Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond, a historical landmark in South Korea, was built around 674 CE as the residence for the prince under King Munmu of Shilla's rule. The palace complex is situated near a manmade pond with three islets that were filled with lotus during summers. After the fall of Shilla, it became known as Anapji and remained abandoned until its restoration.
Donggung Palace at night is a great place for a romantic walk. Now if only I wasn’t alone when I was there it would’ve been perfect!

Beautiful night time views. I’d recommend going about a half hour before sunset. There is some interesting history, some artifacts (don’t think they are the originals) and a model of what the original grounds may have looked like. The park isn’t too big and there are many great photos to take.

Best time to go is at sunset just before the lights come on. There are benches for sitting to enjoy the views & reflect; the crowd comes/goes as with any attraction but definitely worth a visit. Stay as long as you like within the site although I'm not sure of their in/out policy. There are toilets inside the grounds as well as gift/souvenir shop. Recommend 👍👍

It used to be a palace but they just rebuilt what looks like 3 pavillions and man-made lake as attractions. Make it a point to visit this place during the evening especially during sunset and watch the place glow with lights at night which makes nice pictures taking.

Pretty disappointing. I do not recommend coming here in the daylight. I heard this place is a lot more beautiful at night when the lights are up. In the morning it is just 3 pavilions that look all the same.

Ah, the enchanting Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond, a veritable gem nestled within the historic city of Gyeongju. A place where ancient wonders and natural beauty intertwine.
Upon my visit, I was struck by the remarkably modest entrance fee, a testament to the accessibility of such a treasured site. As I strolled through the grounds, my eyes feasted on sights of stunning beauty. Ancient pavilions, their reflections shimmering in the still waters of the pond, painted a scene of timeless serenity.
However, it was as the sun began its descent that the true magic of Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond unveiled itself. The gentle glow of lanterns bathed the structures in a warm, ethereal light, transforming the landscape into something out of a fairytale. The air was filled with a sense of tranquility, a delightful respite from the bustle of modern life.
If you find yourself in Gyeongju, I implore you to grace Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond with your presence, especially in the twilight hours. A symphony of history, beauty, and surprisingly modest cost awaits you.

Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond in Gyeongju Province is a man-made pond in Gyeongju National Park, South Korea. Entrance is very cheap at 2,000won or Php95 in our money. It is a little hot in Mid-April especially during lunch so be sure to apply some sunblock to your skin but there wind can be so harsh at times.

Canadian traveller here. What a beautiful walk around this park. It’s peaceful and well kept. It was a total of 9,000 KW. They do not accept foreign credit cards so best to have cash with you. I would spend a total of 1.5 hrs here to take in the view and take some beautiful photos.

Beautiful palace and the pond is gorgeous. It's a place that is worth to see at night if possible because all the lights reflect in the water. There are three pavilions and you can walk around the pond and take pictures from all angles. It costs only 3000 won to enter and it is really worth visiting if you are in Gyeongju.

Entry fee is 3000 Won, I believe it is worth it.
Perfect place to enjoy a walk, be sure to walk on the main path otherwise you might slip in the sand !!
There is a wonderful pond which reflects the surrounding buildings.
By night the buildings are lightened, and the atmosphere becomes sublime.
The last entrance is at 21:30! Be sure to get there on time!!

A magical place to visit at dusk just as the sunsets and the lights turn on at the Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond. It is the perfect time for photos.
The walk around the pond is very calming and tranquil. There are many opportunities to capture pictures of the sights during the leisurely stroll. The reflections of the structures and trees off the pond and the moon make for a picturesque scene.
Bench seating is available around the pond to rest and take in the beauty of the surroundings.
We were able to buy tickets easily upon arrival on a Monday evening ~6:45pm.
There are washrooms on site and a gift shop.

This is one of the most beautiful and informative History books I have seen so far. This is a must see place in Gyeongju and also in South Korea. Not only the beautiful masterpiece of Silla crown but also the whole Silla legacy that's in display is a really a big page of Eastern Asian History. It could take one or two hours to complete the tour given that you study every exhibit. Don't forget the Art Gallery. Entry is free. But take a look inside the gift shop too..!!

This is a museum that displays relics from Gyeongju, the capital of Silla (one of the ancient Korean historical countries). If you, a foreigner, have clicked come on this REVIEW thinking that you would go to this museum, it is worth a visit. Although it is difficult to say that our ancient Korean relics are the best in the world, I think it is definitely worth seeing. (Aren't you already in Gyeongju?)
Korean students also travel when they were students. Because it is a representative tourist destination related to Korean history.

Cheonmachong is a burial mound that was discovered in 1973 and dates back to the 5th or 6th century. It is part of a large walled park containing 23 tombs of Silla monarchs and their family members. The tomb, which is open for visitors, measures thirteen meters tall and forty-seven meters in diameter. It has yielded numerous artifacts that are now on display at the Gyeongju National Museum.
The Gyeongju landscape is a tapestry of time, dotted with ancient mounds whispering forgotten stories.
Cheonmachong, the majestic 'Flying Horse Tomb', rises above them all, its secrets echoing in the unearthed frescoes of celestial mounts.
But this place is more than just a solitary tomb. Quaint cafes with aromatic brews beckon from corners, while artisan shops overflowing with hand-crafted treasures tempt at every turn.
The architecture, a captivating blend of ancient and modern, begs to be captured, transforming every corner into an Instagram-worthy dream.
I yearned to linger longer, to truly soak in the soulful warmth of this place, savoring the local delicacies and basking in the ambiance of the beautiful cafes.
Cheonmachong is more than just a tomb; it's an invitation to slow down, breathe deep, and surrender to the magic of ancient beauty.

I visited the museum when I first got to Gyeongju and before I visited the tomb complex and suggest that you do the same… and it provided a lot more context about these tombs and the history of Gyeongju in general.
The site costs a couple of thousand won to enter and as far as I know, cheonmachong is the only tomb/ mound you can go inside. It’s a really impressive archaeology site!

Within Daereungwon Tomb Complex is Cheonmachong Tomb (Ancient Tomb No. 155), which was excavated in 1973. Cheonmachong Tomb consists of a wooden coffin placed inside an underground chamber mounded with boulders and earth, characterized as a typical upper class tomb of the Silla period.
The mound has a height of 12.7 m with a diameter of 50 m, and consists of a layer of rocks collected from streams.
Below the rock layer is a wooden chamber that is 6.5 m long and 2.1 m wide, reaching 2.1 m in height, with the wooden coffin at its center.
A total of 11,526 artifacts were discovered within the tomb, including Cheonmado, an artwork considered highly valuable as it is Korea's first artwork to be excavated from an ancient tomb.

I'd like to share my exprience of visting Cheomseongdae place.
It is located in Gyeongju, a city where many cultural heritages are gathered. It is located in a park in Gyeongju, a city where many cultural heritages are gathered.
I paid 500 won to see Cheomseongdae, but I don't pay now. Because people who didn't pay could see from afar.
In the past, I used to go to school for school field trips and use the bus, but now I go by car.
The historical fact of the place is that it was made during Queen Seondeok and was made to observe stars. There is a hypothesis that it is not a place to observe stars, but compared to observatories in other countries, the hypothesis that it is an observatory is the most accurate.
The most impressive part is that you can see cultural heritage while taking a light walk and The night view is more beautiful when seen in the evening.
I recommend you to visit Cheomseongdae!

Built during the 7th century, it stands as one of the oldest surviving observatories globally. The observatory's cylindrical stone structure is a testament to ancient Korean advancements in astronomy, showcasing the Silla people's keen understanding of celestial movements. Ascending its steps transports visitors to a bygone era when scholars observed the night sky with precision. Cheomseongdae Observatory. This is a very famous astronomical observatory in the region. It was used to study the stars and thus check the best date for planting and growing food. Records indicate that the observatory was built in the period between 632-647 A.D. The entire region is a large garden where several species of flowers characteristic of the region are found. Koreans take over the place during weekends and holidays. Traffic is complicated in the region as access cannot accommodate so many people! It's a beautiful place and you need to see it with your own eyes! I recommend that you come during the days of the week that are less popular so you can enjoy the tour better!
Gyeongju World is a theme park that features roller coasters, a water park during summer and ice sledding in winter. It may disappoint those who expect an Everland size theme park as it is relatively small. However, it has cute areas for small children and several coaster rides. The food options mostly consist of instant noodles and the gift shop seems to be an afterthought. The park appears to have a medieval or Viking theme and is located near a water park.
They have a lot of extreme rides.
I love the good view at the top of the highest sleding rides..
Most of the kids allowed only are 120 meters above.. we came during winter season on friday month of febuary, and unfortunately, their water rides are closed,
The highest sleding rides have a crowded place because their cable car have to be occupied alternately even its a long line, the same thing with a rooler coaster too many people lining up. The 30 minutes waiting will not be enough, it will be more depending on the day and season.

We are giving 4 stars as a benefit of doubt since it was raining when we went. The park is small and if your expecting Everland type size, you will be disappointed. It has some very cute areas for small children and rides as well as several coasters. However, most of the foods were of the instant noodle variety and the gift shop seemed to be an almost after thought. It looks like they are going for a mid-evil theme or Viking theme. It is located next to a water park but our little one is too small to enjoy that so it was skipped.
If you are in the area it’s worth going but if you have to travel any distance, I would suggest skip it. We drove from Pohung and the drive was worth it since it was only 30 minutes.

Smaller and more manageable than Everland, better-maintained than Lotte World. I would've liked an English guide map, but it's not hard to find one's way around. Lots of food options, from dongkass/tonkatsu to takoyaki and chicken/ddok skewers. Excellent ice cream, a nice artisan donut shop. Large picnic area with plenty of shade, tables, AND grass spots to put down a blanket. Seats arranged around rides to give not only parents but waiting riders rest.
Some areas of the park are loud (well, duh, it's a theme park with roller coasters and thousands of visitors) but there are quiet corners, much appreciated by neurodivergent me and my kid. Staff are friendly and efficient. I didn't see much myself in the way of parades or shows, but there is a large bandstand with daily performances and we did see a magician/juggler doing his schtick in one of the central plazas, allowing people in a long ride line to have something to watch! A plethora of statue/picture characters scattered throughout the park, no costumed characters to interact with. Landscaping is lush, lots of shade trees thoughtfully placed.
We visited on a busy, sunny, Saturday in May, so wait times for rides were averaging an hour or more. It may very well be less busy on an average Tuesday - will report back next time. We didn't see either Draken Valley or the water area while we were there, but will also review them next time.
We had a ten thousand won 'group rate' entry fee: regular adult admission is 30. If I understood the cashier correctly, a year pass is only 180 thousand, so if you live close enough to Gyeongju, that sounds like a good deal for a lot of entertainment.

Very entertaining Saturday, fun atmosphere, very colorful and entertaining. In winter have snow slops and a snow village to play with snow and maybe have a couple of snow ball fights.
Woljeong Bridge, originally built during the Silla Dynasty and named after two connecting bridges named Chunyang and Woljeong, has been reconstructed to its former glory. While only stone pillars remained after a fire destroyed one of the piers, the bridge now boasts ornate features that capture the splendor of ancient Shilla culture. The bridge is particularly captivating at night when its illuminations reflect on the water.
It's a "must-visit-place" !!!! I didn't stay till night to enjoy the night vibes here, but I did love it. And, in the same area of this place, there are some great places too to visit. Don't forget to bring your high megapixel camera or gadget, guys 👌

Definitely worth going! I recommend you go both in the morning and during the night.
During the day you can enter and appreciate the lake, and the architecture of the bridge. And during the night, lights turn on and make the place look beautiful.
It is free admission.

We whizzed past in the evening and it was beautiful! Definitely worth it to go there when it's dark, because it's lit up beautifully, as well as the nearby observatory. Best to go to the observatory first and then walk through the park, and see the bridge - you can go up too and it's for free. You can also walk across the stream on stepping stones - you'll see them from the bridge. A beautiful place for some lovely photos.

A recently rebuilt bridge. I recommend going in the morning. It gets crowded as the day goes on. Also be sure to go upstairs to get some historial facts about the place. If you’re going to dress up in traditional clothing then be sure to go early to get the best pics.

Beautiful day and night time views. I think this is a must see. It’s also close to a historical area, but I was too late so I missed out on that extra bit. Many cafes close by and maybe a restaurant or two (really nice eating area is about a km away though with an incredible amount of options). If you take a bus, you’ll have to walk about a km, but it’s easy to find.

Very interesting bridge for those interested in ancient Korean architecture. However, there is not too much to do in the area. If you are nearby, it would be a cool place to visit but dont go to far out of your way to see it.

It's a must-visited place in Gyeongju, the bridge is really beautiful with the Korean style art, the combination of colours, when you look up on the ceiling is just beautiful. Lots of people said at night time is also beautiful with the light on. And upstairs inside the bridge there is projector showing video about how it's made and the art.

Another beautiful Re created monument that has great historical significance. This bridge was used by the kings to cross the stream. But it was destroyed over the years so they have Re created this. You can walk inside and climb to the first floor where there’s a gallery of artworks / pictures talking about this bridge .
There is no ticket to enter this place

It is a stunning tourist attraction and visiting at night makes the spectacle even better. The view of this historic bridge that you will see from the river crossing will be engraved in your memory. As the lights reflected in the water with the dark background will certainly be one of the best photos you will be able to take of the bridge! On the day we visited, late at night, it was possible to take several photos without having to fight for the best places, as it is very common for all places to be taken by many people! Here you won't have to pay entry and you can leave your car on the nearby streets. There are also places with street food. Come and enjoy this beautiful tourist spot in Gyeongju! South Korea is Great!

A beautiful bridge at day and at night.
It might get overcrowded at night.
Please be aware this is just a bridge and not an attraction. It main purpose is to cross the river and to go to the traditional village near by. Don’t expect anything more than what it is.

You'd be kind of unlikely to have occasion to cross this bridge by chance, as it doesn't go between areas frequented by tourists and isn't for vehicles. But the bridge is worth going out of your way to see, especially at night. The reflections along the water are beautiful. Worth making a detour to see

Bomun Tourist Complex is the international tourist district of Gyeongju.
This tourist district is formed with Bomunho Lake at its center, located about 10 kilometers east of downtown Gyeongju.
The area spans approximately 8,000 km², and contains an international-scale luxurious hotel, family-friendly condos, golf range, and pleasant walking passages that are designed to suit the diverse needs of tourists.
The tourist complex attracts crowds of visitors in April, when cherry blossoms are in full bloom.
The sight of cherry blossoms around Bomunho Lake and Bulguksa Temple are popular even among domestic travelers.
I went on December, winter season, it’s not the best time to visit.
Franklin Lau — Google review
The pictures of the lake on the Internet doesn't really paint a complete picture of the lake. Learned from locals that the lake is only nice during certain periods of the year, particularly spring around Jan to Mar.
Skip this place in summer because not only there is not much to see or do around the lake during this period, the weather is also sweltering hot, reaching almost 40° Celsius.
There is a trail surrounding the lake that you can walk on to admire the view, but the beautiful bridge only works when the whole lake is filled. Cafes and other amenities dot the place too, while there are many big chains of hotels around. Some of the shops only open during the peak periods.
Not as magical as what the internet portrayed during my visit here.
Luke Phang — Google review
I came here as a cyclist as I had understood I could cycle around the lake. This isn't the case, bikes cannot use the two tracks around the lake, instead cyclists are relegated to a bike lane on a big busy road. So, I'd say it's rubbish for cyclists and what little I did see if the lake was over-developed.

Exploring the Gyeongju Gyochon Traditional Village was a cultural immersion despite the shops being closed during my visit. Walking through this quaint village, frozen in time, evoked a profound sense of tradition and appreciation for Korean culture. The well-preserved hanok houses and alleys whispered tales of the past, offering a glimpse into ancient Korean lifestyles. Even without the bustle of shops, the ambiance was rich with history, making it feel like a step back into a bygone era. The village's authenticity in preserving Korean heritage was striking, leaving a lasting impression of the country's deep-rooted traditions.. Visited during the month of February this year.

This place is awesome for both kids and the adult to visit. The area is huge. The botanical gardens are beautifully decorated and the bird park is just awesome because of the way we can interact directly with the birds. We can feed them with our own hands. Gyeongju Bird Park offers a unique experience such as entering a large bird cage. Instead of looking at the birds in their cages, we can touch and play with them.
The park is designed to provide a happy experience for both birds and visitors especially kids.
Compared to other tourist attractions in Gyeongju, I think the entrance fee of here is a bit expensive.
However, it is worth it because we can observe and touch animals and experience that we cannot normally see.

Alot of stamps to collect so it keeps things even more interesting. 1 big point of critic they kept 3 adult huskies and 2 labradors in a little cage outside as attraction along with the birds and the pigs.... They looked sad and cold.

Tomb of Queen Seondeok of Silla.
For those who have seen the drama or are interested in the history of Silla, how about imagining the life of the queen and the history of Silla in front of the tomb?
About 3-4 km from the bus terminal, enter from the main road, pass under the tracks, and walk for about 10 minutes on the mountain road.
I think tourists will go by taxi or rental scooter.
Even if you rent a bicycle, there is no problem in terms of distance, but I thought it might be a little dangerous due to the traffic conditions on the main road.
Takuya M — Google review
Ok, this is Queen Seondok of the Silla dynasty's tomb. It is easy to miss, the road in off the main road is deceptive and looks more like a park path! After you turn in on this single lane road, you'd come to an open area for parking. Park and walk, although you can drive in further, but between farmland on an elevated single lane track. if you come through the other side of the tomb, you'd have fun driving through a really small village with even narrower lanes and you'd definitely scratch something unless you have a Kei-class vehicle!

Come and experience the authentic Korean street food. How it works here is like a mini buffet. First choose a stall at the food court (for me, I just go for the one surrounded by most ahjumas). Then grab a seat. You will be given a bowl of rice, soup, cutlery and most importantly an empty plate! With the spread on the table, you are free to add whatever you would like to have it with rice.

The Tomb of General Kim Yusin is a fascinating site with stone carvings depicting the 12 zodiac characters. It's conveniently located near the bus terminal, making it easily accessible for visitors. Many tourists are drawn to this historical location, where they can learn about the story of Kim Yu Sin from knowledgeable guides. The tomb itself is an impressive sight, reflecting the prosperity of the Shilla Kingdom during that era.
This place is really close 10 the bus terminal. I

(Translated by Google) Kim Yu-sin is the only non-royal person in Silla history to become king. Of course, he was a posthumous king who became king after his death, not while he was alive. However, the reason why Kim Yu-sin, who was from the Gaya royal family, was revered as a king in Silla society is probably because not only his accomplishments but also the character he showed during his life impressed people. Thanks to his grandfather's major, he still achieved a considerable status in Silla, but the fact that he was a member of the Gaya royal family meant that he was bound to be subject to checks, and there were certainly limits to his ability to establish himself in Silla society. For some reason, only the person concerned can know, but it is thought that his father, Seohyeon, married the daughter of Sukheuljong, the most powerful man at the time, to have foreseen the future. When I think about Kim Yu-shin's life not only as a hero but also as a person, I think that he never had a single day of peace from the time he was born until the time he died. Read the biography of Kim Yu-shin briefly and then visit here. Of course, like many other Silla royal tombs, we are not 100% sure that this is where Kim Yu-shin is buried, but it still has value as a space where Kim Yu-shin can be remembered and honored. The pine forest road leading towards Sungmujeon is also very nice. When cherry blossoms bloom in spring, the cherry blossom road that runs down from General Kim Yu-sin's tomb toward Heungmu-ro creates a fantastic cherry blossom tunnel. A cherry blossom spot in Gyeongju that only I want to know about.
