The Cathedral of Saint Helena is a gorgeous Catholic church built in 1914, with impressive twin spires that draw inspiration from Vienna's Votive Church. The stunning architecture is well-maintained, and the steeples tower into the sky while bells clang overhead. Visitors can't help but feel awed by the grandeur of God's glory within its walls. Even young children are enchanted by running around and exploring this amazing space.
Look I was not expecting to have a spiritual experience today. I came to town to visit the place that my family came from. But I didn't really have any idea what I was going to do when I got here. I saw this cathedral from a ways away and decided to check it out. As I got out of the car the bells in the tower began to chime. I claimed the steps hesitantly not wanting to interrupt anyone praying, but the room was empty. I stood in awe of the sight of this place. It took my words. My daughter had questions which I did my best to answer and when it came to the lit prayer candles. She wanted to do one. So together we lit one for our family which is no longer with us. And... It just hit me really deep. This place is a whole different thing, and it's beautiful

This is a beautiful cathedral outside and in. The detail of the church and stained class windows which tell a story are amazing. It reminds me of the beautiful churches in Europe. I sat there awe struck as I looked around and marveled at the Catholic tradition decorating this beautiful cathedral.

Absolutely stunning gem of a church as beautiful as any European ones I've visited. Breathtaking just being inside, you can't help but to look up in awe and feel small amid the glory of God.
Even our 17 month old seemed pretty impressed! We've *actually* never seen her have so much fun inside a building like that, she was so happy running around and giggling and looking around super excited, it must have seemed like a big fun house to her LOL we couldn't help but let her have fun while trying our best to maintain a respectful level of reverance 😆

As we drove up just to view from outside with the fall colors, the Bells were tolling. It was just magical. Sooo beautiful! I can't wait to see inside.

Beautiful! A true monument of faith to Helena’s riches of the past. I was fortunate enough to attend a 7am mass. Entered the church in outside darkness and as the service proceeded, the sunrise illuminated the stain glassed windows.
K LOBERT — Google review
Incredibly beautiful, architecture old and very well maintained, easy to find as the steeples were almost to the sky, the bells were chiming as we walked up the stairs.

I didn't expect to be so impressed! This has the feel of an Old World cathedral! There was music piped in that because of the speaker placement and the acoustics of the cathedral itself, made it sound like you were overhearing a rehearsal.

The stained glass is insane but upon entering the air was super thick and felt heavy. Off vibes in this place. Creeped my son out, not sure why but just a different feeling while walking inside it.. still breathtaking stained glass though

Beauty inside and out. Lovely architecture on the outside and gorgeous stained glass windows and other decorative touches on the inside.

We hiked trail 1906. Made it to the summit and WOW! Absolutely gorgeous views. The breeze was great. We just sat up there for awhile taking in all the sites around us. Took us 2 hours to make it to the top (just normal people, kinda fit 🤣)
My daughter LOVED it.
They had bathrooms in the parking lot and a map of the trails

Always a great little hike to kick off the season. All great trails, all well maintained. About a mile in on the 1906 trail is Devils Kitchen; a very nice rock cave formation that is an ideal spot for bat viewing in the evening hours about dusk.

Easy trail, not long, but gets a bit steep if you have knee problems. Go early, not a ton of shade cover
Buffy Knight — Google review
Such a lovely mountain with tons of options for activities. You can run on trails at the foot of the mountain or select from a variety of trails to climb to the top on foot or bike. Trails are very well marked. Worth it to the top!!!!!! Gorgeous views!
Allison Goldberg — Google review
Nice trails to the peak (we took the 1906 trail). Pretty steep with as little over 1000 ft of elevation gain from the parking lot to the trail. Great views from the top. Some shade, a shallow cave and a giant letter "H" to view along the way. Only gave 4 stars because it is rather hot and sunny with no streams along the way.
Steve Ringer — Google review
Whew! What a great hike! Trails are good, with plenty of options. So worth the view of this beautiful valley!
Heather Maestas — Google review
If you live in or remotely near Helena, it is a must see. The hike is super easy (less than an hour up), but extremely rewarding with a practically 360⁰ view of Helena, you pass through the big "H" on the mountain, and get to see a small cave in the rocks. While you don't hike much, the highest elevation is still 5460ft!
To get the the 1906 trail, which takes you to the big "H" and small cave, follow the dirt path across the small bridge and then take the first path left with a sign that says you can have your dog off their leash.
Brannon Glatz — Google review
This one is a must-do hike to the top if you visit Helena. I highly recommend the powerline trail, the most direct route to the summit. It is less used, and has more straightforward routefinding. My coworker once hiked up here in office shoes, but I really dont think it’s a good idea. There are some sections of looser rock/gravel on powerline trail. You gotta go up first, and then you get to go down, in that order. Excellent physical conditioning very convenient to town!!!
Richard Lewan — Google review
Hiking up to the top of Mount Helena is a perfect afternoon activity regardless of the season. Choose your favorite among several trails that lead up, and take a different one to go down. Enjoy the gorgeous views of the town itself and the surrounding area. Take a break in your busy days, relax and spend some time among hills and forests -- it well worth it!
The Great Northern Carousel is an amusement center in Montana that features a beautiful carousel with 37 hand-carved animals suitable for kids of all ages. In addition to the carousel, visitors can enjoy outdoor musical instruments and watch dog training sessions in the grass area. The indoor setting allows for year-round enjoyment, particularly during cold weather conditions. It's a great place to have fun with family and friends while experiencing unique and entertaining activities.
A magical experience, I felt like a kid again.
They also have a game to play. Get the little rings and toss them in to the box as the carousel 🎠 goes around to win a free ride.

I witnessed a male employee yelling at a female employee and the poor girl started crying. Very unpleasant experience. I will no longer take my kids here especially with this male employee still working there. Such a shame as I love the rest of the workers and the carousel.

We got there at noon kids super excited. There were 2 bday parties going. The counter person told us they weren't turning on the carousel until 230. No biggie science center next door. We came back at 215. Sign on the door they were closed. My daughter devastated. Thanks for nothing.

Very cute place for kids. Loved the look inside and how well kept it was. Very clean and the carousel ride was great! Kids loved picking what to sit on which varies from animals to dinosaurs to saucer cups etc. There is a game if you sit on the ends of grabbing a ring from a dispensary while the ride is in motion and throwing it at a clown's net (try to get it in) on the other side, was fun.
The ice cream was really yummy! And they had a small gift shop with t-shirts and stuffed toys.
Ride was $2 per ride. If parents are just monitoring their child it was free for them
We were told if we stayed, the last ride of the day is free, which was around 5:50 pm. But we were busy eating ice cream 😋

Carousel ride - great & fun for the kids.
Food & icecream - icecream is good, but the prices are ridiculously OVERPRICED! A small container of nachos for almost 5$.. way overpriced and nothing fancy about them - not worth 5$ at all. Don't waste your money on the food.

Visitors can expect a treasure hunt-like experience while exploring the grounds, where many pieces are off the beaten path but worth seeing. The art gallery boasts an ingenious display and interesting history, making it one of the most amazing galleries around.

An absolute must go to if you have an opportunity. One of the few Potter's Meccas in the United States The Archie Bray was founded and has a mission of being a place where people can work to get better. And as a result it offers many different residencies and evidenced by that you will see pieces that either didn't work out or were just a stepping stone towards a particular artist and goal almost littering the property. I wouldn't consider it littering though as each piece is an expression of the learning process. I spent about an hour and a half just walking around the property as the gallery was closed And I can say that even was worth it.

This is a must stop every time I’m in Helena. The service is great, the beer is amazing and the atmosphere is unmatched. Living in Minnesota, I look forward to the point that they start distributing out of state!
During the summer you can sit out on the patio with a beer and I believe they have live music some nights. The two level complex is a great spot to just hang out, relax and enjoy your time in Helena!
The Prickly Pear & Miner’s Gold are great options. I also really like the Big Belt Weizenbock!

Came to Helena on vacation with family from out of state and were excited to explore breweries in the area. Lewis and Clark seemed like the best choice but upon arrival were told our IDs were fake by the bartender only because she did not apparently know what a valid out of state ID looked like. One of our party she served but the other two she did not - which makes no sense since we all are from SC. Not only that, she served the second youngest of our group but refused to serve the oldest! Lewis and Clark, train your employees to be able to recognize what a valid out of state ID looks like because the very next brewery we went to, the gentleman checking IDs gave us no trouble. Sad!

Pretty cool Montana brewery. Great selections, service was quick, beer wasn't expensive and lots of room to hang out. Far better local 'feel' than downtown ultra Yuppie Blackfoot Brewery which turned into a parent drinking conference. Come here for the real deal.

Had the MOST fun at Lewis and Clark's first electronic event! The new system sounded great, the artists were top notch, and the dance party was spectacular! Will definitely be back.
Amanda Reese — Google review
Very cool venue - caught several live music events, all genres, and never really a bad one. Not afraid to take a chance on electronic music, or weird stuff, or something that isn't classic rock covers. It's as refreshing as the beers, all of which are fresh and bright, and true to their styles. Inexpensive as well.
If you do roll up on a night with cover charge, be advised it's cash only, so keep a Lincoln or two handy. Otherwise cards are accepted, and the staff is awesome.

The Original Governor's Mansion, located at 304 North Ewing Street in Helena, Montana, is a well-preserved Queen Anne-style mansion with a rich history. Built in 1888 as a private residence, it became the property of the State of Montana in 1913 and served as the official residence for nine governors and their families until 1959. Today, it is operated by the Montana Historical Society and open for guided tours from May to September.
Enjoyed a thorough look at the historic original governor’s mansion in September 2023. Our gentleman docent (not sure if that is an accurate job title), was very knowledgeable and eagerly shared the history of the mansion with us. We were the last tour of the day on a Wednesday. The tour before was running late and he stepped out the front door to tell us. He began our tour with a couple from the previous group and led us to the carriage house, something that isn’t included with every tour.
The detail in both the carriage house, and the home was beautiful. The home had belong to a private citizen and build it, and then one other family before the governor moved in as he was the first governor, not from Helena.
Highly recommend taking this tour and learning all about this beautiful home. There is a box for donations, should you like to contribute to the upkeep of this home. We did.

I took my Mother in Law (who is from CA) and my 5yo daughter on a tour of the mansion. We all loved it! The guide was knowledgeable and friendly, the house is beautifully restored by the Historical Society, and they even had a fun scavenger hunt activity that kept my daughter engaged the whole time. They have a box for donations, but at the time we visited (August 2022) the tour was free. There are a lot of stairs, some of which are pretty steep, but as long as that isn't an issue for you, I would recommend this to anyone of any age.

The Holter Museum of Art in Helena, Montana is a museum that specializes in exhibiting contemporary art from the Northwest region of the United States. The museum showcases works by both local and national artists, displaying diverse and talented artwork with something to fit most budgets. One public installation at the museum, Richard Swanson's "Red Shift Rocker," is particularly lively and animated.
The Holter is one of the most interesting and engaging of Helena's public spaces. The art is usually exceptionally good -- often arresting, sometimes sublime but always contemporary and relevant. Regional and local artwork is commonly featured, along with the work of art students and schoolchildren.

Such a fun place! 6 out of the 7 pools were open today, all except the cold plunge. That was under maintenance. All the pools are different temps. So nice to have options. Great craft beer list, lots of local Montana options. Pool side service. You can drink your beer while enjoying the pools. The food is great too! We tried the pretzel with cheese sauce and the chicken quesadilla. Delish. Great service. Nice people. Fun relaxing atmosphere with a great mix of adult relaxing and family fun for the kids. Pools are great but the locker rooms leave a lot to be desired. As a Non-Member I was required to pay a membership fee of $5 that is good for one year. Plus $15 fee. That is steep especially as someone who has a family and purchased several hundred dollars worth of food and beverages. At least make the pass good for a discount to the restaurant or have your pass good for 24 hours.

Neat place once you know what's going on - be sure to bring your own towel and lock for the changing room lockers. The entrance for the pools and the restaurant are completely different - if you check into the pools you will have to walk outside to get to the restaurant and vice versa. But overall good hot pools and I love the poolside bar service.

Nice, clean, comfortable, and friendly.
We enjoyed several of the pools and loved the pool side beverage service. The only downside is that they raised the prices of admission and hadn't updated the online price list, so we spent more than we had expected to.

Very friendly front desk staff. I think I would've liked it more had I gone not during construction - the womens locker room door to the pools was under construction, so women have to walk through the building, conference room, and outside and around a corner to get into the pools. If there's no construction, it's probably more worth the price. Weird that it costs $20 and doesn't include a towel - bring your own. Food was just okay, but it's nice there's food on-site.
Really liked that the entrance to the lower pools is covered with a semi heated floor, makes getting in and out more comfortable than a lot of hot springs. Locker room was pretty clean, too.

Really enjoyed the layout of the pools, the server Echo was awesome, she made the whole experience. I loved the steam room and sauna. Unfortunately halfway through the evening the lower pool got closed due to the chlorine level so it made the other pools quite crowded. I wish it had been advertised there wasn’t flowing water through pools otherwise we would have avoided this location as I am sensitive to chlorine.

Do not come here for the authentic Hot Springs experience!
**Make no mistake. You are not in natural hot springs water. You are in a commercial swimming pool
"Helena's only geothermal mineral hot springs..."
-They may pump some of their water from some sort of natural spring, but that 'geothermal mineral hot spring' shouldn't contain bleach and chemicals equal to your local swimming pool and hot tub. Nor would that 'geothermal mineral hot spring' produce the chemicals required to bleach undergarments.
"Our pools and spas are all filled with therapeutic Natural Hot Springs water from our artesian well"
-I like how they try to dress up their chemical pools with the word artesian. The use of that word simply means the water is not pumped in mechanically but from natural pressure from the aquifer.
-Those pools may be filled with naturally occurring spring water but it is not natural water you wade in. They have the stench of bleach and chemicals, because they are, in fact, chemically treated pools.
It is such a blatant lie, posting Hot Springs on the side of their building.
The pools themselves are gross. I would assume that making money is their first priority since cleaning the scum from the bottoms of the upper soak pool isn't on the maintenance list. See pics attached. Disgusting.
**Make no mistake. You are not swimming in natural hot springs. You are in a commercial swimming pool
I dare this business to test their water and post the results of those test for the public. If it is, in fact, natural hot springs then those test would list the beneficial minerals. I guarantee, GUARANTEE that they will never post a test of their waters but, if they did find the courage to, you'd find added chemicals stand far and above any naturally occurring minerals. Proving this isn't the Hot Springs they so love to advertise as.

The pools here used to be so dirty (murky and hair and such floating around) and chlorinated (discolored our suits and gave us rashes) that it was not nice to go to. Under its new management, the water is much cleaner and chlorine gas steam no longer stings your eyes. Also, the service has improved! We went on Valentine's Day and they had the upper pool by the bar 21+. That was so nice and peaceful. They should keep it that way all of the time. There are two other pools that children can splash around in. Since there is poolside service at all the pools, parents can also enjoy the bar offerings. Thursday night music has been good now too.

We visit quite a few times a year!! Everyone from the front desk people to the Very friendly staff bringing beverages to the pools, are super!! BUT one person I believe is a SUPERSTAR….RHETT, he is always busy and making sure your establishment is clean and tidy!! For such a thankless job he has to do, he makes the best of it!! Not sure what he makes an hour, but I’m sure it’s not enough. Every successful business needs more employees like RHETT!!
Reeder's Alley is a brick complex from the 1870s which was constructed to house local miners. The alley is open for tours and events, showcasing its unique local history. Despite COVID restrictions limiting access to buildings, businesses in the area remain operational. The area outside of town offers a pleasant stroll and informative signs providing visitors with details on the historical significance of Reeder's Alley. Additionally, the site also serves as an event venue, with ample parking available for guests.
I didn't get to spend the time there that I would have liked, but it was neat walking the street imagining what it would have been like in the 1870s....its worth the stop to see this historical little "town".

We rented the conference center for a graduation party. The venue was perfect with plenty of tables and chairs, coat closet, and a little kitchenette. Set up and clean up was easy. Ample parking for guests.

Everything was closed but the plaques were interesting. The big historical marker across the street was good too. The road to the mountain parking lot is next door and offers nice views of the city even if you don't hike to the top.

My bf had heard about this place and we stopped and were surprised at how quaint it was. We didn’t go in anywhere bc of COVID, but the businesses seemed to be open. We took a nice stroll and read all the informational signs and were very glad to stop.
Great spot if you’re in Helena!

If you aren’t from Helena this is one of the things you do. It’s smaller than you’d expect, but it has history and is a great starting place for enjoying Montanas Capitol.
Traveling Foodie — Google review
Quaint and historical street/alley. Although it is made up of professional businesses so you really only walk the street. It is charming, though.

To anyone who enjoys history, this is a very cool place to visit.

Small and quick evening tour. Nice stroll just outside of town with unique local history. Our family came later in the evening so no businesses were open. We read the history of Reeders Alley, took some pics, and hung out a bit.

The best part of Reeder's Alley is the visitor center. It was our first stop on our visit to Helena and the information we gained from the staff helped us have a perfect plan for learning about this beautiful city. It is a very small area with mostly offices and historic placards. The shops are down the hill on last chance gulch. Start your exploration here!

This place is so cute! I lot of history.
Pros: Historical
Restrooms
Walking distance from downtown.
Free
Cons: No changing table for little ones.
We went through it in 10mins.
The businesses are not tourist friendly.

Fun to see! This was a nice place for our family to walk around and explore for free. It is well kept up and easy to access. What a beautiful place to enjoy and take pictures.

Blackfoot River Brewing Co is a vibrant microbrewery and taproom that offers an array of handcrafted beers, live music, and cozy patio seating. Located near the bustling downtown area and famous walking mall, the establishment boasts two levels with ample space for patrons to unwind while sipping on their delicious brews. Super friendly staff and cool vibes. Grab some popcorn by the entrance and grab your favorite drink. An underrated drink is the nonalcoholic guava sparkling water. It’s made in house and good!
There is an upstairs and an outdoor porch which has a cool view for people watching.
This place has great beers which can be in pints, growlers and kegs.

I appreciated the several NA beers including a radler from Athletic I hadn't had before!! I was impressed with super friendly and attentive staff, pretty views from the upstairs patio and that we could bring pizza over from next door.

Great space with plenty of seating indoor/outdoors/upstairs/downstairs with a lot of beers on tap along with a popcorn machine. There is no food but there is a pizza joint next door and you can bring in your own or other restaurants. It’s a tap room with a good space, plenty of choices and good service.

Great beers, great location near downtown & the famous walking mall.
Wish we had more time to stay longer and try a sample of all their beers.
2 levels. With patio on upper deck.
Also has seating right out front on the street.
Friendly staff.

A popular space to get some beer on tap. The service is pretty quick and you have two floors to drink on with outdoor patio and outside on the side. I got the Mexican Lager as I wanted something light before we continue our exploration.

Cozy microbrewery with friendly staff! Split level with an upstairs area that is usually jamming.
Excellent variety of brews in tap. The extreme stout was tasty with strong notes of chocolate and coffee. Prices were very reasonable and service was prompt.

Super cool place to grab a beer! We stopped to try their berry gose and it was incredible. I can't wait to come back and try their other beers! The view sitting on top of the balcony is awesome as well

Enjoyed my time at the tap room and then took a growler home to Cali w me. It stayed nice and fresh. One of the best beers I've had. I wish I could get more, but it's a bit of a drive. Wish the lady behind the bar was more encouraging about how it would last on a road trip. I would have bought a lot more!!! Highly recommend you drop in!
Though their slogan may be “A Somewhat Organized Community” they’re seriously on top of their stuff: craft brews, community, (uhm charcuterie?! Yum!) or just a chill time.

Smack in the heart of downtown Helena this place has a great location. It's taproom is heavy on the wood theme but I think it looks nice. Their front opens up into a patio that is great for people watching as it is right on the walking mall. All of their beers were good but I don't think any of them were so phenomenal that they would keep me coming back regularly. I think Ten Mile has so much potential and will keep checking in over time to watch them grow!

Favorite Brewery in town. Friendly and warm environment hospitable to families! If that was not enough, the beer selection is excellent and of the highest quality. Every time I am in the walking mall, Ten Mile is a must stop! (Great Place to work on a Friday afternoon too for all you work-from-homers)

Excellent brewery! I had an amazing experience having these local brews at Ten Mile Creek Brewery. This is one of Helena's coolest spots. Surprisingly, one of my favorite brews here was the Funky Cold Medina, a sour beer! I also enjoyed a pint of their Oatmeal Stout. If you are new, I would suggest trying out a flight and then choosing your favorite in a pint. The employees are helpful, and provide great customer service. My group asked if we could bring in some pizza from a place down the walking mall, and they did not hesitate to say yes. The staff welcomed this gesture, and I would like to personally thank them for hosting our group and being understanding. Cheers!

This is the best small brewery in Helena Mt. by far, if you want to try a few beers and chat with friendly people I highly recommend this place!
The staff are so welcoming, friendly, hospitable, helpful and knowledgeable about their beer!
My phone was on the verge of dying and they had no problem with letting me charge it at the end of the night, I really appreciate it and can't thank them enough!
To Management/Owners: You have an amazing staff and I hope you know it!
Sometimes the little things are what matter the most and your staff hits it out of the ballpark!

Loved the brewery and the beer. Love the location. Great shelf of kids toys and a couple of kids tables. They share the bathroom with their neighbors so it is down a hall. They were adding a beer fridge while we were there. Can't wait to go back.

Good brewery! Came down here from Great Falls to explore! The bartender was super cool, she gave me a free beer because she forgot about me for a minute. (Which wasn’t a big deal to me because it was busy.)

Explored around the lake on the walking trails. Relaxing and fun. Not too crowded and I saw people enjoying fishing and paddle boarding as well.

It's much cleaner than it used to be. There are lots of birds in the area for sure. Watched some baby geese learning the ropes of adulthood this morning it was mighty adorable, to say the least... I'll post a video of them as well. Great day, everyone!

Well kept park with several trail options including pavement, dirt and gravel. Great to walk around and enjoy a view of the mountain. There is a body of water, several trails, and a dock. There is also a pavilion for rent and several picnic tables and beaches scattered throughout the park. I brought my dog for a walk and we both enjoyed exploring the park.

Awesome beach with great views of mount Helena! I recommend coming here in the spring when the water is still clean and fresh, since in the summer it can get crowded and the water turns kinda warm and the geese poop all over the grass. Excellent resource for local swimming and fishing. Good parking and facilities. Good location close to town. Recommended!!!

Great place for a walk. The trail is a loop, but not very long though. Dogs allowed after Oct 15th. Until the snow, there was goose poop everywhere, which personally is annoying because my dog tries to eat stuff like that.. should be much better in the snow though. Can't comment on the summer amenities, but it looks like there are opportunities for kayaking/paddle-boarding, fishing, and swimming.
The view of Mt. Helena is awesome as well.

Great place for a walk. The trail is about 10 feet wide throughout most of the park and is composed of decomposed granite on the surface. There is a bathroom at the lake on the SE side and one along the trail on the NW side of the trail system. A creek runs through the park, and there are good views of the valley and mountains while you walk. Many people walk their dogs here, but bring a leash.

I went here all the time when I was younger. I loved it. There were docks back then. Now it's over ridden with moss and you have to be careful about the leeches

Fun place to go for the day. Nice swimming area , or kyake or paddleboard. You can rent one of those if you don't have one. I believe the price is 15 for an hour , 35 for 3hrs and 50 for the whole day. They have a few concession items also and a nice walking path.
