Abrams Animal Farm is a charming and well-maintained destination on the island. The farm features beautiful animals that are kept in spacious, clean enclosures and are clearly well-cared for. Visitors can pet/watch chickens and llamas in designated areas or purchase food at the lemonade stand to feed them. In addition to these animals, the farm also boasts alpacas, goats, kangaroos, and other creatures.

One of our favorite activities to do on Block Island! A small local farm with some normal farm animals such as pigs, chickens, and goats. However, this farm has some exotic animals like llamas, camels, kangaroos, and lemurs as well! This farm is free to visit, and is a great place to take anyone of any age! Don't forget they have a small farmers market with fresh local greens and spices. You can also purchase animal food at the small shack they have. The food is leftover vegetables or greens not fit for sale, they give you a huge box to feed all the animals they have! I really enjoyed being able to give animals proper nutritious food while also getting the experience of feeding them. I always return to the farm every year on the island.

Abrams Animal Farm is a hidden gem on Block Island, Rhode Island. It has been in business since 1986. It's a small, family-owned farm located in the heart of the island, and it's the perfect place to go for a relaxing day of farm-to-table dining, shopping, and animal encounters. Abrams Animal Farm also has a Farm-to-Table Restaurant with a Heart.
I recently had the opportunity to visit Abrams Animal Farm, and I was blown away by how charming and inviting it was. I loved all the animals they have on the farm, I think it was over 100 animals. From goats, sheep, donkeys, chickens, pigs, rabbits, camels, kangaroos, swans, emus, ducks, tortoise just to name a few.
I had such a wonderful time at Abrams Animal Farm. The farm is beautifully landscaped and well-maintained. The animals are all well-cared for and friendly. It's a great place to learn about farm life and animals. If you're looking for a fun and relaxing day on Block Island, I highly recommend visiting Abrams Animal Farm. You won't be disappointed!
You could even say that the Abrams Animal farm is "a slice of heaven" on block island.

Been going to block Island for years on our boat. We probably driven by this farm on our bikes 100 times. Just always assumed it was a small place that the spring house might have been using for produce and herbs. We spent an hour and a half walking around looking at the animals. It was super cool to see them all roaming in a really natural environment

We wandered around while waiting for the ferry. it was closed but you can visit inside. there are many kinds of animals and they have made flower gardens. It can be nice to visit in detail when it is open.

Great spot to see some interesting animals for free. My kids loved it.

Easy walk from the ferries and they have a clean public restroom as well.

A must stop while visiting the island. Very cute and well maintained Farm! Venture around the grounds and admire beautiful animals. Walk in area to pet/watch some chickens and some cute llamas, which gets you closer to the back of the farm. Food for the animals available at lemonade stand to feed.

Mohegan Bluffs is a stunning geological formation towering 200 feet high over a secluded beach. The location offers breathtaking views of the ocean and is perfect for hiking or nature photography. Well-maintained stairs provide easy access to the beach, allowing visitors to enjoy its beauty without difficulty. The area also boasts magnificent mansions and is ideal for daytime dates. Overall, Mohegan Bluffs provides an excellent opportunity to experience Mother Nature's wonders in all their glory.
This is located close to the South light house on the island. There are lots of steps and has the best views of Atlantic Ocean. Be prepared to carry fluids it gets challenging when climbing the steps back. There’s a view point close by and gives the best views of the wind energy mills in the ocean.

An absolute jewel of a place! We are in Newport for a few days' vacation from NYC. Nature, walking to explore, the Atlantic ocean and photography are what motivates my searches for new experiences. I did a lot of research before coming back to Newport, and serendipitously stumbled upon a mention of Block Island. We took a high speed ferry to get there. The trip takes an hour. You have seven hours to explore the island before it's time to leave.
To say we were stunned by the natural beauty of Mohegan Bluffs isn't to say much at all. It's best to see this geological wonder with your own eyes. We love Newport, and try to come for a few days every year, and now, this glorious little gem of an island has become a must-revisit on our Newport getaways.

Beautiful but not for the fainthearted. Stairs go down part of the way then you get to scramble over rocks, sand and rough footing to the ocean floor. We went right after a huge rainstorm and the water was still flowing making it quite slick. The trek up and down was well worth it.
The Hodge Family Wildlife Preserve is a peaceful and serene natural area that offers stunning views of the dunes, lighthouse, and middle pond. Visitors can enjoy a beautiful trail that leads to the cliffs edge, providing an excellent perspective of the water below. The preserve also makes for a perfect spot for picnic lunches and relaxation in the sun during spring days without being overcrowded.
Beautiful! Really cool overlook of the dunes, lighthouse, and middle pond. Very peaceful and relaxing stop. If you're on you're on bike on the way to the lighthouse stop here and stretch your legs. Highly recommend!

The Block Island Wind Farm is a renewable energy project located off the coast of Rhode Island. The wind farm consists of five turbines, each with a capacity to produce 6 megawatts of electricity. The turbines are positioned in an area that experiences strong and consistent winds, making the site ideal for generating clean power. This wind farm is one of the first offshore wind farms in the United States and has helped reduce carbon emissions while providing power to thousands of homes on Block Island and across Rhode Island.
It is impressive and the island is so much better for it. Can hear the ocean rather than the very noisy generator. You get used to the windmill skyline, now it seems picturesque.

Update 9/6/2023: RIP Faith. There are so many like you that didn't need to die this way.
For anyone who isn't aware, a whale nicknamed Faith was found dead, floating in the RI windfarm yesterday.
Are these things great for the environment? No. Do they make low frequency noise that causes whales to beach themselves? Yes. Are they nice to look at? No. But at the end of the day, they produce electricity needed to run our A/Cs and charge our cars. Humans have been destroying nature for a long time no reason to get upset over these things.
mike d — Google review
HUGE WASTE OF MONEY. These Windmills are decommissioned now. They are broken & no one knows how to or wants to fix them. They will stand there forever now serving NO PURPOSE.
Ryan St Andrew — Google review
short sighted approach. the life cycle of this installation is costly, maintenance is difficult, it's construction and installation consumed more energy than it will ever produce.
Rusty Youbet — Google review
It's kind of sad that these things are making whales beach themselves. I was happy that they were environmentally friendly at first, but I've come to realize that dozens of whales and dolphins are now beaching themselves because of it. 23 dead whales have washed up on the East coast since December!! (Posting in Aug 23') Just very sad :(

Simply beautiful. to look at, like a beautiful ballerina jumping in the sky. For some people however, the beauty is in the money wind turbines save.
In less than a 6 years 24.5/KWh looks like the bargain because many parts of RI already pay more than that today, for electricity that causes cancer, asthma, bronchitis and heart disease from dirty fossil fuel pollution. If you factor the medical cost of electricity, beautiful clean wind electricity is magnificent.
Some people think they are "Smart" like former president Don who loves coal but hates clean electricity, pretending he does not understand the threat of global climate holocaust.
Eleftherios Pavlides — Google review
Really cool to take a tour and see in person. These things are giant. Good fishing near it and nice to know the cost of electricity on the island went down after it was built.

Block Island Wind Farm is the first commercial offshore wind farm in the US. 3.8 miles off the Block Island coast in the Atlantic Ocean. There are five 6-MW turbines (30 MW total). Construction began in 2015 and completed in late 2016. The project generates more than 125,000 megawatt hours of electricity annually. A 21-mile submarine power cable buried under the ocean floor connects the project to mainland Rhode Island in Narragansett.

The Block Island North Light is a historic lighthouse constructed in 1867, open for visitation during the summer season and on weekends during the spring and fall months. The structure is made of brown stone and boasts remarkable architecture that stands as a testament to the past. Visitors can explore this landmark, gaining insights into its history while enjoying scenic views of the surrounding landscape.
The Southeast Light is a well-known red-brick lighthouse situated on top of Mohegan Bluffs, towering over 200ft-high red-clay cliffs. It was constructed in 1875 and boasts a remarkable flashing green light as well as a foghorn. In 1993, the lighthouse was moved back from the eroding cliff edge to ensure its preservation. This location is ideal for sunset watching with waves crashing below and sails drifting across the Atlantic offshore.
The Inn 1661 Farm and Gardens is an enjoyable destination with a large garden and friendly animals that can be petted. It is a great place for children to explore and have fun. It was my first time visiting Rhode Island and staying at The 1661 Inn was the best decision I ever made.

Not much to see here off-season. Local zoo has more but it’s a Block Island thing to check off your list.
Mansion Beach is a secluded and picturesque beach that offers visitors an opportunity to experience beautiful ocean waves, soft sand, clear water, and rocky seafloor. Although the beach has limited parking, it can be accessed by carpooling or on foot. The area is spacious enough to accommodate many visitors and maintain social distancing protocols during COVID-19. In addition, it is dog-friendly and easily accessible by bike or foot.
My favorite beach on block island- beautiful, somewhat more secluded and less crowded than some of the beaches closer to old harbor. It’s on the northernmost portion of crescent beach, so not walking distance from old harbor, but definitely do-able via bike. The side road to access the beach is dirt so mopeds aren’t allowed.

This beach has a very small parking area so car-pool, plan according. It's also quite a bit of a walk if you have lots of gear to carry BUT it's all worth it. The sand is soft and the water was clean. The kids loved the waves. And I took a stroll to the left and came across the cliffs and rocks. A very nice beach. Also no changing area. Just 3 porta potties.

Great for families with kids or anyone who likes a tame beach. Waves are mild, not too high and very manageable for the average swimmer. The lifeguard is right in the middle of the beach, and the areas on either side are not guarded. You can fly a kite in the non-guarded places. Easy access (flat and close) from the parking lot. A clean bathroom is centrally located. Read the BI Times for events here (sometimes there are movie nights in the summer).
Ballard's Beach Resort is an unassuming hotel that boasts of a private beach, seafood restaurant, and beach bar. Guests can enjoy live music while sipping on delicious drinks under the umbrellas. However, the menu items are pricey during peak tourist season. The resort is conveniently located close to the ferry dock, making it an excellent place to unwind before catching a ride back to the mainland.
A BIG thank you to Steve, Terry-Ann and the staff at Ballard’s for making our wedding day visions come to life! We had the most amazing 3 days full of family, friends and FUN for our wedding weekend. Terry-Ann went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect and it all truly exceeded our expectations. Well, this summer the weather has certainly complicated our ability to get out to The Block. Finally, late September we had 2 days free and it wasn't raining or blustering so we said let's make a dash out to the Island and stay one night. Being after Labor Day, many seasonal workers had left, places were open restricted hours, the FIRE had devastated many businesses. We wanted to stay in-town since we weren't there very long , we didnt bring the car, and we would just walk about.
Did you know that Ballard's has lodging!?... and it's not a bare bones - hose off the sand - sleep off the partying - kind of place? for $200 a night? and you can't hear the music from downstairs? and it has views? and 3 rooms each have a balcony overlooking the Harbour and town? They do!
We got 2 rooms - and, being shoulder season, at a discounted price. They were both excellent.
Queen beds. Nice bedding. Closet. Iron and board. 2 dressers with lots of drawers. A real refrigerator. Large screen TV. Large modern bathroom. Large walk in stone shower.
One of the rooms was like a suite with small entrance hall with closet. Large bedroom. Another little room with a large vanity with lots of drawers and a sink. A separate large bathroom with massive shower.
Sliders went off the main room to a porch with wicker lounge, 2 chairs and table. Looked out to the water sunsets and main street beyond.
Room service was available from their regular menu.
There is a designated entrance for the hotel part of Ballards so you dont have to go through the bustling party area. The staff were all charming.
Ballards was winding down for the season, but the bar was still open. People were dining on the rear patio. A fellow was playing guitar and singing in the music shell. He said it was his last gig of the season. The tiki huts were being drained and buttoned up for the season.
People were sunbathing and some were in the water. They have a lovely stretch of sandy beach on the open water stretching across to Narragansett Bay. You can throw a towel on the sand, but they have available chairs and umbrellas and cabanas.
You can stroll along the boardwalk or quickly be in town for breakfast or shopping or the farmers markets on Wed and Saturday.
Just a short walk to the Ferry. After you check out they will hold your bag until you are ready to board.

Ambiance is nice and food is good. However it is VERY expensive and they add a 25% gratuity for parties of more than 6 people and that includes small children. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Tables are very close together. Beautiful views. I wouldn't recommend for families but would for party people looking to experience a cool beach bar.

I visited this island recently. I went to Ballards. Needless to say it was by far the worst experience I have ever had. Place was dirty, packed and staff were run off their feet. Also 40 dollars for a cocktail that was supposed to be 'top shelf' alcohol and I saw it being made. I said to the staff. The staff were lovely. They finally admitted that management told them to replace with cheap liquor. The management seemed really rude and the staff actually seemed scared of them. Later spoke to some locals on my trip and was told they hire overseas and treat their staff horribly.
Stay away and possibly report for exploration of staff.
Disgusting abuse of staff and tourists. Much better places like beachhead.

Terrible experience, the majority of my meal was inedible. None of the staff seemed to care as they bussed my 30$ dish away without asking why. My gfs steak was disgusting and ultimately the manager decided wasting more then. A half hr of my time was a fair way to tell me he wouldn’t adjust our bill at all. Even after saying he would twice and handing me back the same bill unedited. Service and food was terrible 1 star is being modest . 100$+ wasted ruined our trips ending

I went to Ballards for lunch and I spent the rest of the day at the beach. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. Rafael N, the Brazilian manager was the best. He assisted us with reservations and got us a great table, then he sold us on staying for the beach part - which was not initially part of our plan - and oh boy, that was great! The beach was perfect and they rent you whatever you need to have a comfortable stay at the beach. They also have a great live band playing. great atmosphere to catch a drink and live music. the drinks were delicious but on the sweeter side. the food and drinks are pricey, but most places on the Island are during the tourist season in the summer. the weather was perfect that day so we got to enjoy sitting under the umbrellas, catching some vitamin D, and relaxing. Ballard's is close to the ferry dock so it's also a great place to relax at the end of the day before you catch a ride back to the mainland. the loss of one star was for some of their food. My favorite thing we ordered was their fries and lobster salad sliders. the burger sliders were not that great, and the fried chicken sliders we ordered were pretty ordinary.

Nice beach, can get very crowded but we got there in time for someone to give us their beach chairs so that was great. There are beach chairs and umbrellas there but you got to get there early if you want to snatch one up before it gets packed. It was so beautiful there today and the sun was shining bright. A live band was playing and the crowd was fun. People were nice there too. They check your bags and ID when you go into the beach facilities and they serve food and drinks to you while you relax on the beach. The water was nice and warm however, there is a dip while you walk into the water that can be surprising if you are not expecting it. Overall it was a beautiful beach day with my friends and family.

Very cool place to grab a drink. The place is massive with a number of different bars spread throughout the resort. The Espresso Martini was excellent. I didn't get a chance to get food but everything we saw come out of the kitchen looked very good. Can't wait to go back and try it out.

Really had terrible experience. Me and my fiancé came to Ballard’s for lunch and ordered California lobster roll, oysters, rom runner drink. Lobster roll was not as a described on a menu at all and waitress agree on that. Espresso martini was really bad and I asked to return it right away but they still put on our check and was really surprised when I asked that I don’t want to pay for it. Our waitress was clueless so she asked 5 times what do we want so overall not worth to come.

My wife and I stayed at Ballard’s for four nights. We’ve been to BI before and this time we wanted to be at the beach. We were wary due to some reviews about partying and service but we were pleasantly surprised. The room was nice and clean and updated. If I’m being honest, the ac was super loud but not really needed. The ceiling fan was awesome but it was clicking like crazy. It was nice for them to leave some beach towels so we didn’t need to rent. Halfway through they realized we’d brought some wine and they dropped a mini fridge in the room. It was very nice and thoughtful.
The beach is awesome. To me, it’s the nicest beach in the northeast. Was in up to my neck and saw my feet. Calm water for the most part. Very little seaweed if any. Beautiful Sandy beach. Service was top notch. I think the bad reviews they get sometimes are because people go at peak hours and it’s just too busy. We ate lunch at Ballard’s 3 times. Once at 11:45 am and once at 2 pm and once on the beach. We didn’t go at 12:30 when they were busiest. The food was great. CA lobster roll was good and plentiful, calamari was spectacular, groupper sandwich was excellent too. Their breakfast was also great. I had an LI ice tea in the beach and it was super strong and tasty. They give you a flag and when it’s up they come. This way you’re not bothered incessantly if you don’t want something. The chairs and umbrellas and child cabanas did the job and were in good shape. Arrive before 10 am if you want your ideal spot. Were there a few things here and there that weren’t perfect? Sure. But all in all we were impressed with this place,
It’s facilities, food and service team and wouldn’t hesitate to return.
PS we were glad to have a security team present to make sure it didn’t get rowdy and it never did.

The food and beverage menu has some incredible offerings. The Tuna Poke Bowl and Pineapple Chicken Bowl is a must try. The owner Steven Filipi runs an awesome operation. Can’t wait to come back.

They had live music inside when I was there in June because it was cool that day but if it was warmer it would have been outside. The food is surprisingly very good. Never had issues and it is always very tasty. I ordered the spicy tuna roll and was pleasantly surprised at how delicious it was! I really like the sangria because it’s not just wine as there is definitely some type of liqueur in there.
When it’s nice and hot outside it’s perfect to relax by the beach with a drink. Beach chairs and cabanas can be reserved but you can always bring your own towel and plop down by the beach and just order a drink or snack.
The Clay Head Nature Trail on Block Island is a recommended hiking area with picturesque views of the clay cliffs and sounds of ocean waves. Visitors can reach the trail through a dirt road accessible by an SUV. The trail is well-maintained, and there are lookout points providing stunning vistas. Additionally, there is a scenic beach that offers some respite from busy tourist areas. While the hike may be long, it offers a worthwhile experience for those willing to take on the challenge.
The staff at the Inn we stayed at on Block Island told us to walk the Clay Head trail. Google maps can get you to the dirt road that brings you to a parking area. I would recommend an SUV as it can get a little bumpy. Great walk with some awesom lookouts over the clay cliffs. The trails are immaculate and even when you cannot see the ocean you can hear the waves roaring in.

Nice walk to the beach to catch an amazing view of the ocean. The wildlife makes the trails a nice escape while in between greenery

Our favorite nature trail on Block Island!! We just discovered this spot today and what a special place it is.. We read that it was difficult to find because there aren’t any signs on the road, but that’s exactly why it’s so private and serene.. Once you find Clay Head Road just take it straight to the end.. You’ll find a small dirt parking area, and from there the entrance to the trail is clearly marked.. The area is clean and well kept, with the main trails regularly mowed.. It’s a short walk down to the beach from the parker my area (it took us maybe 10 or 15 minutes with 2 children).. The shore and the views are absolutely spectacular.. We watched the Connecticut ferries coming and going while we played on the beach and made balancing rock sculptures.. We saw less than 10 other people the entire time.. What a lovely way to spend one of our last day on the island.. We’ll definitely be coming back to Clay Head tomorrow, and again on our next trip!!

I enjoyed Clay Head most out of the trails and sights of Block Island. It is very rustic, somewhat challenging but view from several bluffs and side adventures in the mazes are worth the effort.

We stopped after biking all over Block Island and were looking for a quite spot to sit for a bit. This was it. The beach was scenic and not crowded. We didn't walk the trail (tired legs) but it sure looked nice ,was longer than I realized. A destination for another visit.

Had the whole beach to ourselves! The trail to the beach was easy in my sandals; we personally did not find the trail to the cliff so will do next time. Such a beautiful and more secluded trail of Block Island.

The one-lane unpaved road to trail head goes farther than you think, but worth it to get parking that won't impede others.

Breath taking views. Wide, well groomed hiking trails. Beautiful fields, woods, cliff walk. Loved it.
Great Salt Pond is a body of water located in Rhode Island. The pond is popular among tourists and locals alike for recreational activities such as fishing, boating, and swimming. The pond is surrounded by diverse flora and fauna, including various bird species that nest in the surrounding trees.
Stayed here at anchor in July 2023. Great Dinghy Dock, a nice bar for a drink and people and boat watching.

Excellent place to stay if you are lucky enough to visit Block Island by private boat. There are a large number of public and private mooring balls, a good anchorage area for those that like to hang on the hook. There are also an assortment of marinas if you prefer to stay dockside. Easy well bouyed entrance channel that makes coming and going a breeze.

Calm rolling meadows and dense thickets meeting the sea at a cliff face. Beautiful views of neighboring Black Rock Beach. Peaceful hiking with few encounters of other visitors. Free entry. Bike rack.

Really beautiful train down to the ocean. Nothing very steep, very open, and a truly beautiful hike (more of a walk really). You get meadows of wildflowers, some forestry, and of course views of the (other side) of the southern bluffs. Really enjoyed this one, and it was not too crowded at all.

Lovely spot for a walk/hike, seeing flora and fauna and orb seeking (although we didn't find any). It is far enough inland on the island to offer a different experience of weather. (In early October 2022, winds along the shore were heavy, but not within the Hollow.)

Didn't spend much time here but wasn't impressed with the woods/hiking trails, although we didn't view the cliffs/ocean from this area. I'm sure that would have been prettier.
