The State Botanical Garden of Georgia is a vast 313-acre horticultural conservatory that offers free admission to visitors. The garden boasts picturesque walking paths and provides educational programs for both adults and children. While some negative reviews exist, the gardens are well-prepared during winter and offer an excellent opportunity for photography. There's ample parking available, although it might get crowded on weekends. Visitors can donate if they wish to support the establishment, with a small donation box located near the entrance.
What an amazing place. All of the volunteers were so knowledgeable and so friendly. Even just the visitors were kind. The gift shop was fabulous and I picked up a few things for friends and family. I didn't get a chance to see the Holiday lights at night. But it was even more beautiful in the day. Everything is labeled so perfectly when you walk through. That only do you learn but you get a little bit of a hands-on experience with everything. Words cannot express what a fabulous time I had. Thank you guys so much for all of your hospitality and I can't wait to come back and visit again.

The State Botanical Garden of Georgia is a true gem hidden in the heart of Athens. As soon as I entered the garden, I was immediately struck by the stunning beauty of the natural surroundings. The garden is home to a vast array of plant species, each more vibrant and colorful than the last.
The pathways are well-maintained and easy to navigate, making it easy to explore the garden at your own pace. There are plenty of benches and picnic areas scattered throughout the garden, making it easy to take a break and soak in the beauty of your surroundings.
One of the highlights of my visit was the Conservatory, which is home to a wide variety of tropical plants and flowers. The air inside the Conservatory was thick with the scent of exotic blooms, transporting me to a far-off place.
The staff at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia were extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and they were happy to answer any questions I had about the plants and flowers. It was clear that they take great pride in the garden and its upkeep.
Overall, my experience at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia was nothing short of magical. I would highly recommend a visit to anyone looking for a serene and peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. 🌼 🌸 🌻 🌹 🏵

I had a great time exploring this botanical garden. I started out exploring the arts museum, which has some unbelievable pieces in it. Then I headed towards the trails and walked some of the white trail along the garden. Finally, when I thought I was just about done, I saw the international garden. It's amazing taking the stroll around that area, which leads to the front of the garden and plenty more to see once you're there.

I’ve been visiting the Botanical Garden for over a decade which is crazy to say! It is one of my favorite places in Athens. There is a giant magical playground that’s worth enjoying for all ages. I highly recommend walking around the Asian garden and meditating on their wooden meditation area. It’s so nice. A stunning venue for wedding photos, family photos, etc.

I’m not sure what all the negative reviews are about. This establishment is FREE and beautiful yet people still complain. Anyway, my kiddo and I had a great time today. The gardens are being prepped and it’s still winter so obviously not much was happening there but I cannot wait to come back when everything is in bloom 🌻🌸🌺 Parking was plenty, I’m sure the weekends might be a bit crazy. Although it’s free and free parking, donation is welcome and there’s a small box for it near the entrance. Great place for photos! The kids playground was awesome as well. The bathrooms were clean. Next time we’ll bring a picnic! There is a cafe but we didn’t go inside at all.

This botanical garden is probably my favorite place in Georgia. There is always something new to see as far as plant life, and wildlife such as owls, deer, and small woodland creatures. The children's garden is wonderful and full of activities. There are trails that run through the woods around the gardens. There is ample parking accessible by stairs and/or an elevator, a huge greenhouse building, a gift shop and cafe which are located in the greenhouse, a porcelain museum, several public bathrooms, and numerous gardens. All of it is free! You can easily spend a whole day here. Pack a lunch and take your time! Go in each season if you can to see the different plant varieties. They also have events throughout the year which are ticketed.

Love, love, love these gardens! I have been twice in the last month, bringing family then friends from Atlanta. Worth the drive and a great place to spend the day.
From the ceramics museum to the many gardens to the hiking trails, it makes for a wonderful day outdoors.
Entry is free but bring cash for the donation box in the visitor's center!

Absolutely beautiful! From all the flowers and tropical plants to the butterflies everywhere you look! The wildlife and shaded paths to more beauty! This is a must visit place if you are in Athens, Georgia! The indoor facility is cool and naturally oxygenated by all the vegetation. There is a vegetable garden. Children will love the playground and climbing ropes! You could easily spend the day just enjoying nature here! There is also an art museum and chapel.

Another excuse to be outside. Find a free spot designed with natural beauty. It is serene. It feels comforting to walk softly, just to hear all the birds chirping or frogs grunting. The fun is in looking at the different vegetation and reading what the plants are actually called. If you go at dusk, you will get a beautiful illumination of the sky with a nice range in color!

Great place to take a walk. Free too! Well kept gardens. Also a new beautiful ceramics museum. Ample parking. If you come prepared with proper footwear there are miles of hiking trails all around the gardens.

Athens Botanical gardens is a lovely place to visit to enjoy a nice stroll through the garden. The inside area has more flowers and a gift shop. When you drive in there is plenty of parking.
Note: I did remove one star for the number of stairs and hills at this garden. Compared to the Atlanta Botanical Garden, Gainesville location, this location is has more hills and stairs.
The children's garden is very cute. They even had a playground!

This place was amazing. Despite the crazy heat, the beauty of nature had me happy to keep exploring. Not to mention it was super quiet and peaceful!
There was plenty parking and the staff there were more than friendly. I'd definitely come back.

Even in the winter, the botanical garden was pretty and especially peaceful. Although much was dead that would have been great to see in the spring, summer, or fall, there were many beautiful trees and flowers inside of the greenhouse space (which was somehow not humid, a definite plus) that were just gorgeous. Trying to find winter-blooming plants among the dead was also fun, and the living foliage we found was still breathtaking.

Outstanding night with the family! Beautiful leisurely walk on a perfect night for late December. UGA team that put this event together did a great job. Excellent flow for both kids and adults. Concessions and restrooms throughout. It was a magical night for everyone. Thanks to everyone associated with the event.

I came here to check out the Porcelain museum and the Gardens, and I couldn't see it all in one day. They had everything set up for Winter Wonderlights (buy tickets for this in advance), and I wish they weren't sold out when I visited, but you can still see the light sculptures and all the holiday lights on the trees. Even during the afternoon it was lovely. A lot had died back for the season in mid-December, but this place was impressive nonetheless. I need to come back to see the rose garden in bloom, too.

We purchased tickets in advance for the 9pm time. Definitely worth buying the vip parking so you don’t have to ride the shuttle bus.
It was a great experience, beautiful lights, music, staff were awesome and friendly! It took us about 55 minutes to walk through. There were hot cocoa and s’mores stations set up if you wanted to purchase them. I couldn’t get over the amount of lights! We will definitely make this a yearly tradition!!
Diana Foster — Google review
We went for the Winter Wonderlights. The lights were bright and festive. However, the prices were a bit high for the hot chocolate, smores kits, and swag. The workers were all friendly and helpful. One of the volunteers even took our picture with our phone at one of the locations under the lights.
Sanford Stadium, the 92,000-seat football stadium located at the University of Georgia and home to their Bulldogs team, is a popular venue for sports enthusiasts. The stadium is well-maintained with clean facilities and restrooms that have attendants on hand. Visitors are advised to rent a stadium chair as the bleacher seating can be cramped during peak attendance times. Only card payments are accepted for purchases made throughout the premises. Exiting from the top parking deck may cause delays due to heavy traffic.
Is there a better college football stadium in the world? We don't think so and I have albums of amazing memories here. It's an absolute must attend once in your lifetime... countless for me and I'm so grateful. I love the people, the game and the great town of Athens. Formerly known as Susie Bulldog back in the Brumby beach days ;)))

It was a great experience. I would say this stadium is not handicap friendly, I seen alot of people struggling in the crowd that needed less stairs that day.
Half the stadium was closed due to the fireworks for graduation but I felt they could have done better.

We caught the Shuttle from the East Campus Deck to the stadium and that worked out well. Catching a shuttle back was a zoo, so we opted to walk. Stadium was very clean, as well as the ladies restroom (attendant on hand). I would suggest renting a stadium chair if there is not already one at your seat. The bleacher seating is very, very tight if it is a full house. We only bought drinks, so I cannot comment on the food. Card only- no cash. Oh, and if you are the top of the parking deck, you may have a long wait to get out. Also, many of the roads are closed when the game is over, so we actually had to go a long ways out of the way to get back on the correct route home.

Beautiful stadium on a beautiful campus. Staff was helpful, plenty of police around, and everything was clean. It was a pleasant experience. The sound system sounds great, and everything seems to be well taken care of. Really a top notch facility, rivaling some NFL stadiums.

Horrible... we were afraid for our lives. Crowd was jam packed in the concessions area, couldn't get to our seats at the beginning of the game, nobody there to control the flow of traffic, literally everyone was stuck in place just yelling at each other. Asked police for help, but they just got angry and wanted to watch the game. UGA won, yay... but this was the worst GameDay experience I've ever had

Bear Hollow Wildlife Trail is a 225-acre park featuring woodlands, wetlands, and a historic cabin. The visitors' center offers interactive exhibits for the public to enjoy. Currently undergoing renovations, the park has new fences that look much better than the old ones. However, some of the gates were locked which caused concern among visitors. The animal sanctuaries are in poor condition and resemble Yellow River Game Ranch during its decline.
It's more like a wildlife preserve than a zoo, but it is still really nice! It's well kept. They seem to be doing some renovations, but that's always a good sign. The animals were mostly napping when we went, but the few that weren't were amazing to see and observe. They also give facts about the species, and they tell you exactly what you're looking at. The bald eagle was my absolute favorite. They even had turkeys, which was nice to see just to see not for sport. My daughter liked it too. She's loves animals. Best part is it is free!
Corey Guthrie — Google review
This zoo is great. It is small as some reviewers say but they should keep in mind it is a free zoo for rehabbed animals. We saw owls, bears, turkeys, river otters, a bald eagle, a gator and more. My 7 year old didn’t want to leave. We all had a great time and will be back.
Judy Woodcock — Google review
Small rehab zoo with free entry. Otters, beavers, small reptiles, deer, an alligator, owls, a skunk, a fox, bears, turkeys, and a bald eagle. Some lovely relatively new murals now too. The nearby Birchmore Trail and Memorial Park with playground, small lake, and dog park are worth checking out.
Christine Bernal — Google review
Love this place. Quaint and quiet. A great place for a quicker outdoor activity. Don't expect to spend your whole day here, the whole zoo can be experienced in full in about 30 to 45 minutes. Head over to the pond from the same parking lot and see more wildlife than the zoo has to offer. Turtles, frogs, geese, ducks, squirrels, snakes, fish, and plenty more are all available for your viewing pleasure! Picnic tables are available for lunch :)
Melanie Komasinski — Google review
Great place to have a birthday party. There was a place to grill. You do have to reserve the pavilion. Summer rates cost more than winter rates. Each pavilion has about 4 picnic tables. You can also walk around the pond.
Renee Gardner — Google review
It's a little bit more rundown than it was when we visited in 2019. They are in the middle of some renovations that look very nice. The new fences look much better than the old ones. I don't know why some of the gates were locked. It was a little troubling. The biggest detractor right now is the condition of the animal sanctuaries. Kind of reminds me how yellow River game ranch was in their decline. Have to keep in mind that this is a free to the public zoo. If you go to their website there are options to help to support them if we don't want to see something like this disappear.
Broocks Regan — Google review
We love coming here and seeing the bears, alligator, otters, and other animals. The zoo has just reopened after being shut down from covid 19 for a few months. They have re-routed part of the path so it is one way to cut down on guests getting close to each other. It is a nice little free zoo!
Karen Phillips — Google review
Always a delight to visit. Clean areas and healthy looking animals. The park has also taken extra precautions to keep people and animals safe during the pandemic. In general the park is always well cared for. The animals are beautiful and amazing to see. It's a great place to visit.

The historic district of Athens, Georgia, known as Downtown Athens, is the earliest and primary hub for commerce and dwelling in the city. It boasts a rich cultural heritage with well-preserved architecture from earlier centuries. The area is home to various shops, restaurants, entertainment venues, and residential properties that cater to different lifestyles. This downtown center has been instrumental in shaping Athen's identity as a progressive urban city with a diversified economy offering opportunities for people of diverse backgrounds.
Breweries are no longer uncommon, especially in lively and nuanced towns like Athens. So, to shine, breweries must have remarkable beer and a unique vibe. With a broad selection of high quality beer, dim lighting, and droning music, Creature Comforts checks all of these boxes. Being from out of town, I stumbled upon this place by asking a random student of UGA which brewery would be considered the ‘can’t miss’ spot in Athens. Without hesitation, he said Creature Comforts. Clearly, the students here have exceptional taste.

This old Snow Tire store is a perfect location to provide a large amount of indoor and outdoor space to enjoy some good beer. Creature Comforts definitely excels at brewing a delicious lineup of IPAs and sours, but the tap list is somewhat limited beyond that. Otherwise it is a great place to catch up with friends and family while sampling a few beers.

This place was nice looking and clean. But they didn’t have a delicious beer selection. My wife tried three and finally settled on one that she disliked the least. There was not much for a non beer drinker. Food comes from a food truck. They sell lots of kitschy items and take home apparel. We went hoping to. It a pint glass. But since they only sell 10oz or 16 oz drinks, there were no classic pint glasses available.

The Georgia Museum of Art is a well-established institution affiliated with the University of Georgia that offers various educational programs and rotating exhibitions. One of the museum's primary attractions is the Archaeological Treasury, which showcases exquisite pre-Christian gold, silver, and precious-stone work from burials in Georgia dating back to the 3rd millennium BC. The Colchis collection stands out for its impressively detailed gold adornments.
Wonderful museum with gratis entrance. I enjoyed the guided tour. The volunteers and staff are very passionate about art and their museum. I even had the pleasure to speak with a wonderful student named Ray about her work and the psychological significance that modernity has had on artistic expression. A great museum with great people. Definitely recommend, though parking on campus can be a bit interesting.

There's a lot of different exhibits, mostly paintings. The art is segregated by theme or era. There's lots of abstract, realistic, and different types of art. It's nice for people who like to see art. There were closed areas unfortunately

After living in Athens and being a student at UGA, I finally visited the Museum of Art and was not disappointed. There was an Italian Renaissance exhibit when I went and it was absolutely spectacular.
There were people wandering around, but uncrowded. Noise levels were kept to a minimum, which helped keep things peaceful. Signage was posted for all art pieces explaining each piece.
The only issue I had was with parking. The machine wasn't accepting cards, and there wasn't enough signal to use the parking app. While this isn't specific to the museum itself - and therefore isn't reflected in my rating- , it does impact the entire visit when trying to connect to a parking app in the museum so you don't get ticketed.

Went with my 4 kids, ages 8-14. The 8-year old did not enjoy it. The 11-yr old warmed up to the art while we were there. The older 2 enjoyed the abstract art over the historical art. I loved all of it. I particularly loved the historical art and the added information posted that gave me more context about what the art represents. We were there for about 2 hours. We rushed a little through the second part, so I would say plan for 2-1/2-3 hours to fully enjoy the art. It is free to get in, but you have to register for tickets with a time slot. Parking garage was close and free!

So fun! I loved all the exhibits, so many to appeal to any and all. They had an interactive one where you could weave part of a blanket, I liked if. I spent about an hour and a half here, reading quite a bit. We had to leave because it was closing and I could have probably stayed 20 more min or so but was pretty satisfied. There are 2 sections to the second floor so be sure not to miss out! They have free parking for museum patrons. We made reservations online (oct 2023) and they were free. Great art museum!

U can finish it in 1 hour work with plenty time to go through every single art work. As of now there is nothing much but may be more contributions from local communities might help them get more art work. I would suggest they allow all art workers to show case their items in other half of the building. Art lovers would always love to see more work irrespective of what generation did the work.
Reshmi Prakash — Google review
I loved the rooms oriented by theme rather than time period/style. More thought provoking and causes you to compare and contrast. The Russian collection is a stand out from other art museums in the US as is the works done by African American artists from a variety of time periods and origin.
The Georgia Theatre is a popular rock and roll venue that attracts large crowds. The venue boasts a rooftop restaurant and bar with stunning views. While the concerts are up-close and exciting, some attendees have expressed concern over the time it takes to exit due to limited exits during inclement weather. Despite this, the staff should take measures to ensure quick and safe exits for patrons. Additionally, visitors are encouraged to try out the rooftop restaurant's delicious food while enjoying breathtaking views of the surrounding area.
I love seeing shows at this historic venue. It has great acoustics, lights, and good views wherever you stand. It’s a far drive from where I live but absolutely worth it. Some of my best music memories were formed at the Georgia Theater.

Great venue for an up and close concert! Saw Robert Earl keen in concert here! Nice! Four stars for the concert. Minus a star due to the length of time it took the crowd to exit. Only the front doors (2) were open for exit…. It was raining and storming and a huge crowd gathered at and under the front awnings. Staff should consider having those people clear the exits for fast and safe exit. Other than that, neat venue!

Overall, I had a great 4.5 years here. I’m a minority and have never felt discriminated against, but I do admit if I went to GT or one of the northern schools I could of made more friends. The people here are a bit cliquey. Parking lots are enforced and you better register your car with parking service. Every single year UGA admits more student and oversold more parking permits than what’s currently available forcing people to park in section 8 housing area. I recommend getting a e-scooter if you want to get around since the buses are packed and often don’t stop at where you want to get off. It’s been 4-5 years since I left this place and Athens will always have a place in my heart. I’m also doing really well in life and I am thankful for UGA for providing me with the resources and jumpstart my career in the first 1.5 years of my early adulthood. go dawgs!

Attended the University of Georgia for 3 degrees. Absolutely loved my experience and wouldn't trade it for any other at another institution. In addition to Athens being a beautiful city and UGA having a beautiful campus, I felt I was appropriately challenged as a student. Social life is exceptional, with many opportunities for students to connect with others.

Excellent place for racist football players like Jamaal Jarrett to make racial comments on Asians. 100% would recommend for all Asians to come and experience the once-in-a-life experience.

That is great school for Local people and very famous. Teacher are great and programs are very good. People are friendly. However, try not to choose as an international students. Public transportation in Athens is very bad even though university has own transport. In some situations, actually they really cannot help to international students. Eventhough, you live on campus, some students housing need to leave at break and holidays. Some students does not have places to stay in this situations. To rent, you need like credit checks in USA. Groceries are very far therefore you need a car to go there or do online groceries. But you can not buy other Asian food at these groceries. At night, after 5pm there is only one bus on each route at within an hour public transport. To buy a car, buying car insurance and parking fees are also need to include in your budget to consider. Or can you drive also? Mosely some international countries do not need to drive cars, single daily lifestyle. That is also another difficulty. For a local people is normally here they already start drive at 14. Moreover, there are many homeless people around the north side of Athens. For international students, not safe to go around at night in this areas without cars. Student life is not fun like Eurpean universities.
There are less job around the school. If you dont get full scholarship, dont think this one.
(Update,
There was a murder last week February near the university and a girl die.)

Quite possibly one of the most overrated institutions in the state of Georgia and I say that as a life long fan of the football team.
They have respectable grad programs, but if you're an undergrad, go literally anywhere else...
We were just cattle instructed by grad students. Such a farce, this institution.
It's the Harvard of Northeast Georgia. What they don't tell you is a UGA degree is the same as any other outside of NE Georgia. In fact, some employers will literally hold it against you.

Sandy Creek Park, a vast 782-acre outdoor recreational area, boasts numerous nature trails and exciting activities such as disc golf and boating on Lake Chapman. Visitors can relish in the mini beach experience without the waves, making it a perfect escape spot. The park offers various opportunities for fishing, canoeing, kayaking, barbecuing, and overall leisurely fun.
Love the idea of a mini beach experience right here in town. Only missing the waves. But it is a great escape. You can fish...canoe...kayak...barbecue...just a good Ole time!

Nice, large park. If you have a dog, this is the place to take them! Our kids enjoyed the playground and riding their bikes on the paved path. The lake was pretty and there is a Sandy beach for swimming in the summer.

Our dog LOVES ❤ all of the private dog parks here!!! He doesn't get along well with others, so we NEVER get to take him to dog parks while traveling 😞 (Thank you so much for making thos an option) Going in, it's easy to assume that for only $1-2/hr (I can't remember which, but I think it's only $1), ur only going to get a small fenced in area with little to no shade. That's so not the case. Every single one of them has shade, a water station for them, picnic tables, usually tennis balls laying around, and TONS of room to run and play. #5 is my favorite one. It's huge with a wooded area in the middle of it. Saint lives for this place!!! One of the many reasons we love this area and are not looking forward to when we have to travel to the next spot. ✌🏻❤🐕🐾🍂🪵🍄🐿🐦🌲🌳☘🍁🌿🍃🦗🌎 #exploreoutdoors #germanshepherd #fisharefriendsnotfood #stopanimalcruelty #veganfortheanimals

A park that's over 200 acres of well maintained dog parks, multiple children's playgrounds, golf, frisbee, swimming, boating and fishing, just to name a few of the activities they support with equipment provided.
There are also several hiking trails to choose from that are also very well maintained without taking away from the natural beauty of the areas. There's many interesting and amazing sites to visit along the trail so make sure you bring a camera! For only $2 per person a day, the price is phenomenally low for all that they have to offer. I'm thinking about getting the year pass. That's $30 for Clark County residents and $50 for non-residents, this includes two adults and one child under the age of 17 from the same household.

IT IS A GREAT PARK.
kayaking, great dog parks, and disc golf. The only "beach" near here. :-) Ample parking.
Local tip: Buy an annual pass..It's inexpensive and worth the money! Also, it's closed on Mondays except for some holidays.
I just wish Cook's trail that linked the Sandy Creek nature center to Lake Chapman / Sandy Creek park was open. Very sad that's being allowed to fall into disrepair.

A great place to hike and enjoy nature or exercise. Prepare your calves, because there's a lot of subtle ups and downs along the 7 mile loop around the lake. We saw lots of animals and the girl at the front gate was very helpful in assisting us with buying an annual pass. Probably a good fishing place as well, but I haven't tried it out yet.

Sandy Creek Park is a hidden gem near the University of Georgia. It boasts a fantastic trail system that winds around a scenic 7-mile lake, perfect for hiking, biking, or a leisurely stroll. The park also regularly hosts 5K races, making it a great destination for runners of all levels.
For those looking to relax and socialize, Sandy Creek Park offers numerous picnic tables and pavilions. These are ideal for barbecues and spending quality time with friends and family while enjoying the outdoors. There is a fee to enter the park, but the amenities and beautiful surroundings make it well worth the price.

Great park and great disc golf course. Only thing that seems off is that they charge $1 extra for disc golf, when all of the other park users don't have to pay that extra dollar to use the park for their activities. I understand the extra $1 was to help pay for the baskets and that's fine, but that was over 10 years ago as I have been paying that fee since then. Or maybe to maintain the course, which a lot of the local club members do for free aside from cutting grass, which they would cut anyways. They have more than paid for them by now, but they enjoy they extra revenue so they won't do away with that frivolous charge. It's the main reason I and a lot of others go elsewhere to play unfortunately.

I wish I went to Sandy Creek more often. It's a beautiful park with plenty of walking trails, a Frisbee golf course that I am told is highly rated, the beach is actually not overcrowded although it's not really a swimming area. (More of a kids swiming area.) I have been standup paddle boarding there a few times. It's a great park!

Sandy Creek Nature Center is a valuable facility in Clarke County that offers live animal exhibits, nature trails and various rooms for educational classes and meetings. The center provides educational content that caters to all ages, but mainly focuses on children. It houses different kinds of animals like Loggerhead turtles, local frogs and snakes. Additionally, there are maps available for visitors to explore the facilities and trails.
A true gem for Clarke County! The visitor's center offers educational content for all ages, but is tailored towards children. It also houses numerous animals, from a Loggerhead turtle to various local frogs and snakes.
There are plenty of maps of all the facilities and trails inside and the restrooms are clean.
The trails are fantastic and well maintained. The main trail right off of the visitor's center has lots of information for both children and adults about what you can find along the way.
Sandy Creek is truly a wonderful place to learn about local conservation efforts and a nice place to spend the day.

In the 1800s, a peculiar professor granted ownership of itself and the adjacent land to an oak tree. This unique white oak tree can be found at the intersection of two roads in a calm residential area. Although not prominently featured, it is protected by marked boundaries. Over time, the original Tree That Owns Itself fell in 1942, but its offspring still stands tall thanks to efforts put forth by the city to recognize and maintain this natural wonder.
Cool. I am moved by the story of the tree and its mom. The road is narrow and winding with the tree but people haven't challenged the silent landowner, but respect its rights.
C. Wang — Google review
It's cool to know this exists. I went thinking it was going to be an ancient tree. Its just on its own plot of land. The streets were small crowded and no parking. It is in a historical district so it was also beautiful area. So its a cool back but not really enough information on why was it so beloved. No age or how much it was left to know how long it is to be maintained. There's no real good room for it to grow very big. And I drove there instead of going to check out another ancient tree. It's OK but not great
Rose Al-Sawmahi — Google review
Pretty white oak tree at the corner of two streets in a quiet neighborhood. I walked to the tree from the downtown post office and it only took about 15 minutes. If I had not intended to find it I may have walked by it as it is not prominent but the space around the tree is marked and protected. I give it five stars because it is a delight that the city has continued to recognize and protect the tree. It is also known as “The Son of the Tree That Owns Itself” because the original tree fell in 1942 and the tree that stands there now was grown from an acorn of the original tree.
Glori Cosio — Google review
Very cool sight to see, specially because of the story behind it (you can ask any of the neighboring houses and the owners will tell you all about it). The only downside to it is finding a place to park because the streets are pretty tiny but it's something I would totally recommend to those passing by Athens.
Arthur Da Silva — Google review
I was happy to see people took time to rescue the tree. Was great to see that part of town cause it was so old. Also the concept of the tree owning its self. Makes me curious if every acorn that sprouts from it, would be entitled to its own rights as well. If so people should plants more of it.
Trevor Todd — Google review
This is totally a side visit.... not a main attraction. I knew this going in to looking for it. I personally like the oddity of seeing a tree that owns itself because I have a quirky sense of humor. It will not be for everyone. If you're looking for bells and whistle find another attraction. However if you like seeing nature and something out of the ordinary and you're in the area it's a nice little drive by attraction.

This was a fun side quest. The tree and the 8 feet around it seem to be doing well, even in winter. Easy to find, maps takes you right there. Interesting stop and a little jealous of the tree getting its own space and owning itself!

I had a 2 day company conference at the classic center. Great events space. I wish I could have explored the building more, but there were multiple events going on. The only complaint was the catering. I'm not sure if the venue provided the food, but it did seem they provided the wait staff who were nice. You do not realize how big the space is from the entrance because the big rooms are down 2 stories. The main room can be broken up into smaller rooms and still have a big conference area. I would like to see it fully opened up for a concert. Overall, it was a good experience.

Was there for the gta conference. Dec 6-8. Very nice facilitie. Staff very frendley. You can enter the parking structure from two different locations, front side and back. $10 for the entire day. They had all their Christmas tress up and decorated. The elevator is very small and slow. It's very grand when you walk in, very well taken care of. Walking distance to restaurants, shopping etc. Recommend you leave your vehicle at their, and walk downtown, which starts just across the street from the front. In the rear, there is ice skating. Over all, a very nice place.

Our party got tickets for "Come From Away". Our tickets were bought on opening day yet our seats were deep in the back. I'm not complaining just saying if you think you want to see a play don't drag your feet. Athens has a culturally active residence. As for the Classic. There's plenty of parking as long as you plan accordingly. I like to scout out the parking options before I get there. The hall itself is beautiful. Great acoustic. The sound system made you feel you were in the front even if you were in the middle or back. The seats are a little cramped but not noticeable. The guides are helpful, to get you to your seat. They had a digital monitor to check you in which seems to bog things down but with time we will adjust. The ladies and gent bathrooms were plenty and clean. Finally. I highly recommend attending the The Classic Theater productions.

I am reviewing the ice skating rink. The rink itself is nice and spacious, and the rental skates are pretty good as far as rentals go. Points off for 1) hard to find and no signage. To get to this rink you need to walk fully past the classic center towards 1000 faces and make a right. It took me like 20 mins to find since there were no signs or directions. Ended up having to call my friend for them to guide me to the rink. 2) No good parking, the lot is expensive and it is hard to figure out where to park nearby. 3) no discount for bringing your own skates. I prefer when rinks charge less if you aren't renting skates.

Show was great. Big backlog at the ONLY entrance 6 minutes before showtime. The calendar we received at beginning of the season had show date as Feb. 27. The actual date was Fed 28. We went both dates. No notification of the change ever received. I am very tech savvy, however the ticket delivery system is a complete mess. Good news I found some street metered parking a block away that saved money and when time to leave was not stuck in the basement of a parking deck waiting for 10 minutes to move out of my parking space into a 5 minutes long queue.

Went for the Jurassic event. The event was nice if your kid was 3-8 years old. But they didn't specify anything about on the site nor did they have signs at the inflatables. We stood in line for inflatables my 10 yr old grandson wasn't allowed on. Then they had you pay extra for whatever was supposed to take place after 4pm and nothing happened. The Double Barrel Cannon is an old experimental artillery piece with two barrels that is now located outside Athens City Hall. It has a fascinating history and was once aimed at a lawyer's office. This unique tourist attraction is not widely known and can be discovered using Google Maps.
The back drop of this cannon is very nice. It is very well preserved and a nice landmark near the government building. There is a bench near by which offers a great view to the street & pedestrians passing by.

This is a cannon installed on one corner of the Athens CITY HALL.
Not too much to see there at this location.
The only thing that makes it different from usual cannons is that it has two barrels, both barrels are joined to make a single unit.
In my opinion it's just an okay place and can be covered it you are strolling the Athens downtown.
Not a place for which you need to go and visit explicitly.

This is one of the great parks in the greater Athens Georgia area. There used to be an older park close to here. They demolished the old the park and built this one brand new. This park really has some nice interactive challenges for kids age 14 and under. However, 4 to 8 year olds have a blast as well. There is also an area that is appropriate for 5yrs and under. There are plenty of obstacles slides things to hang on climb up and spin around on. There is even a mega tall slide. Great for an hour to 3 hours of play time and in close proximity to plenty of restaurants.

My kids enjoy this playground. It seems a little too big for toddlers and too small for older kids. But if you have a young elementary school child, this is a good option for you.

Was very clean & the children loved the splash pad.

The TRR Cobb House is a museum showcasing period furnishings and exhibits on mid-19th century life. The house, originally located in Georgia, has been moved twice and is now situated in Athens. The restoration efforts are commendable as they aim to recreate an authentic historical ambiance, including ordering hand-made carpets from a centuries-old English company. Visitors can explore the historic Greek Revival home for a small donation of $2 per person.
Excellent historic house museum with wonderful decorative arts collection and a complex story to tell.

Free admission. It was a great place to stop in and check out, but it only took about 10 minutes to look around. Probably because the upstairs is off limits, it seemed like their offices, so there's only about 4 rooms to look at on the main floor, however if you love history and especially historical interiors, it's something to check out.

Such a beautiful piece of history. Really enjoyed the history.

Cool house museum of a famous historic Georgian and Athenian. House has been moved twice, once to Stone mountain and recently back to Athens, which is quite neat in its own right. They are working hard to restore it completely in a period appropriate manner, down to ordering the same pattern hand-made carpets from a centuries old company in England!

Went during the week and all they asked was a $2 per person non-mandatory donation. It was really worth the visit for a short 15-30 minute walk of a gorgeous historic home.

I loved it! Very educational and time well spent. I learned a lot and can't wait to go back!

Great tour given by Kaitlyn from the Athens Welcome Center.
Lyndon House Arts Center is a vast complex dedicated to the arts, housing galleries, classes, and a gift shop. One can also find a children's wing here. The center features various artists and their works. It is located in an attractive area that makes it worth visiting. Additionally, there is an old house on the property with informational plaques explaining its history and inner workings for visitors to appreciate. The staff at Lyndon House are very welcoming and passionate about sharing art with others.
Beautiful location to visit and view featured artists. We were there to view and honor Lloyd Florence with family and friends. We enjoyed the historic house too. I highly recommend visiting it and taking time to read the displayed informational plaques explaining the house and some of it's interworking. You will appreciate the history.

Great place to experience art and a very friendly staff, but mediocre open studio management. I would not recommend purchasing an open studio membership, specifically if you are working with ceramics. It would often take weeks, sometimes months for anything to get fired. I ended my membership due to several of my pieces getting ruined from a careless kiln firing. There is little to no communication with open studio members.

The people who work here are so friendly! Dropped by randomly and they gave me a personal tour of the gallery! You can see the passion these people have for sharing art!

Beautiful layout and building for art display, but when I visited lots of empty space

A great place to see wonderful artists such as the world-famous Abner Cope and works by the creator of the art piece 'Come Onto Me' - Yvonne Studevan. From the entrance area where Harold Rittenberry has a wonderful metal art installation, to major shows featuring art by Vernon Thornsberry - The Lyndon House is a 'must visit' when in Georgia!

I was very impressed with this place. I recommend if visiting the area. Laid back, go at tour own pace, way to experience art and culture.

Beautiful. I love this place, the art is just amazing.

Very cool place. It seems they have different themed exhibits every so often, presumably by local artists. It's a smaller art museum type place but very lovely to be in and look at, quality artwork as well.

I took my mother visiting from out of town here a few months ago. The woman at the front desk was so nice and even gave us a scavenger hunt sheet for my son. The second time we went, however, the woman at the front desk (a different older woman with glasses) was so rude and acted like we were intruding. She barked at us to be quiet because there was an event going on. When I was waiting for my sister while she was in the restroom, I overheard the woman muttering about us and our kids to another lady that was sitting next to the front desk glass. The kids were giggling, but otherwise being very well behaved and there were absolutely no signs to let us know there was an event going on. Thank you for showing my visiting family that Athens is a city of rude people that does not welcome kids. Bring back the nice lady and get rid of the mean old bag at the front desk.
The 40 Watt Club is a well-established entertainment spot that hosts talented performers ranging from local to national acts. The venue features live music events that draw crowds of all ages and backgrounds, creating an electric atmosphere for dancing and enjoyment. The friendly staff members add to the overall experience, ensuring that everything runs smoothly while keeping guests entertained throughout the night. Whether it's catching Love Tractor or Monkey Doug Stanley playing the Geeta, visitors are sure to have a fantastic time at this excellent venue.
Excellent venue. Very friendly staff. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Love the 40 Watt! It's the classic Athens venue where some of the best have graced the stage. You've got to catch a show at the 40 Watt because, well, it's the 40 Watt!

Nice place. Saw plini and strawberry girls live here and it sounded fantastic. I was a front of house sound engineer for live bands for over 30 years, so when I say I was impressed by the sound, it's not just a flippant comment. Nice bar with wide selection of beverages. Will definitely return

Love Tractor and my love ❤️ monkey🐒 Doug Stanley playing the Geeta! Don't get much better than that! So much dancing and fun 🙂

The club was clean, the set up flows well. Good places to chill. We went for the Kilo Ali show, but Kilo never came out. We also paid $20 for tickets, but no one ever asked to see tickets or pay a cover. It was a Bachelorette party and we were VERY disappointed. The drinks were good. The entertainment that WAS there was wonderful.

We had an awesome time for the All them Witches show! The Swell Fellas put an awesome opening show. Our bartender for the night was excellent! Ladies at the front entrance were great. Guys at the merch table were great. Other staff members helping thing run smoothly and keeping things in order were great and entertaining as well! Over all, the best experience at a show that I have had in a long time! Great jobe everyone!

If you haven't checked out the 40Watt do yourself a favor and go experience what the late 80's and early 90's were like in the music world. I feel like I stepped back in time when I walked into the club. It has its own vibe!

I would describe 40 Watt as a historical landmark, but it's still current and modern with the talent they bring in. My wife and I went to the Pop punk Xmas concert hosted by That's Rad, which featured 2 other bands. Nix the Scientist and Way Past Cool. We were not disappointed. Had a great time!

Great venue! I've seen a couple of bands here and the staff are great, always feel safe, drinks are reasonably priced and the bands sound fab. Gotta be one of the best venues in the US if not the world 😝

We went to see Them Dirty Roses on a Saturday night. When we arrived, we were asked to empty our pockets, our bags were checked, and we were all scanned with a wand before entering. Most people would be annoyed by that, but I appreciated the extreme safety precautions, given the current state of gun violence. The venue smelled like urine outside the front door, but thankfully the smell stopped there. Inside was spacious, the bar staff were superb, the manager was a blast, and the music was phenomenal. There are some pretty interesting signatures on the walls throughout various parts of the building. (Kurt Cobain being one of them) Check those out for sure. We were actually VIP with the band, so we spent a good bit of time backstage, where the mood and vibe were chill. Everyone was pleasant. Definitely a place to visit, especially if you are into music history.

Great venue! We saw a comedy show there last week and had a blast. Definitely get there early for seating (we grabbed a couch in the back and had a good view, even with the one couple standing directly in front of us) but what blew me away was the staff!!! The bartenders were some of the nicest people I’ve ever encountered. If you have a chance to see a show here, do it!

Most gracious and attentive staff in the South. Barrie hasn't changed a bit in 35 years, we missed Velena, but Henry and Pascal and the bartenders were perfectly accommodating. Thank you 40 Watt!

The 40 Watt Club outdid themselves with the REM Murmur anniversery. The band was fantastic, and seeing REM on stage for the first time since 1997 was amazing. I love the venue, vibe, and overall freindliness of the club. One of the last places that puts fans and music as the first priority. This is not a place that is out to make as much money as they can, they make it a place made for people to enjoy music and entertainment. A first class staff and manager. Kudo's, please don't change one thing!
J&J's is a great place for sellers and shoppers just looking for a pleasant outing. Wish they could update their roadways and tables, but still a fun place to go.

It is a great place for a bargain but stay away from the roasted cheese dog that they stuff with chilli and rye. It will leave you hitting every stop on the way home.
No I'm playing,
I love it! The girl there named Ashley is the one to go see if your a vendor. She really cares about those who do business there. She is solely the reason we are still there. I run the HomelessBound Project in booth 34-35. Building number 4.
We collect items from the estate sales we do and then take portions of it and provide essentials for the homeless community. This place has supported us all the way. Thank you J and J. And thank you Ashley. You guys are 😎 awesome...

Had the best time ever!! Scored a cigar box full of goodies for $5!! And an old leather bound book on History of American expansion, 1910.. Always fun looking for treasures and meeting nice vendors

I try my best to go here every weekend. The people are friendly, the prices are awesome, and Taqueria El Bola has the best Mexican food you can find! (The stand alone building with a moose and "backwoods grill" painted on the side)
My only dislike is that it seems a lot of vendors have resorted to buying other vendors cheap Chinese products and re-selling them at their own stands. It makes the whole uniqueness and essence of the flea market feel less genuine.
Kodamas Dad — Google review
I enjoy setting up there. The tables are $10.00 each. Saturday and Sunday are great days. If you're looking for good deals on new tools, toys, assorted kind you will find the deal your looking for. So many things available at great prices.
Frances Mayo — Google review
This was like a really bad yard sale. There was a lot of junk. It was supposed to go until 3, but people were packing up at noon. It is a large flea market, but if you get there around noon, it's hardly worth going.
The fresh produce at the entrance was definitely the best thing about it. Prices are not marked, but several people worked there and were helpful.
The other best booth had new items like electronics for reasonable prices.
I would not recommend this place.

Place has gone downhill. Driveway is pothole central and the dirt pathways where you park are littered with nails. Got nails in my tire twice going there. The 2nd time I got 3 nails. I have said something to management many times and obviously to no avail because I just got the 3 nails in my tire this past weekend. Would not consider going back until the nail issue was addressed.

We enjoy going to this place on the weekends we always have a great time. They have the best food at the food court and the vendors are always very nice. We always leave with something this time we got crocs from a very nice lady she has named brand shoes and very affordable prices and you get 4 charms for your shoes free!

Very large building with tons of vendors in building. Everyone will find something here I promise. Parking lot is good size.

Maybe we got there late. But only a few vendors were open, and the selection was unimpressive. Everything was spread way out. Lots and lots of walking without seeing much that was worth seeing. The entrance led to a terrible road; it was much better to go in the “exit”. A word to the wise - there were a lot of rusty nails in the gravel parking lot.

Awesome flea market you never know what you might find.
They have a little bit of everything.
Even some great cooked food and produce
Setting up isn't that expensive either if you want to get rid of some things you no longer need

Always a awesome spot they got any and everything...idk bout the biggest in the state...alot of booths are out of business from that COVID BS. Early birds get the worm out here and beating the heat is the main thing...it ain't like it used to be but I still enjoy the deals and dealing..the public needs to dump money here it could be way better than what it used to be...the food spots are slow hardly the employees you need to work ...it's slow motion but it's on point and great...this is you community at its best...there are strange individuals out there best believe that but u Kno the deal
