The Kintai Bridge is a stunning wooden structure that spans 200 meters and consists of five arches adorned with intricate timberwork. Originally built in 1673, the bridge has been reconstructed since then. Visitors can explore the area for around 970 yen, which includes access to the castle, crossing the bridge, and taking a ropeway ride. The best time to visit is during cherry blossom season when breathtaking views can be enjoyed; however, it can also get crowded during this peak period.
So beautiful place . One of the best cherry blossom spots in Yamaguchi prefecture. The bridge is made of wood. Around 970 yen you get to go castle , crossing of bridge and ropeway. Cherry blossom season is recommended. The view was breathtaking but crowded. During spring and autumn, you have boat rides. There was also bridge and cherry blossom light up. There were also shops too , selling soft cream, fried potato, oysters etc . I think this is only for spring season. I recommend to go to this place in spring.

This is one of the most beautiful and impressive places to visit. One time will not be enough. You have to come during the day and night time, as well as throughout the year. You need to see the different seasons and to see how the bridge can be viewed from a different perspective. Even my teenage kids love this place and it is only a bridge. A must visit while in Iwakuni.

Stunning place. Worth the visit. The bridge construction is amazing. Worth the walk to the other side to get an ice cream. 100 or more flavours.

An absolutely beautiful bridge in a quaint and quiet location. There is a cable car nearby that can take you to the castle. Otherwise, you can enjoy your time walking around on River rocks, meandering in the river, walking across the famous bridge, or exploring the nearby town. There is a beautiful park just across the bridge with plenty of shrines and Tori Gates. I would absolutely recommend this to a friend

Had a wonderful time watching the Teppo-tai Troop today. It was a first for me and my family and we are so grateful to have witnessed this wonderful experience. The bridge in the background was such a beauty. Be sure to check it out next new years day.

Very nice bridge and good castle. Less than 1000 yen to buy a set ticket to cross the bridge and take the cable car up the mountain to see the Iwakuni castle. Good place to spend half a day.

Although the tourist spot appears to be distant, it is definitely worth the effort to visit. The bridge is stunning, and the atmosphere is pleasant. I stayed until the bridge was illuminated, and it was a breathtaking sight. There are numerous activities to participate in, and people were thoroughly enjoying themselves. Additionally, there were several food booths to satisfy one's appetite.

Super cool to come here at night, especially when there has been a lot of rain lately and the water is so high. It's always beautifulily illuminated and exciting to watch the river rushing between the pylons. So moody. Add a little bit of fog and you've got a wonderful place to take a stroll under the moonlight.

Beautiful bridge we were fortunate enough to here during the cherry blossoms. The park has so much to offer. There is so much to do. It cam be an 15m trip or all day. It is also in the immediate vicinity of iwakuni castle. You can take a ski lift, walk a paved road or take the adventurous route up the mountain path.

Definitely worth the visit especially when the weather isn’t hot. For those who are into architecture, the design of the bridge and how it was build and is currently standing will be provide a great exposure and definitely a worth visiting experience. The bridge combined with the museums and the castle is a great one day away trip from Hiroshima or any other nearby city. The nature, mountains and pure air was amazing. Totally recommended and the full entrance fee for all activities (bridge, cable rope, museums and the castle) is around ~¥1500 per adult.

A wonderful reconstruction of an historic wooden bridge. The castle keep is atop the mountain overlooking the river and offers a panoramic view on the bridge. Traditional cormorant fishing is happening in the evening. A very beautiful place to spend a day and the evening.

Beautiful place. Very nice to walk around. The kintai Bridge has parking on the side that is free after hours but with a charge during events and business hours. It's very scenic and great for enjoying nature. Take walking shoes as there is a lot to see on foot. Not a ton of restaurants around so packing snacks is great idea.

Visited in late March and it was such a beautiful place to visit! Not too difficult to get to but please do take note of the bus timings and plan accordingly. Try to visit earlier so there are less people on the bridge so you can get your perfect shots!

Simply iconic. One of the best examples of interlocking wooden architecture. Always nice to view from a torch-lit dinner aboard a traditional cormorant fishing boat. Convenient bus station hub located a 1/2 block to the northeast of the bridge.

Grand bridge, with a small peaceful town owned by a family, lots of great scenic spots, there is a bamboo park, a temple with a pond filled with the largest Koi i have ever seen. Then there is the tram that takes you to the Castle up the mountain. This city was one of my favorites in Japan. I could retire here.

Learn about the bridge 🌉 architecture, plus other attractions at the compound here.
There is a commorant training facility and exhibit to learn more about how these birds were trained in the past to hunt for fish 🐟
The white 🤍 snake 🐍 museum here contains writeups about the history and science of white snakes in this area, and also has exhibits of these reptiles. There is also a quiz terminal which prints out a certificate for you for attempting 5 questions about white snakes.
A cable car ropeway 🚠 leads you to the top of the hill in 5 min to explore the ancient castle 🏯
Don't forget the souvenir stalls too on both ends of the bridge selling specialty items like hot tile soba and Iwakunin sushi.
Expected to stay for 30 minutes, ended up staying for more than 2 hours. Great fun, and much learned.
Iwakuni Castle is a magnificent 4-story fortress renowned for its scenic mountain vistas and impressive samurai sword exhibitions. This attraction offers an incredible weekend adventure for families, featuring the historic Kintai bridge extending over Nishiki river and a cable car ride to the top of the castle. For more active visitors, there is also a paved hiking trail leading to the castle peak that boasts stunning natural scenery.
Always a great place to visit in Iwakuni! From the old Kintai bridge spanning the Nishiki river to the cable car taking you to the top, this is a great weekend adventure for the family. If you are feeling slightly more energetic you can hike the path that takes you to the top. It's only a few kilometers long and it is paved so it isn't too difficult but the nature is beautiful! Entry into the castle is incredibly cheap and the plethora of 1600s swords and armor is a great look back at Japan's history!

The castle itself isn’t big but definitely located in extraordinary location which is surrounded by nature. Inside the castle you can find all the information and history behind its destruction and reconstruction along with quite a great collection of swords, spears and other weapons as well as samurai armors mostly from the 17th - 18th century. The last floor is an observation deck which provides an astonishing view of the city/nature.
A. K. — Google review
A very beautiful castle, yes it has been reconstructed but it's still a beautiful castle. Inside the castle it has museum of a ton of samurai swords, weapon's and a lay out of how a samurai is made. There are 4 level in the castle with each level providing a display of the samurai weapons, at the top of floor there is an observation deck, which allows you to over see part of Iwakuni City. Well worth the visit in my opinion, plus it's a hike to the castle.
Johnny Mac — Google review
The castle and cable car were probably my two favorite parts of Iwakuni. The view at the top is just spectacular and well worth the price!
There’s a great sword exhibit inside the castle and the castle even has its own Goshuin.
Cassandra Wheeles Talbot — Google review
This a historic site, a museum, where you will see a little bit of Japan history. It's not the original castle. It was destroyed during a war and later reconstructed . It's amazing to see the types of swords and armors used at that time. Exhibition is small, but the experience is amazing. You reach the castle through a cable car to the top of the mountain but have the choice of walking down the mountain .
Rodrigo Martinez — Google review
Nice local Castle rebuilt, the hike up to the castle is fantastic. There is also a rope way to take you up for about 350¥ pp. Small museum inside and you can also go to the top level for a beautiful view of Iwakuni.
Taylor Elliott — Google review
I feel sorry for the people that built the original castle. Its position is so high up. It has an incredible view of the surrounding area and the cable car up is very scenic. You can make your way up on foot but it would take a while. From the cable car there is an easy option and a more challenging option to access the castle. So many sword blades kept inside and don't forget to collect a stamp. Vending machines are available outside the castle and there is a nice rest area too.
Aler Locus — Google review
A replicated castle for tourism purpose. You may just want to drop by if you're visiting the neighborhood. Great view from the top window floor.
Jason Hung — Google review
Fun hike up to the top of the hill where the castle sits. The castle itself is nice, interesting architecture, quite a few historical artifacts. Lots of swords and other local history related material to see. There is also a very interesting model of the kintai kyo and a model of the framing of the castle.
Charles Vandenberg — Google review
The castle has a very interesting history and a beautiful vantage point over Iwakuni city. There's an entrance fee to go in, but if you bought the package ticket, you can go in easily.
Each floor has an exhibit, but mainly it's swords, short swords, and sacrificial swords. Each item has a placard with English and on the walls tells the story of Iwakuni Castle and the feudal lords in the area. For history buffs who like the Sengoku era, you'll see a lot of names you recognize.
The view at the top is spectacular, nothing beats it. You get an almost 360 degree view of the area. I went in the summer, but if you go in the fall when the trees are red, it must be breathtaking.
Overall, for a small city in its location, the castle tour experience is worth it.

Be aware that it's really far away from Hiroshima, and a good 20 minutes walk from the station. And there are only three snakes to look at.
But for me, I really liked it, because the white snake is a special sign for me, so the long way didn't matter for me. There is a shrine, working, so you can pray, get a prophecy, and even get the stamp if you collect those. Prophecies are also shaped as little white snakes. There are also omamori with the skin of a white snake, and for the time I was in there I could even purchase a full length of a white snake skin. Makes me feel a little like orochimaru right now).
What is also really important, the snakes are very well taken care of, they have a big enclosure in the shade, an air moisturizer, and a thermometer inside the enclosure to make sure that the environment is good for the snakes.

I would agree with the review that said it's a great date location! There are plenty of fountains, pretty trees, ice cream and food vendors, and historical sites all packed into this one area. There is a big pool-like fountain in the middle where kids (and adults) are allowed to swim so if you're coming on a hot day, prepare a swimsuit or shorts so you can take a dip. Some kids even brought floaties.
On the Kintai bridge side, there's a walkway with 3-4 soft served ice cream shops and a few restaurants that serve the local specialty: Yamaguchi sushi. It's a thick square of rice with lots of toppings, it kind of reminds me of lasagna in a way. There's also a restaurant that sells lotus root noodles (Yamaguchi is famous for its lotus root/renkon). If you don't speak/read Japanese, some vendors have English menus that you can point to if worst comes to worst, but they're very helpful and understanding!
I would recommend spending 2-3 hours in the area just to hit up all the sites, and while there's plenty of drink vending machines around, it's probably best if you bring your own water. It can be expensive!

At the counter, there was a malfunction and a line formed, probably because iron nerds were maniacally asking for refill tickets.

When I told them not to interrupt, they responded in a chaotic manner, saying, "Then why don't you just do it?"

Momijidani Park is a serene and picturesque park filled with hundreds of maple trees, making it a popular spot to witness the stunning fall foliage. The park is also home to monkeys and deer that roam freely, allowing visitors to observe them up close. Nearby attractions include the historic Buddhist temple structures near Mount Misen's summit, such as Misen Hondo and Reikado.
Beautiful and vibrant autumn foliage so glad we went here it was so gorgeous. Definitely worth a visit during this season.

Momijidani Park is a beautiful park that is more suitable to descript as a hiking trail. It features Japanese-style wooden bridges, a small shrine and fish pond. The path is clean and well-maintained. It takes around 15-20 minutes to walk from Itsukushima Jinja which is not long. It is recommended to come especially during autumn when the maple turns red.
If you want to go to the Momijidani Station, other than taking the shuttle bus, choosing to go through this park may also be a good option.

Beautiful maple leaf valley park is stunning at any time of year. Wander through the beautifully maintained paths under gorgeous trees beautiful at any time of year. Beautiful stream running through. A popular route up to Mt.Misen that takes anywhere from 1-2 hours of stair climbing.
Wild deer are in the park. Interesting small shrines and tea shops offering light meals too.
Picnic areas, public toilets here but no water fountains to refill water bottles needs to be reconsidered especially in hot months. A water bottle refill station at a few areas would help reduce waste and improve health as well as comfort of visitors and hikers.

The Iwakuni Art Museum is a must-visit for art and history enthusiasts. The museum boasts an impressive collection of samurai arms and armor, some of which have been lent to prestigious establishments like the New York Metropolitan Museum. Additionally, visitors can explore contemporary art from Japanese and international artists. The museum also features the Kashiwabara Art Museum, offering intriguing exhibitions on the lives of local samurai and their armor.
A must visit place for samurai fans. The museum consists of three floors with lots of samurai artifacts, armors, swords, spears, guns… etc., mostly for the Edo period. It even has baby samurai armor which was quite interesting. The museums definitely can relate to gamers (those who played Ghost of Tsushima). The gift shop also includes lots of items at great prices.
A. K. — Google review
This museum is almost mandatory if you want to have any hope of absorbing the history of the entire Yokoyama area. Yes, as with so many Japanese museums, there is minimal information in English. In a way, that adds to the intrigue and mystery, but your eyes can still take it in...3 floors of staggering depth in historical artefacts, expertly presented and displayed. The huge painted screens, the ferocity of the weapons of war (lances, swords and arrows). The beauty of the fabric in some robes/uniforms, the beauty of the household items (utilitarian but exquisitely decorated). You just shake your head in disbelief at just how skilled the artisans were, and how ferocious warfare was in the samurai period. Show respect, pay the Y800, set aside at least an hour for the 3 floors of displays and enjoy.
Janita K — Google review
Probably my favorite stop of a week in Japan. So many interesting, well-preserved Edo period artifacts. And the ladies working there were so nice and helpful. You'll want a translator app on your phone to get the most out of the displays, however, but no photography allowed.
Transportation to Iwakuni (from Kyoto) was no problem. We used the JR Navitime app for the train and Google Maps for the bus. Iwakuni is a nice little town, too.
chris scharer — Google review
A small "art" museum located near the gondola station. It's more of a history museum with artifacts, but they're showcasing the artisans' mastery of the craft rather than historical relevance to the area.
You can ask for an English leaflet that explains each floor's exhibit, but unfortunately many of the placards inside do not have English translations. Still, if you have some time to kill to look at cool swords, armor, and scroll paintings, I'd suggest going! They have impressive 1800s guns that reach from floor to ceiling, armor helmets that have bunny ears and crab claws, and a letter written by famous warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Cool exhibit run by passionate curators!

There are more varieties of products provided here, with price much cheaper than retail price in Hong Kong (~40% off) and even with tax-free. Sake tasting is available with a specific type of sake (the one selling at 38500 yen), and a sake tour is available upon booking, but I missed the tour as AE concierge told me that no booking is needed and I did not book in advance.

The Iwakuni Shirohebi Museum is a small yet fascinating complex dedicated to the renowned white snakes of Iwakuni. These unique reptiles are considered auspicious by locals and can only be found in the vicinity of Iwakuni. The museum features live snakes, making it unsuitable for those with ophidiophobia. Visitors can explore interactive exhibits, including a map of old Iwakuni and an animated video about the history of the white snake.
Lol at the one negative review on the front page being an American. Who goes to a Japanese museum expecting English? Shaking my head. Yes it is a very small museum but entry was not expensive at all, there's a cute little movie in the first room you enter, all in Japanese but you can get the gist of what the white snake is all about. My husband and I both love cultural stuff so maybe that's why we found this museum to be pretty cool.
Ashley Alter — Google review
The museum is fairly small yet it provides a great information about the white snake found in Iwakuni. The opening interactive video is similar to a Pokémon animation game! The museum includes some interactive devices as well as few lives snakes kept for observation… It may not be the best museum yet it is well kept and does provide all that is to know about white snakes… it is worth the visit if you have nothing else left to do in Iwakuni.

A very small building showcasing the local white snake (pit viper) adequately named Shiro hebi (lit: white snake). In the first room, there's a cool map of old Iwakuni and an animated video about the white snake in olden times. Good for kids. The 2nd room has a bunch of small activities like trying to get the plastic snake skeleton to digest a whole egg, a case of shed snake skin, and other videos. There's also 6 or so live snakes in a glass enclosure, very cute. That's pretty much all there is to see, as most of the text is in Japanese with no English translations so it's hard to linger around. There's a gift shop at the end with snake memorabilia too.
Supposedly there's a festival honoring the white snake in October, so if you're in the area around then, do check it out!

The Mekada clan, who fought against Nobunaga on the Azai clan's side, was forgiven by their enemy Nobunaga and relieved of their former territory. The Mekada clan offered Nobunaga Mt. Mekada where his mansion was located as a place to build Azuchi Castle, and he built Mekada Castle in another location. During the Sengoku period, there were members of the family who were invited to stay with Ieyasu and escape together (crossing Iga) when they learned of Mitsuhide's rebellion, and members of the family who attacked Nobunaga at Honnoji Temple on Mitsuhide's side. It is already afternoon, and thanks to the weekdays, we were able to be seated immediately at Hirasei, a kaiseki restaurant. Although we couldn't get a seat by the window and it was slightly deep inside, the view was still pleasant. We ordered Janome Gozen and didn't have to wait for too long. The sashimi was sliced but incredibly fresh and delicious. Furthermore, Iwakuni sushi captivated our taste buds with its incredible flavor.
yummy❤️😋

The staff was very polite, you know it's a good place when the sincerity of the staff speaks for itself more than the language barrier. Thank you for accommodating us foreigners.
The food was top notch, the best that iwakuni offers, from the famed namesake sushi to the local sashimi. The ambience and view completes the experience.
To all foreigners, don't worry if there is no English menu, be polite and follow the pictures 😁. Respect the staff.

The inside of the store is bigger and more beautiful than you can imagine from the entrance.
The view of Kintaikyo Bridge from the large windows is spectacular.
The tempura and fried oysters were crispy and delicious.
However, Iwakuni sushi didn't suit my taste.

The meals are a bit pricey, but the main dishes seem to be Iwakuni sushi, various gozen sets that include local delicacies, and eel.
There was also a sake comparison set, so if you don't have a car, you might want to try a drink.
