Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park is a well-maintained historic site that offers visitors the opportunity to explore U.S Civil War battlefields, trails, and buildings. The park includes a cemetery and hosts living history events to educate visitors about significant locations of the battle. With informative signage around the facilities, navigating through this national park is made easy for visitors unfamiliar with Fredericksburg. Additionally, knowledgeable ranger staff are available to provide assistance and information to those who need it.
Excellent place to walk and get a little history education.

This is specifically for the visitor's center and Sunken Rd self guided tour at the Fredericksburg Battlefield.
The visitor's center is very nice. The exhibits have been kept up to date and are legible. There is a lot of great information, too.
The self guided trail is nice and easy going. We had a great time!

This place is a must see. You can stop by the gift shop and get the information on a guided tour via your phone. The house that is still standing on this battlefield still has bullet holes in it you can see on the outside and inside thru the windows. General Cobb was killed in this battle, the spot is marked with a stone.

Main center for most information on Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania battlefields. Visitors Center, located at site of Sunken Road/Stone Wall, has small museum with well-done short movie on Fredericksburg battle. National Cemetery sits atop adjacent Marye's Heights.

A lot of history, it's hard to believe that so many died here. A nice visitor center with movie presentations, you can take a self or ranger lead tour of the grands. The gift shop offers souvenirs and National Park passport stamps.

The grounds are definitely worth the walk. We live close by so I frequent here and love seeing the sunrise over the cemetery on Mary's Hill.

Visitor Center is always well stocked and have wonderful staff. No snack area but they sell bottled water. Restrooms are clean. The Innes house is interesting. It was not open today but I have been through it in the past. With the amount of damage from the battle is amazing it still stands and is in good shape.

Wonderful park full of history! My family and I enjoyed the walking trail throughout, although unfortunately were there when the Visitor Center was still under construction. Luckily, the table set up outside and the signs around the park were more than enough to make up for it. Great for a quick day trip!

Long, paved road through the whole battlefield park. Seating area, replica cannons at Spotsylvania end. Multiple trails through the woods, beautiful walking in all seasons. Been coming here for a long time and we just love it!

The physical facility is well maintained and the staff very friendly and helpful. A 600yd walking tour includes a number of significant locations of the battle. Very convenient. The signage around the facility is extremely helpful to a visitor unfamiliar with Fredericksburg. But the Ranger staff are the real gems here.
Chatham Manor, a plantation built in 1771 on Stafford Heights, is a historic site that served as a Union Headquarters and Hospital during the Civil War. It was also the site of a slave rebellion. The house has hosted notable guests such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Walt Whitman and Clara Barton. Today it is part of Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania County Battlefield Memorial National Military Park where knowledgeable personnel are available to assist visitors.
Shared this adventure with my teenage daughter. It was amazing! The gardens were in bloom, and the view over Fredericksburg was spectacular!

I'm excited to come back in the spring when the gardens are in bloom.
What an exquisite view of Fredericksburg and so much history packed into this home.
Park ranger was very friendly and I wouldn't mind coming back just to spend time enjoying the view and gardens.

Free entry onto the grounds. The house was not open today despite the website saying it was. The gardens need a little tinder care in this Virginia heat. Still a peaceful place to sit, relax and enjoy the beauty. Would recommend early morning or late afternoon because of the heat. Restrooms were clean and accessible from the grounds. Wonderful historic site. Worth the stop.

Chatham Manor is one of the most beautiful scenic places in Fredericksburg. The house and grounds are lovely and well kept, and the view of the city is completely unmatched.
I first came here for a drawing class to walk the grounds and sketch different sculptures and scenes for Germanna many years ago. More recently, I brought my nieces and nephew here with cameras to capture the gorgeous Ginkgo tree in all it's bright yellow glory against the beautiful backdrop of the city of Fredericksburg.
Gorgeous place for a stroll in the woods, a visit to the gardens, or family photos under a beautiful historic tree.

Place is a very nice historical site with great gardens to walk through and see different sculptures. House has the bottom floor open for self guided tour of displays with information on the room and/or owners.
Go on a nice weather day so you can enjoy the gardens.

Free to visit and beautiful. The grounds are large with well kept gardens. The manor itself was beautiful and was a glimpse into the past. The historical placards were informative and it took us about 1-1.5 hours to see everything at a leisurely pace. The drive out is in need of repair due to washout, so drive carefully. If you have a large vehicle you should definitely take the alternate bus route out as the exit Is also very narrow. Definitely worth a visit!

This historic mansion has SO much history tied to it, it’s difficult to process it all mentally. The grounds are beautiful and the location serene. This is a great place to have a a picnic and reset our perspectives on what is difficult in life. The best part is it’s all free to visit as often as desired.
No matter the relationship, this is a good spot to make memories at.

A. Smith Bowman Distillery was established in 1934 by A. Smith Bowman, who initially purchased a piece of land for farming but later saw the potential to utilize excess grains by setting up the distillery. The distillery is known for producing Virginia Gentleman whiskey and offers tours where visitors can learn about its history and production process, followed by tastings.
I had a wonderful time visiting the A. Smith Bowman Distillery this afternoon. Art gave a great tour of the distillery, bottling line and barrel warehouse. It was quite nice to be able to get closer to pieces of the distillation process and barrels than at other distilleries I have visited in the past. It may not be a sprawling botanical garden like the huge Kentucky distilleries, but it was just as enjoyable because it was a smaller operation. The tasting was excellent and the staff was quite knowledgeable and friendly. My only wish would be to see more of the mashing and fermentation process. Overall, a great experience!

Great tour. I highly recommend touring with Sarah. I have a new appreciation for Bourbon. My favorite sample was the Port Barr Straight Bourbon Whiskey. I’m still buzzing!

This is a small batch distillery. We had the tour and tasting late in the day. We were the only ones on the tour and enjoyed the personalized service. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly. Their products are very good, especially the caramel bourbon cream. I’m not a bourbon drinker, but that’s so good!

It's a neat Distillery and pretty good bourbon. They do a good job on their showroom and they have a nice short tour. We went there on a rainy day, wouldn't recommend that. You can't buy anything to drink or eat there really other than a couple sodas. They do have outdoor activities but if the weather is bad I would stay home. The product is good and the tastings were free when you take the tour which I really appreciated. I found the tour to be insightful and fun.

Last minute visit to ASB and it was worth every second. Flights got delayed to snow that never came. Aunt and I were looking for something to do. She found ASB on google maps and I was like "I didn't know there were in Frederickerburg, hell yeah let's go". We got online and saw the had a few open spots for the Saturday morning tour and tasting. We made it in record time from her house and enjoyed a very interesting and informative tour from a young lady that I forgot the name of. After the tasting they brought out 6 bottles of allocated bourbon and I have never seen in Florida. We each grabbed one and some swag. Great last minute adventure and so glad I got to check this Distillery off my list. As for the tour it's not a very large Distillery, but the guide kept it fun and entertaining. She knew a lot about bourbon, and learned pretty quick I was going challenge her, it was fun and highly recommend going. There was some ghost in the barrel storage area that kept making her lose her train of thought. We all told her it was the wind, she didn't think so. LOL GO CHECK OUT ASB Distillery and go early early, you might score a good bottle!

Took my boyfriend and mutual friends for a tour and tasting. We had a really good time would definitely recommend. I personally don’t like dark liquor but their Bourbon was really good so was their vodka, I wasn’t a fan of the rum but the guys loved it and most of them brought a bottle at gift shop. Also their caramel cream bourbon liqueur was amazing I picked up a bottle and so did all the other ladies in the group.

Enjoyed a nice tour with my family this weekend. The tour was free and is family friendly. Micah was our tour guide, was friendly, informative and funny. After the tour my husband and I enjoyed a tasting. The tasting includes 2 bourbons, 1 gin and a dessert bourbon. They have a gift shop which sells the different drinks they offer along with other things like sauces, candles and more. Can’t wait to visit again next time we are in the area.

Great place and even better bourbon. Hosted an event with them and it was wonderful. All of the liquor distilled is top shelf, I have yet to be disappointed with anything. The gift shop has a little bit of everything for all the bourbon enthusiasts. I highly recommend the tour and the tasting.

Have been enjoying Bowman spirits for some time and thrilled to have had an opportunity to take the tour. Christine was top notch and knowledgeable about the product, history, and process. Of course, the tasting at the end was the cherry on top. Bowman produces such an impressively outstanding product, the nose, flavor, notes, and clarity are always spot on. Also, enjoyed a brief interaction with the master distiller. Looking forward to seeing what’s released next! If able, sign up online for free tour and tasting. I believe they are open 7 days a week.

Great tour and tasting. All for free. I bought a bottle of their sma batch randomly at the liquor store and when I realized how close the distillery was I had to check it out. If you like bourbon you definitely need to go here. They also make great gin and that’s what I ended up buying because I can’t get it in the store. It’s not far from DC/Nova and worth the drive.
The Fredericksburg Battlefield Visitor Center is a vital part of the national military park, showcasing various exhibits and offering seasonal guided walking tours. The building itself is impressive, providing ample information to visitors on both floors. Additionally, there's a lovely little shop in a second building for souvenirs. The center's location on the edge of town makes it an ideal starting point for exploring nearby attractions within walking distance.
Park Ranger staff were awesome.
Took time to personally map out positions of ancestors' unit locations in park.

Visited on a Tuesday in late December after Christmas holiday around noonish. They visitor wasn't too crowded. Just the right amount of people to feel comfortable. It also comes in waves with showing of the movie and when the video ends. Every hour and half hour there is a 22 min video that plays in the auditorium in basement. Highly recommend. It was created within the last decade and very informative. Its narrated by James Earl Jones. It may be a little graphic for younger or sensitive children. The rangers and volunteers at the front desk were super friendly ans knowledgeable.
The exhibits look very nice and updated. Its broken into multiple rooms throughout the buildings on multiple floors. There are a couple interactive ones as well with lots of items and not just text on walls.
The bathrooms were very nice and clean and located downstairs. There are also some located outside the park store which is a different building adjacent to the parking lot.
The park store is well equipted and very nice. We had a fun conversation with the employee behind the counter. She was very helpful and friendly. The national park stamps are provides here. Make sure to ask for the extra special stamps and they arent always put out on the table since there isn't much space for the stamping. There are national park tokens here as well but not at the chancellorsville store. There are specific pins and merchandise here that can't be purchased at the chancellorsville store either and vice versa. So if you plan to visit both don't assume everything is avilable at both locations.
Junior ranger program here is very cool. They dont have the badges but have a center patch with 4 rockers. One for each of the sites. Fredericksburg, chancellorsville, wilderness and spotsylvania. Only Fredericksburg and chancellorsville have vistor centers. The Fredericksburg location has the junior ranger book for spotsylvania as well. The Chancellorsville visitor center has books for the wilderness. The 0.5 trail outside was very nice and mostly paved. This needs to be done to answer some of the questions in the junior ranger book. It took us about 2 hrs to watch the video and walk through exhibits (without reading everything) and complete the outdoor trail for the junior ranger program. You could probably do it in 90 mins if you had a determined group of older kids. Add another 30 mins for the store. We could've spent more time here but everyone was getting hungry and we wanted to visit Chancellorsville as well. Probably wouldn't visit again after the first time. We saw about 90% of everything we wanted to but it was worth the one visit.

This was a really interesting and engaging vistor's center, and that's coming from someone who is *not* a huge war history buff. The staff were incredibly kind - chatted with us about our visit gave local recommendations, and were very thorough in making sure we got the most out of our experience overall. The information booklets are also thorough and very user friendly. The museum aspects were well constructed and easy to follow. The walking trail was also well marked and full of interesting information. The movie about the site is shown in the visitors center every half hour and was very interesting and well made. Restrooms were clean. This is worth a stop if you're hanging out in Fredericksburg and like museums, civil war history, or a nice walk.

You can not find a more visitor friendly center than this! There are so many interactive maps and places you can go. Every placard is easy to read and interesting. My children (9, 8, 6, 4) were so engaged. There’s plenty of room to stretch your legs but not more than a half day can handle. When you’re done, you have many places to visit in town that can serve you amazing food, great drink, history, friendliness and really just a place to settle into your relax mode. We can’t wait for you to come learn about our historic town. Our town, is your town!

Nice building with lots of information and you can do the sunken road trail from there. Make sure you visit both floors. Lots of info and a cute little shop in a second building. Very helpful and friendly welcome and the volunteers provided some excellent information and advice. We saw the movie (narrated by James Earl Jones) and toured the little museum. The Park Ranger was excellent. His knowledge of history was amazing. He talked about the battle, not the politics, but did not hide the terrible facts. The tour is free, and goes twice a day.

A bit busy parking today. There is a lot for the history person to see. The exhibit in the visitor center is interactive and good for all ages. They do a junior ranger program for kids where they can learn about the area battlefields and earn a very nice patch. Be sure to take in the orientation film it is top notch and if you listen carefully you won't believe who the narrator is. Spend some time in the national cemetery and note the statistics on the mortuary cannon at the center by the statue. Also a good place for those who want quiet meditation.

The staff inside the museum were great and super helpful! Got a ton of pictures of the battlefield walking tour, it's free and a really beautiful hike.
The trail is moderate, length is 1.5? Miles but all a trail, some paved, some dirt, and some wood chip squishy mixture. Very well maintained and has benches to sit and rest!

What a fascinating place! It brought to life the sad struggle of the country in a most trying time. So much death and so little accomplished. I’ve read about the battle in books but to stand on the Sunken Road and look down the slope really brings home the battle’s futility.
Kenmore is a historic building from the Revolutionary War era that has been transformed into a museum. It spans across 3 acres and boasts a lovely garden, interactive kids' rooms, and guided tours for visitors to explore. The mansion has been preserved for its historical significance and offers a glimpse into the past with its architecture and decor. Visitors can learn about the history of the area through exhibits and displays throughout the museum.
It was a good way to spend an hour. It would seem the tour guide did not have enough time to get through all of the information he had to say. I enjoyed looking through the house.

No pictures allowed, no book for sale (which is a shame), so you just gotta go see for yourself. The plaster work is not just the finest in colonial America, possibly among the best of all times. You would not be fooling yourself if you thought you were at Versailles, Schönbrunn, or Buckingham.
The tour guide talked for 45 minutes nonstop, showing that he's truly passionate and knowledgeable about the building. The attention to details for the restoration work is absurd, as they tried to find authentic period furnitures (true 250-year antiques!) exactly as described in the estate catalog, and looked for nail holes on the wall to determine where a portrait was hang.
Parking is free on surrounding streets, a lovely and quaint area away from the bustling downtown.
Geoffrey Zheng — Google review
Though the plaster ceilings are well worth the visit there is not much else to see. Our guide was in a hurry talking quickly and also very very loudly. A few people left the tour early so he skipped the last part for those of us who stayed rushing the end. Didn’t really learn much compared to all the other sites we visited.
Lynn Fetter — Google review
We took the 1:30 group tour with Tim. He was a fantastic tour guide and Kenmore was decorated beautifully for Christmas. My favorite part of the tour was learning about the saving and restoration of Kenmore and how they researched and studied carpet remnants and plaster work of the time period.

It is a lovely house and complex. We have toured the grounds and house before. Stopped in recently booked the last tour of the day. The guide was in a rush, he left out some major talking points that I'd remembered from my previous visit. Did not even show us or mention the kitchen right next door to the house. Nor did he mention the other building outside which I do not recall if that was a slave quarters or what it was. If you're not willing to provide a quality tour so that people can get their money's worth, then you shouldn't offer a tour late in the afternoon. Very disappointed.

The history of the house was very interesting, and how the colors were discovered and the carpet in the living room. We went through the house and the kitchen. Could not go to the second floor as the ceiling decorations were falling off. Ask questions as the docents were knowledgeable of the facility and the archaeology findings. No tickets discounts available. Watch the 14 minute film, and look at the diorama. Restrooms available. No real gift shop on premises.

Kenmore Plantation is an absolutely beautiful Georgian manor that was built from 1770 to 1775. It was built by Colonel Fielding Lewis and George Washington's sister, Betty. Original size of the plantation was 1300 acres, it is now 3 acres. There are many beautiful original furnishings and paintings in the house. We all found that the huge attraction of Kenmore are the incredible plaster ceilings, the most beautiful of any historical manor we have seen in Virginia! The detail and artistry have to be seen! They were all hand made by a very talented indentured servant without a formal name on record. The tour is of the bottom floor only, masks still required here and no inside photos are allowed. Also, the gardens are very nice!!

Walk in the footsteps of Revolutionary history as a period-costumed tour guide paints verbal pictures of this building's past lives as home to George Washington's Brother and decades as a local tavern and public house. Follow the GPS and park on one of the nearby streets. We found a spot quickly even though there was a festival happening a few blocks away.

I originally saw this building back in 1979 when there were fewer houses on this street. This is a cute little shop right in the Main Street in downtown Fredericksburg. It’s a great chance to take a peek into the history of this town in a convenient location. The people that worked there were very sweet and informative. It’s not the most exciting experience for young kids, it mostly goes over their heads. But we had fun with the leeches! They explain different medical procedures and a lot of that involves blood and bleeding and somewhat unpleasant things, so keep that in mind if you’re bringing kids.
Over all really cool information and a fun little thing to do with your favorite history buff.

The Mary Washington House is a historic museum that was purchased by George Washington in 1772 for his mother, Mary. She only resided in the middle section of the white-framed house, which is located near the Kenmore district where her daughter and doctor lived. During his journey to his inauguration in New York City, George visited the house to receive his mother's blessing. The Marquis de Lafayette also paid a visit to see the mother of his friend George Washington.
This is the house that George Washington bought for his mother Mary and she only lived in the middle section of this house. She would be closer to her doctor and daughter that lived at nearby historic Kenmore. George stopped by here on his way to his inauguration in New York City for his mother's blessing. The Marquis de Lafayette also visited Mary because he wanted to see the mother of his friend George Washington. Mary Washington University here is also named after her. No pictures were allowed inside. The lady that gave us a tour is very knowledgeable and so passionate about her job that my wife and her were in tears.

Very Interesting. Staff very knowledgeable and provided a great historical tour. Gift shop was a treat, along g with hot apple cidar and gingerbread (Mary Washington's recipe).

Authentic house, although greatly changed since Mary Washington was there. Guide gives a tour and information about the downstairs and then you get to view the upstairs on your own. I took away one star because of the two guides, one large lady was sitting down trying to catch up on sleep and occasionally checking her cell phone. Although I was guided around by the second person, this was really awkward.

Absolutely loved touring and spending time in the garden here! The tour and porch front biography were engaging. I practically felt like I was with George visiting his mom. It was exciting to hear perspectives on Mary’s life. I feel like I understand George’s life in a new way. If you enjoy quaint historical spots, this is gold!!

We love American history & had never heard that much about George Washington's mother. Quite a woman with a negative rep, which this tour begins to refute. Tour guides were very friendly & well informed. The gift shop is very nice, also with friendly staff. I purchased a bio of Mary Washington which doesn't sugar coat her but certainly dispels some of the negativity. There's also a monument to Mary near her gravesite. Also her "Meditation Rock", where she prayed for her son & our country is near her grave. Well worth visiting.

Went with our 4th grade class. I love how the interpreters were able to hear the information to meet SOL standards while still making it interesting to the kids. I learned a great deal as well. I Feinstein want to return on my own to really get to take it all in.

A very interesting tour! Lots of details about Mary Washington, George Washington's mother. The house was beautifully furnished with time period pieces and even some original furnishings. George Washington bought this house to bring his mother in from their farm across the river as she got older. A very nice gift shop also!
The James Monroe Museum and Memorial Library is a renovated historic building, now serving as a museum with exhibits and tours that focus on the life of the 5th U.S. president. Although disappointed that it is not the original structure, history buffs interested in the Colonial, Revolutionary, and early national periods should find this small museum intriguing. Visitors can explore various exhibits and displays related to Monroe's life and his impact on American history.
Excellent museum containing significant artifacts from James Monroe’s life. Museum staff were well-versed and helpful. This site is likely overshadowed by Mt. Vernon, Montpelier and Monticello, but the trip to Fredericksburg is well worth it if you have interest in the presidential sites. Interesting fact: this museum will be 100 years old in 2027!

This is an absolutely amazing museum. I learned a lot about James Monroe when I was here. I also love the way it’s laid out. It is a self guided tour. However, there is staff on hand to ask questions. The exhibits are laid out very well and there are detail descriptions about each one. Also, they have a very clean toilet here and that made me happy. All I know me and my partner really enjoyed visiting this museum and I highly recommend it if you pass through this area.

This museum has some amazing artifacts of American history belonging to one of the original revolutionary Founding Fathers, including the attire James Monroe, our 5th President, wore to Napoleon Bonapartes coronation as Emperor of France. The staff is very knowledgeable and extremely helpful and friendly.

We visited as part of a reserved school/organizational trip. We had multiple docents working together to give our group the details and highlights of the Monroe collection. It was fantastic! I really enjoyed the highlights the docents chose to share. There are some great pieces in the collection that any history lover of this time period or Monroe or the founding fathers must see! One of the docents is a 4th grade history teacher and she was very excited and enthusiastic in her passion for the history, which I particularly appreciated. It is always exciting to hear history from someone who is passionate in this way! I appreciate that this is a child/youth friendly museum. I feel like we don't always see that with smaller museums. I definitely recommend this as a stop if one is visiting Fredericksburg. If we live here it's a must!

this museum is more personal. They show a lot of artifacts and literature that was left behind by the monroe family. Very neat. It's small and will take you about 30 minutes if you take your time. Great informative custodian there.

George Washington's Ferry Farm is a replica of the house where America's founding father and first president spent his youth. The site offers guided tours for visitors to learn about this lovely piece of American history. For a fee of $12, tourists can take a short tour around the small replica home and visit the museum in the visitor center. Although it may not be worth it for some due to its brief duration, paying for the tour helps support ongoing archaeological studies at the site.
This is a really good up-and-coming museum. This museum depicted George Washington’s boyhood home. It is not the actual home however it is an accurate re-creation of it. They are still doing research and digging up artifacts, so it is history in the making. Our tour guide was very informative and they didn’t amazing job re-creating the house. Also, they have a total of 13 toilets open to the public on property so going to the bathroom here is not an issue. The bathrooms are very clean and they have nice toilets. Also, the admission price is very reasonable.

This is where George Washington grew up from age 6 and left in his early 20's to move to Mount Vernon with his brother. It's called the Ferry Farm by locals because a Ferry crossed nearby. We had a fantastic tour of the home by a very knowledgeable guide. The original foundation is still visible with the stone walls in the cellar. The visitor center has archeological artifacts about the farm.

I actually was a little disappointed in the venue. The story of George’s mother and the idea of where he grew up was fascinating; however, the “house” is so new that it really didn’t represent or transport you back to 1750s. The grounds are not that big nor is the “garden”. If you want George Washington living quarters then Mount Vernon would be the choice.

Great experience. The guide was amazing, she holds a plethora of information on his childhood, his mother. Simply incredible. Will have to go to Mt. Vernon after this!

Lovely piece of American history. Stopping in the visitor center, there’s a small museum and you can pay $12 for a short guided tour of the house. While I’m not sure it’s worth it, due to the tour only being around 10-15 min tops and only covering the small replica home; I didn’t mind paying so that the site can stay open and continue its archaeological studies. The sights are quite lovely, and being conveniently located near Historic Fredericksburg, you can head over there for more historical sites or to get a great meal. (Included some photos to show the beautiful scenery on the property, the replica house is awesome too, but I’ll save that for the viewer to discover !)

Ferry farm is a great museum to visit if you are interested in the history of George Washington. One aspect of this museum that sets it apart from others is that everything is a reproduction. That means you can interact with all of the furniture and objects inside the home. This is especially great for kids and teens. We enjoyed our guided tour of the property - our docent was very knowledgeable and informative.

Had about an hour to kill, drove by and saw this National Park of the childhood home of one of our founding fathers, George Washington. Thought it might be neat to check out. They have a visitor center, where it cost $12 to get a ticket to check out the property and have a guided tour of the home. Still not quite spring yet so most of the gardens, flowers and trees will still pretty bare. I would imagine do that in the springtime or summer that the property is quite stunning. I walked around a little bit checked out the house and then walked down to the Rappahannock River. Saw lots wildlife including some deer and woodpeckers. Got back up to the house so I could meet my tour guide. She seemed pretty knowledgeable, we sat outside the house explain the history and how Washington came to be here. Then went inside and pretty much told the story, mostly about his mother. There are lots of little tidbits to learn and she even sent me a couple times with a few questions. Only really disappointing thing he talked about a lot of artifacts that they found here. Everything is a replica basically they found where the original House was and lots of artifacts in the ground. I wish they had an area of where they showed some of the artifacts off. For $12 it wasn't bad she said that they were getting ready to start building her mother buildings where they think a barn and maybe some enslaved quarters were. I'm sure it's well worth it in the spring or summer time to come walk around. If you're a history buff I think it's well worth your time.

It's very surreal walking in the footsteps as the small boy, George Washington. Thinking about what life must have been like and how this farm built such a powerful leader and our very first President. The home is an exact replica of the original that burnt down. Built in the old ways as it would have been built way back then. It is still an ever changing and growing monument as more archeological building and details are discovered. Very much worth seeing and hearing about the life and struggles of this great general and statesmen. Truth or legend... As a boy, George Washington chopped down a cherry tree and after doing so exclaimed, "I can not tell a lie, I chopped down the cherry tree. " There are no visible cherry trees on the property. However, archeologist have uncovered thousands of cherry pits on their dig. The thought is that there must have been an orchard with cherry trees on the site at one time.

Fascinating tour of the home that George Washington lived in from the age of 7 to 19! The original basement has been discovered and the house replicated exactly as it was during George Washington's time. It is bigger inside than it appears from the outside. All the furnishings are excellent reproductions. The foundation has also saved 600 acres of the original land. Right on the Rappahannock River, Ferry Farm served as a dock for tobacco, the big cash crop, to be loaded on a boat and taken down to the bay for trading. Excellent tour and a beautiful garden!!
Fantastic time. Tried every single beer offered (and a cider too). Austin couldnt have been more helpful and friendly, really made the experience 5 stars. Venue is a delight. Ordered the fries and gravy and kielbasa, fries were outstanding, kielbasas ... not enough to justify the price.

Came here with the whole family. Staff was really friendly and accommodating. The food was the high point for me, the biscuits and gravy were amazing and overall everyone really seemed to enjoy the food. The beer was alright, I wasn't feeling amazing so the beer didn't sit well with me but my dad really likes it and he's got good taste so it must be good.
But the biggest highlight was the disc golf course. My brother, mom, and I had a wonderful time playing through and it really sets this brewery apart, more places should follow suit.

Our dining experience at this restaurant was pleasant. The ambiance was neat, and the food was tasty, especially the burger. We skipped the seafood options and went for steak, which was okay. We didn’t have great expectations on ordering the steak so we weren’t too disappointed when it came out cold. My friend ordered a rare steak so we were afraid asking the staff to reheat would cook the steak more. Nevertheless, our waiter was awesome and helped us choose some beers selections for our flight. We went here for the beer and had a great time.

Overall a great experience. Service was great. They do have a great choice of beer. Flights are available. Food was good. We tried their wings, kids Mac and cheese, salad, and a bratwurst dish. Everything tasted great except the bratwurst. There was just too much going on with the dish. It was wrapped in bacon and some kind sauce on top. I would say just keep it simple. We will definitely be back.

I so wanted this place to be a great place for food and a good beer stop!
The beer part is pretty good but after waiting over 30 minutes for a chicken club sandwich with fries and then it coming out cold, they definitely have some work to do!
I am not the first to bring this up in a review!
They have some cool history and cool things going on like the Beer it forward!
For beer and hanging out and not caring about time it’s a great place.
But for retired military I would expect a little more in all honesty.
If the reviews and food service improve I will be back.
But there is much work to be done to make this an awesome place.
There are too many great places in the area that have much better service.
I don’t mind waiting for Hot food!
I refuse to wait on cold food.
If your just going for beer it’s great, but a quick lunch is not even possible.

Our first visit to the brewery was about 5 or 6 years ago. The distance from home to the brewery is the only reason we haven't been back sooner. Enjoyed our first trip and we enjoyed it today.
I enjoyed a blackberry raspberry Gose while my wife sipped a Sea Mist hard seltzer. Both packed with flavor
Lunch was very enjoyable as well. We started with a Sailor's Knot (large pretzel) before chomping down on the Brewhouse Burger with a side of poutine (cheese curds with french fries). We were there for lunch but we'll both be skipping dinner!!!
Hoping to return sooner than the time it took between the first two visits. Well worth the trip.

Thank Ben Franklin’s ghost for an awesome brewery! So many modern breweries are focused on fruit and floral notes, this is so not that kinda establishment. They keep to the basics while venturing in to stronger ales. Their flagship beers are great. They do craft some great renditions of German varieties. Even better… they have their own disc golf course! Just ask and they will provide you with a set. Do yourself a favor and go during happy hour, try the tasty appetizers . The wings are large, I recommend the Strawberry Chili sauce. They do have a kids menu.

I used this brewery as a meet up location for my book club & we were met with amazing hospitality & attentive service. We sat outside & our party continued to grow throughout the night (nearly 30 people) & instead of any negative backlash, everyone was welcome with open arms. I truly loved our server (name unsure. Male, name started with an S). He was kind & very helpful for the 2-3 hours we were there. Thank you so much to this amazing brewery who helped us have a great time in a great atmosphere!!

Poor service right from the beginning. We stopped going to this restaurant hoping one day they'd get their service together. Unfortunately from 6 months ago, to just this evening, nothing has changed. Our food was cold, 5 onion rings from the smallest onion ever was served to me cold with the hamburger cooked perfectly but also cold. Waitress snapped at my husband when we asked for the check. The wait time was ridiculous for rude service and we felt unwelcomed. Word of mouth - we've recommended your place several times these past 7yrs when we are asked of a good place to eat a burger and drink a beer. However we now follow up with, "If you get a good waitress and aren't pressed for time".
Thanks for reading.

In a sea of strip mall fast food joints, this place is a real oasis, and the only place I would go for a beer on Rt. 17. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and the beer is FANTASTIC. I’ve been to a lot of Virginia Breweries and their Zero Dark Thirty (stout) is an absolute fave. I love their burgers and fries, and I’ve always had good service there…. And even if they were having a bad day, I would absolutely go back. It’s a small business started and run by members of the military community. I want to support a local business, even if they have their off days. Doesn’t everyone? 🍻

This was a surprising find. We decided to start the day (Lunch) here and try a few beers - maybe get a bite to eat. sort of a hidden gem. THere is a large dining area and outside seating (too hot today to sit outside - cant wait for the fall). Flights are available but I stuck with an IPA then a Rappahannock red. The 3 cheese sourdough toast Grilled sandwich was amazing, Routine Poutine was damn good too. Our waiter was great and staff was friendly,. Absolutely recommend this place and I shall be back.
Fredericksburg National Cemetery is a solemn resting place for over 15,000 Union soldiers who lost their lives in the fiercely contested battles of the Civil War. The cemetery holds the remains of many unidentified soldiers and features monuments honoring those who fought at Maryes Heights. Additionally, it was once home to Willis Cemetery until 1945. Visitors can also find graves of African American soldiers and veterans, including Urbane Bass, the first black officer buried there.
I was given five grave stone numbers to locate African Americans buried at this national cemetery. I was able to locate 3 of 5 on my first attempt. I was able to locate the first black officer buried in the National Cemetery, Urbane Bass, a black Fredericksburg doctor. He died in 1918 while serving in World War 1 in France.
I also found the gravestone #6688 of Charles Sprout(former slave) served with 1st US Colored Cavalry.
Thanks to National Park Ranger Peter Maugle, for his assistance with the leads, maps, and his knowledge.

Gorgeous place to kayak, fish, picnic, hike, or bike. I've kayaked here once and it was a nice experience, especially if you're a beginner. I'm more interested in their trails, however. There's lots of separate trails that connect so definitely have a map on you. There's a bike trail that goes all the way around the lake, too, and according to the map on their website it's open to hikers as well. For bikers, you'll want to park at the gate. All the other trails are further down near the lake.

It was a Birthday Celebration visit to Virginia this time that afforded us yet another wonderful, and beautiful hike in Motts Reservoir. The morning of April 23, 2023 was one of those mixed sun and cloud gooooorgeous Spring mornings! The temperature was still perfect for hiking and enjoying the beautiful outdoors. You could catch aromas from things coming out of their winter blanket to bloom, the cacophony of happy, chirping birds couldn't help but make us chuckle, and the feel of the reservoir, the air, the naturalness, all of it was just plain grounding and enlivening both at the same time! Life is Good! Motts Reservoir is always a favorite and a must when we visit!

Arrived on Wednesday, the sign on the gate said, closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. It continued, trails are open at your own risk. I took the risk to hike the trails on my own, and my day was better for it. Spectacular views, peace and quiet, except birds chirping, acorns falling from the tall trees. Even the ripples in the water were tranquil.

This place is really awesome for mountain biking and kayaking. The biking is not crazy difficult but challenging. Mostly it is smooth single track s-turning through the trees. Very fun! The reservoir itself it not huge but it is plenty large enough to have fun in a boat. Lots of wildlife - we got surprisingly close to a great blue heron and saw a water snake swimming by us while in the kayaks. The staff told us there have been many sightings of a very large turtle that they thought might be as much as 50lbs. Be forewarned - make sure you are off the water and outside the gate by the 7pm close. They actually lock the gate exactly at 7pm no exceptions. If you are just mountain biking and parked above the gate you are ok no matter what time you leave.

This is a very relaxed place to hang out. Sometimes live music. They serve hot soft pretzels and pizzas at the brewery and have a variety of food trucks. You can also bring your own food. Child friendly and plenty of space to spread out. The private room is great for meetings or parties.
They offer tastes of their beers before purchase and they have a great variety of beers to enjoy. They serve sours, sweet beers, IPAs, dark browns, and imperials. They also serve a few wines.
The decor is unusual, eclectic and whimsical. The space is large but becomes more intimate when they dim the lights towards evening. This is a great place to hang out with friends for the evening and enjoy a drink.

Not a great brewery. Massively overpriced (~$10 for an Imperial Pint) beer that's mediocre at best. $5 for a plate of fries I never got even though I gave a $4 tip.

This is such an incredible park near to the Fredricksberg city.
A few improvement to the park administration authorities and I wish I could deliver this message to the administrators of this park.
I was here for an hour and witnessed a few children’s minor injuries. One felt down from the swing and to be honest, there was no safety for children above the ground; the ground's surface was changed to ditches without covering wood or foam. At another moment, I saw a baby’s head hit the voice connecter and start slightly bleeding, which should never happen if safety was accounted for correctly; the steps are way higher than they should be required for children to be bonnet, not even easy for elders to climb.

Beautiful park with nice picnic shelters, a big soccer field, playground, and public restrooms. Down side is the over abundance of poison ivy. I get the fact it's in outdoor park, but there should be at least a little mitigation from the high traffic public use areas. Toddlers and poison ivy did not mix well. Probably will not be returning this season.

This is definitely one of the best parks in Fredericksburg! Nice big playground for the kids, huge fields for the kids to run in, plenty of space to fly kites. The Rappahannock River runs alongside it, providing excellent water access for fishing, swimming, inner tubing, canoeing, kayaking, rocking hopping, or just wading. There are plenty of trails to go one a little hike through the woods, or alongside the river. Above the park there are bike trails that also go along the river. It's the perfect place to take your family on the weekend, or to just get some R&R alone time. Endless opportunities for a fun time.

Popular park with various activities available. Sports field, beach area, picnic shelters, and children's play area. Sits on the Rappahannock River, next to Falmouth Bridge, great scenic views. I attended Earth Day Festival in the Spring, River Run Fest in Summer, that had hundreds of enthusiastic participants.

Beautiful, and spacious. Love this park and had my wedding here recently.
But if you are renting a space here please be aware the yard workers are not very on top of things... they made my wedding set up be delayed by an hour because they didn't move the picnic benches from under the pavillion even though it was requested in the rental and I called the city to remind them the week prior.
Just be aware.

The park overall is beautiful. If intending to get into the water, be aware that there are rocks - big rocks, bigger rocks, and huge rocks. To my understanding, it is a bit more "comfortable" on the Falmouth Beach side.

Amazing place only an hour from the DC area. The park was clean and everyone followed social distancing, "for the most part". Worth the trip and lots of fun in the river. Make sure you bring water shoes, food, and plenty of excitement, you'll love it!
Alum Spring Park is a serene and shaded recreational area with walking paths, picnic spots, playgrounds, and a fitness trail. The park is conveniently located near -95, making it an ideal stop for road trippers. Despite its compact size, the park boasts abundant nature to explore. Visitors can cool off in the pleasant stream or follow trail maps available at the trailhead to observe wildlife. Alum Spring Park also includes a small but charming playground for children to enjoy.
Walking trails here are great. Great access to the water to hang out & splash around. There are some cool rocky overhangs & areas to hang out along the trails. Small playground. Cool water crossing you have to drive thru to get to the parking lot. Overall, I was very happy to have found this park & look forward to coming back

Nice quiet park, has plenty of trees, a stream runs through it. There are various walking paths and a paved fitness trail. Benches are strategically placed throughout the wooded area and man made steps help with elevation and rock formation areas. A playground, picnic areas, and onsite restrooms, give all ages some activity and convenience, in which to engage.

We loved this park and the walking trail! A bit overgrown but fun.

Wonderful park along a large creek/spring. Connects to the VA railway path near restrooms. Lots of paths in the woods, large playground with swing set, walking bridge over creek near entrance, natural features, pavilions & picnic tables. Something for everyone. Very shady, great for summer. Only warning is, as with any natural body of water, have seen water snakes near wading areas. NON-venomous but they are there...it's the woods. 🐍

Great place to stop on a road trip. Not too far off I-95. We stopped when there was an accident backing up traffic on our trip home. So much nature packed into a small park, the stream is nice and cool and easy to wade in, there are trail maps at the trailhead for those that don't know the area, lots of wildlife. Skip the rest stop and let the kids hike here for an hour, we loved it. Plus a nice little playground.

This is a nice little park with the creek running along the whole hiking trail. There is a bathroom and a pretty nice playground. The main way in can look scary because the creek runs over the driveway. Go slowly and don't freak out, it'll be fine.

Alum Springs a great place to walk, play, and go RC trailing and crawling. The whole place is covered in shade, and even entering the park is a fun experience. Safely drive through shallow water (or park and walk the bridge), up to the parking lot. There you will choose your own adventures. Kid's playground, picnic benches, trails along a creek with plenty of spots to get in the water, or a paved path as part of the downtown trails. Some areas with steep overhangs, but more than enough room to avoid the egdes.

The trail is flat and peaceful. The walk along the water is well worth taking a trip to see.

This has always been 1 of my favorite parks in Fredericksburg. Decent little trails, 2 that go around water. The benches on the lower trail do need to be repaired, but the playground is solid for kiddos. They do have a few spots to grill as well. There are bathrooms next to the parking lot, and when I was there, they had a soda machine in case you forgot to bring a drink. I like to go to shoot pictures with the different seasons.

We stopped for a break to walk our dog on our drive from Florida. Just a few minutes off 95. We walked the loop of trails and our dog was happy. It was a bit slippery because of rain earlier in day but trails were fine. Pretty quiet. We saw one family and another person walking their dog. The entrance had a short drive through the water to get to the parking lot. Photo included

Great short hike for the dog. Lots of interesting things to see. The water was super high when we were there so the parking lot was closed. Will definitely be back in the spring when the season changes. Loved the map was accessible on my phone with a QR code.

A cute little park with a little bit of something for everyone.
I’ve used the park for nature photography and a photo shoot with a model.
The last time I was there a young couple were getting married on the rustic bridge.

Very nice park in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Fredericksburg! They have a shelter for rent, a picnic area, and several outdoor charcoal grills. A cool playground that was loaded with kids having fun! There is also a creek there that is crystal clear. Several families were taking advantage of that clear cool water. Bring your water shoes but be careful on the rocks. A cool foot bridge to cross and several walking paths. On one you get to try your hand at a little cliff climbing, great exercise! Just be aware of your surroundings, it is the great outdoors and home to snakes and some not so friendly plants. Parking is limited so I suggest you get there earlier in the day on the weekends. We even saw a squirrel patiently waiting for leftovers!

If you like the outdoors, you will enjoy this park! There's no bathroom, so be aware. Other than that, you drive thru a shallow running creek to the parking lot. There are some barbecue grills and picnic seating. There's also a playground to swing, slide, climb, and spin on.
My personal favorite is walking past the playground to the creek and adjoining trails!! As it gets warmer, they'll be some shallow wading in the spring fed creek. The trails have rocks that extend out to the water too! Everyone, including me, tosses rocks into the water.

This cute park is in the middle of the city, but is full of adventure, wether you want to play or hike, or splash in the creek. There is a close bathroom, and walking trails provide several levels of fun. Plenty of benches and picnic tables to enjoy. Also has a shelter for parties or get togethers. Definitely would recommend if you are in the Fredericksburg area. Bring an extra pair of clothes, or towels because the water is very cool to play in. Pets, are often out enjoying the park too.
Fantastic as always. It's my favorite brewery in Fredericksburg and one of my favorite breweries everywhere! They have one of the best ESBs ever! They are getting back to their roots and rotating sours in more frequently! I work here as a beerslinger part time. Come see me!

Plenty of seating inside and out. Beer so good. So welcoming of all... bring the kids..your dog. Staff super friendly. Bring food if you want and no rush, stay awhile.

Good beers, fun Halloween staff costumes and decoration, and special thanks to Steve for going above and beyond!
We chatted and he gave us recommendations in town since we were visiting. My fiancee realized hours after closing that she'd left her water bottle there, and we were leaving town hours before the brewery opened the next day, so I posted a question on the google maps not expecting a response, and Steve reached out early morning and coordinated a pickup, hours before they actually opened.

This place is a really great casual hangout. Great small batch beer in a comfortable atmosphere. The staff are super friendly and Dave, one of the brewers, loves to talk about their beers. The bartender, Mare, recommended the Rose of Sharon as easy drinking. I tried samples of the Hazy Situation, very unique, the Dragon’s Lair, salty and smooth, Road Rash IPA, another smooth one, and finally Me Da’s Irish Stout.
Dave poured us a sample from the cask to compare with from the draught and it definitely changed the flavor profile considerably. He said that the Dragon’s Lair had a good bit of salt in it and originally was going to have cucumber, but it already tasted so good they didn’t add it.
We had a great time having conversation, some chips, and ultimately some dinner from the food truck.
They had good mood lighting, plenty of tables and a long bar, merchandise, foosball table, darts, board games, cigars for outside, and garage doors to open in good weather. Small parking lot and street parking.

We stopped in on a Sunday. I bet it’s hopping for happy hour. Beers were light and hit the door after a long day taking in the local sights. Tap tender was a fountain of information and super friendly. Music and games to pass the time. This has to be a local favorite!

Love the atmosphere and customer service here. Really cool Place!! However, no parking, small selection of beer, and it’s only subpar. I’ll keep trying though because they are always adding new Beers.

Very good microbrewery almost downtown Fredericksburg and the people there are extremely friendly that work behind the bar. They have a very good selection of brews and it's in small batches so expect a lot of different types. for a small microbrewery they have a very nice bar and a lot of seating as far as tables and such. The only drawback I saw was the lack of flights so I could taste all of their beers without drinking too much.
Just quick update. Anyway they are doing flights now And now they have set up a parking lot with additional seating, Cornhole, and an area for food trucks.

This is a fun little brewery. Great place to hang out with friends. They have a variety of beers and usually have some fruity sour options. They don't serve food but often invite food trucks to their parking lot and you can eat inside. They have plenty of board games laying around to entertain.
Very impressive . Alot of graves from those that died during war ,most after . Plan about 3 hours

The average soldier doesn’t get in the politics of war usually. Early recruits mostly get to enjoy the cause- the rest go because their country says go. We can’t force modern beliefs and knowledge on these brave men.. in most times I find- people cryin about these men will never measure up to them. Great place to walk and think about the war.
Forward Observer — Google review
Well kept but depressing. They gave their lives in defense of an economic system based on the suffering, bondage and blood of other human beings. Similar to German military cemeteries, there is no glory in the cause, but the dead were loved and gave all.
kbmast1 — Google review
A sad place to visit, as all the Civil War cemeteries tend to be. I disagree with the review that called them traitors and fools. They fought and died for something they believed in to such an extent that they gladly gave their lives ... we seldom see that kind of commitment any more (with the exception of our current service men and women). This was worth the time to stop and pay your respects, even if they fought for what you consider to be the wrong side.

Can'e Wait to visit. Sad that so many still think the War Between the States was fought over slavery. Many famous officers and enlisted, as well as prominent citizens and ordinary people buried here.

The war graves are interesting in that there aren't all that many, but there are graves from from a few different battles.
