We enjoyed touring the facility and seeing the fiddle. Most of the shops were not open when we were there. We were told that it is fully open when the tour ships are in port, which makes sense.

🎻Iconic Landmark & Photography Spot🎻
If you're visiting Sydney by port, it's impossible to miss The Big Fiddle. It celebrates the role that Scottish immigrants played in forming the cultural heritage of Cape Breton Island with their "fiddler's music."
The "Big Fiddle" landmark is a towering 17 meters tall and weighs 8 tons! If you step into the cruise pavilion, there's a Cape Berton Island Tourism Exhibition where you can see how the big fiddle was made and learn more about Cape Breton's fiddle music.
Be sure to get a photo by this iconic landmark!

We made a day of it. Had dinner at the restaurant, took pictures by the fiddle and walked the boardwalk. We had a great time Sydney! Thank you.

Iconic view of the Sydney skyline and definitely a must visit. The world’s largest fiddle is a tribute to the folk music and traditions of the province’s Celtic community and stands at 60 feet tall. There is also a market building right behind it with local vendors and a food hall. Large gravel parking lot nearby.

Water is beautiful, so the view is nice. However, not much to do or see here. No boardwalk, etc. Definitely pop by and see it if downtown.
Rebecca Todd — Google review
Cool little spot to see a big violin/fiddle for some landmark pictures. There’s some live music from the restaurant next to it which is nice and we also walked by some people practicing bagpipes in the park from the public parking lot. Some people fishing near the water. Some shops inside with a cool little lighthouse statue. Parking right near the fiddle is for people going to the restaurant only. Worth a short visit if you’re in town otherwise not much to do here.

Interesting to see. Sydney is a nice cruise port, 5 to 10 minute walk to town, all paved with sidewalks, a little up hill, a nice park along the way.

You are greeted upon entry by a friendly person who asks if they can help. We looked around and found a some beautiful products. As were about to leave our greeter asked if we had seen the exhibit upstairs. We went up and saw a beautiful display of quilting and sewing that I can't do justice describing.

We did a beginner pottery class where we got to make mugs and drink wine, it was great.
First, the instructor was amazing. He was friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and obviously very talented.
Second, the environment was comfortable and welcoming.
My only complaint, and reason for 4 stars instead of 5, is that 2 hours wasn't enough time. It should have been 2.5 to 3 hours

Fantastic novice level hiking and walking trails with views of the water. Many species of birds and wildlife to observe. A very nice park to enjoy on a beautiful day.
Travis Forsyth — Google review
Great spot for a stroll, especially if you're walking your dog. Beautiful wilderness views and a great view of Sydney harbour. The view of Sydport at the far end is a bit industrial, but still interesting across the inlet. Lots of wildlife. Deer are around, we saw a lot of fresh tracks, but likely hiding mid afternoon. We did see a Pileated Woodpecker and a ton of other birds and squirrels. Some small birds will eat seed right out of your hands.
Glen Williams — Google review
Not a bad little walking trail. At the time that we visited, there were a few wedding parties taking photos which was kind of nice to see. There are little bird houses along the path which some have placed peanuts for the squirrels. The walk through the woods was nice. The view across the water was looking at industrial places so not exactly picture perfect.

Large open easy-going walking trails with lots of benchs picnics tables and side trails.
A small beach area too to walk as well.
Great spot to walk dogs as well and a large parking lot. Tends to be active.
Lots of apple trees and large trees in general. And a great spot to feed birds.
It was an old estate ran by an admiralty and some small ruins still are around like foundations and a well.
Overall a good place that takes just over an hour to walk at a leisurely pace.

This is one of our favorite places in the world. The natural, unspoiled beauty combines with well maintained, family friendly trails. There are always friendly people, some alone, some with friends, kids, and dogs, but it never feels crowded. The streams are gorgeous and provide a relaxing, soothing sound.

Great trail considering it's right in Sydney. Small creek running through it with lots of small bridges to cross back and forth. Excellent for a chill walk with the dog. Lots of birds and squirrels to keep them entertained. Downside is that it is so close to the highway in spots that it can get a little noisy with the urban sounds you're trying to escape from.

Jost House, 54 Charlotte Street in Sydney, Nova Scotia is a two storey wood framed home located on north Charlotte Street in a residential area with many heritage properties. Built in 1786, during the founding and Loyalist settlement of Sydney, it is one of the oldest residential buildings in the city.
What makes this museum such a little gem are the guides. Dressed in period clothes, they share their knowledge and love for the house. An era gone by, but documented through stories, artifacts, trinkets and folklore.
The amount of historical and cultural info given is amazing but it was also very enjoyable. This house has been restored but with such fine care to attention. The lower cellar level with the kitchen may be a little challenging for some with the steep steps and low head room. The main floor has some very nice antiques...especially the bed. The upper floor contains paraphernalia collected from the town's people. The most interesting items to peruse.
For $3/person, this museum is a great value. The volunteers are Cape Bretoner's and have stories to tell. Sit down and enjoy all they have to share. Oral storytelling is underrated. Enjoy!

A touching tribute to the merchant mariners who made a tremendous contribution during the Second World War by sending convoys of ships to Europe with vital supplies such as coal, steel, fuel, and other items vital to the war effort. A total of 177 convoys with an average of 14 ships each sailed from Sydney during the battle of the Atlantic. Many ships, and lives, were lost but many more were saved with thanks to the merchant mariners. For those with wheelchairs, rollators, or those pushing prams/baby buggies, this statue is just along the boardwalk which is flat and level: accessible parking is available at the cruise pavilion. Public restrooms are also available in the cruise pavilion.

A beautiful monument to remember our history and those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Erected in 2016, this remembers the sailors who perished on the convoys leaving from Sydney Harbour. Worth a look and a read

This is an amazingly powerful sculpture that will resonate with all sailors as well as those who know men who were in the service that risked their lives to bring supplies to the Allies in WWII.
Wonderfully crafted, even if long overdue. A great addition to Sydney and the harbor.

Built to honor the sacrifice's made by member's of the Merchant Marine who played a very large part in the transfer of both soldiers and war materials from Canada to Europe during the Second World War. The Port of Sydney was well defended during those years with a submarine "net" stretched along the entrance as well as land based fortifications surrounding the coastline. Most of those can still be found as you travel along the coast with the most notable being Fort Petrie. The Fort is now being re-constructed as a museum itself.

The Cossit House Museum is a historic house from around 1787 that showcases the period's decor and features tours by guides dressed in 18th-century attire. It costs $2 per person for a choice of guided or self-guided tours with a description of each room. The house displays preserved old tools, books, clothing, and highlights what life was like back then. Visitors can also see the back garden.

$2 per person and you get choice of guided or self guided with a sheet of paper describing each room. Two women in period costume are there to guide you if you like. Interesting little house that highlights what was considered normal back then. The poor woman of the house had 13 children and died in childbirth at the age of 46!!! It's great they could preserve some of the old tools, books, clothing, etc and you get a sense of life back then. Short walk over after visiting the giant fiddle.

Located a short walk from the Port of Sydney, St. George's Anglican Church is notable for being the oldest building in Sydney and the oldest Anglican church in Cape Breton. As of 1984, it's been designated a Nova Scotian heritage property. There's a graveyard adjoining the church as well.
Even if you aren't able to go inside, it's worth passing by to see this piece of history for yourself. The stone architecture framed against the bright blue sky is a stately sight to behold. Get your camera ready!
Casey Covel — Google review
An incredible blast from the past. Rich in history, like no other historic cape breton landmark, in the city of Sydney. Pay it a visit. Read the literature. You'll be surprised to learn how this little church played such a vital role throughout our years.
Noble Salvage — Google review
The church opens in the late morning through the lunch hour on cruise ship days. The volunteers do a wonderful job and are dressed in their Edwardian costumes. If you are visiting Sydney on a day with a ship in port, drop in for a visit to the oldest building in town.

Gorgeous little church. You can walk the grounds freely and the graveyard is calming. However it is supposedly haunted. So if you want to have some fun dress up as a soldier from the colonial days and March around after dark. You will freak some people out. Gave 3 stars bc it is almost impossible to catch it open and I would love to tour the inside

St. George’s Anglican Church is located in downtown Sydney, at the corner of Charlotte and Nepean Streets. The stone Gothic Revival style church, built between 1785 and 1791, is a local landmark. St George’s architecture is a simple, clean expression of dignity and solidness.
St. George’s Anglican Church is valued as the oldest Anglican Church in Cape Breton; the oldest building in Sydney; for the property’s long history; and as a representation of the important role its parish council played in colonial Cape Breton. Many of Sydney's early and prominent citizens are buried in its cemetery.
Building of St. George’s Church began in 1785 by engineers of the British 33rd Regiment of Foot, concurrently with the founding of Sydney and its designation as the capital of the new Colony of Cape Breton; however, it was not completed and designated as a parish until 1791.
For almost two-hundred and twenty years St. George’s Church has been a place of worship, serving the people of Sydney. Originally, the Parish included the whole of Cape Breton Island, and St. George’s served as the British garrison chapel. As a garrison chapel until 1854, it was granted a Royal Pew and became the official place of worship for members of the Royal Family, if they should ever visit; a role that it still retains.

St Patrick's Church Museum is a former church built in 1828 in Pioneer Gothic style, located in Sydney. The museum features exhibits on the religious history of the area and provides insight into the region's past. Visitors can learn about the church's historical significance and admire its beautiful architecture. Additionally, free wifi and AC washrooms are available for guests' convenience. Overall, St Patrick's Church Museum offers a unique opportunity to delve into local history and appreciate a cultural landmark.
⛪Museum Built Inside the Church - Historical Site⛪
If you're visiting the Port of Sydney on a Cruise, St. Patrick's Church Museum is one of the walkable spots to sight-see. It won't take long to browse, but history buffs and lovers of religious architecture will truly enjoy it. The tour guide staff are friendly and informative as well.
The church was first built in 1828 and the interior is open to explore. It's been refurnished into a museum that shares the history of the church and surrounding township, containing everything from musical instruments to original furnishings, as well as a collection of illustrations by Lewis Parker that capture some of Sydney's most important heritage properties.
Also: Don't miss the little LEGO replica of the church on the second floor!

The casino itself is just like a casino. I don’t go to such places, but the machines look nice, a lot of people come here, there is a bar and coffee. Even cool interactive golf for 35/hour. Monitors to watch different games (curling, hockey, etc.) ...But this is all formal part of my review, I wanted to write about something else... about the people who work here from lunch until night. I'm new to Canada and met a lot of kind and polite people, but I have never met such helpful people as several evening security guards and the administrator who worked here on the 21st and 22nd. I think the clients of this casino are in good hands with these wonderful people I had met here during my two nights in Sydney.

Prime Rib was the special. But at 17.99 we expected it to be a little more special and not like it came from a cafeteria. Potatoes were like a Swanson dinner and veggies, all 6 or so , were from deep in the freezer. Prime Rib was well below average as well. Best part of our dinner was the great service from our waitress. But my advice is to spend your money elsewhere if you are looking for a nice meal.

Quite possibly the best nachos in all of Canada. They dont just pile on the tortillas and then dump the cheese and toppings over top… they actually do a good job layer tortillas, cheese (shredded and melted queso), toppings, and then another layer of each. The only thing to critique is that we added on chicken at $4.99 and it certainly was not $5 worth of chicken there.

As usual, my stay was not a win win situation. We have the most boring, lack Lustre casino in CANADA!! The aim for this Casino is to extract every possible penny from seniors like me. For yor convenience they offer ATM cashiers that expect a person to pay a fee of $4.99 to get there own money from their own savings. I did have a complimentary glass of water It helped me swallow my guilt for using machine(s). The food is borderline and expensive. The entertainment is fair. You can't have a game of cards amongst your fellow card lovers. I am a "card member" or was, I only put a card in a machine (ATM) when I'm hooked. I urge my fellow seniors to find a better place to spend their hard earned money!!

Went to the Women's World Curling, it was great, mind you the parking sucks, especially when you are handicapped and thought because there were back doors you could get in them....NOT , had a long walk to the front of the building , stupid set up, go up a load of stairs, walk across a platform about 30 ft. long and than back down a bunch of stairs, especially using a cane, I usually use my walker, what the heck would have happened than. I only took my cane as I knew our seats were down front, but thought there was a different level you could go in to get to our seats. I actually asked the site where I bought my tickets if there was handicapped seating and they didn't reply, so we wanted to go to the game and didn't want to not be able to get tickets, so I had no choice but to purchase them. The game was great, a great experience, but enjoy watching it on television better, you can see the close up plays etc. Last time we were at this facility was to see Bryan Adams quite a few years ago for our anniversary, the prices for the last concert there just after things went back after Covid were ridiculously priced. I believe we paid $70.00 a ticket for the first concert and the cheapest this last concert was $500.00 a ticket, I don't know how they sold out or sold any for that matter...I love Bryan Adams but there's a certain price point I will stop at no matter who it is for.

Although the arena has been around for a while now, it's keeping up with updates and enhancements. It's always clean for hockey games and things like craft fairs and trade shows. Parking is tight during busy events.

Why was the Kip Moore concert such a secret ? Know wonder we cannot get any big performers here. This could’ve been a sold out performance if it was advertised.

The Centre 200 will be hosting the World's Women's Curling Championship from March 16th-24th.
Thirteen teams from Canada (Rachel Homan), Denmark (Madeline Dupont), Estonia (Marie Kaldvee/Liisa
Turmann), Italy (Stefania Costantini), Japan (Miyu Ueno), New Zealand (Jessica Smith), Norway (Marianne Rorvik), Scotland (Rebecca Morrison), South Korea (Eun-ji Gim), Sweden (Anna Hasselborg), Turkiye (Dilsat Yikdiz) and United States (Tabitha Peterson) will be competing for the converted gold medal 🏅
As I guaranteed, there was tremendous curling that took place this week and Team Canada -- the fantastic Team Rachel Homan --- took home the gold and truly made the nation proud.

A loss tonight 4-0. They played alright but the rimouski team is strong. We out shoot the competition but they had more quality shoots. Great ambiance and we always like to support our local product and have fun doing it. The cold beer are also an added plus. Till the next game. Cheers.

Great atmosphere but omg do not expect to get anything at the concessions in a timely fashion. It's one line up for beer 1 for popcorn and the whole arena is lined up. Pack a lunch and hunker down or you will miss the game.

Nancy LeDrew who works in the box office is a definite asset to Centre 200. She has been very helpful in all our interactions. Nancy is very friendly, personable
and knowledgeable. Thank you Nancy for all you do.

Came here for the final Celtic Colours concert. The facility itself is great. The event organizers could have done better at clearing the line up to get in prior to the show.
The concert was great!

Greenlink Rotary Park Trail System, Maillard St Entrance
This is all part of the same Rotary park system. Most of it loops but if you come up at the Shandwick exit, the trail does not loop back to the Manitoulin Entrance. It is necessary to either travel up the road to the tennis courts and cross the wooden bridge, then proceed across the unmaintained trail at the back of the cemetery, or backtrack over the same trail back.

A nice little trail designated for walkers and bicycles although I saw 2 atv's on the trail and lots of tracks from others.
The trail features a nice variety of wildflowers including Thistle, Queen Anne's Lace, a nice pinkish-purple flower and many others. You will also find a small brook, a variety of trees and an off leash dog park off to one side.
One feature I really like is the entrance behind the back parking lot of the Hampton Inn where I stay.

If you are looking for a church where the beauty of Godly worship is expressed in a solemn and reverent fashion, then Holy Redeemer is the place to visit. The very healthy attendance numbers on weekends and throughout the week, attest to the power of prayer, faith and devotion. God is obviously present in this parish.

I was baptised in yhis church, I am 52 and was strongly thinking about returning to church after being away from religion for almost 40 yrs. In the last 20 yrs I have growing Spiritually but I am ready to get back to the basics at where my journey of Gods love began.

Very impressive collection of the area's history. Not just books and pictures but artifacts, instruments, household appliances, tools, uniforms, projectors, sewing machines, cameras, from years past. Records of marriages, schools and local war heroes listed on carefully edited binders. A window into the past history of Whitney Pier that was once a thriving neighborhood when the steel factory was around.

Small with lots of local history. The curator spent some time explaining some of the more interesting artifacts and even provided some traditional biscuits that one of the patrons make for the guests. Worth a stop for the local history.

Interesting little place, has a lot of different histories. Not the most incredible stuff, but they pack a lot of history in a small place. The people there are very, very nice and hospitable, and they provide coffee and oat cookies for free downstairs. I would definitely recommend stopping by; it's a great way to spend around half an hour to an hour.

This was included as part of a cruise bus tour. We drove around and eventually stopped at what looked like an old house or shop. I was not initially impressed but what was inside stunned me! This is per square foot one of the best collections of 20th century "Canadiana" (or even Americana) I've ever seen. From metal clip-on roller skates using "keys" in their original box to wringer washing machines and motion picture equipment. There were original optometrist kits that fit in a suitcase and telegraph and radio technology. If people used it commonly, it was there. Many of these might have only been seen in old movies or cartoons. Spectacular - I only wish my town had such a collection. The human faces of the resident docents was especially good - and everyone was knowledgable and grateful for the visits. Many small towns are ruined by the cruisers overwhelming them - the folks of Cape Breton Island have embraced it.

Eclectic collection of local objects and personal effects presented by dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers. Good way to learn about community life during the 20th century.

Fantastic effort of locals with age and memory to offer a moving picture of the way immigrants from everywhere came to make a life in Sydney. Articles donated by the inhabitants with pride. Set in an old synagogue/house. Conversations with volunteers were a pleasure and a privilege.

Amazing collection of local history and artifacts. The tour guides were so knowledgeable about everything in the museum and shared many local stories and tales. A great place for locals, tourists and anyone who would like to learn about not only the history of Whitney Pier but also the surrounding areas.
