The Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum is home to an astonishing array of motorbikes, dating back over a century of production. The museum also features a 16-turn road course, which is used by Grand-Am Racing Series and AMA Superbike.
Still absolutely in awe of the place. As a motorcycle enthusiast, there was so much to see. Everything was placed well so pictures weren't crowded or difficult to take. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and the museum clean and nice. I would have liked to spent several days there as there is just so much to see. Will be a lasting memory, and I highly recommend going.

This is a Motorcycle lovers paradise. They also have vintage cars and race cars. There is an entire area donated to Lotus. The building is designed so beautifully and the motorcycles and vehicles are very well kept.
You would probably need to spend 4-5 hours to view Museum thoroughly. They also have a nice gift shop.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. There is also a track at location. This day a private club was using it.
I paid $33 total online for 2 tickets. If you would like 10% military discount you have to wait to pay on site. There is no military discount at store.
Recommend visiting if in the area!!!

Amazing museum at the Barber Raceway. Enormous collection of mostly motorcycles. Also has some glimpses of the working racing research and design areas. If you plan to read every placard for each item you will need several hours. "There is just so much!", was the constant refrain as we toured.

Une visite à faire absolument ! Quelle collection immense!

A visit to absolutely do! What a huge collection! Lots and lots of motorcycles, from the very first to the very recent, some crazy, some original, some classics... We'll be amazed. 5 floors of motorcycles, cars and bicycles! And even motorcycle carousels!
We just can't access the basement which is reserved for vehicle renovation but as there is a large well in the middle, we can see the cars being repaired.
And what's more, the icing on the cake, we have access via footbridge to the test circuit! A pretty layout with flowers, waterfalls, funny or giant animal sculptures. And a bridge to clearly see the cars racing.
An exceptional visit! And practically alone!

Superb museum! Never a huge fan of motorcycles before I walked in, but one just can't help becoming one after walking out. The collection is unreal, going back to late 1800s, from all over the world to boot. Plus you can see a race, if they have one when you visit, which makes the place that much more memorable.

One of the nicest collections of motorcycles I have ever seen. If you like all generations and makes and models of motorcycles, you will love it. The history in this building is amazing. Take an audio tour if you can. There is 5 levels of exhibits, ample bathrooms, a banquet area for conferences and corporate gatherings. State of the art facility. Definitely for the motorcycle history buff.

There isn't anything I can truly say to make this museum better than it already is. It is beautiful! It is by far one of the most precise and excellently built interior structures for a motor or auto museum I have ever seen in my life. It is pretty breathtaking and wonderful to see. Pictures don't do it justice. I highly recommend you visiting and seeing amazing history.

Incredible volume of vehicles. Vintage and historic motorcycles and automobiles, racing and street stock. Find the $9 Million Britten and $4 Million Bentley. This is less than half the overall inventory! There is a race track for interested drivers. This is an unbelievable collection. Finally, find the Y2K turbine motorcycle and the Lotus family letter affirming Barber's largest collection of Lotus car collection.

My family and I took a last-minute getaway to Birmingham and stumbled upon the Barber Musuem. The facility and grounds were extremely clean and very well laid out. And the workers and everyone we spoke to were all very friendly. I especially loved being able to watch our 2 year olds son's face as we were able to walk over the race track and see the motorcycles out racing. Even if you are not a motorcycle enthusiast, this is definitely worth a visit. We will be back!!

This place is massive! They have an insane amount of motorcycles, plus a wide variety of other things to look at (such as cars). There is also a race track with overlooks to view the track. We were there today and Porsche had cars racing out on the track. There is a scenic trail to walk through with sculptures and a nice waterfall. It was $20 per adult and we spent hours there. It is definitely worth the price and a visit.

This place is mind boggling! So cool! I'm not particularly into motorcycles, but my buddy who I went on vacation with suggested we go there. I was amazed how much I thoroughly enjoyed myself. They have every kind of motorcycle imaginable, but also a large collection of boat motors, race cars, and antique cars.

This place was amazing - the incredible detail put into this place, the number of motorcycles, the unique layout of the building, the history of the bikes and cars! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the 4 hours we spent walking through the display and observing the cars on the awesome track outside. Even with the July heat, we loved being able to stand on the bridges over the track as the cars raced around. They even have a lovely wooded path that leads to a gazebo where we sat for a bit. This large wooded area is in the middle of the winding track.

Wonderful and extensive exhibit, very clean and easy to get around. Even if you're not a motorcycle fanatic, I think you'd enjoy the place. It's also very clean and the AC is a nice break from the hot Bama weather.

This museum is an experience! There’s a ton to see and do. It’s not a boring old motorcycle place just for boys! It’s displayed in such a way that it’s interesting, informative and awesome! Come on a day when the cars are racing and stand on the glass panels in the bridge and watch the cars fly by beneath your feet!!

The history is great and the personality of the entire experience is one of a kind. The staff is incredibly kind and inviting. The track is so cool, and the beautiful gardens with the koi pond and waterfall is great! Definitely worth the ticket price and the time! We spent 3+ hours here.

If you have even the slightest interest in motorcycles, then the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum is nothing short of a pilgrimage you must make. I've visited this awe-inspiring museum four times, and even that doesn't feel sufficient to fully appreciate the grandeur of its collection.
With over 1,600 vintage and modern motorcycles and racing cars on display, this place is truly the Guggenheim of motorcycles. The collection spans from 1904 to the present and includes bikes from 16 different countries, representing over 140 different marques. More than 900 motorcycles are on display at any given time, so you can imagine the scale of this monumental endeavor.
This museum isn't just a showcase; it's a love letter to the world of motorcycling. With bikes hailing from as far away as Australia, New Zealand, and Sweden, the diversity and depth of the collection are unparalleled. It's no wonder that this Birmingham, Alabama gem is considered the largest motorcycle museum in the world.

Wow is the only word to explain this place, the magnitude, the sheer size of this place is huge. So many cars, motorcycles, cars racing was magnificent. This place is spotless, staff was great and very informative. Had a great time visiting and definitely worth the visit. Hope to be back soon.

This place is amazing. If you are a motorcycle enthusiast, doubly so. They have a huge, beautiful collection of motorcycles. Ranging from the late 1800's, to current production bikes, and everything in between. They also have plenty of cars, with a large display focused on Lotus vehicles, as well as a few other interesting items like outboard motors. The grounds outside by the race track are beautifully landscaped, and there is a trail you can walk with various pieces of artwork throughout a wooded setting. This is the best vehicle museum I have ever been to. Now I just need to get down there when there is a race on their track to complete the experience.

This stunning museum must be seen to be believed! My only issue is the kids tickets are too pricy, but it's not the most easily appreciated museum for kids. The thoughtfulness that's gone into the layout and the architecture is amazing, and the largest Lotus collection in the world is a real cherry in top.

I was absolutely blown away by this museum. They have thousands of bikes there on display. Bikes I've never heard of before and all of my favorite motorcycle producers like Indian and Harley-Davidson. They also have a racetrack out back where you can watch races or pay to drive one of their vehicles or your own at high speeds. There are five floors of display

What a collection! If you or someone you love, loves anything that has wheels on it, this is a must! My entire family was in awe with everything there!
Brice, a new employee of 3 months couldn’t rant more about how much he loved working there, and how great the owner was. He even mentioned the owner knows all the employees by name! He mentioned he’s looking to save his money working there to buy a bike on display! Loved his passion and excitement!
Brice overheard how much my husband, 12 and 2 year old wanted to see the Shelby 1000, he looked at his watch and told us, I’ve got 5 minutes, follow me! He gave us a private tour and my family was through the moon about it!
We had an amazing time, would highly recommend! Thanks Brice for an unforgettable experience!

Great place to kill time and really enjoy the history of the motor vehicle. Loved learning new things especially about the original Harley Davidson office that was burned down by accident! Even had a mini theater to inform everyone about the history of the first motor race and how we got to racing as it is today.
The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute is a museum that tells the history of the 1960s Civil Rights Movement and other human rights issues in the United States. It has permanent exhibits on both the past and present of human rights, as well as various other galleries and meeting rooms.
My wife and I, a retired cop and nurse had the distinct pleasure of making the acquaintance of Marshay Webb, BCRI Operations Manager today. Sometimes it's hard to believe that these events occurred during our lifetimes ? It's a graphic illustration that it did. Soon my generation will be gone and the institutional knowledge will go with us. But your Museum will continue to share this knowledge. Thank you for letting us enjoy your beautiful interpretive Museum!

Fascinating and moving museum. The exhibits are thoughtful and well executed, and the facility well-designed for both education and reflection. The history here is both local and touched the world. Some of the other reviews on here are baffling. This isn't a theme park. It's not supposed to entertain you. Wouldn't recommend for younger kids; there's not much for them. Otherwise this is a must-visit in Birmingham.

Thoroughly told the history. Difficult to watch the videos and see the images, however necessary, as this is part of US history. My daughters are 8 and 11. They struggled at parts, as it was challenging for them to see images and hear certain aspects, but thankful they are learning now what happened in our country.

I'm not from the USA and we drove though Alabama today and then visited this museum. And I found it incredibly beautiful yet also confrontational. The museum is very well done and builds up well. I am not an emotional person but this museum actually made me cry and I really needed a break halfway to process the Incredible horror that was (and perhaps still is) done to people. Especially considering what I saw driving through Alabama earlier today it made me angry about the injustice that still exists, the ignorance of people waving around their "confederate flags". But I was also really impressed with the strength of the people who where able to stand up for justice and equality in the way they did. The staff was super friendly and I would absolutely recommend to visit this museum. My only comment would be that there should be an expansion to display the ongoing struggle, and the gift shop could be improved too.

Everytime we go out of town we look for educational museums and places to visit that talk about our history. This place didn't disappoint. Even though we've been to several Civil Rights Museums, this one not only focused on the movement but also Birmingham's role. A must visit.

Was a very informational museum but you also have to be aware of who funded the museum, who is the audience, and what is the narrative being told?
Our director of our Southern Civil Rights Trip taught us to ask those questions to ourselves. He said banks that contributed towards slavery gave money to the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and so their message is fuzzy. Because they are trying to clear their name.
There are some things worth seeing and learning here but there was a very confusing display about the KKK. I didn’t get what the display was teaching us because I just felt disgusted seeing real KKK wardrobe (that was anonymously donated said the sign 🙄) and hearing the quotes and phrases on the TV made no sense. It didn’t connect to tell a story or anything. So that was very odd.
All in all, I highly recommend going to the Equal Justice Initiative museum (The Legacy Museum) in Montgomery for learning more about history and the Slave Haven Museum in Memphis, TN.

Julia DeWitt — Google review
A group of us came here from New York and Atlanta to learn more about and appreciate the civil rights era.
This is a very nice museum that is well organized. On the positives, I saw my first KKK uniform in person. There's multiple videos that gives you an overview of the history, especially in Birmingham and Selma. The security staff and ticket booth staff were very pleasant and welcoming.
As far as opportunities, it's a little light on original artifacts. Some of the money spent on things like an automatic door to the video room could probably be better spent elsewhere. The staff inside the museum seemed rigid and a little more concerned about going home than educating guests, especially disappointing during this time of the year. I don't fault the humans, but maybe the strategy emphasis should be different.
Overall, good museum but could be so much more.

The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute is a profound and impactful museum that offers a valuable and educational experience. This historic institution pays tribute to the significant events and individuals who played pivotal roles in the Civil Rights Movement. You will begin with an 8 minute introductory video, then you are transported back in time, surrounded by powerful exhibits and artifacts that chronicle the struggle for equality. The museum's thoughtfully curated displays and interactive elements provide a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced and victories achieved during this transformative era in American history. The exhibits not only inform but also inspire visitors to reflect on the ongoing fight for justice and equality. The knowledgeable and passionate staff further enrich the experience, providing valuable insights and answering questions with depth and sincerity. A visit to the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute is a humbling and thought-provoking journey that leaves a lasting impact, reminding us of the importance of standing up for justice and promoting social change.

Beautiful beautiful place. Especially the sunset by the bell in the end, it’s perfectly lined up for a great end to our self guided tour.
This museum is well designed to tell a store that anyone can appreciate. We go here on a MLK weekend and it wasn’t busy unfortunately.
The Vulcan Park and Museum sits atop Red Mountain, encompassing a green space and an interactive museum detailing the city's industrial past. You can visit the park or take the elevator to the observation tower for panoramic views of Birmingham.
I love that this was a fun and easy hike up to from 5 points! I didn't get to go exploring the trails, just the museum and statue, but still enjoyed it quite a lot. One $6 ticket allows you into the museum and a ride up the elevator to the feet of the statue (or you also have the option to walk the staircase *inside* the pillar, which is absolutely what I did!). The museum is nicely done, approximately 7-8 rooms with the history of the town, culture, community, and struggles. It also gives a history of why this spot was so important to Birmingham. I would have loved to see more of the cave aspect, but I can only imagine it's not as safe or stable... You get a great overview of the city from even the base of the statue! There are binoculars to use, and a little drink and snack cart (with adult beverages!) to treat yourself after that hike. I loved that they had this really neat bicycle tuning tool near the parking lot! I've never seen anything like it! It had everything you could need to fix anything with your bike. How thoughtful!

I took my daughter on a very spur of the moment visit here. There was a super neat museum with a scavenger hunt to do while going through. Helps the kids pay attention instead of just running through. Everything was clean and well taken care of. The people working were very friendly and helpful. My daughter loved going to the lookout at the top of the statue. We took the elevator up and the stairs down. The kid loved the acoustics in the stairwell and took advantage by singing. The lady at the bottom of the statue praised my daughter's abilities, which made her day. They have a penny press machine, which is a cheap way to get a souvenir. The only negative is that the gift shop is pricey...but what gift shop isn't..

Small area and average park. Sufficient parking space available. You can see the entire downtown area from the Vulcan statue which is accessible via lift but you need to buy tickets for that. Unexpected, simple beauty. Great museum to learn some history of Birmingham, the Civil Rights movement, how the Vulcan came to be....even Coke and Pepsi. The park grounds are well manicured. Great views of the city can be had here without even climbing to the Vulcan's highest level. Being able to take the stairs or the glass elevator up the statue is a great option. You are only able to get to the foot of the Vulcan which is still extremely high. Overall a great park.

We stopped by the Vulcan Park and Museum before it was opened for the day, so I cannot speak to the museum itself. But the huge Vulcan monument is pretty impressive. It is the largest cast iron statue in the world, and is the city symbol of Birmingham, Alabama, United States, reflecting its roots in the iron and steel industry. We also enjoyed viewing the Lone Pine Mine of the same property as well as walking down the old rail bed for the Birmingham Mineral Railroad. It was a good stop for us to see this Birmingham landmark.

I was in Birmingham, Alabama on a business trip and I had a little time before my next flight so I decided to take a quick ride to Vulcan Park and Museum. I was not disappointed! Even though it was an overcast day, the views of the city were very nice and I very much enjoyed the walk through the nice park, the informative signs posted along the way and, of course, the imposing statue of Vulcan, the Roman god of metalworking and forging! The science museum is an awesome place for a day trip, and the kids loved it. I'm very surprised that it was not busier. It was practically empty.
Our kids loved being able to pet the sting rays and the tiny town.

A bit dated, wish they would update and repair some stations. Give the older kids more variety 😉. The younger kids have it made in the shade they have an amazing play place with different very detailed stations.

Fun classes! We got to take 2 coding classes and the kids were very engaged. We were sad there was no documentary on the IMAX the last time we visited because we were not able to fully utilize our movie lovers membership.

This place is fantastic for the kids. You will need an entire day to explore and observe the center. It has some things to do, the kids wont get bored. It is divided in three sections. First floor is science and very hands- on. The second they have dinosour exhibit. They have a dedicated area for kids 6 years old under, and it is very pretty. It is worth your time and money. I had been different kids museum but this one has everything in one.

A Huge aquarium, a tank to touch rays, kinetic interactive exhibits, an In-Door self-generating tornado, 5yo and below kids exhibits with interactive water vortexes, and much more. FULL STARS!

They do a great job at providing a place for your kids (and you) to explore, learn, and have fun while they are at it. It’s great for all ages! I’ve been going there for years, both as a child and with children. It’s also a great place for field trips. They have really cool temporary exhibits that come and go as well. I loved when they had the giant Lego room and you could build and race Lego cars down big ramps. We highly recommend McWane.
Located in Birmingham, AL, the Birmingham Botanical Gardens are a lush 67.5 acre park that features over 12,000 species of plants from all around the world. The gardens also feature 25 outdoor exhibits, 30 sculptures, a 2-mile walking trail and more. Admission is free and the grounds include a library and art gallery.
We really enjoyed our trip. There was plenty to see, the benches were nice swings, a big variety of plants looked healthy and taken care of. It is right next to a busy road, so some parts can be fairly noisy. But overall it's a very enjoyable experience. They have a couple of different public bathrooms and some vending machines for quick drinks. Plenty of shady areas to enjoy the scenery. We didn't try the cafe, but there is one there that serves lunch. There's no entrance fee, but they do ask for donations. It's also mostly wheelchair accessible everywhere. Even the gravel paths aren't too bad.

Such beautiful and expansive botanic gardens! There’s lots of variety of different gardens, including a beautiful Japanese garden and various climate zones inside of the conservatory. Well worth a visit and you can easily spend a couple of hours walking around.

This is a super-large botanical garden. There are many varieties of flowers, the trees are lush, and the birds are singing and the flowers are fragrant. Such a beautiful scenery, but it is rare to confiscate the tickets. If you want to visit here, you should arrive earlier, especially on weekends and holidays. Although the parking lot is quite large, it is never enough. When the weather is good, it is a sea of people.

Such a wonderful place to come and enjoy a beautiful Birmingham day. It’s always peaceful and nice here in pretty much any season. I love the Japanese section of the gardens and the boardwalk through the bamboo is very well done. Also don’t miss the moon tree next to the rose garden near the entrance. I feel like every time we come we discover a new section of the gardens. I highly recommend.

This is a beautiful place to spend the day. I can't wait to come back thru in the spring and catch some of the blooms that I missed by being there later in the year. Free parking and free admission and great views, you can't ask for much more. Spend the day walking the paths and sitting by one of the fountains and just enjoy nature.

While on my work contract in Birmingham, I unexpectedly discovered the city's Botanical Garden and was pleasantly surprised by its charm. It's truly a hidden gem that should not be missed. The conservatory, with its breathtaking beauty and vastness, left me in awe. Additionally, the garden itself offers a diverse range of areas to explore, providing something for everyone to enjoy. If you haven't had the chance to visit yet, I highly recommend it.

Absolutely delightful place to visit. It is well organized, it has a nice mix of trail like hikes and flowery gardens, some of them consisting of fruits and vegetables. It’s even better when you consider it is entirely free, as all these cultural spaces should always be. They’ve done a great job at organizing the plant life in different sections. Wonderful destination to spend a few hours, and there’s an area with restaurants and shops just 2 minutes away by car. %100 recommended you visit these gardens, I will surely stop by every time I’m in town. A walk around here enjoying nature is good for your health and good for the soul.

We went for the Cherry 🌸 Blossom Festival. Parking was of course spars, but found a lot that was right across the street. But FREE admission! That is not a thing where we're from.
This place is beautiful! Hosting some of my favorite flora and a vast bamboo garden with a canopy that you can hide out in from the sun.
I cannot wait to come back to explore the rest of the garden!

This is a very magical place! We stopped in early April so not all things were in bloom but the Rhododendrons were spectacular.
The place is huge so make sure you have walking shoes on. We learned so much!
Looking forward to visiting during the different seasons.
Pics- my husband found two pencils on a path and they made for some cute pictures.

Wish I could give this place a higher review, it seems like a great botanical garden, but I visited in November, and on a Monday (which the conservatory is closed on, apparently), and on the day I visited they had most of the water features turned off, likely for maintenance as there were a lot of guys walking around with tools working on PVC pipes. I guess its just a bad day, but I didn't choose when work sent me to Birmingham. The Japanese garden was pretty good despite the cool weather and the fern garden was lovely.

We spend more than an hour walking through. There is no entrance fee and absolutely free to enjoy there. We visited on Monday and the Green house was closed since it's a holiday on Monday. There are some beautiful swings on the way to the Japanese garden. The graden is structured well. There is a water body were we can see turtles both big and small, fish. They have restrooms and benches in some areas.

Perfect to hike, run, checking out the vegetation. Visited on a Monday had the place to ourselves. Grounds keepers super friendly and knowledgeable. Best part garden visit is free!

Beautiful garden to visit and explore for any occasion. It's free entry, full of gorgeous plants to take pictures of and with, and has plenty of swings, benches, and shaded areas to take a break by.
If you're passing through the area or need a break from traveling on a long road trip, definitely a good spot to stretch your legs.

Lovely place for a stroll and a quick activity for the whole family! The gardens are well take care of and there are numerous areas to explore, my favorite wad the rose gardens. My one issue was that there were no maps to keep track of where you were, or I just didn’t know where to look.

The Birmingham Botanical Gardens were the highlight of my trip to Alabama. The location is quite beautiful and there is so much to see. They have rose gardens, vegetable gardens, wildflowers, a conservatory, and a ton of woodlands plus a Japanese Friendship Garden with a koi pond and bamboo walkway. We spent about 2 hours just walking around and taking in the beauty of the place. Tons of areas for a lot of great pictures. When we went, we saw a ton of students taking prom pictures and I know those must have come out great! Although there were many people, the place is large so it did not feel crowded to us. They have easy to follow maps and trails and their koi pond also featured swimming turtles. A really beautiful place for sure and it was free entrance when we went. They also have a pretty large gift shop with a ton of goodies.

It's huge and free what more can you ask for? Lots of places to sit and enjoy the views, swinging benches are an unexpected bonus. The Asian garden was my favorite, the pond with the koi and turtles the bamboo walk through, tea house and all the plants. It was a nice way to spend a few hours. Lots of families and joggers enjoying the garden.

Walk in: no admission fee. Huge. Walk for a couple of hours and not see it all. Staff answer questions. Keith, who we interrupted while he worked, is remarkably knowledgeable about the garden: its history and particular plant species. A delightful place ranking high among the gardens we have visited (Morris, St. Louis, Denver)

Absolutely stunning place, of course we came in the Fall but there was a lot still blooming. I can only imagine what Spring time looks like up here! It's huge! Could easily spend all day here if you're a nature lover like myself just taking in the wonderful sights and the magnificent smells. Ended up leaving with some plants and it's Free to walk in. Mobile and surrounding places need to take note. Will definitely be back

We visited over the week end during the Cherry Blossom festival. We waited in line for about 1 and a half hours to get a parking spot and that is about as long as our visit was. My first stop was the ladies bathroom with a waiting line and only 4 stalls. One of the paper towel dispensers did not work. The stall needed a major cleaning and it pretty much reflects the lack of attention of the gardens. The scenery was average. The neighboring houses were prettier and nicer than the gardens. The pictures are of the dirty bathroom and the bonsai display.

There's so much to take in at this park. Beautiful scenery, nice and cool. Friendly staff and patrons. The only thing that I noticed and uncomfortable with was the big pond in the Japanese Garden area had a lot of chemical pollution (PFAS/PFOS). They are widely used in non stick/water repellents. They're long lasting chemicals that break down very slowly over time and has pretty bad health risks once it gets in the body and builds over time. How you know it's present is all the clusters of bubbles on the surface. One of the chemical is hydrophilic and the other side is hydrophobic making it float. I wouldn't touch the water if I were you.

Ohhh my goshhh, this is the best garden I've ever been to, the japanese gardens is one that everyone needs to go, it's almost like a place that you can hang around to relieve yourself from stress.
Atmosphere: There is a simple way around, yep that's right, a map 🗺️ , multiple gardens to explore including greenhouses, straight plants, a wishing well, pavilions, and more.
Experience: People everywhere, and by that I mean a ton of people, with the ratings and reviews, I know for a fact that this garden is popular no matter the weather or season. Parking spots to choose from, as far as I know, there are no pets or bicycles allowed but I can't say for sure because some people had pets but no bicycles but I get that because they want you to enjoy the scenery and not walk up a bunch of steps with a bike in your hands.
Region's Field is a 360-degree concourse located in the heart of Birmingham, AL that is home to the Birmingham Barons minor league baseball team. Offering local eats and family-friendly activities like inflatables and face painting, Regions Field is perfect for any afternoon or evening out. The stadium typically runs from late March to early September which means there are always events happening!
This year we visited regions field on the first barons game of the season. The barons whooped the other team and the post game fireworks were amazing. We love the inflatables for the kids so they don’t get bored during the game and there is a wide variety of food and alcohol. I look forward to going downtown again. I also like the fact that it’s not difficult to find a good parking spot.

Best field trip ever!! The park itself is massive with more than five concessions stands, multiple other eateries, four grassy areas for sitting on a towel or in a chair, not to mention the massive amount of stadium seating offered. This facility is completely handicap accessible to include the bathrooms which for a public baseball field were extremely clean. I went with Warrior Elementary a school in Jefferson County on a field trip there and was not disappointed. We watched the Birmingham Barons play the Tennessee Smokies and it was an excellent and exciting game.

The field itself is nice and the views are good, but as with most entertainment district’s food pricing: highway robbery. $4.25 for bottled water, $14 for a hotdog meal. Going to see a game is a good time, but it’s not very feasible to go and feed a family for a fun dinner night out on a budget. I don’t even have kids yet and this stands out to me. Other than that, go out and support the Birmingham Barons!! It’s fun to support the community minor league team.

A facility this big and no real parking? Who was in charge of this design?
Catch as catch can for free street parking within a reasonable distance. Several questionable people around will tell you to park in places designated as No Parking and then charge you $15. Hope your car is there (without a ticket) when you return. So far, no issues, but it still stresses me out every time. More secure parking would bump this review up a star.
CASHLESS VENUE, so make sure you have a card. Food and drink prices are as expected for any venue like this. As of Aug 2023, beer is $8-9.25, hot dog $4, chicken and fries $12, 8" PJ pizza $9. Highly recommend the Philly at the standalone grill. Long wait, but very worth it. Big, delicious, $12. Whatever your choice, get your food fast before they run out of what you want. (Pizza sold out before the game even started! Ketchup was also empty.) All lines moved relatively quickly.
Get your ID checked at the standalone kiosk before standing in line for alcohol.
Alcohol sales stop at the bottom of the 7th inning.
Games go fairly quickly with new timer rules. Hope to see them win someday. Fireworks after the game are always nice for spectators.

This is a good experience. Drove up to cheer on The Montgomery Biscuits. Let’s Go Yeast Boyz !!!!!! Let those Biscuits Rise. The experience of the venue was good. There wasn’t any security check points like the other MLB games I’ve been to. Honestly that made me feel safer. Food at food court is traditional ball park food. You have to get a wristband before purchasing alcoholic beverages at the ID checkpoint. It’ll be better if they were present/ available before you reach the vendor.

Magical night in the magic city. Between Midland, Chattanooga & Birmingham had 3 really great nights this summer.
They just don't care if you can't find a good people brew you like and you'd like to walk across the street to get the one you really want. Hassle free.
Birmingham & the Barons knocked this park outta the park.
This was better than the Nashville/von elrods setup. Not by much.
Birmingham locals, this is a great park. Enjoy it.
The Birmingham Zoo is a large and sprawling zoo that features elephants, lions, and hundreds of other animals. It is great for all ages and offers curious guests the chance to see some of the planets most fascinating creatures up close.
Glow Wild at the Birmingham Zoo is absolutely incredible. There are many lighted sculptures and it's fun to meander around and try to see them all. The train ride is about 8 minutes and you get to see a lot of different areas. This is a great family-friendly event that's totally enjoyable for adults as well. Have a hot chocolate with Schnapps to take the chill off and wander around the fairy tale grounds. Highly recommend! Also can't wait to visit the Zoo in the daylight hours and see the real animals which are not part of Glow Wild since it's dark.

We visited yesterday for Memorial Day. There wasn't a line to enter so that was great. The zoo layout is good and the pathways provide a combination of sun and shade so we weren't too hot. I believe the majority of the animals were out for us to see. They don't give you a physical map and the digital one was confusing. It is better to use the large maps throughout the park.
Now for the cons. A lot of the exhibits with glass were hard to see through because it was so dirty. It made seeing and taking decent pictures nearly impossible. The food and drinks are so overpriced. Pack your own water to avoid paying $5 a bottle. There were quite a few off exhibit display signs so I'm not sure which animals we didn't get to see.
Overall a good experience. We enjoyed ourselves.

My middle daughter and I love the zoo. I’ve been here three years and this was my first visit to the zoo. It was great, even though it was mid week and cold outside. So we got memberships and excited to go see the lights one evening.

Been coming here since I was a child in the 90s and it's still as big & fun as I remember. The elephant habitat was beautiful and the elephants were interactive and enjoyed eating their snacks off the ground in front of us. The entire place was clean and well kept. My favorite part of the grounds is the giant Wisteria canopy that was in full bloom when we went in early spring. It was breathtakingly beautiful and made the whole area smell amazing.
Most of the animals were sleepy on the day that we visited so there wasn't much action but that's to be expected. They have a pretty cool swamp for their reptiles. Use discretion if you have any autistic children as the crowd was pretty closely packed in the indoor habitats at times, but we were allowed to roam free throughout the zoo without needing to follow a group or guide.
The only real complaints that we had are regarding the parking situation and the concessions/food options. Parking was a nightmare, we ended up having to just pick a random spot close to the parking area and go with it. This zoo does not allow outside food or drink, yet the restaurant with the outdoor dining area didn't provide a great experience at all. We waited over 40 minutes after placing an order for a burger and fries and ended up just having to get a refund and keep it moving as we were just so tired of waiting. Not to mention the prices of the menu items are way too high.
It was also like $20 to rent a stroller which is ridiculous when you can go purchase a new stroller at a department store for the same price. They even charge you to feed the animals which is insane. I could understand paying a few quarters for a handful of feed like at other places, but come on. There is a substantial discount for children and for families on EBT which is awesome, but they'll charge you for every tiny thing on top of the entrance fees, so be prepared for that.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the zoo with my five-year-old cousin's kindergarten class. We had an enjoyable and educational experience. The zoo showcased a diverse range of animals, including elephants, giraffes, various bird species, and lions. The red pandas were particularly adorable. We were fortunate enough to witness the newborn giraffe, which was a special treat. The train ride provided a welcome respite from walking and allowed us to rest and take in the surroundings.
We dined at Wild Burger, which, while somewhat pricey, is understandable given the need for revenue generation. Every staff member I interacted with was knowledgeable, helpful, and passionate about their work. This was my inaugural visit to the zoo, and I intend to return in the future.

I would definitely recommend! Food and drinks are horribly overpriced!!!! Almost $5 for a 16.9 bottle of water. Didn’t get to see any tigers. They only had a lioness no lion. All we saw was 1 elephant. We went with our daughters school. It was still great! Had lots of fun!

I love that the Zoo has upgraded and I actually enjoyed the food here too.

We had a lovely visit to the zoo! We arrived fairly early to ensure we saw as many animals before their afternoon feed and siesta. They were wide awake and ready to roar. Speaking of roars, as we walked by the lion, he was revving up and let out the biggest, deepest roar!! It was a first for us all to hear and gave us such excitement! Our little ones will never forget the experience! It was a lovely day, not too crowded, and lines to the train and carousel were minimal. Thanks to the zoo keepers and helpers for a wonderful visit.

Prepare to be amazed at this exceptional zoo! Impeccably maintained, spotlessly clean, and staffed by an incredible team, our visit left us with an overwhelmingly positive impression. So much so, that we made the decision to become proud members! We eagerly anticipate returning to this extraordinary establishment, not just once, but again and again. We are especially excited about the upcoming holiday celebrations, as they provide the perfect backdrop for creating cherished memories with our children. With endless opportunities for learning and play, this zoo has truly captured our hearts and ignited our imaginations.

I thought this place was great for a side trip while in the area. The elephants were a highlight because they have a spacious habitat to walk around. There was one elephant in particular that liked to rest by leaning against a rock and stood around with his back legs crossed. The lion roared really loud once and we heard it all the way on the side of the zoo!

Visiting this zoo from North Carolina! While it was hard to not compare one of the largest zoos to this one. I did notice a lot of things that made this zoo feel very outdated.
The windows in almost all of the exhibits where nasty and dirty. It would have been nice to have them clean and be able to see through them (and yes that is possible). The seal tank looked like it was something out of the 80s that was abandoned. Traffic should have been re-routed around it due to its looks. Lots of the park just needs regular maintenance, lots of spider webs inside places or dark corners. Lots of closed exhibits as well.
I will say, being a small park, we were able to get very close to the elephants and that was very nice. We were also able to hear the lion roar which was really cool.
This zoo is a one and done type thing, unless you live local and do the events that they have (similar to how big museums do).

As a family we love going to the Birmingham zoo. I advise getting the annual pass though. From lions and elephants to otters and exotic birds they have a large selection of animals. The animals are usually out and easy to view. I honestly don't know what the rules are on this but no one seems to mind or say anything when we bring our own snacks or drinks which is really nice when you are trying to save money.
Pros:
-The lorikeets are amazing and so much fun to interact with.
-The vast array of animals that can be seen
-Membership is reasonably priced
-There's a petting zoo
-There's a small splash pad that is free. It is very small though
-There are play areas
Cons:
-The zoo is not staffed very well which means there are few people to regulate what other guests are doing. I have found people smoking cigarettes before and there was no one around to report to.
-Because it's so short staffed, you don't get to talk to the zookeepers very often to ask questions
-Extras like the train and carousel are a bit pricey

I hadn't been to B'ham Zoo in years and had been wanting to go again but admit I felt a little apprehensive after reading the more recent reviews and many were low star ratings. However we had a good experience today and I felt those bad reviews were very misleading. While some exhibits were closed, that can be expected with renovations. The zoo was packed and looked clean and nice. Still lots of animals to see even with the few that were not on exhibit. The train was a nice and a relaxing ride that lasts for a pretty good about of time for only $3.95/ticket. You can see some animals as well as some back lot areas of the zoo as the train meanders a circle around most of the zoo. It will be neat to go back again sometime after they finish renovations. (We do not live in state so that is the only reason we will not be able to visit more often).

Nice size zoo, you can see everything's and be leisurely about it in about two hours. The Birmingham botanical gardens are also close. Get there early and get tickets online to avoid the crowd! Food was quick at their zoo restaurant. Parents and kids can be rude in this area though, that's not the zoos fault! A few animals were not in exhibits, hopefully everyone will be "home" by summer. Interesting play structures for children.

We had such a fun day. At the gate you can purchase tickets for the train ride, carasel and general admission. You can purchase tickets to feed the giraffes, as of Sept 24, 2022 it was $4 per person, kids under 2 is free. The zoo employee was sweet in handing us lettuce to give to the giraffes and take pictures for us. We loved seeing the primates and the elephants. There are loads of animals to see such as zebras, ostrich, red pandas, sand cat, lion, jaguar, and so on. They are adding some new exhibits very soon. If you do the train make sure to check the times for when it departs, we made a mistake of not checking and ended up not being able to get onto the train by the time we left the zoo. If you need strollers or wheelchairs you can rent those, the kiosk is on the outside of the gift shop. They don't hand out maps, there is a QR code you can scan to get the map on your phone. The gift shop is very nice, we bought only a magnet but they sell toys, stuffed animals, clothes, hats, jewelry, hand soaps, posters and many more things.

I like visiting different American cities and it is always nice when the city has a zoo. I say that because, with two teenage girls, zoos are the one attraction that we can all agree to visit. On a recent trip to Birmingham, Alabama, we had several hours before our flight from the local airport, and it was just the amount of time we needed to visit the Birmingham Zoo.
We arrived at the zoo around noon and, fortunately for us, it wasn’t very crowded and we didn’t have any trouble finding a place to park. Walking inside, we decided to forgo using a map and started to visit the different animals based on whatever caught our attention. We continued to go from one section to the next until we had covered everything, which took less than two hours.
The Birmingham Zoo is staffed by friendly folks and even though it wasn’t that crowded overall, there were lots of kids present, many of them from local summer schools, apparently. It was great to see so many happy children making their way from one animal exhibit to the next and learning about the different species. Zoos are great fun and great education for young people and it was nice to see so many youngsters soaking up the scenery and learning about the creatures that inhabit our planet.
There were a fair number of animal exhibits that were closed, so we were a little disappointed in that respect. We also noticed that some of the areas, while clean, were in disrepair and this was most evident with the indoor exhibits. We also noticed that the Birmingham Zoo does have a train that will take you from place to place, for an added fee. We decided to keep walking, but it is good to know that this option is there, for those who need it.
The animals on display at the Birmingham Zoo seemed to be well taken care of and while this zoo isn’t as large as others I have visited, it proved worth the investment of time and money. It is very close to the airport- only about 7 miles away- and thus made for a nice excursion before flying home. I recommend a visit if you find yourself in the Birmingham area.

Great family zoo! Fantastic walkways, paths, and landscaping. My personal favorites are the primates, reptile house, girraffes and Elephants. However you won't be close to the Elephants as their range is a far distance from the public viewing areas. Plenty of parking, and vending for food. The Lorokeet experience is a must! Especially with children! Reasonable admission prices too, just a little over 20. For adults and children are about 17.

Went to the Birmingham Zoo on my sons 16th birthday February 21st. The cost of three tickets was $65.
We enjoyed the zoo and were a little let down due to some exhibits being closed. Would be nice not to be charged full price. We also were let down the Wild Burger restaurant was closed when we were there. We ate at the other restaurant called Nourish 205. Good burgers/fries and great personal pan pizzas. With the cost of admission and food we spent $100

I remember going to the Birmingham Zoo as a kid and being amazed at all the different animals in their habitats. It was such a treat to go and I enjoyed myself immensely. I have such fond memories and wanted to do my part in supporting the zoo when I became an adult. I purchased a membership right away and take my children regularly.
However, lately the zoo seems to be in terrible shape. Of course when you walk in, it looks newly redone, but the exhibits themselves look awful or are closed most of the time. We went today, and I took more photos of different sections being blocked or roped off than actual animals. Then, when you do see an animal it is through filthy glass or plastic shields. The reptile and feline areas are disgraceful. There has been an awful job done boarding up and patching instead of remodeling it.
I purchased train tickets just so we could have something to do today. But even that was disappointing. There is more trash or storage than animals being seen. I don't understand. Even what I was told originally when gifted our first membership has changed. The facility is no longer open year long, except for holidays. I have to make sure it's not a Monday or Tuesday and then pray we get to see anything before closing at 4 p.m. The coupons I recieved are worthless. The parakeet house is under construction and the giraffe feedings are hardly ever being offered. The carousel Is still being refurbished and the camel rides are no longer available.
I am all about preserving wildlife and protecting different species. But I do not see much of that being administered according to the state of the place. I feel awful for a lot of the creatures, and my kids were upset by how most of them looked -- when actually seen. It was a very sad trip and makes me question if I want to keep investing money into something that holds no value or little benefit.

It's been 2 years since our last visit to the birmingham zoo. The entrance and courtyard area are new and beautiful so was the gift shop. Unfortunately most of the other areas are still in major need of an update. I was very surprised to see even fewer animals than my last visit. The animals that they did have were beautiful and healthy. I paid 91 dollars for four adult tickets and a single 12 oz can of beer was 10 dollars. Both were outrageous. The reptile display was still closed. There was a cool looking roof top area that could be used as a bar that over looked the zoo. The progress has been extremely slow and it seems like there are several opportunities that aren't being utilized. Overall we were disappointed with the present state of the zoo. Let me also say it bothers me to say this because I support the zoo 100 percent. Whoever is calling the shots in birmingham needs to send funds immediately to fix this situation. The city leaders should be ashamed of themselves for letting this happen.

We went for valentines day and it was a lovely experience! I hadn't been able to go back to the zoo for many years, so it was great seeing the zoo has expanded and improved!
Plenty of stands, benches and places to rest, I didn't feel stranded at any point.
Highly recommend for anyone from families, to couples and more!
The Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark is a popular tourist attraction in Birmingham, Alabama that tells the story of the local iron production industry. The site contains artifacts and information about the workers who built the furnaces and their impact on the city's growth.
If you're at all interested by industrial history, Sloss Furnace is a great place to go. I recommend go to visitors center first, get the self-guided tour map and start walking. You'll understand better how the iron-making process works a bit better. Each stop on the tour has signs with more details. Small gift shop with crafted metal curios, T-shirts, books hats, and also bathrooms at the visitor center.

I grew up in central Alabama, so I’d certainly heard of Sloss Furnaces but I had only recently visited. I took three of my children (12, 15, 17) and we all loved it! Plenty to explore, great photo opportunities, and lots to read and learn.

Such a cool place and even better that it’s free! You can take as much or as little time as you want. The map for the self guided tour is slightly hard to follow, but if you wander around you will hit all the stops. Highly recommend!!

Finally got the chance to briefly visit this piece of American history in early January. Been wanting to bring my camera here for years, and it didn't disappoint. It was a self guided tour and a slow day, so I got the whole place to myself. This vast beautiful fossil of America's industrial boom will require a long leisurely day to capture it right. Luckily there's a nice brewpub across the road from it. It was surprisingly accessible for my elderly dad, though I wouldn't recommend bringing pets or small children as there are many places for them to disappear, fall, or get stuck. Would be a fascinating tour through history and manufacturing for an older kid though.

What a fascinating find! My friend heard good things and booked a Friday morning tour for us. We were running late driving north and couldn’t cross the railroad tracks because a train was just chilling in front of us (apparently that happens a lot) so we called and were directed to go over a nearby bridge. Slight detour so budget a few extra minutes in case! Our tour guide Ty was really knowledgeable and engaging, with great energy. He answered all our questions and took us through the history of industry in Birmingham, and how Sloss cranked out pig iron in its heydays. Touched on environmental, social and racial issues as well, which gave a lot of depth to our tour.
Afterwards we were free to explore the area, which apparently makes it one of 3 sites like this in the world to offer such an intimate experience (other 2 in Mexico and Germany). The facilities are well kept and the history well preserved. You can tell the staff really care about the work they do. The small exhibit in the building is worth checking out too if you wanted to see a video of the old machines in action.
Walking around the grounds does something to you—the machines, the stories, the process. Makes you wonder who the people were behind the back-breaking labor and the profits. Leaves much to the imagination and provokes you to think. I highly recommend everyone get a chance to experience this tour if they’re in the city. You’ll learn something new you never expected to learn.

I love this place since I first visited about 15 years ago. Change happens but overall I like it even more now. It is safer, cleaner, and the self guided tour is to the point. Yes, I know a lot more anecdotes and explored a lot more places but this is a well presented industrial museum. Go, bring your camera and imagine the heat, noise, and toil.

This is an interesting place to say the least. I am a paranormal investigator and have seen TV shows filmed here. They allow you to walk freely throughout the complex and there are interesting tid bits of information everywhere. Our hearts go out to those who worked there in its heyday. The owners and staff were cruel, unreasonable and unrelenting. If there are souls walking amongst the ruins let us pray that they do so freely and without suffering.

Very interesting museum of Birmingham’s history of iron making.
The site is free to visit but we took the guided tour and it was $10 per person and well worth it. So much more to learn than what is posted. Guided tour hits the hot spots answers any and all questions and then you are left to roam freely. The tour takes about 1 hour. Mostly shaded but there are many areas out in the sun so bring some water.
Come see this amazing hit of history!

We had the pleasure of touring during Furnace Fest, and it was breathtaking! Everything in here was so much bigger than we were, it was truly incredible and just like taking a step back into history. I’d like to thank David, who was working with Sloss, for taking the time to speak with us about the history and show us pictures of their ironworking from his own phone. I think it’s fantastic that they are bringing in artists to utilize some of this incredible space. We purchased an iron banana and a brussels sprout, made here, which we thought was a very cool concept. I can’t wait for their website to launch and follow more of their ironwork! I hope to visit again soon and take the full tour, it was an amazing time. We thank the entire Sloss team, for allowing us festival goers to tour a portion of this historical property, we loved it.

Sloss is a fascinating place to explore and absorb. I've visited many times. Today we attended Corks & Chefs, part if the Magic City Art Connection festival. The festival was fantastic and we found a few things to buy. There's so much to see at Sloss; it's a great place to walk around and see what was so important to Birmingham's growth and development. It's also a great venue.

Awesome experience at one of Americas iron furnaces. I was really impressed with the amount of areas you can walk through and get to see so much of the grounds. Definitely a must go if you are in the area. Plan to spend at leave 1.5 hours here and when you are done stop in at Back Forty for drinks and food for excellent dusk views of the furnaces.

My family was pleasantly surprised with this visit. The visitor's center was clean, bright, and full of helpful history. The young lady at the front desk was helpful and even recommended other things to do in the area. We did the self-guided tour, which was interesting and a lot of fun. I wouldn't take young kids here. My college-age sons found it fascinating.

Very cool place to visit! We visited right at opening and the park wasn’t too busy. The park is free for self guided tours and we enjoyed our time there. It was very picturesque and neat. Only thing we wish is that the park would allow you to explore more places. Still, for free, I would recommend visiting.

I LOVE SLOSS. This is my second visit to Sloss because I just enjoy visiting here so much. I think the site is one of the coolest places ever to walk around, look at old metal, and learn about the history of Birmingham. The staff are also super nice and one of them took me and my friends on a mini tour. During this visit they were having a drone racing event so part of the grounds were blocked off which was disappointing, but the lovely tour made up for it. Excited to go back to Sloss again someday.

Sloss Furnaces is an outstanding example of a historical site that has been restored to be an educational tourist site. The site is full of informational plaques to share the history not only of the place, but also its impact on the city.
If that isn't enough, it is also a site known for paranormal activity for all you ghost hunters. I have personally seen light orbs and had anomalies appear on video.
Whichever interest you have, paranormal or historical, it is a great place to visit with the entire family.

Get the drama of the iron age! The museum is light on content and the staff dozy but, hey, its free. The works themselves are dramatic and simply huge scale and well worth a visit. It was disappointing that you couldn't go into the tunnel or up any of the stairs to get an aerial view.
The Birmingham Museum of Art is a wonderful place with a sculpture garden and cafe that displays artwork from all over the world. The museum is free to enter and has an impressive collection of paintings, sculptures, and prints from different cultures. It also offers children's activities such as scavenger hunts and interactive galleries for toddlers.
Lovely place to go and enjoy for free. Great for day date or for family. Pack snacks and you can stop and eat them at the seating area inside or in the garden if the weather is nice. My only complaint is that it was very warm when we went this past weekend. A thermostat we saw said 72 degrees... When walking through exhibits it seems even warmer than that. I do wish there were more modern exhibits.

A beautiful museum with a huge collection of art. Admission was free and staff members were kind. They had really cool displays, not just European art, an incredible Native American art collection!! Bathrooms were accessible and clean. They have small folding chairs you can carry around for free. You can stop to look at specific pieces or just to take a quick break.

Pretty small museum for the city. It’s about 2 floors and includes a sculpture garden. I would say it’s just an average/standard museum in comparison to other cities. We were done in about an hour. I was not particularly impressed by the collection, however they had a small exhibit called “Nappy” that focused on the hair of African American women and that was pretty incredible. I was almost disappointed that they didn’t have more pieces as this was the best part of the museum. I would come back because it’s free and a good place to visit, but don’t expect anything too large. They also had a paid exhibit on Disney movie costumes for a price, but we did not go in there. The museum shop was also small and half was all Disney related stuff due to the exhibit so that was a bit of a bummer.

Must visit place if you are art lover or not. Huge collection of arts from all ancient times until now. Excellent facility and extremely well maintained. Amazed by the quality of art and the evolution over the ages. Couldn't restrict how people imagined and created such mesmerizing arts when the so-called modern technologies were not present. Must appreciate the museum authorities for the collection of arts and the way they maintain it. Will visit again and again for sure.

Awesome. The collections are diverse, and the historical background was insightful. The artifacts are so well displayed and in perfect condition. You need a whole day here, so many rooms with new thought-provoking history. The collections were impressive. The black hair gallery was disappointing and stereotype.
Staff and customer service were helpful, respectful, and watchful but discrete.
Big kudos to the museum staff and supporters. Well worth the visit.

This museum is such a resource to the city! This art museum features free admission (donation boxes provided), free (limited) designated parking, rotating special exhibits, weekly discussions focusing on a specific piece, special night-life events, and an event venue all wrapped up in this marbled, art-deco building. Birmingham truly is lucky! Recently, they recently partnered with Juniper, a local restaurant, operate as a cafe on weekdays during lunch and on specific weekends listed on the museum’s website. I cannot wait to go on a lunch date here with my wife! Definitely support this wonderful organization.

Located in Birmingham, Alabama, 16th Street Baptist Church is the first colored Baptist Church to exist in the city and site of a bombing during the civil rights movement. The church has been vibrant and beautiful for many years since then. It is a great place to learn about the history of Birmingham and its civil rights movement through one of its walking tours.
We were excited to visit this historic civil rights location. Although known for a sad event, I am proud to be able to visit the memorial site. My visit allowed me to be a part of our American history decades later.

A very interesting Church with a lot of history. Buy tickets beforehand and be sure to wear masks. If you don't have them they will give them to you. They pass you off from guide to guide as they go over what happened there in the 60s. The four little girls who killed will never be forgotten.

We visited here as part of a research workshop that UAB hosted, and after going I’m ashamed to be a Birmingham citizen that hasn’t visited this beautiful church before. Reverend Price was on a panel that spoke to our group about the history of the church dating back to right after the Emancipation Proclamation. He knew so many details about the church’s history and struggle through the civil rights movement. I didn’t know that the church puts on tours throughout the week and is working on opening its own small museum to educate about civil rights. Definitely go support and visit this historic church!

Came here to see this part of History. And I wanted to see the glass from Wales. I talked to someone here and they said for me to come in I have to pay $10. I don't see anyone else talking about the fee. I've never heard of a church where you have to pay to come into it. Really? A church that charges you to come through the door. Disgusting. Wanting to make a buck off something religious like this. If they were serious about their mission they should not only do it for free they should be inviting people in from all walks of life and welcoming everyone. Apparently they don't want to make a difference. They just want to make some extra cash. I've been in churches that have been on the national registry That have not charged a penny. I just I'm really disappointed. Did I pay for it? No way. I don't want a tour. I just wanted to enjoy the church.

The Alabama Theatre is a beautiful and historic former movie theater located in downtown Birmingham, AL. It regularly hosts concerts, live theatre, classic films, and ballet performances. The auditorium is decorated with rich art deco details and attracts many tourists to its events and shows.
This iconic theatre built in 1927 is opulent, grand and especially wonderful at Christmastime. They did a series of holiday movies for a minimal ticket price and I enjoyed it immensely. Just being in the theatre was a great experience but we also got a vintage cartoon to kick things off, a MOST entertaining man playing the Wurlitzer organ which rises from the floor and a sing along! Plus the concession stand serves beer, wine and cocktails. So. Much. Fun. I hope to return soon and hope this theatre is around for many generations to come.

This is the second time I have been in this theatre. An iconic venue to watch your favorite musical artist up close and personal. I don’t think there is a bad seat but there are some really good ones to choose from. Had the privilege of seeing Casting Crowns 20th anniversary tour with a string orchestra accompanying them. I previously was able to see Casting Crowns at the Greensboro Coliseum in NC, but needed binoculars to even see the stage. Here was a whole different story and a much better experience. Amazing night at the Alabama Theater! We celebrated a family member’s birthday and saw “Christmas Vacation”. It was so good and we got to meet organist Gary Jones after the movie and visit with him a little. Everyone was so nice and friendly and accommodating! It was a general admission show but we all had the Christmas spirit and were patient with each other and the occasional crying baby and the lines for concessions. Best movie theater and concert venue I have ever visited. The opulent decorations and organ pipes give the auditorium an almost baroque appearance and the moment the mighty Wurlitzer organ ascends from the stage floor and fills the air with secular, sometimes whimsical, sometimes densely layered music, I am entering a state of childlike awe and wonder. Even the most mundane activity can create moments that stop you in your tracks. Every time I descend the stairs to the restrooms and enter the foyer, I am catapulted into a movie scene.

We were here for a dance competition and it was a gorgeous venue. It had great views of the stage from all over the theatre. However I’m giving a star off because of how horrendous the steep & narrow stair maze to get in & out of the dressing areas back stage are. Absolutely Beautiful Theater with such friendly staff!! We had a family emergency and was not able to make the Nutcracker show on time. Actually my wife and I showed up an hour after the curtain closed. We hated that we missed the show but I at least wanted to show my wife the inside of the theater. Zay was out front guarding the doors and she was so nice and friendly. She called Jerry who once checking our tickets gave us a small tour of the place so my wife could at least enjoy seeing the theater. Jerry didn’t have to take time out of his busy night for this but this is the kind of people that work here at the Alabama Theater. The theater was clean and fully restored and I didn’t see a bad seat in the house. Thank you Zay and Jerry! Brett and Amy Lovell - Hoover AL

This was my 2nd visit to the Alabama Theater for a concert. The last time was for Styx in 2022 and this time it was for George Lynch. They were both awesome shows. It is an excellent venue for both acoustics and aesthetics. I'm looking forward to going again in the future
The Kelly Ingram Park is a large public park in Birmingham, Alabama that commemorates the events of the Civil Rights Movement. The park includes many powerful sculptures depicting key moments in this history and is a great place to spend an afternoon surrounded by history.
Sorry about the dark photos, it was nearly nightfall when I took them.
I'm rating Kelly Ingram Park with 5 stars not because it's an enjoyable experience but a very heartfelt one. Regardless of your ethnicity, race, or melanin composition, everyone should pay a visit and remember the atrocities that occurred there decades ago. Lest we all forget the scars of our history and subject ourselves to repeating them.

Wonderful, heartfelt experience. Loved that you could scan each area to get detailed information. The artist(s) are absolutely amazing. I've visited many monuments, the details are life like. MLK actually looked like himself. You have to check out the Civil Rights Museum while you're there.

The park is right across the street from the Civil Rights Museum. Please go over and enjoy our history.

The park is close by to the 16th Street Baptist church, just across the street. Think Bull Connor and the children’s crusade did change the world. 1963 was pivotal. The idea of kids being jailed is a breath taking testament to raw courage. It is one thing to protest safely, it is entirely another to risk your life and well being for. That is real guts. When you see Eyes on the Prize or other documentaries you have an image in your mind. It is a serene park with a powerful history. Wish we had more time to see the rest of Birmingham.

Worth the trip. Love the dial in audio walking tour. Really immerse you in the momument and gives you a sense of the times. Powerful, inspiring and heartbreaking to this day.

Park near 16th St Baptist which details some history of the Civil Rights movement. There are some amazing and powerful sculptures, with information boards dotted around to give some of the history. The most poignant statue is probably the one to the 4 girls killed in the church bombing.
We were there in the evening around 19:30 and there were a few homeless people dotted around. They didn't cause any trouble for us at all, but just be aware. May not be any issue during the day.

Very nice and educational. I had little knowledge of the events that had taken place there before coming to the park. The cell phone tour is GENIUS, my wife and I loved it. We even met a gentleman who was there when it all went down and he spoke to us as well. So sad, but so glad you preserved those pivotal points of our history.

The history of this area is just mind blowing. I was honored to have set foot on the grounds of a major transition in history. My wife was worried about being emotional but, it was more inspirational. The phone guided tour is an awsome edition to the area.

Very moving experience. The phone-in audio tour was quirky but usable. Learned much more about the events that transpired there then I ever did in school. Every American should stop here.

Kelly Ingram Park offers powerful visual reminders of the violence acted against African people in the united states since the war on Africa by europeans began. A violence that has continued until today in response to African people’s quest for peace, healing and self-determination.
Avondale Brewing Company is a local brewery in Birmingham, Alabama. The brewery is housed in a historic building and some of its hand-crafted brews include Kings Wit Belgian Wheat, Pachyderm Pale Wheat, Spring Street Saison, Streetcar Kolsch, and many more.
Affiliated/partnered with/owned by the same folks as Good People Brewing (which explains why several of the beers had the same name).
The outdoor space is massive with a full concert stage set up. And at the back of that stage is a huge rear projection screen for watching sports, etc.
There are two food trucks available today, one open. I'm getting brisket tacos from Fat Charlie's. They smell amazing as I wait for my order. (They are amazing.)
I could definitely see coming here regularly if I lived anywhere nearby.

First time visit.
Went for the Modest Mouse concert.
Enjoyed the outdoor area. The turf adds a lot to the environment.
Drinks are expensive. Bar did not stock salt for their margaritas(!!) Also ran out of vodka (!!!). What kind of bar does not ensure adequate stock of such basic items.
Only 2 food trucks were available which ensured a long wait time.
Overall not much preparation went into this venue.
I would have to think really hard to ever return.

Always enjoy coming and sitting outside with friends and my dog. Great variety of beer and love the venue.

Avondale was a really fun spot to hang out, and there was a ton of space and huge projector in the back. The sour pash was pretty good, and I liked the Mexican lager. The yellowhammer was good, but I think it's just during football season.

Disappointed, but understanding. Venue for music has issues with clarity on ticket tiers, ticket pricing, and parking pricing and limitations, as well as no re-entry. Enjoyed the band, but security were telling us different things everyone we talked to for clarity about our ticket tier. They could do better. Beer was good. Taproom staff was great. Security had a delayed reaction time when an audience member needed urgent medical attention. Get a new security team and ticket management team for the love of god.

Fantastic. The bartender was very helpful and knowledgeable. The food truck in the back was top notch. We had the mushroom Swiss burger with sweet potato tots and the flank steak tacos. Everything was delicious. Will definitely be back when in Birmingham.

Flight o’clock! Decent selection on beer. Great set up with an outdoor stage for live music and plenty of land to relax enjoying some beer. My bartender Michael was awesome!

Great venue for live music. There are 2 stages the upstairs stage and the outside stage. I went to the upstairs stage to see death valley girls it was such an amazing show I was able to see the band up close right in front of them! Great to see independent amazing bands about to blow up! And support them!

Nice place. My biggest "issue" is that the beers were not labeled on the board who made them. Seems there were two different brewerys served here. Beers were solid but basic.

What a great place!! Did not know there was a BACK HIDDEN BAR, really different vibe and different drink options. Which is great bc I really prefer seltzers or ciders. I highly recommend the upstairs event space if you’re looking for a venue to host a large group. I host client events on a monthly basis and have not had a more seamless process than Avondale, thanks to our event planner, Sara Gilmore. She went above and beyond to make our event perfect. Our bartender, Elvis, also was phenomenal. We will definitely be back!
Red Mountain Park is a large park located in the city of Denver. It offers scenic trails, historic mines, and a dog park. The park is perfect for runners, hikers, and outdoor enthusiasts of all levels.
Lots of long trails to walk on and they’re spacious trails too! There’s always some interesting sights to see like an outdoor woods playground, zipline, historic mine, and art! Saw lots of families and dogs (very dog friendly and there’s a dog trail). It’s easy access from the parking lot to the trails (enter from across the street to the box visitors center). Will be visiting again and seeing how it looks in green!

Absolutely loved the hike. It was a fairly easy hike depending on which trail you take. We only had time to cover about a 1/3 of the park so we plan to go back. I wish there was more information about the structures. This park has a lot of history but it’s hard to figure out the structures.
Tina Smith — Google review
We hiked trail 15 to the end and were amazed by the abundant wildlife we saw. Early spring is the perfect time to see what this park has to offer. Some parts of 15 were a little rocky, but the elevation wasn't too high and there were a few places to stop and rest along the way.

Found this place on google maps. Big wide trails and big open spaces. Nice picnic areas, nice place to walk, run, biking. Great place for dogs. We walked for miles looking for excitement but not anything so we turned around and headed back to the car.

The perfect alternative to Oak Mountain State Park in case you can't go to that one due to paying for a ticket but that's no big deal, this is the best option.
Scenery/Atmosphere: My god is it so gorgeous, the view of Birmingham never gets old, the park usually is pretty old due to the railroad history it used to have and that makes it interesting for people to learn, there are structures too but you probably shouldn't stand or go near it for obvious reasons.
Accessibility: They have multiple trails, hiking, mountain biking, even a dog park, the park opens early and closes near evening but I'm sure they increase the time near Spring or something because it's still so cold this time of the year.
I really don't know why I haven't been here and reviewed it yet, but here yah go!! 😎

We hiked 12 miles on a Saturday. The old mines and history were really cool. The trails need to be marked better than they are. Pretty good view of birmingham. Cool historical place

Fantastic trail. Loved the old mine shafts. Temperature dropped 20 degrees in the #13 cove which was freaking awesome. All the zip line stuff was closed, not sure if that's permanent but trails were well managed and a great workout. Oh and ppotties spread around nicely for those in need:)))

Normally I've always gone to the dog park, but decided to hit the trails with the pups this go around. I did not realize how large of a park this is!!! So many neat spots and info to check out. Loved the rope bridge to the tree house such a beautiful view. 😍 I'm a huge fan of this park! There is a donation box in the entrance that is optional so don't forget to bring some change or a few dollars. It goes a long way to upkeep beautiful public spots!

Pretty cool place. They've got some abandoned buildings, trails and old mining equipment.
Sierra S. — Google review
This park is full of nature's best!. The trails are easy to follow and the wider ones are well traveled. There are many bikers, hikers, dog walker's, and even racers! Some of the tougher trails are single person trails and are definitely worth the effort. Ike will give you a nice run for your money if you're a trail runner.
There are many historic sights that seem to pop up from out of no where. Lookouts are just around the corner and give you fantastic views.
If you're for an ultra good time join up with the Birmingham Ultra Trail runners. They are very motivational and know all the good places to go!

This is a large park that we found on Google maps. I wish that we would have known a little more about this park before we started our trek. This is a shaded trail park with nice wide trails. We looked at the trail map and went 2.5 miles one way and only had the scenery of trees. If you have plenty of time this is probably the place for you. This park is dog friendly and we saw a few bikes as well.

Long flat trails would be ideal for roller skating. Pavement would be needed. The dirt trails are very dusty. Red sticky dust. But I still enjoyed it. Nice forest.

The Southern Museum of Flight is a top attraction for aviation fans of all ages in Birmingham, AL. The museum has over 100 aircraft on display and teaches kids about how airplanes fly while they're playing in a real aircraft simulator. There's also a hall of fame for Alabama aviators and a huge collection of memorabilia from aviation history.
This is an awesome museum! These folks have done a great job on their exhibits. My favorite is the Vietnam scene with the Cobra and the Little Bird. My only wish is it was bigger.
Something really cool is they have some cockpit trainers you can get it and it gives you a great feel if what it is like. We are definitely adding this to our regular quarterly stop along with the Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville.

This place is phenomenal!!!!!!!! The air planes and the history of it all are exceptional. There was even a section on the Alabama Tuskegee Air Men. I'm from Alabama, so this was good to see, and it enhanced my knowledge regarding history. Definitely deserves 5 stars.

We had a great time taking our family to the flight museum! Our young kids loved it. Pricing was reasonable, and parking a breeze. The exhibits were really fun and informative. There’s plenty to do and see; enough to keep you busy for several hours. The surrounding neighborhood is a bit rundown and some of the exhibits were closed or not clearly labeled; nothing that’s a deal breaker though. There’s a fun gift shop at the end. I would recommend it to others!

We visit it with a friend who is in the Air Force so it was so nice to have our private guide who knows close to everything.
Staff are very friendly.
Very nice planes, nice setups.

It was actually closed the day we went with no explanation as to why, but I gave it all the stars because we had so much fun driving around the airport and seeing all the old planes and enjoyed reading about the crafts on the placards
Stephanie Sword — Google review
It was a great little museum packed full of history, aircrafts, and aircraft parts. My boys absolutely loved it, especially sitting in the cockpits. We would have loved to do the flight simulators, but there were about 5 busses worth of students doing them. The field of aircrafts down the road is a bit sad...kind of like a plane graveyard. The gift shop isn't great either. The museum itself was fascinating, and at only $5 a person, completely worth the time.

A small museum dedicated to the aviation. It is has wonderful replicas of legendary planes, as the Wright bothers or Spirit of San Louis, an real pieces. Also an extensive objects collection related to the aviation.
Miguel Pati?o — Google review
Outstanding museum, the displays are ground level so you can see all the details. They have some extremely rare museum aircraft and a lot of engines and armaments scattered around. There is several planes, P80 A4(Blue Angel) F4 and F5 outside. Up the road at the airport is an F14 F111 A12 F105 and F86 are among the outside displays!

Driving to the Southern Museum of Flight, I was honestly not expecting much. The museum is in a mid to lower class residential area with very little signage apparent.
I was immediately overwhelmed. The facility is amazing, the displays are immaculately well-kept. The employees are very friendly. Overall, an amazing & beautiful museum.
The Shadow Gallery, highlighting CIA missions and people, was a very unexpected surprise as well. Beautifully well done and worth the entry price alone.
I do wish that the static aircraft displays which are down the road a little ways were better kept, but that was made up for by the museum itself.
Bravo.

What a wonderful museum! A wide variety of aircraft, vintage to modern. The Mi 24 Hind was a very nice surprise. That thing is huge! The A-12 drone was very unique as well.

They do have a separate outside aircraft on display but those are bad shape needing of some TLC. But worth a drive by for sure.

My 11-year-old son & I were away for a ⚽️ tournament & LOVED our visit here. We had 1 hour & were able to make the best visit with the time we had. This museum had so much rich history, artifacts, and vintage military & civilian collections - It was fascinating. I am in a pilot academy currently & this was very inspiring. The sweet gal staff member at the front desk & security guard were angels! They were so kind & helpful. They had such southern hospitality & represented this museum well. Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve is a 1,038-acre preserve in Birmingham, Alabama, home to a wide variety of plant and animal life. The preserve is also home to almost 12 miles of hiking trails and an environmental education center.
Hiking this mountain was one of the most peaceful mornings I’ve had in a while. It is actually located 12 minutes from Birmingham airport and the paths are beautiful. It has four different overlooks, clear paths and not so rough terrains. I have a five-year-old daughter, and I think that even she would have been able to climb this trail. It was quiet and peaceful. They even have a nature center with live animals, including turtles, snakes, and a couple other. The cliffs were my favorite part and parking was so easy.

There is a section of the trail that is very difficult. Overall the trail is well maintained with trail markers that are visible. There is a nature conservatory that is really cool. Plus a beautiful view of birmingham when you reach the quarry. We hiked about 7 miles. It is a pretty tough trail compared to red mountain and noccalula Park. Overall nice place to hike.

Entry level nature trail. Unpaved. About 1 hour relaxed hike to the top, where you can get a view of downtown Birmingham as well as the airport. $5 parking fee per car.

Very nice nature preserve! Worth the $5 they now ask for (this is new since I last visited since maybe a year or two ago). The main hike gives a great scenic overlook over Birmingham city. It’s not super big, so all of the hikes are short and sweet. I would rate all trails easy- not much incline but there are some rocky/uneven areas so would still recommend good footwear.

It’s awesome. We hiked a total of 5 miles on 2 different trails with 3 girls under 12 on a cold Sunday. The quarry was very cool as was the overlook of downtown and the airport. You can also see I-20 going over the marshlands in Irondale as well as the “split” with 59. The trails were moderately difficult but very doable even covered in leaves. As a horticulturist it was very cool seeing native southern magnolias here and ferns symbiotically growing on trees. It honestly does not bother me one bit paying a $5 parking fee. It goes to a great cause.

This hike was a December hike on the Ore Crusher trail.
Actually met an employee at the crusher and he answered all questions for us. Had he not been there I would have walked past an open mine.
Nice hike with definite difficulty with the elevation change, at least difficult for two old people haha.
Not many leaves in December but we did find many crane fly orchids that we notated to see next August.
So many trails and interesting things to see if you know some of the mining history of the Ham.

Be careful taking your pups on the trails and check them for ticks. I got home and found six ticks on one of them, and three ticks on the other. Both are on tick preventatives so I was very surprised. We did the quarry trail but towards the end I couldn’t quite tell where the overlook looking over the city was. Slightly disappointed that we didn’t get to see the best view. Won’t be back because it was a three hour drive from Georgia for us, and there were too many ticks for it to be worth it. They have lots of trails though so I say it’s worth it if you are local.

Well marked trails. I hike ruffner three times a week and it’s my exercise and meditation and it’s a gem the city should be proud of. I laugh at some of the negative reviews: there were ticks. Umm yeah, it’s the woods. Our car got stuck. How is your bad driving the fault of the staff? The kids got lost easily. Why weren’t they supervised better? Y’all just go hike and take a deep breath. Ruffner is a good place for that

Beautiful area to hike! Trails are very well maintained and marked very well. The appetizers were my favorite. The humus and grilled wings to be exact. I've never had sweet potato humus before, but I really enjoyed the taste of it with the pita bread they use. The wings tasted like I was at a family reunion getting them straight off the grill. Their sweet potato fries were great as well. I did not like the shrimp and grits. They were too salty for my liking and there was no other flavor noticed because of the salty taste. I had only a second bite of it to try it again to see if I could bear it, but couldn't. I just gave what I ordered to someone else and ate the fries as the fries ended up being more than enough. About time our waitress noticed my plate not really being touched, and asking if I wanted something else, we were about to leave. I would visit again, just will stay clear of what I had.

The Pepper Place Saturday Market is a local farmers' market in Birmingham, Alabama that connects local family farmers with the city's residents. Freakin' outstanding! Produce was BEAUTIFUL! Breakfast choices were 'a plenty! (Nice to find a Bloody Mary!) Prices seemed fair enough...
I wish we were more local so we could have taken advantage of the delicious looking fruits & veggies!
As an aside - this place is 1000% better than an airport terminal for people watching. LOL!
When baseball brings us back to the area, we'll return to the market!

The vendors we have at Pepper Place on Saturdays are really nice this year. So far.
Last year we had a couple of vendors who didn't seem to know what customers were, but those vendors are not present so far.
Who knows, maybe they will come back and they will be changed. Hope so.
Honestly though, the best produce, trinkets, and other food items which look and smell wonderful!
I am a tad concerned there are less than half the vendors as last year. I am hoping they all come back when weather stays warm , and doesn't shock us with biting cold. Looking forward to being at the market every week like last year.
Come out and enjoy . You will definitely make some new friends!
A little hint.... If you want some strawberries, get there before 7 and line up. They will be gone by 730.

A must experience in Birmingham on a Saturday morning (7a-12p), in my opinion. They have the best variety of items, from farm fresh produce to delicious desserts. They have vegan and vegetarian options like mushrooms. The atmosphere is always positive and good. I recommend going early if you can because it gets crowded after 9, and vendors sell out of a lot of things later in the morning.

We bought a jar of homemade dill pickles from Silver Lane Farms and she gave us one her tomato plants which was insanely nice! Definitely coming back!

The produce selection on the farmers side is so GREAT! There are so many varieties of vegetables and fruit to choose from, and even a selection meats and eggs. The fresh flowers are always gorgeous and there are several flower booths.
There are several homemade treats stands. Pound cakes, bundt cakes, cheesecakes, pies, granola, dips, salsas, etc. Don't forget to try the samples! So much goodness!
