Interesting experience. You get to see many snakes, and you can also touch them and have them crawl over you if you are not afraid (but it is safe). And the owner is friendly. We recommend visiting.

Snake Farm is fantastic! We highly recommend the place and its wonderful owner who is a knowledgeable petson with a great attitude to both people and snakes. You will be allowed to touch many of the reptiles and get to know their habits. And surely your best photos will come from Snake Farm so you cannot miss it. All the best! Many thanks for the adventure!😘

Today we went to see the snakes on the farm. We got to see a lot of different snakes and get to hold the friendly ones. There is a lot of information and the snakes on the farm are being treated an release back in to nature. It was a great experience for a fair price. I recommend going here!

We had such an amazing visit to this sanctuary. The owner was very passionate about treating wounded snakes and preparing them for getting back to nature. Guests are in for a treat - learning about all the snakes in Sri Lanka while facing your fears by holding them :)
A small, family-owned gem definitely worth visiting

You get to see and hold different snakes, Sisanka is really welcoming, takes the time to explain and you can quickly feel his passion for snakes.
Also most of the snakes are rescues that he releases after taking care of them.

Had a crazy wildlife experience at Sri Lanka snake farm. Thank you Sisanka for the opportunity to hold and feel the wild species and gain some knowledge about the snakes 🐍
A must visit attraction at Mirissa and if you are planning to reach the farm I suggest you to rent a bike (approx 2500 Srilankan rupee /day) and explore the city.
You can click amazing photos with the snakes and my favourite one is green wine viper

Very interesting place to see some of the local snakes that are otherwise difficult to find in nature. You can hold and feel the non poisonous snakes. Rock pythons, Green Vine snakes, Forstens Cat snakes, Trinket snakes. These are used to be handled, so very docile, not aggressive at all.

The host showed and told us everything about the snakes he keeps for only 3 months after rescue to be put back into the wild. I think that he should keep doong this work and it is very good experience to visit this place, but also important to visit to help snakes in Sri Lanka!

The snake rescue center provided an excellent experience. The guide was fantastic, taking ample time to share insights about the snakes and patiently answering my questions. Their dedication to caring for injured animals, nursing them back to health, and handling them with utmost care made it a truly remarkable visit.

What a wonderful visit it was! Sisanka is fun, professional, very knowledgeable about local fauna, and he just loves snakes. It is all in detail, but you know right away the whole thing is sustainable from the condition of the snakes.

If you are near here… COME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We just finished our time with Sisanka and his snakes. We learned so much, held loads of beautiful snakes and were 100% safe. He even showed us some of the venomous Sri Lankan snakes like the cobra. He rescues and cares for injured snakes and then releases them into the wild in safer locations - like nearby national parks and locations with less humans. His work is both important for the environment and wildlife here in Sri Lanka and is also incredibly educational/entertaining. We paid 2500 per person and it was 100% worth it! What a fabulous experience!

Very dirty and abandoned beach, just like the accommodations that are on the beach. Landscape is a very beautiful beach, but it is falling apart due to neglect and lack of maintenance. Its sand is fine and there are waves. The water does not look clean.
Polhena Beach, located on the southern coast of Sri Lanka, is a picturesque beach known for its calm waters and stunning sunsets. It is sheltered by a reef and offers opportunities for swimming and snorkeling. Although it can get crowded on weekends, there is ample parking available for visitors who are charged a fee to enter. The beach also features shower facilities but does not permit drinking on its premises. For added safety, there is a police post established near the beach area.

You may have wondered, why I have given 3 stars to this beautiful beach. Yes it's a beautiful beach. You can bathe there. It has a protective reef. But we heard few people died after swimming. There is a navy post I believe they have some life guards. But life guard signs are not displayed properly. So there is a danger here. When I review a place I always consider the number of activities around the area. But I couldn't find any other than sea activities. There are shops to buy swimming equipment. They have washrooms also. Good parking too.

Beautiful beach, fine sand and trees providing shade. You can rent snorkelling gear but there aren't many fish right at the beach. You have to swim a little bit to the right side but then you see many different kinds. I wouldn't expect turtles there and the visibility can be bad after rainy days as there's a river mouth not far away. The water is very calm though because of a reef

Not much restaurants around there is a place called lions gate food there is good (few meters from the beach)
Jude Terryl — Google review
Very popular among the locals. Clean waters and the beach. Snorkeling gear and tubes can be rented. Shallow waters and tides softened up due to coral reef - making it a sea pool for an fun-filled sea bath. The best time to visit is in the morning. No good restaurants or changing places around. Looks chaotic and unorganized during local holidays. Yet, the bathing and snorkeling experience make it worthwhile to visit the place.
Local and tourism authorities must make the place tidy and make it tourist friendly.
The Weherahena Poorwarama Rajamaha Viharaya is a well-known Buddhist temple located in southern Sri Lanka. Interesting, mystical place, with huge, four storey Buddha statue and vast underground paintings that show chapters of Buddha's life.
This temple was built with the help of visitors. If not for that support, this temple would not be here today. The maintenance work here is done with the help of the visitors. There is no government support. Many social service activities are carried out by this temple and part of this aid is allocated for it. Running two orphanages for boys and girls is the main thing and many other activities are done in addition to this, so give monks some donations.

It's a temple with an underground labyrinth where all walls and ceiling are covered with many pictures telling us stories about Buddha's life. Some pictures are still painting, others in a good shape and part of them are really worn out. By the way, there is a huge 39m statue of Buddha, you can't miss it! There is also a nice view from the top of the temple. If you tend to such places, with its own soul, you definitely have to check in and see it with your own eyes.

The Shrine of Our Lady of Matara, located in southern Sri Lanka, is a Roman Catholic church dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Its centerpiece is a revered statue believed to be around 400 years old.
The statue's origins are shrouded in mystery. Legend says it was found by fishermen in the early 17th century, miraculously unharmed inside a crate pulled from the sea.
Over the centuries, the statue has become a symbol of hope and miraculous intervention. Locals credit it with helping the community through a cholera epidemic and attribute its survival of the 2004 tsunami to the Virgin Mary's intercession.
Today, the Shrine remains a place of pilgrimage for Catholics in Sri Lanka and a cultural landmark in Matara.

Solemnity Reverence and Peacefulness!!
My wife and I visited the "Shrine of our Lady of Matara" Roman Catholic church in the morning on Friday 21st February 2020. Located on Beach Road, facing the blue waters of the sea, it was peaceful being in this small church, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The devotees visit this church to worship the statue of the virgin Mary and the Child. This statue sitting at the head of the church is said to be miraculous, surviving almost unscathed on several occasions including from the deadly Tsunami that swept through the church in December 2004.
There is a larger than life size replica of "Pietta" - Virgin Mary with the child - outside in the backyard garden. One can purchase souvenirs, religious books, statues etc in the little souvenir shop. The garden, though small was pleasant to walk around.
Though I am not a Christian, I felt a sense of reverence and peacefulness when inside the church. It was calm quiet and solemn.

The Star Fort Matara, constructed in 1765 by the Dutch, is a small fortress designed to compensate for shortcomings in the adjacent rampart. The main gate bears the date of construction along with the insignia of VOC and coat of arms of the governor. Inside the fort, visitors can explore former soldiers' sleeping quarters and prisoners' cells as well as view modest exhibits on Matara's history at a small museum.

*Matara star fort -❤ 🕯️
The Star Box is an unusual construction with an attractive appearance. The box has twelve sides because it is shaped like a six-pointed star.✨️
Bridge - You have to go through the moat to the entrance of the fort. It is a two-part wooden bridge. One part is fixed and the other part is raised by a lever. It also acts as an additional door that closes when you lift it up.🎉️🎉️
The arched entrance with two large pillars exemplifies Dutch architecture. Very attractive place for both local and foreign tourist. Martha Fort is sort of an administrative district🎖️️🎖️️. The court is situated their as well as the election commission and the Divisional secretariat. You can also go farther to see where the river Nilwala meets the sea. There is a fishing harbour at that point as well. Very tidy small fort with some interesting info inside on Matara and surrounding area. Free of charge and definitely well worth a look if your in Matara.🎖️🪔

Well maintained by the Department of Archeology. This beautiful and compact fort (the smallest, built by Ditch in Sri Lanka) was built in 1765 but was shortly handed over to British with surrender of territory in 1796. Purpose of this little fort was to protect the main fort from the attacks coming in from the land/river, following the Matara Rebellion in 1761.
British used it as an admin office and was also used as a public library from 1965-1975. The drawbridge was recently renovated with the assistance from Dutch government.
It's a beautiful structure resembles a six point start, with an informative museum inside, which is free for public to visit and observe. The visit wouldn't take more than 30 minutes. Parking available for about 10 vehicles. No other facilities like toilets, restaurant, publications sales, etc. are available inside.

As you enter Matara city, it is located next to Uyanwatta Stadium, close to the city centre. The fort is a tiny fort built by the Dutch in 1765 and can only be guarded by a handful of officers. The VOC and Governor logos are emblazoned over the main gate. Inside the fort there is a small museum about the history of Matara, you can also see the former soldiers' bedrooms and the prisoners' cells while visiting this. This artefact has added historical value to the city of Matara.

The Parewi Duma temple is a one-of-a-kind Buddhist temple in the sense that it is located on a separate island from Matara beach. One can access the temple via a pedestrian bridge. The main one is under repair, so there is a temporary bridge (a little bit of risk involved when crossing as it is narrow). You will need to pay for a ticket once you cross the bridge and climb the staircase to the temple entrance. Nonetheless, despite the cloudy weather, reaching the top of the temple rewarded me with a breathtaking view of the Indian Ocean and the immediate surroundings of Matara and the coastal Southern Province.

I spent a few minutes exploring the temple ground and was constantly in awe of intricate details and stunning architecture. The peaceful atmosphere of the temple was palpable and I found my self feeling incredible relax and at ease. 😌
You can visit temple upper level via the built-in concrete stair, that allows visitors to take in the breathtaking views of the deep sea and the city. In upmost you will find the Chaithya which is the pinnacle of the island. ☸️

The island has a very dilapidated bridge to cross from Matara beach to the temple that is on the island. One bridge is broken in half and unusable, and the other in service, is in poor condition and even dangerous to cross. When you get to the island temple, you have to pay 1000 sri lankan rupees if you are a tourist, and 500 sri lankan rupees if you are a local, supposedly it is a donation at will, but if you don't pay you don't get in. The temple is under reconstruction.

Parewi Duwa Temple is situated in Matara surrounded by the Indian Ocean (Closer to main Bust stand)
The island is closer to the mainland and its just 75m from the Main Road.
Access to the island is through cable bridge and presently destroyed due to corrosion. How ever they have constructed a temporally bridge which is unsecured and be mindful when walking through it.
You can have a clear panoramic view on the silk route. And the sea is rough and not suitable for bathing.
The temple is still under construction and once completed, It will have a peaceful environment for the devotees.
No stalls, or shops are available for refreshments within the island, Hence better be prepared if you wish to stay for few hours.

Kirala Kele Sanctuary is a hidden gem near Matara, Sri Lanka. This lush wetland is a haven for birdlife, with sightings of whistling ducks and many other avian residents. The network of marshlands and waterways creates a picturesque scene, perfect for nature enthusiasts. The sanctuary remains a beautiful escape for a tranquil afternoon.

This is a bird sanctuary located not far from matara city. Not properly maintained. Roads are in good condition and can accessed by a car. No need to take prior permission or tickets. Since this place is not protected by authorities some people use this are as a garbage dumping area. How ever you can see many wetland birds in this area.

A great place to go for a morning or evening walk or for a bicycle ride. The roads are really beautiful and the scenaries are priceless. There many species of birds in the forest. Bird watching and photography is common in here.

A nice pleace to have a walk in the morning or evening when there has been no rain around. Unpaved road surface is uneven in places and there are many interconnected routes. Most routes border waterways.
Calm and cool area with lots of birds. More and more people are using the area to have a walk. Occasionally, there are few groups of people fishing from the banks.

It is a hidden gem in Matara, just a few kilometers away from the town. The sanctuary covers about 750 acres of mangrove forests, marshlands, irrigation tanks and canals. It is home to many species of plants, animals and birds, some of which are endemic to Sri Lanka. I saw the green-faced leaf monkey, the whistling duck, the water lily and the kirala tree. The sanctuary also supports the livelihoods of thousands of people who fish, farm and collect flowers from the wetland.
I highly recommend Kirala Kele Sanctuary to anyone who loves nature and wildlife. It is a must-see attraction in Sri Lanka, and a great place to learn about the culture and history of Matara. It is also a great example of how people can live in harmony with nature and conserve its resources. Kirala Kele Sanctuary is a treasure that deserves more attention and appreciation.👍

Kirala kele, situated in Matara district between the Nilwala river is a marshland rich with biodiversity.
Kirala kele is a habitat for a vast amount of mangrove plants and therefore is called a "mangrove forest". The residents of the area use to find their livelihood from the wetland. Fishing, cultivating crops and raising cattle have been practiced by them in order to earn a living.
Water lily, water snowflake and lotus are among the aquatic flora found in the marshland. It has been surveyed that kirala kele is rich with 83 species of flora, 13 species of mammals (including the Green-faced leaf monkey who is an endemic animal) and abundance of bird species.
You can visit Kirala kele during any season for its natural beauty never fades according to the change of seasons.
However, the man-made constructions around the area have become a huge threat to the marshland lately.
The area has been protected under the sustainable development strategies but it needs to be well preserved with more attention for the future generations. So, if you would like to witness the richness of a wetland, Kirala kele is the best place which suits your intention!

Ambience : Great place to chill and spend time with friends and family. Stayed here for 1 night. And we had the whole place to ourselves!
Pool : The pool is small, but clean and not deep. It faces the road but they have some plants to help cover the pool. The tiles need a bit of fixing, almost cut my hand twice when holding on the side of the pool.
Food : Had their beef burger which was very very good.
The breakfast however was just alright .
Staff : Very polite and accommodating.
The room : Somewhat small, but just enough. They had hot water and A/C. No mini fridge.
Had a nice view of the ocean and the hotel.
The beach is right across the lane! 😁

Do not go here. Entry was about 1200. I gave the bouncer 5000 and stood waiting for my change. He pretended I never gave him anything and kept all of my money and then asked me for money for entry. He knew exactly what he was doing.

It is a nice place to dine in with your loved ones while enjoying the sea breeze and scenes of the Indian Ocean. Food is delicious and the price is reasonable. The staff is not so friendly but the place is good to enjoy your holidays.

The club has great music, and great service. BUT beware of the tuk drivers outside. They often overcharge and can become aggressive if challenged. A friend of mine who’s a girl, experienced this firsthand. They yelled at her in filth and pushed her when asked about unfair pricing.
The security needs to address this issue for customer safety. AVOID the tuk drivers near the entrance; those further away usually offer better rates. Exercise caution, as encounters with them can turn violent. One star for the location due to these issues.

Very nice atmosphere right on the beach, with good music and surroundings. The music filled the space but didn't prevent conversation, which was great. Very attentive staff and good customer service and the food was of a high standard.

Saturday Night After Party review: Be careful peeps, we went there last night and tons of just too hammered locals were fighting each other, a guy even brought a machete into the club while security was doing absolutely nothing.. we spoke to a person that’s been living in SL for years and she said that didn’t happen the first time ..

The club and the music are great, BUT be careful of the tuk drivers outside. They charge unfair amounts, and when questioned, they try to fight you. This happened to a friend of mine who is a girl. They pushed her and yelled at her in filth. The security should seriously look into this. It's their responsibility to take care of the customers' security.
Always ignore the tuk drivers right in front of the entrance and go to the ones like 50 meters away. It's usually one-third of the price that the tuk drivers in front of the entrance charge.
Be careful when dealing with them. You might end up with a knife in you. One star for the location because of these tuk drivers.

The best snake farm in Sri Lanka. You will see here big, small - snakes of all kinds. Viper, Cobra and other snakes that are not so dangerous anymore. Don't expect any terrarium, everything will be brought to you by the master. 🙂
You can hold the snake, pet it. The trip to this place is definitely worth it. I can only recommend it and the gentleman was very nice and helpful. He explained everything to us. Thank you snake farm 🐍

Amazing experience! Non venomous and venomous snakes seen at Vikram's house. No booking needed. We were able to touch, hold and carry the snakes on us. Felt very confident in Vikram's handling of the snakes. All snakes looked healthy with the most incredible skins. Definitely recommended!

Great experience. We were a family of 2 adults, 2 children and a baby. The children were very engaged in how the owner presented the snakes. We managed to hold several non venomous snakes and he also showed us a few venomous ones but we felt safe at all times. The visit took under an hour but the price was very reasonable. We even bought some herbal medicines to take with us.

You get to hold a variety of non venomous snakes and observe the venomous ones.
I had a great time as a snake lover. This was a real great way to spend an afternoon.

Good place. There are a lot of different snakes. Most of them are not dangerous and you can take them on your hands. Some snakes are poison, but it not dangerous if you will keep distance from them. It is a good opportunity to take a shocking photos and videos. After visiting this place you will know which snakes you should afraid.

Thanks for amazing experience. This is the place for an up close and personnel encounter with a selection of Sri Lanka’s snakes. Within a few minutes after arriving at the site we had a few pythons wrapped around our necks. He brought out a few more different types and he let us all handle the snakes. Since he is releasing all the snakes into the wild, I guess each visit will give a different experience. We fully appreciate and support his work with Sri Lanka’s snakes.

Amazing collection of snakes. Lots of non poisonous snakes which are very friendly. He helps you engage touch and interact with them. He also has a collection of poisonous snakes. He brought them out for all to see. Explained details to the kids and did it without allowing any of us to get scared. My kids are 6 year old and they loved it. They loved holding the snakes. He even allowe the kids to take back some snake skin

Really awesome experience. The owner showed us a lot of different snakes including a big python and very beautiful and scary cobra. You can touch the snakes and feel them on you, even on your head if you want 😘😍 (non-poison).
The place is little bit hidden in a jungle and you feel like a real adventurer ❤😍
This worth visiting 👍

After reading the reviews we decided to check this snake farm out over another one and where not disappointed. His knowledge, communication and experience as a whole was great. Fee for an adult is 2500RS well worth it for all the snakes he saves on a regular basis. Do call in advance to make sure he is around we had no troubles at all and highly recommend.

If you want to get over the fear of snakes and do it in Sri Lanka, then this is the place for you! Were introduced with various Lankan snakes that live here. The person mostly puts the snakes around you, on your hat or glasses. There are small ones and big ones. Price for one person is 2,500LKR which is definitely worth the price. 🐍

Such an amazing experience being able to hold various non-venomous snakes and see a variety of venomous snakes that you wouldn’t normally be able to see. Excellent place! You must go there if you love snakes but if you don't love them or don't know much about snakes then you should definitely go to this place.
I love snakes but seeing them from a distance and actually holding them are two very different experiences.
