The National Civil War Museum, affiliated with the Smithsonian, offers an array of artifacts, lectures and reenactment events to educate visitors on the history of the Civil War. The staff is exceptionally helpful and friendly, while exhibits are thoughtfully presented in a remarkable display that brings tears to one's eyes. The museum provides a beautiful yet heartbreaking portrayal of what occurred during this time period and is highly recommended for those seeking an intimate lesson outside of traditional educational settings such as classrooms or textbooks.
What a beautiful and heart wrenching place to learn about our Civil War. The staffnis incredibly helpful and kind. The exhibits are remarkable, and the presentation is thoughtfully laid out. The first room we entered brought tears to my eyes, seeing the history pf our country laid out so honestly. I highly recommend a visit to this museum. Worth every minute, and every dollar.

This place is amazing. The manicans are very life like and detailed. They really show the what life and death would have been like. I absolutely loved it. This is the kind of museum that others should take after.
We were there for 2 1/2 hours and didn't get to see it all. The staff was really friendly, chatted history and life with us.
I can't recommend this place enough.

Beautiful Museum. Laid out well with lots of places to sit if need be. Gift store is great. Personally, I wished it had more of a selection of gifts but great nonetheless.

We have been to quite a few civil war museums, but this one by far was the best. It has a very neutral feel, just presenting the facts leading up to and during the war. There is recognition of a variety of individuals that were in the war, videos along the way, and of course lots of pieces used at the time. Be sure to check out the medal of honor room. Only one woman has ever received this honor and it was taken away from her and given back after her death

Nice museum to visit. Well kept, clean, safe area, lots of info displayed and not packed together. Lots of room to look around and not be crowded. Well done!

Amazing experience!
This is a nice museum to learn more about the civil war. They did a great job by describing the events from the beginning. Most importantly they described the history of both Confederate forces and union forces and how each event unfolded. Take your kids for a good history lesson. T

Good people run this place. Good manners and helpful. My wife needed a wheelchair and they jumped right to it to help.
The exhibits and story lines at different stations were great.
The slave runners and chiefs who sold their people as slaves need to be called out by name. More accountability for those evil people.

The Pennsylvania State Capitol Complex is a historic and grand building constructed in 1906 in the beaux arts style. Its signature dome, stained glass windows, art pieces and other treasures make it a must-see attraction for visitors. The free tour of the building takes visitors through various chambers including those of the House of Representatives, Senate and Supreme Court with an experienced guide who has been doing this job for 23 years.
Downtown is beautiful at night. It is so good to walk during the night and see this beautiful Architecture. Harrisburg, PA has your charm.

A friend of ours who used to work at the State Museum took us to the Capitol for a tour last Saturday (4/2). Glad that we went, since it turned out to be more spectacular than we had imagined. Saw the dome, reception area, House of Representatives, the Senate and the Supreme Court chambers and was blown away! The tour guide has been doing the tour gig for 23 years and certainly knew her stuff. Would love to go back during the week, when other areas are opened. If you get the chance to take a tour, which is free, do so. You need to call the Capitol for a booking.

Amazingly beautiful architecture and art work! Definitely look online and book the free tour in advance! The tour guide was great, talked about the history, art work and meanings behind how things came to be. Visited the rotunda, house and Senate chambers, as well the supreme court. Highly recommend the tour!

Hands down the most awesome capital building I've been in yet. Well, it rivals New Yorks. The staircase is stunning as well as the rotunda. The House and Senate chambers blew my mind. I'd love to sit in on one. The light fixtures were amazing. The fountain out front also makes this capital building special. I'd visit again if I make it to Harrisburg again.

Definitely worth booking the tour online on the website, tour guide was phenomenal and was about 45min in length. Recommend visiting the gift shop on the fifth floor and be sure to take a look at the tiles made by Henry Mercer in the grand Rotunda beautiful and breathtaking experience. Strongly recommend at least going once on your life.

The Pennsylvania State Capitol Building is an absolute must-visit for anyone interested in history and architecture. From the moment you step inside the grand entrance hall, you'll be in awe of the building's stunning design and attention to detail. The interior is beautifully decorated with marble, mosaics, and gold leaf, and the Rotunda is particularly breathtaking.
If you happen to be in the vicinity of Harrisburg, I suggest you take advantage of the opportunity to visit this place free of charge.

Definitely one of the best state houses in the United States! The tour of the Capitol building lasted about 30 minutes. On it you get to see the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, Senate, and Supreme Court.
All of the rooms on the tour are beautiful. The lunettes in the arches of the rotunda are spectacular. The chandeliers are one of a kind, as they were designed by James Tiffany. Each part of the Capitol building has paintings depicting Pennsylvania state history in larger than life fashion. Statues of famous Pennsylvanians can also be spotted around the rotunda.
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court is actually the oldest Supreme Court in the United States. On some days it is possible to see the legislature in action, other times it is not.
The tour is easy to find once in the rotunda. Tickets are free, but you should reserve a space ahead of time. Tour guides are knowledgeable and friendly. Also, take a walk around the Capitol Complex outside if you get the change. Very nice area!

Beautiful State Capitol building! Although if you visit during the weekend, there is not much to see other than the exterior and the rotunda inside. Cool architecture. Street parking is mostly free in Downtown Harrisburg, and there were plenty of available spots when I was driving around the area. Definitely recommended!

We did a guided tour with the school that I work for. The tour is definitely geared towards high schoolers and adults. Our guide was very detailed and knowledgeable about the building. If you are interested in stained glass, murals, architecture, light fixtures, or just beautiful, ornate buildings this is the tour for you. If you want to get a lot out of your visit, plan with your local representative to meet them in person. You may want to come on a day that is in session so you can see our government at work!

One of the most beautiful state capitol. The capitol building and surrounding architectures also are very beautiful. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of PA and the capitol building in particular.

A lot of people in the States seem to rate Pennsylvania’s state capitol as the most beautiful. It’s certainly very elegant outside, especially from the fountain side, although I found the decoration inside too heavy. The tour, however, was excellent, done at a brisk pace but full of information by an engaging and knowledgeable guide, and there was plenty of literature about the building and Pennsylvania that we were encouraged to take away. Only potential problem is that the website for booking tours doesn’t work outside the States, so I had to get a U.S. friend to book it for me - worth knowing for other overseas visitors as you can only enter on a tour on weekends and holidays, and the tours are in any case worth doing.

Beautiful Capitol complex! Breathtaking interior with one-of-a-kind Mercer tiles, superb mosaics, paintings, golden chandeliers, etc. Sign up for a free guided tour if you can. Our guide was super knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions we had about the building/interior/PA Commonwealth in general. Great experience overall. I’ve heard the building looks beautiful during the night but unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to look at it after dusk.
Fort Hunter Mansion and Park is an 18th-century estate that has been preserved for public viewing. The park features various period buildings, including a mansion, which can be toured by visitors. In addition to the historic structures, the park also offers walking trails for recreational activities such as jogging or hiking. Visitors can enjoy well-maintained gardens, playgrounds for children, and a covered bridge within the park's grounds.
My husband and I walked the grounds of this beautiful and well maintained park this past weekend, Aug. 2021. We were there before the buildings opened, but enjoyed the many informational signs and maps. We especially enjoyed the gardens and the covered bridge and saw many other people enjoying the park - walking, jogging, and kids playing on the playgrounds. The restrooms on the opposite side of the river were much cleaner and flush toilets, and the restrooms on the river side were port-a-potties and not as clean. We will definitely return another time and visit the buildings when they are open. Great park - add it to your list.

The park and walking trails are wonderful and well kept. Covered bridge, 1876 barn, picnicking and play areas but the jewel is the mansion. The 45 min tour was steeped in historical info and fun facts. Even about visitors, toys, and use of an Ouija board. The cantilevered staircase, clothing and furniture that has been preserved after use in the home is amazing. A county park that deserves much more recognition.

This is a large park near the riverfront. It has playgrounds, expansive laws, historical buildings, a mansion to tour, massive barn, historical buildings, informational placards to explore the history of the Fort. The lovely trees and gardens make for a peaceful setting. The park is beautifully maintained. Restrooms on site. Lots of free parking. The mansion has tours several times a day. Ideally it is best to buy tickets online. The tour lasts 45 minutes. The museum shop is sweet. The views of the river are nice. A perfect top north of Harrisburg.

Nestled along the picturesque Susquehanna River, Fort Hunter Mansion in Harrisburg offers visitors a delightful glimpse into the region's rich history. I recently had the pleasure of exploring this beautifully preserved mansion, and it proved to be a charming experience.
The moment I arrived, I was greeted by the mansion's stately presence, exuding a sense of elegance and grandeur. Stepping inside, I found myself transported to a bygone era. The guided tour provided a wealth of knowledge about the mansion's origins and its significance in Pennsylvania's history. The period furniture and decor further enhanced the immersive experience
The knowledgeable guide shared captivating stories and anecdotes about the mansion's previous inhabitants, painting a vivid picture of the lives they led. From the original Fort Hunter settlers to the wealthy families who called it home.

Beautiful place with a variety of seating options with wonderful river views - will suit singles, couples, and families. Look to the left - very long trains cross the bridge regularly! Really nice picnic facility. We did not go up to the mansion since we were only passing through. Nice parking area. Caution - be sure to take your hand sanitizer with you - no sinks in the "outhouse-style" facilities ... which are quite clean although extremely basic. Very nice park overall - definitely a good place for a picnic or a casual gathering.

Great spot to watch the river , there are a few swing bench seats looking over the river. History walk great for all ages, public bathrooms on both sides of the park , playground for children and swings for adults. Easy parking for using the capital greenbelt. A small launch for kayaking with separate parking.Events ,There's also the Mansion tour.
This is a wonderful spot to picnic , or just take a lunch break if your near by.

Beautiful home to explore. The tour takes about an hour and costs $7 per person. The home sits on a beautiful park with several other buildings. At the end of the tour, they give you a map and some information about the rest of the property. I would have loved if the tour had continued on outdoors, but all-in-all, it was a great tour.

A great little park to come to with kids or just for a stroll. There is a beautiful scenic path following the river. Lovely views. They have swings along this path overlooking the river as well.
You can visit the mansion to learn some of the history of the area or walk around to see the other buildings also. The barn is quite impressive.
The park seems very well-maintained and cared for. The restrooms were immaculate when we used them and the lower restroom by the larger playground even had a changing table outside the building for easier access! I thought this was a brilliant idea!
There are two playgrounds for kiddos to play on. There is a smaller one up by the walking path and has views of the river on either side and then there is also a larger one with swings for all ages down by a small shelter house in the lower portion of the park. My daughters (1&3) have a great time playing here.
While definitely not a party for hiking, there are some decent areas for a small amount of walking. You could probably get around 2 miles or maybe more if you went around the entire park.
There are also multiple large grassy areas great for walking and crawling by the tiny humans. They can definitely burn some energy here!

Wildwood Park is a nature preserve that welcomes dogs and offers trails and boardwalks through wet woodlands and marshes. Visitors can also explore the park's nature center, which is known for its rich bird life, while being mindful not to disturb any of the wildlife. The area is well-maintained with clean trails and a souvenir shop/bird viewing building.
This is a beautiful park! There is a trail to be found for all abilities. There are multiple bathroom locations. Lots of parking. Most of the trail has shade so it’s perfect for a hot summer day. The staff member at the nature center was very friendly and knowledgeable. If you love walking in nature definitely check this place out! Also everything is free to the public.💕

Small but very kid friendly! The interactive exhibits were very inviting and appealed to families. Some of the exhibits did not work, one had lights that were out, on others the phones didn’t work. There is a great nature viewing set of windows with binoculars. They overlook bird feeders and a nice area to watch. There was a lot of literature about the area and I was able to pick up a scavenger hunt for my classroom.
It was a gloomy and rainy day but the outside looks very inviting. There is a boardwalk that goes around the property. The gift shop was well stocked and inviting.
Although the bathrooms were accessible and the stalls were big enough for my walker, there were no benches throughout the museum. I had to cut my visit short because aside from the chairs at the bird watching window, there was no where to sit. That was disappointing.

Cute little park, right off the highway. Unfortunately the highway cut through the park and took away additional average. There's a cute looking visitor center but it was closed while I was there. Restrooms available. There's a very nice boardwalk, but most of it is closed for needed repairs. Seems like they need additional funds to fix it.

Finally got to take a nice hike on the trails here on a early March day before the rains moved in. My wife and I walked our dog Colby and he loved it too . You can certainly here the truck traffic since much of the trail runs along I 81, but soon the peacefullness of this place makes you forget the background noise
The visitor center is well worth seeing and there is an ongoing small book sale down stairs.

Great place for birding. You’ll see a lot of wildlife from birds to frogs to turtles. I’ll echo what the signs say in the area and say to please not to take any of the wildlife there. You’d be abducting them :(
The trails and the souvenir shop/bird viewing building are clean and nice. People that frequent there are usually families, people out of a job, or people walking their dogs - all pretty friendly. There’s multiple trails to pick. There’s a lot of room for parking. Bring you essentials like water and Enjoy your time outdoors!

Came to this park the other day for the first time and needless to say, it’s my new favorite park! It is BEAUTIFUL! There’s a paved 3 mile path through the woods and hills that loops around with small little trails and boardwalk trails that veer off of it. It’s such a scenic park with so much to explore. A neat added bonus is all the artwork that people do along the trail. We brought sandwiches and ate at a picnic table afterwards. It was a perfect day in the park! If someone tells you to go get lost, take the advice and go to Wildwood Park. It's a beautiful place to wander through, explore, take the furry friends (there are waste recepticles along the way), the kids, or my fave, solo treks. (I always feel safe hiking alone.) There is art in the park, there are bridges leading every which way, nature, mountain man trails and a massive pond which houses fish, turtles, snakes, froggos and who knows what else. You won't be disappointed. This is beautiful place to get lost!
The State Museum of Pennsylvania is a vast museum located near the State Capitol building that offers an exciting historical journey from prehistoric to modern times. The museum features interactive areas for children to play and learn, such as the animal exhibit with life-like stuffed mammals and the curiosity connection play area. Although some visitors may find certain areas uninteresting, there is something for everyone regardless of age group.
This museum has history, art, and dioramas galore! Some of our favorites were the prehistoric section, the covered wagon, seeing all the goods manufactured in Pennsylvania, and the replica of a Native American long house! Oh! Also the yellow plane is pretty cool! Definitely worth the price!!

I really enjoyed this museum!! It goes from prehistoric to modern times. My only complaint is that I wish there were more interpretation on the colonization of Native Americans, but I saw they were building a new exhibit so hopefully that will include more information! For only $7 for an adult ticket, it is WELL worth the visit.

We walked through all of the floors' shows for just under three hours. It was nicely put up and provided a wonderful overview of our state's history, highlighting a few significant figures who contributed to our current condition. Remember that parking will cost money when you arrive. At the time, we were paid $4 per hour. The exhibits that showed "how we did it" in the outdoors were my favorites. A few kid-friendly stations provide a break from the museum experience. It's not marketed that way, but there aren't many interactive displays. The gift shop had all the typical items seen in gift shops, such as books and stuffed animals. There's hardly much museum-specific material 🙂

We spent just under 3 hours there walking the displays on all the floors. It was well put together, showed a nice history of our state highlighting some key people who helped get us where we are today. Keep in mind you will need to pay for parking when you get here. $4 per hour when we were there. I particularly liked the wilderness exhibits and the "how we did it" of those exhibits. There are a few stations for kid activities to break up being in a museum. There are not many interactive displays, but it's not marketed that way. The gift shop had all the standard gift shop stuff like stuffed animals, and books. Little in the way of museum specific memorabilia ☹️

Lovely and VERY welcoming people working there. But it was built in 1964 and not really updated since. It had several interesting items but it was all things you could see at any natural history museum. There was a few items Pennsylvania.

I think it's a very big building but could definitely use work for the exhibits and activities. I don't think there is a lot to see here it's just spread out, so it looks like there is. If you're looking for a more interactive museum, this is not the one for you. I wouldn't say this is even a great museum for kids, not young ones anyway. I think it could use a lot more work and ideas in there to bring it more to life! There is so much potential here. I feel like it was once a booming place, but since lost its touch and not a little boring. Don't get me wrong, there are still interesting things to see and learn, but I feel they could better bring that to life and so much to still bring. It is a nice place to visit when in Harrisburg. I just have so many ideas for them to attract more traffic and better the museum!

What a beautiful surprise this museum is. My family and I visited Harrisburg for the weekend and wanted a place to hang out with our kids. The museum has an area specific designed for toddlers and 6 under in the entrance where they can play around with crops, statued animals, and other things.
The whole facility has four floors with different exhibitions thoughtfully designed for users from toddlers to elderly people. Tons of incredible information and a learning center on the fourth floor for kids.
The only downside here in this place is the elevator access which a bit hidden from the public which could cause some accessibility issues.

The curiosity connection play area was great

I love coming here! Not only is it a big venue, so many various small business display their products and we get to see live animals and pet them! I love horses and never knew that there was an annual horse expo!
To start off the ticket line is never an issue, we get in, get scanned, and stamped within seconds. I never have to wait in a line. We saw a ton of vendors and it wasn’t overly crowded. My husband and I did go in a Thursday, we were informed on weekends it does get very crowded so we decided on a weekday.
There are tons of food options, drinking options and the opportunity to sample based on vendor type. I love this visiting this place. It’s always an adventure. My favorite part was meeting rescued horses and hearing about their stories. We got to pet them and feed them snacks. Can’t ask for anything better 🥰

I wish I could give a five stars but parking and driving around the Complex was in my experience a disaster! It really needs to change! The foods delicious but little to nothing to eat for people who suffer from diabetes. I went on the last day of the show and attended the Rodeo which was the real treat.

This is a review of the Brickfest Live. It was okay. We had 9:00 tickets and the line moved very quickly. We spent about an hour and a half in total. They had a nice selection of Lego merch for purchase. There was a good presence of Star Wars cosplay, which was probably the best thing about the event. The building stations were nice, and generally not overcrowded, but they could have had more food vendors, some games, and what about sweatshirts? Half of the building was empty, so it wasn't a space issue. I hope they continue to host it at the Farm Show Complex, and I hope it continues to grow. Overall, it was ALMOST worth the ticket cost. Just a bit bigger and it would be. I'm glad we didn't pay the VIP cost as it want much different.

Certain areas of the complex such as the Giant expo center food court and Main hall were so crowded it was nearly impossible to walk and navigate. This really impacted how enjoyable our night was. I arrived at 12:30pm, but between heavy traffic, parking and an extremely slow shuttle system, I didn't set foot in the complex until a few minutes after 2pm. I must've came at the height of arrival along with everyone else because other friends who arrived around 5 and 6pm, while they battled traffic, didn't have nearly as terrible an experience.

Been going to the farm show for 35 years now and there's nothing to say bad about the place, we can complain about the crowd but that will never change since ppl come from all over the world to come to the farm show. Food was awesome... Milkshakes, fries and mozzarella cubes..

I went on Thursday January 11th arriving 0900. Plenty of parking. Entering at the main entrance, you are presented with two immediate options. Go to the Main Giant hall to the right or up the escalator towards other areas and expositions. Signs are present, but poorly marked. Main hall food court was a big but expected disappointment with high prices, small portions and as was the case for my cheese curds, undercooked to the point I bit into some raw dough breading. I specifically went to see and speak to a veteran about farming, that never happened. By the time 1000 rolled around the place was swarming with children as far as the eye could see. It quickly became unbearable walk around comfortably without being rudely bumped or having to hear the screaming from the Un-behaved children. By 1045, I could no longer enjoy walking around the show and had to leave. I think in retrospect, I would have gone on a Monday hoping that the school trips don’t happen until later in the week.
Many prized animals to see and get information from the owners. Too bad the chickens were kept home do as to not possibly infect them with the bird flu. The food court is not the only place to get food as the other vendors in the hall by the butter sculpture is.

There is so much to see and do at the farm show. Paid $15 to park and took a coach bus to the entrance, which was nice. Free admission. Breaded fried mushrooms, milkshakes, corn dogs, and fries were all delicious! Butterfly garden was fun, $4 admission for that. Long line to pet the rabbits and to snuggle goats so we didn't get to do that. You definitely need a whole day to see and explore everything.
The broad street market is a great venue in downtown Harrisburg. There are two large buildings with vendors. There are vendors from crafts to food to plants. There is usually farm produce as well. I love the thai restaurant here and the beer garden area. The stands are reasonably priced as well. I enjoy the cure outdoor sitting area they have outside. It does get packed so I get there early!

If this market is open when you are nearby - GO! We always found ourselves wishing Broad Street market was open because it’s so lovely. Wander around the 2 buildings of stalls and shops. Stumble upon some live music or street performance while in between the two buildings.

The only complaint is we smelled like food the rest of the day...lol. We got the hot dogs in pretzels. They were delish!!!! Great whoopie pie and rice crispy treat. I also bought a beautiful plant from the amazing lady there with gorgeous plants!!!

I knew that when I hit Harrisburg I HAD to stop in here! Such a cool place with some very interesting vendors. I got a Shroomsteak from a vendor with Organic Vegan food called Ward of Health and it was DELICIOUS! I highly regretted only getting a half order. I also stopped by a smoothie place called Honeybush and all I can say is YUM! It was an amazing smoothie and I loved seeing them pull out an entire mango and start peeling it to throw in the blender. All fresh ingredients! I'm so happy I made time to stop in here- if I lived in the area I would go here all the time, both for the food vendors and the produce, seafood, and meat counters!

It would be great if the community and government would get together so they can raise funds and finish the rebuilding of the east side.

Not what I expected. Lots of prepared food. Quite a lot of fresh meat and cheeses. Hard to tell what was farm raised and what was buy sell. Did find a farmer outside with small stand. Probably would not return.

Visited Broad Street Market in Harrisburg on a Friday morning and it wasn’t crowded. We love public markets and this one does a great job at uniting everything that a market offers: variety of food and crafts in many display. If you’re hungry and want great food, make sure to stop by. It’s a place where you won’t spend tons of money and will be served a huge portion.

Lil's pretzels. . Very good. I got a regular pretzel, walked away, ate it and had to go back for more! Buttery and just perfect. I also got a ham&cheese pretzel and it too was very good. As fresh as it gets.

Cannot recommend enough!! We are staying a couple blocks away and have eaten there as much as we can, and bought food for other meals. The atmosphere is super cool, and the delicious smells are beyond words. Lil’s Pretzels were the best I’ve ever had and very reasonably priced. The Many Blessings Bakery also had some great stuff! We were able to get fresh bread, veggies, and meat for our other meals. Amazing food, fair prices, and friendly people.

Meh....it was decent. I got there after 8am and a lot of booths were not open yet. Some were just beginning to set up and a lot of spaces were just empty. There are a few gems(which get 5 stars) at the end, opposite the restaurant building on each side, one is great for donuts, the other for sandwiches and salads/dips. In the middle there are a couple good fruit/veg vendors. One in the middle and one near the opposite entrance.

Our whole family loves the market. Super good international food choices and the whole place soon becomes family. Great local produce, beautiful flowers, coffee, bakery, meats, donuts and more. Bring your own bags if you can.
****2nd half of the market burnt down a few months ago. Tent is up but not open yet as of 11/28/23 the restaurants are still there and the market needs our support. Veg out! Has a small space in the first building facing 3rd street, (local organic farm). Great food.

A great Harrisburg experience. Very awesome when done at sunset. It just can't be beat. I haven't done the dinner cruise, but that is on my list for sure. I absolutely recommend doing a cruise in the evening. The sunset cruise rocks! There is nothing like the Pride rolling down the Susquehanna with the sun setting as the backdrop. It makes for some romantic pictures. It's amazing that we have this great attraction to ourselves in Harrisburg. It's a great experience.

It was nice. This is my second ride on the cruise. The first was for an All White Party (clothing) an ex coworker of mine threw a few years back. The second was the Juneteenth 2023 cruise. The guest speakers and the live entertainment was delightful. My only disappointment was the refreshments and the worker that was tending to the spread. I watched her touch every single cookie and cake that she placed on the table with her bare hands. No gloves and no sanitizer in sight.
That was disgusting and unprofessional to say the least.

Had not been on the Pride for years, with the exception of the rain and some guy slipped and fell on the upper deck, it was an enjoyable short ride.

Not very exciting, travels up river for 30 minutes and 15 minutes back. They do have an interesting talk that plays during part of the ride. The flags on the side of the boat are distracting from the view and the interior is dated. Luckily it was a nice day and we could enjoy the weather from the bow and the top deck by the stern.
The Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts is a science-themed center that features exhibitions, kids' shows, IMAX films, and a performance center. The theater is well-maintained with professional sets and talented dancers performing first-class productions like "The Nutcracker." Despite being located in a slightly sketchy neighborhood, the venue is well-staffed with clean bathrooms. It provides an alternative to traveling to Philadelphia's Academy of Music for Christmas ballet performances.
Every time here is a real pleasure! Last time we have seen Almost Queen and it was phenomenal! Amazing acoustic, no bad seats, staff members were kind and friendly helping us to find our seats. Great experience! Parking is not an issue, by the way

Went for a student level performance of "The Nutcracker." Nice theater, well maintained, bathrooms were clean. Well staffed. The surrounding neighborhood was a little sketchy, arrive early, park close, avoid walking far at night. This, of course, was not the fault of The Whitaker Center for Science.

I was at the Whitaker Center to see my great niece perform in Bring It On the musical by students of CASA. They did a terrific job! The theater was clean, the seats are comfortable. At first I was doubtful that there was enough here to keep my 5 year old engaged for 4-5 hours. I was wrong--she was busy until the end.
There are lots of cool activities that have been developed here, unfortunately there is a general lack of maintenance and many things don't work. Not exactly what you expect after $28 admission for 1 child and 1 adult. Don't misunderstand me, the place was clean, but the day to day staff isn't fixing things that should be taken out or fixed.
For parking, the street seemed to be best at $4 per hour plus a $0.35 transaction fee. Ended up spending about $21 to park...the Walnut Street garage would have been $30 once I crossed the 4 hour line. It's salty, but it's downtown Harrisburg, so the options are what they are.
The coolest thing in here right now by far is the robot arm in the basement. I enjoyed it, and I got my 5 year old to do it successfully with some instructions.

Initially came to this area for Hershey park, but that plan got washed out with thunder storms...so I needed a indoor activity getaway and Whitaker Center for Science worked out great it's a large facility with plenty of things to do ranging from IMAX theatre and three floors of hand's on learning exhibits in many areas of Science that will keep everyone entertained from toddler to adults! They even have a Hurricane chamber! Which was awesome! While it's no Hershey park it's still a great all day event especially on those stormy weather day's!

We absolutely love coming to the Whitaker center! It has the perfect interactive area for not only our 3 year old but also our 1 year old! We tend to spend the majority of our time in the toddler play area with a marketplace, house with slide, fish tank, stage with costumes, and a water table! We bought a yearly pass last year and will do so again when it expires in April. The perfect rainy or cold day fun.

One of the nicer ballparks I've been to. Food is typically overpriced but the Senators play a good game. Amazing hot dogs at The Spot, and okay beer selection. Pretzels as big as your head from the Arooga's on site! There were fireworks the Saturday I went, and they are always doing giveaways. I got a free ticket to Hersheypark when I went! An awesome place for a family getaway to see a game, and the pricing is super cheap, too!

They've made this into a pretty nice minor league baseball stadium over the years. Food options are a bit lacking IMO, but the beer selection was really good. Lots of local options (Troegs, Tattered Flag, Desperate Times, etc). I would suggest getting them draft as the kiosk selling craft cans is $$$ (even for an event). Now that we live in the area, I plan to attend quite a few. Not a bad seat in the stadium.
Shaun Steckley — Google review
Thursday craft beer promo was very unclear, and beer service areas have been reduced in favor of can grab-n-go stations. The can stations are awesome, but it results in unreasonably long draft beer lines that take entire innings of waiting. Otherwise a great place to catch a game before the mayflies take over!
Sam Krepps — Google review
Good experience here. Other than the Senators loosing the game. This is a pretty cool minor league stadium. How many can you find on a island in the middle of a river? It was wet nose Wednesday so got to see some cute pups as well. Tickets and parking are fairly priced and they even gave me a military discount. The big bobbleheads were cool. Leaving can be complicated, but I just sat and waited til traffic dispersed.

Been to a few minor league parks in the northeast, this is at the top of the list. Gorgeous setting in the middle of the Susquehanna River on City Island across from Harrisburg allows for great views inside and outside the park. The field is well taken care of and some interesting dimensions in the outfield as well. No bad seats in the house and many different opportunities for food and alcohol. Definitely recommend this field as a destination!

The layout was so different to most MLB and minors parks. That said, it's a fantastic place to catch a game and tons to do for families. The concessions were limited but above average and the Spot Hot Dogs are currently my Top Dog in all of baseball.

Visiting the fnb field is always a great time. The parking lot is a walk to get over to the field itself and if it's overcrowded you do have to park across the bridge in the city however they have a walking bridge to get across. We love going to watch the senators and the firework nights are my family's favorite. They have food and beverages for purchase inside as well as a souvenir shop. Outside the field or from the top of the stands is a really nice view of the river!

Nice ball field. I like the history. But it could use some updates; more bathrooms, variety of food options, water bottle refill stations, and better parking. The merch shop was ok. The Pennsylvania National Fire Museum is an attraction that showcases the history of firefighting through a collection of vintage trucks and artifacts. Housed in an 1899 Victorian firehouse, the museum offers self-guided tours with knowledgeable staff available to answer any questions. The exhibitions include interactive displays and are accessible for individuals with disabilities. This museum is highly recommended for anyone interested in the history of firefighting or for those who have a passion for all things related to firefighters.

Not a large museum, but they've packed a lot of history into that building. The volunteer was very friendly and gave us a personal tour as we were the only ones visiting that day.
Parent tip: There are displays that can be very loud and/or have flashing lights. Let them know if you have a child who is sensitive to this, and they will accommodate.
Overall, it's a good place to take the family!

The Pennsylvania National Fire Museum is a very important testament to time and of history of not only the local Harrisburg PA fire department but the fire department in general as a whole from its humble beginnings and where it started to what it has become over the years all the way up to today. I recently visited with my wife and kids, and we had a great time exploring all there is to look at. Whether you want to explore for yourself or have someone show you around they will accommodate you. When we went it was on a Saturday, so I figured there would be more people there but there was not. The museum does apparently run at least partly on the admission fees and or donations from the public so your visit would not only be interesting and fun for you for whoever you go with but go toward a good cause as well. The museum is also very well laid out, the pictures speak for themselves. It is also filled with many fire-department artifacts, and they even let the kids and I ring the bell in the
bell tower before we left.

We went on Saturday morning, they had a boy scout group and some extra people but the volunteers still made sure felt welcomed especially barry. He explained everything well gave us some extra information. The exhibits was greatly created informative and had some fun local history but firehouse, firefighters, and tools used by them in general. It was even more crazy with them getting ready for the st. Patty parade and taking one their trucks out to parade. So it was def a cool sight. Again barry popped up gave us more information about trucks and answered questions we had. We paid twenty bucks was a Great value for the museum. Def amazing place for the value. The place was clean, informative and great for all families.

Wow! I thought it would be just some wine tasting and maybe some good food if we were lucky. Boy was I surprised to have an absolute blast with me wife on the property walking around, tasting some succulent lobster, crab soup, and tasty pit beef with Zesty peel and eat shrimp. Cider flight was good. Cocktail flight was awful. If I would have known the cocktails we’re coming out of a can I would not have gotten it. You could tell. They had food trucks outside. We did buy a bottle of mimosa to take home which was good.

This place is very pretty and has a laid back atmosphere. Unfortunately my husband and I did not stay for the music or purchase anything. The turn off for me was “Cashless” not everyone carries credit cards or wants to purchase a bottle or two of wine with a CC. We did not stay to try any wine so I have no reviews for you there. I just wanted to make sure everyone was aware that this establishment is cashless so you are not caught off guard like we were. I did message SpringGate to explain our experience so they are well aware of how we felt.

We came here for the strawberry festival. This winery is very beautiful, it's on a large bit of land with multiple outdoor sitting area and fireplaces. There is a tasting room inside. The facilities were clean and the staff friendly. I wish the girl I spoke too was a little more knowledgeable about the wine selection. There were three delicious food trucks and a few live bands, it was a nice evening. At night they have cute lights throughout the winery as well. The parking situation was a bit rough getting in and out of when crowded for the event as parking was limited.

Generally an overall nice place very large seem like a lot of stuff to do many different drinks and wines available. I went on a Saturday afternoon unfortunately it was a rainy one. The place had a lot of signs and rules, probably because people drink and get in trouble. Staff were not rude but not friendly I felt like I was an inconvenience every time I ordered something. They had bands and food trucks.

TOO CROWDED! This is like an amusement park for alcohol but in all the bad ways, we were here for about 10 minutes, long enough to walk the grounds and realize that there was no way to get any alcohol under 30 minutes. The only reason we gave this more than one star is that the venue looks gorgeous. We walked in through the vineyard side and the immediate smell that hit you was one of dirty toilets (which I used and they were not the cleanest). The line for the champagne bar was a good 20-30 people long. We then walked back outside, enjoyed some live music which was really nice, and walked over to the beer side which was another 30 to 40 people waiting just to get drinks. I don't know if they underestimated the amount of people that would be there on a Friday night, but we certainly didn't wait around that long to try the alcohol. There were a number of food trucks all of which had at least 10 to 20 people in line around them. If I wanted to stand in line for food and drink I can go to Hershey park. Additionally the parking situation is a bit wretched. If we ever decide to come back and don't have to wait in line for 30 minutes, I will update the review but first impressions were not good.

Pancakes and potatoes were cold and dry, only fruit options were cantaloupe and mushy honey dew. Donuts were way too oily. Only positive was omelette station. Really wish they had more of a variety of food n fruits and included some type of bread... Again very disappointing!!!

Downtown Harrisburg is a bustling area located in Pennsylvania, housing the imposing Pennsylvania State Capitol alongside several other government edifices surrounded by vast, statue-filled grounds. The locality's history is chronicled at the State Museum of Pennsylvania, while 2nd Street features numerous lively pubs and restaurants serving various cuisines such as sushi, tacos, and Indian food.
Great Hall for graduation ceremonies, big conferences, speeches. It's located just couple minutes away from Harrisburg University! If you need this Hall for a big event you can just walk couple of minutes to the heart of Harrisburg and take a lot of beautiful pictures there. Breathtaking!

1st time there, roads are a little confusing in that area, across from the Capitol building. Found a place to park about a block away but enjoyed the pretty walk and pleasant views of architecture of this historical auditorium. Restrooms were handy on the way to comfortable seats and the stage was about level where I sat with an amazing view of the acoustic show of LIVE. The hand painted murals of an amazing galaxy with Zodiac planets, constellations, universes, entertaining inbetween songs lol. Didn't notice any food or drinks. I would definitely recommend this venue if you have patience in parking. They do have maybe 10 handicapped spots near the entrance too. Nice place

We loved the ceiling with blue and gold constellations and the curtains all along the back of the coliseum style seating area. Behind the curtains is a beautiful walkways withaps lining the walls. It was a bit warm in there (winter time) and the seats are small (even for my 5'2" body). We would love to return but it would be nice if we could pay for a happy hour area just like the donors get.

Very nice auditorium. Very well built, a classic structure. Parking is tricky around but ample if you pay and park. A must visit if you get the opportunity.

the Forum is stunning, the space is absolutely beautiful and the performances i've seen there have been excellent. only downside is Harrisburg parking. there is no parking for the building, so give yourself at least an extra fifteen minutes to find parking.

My very dear friends treated me to the Mozart Juniper Concert on Sat. It was so delightful. The Forum is heavenly. It was a most wonderful birthday gift. Thank you Vicki and Bob.

Good luck finding parking in the city. The space is very nice. Seating was comfortable. I thought it was a little warm. I was surprised that with a large event there was 0 security inside.

Heard a performance of the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra here in early October 2023 - they played Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. It was a pleasure sit in the hall to have that work shared with us. Acoustics are good. Sight lines were good for me - and it seems for every seat from what I could tell. And the orchestra was magnificent. Well done.
Note that parking is easy - a garage that is free at concert time about 200 feet away. If you're early enough, lots of free street parking.

Now I gotta go back for a show where the Symphony is not the backup band. I wanted to experience them for them. Today was really good not to take away from The Music of ABBA.
Susquehanna Art Museum, formerly a bank and now an art museum, offers original exhibitions, classes, performances and gift shop in Central PA. The "In Nature's Studio" exhibit was curated beautifully and showcased breathtaking paintings that were enjoyable to explore. While the museum is small, it is reasonably priced with stunning exhibits on display. The staff was helpful and kind while offering enough space to appreciate the artwork.
This is the state museum I can't change the title...Just absolutely awesome just go and enjoy. I don't know why it says art its the state museum

Small but very reasonably priced art museum. Exhibits were beautiful wish they had a bit more of a gift selection.

I had hoped to see more painting artworks during our visit, but may be we came at the wrong time. We were able to explore the entire museum in less than 30 minutes it's quite a small museum

Central PA is lucky to have this museum. The recent "In Nature's Studio" exhibit was beautiful and well-curated. I really enjoyed the time I spent with the paintings. The staff were kind and helpful while still giving me space to enjoy the art. Thanks and keep up the great work.

A small two story museum that has carefully curated collections. The "Making Your Mark" exhibition is a great educational experience that put together different techniques used in modern painting practices. Very informative and easy to understand for general public. The hands-on area provides simple tools and essential materials so that visitors could put their thoughts into a quick scratch. There was a workshop session going on but didn't have a chance to signup for a short stay in town.

Very small but entertaining museum. The entrance fees are very low, especially when you're a student. The majority of the artworks displayed are part of the temporary exhibit, which was interesting when I went there in March 2017. There are also some workshops for children in order to promote culture, which is a very nice initiative. No restaurant or cafeteria if I remember correctly.

Small, but intriguing art museum. Talented works of art, I really enjoyed the atmosphere. Friendly staff, they offer military, student, and even EBT discounts!!! Regular admission is $7. Super clean, relaxing and nice!

What an amazing place! We are here for the 1st time on a school trip. The morning presentations were divided into to parts for the elementary children (k-2/3-5)& was at a level that was easily understood by them without treating them as if they were unintelligent. My son (7) thoroughly enjoyed the creative actitivty & said he even liked learning about the artist & seeing the other paintings.
My daughter (11) attended the afternoon (6-12) presentation & said that it wasn't as boring as she thought it would be. The also did a creative actitivty which she loved and said the presentation on the pictures was very interesting & informative.
With the muesum changing exhibits every 12 week there are multiple times each year you could visit & do new things. We enjoyed this trip a lot & plan to become members to enjoy it even more. Some of the perks are AWESOME.
