Elk Falls Provincial Park and Protected Area is a nature park in British Columbia that offers various activities such as hiking, cycling, swimming, fishing, picnicking, and playing in the playground. The park surrounds the impressive Elk Falls waterfall which drops almost 85 feet down into a deep canyon with steep cliffs and a pool at the bottom. Visitors can explore the old growth Douglas fir forest or go fishing for trout, chinook salmon or salmon in the lakes.
Beautiful area to walk around, great for having a snack or lunch and just listen to the water. Such a great day to get put and experience all the wonders of this amazing island ๐. Not too bad of a walk/hike less than 5km for sure. Whole family loved the day, fresh air and exercise. I highly recommend this location ๐

Just outside Campbell River. What a gem! Nice, enjoyable walk in. Warning for those with mobility issues.....there are quite a few stairs just before the falls/bridge. For me, a little nerve wracking to cross the bridge.....but glad I mustered up the courage! :) Beautiful scenery!

Absolutely amazing! The waterfall itself is so beautiful and then the added suspension bridge let's you view it from above and different angles and the thrill of being so high up above the canyon. The path is well maintained. You can't use a stroller only because there are a lot of stairs leading down to the lookout and suspension bridge.

Awesome place for a short day trip. The walking routes can be short or longer depending how much you want to do. Some big redwood trees scattered in here, was nice to see since i couldn't get to cathedral grove. Waterfall is awesome, can access the rapids and there is a "rock beach" at the top above the rapids where its almost dead still. The water is cold and delicious! There is a safe spot at the top of the rapids to access water where there is current so its fresh. Glad i decided to make the trip to Campbell river.

Just a stunning well maintained park. Very walkable for all abilities. Every corner you turn there's something else gorgeous to look at. The old growth trees were my favourite.
Enjoyed the drive out here, very scenic and beautiful. There were a fair amount of people here but nothing too crazy. Turned out to be a beautiful day and we had amazing views of the entire area. The suspension bridge ๐ was amazing but also vertigo inducing as well. The whole family made it across and back then we went to the viewing platform and took some pics there. At the right angle and time you can see some rainbow ๐ colors in the mist. There are other trails that will lead down to the water itself so be careful when there and keep and eye on younger kids. A great start to our Easter ๐ฃ long weekend trip. Highly recommended for all ages and we will definitely be back again.

Some of the walk is through construction which takes away from the majesty of the place but it was still a nice, fairly easy, walk to the falls. I'm not a huge fan of the metal stairs and bridge, it feels like it could get slippery and falling on it would be terribly painful. The falls are nice and the bridge is sturdy. Probably not going to fill your suspendรญan bridge desires compared to others in BC, but if you are nearby, it's worth a visit.

A good short hike if you have an hour or so to spend. Well established trails with guards around the trail. The suspension bridge gives a good view of the falls and the canyon further beyond. Very much enjoyed the walk.

A truly spectacular site! There is plenty of parking at the entrance and it is an easy walk to the falls although there are a lot of stairs to get to the viewing platforms and the suspension bridge. The falls are really amazing and the only spot to see them really clearly is from the suspension bridge. The viewing platform at the end of the bridge is actually a bit disappointing, as the best views are from the middle of the bridge. There is also a nice platform across from the bridge accessible from another trail. The trees in the area are also worth time with a few showing deep scars from a past forest fire.

This is such an amazing project by the Rotarians. The construction and care for safety makes it easy to enjoy such a majestic and powerful force of nature. The mist churned up by the water makes it magical, and the multiple viewing platforms (4) are each unique. The additional signage and info around the hydro-electric penstock history/upgrades (in progress 2023) was a neat informative addition to our nature walk. Despite all the machinery, the on site workers were particularly friendly.

Beautiful views! Not a long walk from the parking lot, but I immediately felt like I was deep in the forest, so it was really enjoyable. I love the variety of trees species. 9:31:02 AM 1958. It was the largest non-nuclear explosion in history using 75 men for 3 years to build 150 metres (500 ft) of vertical shaft from Maud Island, 720 metres (2,370 ft) of horizontal shaft to the base of Ripple Rock, and two main vertical shafts up into the twin peaks of Ripple Rock (which was an extreme hazard to ships passing through), from which "coyote" shafts were drilled for the explosives. 1,270 metric tonnes of Nitramex 2H explosive were packed in the final vertical shaft in Ripple Rock which threw debris and rocks over 300m in all directions.
The blast was heard and felt from as far as two miles away.

They built this place hoping the cruise ships would dock here, alas those guys never got the memo, there were 8 people visiting in the 2 hours I was here. Interesting collection of native American artifacts, and a selection of films to watch in a small theatre. If you are interested in learning about the history of the area this is a must see. I had no idea they used massive explosives to blast an island to clear a navigation choke point. Watch the ripple rock video, it's a BLAST, literally. Sad to know Canadians used .50 Calibre Browning Machine Guns to kill orca "whales" (dolphins really) once upon a time. Equally sad is how racial minorities were treated here in the early 20th and 19th century. The "iron chink" exhibit and the WW2 Japanese internment exhibit shows stark contrast with today's vibrant multiracial population of BC. How wealthy would First Nations tribes be if they owned the leases to all the buildings in Vancouver. Great exhibit on how they "lost it all".
The salmon were running up the river on this beautiful Autumn day in early October.

Kudos to the taxpayer supported Heritage Centre for hosting a townhall this evening, for the group "Concerned Citizens of Campbell River". Oh yeah, sorry, should clarify that...by group, I mean the religious right masking themselves as saviors of our children and community but happy to hide that behind the guise of "making Campbell River great again, because we care". These are the same people that trespass on elementary school grounds with Anti-SOGI pamphlets, feel they should decide how everyone else parents their children, and continues Kermit Dahl's wet dream of a Bible based, anti-fact, divisive community. Well done folks, great call tonight!

These are beautiful, in town recreational trails. Five main entrances to these trails, three have parking lots. Two entrances have gates that get locked at night - if you are parked in the parking lot - you'll have to leave your car there overnight.
Some trails are actually wide dirt &/or gravel roads, easy level walking, somewhat groomed & maintained. Other trails are probably more suitable for hikers or riders . Horseback riders , mountain bikers, runners, folk's walking their dog's, all share these trails/roads - be considerate of others.
Trails are named (eg Beaver Fever; Pony Trail, Connector, Huckleberry, etc.). Plus many trails have name markers & even maps at the trail head. Creeks & streams here often dry up during the summer months, maybe have water at your vehicle for your dog(s) and/or horse(s).
Though it is in town trails, wildlife encounters do happen. Cougars & bears are often spotted in these woods, check the map boards at the park entrances for recent notifications. I've encountered more bears(including a mother w cubs) & cougars here, then in remote wilderness areas. Please be aware & alert to your surroundings. NO bathrooms available in this park. Carry your garbage out - some entrances have garbage cans. NO campfires, camping or picnic tables in this park.

Excellent little theatre. The sound system is great, seats are comfortable and the staff are friendly!! Paying $2 for a $.25 water sucks but that's reality!!!

Needs to be updated, would be nice to have more legroom in the seating area.

Great venue to see and hear great music. Even an area to get up and dance if you want to. You can purchase beer or wine and take it into the show but be prepared to pay lots for it. $8 can. Too much for me.

An old theatre, wonderfully updated with new comfortable seats and all the modern technological equipment necessary to put on any kind of production. Campbell River can be very proud of this one.

The Tidemark is an old-school theater, a converted movie venue that shows off its heritage well. Popcorn ๐ฟ is available to complement the show. Seats are reasonably comfortable and very clean. Definitely a place to have a good time.

What great staff and friendly atmosphere. Enjoying live performances is becoming a thing of the past in small communities. Wonderful to see this old theatre still thriving!!
Loveland Bay Provincial Park, accessible via a gravel road, is a picturesque spot within Sayward Forest offering campsites along the shores of Campbell Lake. The lake is part of Sayward Forest Canoe Circuit and is popular for swimming during summer months due to its quick warm-up. The campground offers well-maintained facilities with outhouses available but visitors may need to bring their own hand sanitizer.
There is no cell service on the way out and very limited while you are there so make sure people do not need to get a hold of you while away. There are plenty of clean bathrooms with garbage and recycling as well. Wood available for purchase as well. Most sites are reasonably spaced out but some are obviously better than others. The whole place is absolutely beautiful especially at sun rise. It is also not open for day use so it is not quite as busy as the only peoppe there should be camping there.

Beautiful spot, well maintained. Only one out of the 5 outhouses I used had hand sanitizer so I'm glad I had my own. A bit noisy with lots of kids. I would stay here again, Beautiful lake and the campsite had a boat launch where you could park the boat and leave it overnight which was great! Follow the instructions to get there given by the campsite.. Google Maps takes you on an hour detour through dirt roads.

Loveland is beautiful, well maintained, and usually fairly quiet. This might be my favorite campground on the island!

Beautiful park and well kept. I was a bit worried because our site was beside a bathroom but, we never noticed as it was kept super clean and tidy. It's a bumpy pothole drive to get in, so make sure your vehicle is in good shape.

This was the most magical camping spot. Super friendly people managing the camp, extremely clean facilities. Beautiful campground.

Beautiful, clean, well-maintained campsites with plenty of basic amenities and an extremely kind ranger (Kathy, I believe). We lucked into an available waterfront site due to a last-minute cancellation and even got our own private beach access. A+ provincial park - we will definitely be back to spend more time at this gem of a spot!

My favorite campsite so far. Take a look at the picture and you will see why. It have what you want. A clean and well maintain site. Beautiful view. Fishing spot. Quite and friendly Ranger. Only down side is to get to this beautiful place, you have to go on a tough journey. Battle spotty cell reception so consider that when relaying on your GPS but the reward will make it all worth it. I'm kinda glad that is in the middle of nowhere.

10km of washboard gravel road will get you to this lake with clear water. No mosquitos in late august, nice! Each site has ample space for your car and tent. Overflow parking lot gets full on long weekends.
