Mt. Takachiho is a renowned peak boasting of ancient shrine ruins and hiking trails. It has a large bronze spear at the top and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes. The hike can be challenging, with steep paths on the Takaharu-side, but it's doable and highly recommended for those seeking an adventure. Despite changing weather conditions, it remains a fun and not-too-long hike that rewards visitors with amazing panoramic views after just three hours.
Amazing walk. Highly recommend. Have good grip on your shoes or be prepared to take a couple slips and slides with regular trainers as there are a lot of loose rocks on the slope. Super fun walk, spectacular views. Was told by staff at the Visitor Centre that I could come back with my dog but they would have to stay on the leash the entire time. LOVED this. Would 100% do this again and connect surrounding routes for a longer walk. Enjoy!

It's not an easy mountain to climb. If you want an easy climb, go to Karakunidake. It's a treacherous mountain, ascend and descend with care.
NEL CHRISTIAN DAVE TORTOLA PIO — Google review
Visited in late November; it was a most beautiful, fairly demanding hike in changing weather conditions. Although the path is rather steep the Takaharu-side and loose and trechearous on the Takachiho-gawara side, it‘s a doable and highly recommended hike; staggeringly beautiful out there, a feast for the soul.

(Translated by Google) There are stairs to the bottom, so you can climb safely. However, from the bottom, the slope becomes gravel-like and steep, making it easy to slip, so those who are not confident in their physical strength should not climb the mountain. Going down is more difficult, and if you slip, you won't be able to stop and will be seriously injured. Trekking poles are a must. The view from the foot of the mountain is spectacular, and you can even see the mountains rising above the clouds.

I climbed it along with Mt. Korea, but it was quite difficult at times. When we climbed up to the explosion crater, we were greeted with a wonderful view, but we still had a long way to go to reach the summit. .
From there, there is another steep climb and we finally reach the summit. Perhaps because we climbed the mountain early in the morning, there was a strong wind blowing past the explosion crater, and we were almost blown away. There was a great view from the top of the mountain, but we were forced to leave early due to the strong winds.
As I was coming down, I passed many climbers and thought it was a popular mountain. I wonder if many people with children made it to the end?

Takachiho Farm is a charming attraction located south of Kirishima National park. The farm offers visitors the chance to interact with animals and enjoy horseback riding, as well as tour a dairy plant. The farm boasts plenty of parking and green spaces for grazing sheep, along with a shop selling local products including delicious fresh milk. Additionally, visitors can indulge in cold beer and tasty food while enjoying scenic views and soaking their feet in a hot spring after hiking to the peak of Mt.
Something for everyone. Pet/feed the animals. Good restaurant. And the ice cream is oishi!!!

Lovely looking place just south of the Kirishima National park. Plenty of parking with a slope to walk to the farm itself (there’s an optional cart if you need a ride.) There are lots of green spaces—one on front has grazing sheep. There’s a shop with local products. The fresh milk was yummy! Didn’t actually go in the farm, but perhaps next time.

We came as a family of four, and we had lots of fun there. Although the soft cream was not as good as we thought, considering we were at a dairy farm, we got to see some lambs, goats, horses, cows, and rabbits. We also got to even feed the lambs, goats, and the rabbits, and the small food boxes cost 200 yen. There is also a gift shop, where you can buy some milk products, bread, souvenirs, and so many more things! Experiences such as milking the cows and horseback riding are only available on the weekends, as the website says.

There's not much to do here. It's good to drop by if you are in the area but not worth making a special trip here. The restaurant food is quite average. We ordered the set, the beef was average, the pork was terrible, the chicken was good. Salad bar had limited choices but was quite good.
The farm shop was the most interesting place here. Recommend the soft serve ice cream and their yoghurt. The ice cream is a good 5 out of 5!

Worth to bring your children in this farm and let them experience the touch and feed rams and goats. Also let children to learn and share the care and love of animals.

Interesting farm that it's nowhere near the Takachiho Gorge. Despite the name, it's a fun place for a group of friends, with sheep-feeding and horse-riding experiences available. The scenic spot of 関之尾滝 is a beautiful location surrounded by lush foliage and seasonal cherry blossoms. Very cool water fall! It’s a great area where you can see a pretty large water fall from above and up close from a suspension bridge. There’s an area in the back where you can see the mouth of the water fall. It’s cool to be able to see the formation of the waterfall.

Tsumagirishima Shrine is a historical and revered shrine with a fascinating legend about the 999 steps called Oniiwa Kaidan, believed to have been piled up overnight by an ogre. The steep stone steps can be challenging, so visitors are advised to use bamboo sticks for support. The shrine's entrance may be hard to find from the parking area.
What an amazing shrine, including the 999 steps called Oniiwa Kaidan, which is said that the ogre piled up overnight. He was supposed to do 1,000 steps to marry the woman in the village but didn't make it. The stone steps were really steep, so it would be better to grab the bamboo stick at the bottom if not confident. There was a slope way to come down from the top, but it was also steep. The entrance to the shrine was hard to be seen from the parking, so another couple and we both got lost. Fortunately, we met a gentleman to guide us to the entrance from the parking.

Kannonike Park is a stunning park and Hamami spot, which offers a delightful place to admire the cherry blossoms. With numerous trees creating a picturesque scene, it also boasts a small hill that provides sweeping views of Mimata, Miyakonojo, and Kirishima mountain. Accessible via gondola, visitors can enjoy sliding down an incredible sled track.
1st time visiting here, and it was an amazing experience. This park was huge to look around the cherry blossoms everywhere, so we drove around the park and finally parked at the main information centre.
It was on the 1st of April, and the cherry blossoms were just falling over. It was hard to decide where to stop for picnic, but we found the bench near the Sakura onsen. The ground was still wet from the rain. We looked over the beautiful view over the mountain and found the lift to the top, so we drove up to the opposite side of the park. It was 210 yen for return by the lift, and it was 420 yen if you took the luge ride to slide down on the way back. (Only by cash to pay the ticket) The lift was stopped quite often to support people to get on or off. The vew from the top was absolutely breathtaking. On the way back, we needed to wait for about 40 mins for the luge ride to slide down to the bottom. The lift was actually a better choice to enjoy the view, especially coming down to look over the Miyakonojo city and Kirishima mountain range. We couldn't see any view in sliding by the luge ride as it was quite fast. We will definitely be back next year!

More over it has a small hill where you can overlook Mimata, Miyakonojo and Kirishima mountain, you access by gondola 🚡 and there is a sled track to slide down that os incredible. Theere are to fairly large playgrounds on oposite sides of the park, a go kart track, and plenty of field to run and play. I noticed a camping area and some bungalows sort of chalets for rental. I went to Miyakonojo Mochio Cherry Blossom Festival.
There will be heavy traffic on the way to the parking lot...
I parked at the nearest paid parking lot (500 yen) from the venue, but it took me about an hour to park due to traffic jams. There is a free parking lot along the way (only during events), but you can park your car as it leaves, so if it's full you'll inevitably end up in a paid parking lot.
The row of cherry blossom trees that stretches for about 2km is very beautiful.
As expected, it has been selected as one of Japan's top 100 cherry blossom viewing spots, and many people visit it.
The cherry blossoms are blooming not only in the rows of cherry blossom trees but also in the park.
In terms of the number of stalls and the excitement of the stage, the Saitobaru Tumulus Group, which I went to the day before, was more exciting lol
The traffic had eased by the time we got home around 4pm, but it might get crowded again around the time of the light-up.
Personally, I think Saitobaru Tumulus Group and Hanadate Park are better for cherry blossom viewing, considering the waiting time at the parking lot and paid parking.

I received a goshuin stamp from Kamibashiragu Shrine, the guardian deity of Shimazu Soso. It seems that there is a writer stationed at the company office, so I was able to write directly.
There was also an original goshuin book.
I was surprised at the size of the first torii gate. After being founded 1016 years ago, it was moved to its current location in 1873, so the 1000th anniversary of its founding is approaching.
As it is said to be the main guardian of the shrine, it is a very impressive shrine with torii gates and shrine buildings. It is adjacent to Jinbashira Park, and when you visit the shrine, there is a flea market being held in the park, giving the area a heartwarming atmosphere.
There was a parking lot within the temple grounds, but I parked in the park's parking lot and took a walk.
The enshrined deity is

It was founded during the reign of Emperor Goichijo, the 68th Emperor of Japan.
Taira Tokimoto, who was in the position of Daikan from Dazaifu, came to Shimazu, the prefecture district of Hyuga Province, which was a landless wasteland.
He cultivated an area, opened Shimazu-so, said to be the largest in Japan, and donated it to Fujiwara Yorimichi, Kanpaku of Uji. When Kimoto ruled Shimazu-sho as a shokan, he followed his trust and enshrined the spirit of Ise, and it was built on September 9, 1965, at Masunuki, Umehoku, Nakago-mura, Moroken-gun. In the 4th year of Meiji, Miyakonojo prefecture councilor
Katsura Hisatake planned to move the shrine from Umehoku to the current Komatsubara in order to make it the main guardian shrine of the area, and a conspicuous relocation ceremony was held on October 28, 1896, which has continued to this day. The name of the shrine came from Kimoto's daughter, who was possessed by a god when she was 6 years old. She believed that she was the great god of Ise and wanted to protect all people in this land, so she immediately built a shrine and named it Shinbashira. It comes from the trust that says, ``Shishi.'' It was a quiet shrine. We also accept goshuin stamps. It was a relaxing place and I would like to go there again.

This is the remains of the mansion where the Shimazu family lived in Miyakonojo from the Meiji period onwards. Valuable materials passed down to the Shimazu family are also stored and displayed.
If you just want to take a walk around the gardens, you can look around for free. There is a fee to tour the Miyakonojo Shimazu Folklore Museum and the main house.
The folklore museum stores a large number of valuable materials, paintings, and crafts, including national treasures. However, the exhibition space is not that large and the explanatory text is unique, so it may be difficult to understand the value unless you take a closer look.
I think the video footage, which summarizes the history of the Miyakonojo Shimazu family in a compact manner, is easy to understand.
As for the main house, you can tour a fairly wide area inside the building. The highlight is the bedroom where His Majesty the Emperor stayed, but the spacious floor plan and beautiful garden view make it seem like a Shimazu family residence.
It's a must-see place when you come to Miyakonojo.
