Zuihōden Temple is a significant site in Sendai, Japan, serving as the mausoleum of Date Masamune, a prominent feudal lord from the Edo period. The temple features intricate and colorful carvings on its main building, which was rebuilt in 1979 to maintain its magnificent appearance. Surrounded by a serene environment with tree-lined paths, it offers a comfortable walking experience for visitors.
This is a memorial with beautiful mausoleums for the Date clans of three generations.
The earthquake on March 16th, 2022 gave big damages here in Sendai. Here Garden Stone Lanterns had fallen down everywhere.

It wasn't mentioned, anywhere in English, that the main mausoleum, Date Masamune, was closed for renovation.
Big letdown. Other parts of the park was a peaceful and serene walk. Have walking legs ready, some slopes to get to the entrance and steps to overcome. If only, during the restoration, they have have the boulder steps narrower, the builders and now the visitors, would step up more easily 😅.

Very peaceful area with lovely stone walking paths between the historical shrines and burial mausoleum of Date Masamune and his relatives. Lovely photo opportunities of memorials as well nature. Walked up from Sendai Station and was an easy 25 minutes. Lots of others caught the public bus up to the foot of the hill. There is parking Iot if you wish to drive. Cafes around the place for coffee and refreshments. Entry was very reasonable, about 600 yen from memory for entry ticket. Lovely big trees and beautifully looked after shrines. Lots of history about Date and his family. Well worth a visit.

Informative and impressive; reconstructions of the original buildings seem to preserve many of the features. Small museum shows off some of the burial treasures recovered during excavations preceding reconstruction, but more information on Date Masamune’s life (and the Date clan) in English would have been appreciated.

Very beautiful temple on the hill.
Its about 30 mins walk from Sendai station.(google map somehow took me to the route through cemetery in the back ,like the hill behind apartment buildings. I thought I was lost !
Then I realize there is another straight way when we walk out the otherside which there is a road for the car)
Ticket office is at entrance. Reasonable price. Peaceful place.
FYI: Alot of steps to get up the hill to get there. Cobblestone walkway. And then you have to walk down too. So make sure you have good knees and wear comfortable shoes.

A must visit site in Sendai. The beautiful and decorative mausoleums of the Date Family are truly awe inspiring. The grounds are peaceful and shady. Don’t miss the small museum that displays original and replica items from the burial sites that were excavated after the sites were destroyed in World War II. You can take a taxi or drive to the site. Pay the entrance fee at the gate. A fair number of stairs and not handicapped accessible.

Our first stop on the Loople Sendai, Zuihōden is a likely destination when exploring Sendai. And deservedly so. An interesting complex as a whole, the focal point being the mausoleum itself. Usual entry fee applies, however be sure to present your Loople Pass for a discount. Plenty of stairs and inclines, so be sure to wear decent walking shoes.

Another great sight to visit in Sendai.
Zuihōden Temple is just in the middle of nature.
You have to buy tickets though.
It's only 570yen. It's reasonable enough for me.

This place is in such a nice setting all around, you can get a taxi straight to the Temple though if the weather is nice it's absolutely worth walking to it. Once you get there its a small fee to get in though they will provide you an information pamphlet which are available in a range of languages and the place itself looks so nice.

It's a rebuilt one, Tang or Song dynasty influenced style temple to be exact. Crazy that in the past, when boss/master past away, his employees follows him to an end. I mean, get a life dude.

As far as I understand it's more of a mausoleum than a temple and that a temple is below it on the hill. Beautiful detailed wood designs and painting. The most intricate historical building I've seen so far. Definitely recommended to plan a trip here. Easy to reach by bus but you have to climb uphill a bit.

Zuihōden Temple is located on the west side of Sendai city. Visitors can easily reach it by the LOOPLE Bus. It is where the daimyo, Date Masamune, rests eternally. Unlike typical Japanese temples, Zuihōden stands out with its unique design. Its main theme blends black and gold, but what catches the eye are the vibrant colors that adorn the temple. This design has been applied to other similar temples within the area which houses the remains of Masamune’s son and grandson.
If you want to understand more about Date family, there is a small museum right next to the main temple. The museum displays the personal artifacts belong to the Date family.
Please note that the entry fee of the temple is 570JPY. Highly recommended for those interested in Japanese history or want to explore more about Sendai.

Zuihoden (瑞鳳殿, Zuihōden) is the mausoleum of Date Masamune, one of the most powerful feudal lords of the Edo Period (1603-1868). Masamune was the first in a long line of Date lords to rule over Sendai from Aoba Castle. His son and grandson, Date Tadamune and Date Tsunamune, are entombed in nearby mausoleums, while other descendants are laid to rest in less elaborate graves and tombs.

This historic location is situated in a forested area, offering a serene and comfortable environment that is ideal for exploring while learning about history. However, it is important to note that the location is elevated and requires climbing a significant number of stairs. Therefore, it may not be suitable for individuals who have difficulty with stairs.
National Treasure Osaki Hachiman Shrine is a serene 17th-century Shinto shrine complex nestled in a forested setting. Founded by feudal lord Date Masamune, the shrine showcases the splendid Momoyama-era architecture and culture. Adorned with intricate carvings and metal fittings, it offers a glimpse of the Gongen-zukuri style typical of that period. The Main Hall, designated as a National Treasure, features distinctive black lacquer and gold leaf decorations.
The beautiful shrine with the architectureof the Momoyama period (1573-1603) .

Definitely worth going if you're in Sendai ! I walked there and took the bus back, both were fine. The Shrine was beautiful and a volunteer who spoke a bit English came up to me and gave me explanations. Also the entrance is free.

It's a beautiful shrine but..if you're sightseeing, don't come here on new years day! They cordoned off all the landmarks and set up a "mass praying" station instead. The signs were also very confusing - 参拝順路 and 参拝帰路 were pointing in the same direction. I saw many others that were going in circles like me as well.

This shrine is famous and absolutely beautiful with stunning views. You'll need to climb some stairs to get to the main area, but if you can't take stairs, there's an easier entrance from the car park.
You can hop on the loop bus or by the route 870 bus, (If you are taking the 870 bus, then you can get down near the car park entrance)
If you are taking the stairs I would recommend 45 mins for the visit. It's a beautiful spot for everyone to enjoy.

Amazing place. I love the atmosphere. It's a must go Shrine if you are visiting Sendai area and you can get with JR pass to the closest station and just a 15 minutes walk you'll get to the shrine. I was lucky enough to see a festival there with red lanterns and street food. So magical and beautiful not very busy like big cities but worthy a visit. 😍

Free to visit this shrine. Easy access, especially by using loople bus. The loople bus stop exactly in front of the shrine. The gate is very big and it's quite far to go inside.
There's omamori shop next to the shrine inside this place.

Osaki Hachiman Shrine is located in the west side of Sendai city. It is a beautiful shrine that has similar design with Zuihōden Temple. The shrine features a combination of black and gold as its primary theme. Additionally, lighter colors are cleverly incorporated to enhance its visual appeal.
As you approach the shrine, the road leading to it is equally attractive. Lanterns were hanging along path, creating a serene atmosphere.
During your visit, keep an eye out for the chickens. You might encounter chickens wandering around the shrine grounds.
Overall, Osaki Hachiman Shrine is worth a visit for its distinctive design and relaxing atmosphere.

Osaki Hachimangu is a small, but beautiful Shinto shrine, designated a national treasure (国宝) for being one of the oldest shrines made in the Azuchi-Momoyama-era architectural style, constructed in 1607. It is a gorgeous shrine dedicated to Hachiman, the Shinto god of war. It has a distinctive, striking coloration, but unfortunately, at the time I went it was adorned with additional dressings meant to accommodate the huge crowds travelling there to pray for the new year.
I guess that means I’ll just have an excuse to come back again...

Aoba Castle Honmaru Hall, also known as Sendai Castle, is a national historic monument located on a hilltop. Built 400 years ago by Date Masamune, it stands as a symbol of Sendai's prosperity. Although the original castle no longer exists, visitors can still see remnants such as the outer stone walls and guard tower. The site offers spectacular views of the city and on clear days, even the Pacific Ocean.
One of my fav. Place when I want to take a small break from my work, I visit here quite a lot!
I was there on New Year Count down as well 😂🌟✨🌸.
For reviews, check others’ not mine! All i can see is that it is one of my spot for hang out! I feel attracted to one of the eagle statue that stand erected and has escaped all natural disasters (mostly earthquakes). It is one of the power spot!
The castle ruins are easily reached by the local sightseeing bus “Loople Sendai” which does a circuit around the city centre of Sendai. But otherwise, It’s a walking distance (20-30 min walk from Tohoku university, Katahira campus).
I love the view of Sendai city from there. The castle hill overlooking the Sendai city is just popular for its panoramic night views but you can come here anytime to enjoy beautiful view by yourself or with your lover. I have tried several times :)
Food court is there for a little refreshment 🥗🥙🍜🍣🥟🧇🧂🥤, I love zunda shake there.

The ruins of Aoba Castle which was built by Date Masamune over 400 years ago. I recommend visiting near sunset or sunrise so you can take in the beautiful scenic views of Sendai. You can still see some of the Castles historic walls, a turret, and the old foundation.

Cool place to learn about the history of Sendai and the castle ruins.
Also cool to learn about the founder of the city.
The original route is closed off but goes via the Sendai City Museum and it takes you up a path to the top.
Ignore Google Maps for now until the original route is back!

We stopped at the Sendai Castle area. We took the city bus and we would suggest for you to pay the day's pass instead of paying one stop with th IC card. Spend the day and be ready to hop on and hop off at the interesting sights. We went on Monday and unfortunately many of the sights were closed. The other downside was there were lots of tourists and not enough busses. Otherwise an ideal transportation as there are many ups and downs and quite difficult to walk the distance.

The Road to the castle is very steep and slippery when rainy. In case you didn't know: there is no standing castle, it burned down to the ground. But you can make a VR tour if you want to. Besides that there isn't really much to do, but the view over the city is pretty nice and the Zunda Shake (Milkshake with Soybeans) tastes amazing! Like Vanilla Ice with a hint of Hazelnut. And there is a very detailed Samurai/Horse Statue.

This place is huge with lots of spots (museums, gift shops, food stalls, temples, etc.) and it's free! The view of Sendai City from above and the Date Masamune statue are the main attractions of this place, imagining the sunset from up here must be very beautiful! You can get here via the Sendai loople for 260¥ one way, or you can walk from the Tohoku University Kawauchi campus for about 15-20 minutes.

Visited on a Saturday yet it wasn't overly crowded. Sometimes they hold costumed shows here (no translation) but otherwise this offers a great view of the city. Unfortunately the statue of Masamune was under maintenance when we visited but there was plenty of other things to look at.
Definitely worth the visit - the gift shop is quite sizeable as well.
You can take the exit from the rear to get to the trains station or visit the nearby amusement park (after a decent uphill walk)

Provides a nice view of the city but on the castle site itself is nothing to see except two statues. The shrine next to it is only okay too. The statues are facing north, meaning taking a picture from the front is going to be against the sunlight, very unfortunate.

The ruin itself was nothing spectacular. The view of Sendai was nice. It is worth to make a bus stop to have shot stop. But it is not worth to take a taxi to visit this site. It cost us 2000 Yen one way from city because the main entry was closed.

Amazing site of Sendai Castle with great views of the amazing city of Sendai. The real attraction is the statue of Date Masamune, samurai warlord and founder of Sendai. While there isn't much "castle" to see (it's mostly foundation), there is still a lot to see and do with some temples on site and markers explaining the various monuments.
Recommend that you get there early to beat the crowds, and be sure to swing by the large and well-stocked gift shop for souvenirs. Also, if able, I recommend walking the ~2km from the train station to the castle. It's a nice and relaxing walk, plus it affords the opportunity to walk by the Sendai City Museum and Sendai International Center.

The site of the former castle of the Date clan is often described as a must visit, but I found it somewhat lacking.
The view of Sendai is nice to have, but not.very spectaculair, and other than the statue of Date Masamune, there's not much there.
We tried a zunda shake, but it was quite an expensive vanilla milkshake with bits of soy beans in it (not really worth the name zunda).
The gift shop is nice, and not too overpriced. But the food in the stalls and eateries (the ones that were open anyway) was massively overpriced though.
I'd still say it is a must visit, but I'd say, don't expect too much (although I did get a juvenile laugh out of the anatomical correctness of Date-sama's horse)

Rissyakuji Temple, also known as Yamadera or the Mountain Temple, is a centuries-old Buddhist temple located on a mountaintop outside of Yamagata City. The temple was founded in the 9th century and has been visited by famous haiku poet Matsuo Basho. To reach the temple, visitors must climb 1,100 steps along a mountain path that offers panoramic views. The temple is especially beautiful during autumn when the leaves change color.
First of all. If it is winter, get GOOD SNOW SHOES. The past is extremely slippery to the extent you cannot stand straight if you wear normal shoes. Stairs are non existent and you will have to crawl up holding the rails. Unless you have good shoes. Coming down is bad no matter what. Just slide your way down without losing control. The free shoes they give at the base are useless. Both in terms if heat protection & grip.
The view from the side temple before the main area is amazing. The main temple is pretty meh. The side temple has a overlook area looking into the valley. It is stunning. Is it worth the death climb? Who knows. It was fun.

This picturesque temple has become one of my favorite locations in Japan. The journey up the mountain requires you to climbs countless stairs but the statues, carvings, shrines, and nature that surround you make the impending cardiovascular explosion worth every step. Once you reach the top you are treated to an astonishingly beautiful view of the valley. I went in November and the trees were all showing their autumn splendor.
If you are able to make the hour long train ride from Sendai, then you should seize the opportunity to make a lasting memory at this magical temple.

Hiking through the cedar forest to see the various shrines is fun and provides some great views of the area! Don't be intimitated about the 1100 steps of stairs. Take your time and you will be rewarded. People say this is one of the most beautiful place to visit and experience in Japan, yet it is so underappreciated. Perhaps it is a little hard getting to without a car, but the flip side is that it's not too crowded. Take your time, take frequent stops along the way, breath in the fresh air, enjoy and meditate on whatever spiritual journey that comes to you - it's a hugely and surprishgly rewarding experience.
People say it normally takes 1.5 hours to go up to the top and back down. I took a full 4 hours - it was right after a heavy rain so the air was so fresh and sweet. A few of the cherry trees were blooming. It was quite magical.
Oh, highly recommend taking a couple of hiking sticks with you. It really helped my old knees going up and down those steps.

It takes ~30 minutes to hike up the stairs very slowly with breaks, so it's a definitely on the easier side of moderate hikes at least in fall with better temperatures to keep cool. Amazing shrine/temple with a quiet little town to walk around. I rode the train from Sendai to Yamadera, which took about an hour, and got there at about 1:30PM. The train ride was not crowded, and takes a really cool route through mountain forests and past some small stations.
Unfortunately, I arrived in Yamadera just as about 3 or 4 busloads of tourists unloaded, so the walk up the mountain was slow and crowded. Once at the top, it was again crowded and full of people taking selfies and glamour poses, which killed any kind of peacefulness that I was seeking. I went back down to the start and waited it out a bit; once all the other tourists departed, it was very nice and enjoyable and was able to wander around alone. The shops at the bottom are very quaint and sell souvenirs, and everyone was very friendly.
I highly recommend checking out Yamadera, but suggest going early in the morning or late afternoon to beat whatever crowds might show up. If you're staying in Sendai, it's a can't miss!

This place is absolutely beautiful. The entrance fee (very cheap, around 500 yen if i recall correctly) and the long, hard climb is incredibly worth it. The views of the mountains are spectacular, and the best time to go is during fall leaves time. Everyone else knows this, though, so it may be a bit busy.
Unfortunately, it is completely inaccessible to those who can’t climb a lot of stairs.

I visited as a little spot of sightseeing following some climbing the previous day. There are 1,000 steps to ascend so I would recommend footwear that is appropriate, as well as bring along some form of hydration as there is only one vending machine near the top.
The view from the pagoda at around the 800 step mark offers a pleasant panorama of the Yamadera area.
The entrance fee is just 300 yen, located at the foot of the mountain as a part of the main shrine.

I've always wanted to visit Yamadera, the thousand-year-old mountain temple 350 kilometers (220 miles) from Tokyo. Basho, one of Japan's most famous haiku poets, even wrote about it. Climbing the 1,015 stone steps to the summit was worth it for the spectacular views. I don't know if I'll ever have the chance to visit again, but I'm so glad I did.
Ryo Flying — Google review
I came during winter, and braved the slippery, snowy, wet treacherous climb (then descent) to get to Yamadera. I was justly rewarded with beautiful views and the experience of having accomplished something special. It rained, then snowed, so I probably picked the worst weather, but the views are worthwhile seeing no matter the season. I couldn't access the closed trails but the rest of it was lovely.
After you finish your climb, you should definitely reward yourself with a hearty bowl of noodles at a nearby place. There's a restaurant with 4.5 stars on google maps at the foot of the mountain on the shopping street - I highly recommend it.
The JR local train is awfully infrequent - when you get to Yamagata station, go inside the shelter on the platform and learn the schedule so you can time yourself to catch your train. The trains towards Sendai are frequent enough, but going the opposite direction, only one arrives per hour.

It is said that about 500,000 LED lights are lit ✴️
The period is until the 25th.
It was filled with so many people😃
Just an illuminated tunnel
🚶♀️When walking, drive on the left
so there will be no collision
I recommend it🎵
Unfortunately it was snowing
This snow combined with the light looks so magical❗
⤴️⤴️So beautiful✨✴️✨
It will be a nice walk ❤️

It was very crowded, but I was able to see the tree-lined avenue lit up while walking slowly. It was beautiful, but it felt lonelier than before😅 The path was to the left, but I felt like if there was something in the middle, it wouldn't get messy!

Rakuten Mobile Park Miyagi, a 23,000-seat baseball stadium, has been the home of the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles since 1950. The stadium offers an exciting opportunity to watch amazing games and even meet and greet players from the home team. Additionally, it features box seats ideal for groups and a small adjacent amusement area called Smile Glico Park.
Always lovely to be in a baseball stadium in Japan. Though it happens to be our favourite team, it is a real pleasure seeing the crowd cheering as supporters for their team.

Formally Kleenex Stadium. This is a fairly large, family friendly, clean stadium. Transportation to the stadium drops you off right off in front of the stadium on game days and nearby on other days.
The Sendai track and field stadium is located right next door making for a very wide, open venue with a very diverse crowd.

Nikka Whisky Sendai Factory is a must-visit for whisky enthusiasts. While not as grand as the Yoichi Distillery, it offers unique facilities and a well-organized shop and tasting area. Free tours are available, but only in Japanese. Despite the irregular transportation schedule, the experience is worth it. Visitors can sample three whiskies after the tour and purchase exclusive distillery bottles. Consider combining this visit with a trip to Yamadera for an unforgettable Japanese adventure.
Very interesting tour of the factory and whiskey making process. The gardens around it are really well kept. Tour is done very efficiently with English commentary. The gift shop has interesting souvenirs and regular tourist-trap stuff. Nice thing is that you get a tasting of the whiskey.

When we arrived, we did not have a reservation for the tour, but we were lucky enough to join one quickly! However, these places do tend to get busy, especially on the weekend, so I would recommend making a reservation in advance. Drivers cannot drink, but they have juice and tea if you’re the DD. The shop sells a variety of bottles in all sizes that you can purchase to take home.

Detail walk through of the history of Nikka Whisky and process of making them. Very surprise the level of detail they doing at no cost. Pre booking is a must and the final whisky were a great way to try the 2 distinct flavor. Even at this tasting were very well thought of for people who cant consume due to various , they have prep non alcohol beverages. The shop of course a must for whisky lovers to buy some of the rare to find ones, Limited to here only beverages

On the far outskirts of Sendai is a Nikka Whisky distillery and they also offer a free tour with whisky tastings at the end. Definitely a great place to spend a couple of hours, taking in the tour and having a couple sips of their locally-made whisky. Of particular note is their Apple Whisky which was so sweet, fruity, and amazing I had to order some.

I stopped by Sendai for a trip and found this place near by so decided to stop here. Much much easier to get tour booked than Yoichi distillery. This one is much bigger and more too see too which Yoichi got more history to it. Tour itself is free and u get whiskey tasting at the end of 30-40min tour. Tour is all in Japanese but they give out English and Chinese audio guide to go along if you ask the receptionist. It’s walking tour and it include light up and down the stairs so keep that mind if you have bad knee. Parking is also free and they got bar and big gift shop too. Very fun place to go if you are interested in whiskey distilleries. Highly recommended

Although we didn’t join the tour around the distillery, it was amazingly good experience to pay a short trip to this miyagikyo whiskey distillery. We tried the single cask for 1,000yen and it just tasted superb and memorable! Must try! Also visited the storage #15 with many casks located, a good spot for appreciating the storage atmosphere. Today, with sunny spell, clouds, and snow a mix of different scenery within 1 hour, it’s amazing!

Beautiful distillery in the serene country side of Miyagikyo! The free distillery tour is great to learn about the art of whisky making and best thing is you get a free whisky tasting at the end of the tour!!!
NB: there is no aged whisky at this distillery only some limited editions made at the distillery.

Come on a weekend when they provide shuttle buses to and from the Sakunami station. Professional tour that is completely free. The guide speaks in Japanese only, but an audio guide is provided for foreigners, also free. There is also whiskey tasting of 3 different whiskeys to finish off the tour.
Ricky Chua — Google review
My partner and I had visited back in February.
If you decide to make the walk from Sakunami Station rather than drive, it’s about 25 minutes on foot. Mid-February, there’s snow, but I thought it was scenic.
We went without making reservations, but they were able to fit us into a tour group within the hour. (It probably helped that we went on a weekday.) There are audio guides for English and a few other languages too. It’s interesting to see the setup of a Whiskey factory. The location of the factory was very charming too, especially with the snow.
Three kinds of whiskey samples are given at the end. There are also juices, teas, water, and ice—either for mixing with the samples or just drinking.
The gift shop is right next to the sampling area. It was funny to see people from our tour group LOADING up their baskets to the brim with souvenirs haha. There are some whiskeys exclusive to this distillery for purchase here.
There’s a bar right next to it where you can pay to try some of their other beverages, even ones they might not carry in the souvenir store. My partner paid ~400円 and had a shot of Taketsuru 17. (“GOOD stuff” in his words)
We were bumbling tourists, but the staff were all very accommodating. They showed us the way to the actual reception area when we took a wrong turn into the gift shop. Before we could ask how to hand back the audio guides at the end, they proactively offered to collect them from us. One staff member even tried making recommendations to us with gesturing and our limited language comprehension. Patient and helpful people here!
A very good trip if you couple it with a walk to get there too.

Like all distilleries, this place is cool. A few things of note before you make the trek out here though:
-They do not do English tours (at least, not without a special reservation).
-They do not sell their special blended scotch on site (but you can try it in the tasting).
The gift shop was otherwise nice and well stocked, and the tasting pours were generous for the prices.
I’m glad we went, but I would not count this as a must go unless you really love the brand.
David Mueller — Google review
Lovely whisky, always comes in pairs from Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries and sometimes in a blend from both.
Delicious, delicate, and just stunning in all bottlings.
My fav is Nikka Taketsury 21 though almost impossible to get these days!
Petko Petkov — Google review
Wow Nikka Miyagikyo distillery is just wonderful!
I took a trip during the week from tokyo to Sendai early morning, arrived at Sakunami station… what a beautiful and cute station.
As I walked out, there was nothing around, no convenience store or taxis. So I walked around 20-25 mins to get to the distillery. Beautiful walk, especially when you arrive at the Nikka grounds… you can smell the fermentation in the air.
The tour was beautiful, they walk you through different parts of the factory, and of course you get a tasting in the end. Followed by the bar and gift shop.
You’re only allowed to try 3 different drinks at the bar.
I was pretty much there a day after the release of the old famous Yoichi 10 years old.
I had the chance to try the old and the new side by side!
Wonderful experience. I’ll def go back there again soon!
Highly recommended

To be honest tasting was ok and the only age statement available for tasting was the single cask miyagiko 10 year not much to see drink eat or buy unlike hakushu and yamazaki snacks not very appetizing even when they are paid. Chocolate was not bad but no videos only pics allowed even in the dark storage room where there is nothing to see

Reluctantly giving this place 3 stars.
To start things off - the compound is beautiful. A bus picked us up from the nearby train station which was nice (only comes once every 30-45 mins, assuming they have a bus there for every reception). I didn’t do the factory tour because it was in Japanese and I’ve been to enough whiskey distilleries to know what they’d show us. That and you can download an English app specific to Nikka Factory that goes through all the different parts of the tour. Anyway, I’m here to try out the whiskey. I went to the tasting room and picked 3 of the basics - about $2 each. The classic Nikka, a pure malt, and a regional blend. Wasn’t a fan of the second 2. When I went back to try some of the more limited whiskeys, I was denied. Apparently only 1 order per customer per day, and a max of 3 tastings. Great sales strategy. They’re 1 for 3 on decent blends and now you expect me to go to the gift shop and buy your products that you won’t let me try ahead of time (by the way, The Nikka cannot be purchased from the gift shop). Not to mention this distillery is an hour outside of Sendai and the the place was half empty. This is more of a novelty than an actual tasting room. Suggestion to the owners to look up the point of a tasting room. In short retrospect, this is yet another superfluous Japanese rule that nobody has the balls to question.

located just 40 mins from Sendai downtown, the distillery is worth visiting. the atmosphere and environment provides a very different experience from that of the hustle and bustle of downtown Sendai.
Bruce Wu — Google review
Likely the most accessible Nikka Distillery for most visitors, however equally as enjoyable as the Yoichi Distillery in Hokkaido. Whilst the museum is nowhere near as impressive, the facilities are unique and the shop/tasting area is quite well set-up. Free tours (Japanese spoken only) which can be booked online (via .jp web) with three samples upon completion. Admittedly, the Yoichi whiskies were my favourite, but I did manage to score a Tsuru and the three distillery exclusives here. Can be a bit of a mission to get to (irregular train and bus service) and our return bus was late, meaning we were stuck at Sakunami for a while. I would highly recommend adding Yamadera to your trip after here, one of my favourite Japanese destinations to date!
Sendai Station is surrounded by a variety of second-hand clothing stores, offering everything from regular second-hand clothing to vintage pieces. The downtown area near the station features an arcade that makes it easy to explore even on rainy days. Additionally, there has been an increase in large-scale second-hand clothing stores in the area.
This station is busy like Tokyo almost, you can get all the things that you need around this area. There are lots of places to shop and eat!!

Sendai Station is a hot spot for tourists and locals alike, with a variety of shops and restaurants to suit your taste and budget. You can find everything from souvenirs and department stores to local delicacies and international cuisines.
One of the highlights of Sendai Station is the the row of restaurants that serve Sendai's famous grilled beef tongue. This is a specialty dish that is tender, juicy and flavorful. However, be prepared to wait in line, as these restaurants are very popular and often have long queues.
To conclude, like other Japanese major train stations, Sendai Station is more than just a transportation hub. It is a destination in itself, where you can experience the culture and cuisine of Sendai.

Sendai Station is a major junction railway station in Aoba-ku, Sendai, Miyagi, Japan. It is a stop for all Akita, Hokkaido, and Tohoku Shinkansen trains, the eastern terminus for the Senzan Line, and major stop on both the Tohoku Main Line and Senseki Line. It is located on the border between Miyagino and Aoba Wards in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture.
Norman Rabaýa — Google review
As most major japanese stations, busy, efficient and convenient. If you have a couple of hours for a meal I would recommend the east exit in the second floor where you can find plenty of good restaurants both within the station and in the nearby BiVi mall (to the left).
If you are in a hurry for shinkansen tickets, your best bet is one of the ubiquitous vending machines on the third floor, but if you need to speak to a human being the small service center in the second floor by the turnstiles is usually faster than the big service center in the third.

If you are not sure what to do around Sendai, my few personal recommendations are:
1. Riding on Hop-on Hop-off loop bus for the city tour which include many tourist attractive places.
2. Take a train to Matsushima bay area, get a boat ticket for sightseeing cruise to see many beautiful islands and finally enjoy fresh oyster around the pier area.
3. Half an hour away from Sendai via Shinkazen is a home of lovely Zao foxes(Zao's fox village).
4. Lastly, don't miss an original roasted beef tongue on the 3rd floor of Sendai Station.

The JR Sendai station despite how constantly busy it is, is clean, well-maintained and full of colors.
The Sendai subway station, however lifeless and colorless. The platform, too was not well-ventilated so waiting for the subway on a hot summer was tough.

A main station in Sendai city. There are various JR, subway and shinkansen lines as well. There are also many restaurants, konbini, and omiyage store like any other train station in Japan.
Yunisa Z — Google review
As per most major JR stations, Sendai is the hub of activity in the Sendai area hosting a seemingly endless selection of food and shopping options. Ended up here after numerous expeditions and still found ourselves in new areas. The centre of the station has a market-style set up with individual stalls selling local foods and souvenirs. Also home to what can be described as ‘Gyutan Alley’ offering different style of the local specialty with dine-in or takeaway options. If you’re after a Zunda shake, there are a couple of vendors here too. The raised platform system was also handy to access the different areas without waiting at traffic lights.

Only one hour and half by Shinkansen if traveling from Tokyo station. There are multiple floors that are filled with tons of shops and restaurants to choose from. They had a nice little local market set up in the middle of the station when I visited in October. I enjoyed my time here and even ate some delicious cow tongue on the 2nd floor before returning to Tokyo.
Akiu Great Falls is a stunning 55-meter cascade with a viewing deck and vibrant fall foliage. It's part of the Akiu Traditional Craft Village, where local artisans create hand-crafted goods like kokeshi dolls. The falls are considered one of Japan's best 100 waterfalls and are especially scenic in autumn. Visitors can walk down to the bottom along the river, bathe in negative ion energy, and appreciate this gem of a waterfall.
It's a beautiful place and is not that far from Sendai City. You can go by bus.

Loved this short hike. You can actually park closer to the falls if you want to go all the way down. It’s the parking by the bridge. Instead of going to the parking lot itself. But for me I didn’t mind the longer hike. It takes around 30 mins to get down and up round trip. There’s a temple and also some shops you can buy dango and fish from. The trail itself is well maintained. Love this experience.

Took a bus from Sendai stations bus depot bound for Akiu Otaki which was the easiest in my opinion, bus gives you 2 hours till it comes back.
Wasn't as busy as I assumed it would be. Would be careful of the steep stairs and you'll need to climb on rocks for the last few steps to the river.
Definitely worth it, the water is cool on this hot day (28c/83f) which is a nice reward for the journey.

I visited here on Nov 4th. The autumn leaves were awesome. There is a parking lot next to the main road and another one near to the path you walk to the water fall. The second one is small and you may not find a space. Both are for free. You can park your car to the main one and walk about 10 mins instead. There is an observation deck, restaurant, small shop, local goods etc. There is also a botanical garden, closes at 16:00 during winter season. There is a temple as well. The water fall is great and very tall. The color of the leaves complete the composition. A beautiful scenery, must see place if you are visiting Sendai.

It's good for a family trip because of a short time trekking tour and many places to take good pictures. People often gather at the main falls, without going to the another just 30 mins from there. A little bit tough with children but no problem with adults. Hope you guys can find it!

A wonderful stadium with high quality that lives up to its name.
The proximity to the subway station, the immersive private stadium, and the fact that all seats have a roof...The single-tier seating style gives a sense of unity, so there's nothing to complain about.

It is the home stadium of Vegalta Sendai of the J League and Mynavi Sendai of the We League. On that day, there was a greeting at the stadium after the final match of the We League, and after that the players were seated nearby to watch the game. I thought it was great that the Japan Football Association is trying to support teams from both leagues seamlessly. It seems like the Football Association wants to market itself as separate professional leagues, but teams that are well-run are like Sendai, who support teams from both leagues in the same organization. I feel like there are a lot of teams that think they're all the same except for the women's team.
Also, the stadium is amazing, and it's a football-only stadium within walking distance from Izumi Chuo Subway Station. It has a roof and the field is close, so it's easy to see.The stands are tall and not the zero-touch type that is popular these days, but it's the type that was popular a generation ago, but personally I don't like it. I prefer this to Zero Touch because I can see a wider field from a higher position.
Recently, the mayor of Hiratsuka, the home of Bellmare Hiratsuka, is angry that he was forced to propose a new stadium.I understand what he wants to say, but realistically, he should experience a football-specific stadium such as Sendai or Chiba's Fukuda Denshi Arena. Then, I felt that Hiratsuka Stadium was still far from being at a level that could be used as a professional stadium.

Located near the ruins of a samurai warrior's castle, Sendai City Museum is a treasure trove of the city's history and culture. The museum proudly displays authentic armor and helmets from Japan's Warring States era, generously donated by Sendai's Date clan. Visitors can also explore exhibitions on feudal lords in Sendai, the historic Keicho Embassy mission to Rome and Spain, as well as a special tribute to Chinese literary figure Lu Xun.
Have many great collection. Most of them of course tell the story of Sendai. They also provide a walkie talkie like device that contains english explanation of some of the collection for free

Most of the exhibits have an English translation, but it is usually basic and not much more than a sentence you could gleam from looking at the object itself. Otherwise the exhibits themselves are interesting, and you can easily spend 60-90 minutes here depending on how interested you are in history.
Kyle Slaughter — Google review
Fantastic, very spacious and had many employees and volunteers who were eager to explain the history behind the exhibits. Photos were allowed of most of the items, and there was an interactive area towards the end. The bathrooms were clean and souvenir shop appreciated. There was also a free cloakroom/locker service which alllowed us to enjoy the museum without carrying too many things around.

The Sendai City Museum had a wonderful overview of the history of the area. Starting with the first stone tools found in the area, but spending most of the time on how Date Masamune and his ancestors shaped the region. There were also wonderful exhibits on local art and arms, even though they were small. Most all of the museum had descriptions in both English and Japanese.
We spent about two hours here, which seemed to be enough time. Dont miss the "hands on" section, meant for kids but fun to walk through for everyone.

Great displays, some in English, about the history of Sendai and its founder feudal lord Date Masamune. Just the right size and located at the former third compound of the now gone castle. Use the path behind the museum to reach the castle, if you do not mind a steep hill and want to see more.

Nice history museum, mostly dedicated to the history of the Miyagi prefecture starting from Masamune Date. Not much English, but it is a local museum, and the audio guides may have helped. We enjoyed it regardless.
Sendai Mediatheque is a modern public library that offers books, audio-visual materials, and films. It also features an art gallery, cafe, and theater. The building is designed to be inclusive for people of different cultures and abilities. Its unique glass cube facade represents the integration of technology into contemporary spaces. The structure's interconnected levels are linked by skeletal tubes that run through the height of the building, symbolizing Sendai's embrace of the future.
We are glad we took the time to visit this building. We were able to visit Level 7, 5 and 1. Level 7, were studio rooms, but we saw pictures of the March 11, 2011 earthquake and tsunami on the building and Sendai. Very educational. We saw photo galleries in Level 5. The photos were from local artists and were worthy of a visit. Level 1 was also an interesting decoration. We learned about the architect and interior designs for every floor. It is the most interesting building to visit.

Sendai Mediatheque is located right next to Jozenji-dori. It is a versatile building that serves as both a public library and an exhibition space.
When I passed through Jozenji-dori, the unique architecture design of this building attracted my attention. From the outside, it appears as a massive glass box with intriguing, unconventional structures within. But step inside, and you’ll realize that these structures are actually elevators. It’s a clever blend of form and function.
While it is free to enter, during your exploration, please remember that many visitors are quietly immersed in their reading or study sessions. Please keep the noise level down and respect their peaceful experience.

One of the most important works of contemporary architecture in Japan and maybe Toyo Ito's best project.
Fantastic interiors and atmosphere, do not hesitate to visit the interior, you just need to ask for a badge and the entry level.

This building is undoubtably a visual orgasm for architects.
There are many free spaces that we can use for relaxing. However, for those who want to find a place to work with laptop, this place is not recommended at all. No free electricity plug even in the cafe area.
There is a design shop at the ground floor selling fancy stuffs.

I must admit, I would’ve walked passed this building if it wasn’t for its architecture. It caught my interest, which prompted me to check it out and find out that it was a community center. Good place to check out their library, some of the art they have displayed, and also views of Sendai on the top floor. The elevator can take you to the parking area, plaza, library, gallery, and even studio. The people there were also friendly.

The inside of the bus is a little smaller than a regular city bus, and when I got on it on a Saturday, it was packed. Perhaps because it's summer vacation, there are a lot of people using the bus, and if there are too many people, you may be asked to wait for the next bus. There may be a slight delay due to traffic conditions, and the bus may be full and you may not be able to board, so it is best to use it with plenty of time.

The atmosphere on the bus was good.
However, the driver's statements were contradictory.
It was crowded, so when I went to the last minute to stand near the exit of the bus, he told me not to stand because it was dangerous near the entrance. In the first place, that is the exit. So when I went back a little, they picked up more people from the exit, and they were standing even closer to the exit than where I was originally. If you're saying this for safety reasons, it's a mistake to add additional passengers. If you want someone to ride, you should say so.

The Sendai Umino-Mori Aquarium, located in the coastal area of Sendai City, is a stunning attraction that offers a warm and inviting atmosphere for tourists. The aquarium boasts large tanks filled with diverse marine life from around the world, as well as an impressive reproduction of Sanriku's abundant seawater resources. Largest aquarium in Tohoku. You learn the sea animals that make up the oceans of Japan and the world’s seas. It’s a fun learning experience, and don’t leave without watching the dolphin show at the stadium, where you get to see seals jump high and dolphins smash the water. I’d also get some snacks while there if you feel hungry. Tickets are ¥2040 for adult

Loved our stay there! Most of the aquariums were breath-taking but some were too small or not adequately furnished for the animals... The show was also good, you can enjoy it with the caramel popcorn ;) The prices were totally fine for what is offered there. There also some explanations in English. All in all, I can recommend coming here.

Nice cozy aquarium. Lots of parking space. The aquarium is not too big but not too small either. Perfect place to spend time on a rainy day. They have a small beluga whale, a couple of types of seals and dolphins. There is also a dolphin show but nothing extraordinary.

I consider myself an aquarium enthusiast, and have been to a fair amount here in Japan. While this is not the worst aquarium/exhibit I have been too, it wasn't the greatest. 3.5 stars.
The good: shows were a joy to watch, and the big main tank was jaw dropping.
The bad: most animals were in too small of an enclosure, like the sun fish, sea turtles, iguana and even the dolphin area was pretty small for the amount they are housing.
I can't speak for the commute via train, but driving was a breeze and there was free parking, and free restrooms outside the main building. The fee to get in was a little pricey, but for the time that I spent there, it was an okay value.

As we couldn’t get to Geibikei Gorge due to track closures, we searched around Sendai for another activity. Having had a brilliant experience at Kaiyukan, we thought we’d try Sendai Umino-Mori Aquarium which is only a short trip from Sendai Station. Lo and behold, Umino-Mori was equally as enjoyable, a modern aquarium with numerous types of animals and exhibits. We especially enjoyed the ‘Sparkling of Life’ show but the dolphin and seal show was next level! Make sure to sit in the front row as you’ll be right next to the dolphins. Only a few food options, but we walked to the nearby outlets for lunch instead. As usual, friendly staff and English map and translations throughout. Top activity for families. Tickets can be bought online in advance, via the vending machine out the front or at the ticket booth.

This is the largest aquarium in Northern Japan, so we considered visiting with our son who loves aquariums. But honestly we like the one in Osaka the most. It's a nice place to visit and has many interesting creatures, but considering its medium size, it is over-priced. The tanks are way too small for some animals and small jellyfish tentacles were all tangled up trying to be free which was so sad. The fish were beautiful, the seahorses were lovely, but I was very sad to see how little space the turtles had - they could not swim and the white and black dolphins deserved more space and the otter deserved some friends.

Pretty decent aquarium despite it is being smaller compared to other aquariums in Japan.
The daily show is top-notch, and definitely could not be missed if you want a full and satisfying experience.
The only downside is the condition of the displays. Some of them are dirty, and some of them are heavily condensed, making it hard to see or observe the animals. Routine maintenance and cleaning of the display are needed.

Yagiyama Zoological Park is located on the west side of Sendai city, offers an accessible day out for families and tourists. To reach the park, simply hop on the Tozai Line and disembark at Yagiyama Zoological Park station.
Upon arrival, My initial impression was that the park feels a bit dated. The facilities and overall setup appear to have weathered the years. Despite the slightly smaller enclosures compared to other zoos I’ve visited, the residents seemed lively and well-cared-for.
One highlight worth catching is the parrot and eagle demonstration. The staff engage with these magnificent birds, guiding them through impressive aerial maneuvers. It’s a delightful event for visitors of all ages.
In summary, Yagiyama Zoological Park may not be the flashiest zoo around, but it’s a decent spot for a family outing.

The quality of enclosures is a mixed bag. The macaque area is very large and accommodating with a lot of space for the animals as well as plenty of toys and enrichment. It is easily the best enclosure in the park. Other exhibits like the black bear, reptiles, and red panda ones are adequately sized with some form of enrichment. The other primate enclosures are a bit small and cramped, but most have some form of climbing equipment to keep the animals from getting too bored.
There are some animal enclosures split into 2 parts (one indoors, one outdoors) and while the outdoor ones have more space, the indoor enclosure for animals like the giraffes is always depressingly small. The capybara indoor area had four of them in a small section, and the water they were swimming in and drinking from was filled with their feces.
Easily the worst area was the polar bear enclosure. One bear was sleeping and didn't show any signs of neglect or stress, but the other was constantly pacing and engaging in repetitive behavior while drooling excessively and showing other signs of animal distress (vocalizing, pacing around the enclosure, panting). If you're going to house an animal like a polar bear, you HAVE to accommodate their needs: plenty of space, ice/fans to regulate the temperature when it's too warm for them, a large enclosure, and lots of enrichment. It was heartbreaking seeing that poor creature in such discomfort.
Isabella Tiberi — Google review
This zoo is honestly the worst zoo I have ever seen. Nearly all of the animals were showing signs of boredom/stress. The enclosures are WAY to small and run down. I have never cried at a zoo before but I was uncontrollably balling my eyes out witnessing the conditions these animals live in. The polar bear had multiple wounds, the monkeys know nothing but life inside of a cage, and the hippo enclosure is smaller than my living room and the giraffe was living on the side of a building on concrete. The list could go on and on. These animals need a major upgrade. The elephant keepers also had bull hooks on hand. I wish facilities such as these didn’t even exist. These animals deserve so much better and the care they are being given is unacceptable. Do not visit this zoo, it is not educational for any age group.

Aobayama Park, located in Sendai, is a historic park with a museum and a statue of the city's founder. The park features about 480 cherry blossom trees around the Sendai City Museum area, complementing the Sendai castle turrets. It also includes the ruins of Date family castle known as Aoba Castle Ruins, situated on natural fortresses on cliffs overlooking Longkou Valley and Hirose River.
Aobayama Park is a well-known tourist attraction located in the west side of Sendai city. It offers a quiet and relaxing environment for visitors. Inside the park, you'll find the Sendai City Museum (Under renovation until 31 Mar 2024), the Sendai Castle Ruins, and the Miyajiken Gokoku Shrine.
To reach Aobayama Park, you have a couple of options. If you are coming from Sendai City, a leisurely walk will lead you here. Alternatively, hop on the underground to the International Center Station.
Keep in mind that due to its hillside location, there's an upward walk of approximately 20 minutes from the entrance to the castle ruins. If you're up for some light exercise and want to enjoy scenic views, Aobayama Park is definitely worth a visit.

It is a beautiful climb (steep) and you get to the old castle, then a few more steps and you are before the statue that inspired the Star Wars character. Beautiful view of the city. Going down is a breeze and you will listen to the many birds hiding in the thick trees.

I believed this park was located on the site of the old Sendai castle. The castle is no longer there but we do see some old remnants of the past castle. This park offered a panoramic view of the Sendai city. Within the park, there are many different historical structures but sadly, when we were there, there was some renovation work on the Date Masamune on a horse statue but they did put up a picture on site for tourists to take pictures.
We parked our car right at the bottom of the hill and walked up. It was quite a climb and took us around 30 minutes but if did offer us great views along the way.

Very nice place. You may get best panoramic photos of Sendai city. Temple is in side castle. Shops are great the temple. Dining possible. It's free to visit.

The ruins of a castle ! I always like visiting caste but this is one of the most beautiful (thought there is no remaining castle now) but the view from the castle is just mind blowing. I don’t know exactly reason but there were some debate so the Govt. demolished the castle.

Pleasing place to see Sendai City! They have food court and I suggest to try Zunda Shake there, it's really delicious. You can go to Aobayama Park by Loople Bus.

This is a spot I definitely recommend when you come to Sendai.
You can overlook Sendai from the perspective of Date Masamune, a Sengoku warrior.
The statue of Masamune Date is one of the symbols that symbolizes Sendai.
I think that you are highly satisfied with the magnificent castle ruins, outstanding views, and abundant souvenirs.
Hirose River is a notable urban waterway that draws tourists for its picturesque bankside promenades, which offer stunning views of the towering cityscape and numerous bridges. Visitors can also enjoy the surrounding parkland, making this attraction a perfect place to relax and take in the natural beauty of the area.
Tsutsujigaoka Park, situated in central Sendai, is a picturesque city park known for its stunning cherry blossoms. During spring, the park becomes a popular spot for picnics as the weeping cherry trees and Somei Yoshino cherry trees bloom, creating a majestic and enchanting atmosphere. The park also features modern sculptures and offers amenities such as jogging tracks, exercise fields, shaded resting areas with vending machines - making it an ideal place to relax and enjoy nature's beauty.
My favorite sports venue has a jogging track, a field for exercise, and a shaded resting area with vending machines.

Located on the east side of Sendai Station, Tsutsujigaoka Park is a convenient spot for locals. Within a 15-minute walk from the station, it offers a spacious area where people can unwind and relax. While not overly fancy, this local park provides a decent environment.

I saw a lot of cherry trees here, they must be very pretty at the peak of cherry blossom season 😍 we loved the playground and the large field for any kind of play.

Nice Park to get the kids to play for a long while, walk, run, skateborard or just to hang out. Accessible by local train or with a nice walk from Sendai station east exit. Usually quiet, gets crowded in weekend afternoons. Nice spot for 花見 too.

Beautiful park which left me wonderful memories!
There’s sakura trees everywhere. Huge park with a playground, huge water fountain and various sakura trees with lots of street food vendors. Bring a picnic blanket and sit under the trees. They’re all low trees so its so nice. The washroom is clean but there’s no toilet papers or soap so bring some if you visit.

Good place to hangout and enjoy food stands and drink under the cherry blossom trees. Difficult to take pictures without people. Cherry blossoms are not as wonderful nor large scale compared to other city major parks.

I arrived in sendai a day late for the prime sakura viewing time but I was stunned by the magnificent display of sakura. White and pink it was just amazing.
The water fountain is nice and the park is clean and nice to walk around.
A day earlier they had a festival, food, everything.
Walking distance to train stations and more.

One of the best places for enjoying Sakura (cherry blossom) in the downtown Sendai. The park is big, and several things we can do here with family and friends!
The Miyagi Museum of Art, established in 1981, is a prominent art museum in Sendai that showcases Japanese painting and sculpture. It features a modern interior, complete with a cafe and garden for visitors to enjoy. The museum is dedicated to supporting local art and offers a comprehensive look at the artistic communities of Miyagi Prefecture and the wider Tohoku region from the Meiji period to the present day.
Amazing museum which has a large collection of children picture book artist's original artwork. Watch out for regular exhibitions of their work. Easy access by train from main sendai station.
Currently closed for 2.5 years for major refurbishment.
Uncluttered layout over 2 floors with some art pieces outside surround the .ain buildings.
Visited "guri a d gura" exhibition some years ago, which was extensive and catalogued the artist's (Yuriko Yamawaki) works through her long career.

It's free if you are student. It's a huge and beautiful place. The staffs also are kind. Sometimes, there is a special exhibition just for several days.

There is also a little garden with beautiful autumn leaves.

Very interesting Art Museum, the exhibition is really nice. The most interesting thing is the Sculpture exhibition “CHURYO SATO”, his art work is amazing. His work really make this place worth to visit if you were in Sendai. There a lot of good exhibition from old to new work’s from variety of Japanese artist.

Very good to see the Art Display with wonderful paintings and real objects.

The Japanese art on display is excellent, easily worth the visit. The German stuff is 'meh'.
The garden is also worth a look, many smaller sculptures on the way.
Paid ¥300 per person, so it's definitely worth a visit.

Nice collection of art. I believe it is a tad overpriced at 1400 yen for a rather small collection of art but there were still some interesting pieces to admire. In total, it took a little under an hour to view every piece. We bought tickets for all the displays. The cost of admission to the main permanent exhibit was only 300 yen. If I did it over again, I'd save the money and just view the main exhibit.

I've been to a chunk of Japanese museums and the Salvador Dali- especially trash. Don't know why, but Japanese museums are quite bland. But this- it was quite an impressive collection imo.
AER Observation Terrace is a must-visit in Sendai, offering stunning panoramic views of the city from its 31st-floor observation deck. The terrace provides an excellent vantage point to take in the entire cityscape, with lush vegetation adding to the charm during summer. This contemporary tower is conveniently located just a short walk from Sendai Station, making it easily accessible for visitors.
Sendai City, view from AER Terrace (31st floor)
Strongly recommend to visit this place to view Sendai city.

Nice terrace but no 360 view. The views are nice during the day and I suspect at night they are even better. I would recommend bringing a set of binoculars for better distance viewing. If you are in Sendai, it's worth checking out

AER Observation Terrace is located on the 31st floor of the AER building, conveniently adjacent to Sendai Station. It is a free observation deck that is not crowded and offers a great spot for visitors to enjoy the cityscape.
During day time, you will spot the busy streets with flow of people, cars and trains. As darkness descends, you will able to see the night city with the famous Hapina street stretching out from the station and separating the city by its light.
For the best experience, consider visiting right before sunset. You can witness the beautiful transition of the city from day to night.
Javin Yam — Google review
I liked this place especially if you go around the time of sunset it’s a very beautiful view. The reflections in the glass can ruin some pictures but it’s not that serious 😌

Best view in Sendai and it’s free! Take the express elevator to the 31st floor. Outstanding views to the east, west and north. Definitely worth taking a few minutes to look around. 3 minute walk from Sendai Station.

Unsurprisingly, there is not much to be seen when the sun is down, other than city lights of course. I tried as hard as I could to find Daikannon, but to no avail.
Skip it unless there is still sunlight

Don't miss it if you find some time to spare in Sendai city.
You can check out the free observation deck on the 31st floor. It's just a short 5-minute walk away from the station.
It does not have the 360 view. But you will find two decks. On one side, you can see the Sendai city, and on the other end, you can watch the Shinkansen and the Pacific Ocean.

Cool spot to take in the view of the Sendai skyline. The observation deck has wooden benches to sit and relax. Nice and peaceful atmosphere. Not the tallest observation deck I've experienced but still worth a visit if you want to take in the vastness of Sendai.

A good place to look across Sendai to the distance hills and out to the sea. And you can witness shinkansen rolling out and entering JR Sendai Station.
The lift to the 31st floor is fast. What makes it even sweeter is all for free. It seems few people come by. I was the only one when i visited last week. Worth coming by for a visit if you are around here.

Good place to see the Sendai City from Hawk eye. Day time is better than evening and night.
Use the lift of B1 to 31th floor.

Free of cost observation deck next to Sendai station. Go to the AER office building and take the elevator to top floor 31. Once you reach top floor you will find 2 observation decks one on right and one on left. The left one gives you view of trains. Check timing of shinkanshen to take pics of them arriving at station

They have an observation for free at 32nd floor. You can see the railway and the mountain at the other side.

Very dirty scratched windows for the view. Not great. Better to take photos out of the window when you come out of the lift on the 31st floor. Not easy to find, no signs. Ask at the information desk in the station and they'll give you a map.
Timothy Campbell — Google review
It's free to go, no tickets or reservation needed. Just make sure to be respectful because people are working in this building and also using using the elevators. The view is very beautiful, and there's 2 terraces so you can see both sides of Sendai. Definitely worth your time!
Shion Chan — Google review
It's free so the value is technically infinite. The view is decent but it's no Tokyo. If you've seen any city at night you've seen this one.
There is pretty bad glare at night from the indoor lights so it will be difficult to take photos of each other. Maybe check it out for sunset that would be cute.

Free access from the office tower elevators, 31F. Offers a great view of the city on east/west sides of the tower, and you can even see the Sendai Daikannon statue (NW) in the distance.
