The Golden Gate Bridge Vista Point provides a spectacular outlook of the city, bay and the iconic bridge. This remarkable structure is a sight to behold, its red color adding an elegant modern touch to traditional bridges. Its sheer length may be overwhelming but driving on it is an unforgettable experience with picture-perfect views. The viewpoint offers limited parking spots at affordable rates along with restrooms and a visitor center in close proximity.
Visiting the Golden Gate Bridge Vista Point was an unforgettable experience, offering some of the most breathtaking views imaginable. This spot is unparalleled for capturing the majestic beauty of not just the Golden Gate Bridge, but also the Bay Bridge. The panoramic view encompasses the entirety of San Francisco, Berkeley, and Oakland, presenting a stunning urban tapestry.
One of the most striking aspects is the ability to see the intricate details of the surrounding areas. The small islands dotting the bay come to life from this vantage point, and the infamous Alcatraz Island stands out with a distinct presence, adding a historical touch to the view.
The serenity of this location is remarkable. It's a haven for both tourists and locals seeking a moment of tranquility amidst the beauty of nature and the grandeur of human engineering. The vista point serves as a perfect backdrop for photography enthusiasts, offering a canvas where the picturesque landscape meets the vibrant cityscape.

(2006). One of San Francisco’s amazing structure that is a sight to see and a memorable experience driving on the bridge. It’s red color provides a nice modern style to previous and current traditional bridges. It’s massive length is overwhelming, but the experience is unforgettable. When driving on the bridge, its a thrilling experience and the views are picture perfect.

The golden gate bridge is the most photographed bridge in the world. It also holds the distinct rank for being the most videoed bridge on the planet, shown on the highest number of hollywood movies. Its over a mile long suspension bridge built back in 1937, connecting the San Francisco Bay with the Pacific Ocean. We visited the vista point adjacent to the bridge back in winter of 2018 and absolutely loved the views from here. Here are some pictures I took of this enigmatic bridge.

Great viewpoint for the bridge. It has a very small car park which is cheap to use. Toilet facilities and a visitor centre close by. We would recommend parking beside the visit centre to stop any smash and grab robberies in the other close by car parks.

Took the hop on hop off bus. Great to travel across the bridge to Vista Point.
TIPS:
- Very crowded with tourists, so be prepared to spend some time getting the best vantage point.
- Check the weather as it can get foggy and is quite cool up there.
- Try to go early or late if you want good photos. I went on a beautiful day, but the sun was already too high to get the photos I wanted.
- The toilets are quite dirty due to the amount of tourists using them. Be prepared. 😜
RECOMMEND??
Yes!
- Enjoy! It’s a great spot to stop.

Very awe inspiring. The vast ocean and bay on opposite sides of the bridge. The mammoth man made structure. Give yourself plenty of time to absorb the scenes. Pictures can't fully capture the grandeur.
Battery Spencer is a 19th-century concrete battery with stunning panoramic views of Golden Gate and San Francisco. The observation deck provides the best spot to view the iconic golden bridge, even on cloudy days. Access to this location is easy by means of driving or biking, followed by a short walk to the top. As it sits almost 500 feet above the bay, it was once an ideal location for large coastal defense guns during its time under army control.
If you wanna take a picture (or more!) with one of the best angles of the Golden Gate Bridge then this is the place for you! I certainly feel like this is best spot to do it as the entire span of the bridge is visible. It can be easily accessible with a car as there are parking areas all around or if you don’t have a car, you can walk from the H. Dana Bowers Rest area/Vista Point on the other side, go underneath the bridge through the little walkway and hike it up to this viewpoint. Believe me, the view’s priceless!

First time came to the observation deck, I think it is best spot to view the golden bridge, even was cloudy day we still able to get quiet a few very good shots of bridge, I can’t imagine how great views would be in sunny days. It’s very easy-accessible, you can drive and bike to there with short walk to the top, very windy at the top, bright a jacket and watch your hat is great idea. At almost 500 feet above the bay, this high cliff-top vantage point was a prime location for big coastal defense guns when the army was there.

I think this is one of the best spots to view the Golden Gate bridge. Amazing view of the bridge, Alcatraz island etc. Do make sure to check the weather before visiting. If it's sunny or clear, you are in for a treat. If you are going on a weekend, finding a parking spot can be an issue, but is manageable.

Battery Spencer provides one of the most stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the city skyline. Perched atop the Marin Headlands, this vantage point provides an awe-inspiring perspective that will take your breath away. Whether you visit during the day or at sunset, the panoramic vistas are simply breathtaking. It's the perfect spot to capture memorable photos or simply soak in the beauty of San Francisco. A must-visit destination for anyone seeking a mesmerizing view of the iconic Golden Gate Bridge.

I came during the day and walk across the Golden Gate Bridge and then walked up the hill for this view, the one way walk is about an hour long.
Even during the day the view of the Golden Gate Bridge from this close up and near eye level with the tower is very impressive. I wish I was here at sunset and stay until it was nighttime then I can see it light up and see San Francisco all lights up at night. Next time I will drive here and stay for a while.

The most romantic spot out side of the city to get a photo. Bit of a walk and parking can be annoying but it's worth the walk for a date night photo a proposal a family photo even sweet 16 photos and prom.
I recommend you take a few at sunset as the views of the golden gate city are to die for.

Probably one of my favorite views of the Golden Gate Bridge! You can see the bridge up close in all its glory with the beautiful city of San Francisco in the background. The area is also an old abandoned military base, and you can see some of the old barracks as well. It’s a gorgeous view at all times of the day, but is particularly pretty right before sunset.

I've visited Battery Spencer in Golden Gate several times, and each visit leaves me in awe of the outstanding views it offers. The panoramic view of the Golden Gate Bridge is simply breathtaking. Although there's a short hike involved, it's entirely worth it, and the trail is manageable for all. Surprisingly, even with a good number of visitors, it never feels crowded, allowing for a peaceful experience.
Parking can be a bit limited up front, but there are ample street-side parking spaces available. It's essential to be cautious and avoid leaving valuables in your car, as break-ins are unfortunately common in tourist areas like these.
For those who enjoy hiking or biking, the road leading up to Battery Spencer is a popular route. It adds an extra layer of adventure to the experience and provides an opportunity to explore the natural beauty surrounding this iconic spot.
With that being said Battery Spencer is a must-visit destination for anyone in San Francisco area looking for one of the best views of Golden gate bridge.

Standing at Battery Spencer, you're greeted with a view that is truly unparalleled, where the grandeur of the Golden Gate Bridge meets the vast, untamed beauty of the Pacific Ocean. This historic military site, once intended for coastal defense, now serves as one of the most stunning viewpoints in San Francisco. The panoramic scenes from here are not just views; they're a spectacle of engineering marvel set against the natural beauty of California's coastline.
As you gaze out from this elevated perch, the Golden Gate Bridge stretches below, a testament to human ingenuity, framed by the rugged headlands on one side and the city's skyline on the other. The sight of the bridge, whether shrouded in the city's famous fog or gleaming under the golden sun, is truly mesmerizing, offering a different experience with each visit.
Battery Spencer provides not only a breathtaking viewpoint but also a moment of reflection on the history and natural beauty that define this iconic region. It's a place where photographers, tourists, and locals alike gather to capture the essence of San Francisco, making it a must-visit for anyone looking to experience the heart and soul of the city. The combination of historical significance, natural beauty, and awe-inspiring views makes Battery Spencer an unforgettable destination.

TLDR: come for the sunrise and you won’t be disappointed!
Even if Karl the Fog is lurking, most of the time coming here will get you above the fog and to see the sunrise. There is sufficient parking in front as well as nearby so feel free to park closer. There’s plenty of space for many people to enjoy the sunrise, go catch the views of the SF skyline and the Golden Gate Bridge as well!

I visited Battery Spencer in San Francisco yesterday and it was a breathtaking experience. The battery is a historic military site that offers stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the city skyline. It is located on a hilltop along Conzelman Road, which is a scenic drive with many overlooks and photo spots.
The battery itself is a fascinating place to explore, as it has several old buildings and structures that date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s. You can see the remains of the gun emplacements, the ammunition storage, and the generators that powered the battery. There are also some informational signs that explain the history and significance of the battery in the defense of the San Francisco Bay.
One of the most interesting features of the battery is the locks on the top, which are padlocks that people have attached to the fence as a symbol of their love or friendship. There are hundreds of locks of different shapes, sizes, and colors, each with a unique message or name. It is a fun and romantic gesture that adds a touch of whimsy to the place.
But the main attraction of the battery is, of course, the view of the Golden Gate Bridge. It is one of the best viewpoints for the iconic bridge, as you can see it from a close distance and a high angle. You can also see the bay, the city, and the hills in the background. The view is especially beautiful at sunset, when the bridge and the sky are illuminated by warm colors. It is a sight that you will never forget.
Battery Spencer is a must-see for anyone who loves history, nature, and photography. It is a place where you can enjoy the mesmerizing views, learn about the past, and make some memories. It is a place where you can feel the magic of San Francisco.

Viña del Mar Park is a triangular green space that boasts lovely benches and grassy areas for visitors to relax in. It is famous for its magnificent elephant statues and fountain, which are some of the park's most popular attractions. The park also has several shops, restaurants, and cool parks nearby where one can spend quality time with family or friends. For those who love fishing, there are opportunities to do so as well.
This place is simply amazing full of beautiful scenery lots of shops and restaurants, cool parks to enjoy your day with a family or friends, grab a fishing rod and you can fish as well. If you would like to sit in the park on the grass they have social distancing circles spray painted on the grass.

The non-profit facility, The Marine Mammal Center, provides care and rehabilitation for various types of marine mammals. Volunteers in the 1980s were required to step into disinfectant trays before entering the room where food was prepared for orphaned and injured baby seals. One notable success story is Spike who returned to the center after being released into the wild. The organization has a proven track record of rehabilitating thousands of marine mammals and releasing them back into their natural habitats.
Back in the 1980s I worked here as a volunteer. We all took great care to step into trays of disinfectant to wash any germs from our shoes before entering the room where I prepared food for orphaned and injured baby seals. My favorite pup was “Spike” who made the SF news after his release by finding his way back to the Marine Center. He must have missed the cream and anchovies I had made for him in a blender!! This amazing organization has a history of successfully rehabilitating and releasing thousands of marine mammals ❤️

Our group of students were lucky to visit the marine mammal center and we were hosted by the education coordinator Crystal who has the most radiant energy and passion for her work. The team emphasizes that the center is a hospital first and would prioritize healing the animals over tours. Throughout the tour we were able to learn about the rescue and healing process of the different marine mammals that came to their facility which became a big inspiration to the students. The organization is well prepared for fun interactive activities to help with experiential learning and I also appreciated that the team emphasized on not allowing the animals to associate humans to food or care so they could be self reliant in the wild.

We registered online in advance groups up to 10 per party. Our reservation window was 10am to 1pm and we were running late so I called and they were very happy to accommodate us. The times are just a window to visit the location. We were able to learn a lot about the marine mammals that come to our little section of the coast. It's suggested that you go online and make a reservation. IT'S FREE, go check it out.

Very cute spot to come on a date, by yourself or bring your kids!
This place is hidden in the mountains of Marin county but it’s a must stop if you are an animal lover. You can make reservations online or through eventbrite at least 24hrs before your visit. However my friend and I didn’t get tickets and we just showed up with no problem. I recommend you calling to ask if there is space for you to join since some days is pretty packed.
The mammal center itself was very cool, with a lot of information about the animals in the facility and information on how to contribute to the cause and be mindful of our environmental footprint.
This place is volunteer run so you can also become a volunteer or ask questions about what’s going on.
Some things to keep in mind:
You probably won’t get very close to the animals. This is because they are either sick or wounded so they need silence and very little interaction.
If you get lucky you might see volunteers feeding them, cleaning their cage or transporting the animals but this is not a zoo like experience.
In some areas they might be operating or examining dead animals so discretion is advised.
The place is kinda small so it probably would take you around 1 hr to see it all
Either way it’s a really fun place to learn about animals in the Bay Area and understand them.

"I learned all about rescuing seals and sea lions here! We went on a Guided Tour and learned all about what they do at the center. We even got to witness a tube feeding of the Northern Elephant Seal pups! It was just amazing to see all of those rescued animals for free and know how much effort The Marine Mammal Center was putting in to rescue, rehabilitate and release them."

It’s NOT a zoo. It’s a marine mammal hospital with lots of volunteers and they offer education on the animals they care for. Some reviewers are disappointed not to see animals up close. These people didn’t get the message. Call 415-289-SEAL (7325) if you see an ocean creature in distress. Volunteers from the center will come to the rescue.

The Marine Mammal Center is the country’s largest marine mammal hospital. Absolutely worth the visit and the tour if you’re interested in hearing about the important work they do to support our natural environment and help mitigate the pretty idiotic things we humans do to the detriment of wildlife. Great destination for a hike through the headlands. Went out on Monday to visit the little marine mammals on the mend.
Great little visitors center with extremely friendly staff. The gal at the door was so happy to explain the center and features within.
Inside there are a couple rooms with informative displays and interactive objects like seal pelts. Also some skeletons of seals that are really interesting! You can really see how they are mammals with their little front and back paws!
In the viewing area was this nice young vonunteer named Allison! She was super sweet and excited to tell me all about the seals, seal lions and otters in their care.
Great spot for kids! For adults it's interesting for sure. I'm an avid hiker and grew up on the coast of Oregon and Alaska so seals are nothing new for me. That being said I'm glad I went to check it out, 100% recommend:)

The Bay Area Discovery Museum is an indoor/outdoor museum designed to encourage children's creativity through interactive exhibits, art classes, and a play space. The museum offers sections for both older kids and babies, with nature and STEM-based structures and exhibits that are well thought out. Parents appreciated the clean environment of the tot section where they could leave their babies to explore. In addition to all the fun activities for kids, visitors can also enjoy a gorgeous view of Golden Gate right next to the museum.
It is a nice play for you to take your kids and have a good time with them.
You can discover how things work, go through puzzles, iceless skating, climb a ship, develop a masterpiece at the art studio, just go for a walk and even play with some musical instruments... Whatever your kid's imagination feels like, this is the place.

One of the best children’s museums in the country. This place is so well done. A perfect mix of tons of activities and things to play with, explore, and do. I had to drag my 3 & 7 year old out after 5 hours but they easily could have stayed all day.
I appreciated the mix of indoor and outdoor spaces, along with how they’re broken into different categories. My daughter loved the art building and making cardboard creations. My son loved the unique outdoor playground spaces.

The older kids sections are well thought out and my daughter loved it. The art studio had cool activities too. The tot section was very clean which made me comfortable to leave my baby girl to explore. We would be back again for sure.

Visited the Bay Area Discovery Museum recently with my three boys, and we easily spent an entire day exploring. The kids had a blast, but I'd say the experience is more geared towards younger children. Even my 9-year-old found enjoyment through hands-on activities and the open play area. While it's definitely worth a one-time visit, I must say the fees seem a bit high for what's offered, and there might not be enough to keep kids engaged for repeat visits.
The membership, priced at $209, doesn't seem worth it considering the limited appeal for return trips. On a positive note, there are ample seating areas for parents and caregivers to relax, as well as covered spots for lunch breaks. Some interactive exhibits were unfortunately out of order during our visit, impacting the overall experience. In comparison, I feel the Exploratorium caters better to older kids.
In conclusion, the Bay Area Discovery Museum is worth checking out, especially for younger kids, but the value for money is questionable. The good news is that parking is free, a rare perk in the pricey SF Area.

Our two year old son had so much fun. There are so many big and little activities that entertain the kids. He loved the bubbles, spinning structure, climbing structure, building blocks, iceless skating, how it works room (with a slide), a ship, a bell, frog sculptures, construction zone, art area, and so much more. Some areas we think he'll engage with even more as he gets older.
The staff are all so kind, patient, and helpful. The gift shop is small but has great toys and activity sets at market prices or less. The membership is totally worth it!
Although there are many indoor activities, I do find that it's best to go on a non rainy day so that you can take advantage of their outdoor activities.
Can get crowded (including waiting in line) but still worth it, and does not feel as such once inside.

We’ve been members for a few years, and it’s well-worth the affordable membership. Since we live on the north side of SF, it’s just a quick drive across the GG Bridge for us, which means it’s an every weekend option to keep the kids busy for a few hours. There’s a great mix of indoor & outdoor spaces, and my twins (5 yo) and daughter (2.5 yo) are all able to find activities to stimulate both their brains and their bodies. The only knock I have is on their limited food options, but we mostly just end up bringing our own food. Also, the parking lot fills up early, so be prepared to walk a little if you’re not here early on weekends; I’d suggest arriving no later than 10am or coming after 11am to pick off a spot opening up from early departures.

The Discovery Museum is on the former military post of Fort Baker. It’s for young children and there are lots of activities for them. What’s particularly nice is the views you can enjoy and the walks you can take.

Awesome experience for little ones. Well run and maintained facilities, fun areas, good age range of stuff to do.

This place was a delight. 100% recommend. Price was $100 for 5 which was a bit steep, be nice if they had some sort of discount. Great way for kids to play. So many activities to enjoy. I’d say this place isn’t really for kids over 10yo.
The Bay Model Visitor Center is a 1.5-acre model of the San Francisco Bay that showcases the rise and fall of tides. It is open for tours and features educational exhibits about Bay hydrology. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers previously used it for scientific research, but now it operates as a working hydraulic scale model to educate visitors on the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta System.
Fascinating to see this enormous physical model of the Bays. The first model was built in 1954, then extended, and was in use until 2000, when computer modelling took over. Friendly staff, donation on entry.

If you imagine that you were in a tiny boat, you could be here all day!
Ton T — Google review
There is a huge amount of information presented both on the Bay Model itself and on the the Bay watershed at large, plus the history of the Marinship from WW2. If you're like me and what to try to absorb every bit of information presented allow 3-4 hours.
It was unfortunate the model wasn't fully functioning when I was there but I'd like to visit again when it is just to see it doing its thing (and to catch a few things I ended up skipping due to time or that weren't functioning). The building and exhibits also are showing their age and would really benefit from a refresh. Most didn't detract from the exhibits but there were a few video setups that were offline.
The nature of the information means it probably isn't for real small kids, but if you have a passing interest in the Bay, hydraulics and hydrology, or infrastructure/engineering you'd likely find it fascinating.
Gavin Finley — Google review
Very cool museum. Unfortunately when we went they were doing repair work and we're not running the model, but it was still really cool to see the model. The museum also has a nice video and lots of displays explaining some of the history of the model. Definitely would recommend checking it out if you're into history and/or engineering museums.

Amazing place to visit and marvel at the engineering effort that went into it! A great destination if you're doing the golden gate bridge cycle.

Unexpected great find - I had no idea this existed. Very interesting, huge scale and well-explained. I only dropped in for 15 minutes but I could have spent an hour or more there. Worth a visit.

Fascinating history. This huge working Model of the San Francisco Bay operated for decades until replaced by computer models. There's also a great little museum on this site which originally built ships for WWII, including many female workers. This center is free to visit, right on the Bay with a pretty native garden out front and a small gift shop. There was an art show there when we visited. Bring a picnic lunch.
Jacqueline Bogard — Google review
A fun free activity in the Bay area. It is a huge physical model of the bay. Unfortunately we didn't have a ton of time to read through all the information - you could literally spend all day here! It is an engineers dream and is pretty cool even if you aren't necessarily engineering minded.

I have lived in the Bay area since 1984 and never realized that this exhibit existed. It's a marvelous representation of the entire Northern California wetlands ecosystem. It warrants your presence to experience! Absolutely inspiring as well as educational. Kudos to the pleasant and professional staff, especially Linda our tour guide!

Really cool to see this massive model of the bay. I learned a lot about water flow and management. This is fun for kids to walk around. Lots of interactive displays.
bartellj — Google review
Pretty amazing place for what it is. It's free and there is free parking. It's incredible how large this is and great that they also talk about different aspects of maintaining the bay and the model. It's more for adults than kids I would say, and more engineering and sciency than most adults may appreciate. They do a good job of recycling the guided tour books too. Bravo! TIP: You get a good view of the bay and it's not far to downtown Sausalito so it could be worth a short stop.
Cory Sakai — Google review
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this place. I was the first one through the door in the morning and luckily the museum director happened to walking through and greeted me, I asked a rather in depth question and got the most knowledgeable and in depth. Which lead to more questions, director gave me at least 30 minutes of their time. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Bay Model is a working hydraulic scale model of the San Francisco Bay and Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta System. While the Bay Model is still operational, it is no longer used for scientific research but is instead open to the public alongside educational exhibits about Bay hydrology.

This is a good gem I wasn't expecting. I came here for a private after hour event. After checking out some of the lobby information table, I went into the visitors center. There's a lot of information of building ships during the second world war. Then past this, you want into a map of the Bay area water ways. It's very different as the water ways is the focus point and not the land masses. I'll definitely comeback for another visit.

Great place to take anyone young or old. So interesting to see how big the bay really is. Note that the water is not in the model now. Will be again in the summer.

Suggestion for other visitors: park along Gate 5 Road. Walk towards the water front. Take note of the signs about private property. There are legit public walking routes you can take. Just follow the signs.
Then take in the wonderful sights.

I love this place... the colorful houses, the relaxed vibe, the artwork and personal knick-knacks that the owners had placed to make each of their properties their own... and the smell of the salt air. Certainly, a favorite spot in the Bay area, one that I am so happy I discovered.

We walked 40mins each way from the ferry pier. Worth it. Such a tranquil and charming place, with several docks to wander down and the occasional resident pottering next door to look for a neighbor. Each home has tons of charm and personality. I recommend reading up on the colorful history before you go, folks like Stewart Brand (Long Now Foundation, Whole Earth Catalog) and Shel Silverstein once called it home. We saw the famous Owl and many other lovely abodes. Be respectful when approaching for photos.

Worth spending a half hour strolling quietly through the boardwalks. Each house is unique and its "front yard" (dock frontage) is decorated in colorful potted plants and other artwork. Because people actually live in these there are restrictions on times, dogs, etc but it's still worth seeing. Come, take some pictures, then head in to town for a nice meal.

Fort Cronkhite is a former military base from World War II that has preserved barracks, mess halls, and artifacts. It is located just before the Golden Gate Bridge's north exit and offers free admission. The site provides panoramic views of the city, ocean, and Golden Gate. Visitors can enjoy hiking, exploring, swimming, surfing and learning more about history at this historical site.
Always a great beach to clear your mind, feed the soul...sometimes there are too many people there, but if you head down towards the hills beyond the main beach ⛱ it's pretty relaxing!

Fort Cronkhite is always refreshing, it's at the last exit before crossing the Golden Gate Bridge from the north, which is $12.00. After waiting for 5 minutes for the signal light to change on the one way tunnel, which isn't bad the admission is perfect, free. The view of the Golden Gate and the city and ocean is priceless.

Popular surfing and hiking spot - but really there’s lots of parking and no effort to find a view spot - public bathroom but very little in regards to trees - so sunblock is advised - hiking from easy to lengthy w elevation (hilly)
Access to Bonita lighthouse is limited by ranger based on their headcount - and the lighthouse access gets shut down at sun down (posted 3pm ish but that’s loose 😶)

TLDR: Great beach on the way to Mammal center further up the hill with a peek at the Golden Gate Bridge as you exit Robin Williams tunnel.
Stopped by the beach on the way back from the Marine Mammal Center on a Sunday afternoon. Found a good parking spot in short order and found a good spot after a short walk across the estuary Bridge. Sand here is nice but rough in some areas with bigger pebbles. It wasn't overcrowded and the kids were able to body surf and dig sand castles, but the water was too cold for us grownups to follow. Overall a great beach and we didn't even check out the barracks or hiking nearby.

Super nostalgic place! Lots of old army barracks, and other types of Army headquarters that date back to World War II. The buildings there are very old. They're not very well-maintained, but I think that adds to the nostalgic feel of the place.

Sausalito Wooden Boat Tour's dream come true. Building a wooden tall ship next door to me. Wow.

$5 tour was worth it! You get to go on the ship with a docent (guide) who will answer questions about the ship. It's made of good quality wood. They also have a mechanical advantage lesson where you compare the same weights on more or less pulleys. The more pulleys, the lighter the bag seems!

Marin Headlands is a coastal area with a 5-mile stretch of basalt headland that provides habitat for various wildlife species such as bobcats, coyotes, deer, and birds. Visitors can take an 8km circuit around the whole headland in Peniche, which includes a lighthouse at Cabo Carvoeiro that offers breathtaking views of rock stacks and the Berlenga islands.
Beautiful hike through nature with a nice beach in between. There's plenty of parking on either side of the trails and we were lucky enough to see several different types of birds. The hikes have a moderate amount of incline to them, but there wasn't anything crazy.

The city of San Francisco is incredibly lucky to have the Marin Headlands nearby. Incredible views, a quiet and remote oasis away from the city.
It’s annoying to cross the bridge, but this is the best place to bike around SF - much better than going south. You’d never guess you’re 10 miles from SF. Plus, the history and artifacts are really interesting - leading to any number of pit stops.

What a beautiful place to enjoy the outdoors so close to the city. Some great trailruns taking place here around the year. Just make sure to bring some good trail shoes, can get quite muddy on rainy days!

Beautiful views for the first bit of the morning the misty fog was so dense that I couldn't see the water, but I could hear the ships horns off in the distance so magical. So wildlife which I always enjoy and saw banana slugs for the first time in real life I was shocked at first. I was like what the hell is that, apparently you can find them in Alaska too. Let's just say Santa Cruz university lied about how cute they look. Although once the initial shock goes they are cute in their own right.

The Marin Headlands, perched at the edge of California's coastline, offer a majestic overlook onto the Pacific Ocean's boundless waters. From this elevated perspective, the rugged cliffs and rolling hills, cloaked in a tapestry of coastal shrubbery and wildflowers, cascade gracefully towards the ocean. The vast, blue expanse stretches out infinitely, its surface shimmering under the golden light of the sun. Waves crash against the rocky shore below, creating a symphony of natural sounds that complements the tranquil and serene beauty of the landscape. This view encapsulates the raw, untamed essence of the Northern California coast, inviting onlookers into a moment of reflection and connection with the natural world.

This is a great place to take photos of the Golden Gate Bridge and of the Ocean. You can even see Alcatraz Island from here. It’s a short drive about 20 minutes. The traffic on the weekend is pretty heavy so take that into account when you’re planning your trip. Afterwards you can drive across the Golden Gate Bridge for more photo opportunities. Got some great panoramas of the Golden Gate Bridge here.

Believe it or not, this is a national park. Could say it's a hidden gem as it's kinda hard to get to because of the location. I visit this spot each time I come to San Francisco as it's nice and relaxing spot. The light house was fun to explore with the kids. Opening to the light house opens after 10:30 am Mon-Fri and not certain about the weekends. If you don't feel like visiting the lighthouse, the park also has access to the beach if you drive further down the road which I personally have not gone to, but could see from a distance. Park has areas for picnics as well as other hidden historical gems. Great place for views of the Golden gate Bridge and photos.

This place has been a staple on my trips into the City from Sonoma County forever! I'm in NY now, and on my last visit (last month) it's no longer a 2 lane road around the headlands. Make a right when exiting the freeway (SB) and follow around thru the one way tunnel and up and over. I wasn't a fan at first, but ya know, I appreciate it now! Such a beautiful look at the area up close! They should have done this change YEARS ago!

Marin Headlands is a breathtaking destination that captivated me and my family during our recent visit. Located just across the Golden Gate Bridge, the view of the iconic bridge from this vantage point was nothing short of awe-inspiring. The sight of the majestic bridge against the backdrop of the San Francisco skyline left us all in sheer wonder.
One of the highlights of our trip was the stunning lighthouse that graces the headlands. Its charm was simply irresistible, and the picturesque setting added a touch of nostalgia to the whole experience. The lighthouse served as a beautiful reminder of the area's rich maritime history.
What made our visit even more enjoyable was the kindness and knowledge of the park ranger who guided us through the light station. Their passion for the history and significance of the lighthouse was evident, and they shared fascinating stories about its past, leaving us with a deeper appreciation for this historical gem.
As a family with kids, we found Marin Headlands to be a perfect destination. The children were in awe of the panoramic views and were eager to learn about the Golden Gate Bridge and the lighthouse. The park offered a safe and inviting environment for them to explore and enjoy nature.
Overall, our trip to Marin Headlands was a memorable and enriching experience. The combination of the spectacular view of the Golden Gate Bridge, the beauty of the lighthouse, and the kindness and knowledge of the park ranger made this visit truly unforgettable. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply seeking a picturesque spot to create lasting memories with your family, Marin Headlands should definitely be on your list of must-visit places.

Beautiful area for hiking and jogging. Me and my friends hiked along the Rodeo Beach trail a few days ago. Even in the winter this area is often clear and sunny, and offers stunning views of the ocean and San Francisco skyline. On a good day one can experience cloud inversions (though we didn't get lucky last time). The trails around the area are pretty wide and well-maintained. The area can get pretty crowded, which can be both, a pro and a con. Multiple remnants of abandoned Cold War-era military facilities are scattered throughout the area, such as positions of coastal artillery batteries (Townsley Battery site is about 85 years old, it can be recognized from afar by a huge barrel of an old artillery gun located next to it).

This beach is located in Sausalito, CA and is a secret beach with unique black sand. The water is clean and the sand is very soft. The hike to get to the beach can be challenging, but it's well worth it for the beautiful views and peaceful atmosphere at Black Sands Beach.

Highly recommend. The trail down is manicured and clear. The hike down is pleasant, the hike up not so much. It is definitely a steep hike up, but worth it. The sand is very coarse and a cool colors. Put this on your itinerary if you're in the area.

Beautiful beach, kinda' empty even on a warm weekend (which has its pros and cons). Rocky. The sand is actually made of tiny pebbles that can be uncomfortable (bring a beach towel!) and can get super hot (like asfalt!) when it's sunny.

It's a beautiful beach. The hike is short but steep. Can be a challenge if carrying a lot back up from the beach.
David Chavez — Google review
We loved this beach! It was so beautiful and not crowded. There were only a few other people on the beach besides us. The sand is not actually black but it looks black when it's wet because it's a dark color already. It's .2 miles down to the beach and coming back up to the car is ROUGH with all of the steps! But I def recommend it! It's so beautiful! I am only 4'11" and it was a bit difficult with some of the steps but my husband did help me get down/up when the steps were too steep. There is a vault toilet in the parking and someone was thoughtful and put an air freshener. There are not a lot of parking spaces but I saw people parking on the side of the road. This beach is beautiful and should not be missed!

Drive out from the East Bay/Martinez was rough, lots of traffic crossing the Richmond bridge 1.5 hours from home.
Parking was limited although parking along the mountain was safe and ample.
At first the weather was awful 90s in Martinez to 63 at the beach, that all changed once we walked down. Once the fig lifted it was amazing.
Absolutely beautiful black sands beach... More than enough space to eat lunch and walk the beach. People were extra friendly and there were mostly families and couples. Saw one nude guy but he was modest and kept to himself n yes it was to the far left of the stairs...
Found some rocks and shells and caught some sun (got burnt tbh) despite it being cold at first. The walk up was a bit challenging on way back to the vehicle, yet there were nonstop breath taking views. The road is one way in and one way out, most of the way. There is a beach called Rodeo Beach as well which you will not miss once you leave Black Sands, the one way road assures that it can't be missed, not as personal and intimate of a location as Black Sands Beach and Rodeo Beach was very crowded. Although the benefit of Rodeo Beach is, there's not a hike in and out. We will definitely give Rodeo Beach a shot next time in the area.
Overall it was a spiritual Saturday and well worth the drive and hike. Recommend Black Sands Beach for all and everyone, only tip would be pack light. Prepare for the beautiful California coast unfortunately the videos and pictures do not do the location justice. Gotta be there to truly admire the beauty.

Black Sands Beach is a unique location to get to and from. It’s a beautiful location that is very enjoyable. The sand itself is more of refined/grounded up rock. It’s a bit hard to walk on and if you walk while a wave comes it the sand will wash from underneath your feet. Under the sun is very hot so make sure to wear water shoes or sandals.

The curator, Lauren, offered to do a FaceTime with me so I could see some of the works live. I live over 12 hours away so it's not possible for me to visit this amazing new collection. She was so sweet to work with and showed me these beautiful pieces. Dry Dock was my absolute favorite! The variety of themes and scale were so impressive. The colors are absolutely stunning! Daniel's work is some of the most exquisite art I've ever seen. I love it so much! So magical and intriguing! I'm very grateful for my personalized gallery tour via technology today! I've been to this gallery in person as well and find it very charming. If you are ever in Sausalito, I highly recommend a visit!

Extremely arrogant and rude woman who worked here! She was not in the gallery when we came in and she ignored us when we greeted her and yelled at me for taking a mask that was on the table for guests to use. As i politely mentioned to her, i wanted to double mask for my safety and others but she continued being disrespectful so we left because it was embarrassing. What a shame since the art is beautiful but its hard to appreciate when someone so ill mannered is working there.... Never visiting again and would not recommend to anyone i know.

Love the imaginative and jewel-toned paintings of Daniel Merriam!
I found this gem just before leaving Sausalito and couldn’t leave without at least purchasing an art book. The originals and prints are all very reasonably priced.
I’m surprised by the low ratings and comments about the gallery curator. Lauren was nothing but gracious and helpful; we had a nice conversation about the artist’s process and art in general. Perhaps it was a different woman from before. Anyway, this is definitely worth a stop regardless. Even if you are on a budget there are some lovely gift items for sale.

I came from Tacoma, WA, to see Daniel's new show! I am so glad I did! The place is beautiful, his work is stunning! His wife is so kind and lovely, and I really appreciated Elena, the art consultant for listening to me and helping me with my purchase of a new print! Would come again if I ever get the opportunity!

Amazing art however owner was incredibly rude and arrogant to guests. I liked an art piece of hers, so as any passionate person would I took my phone out to snap a photo (not knowing or seeing anything wrong with it) and instead of addressing me directly and privately in an understanding manner, she publicly shamed me for not paying attention to her 2 inch sign at the back that says no photography. I apologized and felt so horrible, it was an honest mistake and I don’t go to galleries often. She then spoke rudely of me to other guests quite loudly while I was still in the building. Again, cool art, but the gallery agent simply isn’t worth it. My friend that I went with also mentioned she had a negative encounter with the same woman a few months prior. It’s a shame such a rude person is working at a gallery showcasing such beautiful art. She’s really costing the business.

Great art honestly. Very unique and the pieces seem to transmit a mood or emotion is the best way I could explain it. I actually started looking online about a purchase because I just refuse to walk in that store agin with that woman working there. Very insulting, she didn't even really allow me and my gf to browse. Seemed almost to be directing us to what she wanted us to buy while taking little digs at us while I struggled to find casual conversation. Left in a hurry. Side note she was arguing with 2 women who were on their way out as we were walked in lol. This lady must have dirt on the owner or be a relative or something because if the business was interested purely in sales, she'd have been out of there a long time ago.

I went here and fell in love with the art. I was trying to decide between two pieces, but the woman curating the gallery was so offensive and rude we left. She kept grabbing my sweater and touching my person. She accosted me and told me if I was so willing to spend money on clothes and purses that I surely must have ruined my priorities somewhere down the line if I planned on leaving the gallery without art. I told her we would get her if we had any questions, we were trying to admire the art and make a very expensive decision. But she would not leave us alone, and then started berating me for my designer purse. "Are you going to put that in a frame on your wall? What are your morals if you're going to spend on that and not on art." She was overly aggressive, assertive, and off putting. I finally told her the purse was my late mothers, who's now passed away. And I would appreciate her backing off. We left. After reading the comments and other reviews for this gallery, it seems as though this has been an on going and expensive liability for the gallery. Shame, because I know it cost them a few thousand dollars today alone.

I had a similar experience to Raj who posted about a year ago. I went into the gallery today and the woman there pretty much told me the art there was too expensive for me. I thought I misunderstood her at first... How this started was I asked her for the gallery's business card and then she said "you do know this work starts at $1,000, you won't be finding anything cheaper than that." I was a confused what that had to do with anything and she hesitated and said "where do you live?" I told her San Francisco and she goes "oh okay, here's a card." Then she asked me if I was also an artist, I said yes I was, then she turned to an older couple standing near us who had called in to come see the gallery and had an appointment with her and she said "yes, you'd think other artists understand the value of a good art work but surprisingly that doesn't always happen" and then turned back to me to continue the conversation. I hadn't said anything to this lady other than the artist had incredible vision. I just don't understand why she had to act that way... My husband and I were genuinely interested in the work, and not the $1,000 dollar prints she pretty much said we couldn't afford, but one of the originals hanging in the gallery, for the new house we just bought in San Francisco. I sincerely hope that Daniel realizes who he is staffing and sees how they are driving business away.

This used to be my happy place when I was in California. Whenever I would go to Sausalito I would go to this park. I have a lot of memories of this beautiful place. The walk from Equator coffee to the waterfront is the best!

Great little park near the water. In the early AM this is an unofficial dog park where doggies can meet and greet. During the Summer, there is the Friday nights "Jazz by the Bay" free concerts, that are wonderful. Get your dinner from one of the food stands, or bring your own!
