The Saginaw Valley Naval Ship Museum, housed in the U.S.S. Edson, offers self-guided tours featuring vintage artifacts and exhibits. Visitors can explore at their own pace and take in the ship's history, including information plaques, historical photos, books, objects and medals scattered throughout the vessel. The tour includes views of many areas such as guns rooms to crew quarters with knowledgeable staff available to share stories about their experiences on board.
Amazing! So much history! We took an unguided tour and enjoyed every moment. You go at ur own pace, you have time to look, explore, learn, take photos, and appreciate the greatness of this ship! There are information plaques, so very many historical photos, books, objects, and medals. You get to see so much, from the guns, torpedoes, the massive engines, mess hall, crew and officer quarters, the bridge, radar room, you can climb up to the top, and be "king of the world" at the bow! My family had a wonderful time! The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to share their stories and experiences. It was an adventure we will never forget!

I cannot say enough good things about our experience touring the USS Edson! We were lucky enough to have 2 guides (one of whom actually served on the Edson [thank you, Bruce B. For your service]). Spent approx 3.5 hours on the ship (certainly didn’t feel like it with the amount of info we were seeing & hearing). Definitely impressed and will recommend to my friends & family!

Upon arriving in Bay City, the skies looked a little gloomy, how ever we were determined to make our first afternoon here eventful and educational. We happened to discover the USS Edson and went for a self guided tour. While exploring the crew sleep areas, we were greeted by a retired Navy officer who volunteers on the Edson. He so graciously gave us a personalized tour. We were able to see areas that normally we wouldn't get to due to being the only ones exploring the ship. Our favorite part was the unexpected scent of a cigar. Once we mentioned this to our guide, he smiled and told us of the caretaker that still guards this magnificent ship that had his heart. The experiences that the ship, our guide, and her permanent residents gave us will stay with us always. We can't wait to experience the Halloween ship in October.

Such an amazing Historic Location! They are preserving this beautiful ship and it's history! I strongly advise taking the time to visit and take the Historical Tour! Our group of Paranormal Investigators got to spend the night investigating. Such an honor! Thank you to all the hard working volunteers! Y'all are doing a tremendous job!

This is an extremely well preserved ship. You can go into many, many areas of the ship from the bridge down to the engine rooms. There is a map showing the layout of the ship. That is worth having with you during the visit. You aren’t likely to get lost, however it’s possible you will miss some of the areas of the ship without the map or find yourself retracing your steps. You can, for example, look into the gun mounts and see how the shells were loaded into the barrel. There is Full access to the crew and officers quarters as well as the various facets of the ship including Sickbay, administrative areas like the mail room and the ship’s mess.
This has a very authentic feel, as if you can tell the ship was in action and used for a number of years and crewed by many men during those years.
You get a great view of the surrounding area from the bridge level. Definitely make a visit to the gift shop.

A very cool experience. So much to see while on the Edson. It's a self-guided tour with signs that explain things. Not a bad price for all you get to see. The staff are super cool and you can tell they have a respect for the ship and for our military.

Took the kids, they had a great time. 😁 Will definitely go again, the boat tour is self guided allowing you to revisit areas and get a good feel for the layout of the destroyer and of how the crew lived on board.

I served on the Edson from 86 until 88. My first time back was unbelievable. I didn't expect it to be so emotional, but it was. Even after all those years I could see the faces and hear the voices of those I served with. So many good good memories aboard the Edson. Our Guide was simply the best. He took me to the places I wanted to see. Its hard to describe how much the work and care is given to the Edson by those who work and volunteer. I cannot say a big enough thanks. Even if you were never in the military you need to stop by and see the Edson. I love that they have memorials to the Frank E Evans DD754. Once again THANKS!!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! I appreciated the fact that most of the ship was accessible and there was no forced guide, allowing just about any path to take. We love military history and this was another check mark. Thanks!

Great opportunity to see part of America's past. Very much worth going to see, many veterans come here and most of them are willing to tell you stories about when they were on their ships. Don't forget to donate a little extra for the extras, they still have a lot of refurbishing to do.

What a great surprise to find this historic destroyer in Saginaw on our vacation. It had an easy to follow self guided tour, tons of interesting display and navy models, and half way through, Wayne (a volunteer) shared so many facts and helped guide us! Thanks so much

Very cool experience! Awesome seeing this warship towering over you. Touring the inside in a self-guided tour was informative and eye opening, crazy to see how naval officers and naval crewmen live in these cramped quarters!
Will be back at Halloween time when they turn this ship into a haunted house, called the Edson Incident, spooky!

We have toured this ship in the past. We planned to be in the area and thought it would be great to visit again. Unfortunately they apparently stop selling tickets at 3p and close at 4p. We arrived a few minutes after 3p and she was locked up like a battle ship heading into battle. Not a sole around. Bummer. Oh well, now we have a reason to return again!
Devin Warner — Google review
I have been to a handful of museum ships and this was my first time touring a destroyer. We visited on a cloudy and chilly October day. The ship was pretty lonely sitting on the river and we had pretty much the run of the ship.
The volunteers were friendly and personable upon our arrival. No real issues there.
The primary issue that we had was some confusion on the tour route. We were given a paper handout with the tour directions but the signage throughout the ship wasn’t always logical.
The ship itself is in decent shape. The volunteers seem to do a pretty good job maintaining the outside of the ship. Some of the outside areas could use a little more the non-slip tread applied because it was a little slick with the recent rains.
The interior spaces were in various conditions with some areas pretty nice and other areas need a little upkeep.
I feel that if I would improve something, it would be the various signage inside the ship including the tour route but also providing additional information about what we are looking at or what something does.
Overall, it’s worth a visit if you are in the area.

Riverwalk Pier is a serene pathway with stunning views of the Saginaw River. Situated in a tranquil setting, it offers several lookout points perfect for enjoying the picturesque scenery. The walkway is renowned for its peaceful ambiance and is popular among visitors seeking relaxation amidst nature's beauty. We love our local Riverwalk. The paths are very well manicured. The volunteers do an amazing job with the grounds. It's an amazingly maintained, veriegated gardenscape that must be seen to be appreciated. The boardwalks make for a great stroll or bike tour through this part of the rail trail, especially when the weather is nice. There are public picnic tables and loungeswings to watch the wildlife and migrating geese (too many sometimes!). Very dog friendly with stations to help clean up after their messes. We wish that the local skid marks didn't have to tag the posted art with spray paint, but even that seems in decline... still stop your nonsense, you little jerks.

Wonderful place to view the city of bay city from the middle of the saginaw river... i recomend starting at bigelow park and walking to vets park along the riverwalk and seeing the sites and there is plenty of lights to make a nice trip at nightime as well with the city lit up and the lights on the bridge are amazing...

So beautiful. The sights and sounds of natural nature mostly drowns out the Hussle and bustle of the city right across the way. Definitely coming again.
Bay City State Park is a scenic location that offers a variety of outdoor activities, such as biking, fishing and hiking. It also provides campsites for visitors who wish to stay overnight. The park has stunning views of the local nature, with wheelchair access available on the sand for all to enjoy some fun in the sun. There is also a relatively large splash pad located near the park's vicinity for children to play around in. The nature trails are well maintained and not too difficult to walk on.
One of the best place for trails in my opinion. The visitor center was open and it was nice and warm. Bathrooms were open and clean. Workers were polite and knowledgeable of the animals and history of the marsh. Beach was clean but during the summer I don't recommend going to the beach due to the zebra muscles and the sea gulls. There is a camping area across the street and a ice cream/small restaurant called muscle beach that is really good.

Beautiful end to a fun adventure at Dow Gardens! Headed back home after dunking our feet in the WARM water in October! Not used to that being from the Lake Michigan side of the state! We typically don't get our toes dipped in the water until August as the water is so cold!

This state park is beutiful with some great views of the local nature. They even have wheelchair access on the sand so anyone can enjoy some fun in the sun. With a short walk you could also take your children to a fairly large splash pad. Nature trails are well kept and not to rough. Water was kind of scumy when we went but I know they don't have control over the lake. I definitely would recommend a visit to any nature lover or adventurous family.

Beautiful! Granted I went at night to witness the Northern Light but unfortunately the sky did not give way to such events.
Instead, we sat, on top of the hill, amongst the playground equipment. There's a water park for children, which was off due to it being night time. We walked the beaches and listened to the frogs, and other night time beach critters.
All in all, 10/10 recommend! The staff was kind and kept to themselves, the area was clean and there was plenty of seating and parking 😊 on my next trip to the great state of Michigan I will absolutely come visit this Park in the daytime 🥰

My wife and I took a last minute Labor Day camping trip.... it was our first time here and we can't wait to come back. Large campground, many sites are huge! Clean, updated bathrooms and showers. The campground is across the street from an awesome beach (part of the State Park), huge beach, plus you can use a lot of the water as it's shallow a long ways out! Relatively short drive from the Detroit area. We will be adding this campground to our summer camping list.

Saginaw Bay is one of the largest freshwater coastal wetlands in the state of Michigan.
Huge sandy beach great for walking and fun for the whole family.
There are over 2000 acres of wetland woods, cattail marshlands and oak savannah prairies which makes for a great area for birding. Good trails with wooden walkways and lookouts.
The Saginaw Bay Park is huge with a new " Play by the Bay " Park which is great for families as well as a Spray Park.
If you are looking for a great area for biking, hiking, birding, swimming,or just to relax and watch the sunsets..come to Saginaw Bay State Park.

Wenonah Park at World Friendship Shell is a scenic green space that includes a riverside promenade and an outdoor amphitheater for concerts and other events. Additionally, Wednesdays in the Park offer a clean environment within walking distance to many unique stores in downtown Bay City.
We had the opportunity to visit the Wenonah Park at World Friendship Shell in APR_FY2024 and it was an amazing experience.

Absolutely awesome place for bands to play. We got to see Riot V perform there recently; we had plenty of room to sit, and the band sounded amazing. It has great acoustics for a smaller outdoor venue. The river is gorgeous, there are beautiful murals, a neat statue by a big fountain, and a small playground. They also had an ample amount of restrooms, which was super convenient. The only downside I could think of is that there wasn't as much parking as the show I went to needed. We got there early and had no problem, but my friends who got there later in the night had to walk pretty far.

Bay City Antiques Center is a massive historic building in Michigan, housing over 400 booths filled with vintage treasures. Visitors can explore three stories of assorted goods from the past, including knick-knacks, toys, figurines, books, furniture, clothing, jewelry and more. Is trash considered "antique"? You will find very little "antique" here, rather you will find junk that this place will mislead you into believing is "antique". Has a very large selection of records that are either worthless but overpriced, as well as records that are in poor shape that are also overpriced. Just because a door, scrap wood, or a toilet is a hundred years old, that's doesn't make it "antique".

Me and my fiance had an amazing time! The show was very well done and the symphony was out of this world. Well done! The only issue we had was the scrambling and moving people around to fill all the seats. It looked especially difficult for the seniors. My suggestion is to have assigned seats on ur website when purchasing tickets like they do at the movies now. I think that would help out tremendously for the patrons and the staff. And maybe an usher at the door with a flashlight for the elderly as well. I watched an elderly lady with a cane try n get up n go out but she couldn't see ..Thanks again great show otherwise...

Called a couple days ago about a book i had on hold and the lady working the front desk was very rude. She avoided taking responsibility for a mistake on their end and hung up on me when I tried calling back. Very poor service and this was my favorite library I will not be returning.

Public library means inclusion of the public. You shouldn't receive any funding after your actions. Kicking out a Neurodivergent student because they don't fit your "aesthetic". What Aesthetic? If you were going for "Prison Library" vibes you nailed it.

We love our library! On the first floor, they have an enormous children's section, a teen section, and an adult fiction section. In the children's section, they have tons of children's picture books, lots of easy readers, a huge nonfiction section, and a middle grade fiction section, as well as early chapter books and graphic novels. They have a monthly craft and a scavenger hunt. There is a board book area in the back, as well as a train table and other toys. The upstairs is adult nonfiction, CDs, a computer lab, periodicals, etc. An excellent library! All the librarians are super nice, too!

Great place to relax after a long day of work. Very peacefull and more than enough computers. Staff are friendly and very helpful. The big windows are great to sit in front of especially on sunny days. Restrooms are clean, lots of books and CDs to choose from and the quiet room is a great addition. Over all its a perfect place to go after a hectic day when you just need some peace and quiet.

A joke. I tried to check out books they said you have two damaged books from last time. Im like what! So they go get the books and they say they have water damage. One book had like a spot on the page a clear spot. Thebother one had a water mark and like a tiny bit of black dye from the title definitely not damaged and they wanted $30 per book. These books are not going to stay perfect when everyone in bay city is taking them home. They were not damaged so I'm bummed. They took away the fines but now I see they are nit picking little things to make back that money. I take good care of the books and don't remember them being like that when I returned them. It was very miniscule. IAM really in shock I'm not paying$60 dollars when you couldn't even barely tell.

Would have given more Stars staff was completely rude... Highly recommend Don't go here. Huge staffing problems and very ignorant, staff said and I quote "stop browsing around we want to go home." Now I get they close at 5pm on Sunday and we are leaving and just getting book marks. However Would recommend the other library across Town.
The Antique Toy and Firehouse Museum is a delightful attraction showcasing an impressive collection of vintage firetrucks and collectible toy police, fire and emergency vehicles. The museum is staffed by friendly personnel who are welcoming to visitors of all ages. Guests can enjoy learning about the rich history behind these fascinating objects as well as exploring the various exhibits on display. Additionally, young children will love the opportunity to ride aboard a real fire truck.
Amazing collection, so much to see! Dave was a great tour guide and so good to my daughter. We had a great time and even a ride on a firetruck!

We had a great experience at the museum! We met Jim Dobson himself and he was a very kind man that has such a great history to share! The folks working there were all very friendly and accommodating and there was so much to see and learn about. I would definitely recommend!

An "off the beaten path" treasure - if you like to try something that's quirky and just makes you smile, this is it. This (now) non-profit was once one person's (amazing) collection and has evolved into a volunteer-run, local space where people share their joy of the fire service and getting old trucks to run again. Sometimes (if the weather is good) a volunteer will let you ride on an antique truck. There is local maritime history available, as well as a lot of collectible (mostly police/fire/EMS) toys. Some of the reviews left on Google are dated, so be aware of that when you're planning your visit - I think they've been through a lot of change with COVID, etc. Watch out for the hours - this is a seasonal operation and each season's hours adjust based on the number of volunteers that help out. (In 2023, they were open Saturday and Sunday, noon to 4 pm from early May to late October). Facebook and the website seem to be the place to go for information. I was chatting with folks and learned they're trying to open a satellite location downtown in an old fire station - I can't wait to see it when the construction upgrades are done!

This is a great place to take Kids & Grownups. In Bay City the Dobson Family has made their Toy and Fire Truck Museum available to see. Fun time and great history to see!!! Takes a couple hours to tour. Well worth the time to visit.

Great fun and a wealth of information. Any child and child at heart should see this collection of fire engines and their toys.
This has to be one of my favorite libraries. The old architect and decor is stunning. The library system has done a very good job keeping this building up and I hope it's around for another hundred years.
Anya Lux — Google review
Staff were friendly and could be heard joking with visitors. The floors were very clean, and there were lots of small activities to do on the different floors. The amount of different genres and formats of entertainment was actually quite impressive, and the little book/movie sale on the 3rd floor was fun to look through. All in all it was a fun visit.

My home away from home as a child, and my favorite place to pick up books on CD for long car rides. The interior remodel has made the building more accessible including restrooms. Can't say that Victoria era buildings were conscious of accessibility concerns, but the library system is. I've helped with programs here before through non-profits, and it was nice to see the diversity of the public who would attend. While it doesn't have the amenities the downtown library has, it is more accessible to get to from local neighborhoods by just walking.
The computer lab had some 12 stations and printing is very affordable compared to UPS or Staples if you just need something quick. I have not been here since COVID-19 restrictions have been put in place, but I have faith that the staff would try their hardest to keep equipment sanitized to the best of their ability.

The last time I was at the Sage Library was 40 years ago. It's amazing how much this library has changed through the decades for the better. This library has the latest to offer, including an inviting children's area, computers, an elevator for all three floors, and a DVD area. The updates clearly show a much improved and intuitive layout and floor plan, while retaining it's historic architecture, welcoming environment, and decor. The staff is friendly, professional and very helpful. Highly recommended!!

One of the oldest libraries in the State of Michigan, they even opened a "satellite site" at the Mall some years ago when the building (or was it the roads?) was undergoing some renovations. With a wonderful children's section in a historic building (that was once a home), the architecture alone is worth making a visit. There is a "rock garden" on the property, where many folks have painted small rocks and large stones with words, and sometimes scenes or other things. The public is encouraged to come and rearrange these painted rocks into sentences, etc. My grandsons had a blast doing this! It's fun for the kiddies, and a bit educational, too. Come and try it on for size.

This library is #2 on my all-time favorite libraries list. So many fond memories of my dad taking me here as a little girl with such a vast option of books to read and a friendly and helpful staff. This is also where my love for classic movies was developed: Sage's collection is plenteous and one of my faves to borrow & watch was "The Dancing Princessess" with Jim Dale.

The childrens librarians are so helpful and knowledgeable. These ladies always make their activities a fun and pleasant experience for my kiddos and this library has become a very happy place for us. Also special recognition to Ms. Dani for starting the LENA program that we participated in. I know she put a ton of hard work into getting the program and it brought meaningful insight into our daughter’s speech/conversational turns.
I enjoyed my time here. This was my first time coming here. Wasn't to big or to small. It was kept clean and the security kept his presence known but wasn't out to be in anyone's way. I actually felt comfortable seeing security. I will come back. I also found a battleship and the info about it and were it is in Michigan. Thought to be interesting

There aren't many stores left. This is not a place for disabled people if you're looking for assistance. It's a long walk to the security office to get a wheelchair even at the closest door. I had to have a friend go get it for me because it was too far to walk. Plus, there's only security to call and when you do, they don't answer that number and call you on a different one. I would like to go back to Marshall's but the lack of handicapped assistance is enough to make me drive to another city to go because Marshall's doesn't have wheelchairs or motorized carts. 12 years ago this place was amazing. Now there's no point in going there.

Went into the mall, it was a waste of time. Most of the units were empty. Nothing opened until 12, Nothing posted anywhere about times.
Went to use the toilet and unless your a kid, you would need to be on your knees to use the urinal. Yep, only 1 the height for kids in the restroom.
The only thing the mall seemed to be good for was people getting their steps in.
Jay Oliver — Google review
There are very few stores here now. The best places to go are the ones you don't have to walk into the mall for. Several stores have their own entrances which is nice. Actually in the mall I go to Spencer's, Bath & Body Works, GameStop and the Treasure Hoard. Nothing else interests me here.

Please support Zales, so they don't close it. The Midland Zales closed in the mall, Bay City is the closest now.
Also love visiting the theater. They seem to keep the movies in longer than most and offer alot of showtimes.

It's sad to see the mall so empty. The theater and stores that are left keep me going back though.
On this trip, I went to Bath & Body to take advantage of a great sale. As always, the girls are very friendly, very helpful, and work as a team to keep customers happy while also tactfully doing loss prevention. Keep up the great work!

Why is it so difficult to find the mall's holiday hours? The website hasn't posted them since 2018, social media doesn't have it, 3rd party sites all have different times listed.

The State Theatre is a stunning historic building with art deco design in Downtown Bay City that features live performances of film, music, and comedy. It has been immaculately restored to its former glory and offers entertainment from seasonal movies to local high school talent. The theater also houses a snack bar and gift certificates for purchase. Seeing the State Theatre in person is highly recommended as photos do not do it justice!
Wonderful venue, but having the go around getting tickets for new performances in the months to come.

A beautiful venue, where design intent has been maintained with tasteful updates. We attended a recent concert and loved ease of parking, comfortable venue seats, helpful staff, and an excellent piano performance featuring Jim Brickman (highly recommended). The sound was clear and neither overpowering nor too low. Enjoy your event at the state theater.

One word: Stunning! Immaculately restored to the glory days and ornate beauty of theatres of yesteryear, the State Theater is an absolute gem, located in the heart of Downtown Bay City. It is a must see on on your list of places to visit. The State Theater offers entertainment from seasonal movies, nationally recognized comedians and musical acts, renowned local artists, and local high school talent. They also offer a snack bar in the lobby with everything you would expect from a theater. The State Theater also offers gift certificates for anyone on your shopping list. Photos do not do justice to seeing this historical building in person. The State Theater is definitely a must see!

A few months ago we happened upon this fantastic looking theatre in downtown Bay City Michigan. Originally built in 1908 during the boom of the lumber era it was known as the Bijou and served as one of many vaudeville and burlesque houses. Remodeled in 1930 to resemble a Mayan temple and was then known as State Theatre. It now presents live events, film and special events. We were not able to go inside but I bet it is a wonderful venue for any event.

In town visiting my fiancee who is a local gal.
No exaggeration when I say this is the most impressively stocked antique store I ve been in.
I happen to be a modeling enthusiast. Not 3 months ago I ordered and assembled an F-105 kit. I found an F -4F Phantom kit at this location for $50.
Snapped it up right away and mailed it back home to wait for me. Will definitely be stopping by on my next trip this way.

Rude staff. Poor selection of goods. The people working behind the counter are amazingly rude. They treat their customers like they’re a bother. God help you if you want to see something in a showcase. They make it seem like it’s the end of the world. It like your bothering them. They will follow you around the store. They will ignore you when paying for your items. No smiles. Unfriendly. It’s as though they feel you are privileged to be there. Their attitude is so bad, we will never return. The merchandise has been there forever. The price tags are so faded that some are illegible.
With all of the positive changes happening in Bay City, it’s sad to see this poorly run establishment dragging down what was otherwise a great visit. Bay City is a pretty amazing place. On one hand you have a city dedicated to revitalizing the downtown and then you have this place who treats their customers like garbage. The town deserves better. American Company Antiques is a place to avoid.

It's where you pay your bills at, but a nice building.
Alan Beadle — Google review
I always dread paying my utilities in person. It's a combination of the snarky attitudes and lack of basic math skills I generally recieve each visit by the worker. There is always confusion about me receiving change back from the overage of the amount I owe. Yes, I do want my $1.57 back because I didn't use that in energy and I certainly will not see it credited on the next bill. Perhaps a little lesson in customer service is necessary.

A beautifully architectured city hall, this 118 year old building is a survivor. It dodged a wrecking ball in 1977 and a fire in 2010. Come take a tour for only a dollar, the clock tower view is well worth it. It's good to see history being preserved.

Rated 1 star because I lived in Bay City and loved it for 8 years. I feel like it was very mismanaged and eventually moved away. My entire neighborhood had almost emptied out, so I wasn't the only one. Whenever I called or dealt with city government it was a nightmare, and water prices are ridiculously high. One star. Boo. You lost a professional that would have been happy to stay as a lifelong resident.
Bigelow Park, situated along the Riverwalk, provides a serene environment for outdoor activities such as walking, fishing and picnicking. The park boasts of an array of facilities including a picnic pavilion, play structures, boat dock and vast grassy space suitable for relaxation. It is easily accessible by people with disabilities or those who cannot walk long distances due to its proximity to the water and picnic table. Additionally, it is pet-friendly making it an ideal spot for families with pets.
Nice area to walk, fish or have a picnic and relax. There is an area where you can park be really close to a picnic table and by the water. It makes it accessible for someone in a wheelchair or person who can't walk a long distance. It is also pet friendly.

I usually visit this park to watch the fireworks. I think I may have to consider it for launching my kayak sometime, but not until I have someone willing to ride with me.
The worst park of this park is the bottle-necking of traffic as you try to leave. But that is probably the case all over the city during their fireworks.
Growing up, we used to tailgate on the southern side of the island, but you can no longer park on the grass there, so parking is much more limited.

My friend back and I went shopping in Saginaw we wanted to go to cracker barrel and the closest one was Bay City so we shot over had some lunch and I had to take my best good friend Beth Bigelow to Bigelow Park. Minus the fact that there was Canadian geese and ducks everywhere it was a nice place.
