This used to be a Courtyard, but they made a few changes, slapped the Autograph name on it, raised the prices, and called it the Notary. The only thing to recommend this hotel is the location, directly across the street from City Hall.
First, the sign outside says overnight valet parking is $58 per night, but they actually charge you $68, which you don't learn until they hand you the claim check. Second, when we arrived, the room was not ready, but the front desk said that if we upgraded, the room would be ready within the half hour. After 90 minutes, my wife attempted to complain to the manager, a jerk named Kyle, who, after being told I am recovering from cancer and needed to rest soon, treated her terribly, rudely admonishing her for not reading the website, which, he said, lists check-in time as 4:00 (it was 4:30 by this point). We later were told by several employees that Kyle also treats them badly. My wife asked to speak with Jim, the General Manager, who, despite several requests for a callback, never reached out to us during the four days we were there.
Bad service starts at the top, and it's easy to see, from Kyle and Jim, why the service at this hotel is so bad. In addition, the housekeeping was inferior, and there is no room service or any place to grab some food except during the limited hours that their restaurant is open.
The rooms are OK, with decent beds, but the closet is barely wide enough for the hangers and very small (clearly leftover from the Courtyard days).
As a longtime Marriott customer and Bonvoy member, I was shocked at how bad this hotel is. The service culture is non-existent, and everyone working there seems like they'd rather be somewhere else. With all the high-quality options in Center City, this is clearly NOT the hotel to choose.
