The North Carolina History Center at Tryon Palace is a modern and family-friendly museum that offers hands-on displays about NC history. Visitors can explore the exhibits, watch rotating films, listen to depictions from individuals in James City, and interact with various gadgets. The museum also features a waterfront cafe and a store for visitors to enjoy. It's an informative place of historical contentment where one can learn about the state's past through guided tours and educational experiences.
Fans of history will enjoy this museum and the Tyron Palace tour. The tour of the interior was about an hour long. I enjoyed our excellent guide “the Englishman” who was both knowledgeable and comedic. The grounds are well kept and I enjoyed walking the gardens on a sunny but chilly December day. Not sure that I would recommend this for very young children, but historically curious kids who are entertained by learning would likely enjoy this visit. The gift shop has a nice selection of interesting trinkets and books. The indoor museum galleries offer interesting facts and perspectives on the natural and human history of the area. I spent about 3 hours here, including the 1 hr palace tour, as an individual. I would visit again to read the galleries in further detail.

Amazing history! The museum was pretty incredible, they have done an absolutely wonderful job curating the artifacts here. The history of this location is very interesting and there was so much more than we ever thought. If you have kids the Time Machine and hands on area alone is worth the visit. WOW!! Y'all have done an awesome job here! Thank you so much for sharing this with the public.

Neat little place to find out more about Tryon palace and some side activities that cost a little extra but give you a more in-depth look into history.

Absolutely wonderful experience. The house itself is extremely beautiful and somewhat cosy despite its grandeur. The best part of the visit was the guides themselves. Extremely interesting commentary. Their work really brings history to life. The centre itself is a little more lowkey but remains very interesting and educational.

Super, super informative history museum. I literally spent a few hours here watching the film they have playing in rotation, listening to actual depictions of individuals from James City, and any other interactive gadgets I could find. I read every single word this museum had to offer. I had the absolute best time ever! I was at a place of historical contentment.

I organize an automotive tour that takes place in the spring and fall each year. We arranged to make the Palace a stop for our group and they absolutely enjoyed it. Arranging our stop was easy and the sales staff was a joy to work with. We had a very knowledgeable tour guide who was flat out awesome! He was more than happy to answer questions and did so in period correct costume. I highly recommend this location as it was one of the highlights of our trip! Everyone in our group had nothing but great things to say abut our visit.

We had such a great time at this museum after touring Tryon Palace!! They have an interactive portion where you can “print a newspaper”, help make roast duck and other receipts, steer a ship, make a quilt, and make turpentine.

The New Bern Firemen's Museum is a historical site that dates back to 1955 and showcases the oldest fire company in the state as well as the Great Fire of '22. It is a must-see attraction when visiting New Bern, offering knowledgeable guides who provide an extensive history of the town beyond just fire memorabilia. The museum provides details about how the department has evolved over time and sheds light on the town's people and their way of life.
Great historical exhibits that show the detailed history of the New Bern fire department. The original fire wagons and objects are still there at the museum. Amazing tour guides!

What a fabulous place, so rich in history. The museum itself had quite a collection and the building was lovingly restored. Our tour guide Roger was the best we have ever encountered. He took us on a journey through time on the New Bern Fire service with passion and expertise. My husband is a retired career firefighter and was very impressed. Definitely worth the stop!

A must visit place while you’re in new Bern! The guides were exceptionally knowledgeable in giving a history of the town. It’s more than just fire memorabilia (although they have a ton of it and it’s really neat). The history of the department details a lot about the town, it’s people, and how it’s evolved over time. Overall a great visit! They have a scavenger hunt for kids too.

I had way too much fun here! I had an amazing tour guide who was a retired volunteer firefighter. The space is incredible. You learn so much not only about fire trucks, but the entire town of New Bern. If you have kids, they have a dedicated kids space.

Amazing Experience! We had a very thorough and kind tour guide that told us about all of the fascinating history and also some of his personal experience. Very family friendly, handicap accessible, and has a children’s play room. Very kind staff and excellent cleanliness. We were reminded of the hard work and amazing service our firemen do that we often forget is very difficult! We love this place and will definitely be back.

Historic Firehouse with vehicles and other items dating back more than a century. Good guided tour and then you can stay for as long as you like. $7/adult, $5/kid, and children under 5 are free. Right in downtown New Bern. Good for about an hour to hour and half, especially with small kids.

The New Bern Civil War Battlefield Park is a historical site that offers visitors a chance to explore the Civil War battleground through guided tours and interpretive panels. The park also features nature trails where one can enjoy the scenery and find sharks teeth in the area designated for sifting rocks. With restrooms, picnic tables, and well-maintained grounds, this park provides an enjoyable experience for history buffs and families alike. The shady trees along the lovely trails offer benches for resting while soaking up beautiful views.
What a beautiful place! And only minutes from our home! We came across so many beautiful plants, swamps, snakes sunning themselves, and a turtle that I helped across the path. Someone had mentioned finding over 100 sharks teeth.... we didn't find even one.... maybe they were all taken by others. 🥴 Anyway....a beautiful place for a great walk!!!

Nice trails, mix of mulch, gravel, and wood bridges. All very well maintained and marked. Multiple trails to cut back to the trailhead if you don't want to complete the entire loop.
The signs have a huge amount of detail information. Great for a history buff looking for a casual stroll.
Bathrooms on site were open which is a huge plus. Perfect place to stretch you legs and have a picnic in the covered area.
Lots of wildlife!!

Nice walk in the woods. #2&3 earthen fortifications are not too far from parking area and rather level path. Take time to think about the fighting/suffering that went on here. Peaceful now. Swampy area is home to all kinds of animals, I'm sure... we saw frog and birds. The visitor center wasn't open , but restrooms were.😊

The Civil War battleground has nature trails and provides lots of background information on the Civil War battle that occurred here! It is a must see for history buffs! There is an area where you can sift the rocks to find sharks’ teeth. In a few minutes we were able to find five sharks teeth. The kids will love it! There are also restrooms, picnic tables, and the grounds are very well-maintained.
Union Point Park is a well-known recreational area situated along the Neuse and Trent Rivers. This popular park boasts various amenities, such as play equipment, a large gazebo, and a boardwalk. It is known for its natural beauty and stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The park is home to numerous bird species which visitors can observe in their natural habitat. However, some visitors fail to show respect towards them which can be detrimental to their welfare.
Beautiful park. Playground for the kids...lots of benches for the bigger kids....and a lovely Riverwalk. Take a moment and sit to watch the world go by....fish jumping out of the water, and the boats travelling by. Don't forget to check out the local ceramic bears in the park!

Beautiful park that is great to visit year round, whether you’re coming to relax on one of the benches by the water, or playing with kids. Every year, the Christmas decorations are more extravagant. I'd had the pleasure of visiting this park a few times: at night, before sunrise, and during the day. It's absolutely gorgeous and one of my favorite places in this part of NC. I cannot wait to visit again on vacation! I also enjoyed seeing so many birds; I just wish some people and/or their kids would respect and be kind to them.
I took these photos during my last visit; the fog rolled in just before sunrise and made everything look even more lovely.

Its a nice little city park. Its on the water so you can feed the ducks, seagulls and pigeons. Its a great place to find a cool spot and enjoy lunch. There is a gas station next to the hotel that has a nice deli sandwich bar. There are some benches, picnick tables and swings for the kids. It has a nice walking path along the water and over to the marina behind the convention center.

This little nice riverfront park welcomes you as soon as you enter New Bern. Located on the shore of Neuse River. When I visited it was a bit windy and chilly but I still enjoyed my time there. Good facilities like Picnic Area, benches all over the park, restrooms. Kids really enjoy feeding food to ducks around. Walking trail passes by this park which covers this nice town. Couple of swings for kids. Visited park Sunday Morning around 10 AM so did not have any parking issues.

New Bern does a Christmas tree lighting with style. The park is nice all on its own, but the decorations for the holiday added an extra nice touch. The fountain can be found a few blocks from park. The horse carriage did run through the park and I'm not sure if this present just for the tree lighting or if this all season long.

Union point is kid friendly and dog friendly park local in downtown New Bern Nc. There are plenty of restrooms within walking distance. The park is well maintained and very clean for the amount of people who visit this park. There are plenty of outdoor swings, picnic grills and permanent corn hole game in place. Bring your own bags for the corn hole toss. There is plenty of room just to spread out and have fun. Bring your own entertainment and enjoy an amazing experience outdoors with an amazing atmosphere. The view of the waterfront is amazingly beautiful and there are plenty of ducks down by the waterfront. The city summer concerts is always great entertainment. We had the opportunity to listen to Chicago Rewire; Great memories of the music by Chicago. Footloose on the Neuse presented by Trent-Cadillac-Buick-GMC. Great area to view sunrises/sunsets, view ducks and boats on the Neuse. Newbern area businesses do an outstanding service with free outdoor activities and concerts at this park. Movie nights is always a big hit too! During the winter holidays ice skating is available with excellent outdoor activities and Christmas lighting.

A well maintained park for kids to run around, feed ducks and other birds if you want. If you want to relax just by River watching and car passing bye on the bridge, there’s a place for you as well to sit by the river bank. There’s also a gazebo if you don’t want the sun on you. Plenty of parking spaces for you to park. This park is also a site for the annual mums festival in the city around October and any annual bridge run marathon.

My husband and I were given the most amazing gift from his parents this Christmas. His parents visited Carolina Creations and fell in love with Janet's beautiful work. She made these incredible bowls for the whole family, fully equiped with the perfect scene of the whole family at our yearly beach spot. Around the edge of the bowls, she added beautiful little touches to represent each of us. I just adore popping into this store when I am visiting New Bern. I have found so many wonderful cards created by a hand full of local artists. I send out a lot of cards and postcards to family and friends around the country; they love when I send them artwork in the mode of a card. The selection is great. I enjoy walking around the store finding great gifts as well. If you are an art lover and enjoy supporting local talent, this is a great place to shop! Perfect space for visitors to get a bit of the New Bern for their own home. Great place for locals to grab some local flair for gift giving ideas.

The food was AMAZING but the bartender was our server for my bday dinner and she was less than ideal. Her drinks were amazing, esp the blackberry margarita lol, but she was rather rude at the tail end. We had a large group, she didn't ask if we wanted separate checks, she just dropped one very large check at the table and disappeared. Then she was rude/curt to my friends when they finally found her to separate the check, she treated them like they were wasting her time. The food was OUTSTANDING, that's why I gave 4 stars, it would be 5 if not for her very unprofessional behavior. But if she ends up being my server again, I'm probably going to ask for someone else.

Fantastic selection of vendors today plus a fun cookie walk. Got some fresh peaches from a local farm and peach bread pudding homemade by another vendor. Good selection of fresh produce and meat. Plenty of parking. Well worth the trip

From radio and Social Media accounts, I expected more. While they had a wide variety of farm type vendors, it was only half populated. After walking through it, we did enjoy some of the other shops in the area.
I can't imagine the parking situation when that area is really hopping. They should have an off-site parking area with a shuttle bus. The five of us are new to the area so we really did not know what to expect after an hour drive.

This park is amazing! The kids love to play and they have a picnic area so that you can eat or even have a small party for your child. There are plenty of benches for parents/guardians to sit and watch the kids play. The equipment is very well made so even the big kids (us parents) can run and play with the kids. It is also gated in so you don’t have to worry about your child running out into the road. They recently added a little library so you can donate books or take books while you are there.

They maintained a very similar vibe in the rebuild as the playground originally had, which I was happy about as an OG Kidsville veteran myself. Enjoyed the pepperoni rolls and 3 fantastic beers here. Great location, super dog and family friendly, and we loved the open concept and the atmosphere. Pete is amazing—very friendly and welcoming. This is one of the breweries we have visited where the beers are true to the advertised style. The cask IPA was one of the best beers we’ve tasted, and it was great to see a cask beer and hand pump in the US. Pretty decent wine selection also for the non-beer drinkers! Thanks Riverfront Convention Center.
What a lovely venue and staff.
I am the Event Coordinator for a large organization and have planned many events. I must say, this has a wonderful set up and view. The Conference Center catered our lunch - the seating on the waterfront was a beautiful backdrop and escape from being inside all day.
To the staff members we worked with; Tarshi, Rebecca, Tovoris, Hunter and others- you were a complete joy! Thanks for the great suggestions on how to make our set up and service more accommodating for our guests. It was a complete success, thanks to you!

The New Bern Riverfront Convention Center is the perfect space for any event, especially a wedding. The staff provided top notch service and were a pleasure to work with. There’s many options on where to hold your event. The newly renovated portion with the head-to-toe glass window is stunning. There’s so many pictures I could share, but here’s a few of the different rooms/locations this venue has to offer. Everything about the convention center was convenient…. The parking, the tentative staff, the “back up” space if it rains, etc. It was hard to find a venue to hold our “large” wedding of 200 guest and make everyone feel spacious and comfortable. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

We hosted a work conference here and it was great. The building is gorgeous, great facilities and meeting spaces. Great location with waterfront views, great for taking short walks on breaks. Very helpful AV team. The reasons that it doesn’t get 5 stars are:
1- not much catering on site (only light breakfast; everything else has to be external).
2- hotel selection nearby is very poor. I am surprised that one of the hotels in walking distance is not nicer.
I think the convention center is losing business because there are not good hotel options nearby. It’s difficult to host a professional conference where the hotels are lackluster and needing improvement.

The building is nice, but the hospitality is very poor. I was at a convention recently, and they couldn't even provide coffee for the people. There was one small pot put out first thing in the morning for about 100 people, and that was all you got. When I asked the lady about getting more, her reply was" lts up to the powers that be." Whatever that ment, we still didn't get any more coffee, but there was water. I've been to many convention and most provided a spread for their guests

Craven County Health Department deserves a large round of applause and a multitude of praise for being so efficient at this Covid-19 vaccine process. We seem to be way ahead of most areas not only locally but in many other states judging by what I've seen and heard. The on-line sign up is easy and fast, and they send reminders via text messaging.

A nice beachwalk along side the convention center and a few blocks walk you'll see the city hall. A small town with a lot of things to do and discover if your feet will allow, small shops and local restaurants.
This is a hidden gem in New Bern! It's a beautiful venue in the heart of town, very affordable, and the staff is great.

Today I had to the pleasure to have a great conversation with Craven Arts Council Director John. The team at Craven Arts Council are continuously working to be an inspiration to all artist, artisans, patrons and people interested in the investigation of their own art experience.

The gallery owned and run by the Hinesville Area Arts Council has a dual role within the community.
Firstly, its walls (both inside and out) act as an outlet for the talent of local artists. But secondly, it also offers public art classes for those who want to release their inner Picasso.
A different artist local to the area around Hinesville is honoured with an exhibition each month, while classes are available to both children and adults of all levels.
When it comes to what sort of art to expect, its walls host everything from landscape photography to traditional American quilts.

Saw the array of pictures depicting people of the Vietnam Era. The government, from Kenedy to Nixon, let these people down.

What a great location with great local artists. The old bank is such a great ambience for art. Was very happy to finally get to come in here for the Art Walk and see and purchase some great local art from some great artists. The staff here was amazing and friendly and really took care of everyone. So definitely be back soon.

I have been here several times now with a friend who used to work there. It is always a delight to see what is new on the walls, in the vault and displayed in the shop. This time I bought several valentine cards designed by local elementary school children, 2 pieces of pottery and a lovely metalwork star. There seems to be something for every artistic taste.

Stopped by to hear a concert provided by the local Community College's singing ambassadors and was blown away by the sound resonance!
The gallery's visual appeal was also top notch.
Most definitely will be visiting their location again.
The New Bern Civic Theatre is a longstanding establishment for theatrical performances and youth programs in the performing arts. Recently, they put on an impressive Vaudeville Follies Show that showcased a stream of amazing talent. The theater has undergone numerous improvements, and each new show seems to surpass the last. In addition to providing refreshments for kids, adults can enjoy beer and wine during performances at this outstanding local venue.
Mr. Ho’s Orchestrotica Band put on a rare jewel of a concert at the Civic Theatre. A terrific venue to see an extraordinary band.

How can you possibly enjoy the show with such poor seating conditions. This will be our last attempt to see one of your productions. My wife and I were up in the balcony for the Lewis & Clark production. The distance between the rows of seats was extremely narrow. When the woman sitting in front of me moved in her seat, I could feel the pressure on my knees. Even though I have undergone 2 knee replacements, I would never have expected such poor seating arrangement. My knees are still sore. When we were leaving the theater a maintenance man apologized for the lack of cooling in the balcony (just ceiling fans). Haven’t you folks heard of wall mounted air conditioners to be used in conjunction with the ceiling fans. The performance was great, but sitting through it lessened the experience.

It's wonderful to have a venue like this for live performances locally. There are some very talented people in our community who perform and so many others who work hard behind the scenes. Thank you and may the show go on!

Great atmosphere with new seats. Full House opening night 27 October 2023 during performance of The Addams Family. Historical building with excellent history for preforming theatre arts 🎭. Parking can be tricky and I'd extremely limited for this facility. Most individuals utilize the church parking lot.

On a whim, due to the inclement weather, we were not disappointed with visiting the New Bern Civic Theatre. The tropical storm was racing toward the area. The old adage that the show must go on is tried and true! It was opening night for "The Revolutionists" by Lauren Gunderson. According to the website, the majority of seats were to be filled. We arrived 30 minutes early, right after dinner at the Bay Leaf.
The auditorium was barely one-third to capacity. The local talent was remarkable. Enjoyable was Olympe and particularly Charlotte. I would have loved a little more background into the workings of Marianne (very talented) and her husband. Marie had the best expressions and flamboyance, a real star.
Check out their shows while in the area. A true gem.

"The Producers" was fantastic. "Springtime for Hitler" was so good it made me cry. Support your local theatre, folks. They aren't doing it for fame or money, they are doing it because they love it, and it shows.

Extremely clean and classy place after the renovation. I have gone here multiple times and everytime has been a good one. The shows were always enjoyable and the concessions weren't that expensive. 100% recommend going

We watched The SpongeBob Musical - Youth Edition at New Bern Civic Center. The cast, crew and directors were phenomenal. The theater was clean, and the snacks and drinks at the concession stand were well stocked. You could tell that everyone that was part of the show really took pride in what they were doing. We'll definitely be back for another show.

NBCT is always wonderful. The productions are great. I am so thankful for their offerings for kids to be involved in theater. Between the productions during the year and summer camp, there’s a way for the kids to be involved. Local theater is where it’s at!

Great museum and it being open to the public for free is awesome! Best museum in town. The person working there was so informative and a volunteer. Great experience and great people. Donation box is available

Great stop if you're a history buff! The volunteer docent was extremely knowledgeable of the school, local history, architecture, and the extraordinary preservation efforts accomplished in New Bern. That's what made this stop a treat. The museum itself is self guided with uncluttered and well laid out exhibits. Donations are accepted.

I love community theater and I love that we have this place to use for it. My only complaint would be the sound. Towards the back where some of the seats are under the cover of the balcony the sound can be muffled and difficult to understand voices. Towards the front the sound system is so strong you almost get blown out of your seats when somebody gets loud. At times it can be difficult on the ears and that can make it difficult to understand voices as well. Other than that it's a great place and there's some incredible talent that is showcased there. I'll definitely go back.

Seriously, one of the most beautiful places to host an event. The area is beautiful and a good size space, but still feels very quaint. Mike is wonderful to work with and has everything you need for your event to run without a glitch. Walking into the iron gates makes you feel like you are walking into another place and time. Gorgeous place in the daytime and magical at night.

Top shelf organization, I can't express the dynamic of excellence (in all categories) of this home town, the people who work there R my friends, (first of all), local farm and garden store.
If I have questions, they answer them.
If I want to shop, I can do so wirhout being hindered by well meaning customer associates.
There is an overall feeling of satisfaction that I associate with this location.
Relaxed, Profesional, and Hometown

I tried these guys after going there once with a friend. A place I use to go to for many years had fallen under family management and became bad service. I brought my leaf blower to get fixed 3 times because it would never have enough pressure to keep running. This place failed all 3 times and never fixed it. This place also charged me for parts that they never fixed it with. Why?! Another place took 30 minutes and showed me what was wrong. WOW! I decided to give them another chance again with my riding mower… same result. After taking about a month to try and fix it, they didn’t. Not only was it not running correctly but now that I’ve gotten home, I see there’s a new issue. I’d stay away from this place. I saw some baby chicks 🐤 in there that I’m guessing are to be sold to whomever wants them. I feel sorry for them already. Hope they make it out of there safe. This place is terrible.
Dravious Knowles — Google review
After 3 weeks waiting for our push mower to be fixed we were called that it was ready to be picked up and we went there to pick it up and one of the wheels fell off of it in the parking lot Then we were instructed to take it somewhere else to have it fixed because they no longer sell the parts for it!! Our bill was $93 it was not fixed.

I have been shopping at this place for a number of years as they carry a fantastic bank of seeds for the garden as well as all of the lawn and garden care stuff you might need. They are generally helpful at the counters and always ask if they can help you find something.
The own seems to be a bit brash at times, but he genuinely is a helpful person. If I had to deal with people trying to return plants they killed all the time, I'd probably be brash too.
They provide a good assortment of prestarted plants for the garden in the spring, carry baby chicks and will place orders for you upon request. They will also spend the time to explain things to you.
They are a hard working locally owned establishment that I prefer to visit over the box stores. I hope to see them in business for years to come.
BTW. Opening up their hours to 5:30 and on weekends was a major plus for me!
Ryan Willett — Google review
Great selection of healthy plants, flowers and vegetables. Wonderful store inside. Lots of garden items, tools and decorations. They even had baby chicks for sale.
Tami Howard — Google review
Buyer beware no returns on soil (bought Petes' organic compost and Black Cow compost $4 more for each bag), equipment, plants (reading other reviews), ??? I should have ask what is the return policy, but on compost really? I knew it is a pricey storem, I buy my wheat straw there for my 28 layers and vegetable plants. I try to support local businesses when I can but if price is ridiculously more expensive that's where I draw the line. I also usually get good or maybe better customer service from a mom/papa store but sad to say NOT at this store. The owner could care less about loosing one customer.
Of course I also understand you cannot compete with big stores like Lowe's and Wal-Mart everybody knows that...I suggest for you to give quality service to be able to compete and definitely check your markup maybe you can welcome more customers if your prices is not that ridiculous. Just sharing my experience...
Very disappointed

Located in New Bern, Cedar Grove Cemetery is a hidden gem for history enthusiasts. Notable for being the final resting place of the inventor of Pepsi, this cemetery possesses an unassuming grave that can easily be overlooked if one isn't actively searching for it. However, the state of disrepair within the grounds is disheartening; numerous graves are neglected and tombstones lay broken amidst scattered bricks. A photograph taken through a dilapidated tomb door unveils its internal collapse.
Nice, quiet, lost of history. It's a little unkept, it could use some TLC, but what can you expect for sites that are well over 100+ years old.
Heywood Jablowme — Google review
Love to walk around and take it all in. Beautiful old growth trees and tons for the history buffs....always remember!
travis williams — Google review
This cemetery is really cool, especially considering the inventor of Pepsi is burried there, his grave is really small and easy to not notice if you aren't specifically looking for it. But it's really a sad shame to see how many graves are over grown or even broken tomb stones and loose bricks everywhere, I took a picture looking through the hole in the door of a tomb and you can see the whole thing has fallen apart on the inside. So as cool as this cemetery is, I'd like to see someone clean it up and take care of it much more
