
I happened to see one while I was draining the water from the aquarium, and when I spoke to the zookeeper, he said that it was very active today and that I was lucky to see him, but it was so large that it wasn't really active at all. I felt that there was no movement, but I was told that there was usually no movement.
Even so, I was impressed by how much it had grown. There are about 100 of them living in the surrounding river, and of course they are small, but even in the wild there are some that are about 50 cm long.
The Hanzaki we were breeding this time was over 1m long💦

Hakkei is a Japanese inn located near a beautiful river and surrounded by other good hotels. The hotel boasts an amazing indoor, outdoor, and rooftop onsen where mixed bathing is allowed as long as guests are respectful and refrain from taking photos. The inn also features a vegetarian restaurant, piano bar, spa with sauna, and karaoke room for entertainment. The rooms are spacious with stunning views of the river and nature.
We spent a couple of weeks traveling around Japan on motorcycles and found this gem of an onsen while riding through the area. We arrived after dark and it was a very chilly November evening. We were immediately greeted by some of the nicest people we met along the way and were quickly ushered in to warm by the fire and served hot tea. Many of the staff spoke fluent English and it was great to see such an international crew. The food was locally sourced and fresh. The chef served us some of the best food we have had in Japan. The onsen was equally amazing plus we had our own private bath on our patio overlooking the river. If you want a traditional Japanese onsen with 5 star staff, food and vibe then look no further. It is definitely worth the trip and we are definitely returning on our next Moto trip through this part of Japan.

On the way back from Kurayoshi City, I visited Nishigura, a shop situated in front of Tsuji Honten Sake Brewery. This store specializes in selling old private houses and exudes a charming atmosphere. Formerly functioning as a cafe, it regrettably had to close its doors due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
One of the best sake shuzo I have visited. Their sake (nihonshu, shochu, yuzushu, umeshu) is excellent. Was given a tour by friendly and knowledgeable brewery staff. They use the ancient 'bodaimoto' method in some of their sake (the 'Gozenshu9' range) and the taste is superb.
The shop is organised, clean and well laid out. Also you can buy a great selection of condiments and foodstuffs. I particularly recommend the shio & chilli koji and the sake kasu infused vegetable of some sort. The best 'oshinko' I have ever tasted. It is a great place to spend time at, this little village. Pretty cool, well-maintained old house. 200yen entry, but no information in English/any languages other than Japanese, which is a shame. Lovely stop off in the historical district though.

(Translated by Google) It's well-organized and you can browse comfortably. Admission fee is 200 yen for adults, which is a reasonable price. We recommend stopping by here after strolling through the streets of Katsuyama. It's also nice that it's a little higher up. There is a free parking lot nearby, but the road along the way is not wide, so please take your time on foot.
Below is a brief description of the facility.
●Katsuyama Samurai Residence Museum
It is about 10 minutes walk from JR Chugoku Katsuyama Station. The mansion of Watanabe Tobei, one of Miura Akiji's vassals, has been preserved in a form close to its original appearance. This is the residence of a senior samurai with a history of over 200 years, and the main building and storehouses line the other side of the Nagayamon gate.In 1986, the storehouses were restored due to their age and were turned into an exhibition hall. Many materials related to the samurai family, such as armor, clothing, and ancient documents, are on display.

(Translated by Google) It is said to have been the residence of the Miura family, which had roots in the Katsuyama clan, and its vassals, the Watanabe family, a senior samurai family.
As it is a residence of a senior samurai family, it is large in size.
The rooms are not very ornate, but they are simple and sturdy.
However, the garden did not retain much of its original appearance.
I think this is an irresistible tourist facility for people who like this kind of Japanese-style wooden architecture.

(Translated by Google) As you walk through the Japanese-style streets of Katsuyama-cho, you will see a signboard pointing to the samurai residence hall. Follow the directions and go up the slope to arrive. After paying the reasonably priced entrance fee and entering the mansion, I felt like I had been thrown into a deserted place, unsure of where to start and how to tour. There, I walked slowly from room to room for a while, looking at the exterior of the mansion and being able to go inside freely. However, there are no exhibits such as furniture or furniture in the room, just an empty space. You can also smell the scent that is common in wooden houses. Verandas and hallways have a nostalgic feel that has faded into obscurity these days. When I suddenly looked outside, I saw a small, Japanese-style garden that didn't really assert itself, but it was there. When you think about how people in the past lived there, you can imagine life in a mansion. Because it's an empty space, there's plenty of space to imagine to your heart's content. As I listened to the silence of the mansion and the nostalgic scent of the wooden house tickled my nose, I felt like I had discovered the value of this place and felt fulfilled. It's a nice place.

If you can get in for 200 yen, I think you should try it if you're nearby.
I think it's fun to look around the rose mansion and wonder where the bath was.

(Translated by Google) I had a lot of fun watching it with my niece.
The maid's room was small with only two tatami mats. and my niece. If you take half a tatami while standing and one tatami while lying down, two people can go there. and. The first time I saw bamboo rain gutters was at Shugakuin Rikyu. In the past, it was normal to not have rain gutters, so maybe it was an afterthought? Of course there is no such thing as a screen door. This is a building from an era where nothing we take for granted now is commonplace.
After touring the mansion, we will also show you the earthen storehouse in the garden. My niece looked at the gosoku holder (box for armor) and said, ``Mameko Nezuko!'' Personally, I'd rather have a Saint cross (lol). The armor is made of leather or wood, so it's either a Wood Saint or a Leather Saint. I was watching it while thinking about such trivial things.
It was quite fun.
