The Fureai Ranch is a suitable place to visit for those who are physically fit and equipped with a touring bike. It is advisable to have a decent low gear and general fitness to climb with the bike, although walking it up is also an option. The advantage of ascending with a bike is that you can later descend via a different route, adding variety to your experience.
Great view, worth the trip! It seems that during the summer season they sell jersey milk's icecream.
Mantas Jakelaitis — Google review
I climbed with my touring bike definitely only recommend that if you have decent low gear and general fitness though you could walk it up with the bike I suppose. Benefit of going up with bike is that you can go up, then down later via different route for variety.
Nothing overly special about this farm though you can get pretty close to the cows and calfs if lucky. Decent sights of the area in good weather. I also used this as a visit spot to spend bit of time waiting for the clouds to clear (if you time well clouds can disappear during afternoon)
I gave it 4 stars mainly because this is the last stop for toilet or drinks before the hike and crater loop so I assume most will get here on the way up.

Visited here by bike. It was so hard. Anyway you can see and touch some cows. You can eat very tasty ice cream but summer only. I couldn't eat because it's early spring.

Really unique place to visit as it is a ranch halfway up a volcanic mountain. Awesone views & we were able to feed the cows. It was July but unfortunately they were not selling their Jersey ice cream and that was a bummer.

Sokodo Beach is a unique destination for nature lovers, featuring dark sand and convenient shower facilities. It is renowned for its sea turtle sightings and excellent snorkeling opportunities, with an abundance of sealife visible just a few feet from the shore. While not your typical sandy beach, Sokodo Beach offers an unforgettable experience for swimming enthusiasts. Its black sand adds to the allure of this popular attraction, which attracts many visitors seeking to observe sea turtles and other marine creatures in their natural habitat.
Good relaxing place, but the security is bit laking

Nice clean green emerald water, but can get dirty with plastics and other debris... Volcanic beach with black sands is tiny. Mountain view is nice. Parking and clean toilet and shower amenities are a nice add. Can be a good star viewing spot at night, although I found the stars to be not so shiny after all.

(Translated by Google) Hachijojima's beaches are often rocky, but Sokodo Beach is the only artificial sand beach on the island, and is crowded with many swimmers every summer.
There is also a terropod placed offshore to suppress the waves, making it relatively calm for swimming.
The reason why Sokodo is so popular is that it is right next to the port after getting off the cruise ship, and there is also a mud pool where even small children can play safely.
What's more, it's a summer tradition to see energetic children diving from the central embankment, and it's also a diving spot where you can directly enter the beach.
Even if you don't have diving qualifications, please try snorkeling in this area, as you can not only see beautiful coral reefs but also encounter sea turtles.
However, the ocean currents are fast and dangerous beyond the offshore flag, so please be careful not to go over it.
In the past, there were many beach houses, but now there are only one or two.
Passion juice and passion shaved ice are recommended.
Please try it.

I wasn't expecting much, but I could see whales!
The taxi driver told me, ``You can see whales every day - I recommend Nanbara Senjojiki!'' and I did as he told me.
With the bread I bought at the bakery in the morning in hand, I wandered around in a raging storm while looking out at the sea in a daze.
Something...is it only raining in that place? ? When I thought there was a place like that, I saw Zaboon and a whale!
I can't help it! I screamed.
It looks like she's squirting when she breathes.
After that, I was able to see several groups of them 3-4 times.
And the ultimate part is the whale jumping... .
It was like slow motion.
Jumping is rare, even the taxi driver said he had never seen one before.
Senjojiki is great, but I never expected to see whales so close. .
Good memories.

Mt. Hachijo-Fuji Hiking Trail Entrance is located on Hachijo Island, accessible by air or overnight passenger ship from Tokyo. The island boasts clear aquamarine waters known as "Hachijo Blue" and is a popular scuba diving spot for seeing sea turtles. Visitors can explore Uramigataki Waterfall and hike Mt. Hachijo-Fuji for stunning 360-degree views, especially during the annual Freesia Festival in spring.
I climbed Hachijo-Fuji from sea leave to the top. I started my hike from the ferry port to the summit. There’s actually a track that starts from behind the Hachijo Airport but is impossible to use because is extremely overgrown, so follow the main road up to the mountain circular road, bare right (opposite direction to the Furenai Ranch) and after few minutes walk along the road you’ll find the Hachijo-Fuji trail is on your left. The hike is easy but in constant ascend, I discouraged hiking during a hot summer day, since there’s not much shade and a lot of concrete.
This hike is one of the most stunning that I’ve done, the view from the top is really something. Unfortunately, I couldn’t finish the rim walk due the strong wind, I could barely stand up, and for safety reasons after 15 minutes I dedicated to turn back. There is also a short hike that leads to a shrine inside the crater, don’t skip it!
American Coffee — Google review
Amazing walk when you are on the top, the first part is quite rough and uninteresting, but after 35 min of this, it’s breathtaking...around the crater, you walk for about 1h20 if you take your time, don’t do this walk with a rainy weather, it’s probably very slippery and quite dangerous

Beautiful hiking, steps are a bit worn down so wear good shoes! About 45 minutes to the top followed by an hour or so to walk around the caldera and take in the views! Then 20 minutes to descend
Fabio Salvioni — Google review
On a sunny day it's amazing! The crater is fascinating and the view over Hachijojima and the ocean is stunning. On a clear day you can see Miyakejima and Aogashima in the distance too.
Info I wish I'd known:
- From the car park closest to the top, it's a 2 or 3 hour roundtrip up to the crater, all the way around and back
- You have to climb 1280 steps to the crater. The view gets progressively better and the flora changes so it's not too boring. There is a slope alongside the big, uneven stone steps. Going down is surprisingly easy and quick.
- The path around the crater is narrow, unpaved, and sometimes there's a very steep slope on both sides. I am afraid of heights and it was a little scary but not impossible. Go slowly and use your hands if you need to.
- Because of this, I would avoid very windy and rainy days, it could be dangerous and you won't get a great view.
- There's a little path that goes inside the crater but it's easy to get lost. The shrine in the undergrowth is easy to find and lovely though.

The hike itself is more of a tall building with no elevator experience just with the added beautiful nature and outside. You have to climb over a 1000 stairs or something to reach the summit. Worth it nevertheless. The summit opens a superb view of vastness and there is a trail to follow to go around the summit itself.

Karataki Waterfall is a picturesque tourist spot that requires a wide-angle viewfinder to capture its entirety. The average water volume adds to its charm. Upon initial observation, the hole located beside the waterhole may be mistaken for a wind vent, but it is actually an artificially dug passage adjacent to it. This cliff can serve as a strategic fortification when connected with other moats. Research suggests that rather than being excavated for sulfur retrieval, the tunnel was likely created intentionally.

It was quite a walk from the airport. Taxis and rental cars seem to be the main way to get around the island.
As you walk through the city, you will pass through private houses.
It would be inconvenient without Google's help.
Some of the names on the signboards along the road are related to the Ukita family, but it is said that many of them are descendants of vassals sent as representatives of the Kanto Kanrei Uesugi clan during the Sengoku period. It would be best to visit this site along with the nearby ruins of Hideie Ukita's residence.

(Translated by Google) This is the grave of Hideie Ukida, one of the Five Elders under the Toyotomi government. Hideie Ukita fought as the main force of the Western army at Sekigahara, but due to his allies turning over and his military strength decreasing due to family disturbances, he was defeated as a general. After the Battle of Sekigahara, he was hidden by the Shimazu family, but as the pursuit became more severe, he entrusted himself to the Tokugawa family. The Tokugawa family ordered Hideie Ukita to be banished to the island and confined to Hachijojima.
Hideie was exiled to Hachijojima when he was 34 years old, and lived there until his death at the age of 83. I don't think life on Hachijojima was comfortable for Hideie, who spent his youth as a court official in the center. However, he refused pardon through the intercession of the Maeda family (his wife was a Maeda princess), and his descendants prospered here, so perhaps it was a good thing for him to spend the rest of his life.
It is said that even after Hideie, people who committed crimes were banished to the island one after another and returned to the island.
This grave seems to have been relocated from its original location, and it is unclear whether the remains were buried there, but it gives a very historical feeling of sadness and romance.

The colorful freesias were beautiful and looked like they had been carefully taken care of. It seems that the scent differs depending on the color, and the white flowers have been improved and are different from other petals. Freesia with Hachijo Fuji in the background is a spectacular sight to see. Are you from a club? was wearing a Kihachijo kimono and playing the drum. I was able to not only see the flowers, but also enjoy the sounds, which was a valuable experience. Although I wasn't able to actually pick the freesias, I was able to take home the flowers that were already bundled. You can also take home up to 20 bulbs.
