The Patee House Museum and Jesse James Homes is a well-organized showcase of Western artifacts that serves as the former Pony Express headquarters and Civil War Union outpost. The museum features an impressive exhibit on the Pony Express and a Main Street walkthrough, providing visitors with a glimpse into what life was like during that era. To fully appreciate the exhibits, one must take their time to read through each description. Visitors can explore multiple levels via an elevator while enjoying the Pantee Carosel.
It's impossible to describe the collection here. You have to see it for yourself. What a great window into the history of St. Joseph. It was an accident that I stumbled in and I'm so glad I did.

Interesting visit wotth an hour or so. You can easily spend several hours in you read everything.
Jesse James house was cool. Neat to see the room and .
Amazing the Patee House was the finest hotel west of the Mississippi, and how in a rough and tough run down area.

This museum is very well put together. It has a great exhibit on the Pony Express It has a Main Street walkthrough where you felt like you were put back into time and got to walk into each one of the shops and see what it would be like during that time frame. To get the full experience, be ready to take some time and read the description on each exhibit. There are multiple levels to explore and an elevator to move between the floors. The Pantee Carosel is also a must see. Overall worth the time to explore this museum!

Amazing museum! There was so much to look at and you even got to go into the train. There were very nice little buildings that showed how everything used to look and you could spend hours there just looking at everything. There were a lot of things you could interact with as well and overall I highly reccomend this museum to anyone interested.

3 floors of great items from the past. Only $7 to get in. Well worth it. But give yourself time because there is so much to see.

This museum is an absolute gem; hours will melt away taking in all the great pieces and stories here.

We wanted to visit the Patee House. When we entered we were told: Sorry, we'll be closing IN 15 MINUTES! Well, then I wanted at least watch one or the other in a quick run while my wife sat down on the "horn couch" and waited for me. So I only wanted to pay one entrance fee, but the lady at the register took $14 from my VISA card for two people. I was back in 14.5 minutes only to be told I had half an hour left! ?!?!?

I really enjoy going to museums and this one is definitely worthy of your time. If you are ever in the St. Joe area, stop in and check it out. Also, they have the house Jesse James was killed in on site, too. Small extra fee, though

Patee house was probably a nice museum, the staff was so rude, we drove 90 minutes to see this, arrived 30 minutes before close, and they advertised 4pm closing, it closes at 3:45pm, you are warned, we needed the restroom when we got there, she said that's for paying customers only, of course we pay at all places we go and donate generously, we love history. Terrible woman and this place in a VERY scary neighborhood, lock your car. It is a well kept museum. We ran through in about 10 after a 5 minute bathroom break.

The Patee House Museum is quite a fantastic place. The history they have captured is amazing. You would never believe they have a train station AND a train in here. There is so much to see on the 3 floors of this surprising museum. You need to go out of your way to experience this gem. DO IT !!!

Excellent museum of the old midwest. Old hotel, original headquarters of the Pony Express. Every display is a collection of different regions historical artifacts. For example, one room is Walter Cronkite's fathers dental office. Walter Cronkite was born in St. Joseph and his grandfather and father were dentists there. They recently opened the 3rd floor so you can see the original hotel rooms. Second time here, did not pay the extra $ to see Jessy James house this time.

Well worth the $8 per person for my wife and I. We spent over 2 hours walking around and reading the many, many exhibits. We just came to St. Joseph for a little getaway for a couple of day, and I am so glad we chose to go through this museum. It gives you a great feel for the history of the whole town and area not just the building. Also some great western history in general.
Also, it is really well kept up. Kudos to the association. It is in a part of town (we walked all through downtown) that is fairly run down, but the museum is fantastically well kept.

What a great surprise! We came for the Jesse James House, which was small but fun and informative. Ended going to the Patee House next door and WOW! You could spend days in there! Little bit of everything, would DEFINITELY recommend! Gorgeous working carousel too!
The Glore Psychiatric Museum is an unusual and fascinating attraction dedicated to the history of mental healthcare. It spans four floors and showcases a vast collection of surgical tools, equipment, and artwork created by asylum patients. Along with its displays on the specific museum's history, it examines psychiatric care throughout history in general. While there are smaller companion museums nearby, visitors should prepare to spend at least three hours exploring this informative and intriguing site.
What an incredibly unique and interesting place! I was expecting something smaller, but this is four floors of relics and stories from the history of psychiatric care in general as well as the history of this specific psychiatric museum. Definitely worth the price of admission, and I highly recommend it to everyone!

Amazing history and display setup.
If you ever get to visit St Joseph Missouri, you have to visit this place.
The price of entrance was $8 per person. They had a cute little gift shop with different things you could purchase.
Jaesyn Micoli — Google review
A great collection of asylum artifacts and a couple other collections added in as well.
The artifacts did a great job of telling the tale of the asylum over time and really bringing to life some of the experiences of patients and staff.
For those who fancy learning about psychology or psychiatry it was a great way to see some of tools and equipment up close and really take in some atmosphere.
The staff was super friendly and helpful. The gift shop has some interesting offerings beyond the typical generic offerings seen most places.
The other attached collections are well worth the time, and contained some great pieces tying in to local history and reflecting on the events of national importance.

Omg where to begin, This place was super cool to go through.. no words to describe it. Make sure to give yourself a couple hours to go through all of it. Very nice price to see all of that. Many pictures will be taken🫣😂...

Lots to wander through and see. The people were super nice and helpful. It was interesting and there was a lot besides just the asylum part. Kids had fun.

This was my second time visiting the museum, and I thoroughly enjoyed it again! The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable if you have questions about anything. The information and displays throughout were very informative and really managed to depict what the state asylum was like during its time. If you like psychology, spooky things, or both, this is definitely a place you should visit!

A very educational museum!!! The stories that we need to know aren't always the easiest to hear. If you want to learn and do better, there needs to be a conversation about the past❤️

This is a great museum to stop and learn about the history of this location. We had a great time reading and learning about the state hospital, and we would absolutely recommend this as a quick place to stop and learn some really interesting facts about the history of psychiatry.

Very informative and cool to go see. If you like the creepy vibe you should go to the lowest level to the morgue. They also have a few other museums attached that are smaller. Be ready to spend at least three hours there. Only down side is all of the reading.

Amazing place to learn a little history especially about some of the trauma and general hardships some of the folks there went through!
Lane Chesterman — Google review
The history of the museum revealed some horrible treatment methods utilized by physicians in the past. The museum houses a very detailed collection of medical and physical evidence of how mental health was addressed in the past. It is still frightening to think that women, and men , were once institutionalized simply because they spoke their minds or “danced to the beat of their own drums”.. Admission fee was $10.00 for us , but rates were lower for children and senior citizens.
Lisa Holley — Google review
Lots to read and provided a great look back as to how we've treated mental health in recent history. I'm a psychologist and the visit was one of my favorite activities on the trip. My husband enjoyed it, but not as much. Staff was friendly and helpful, but a bit strange. ;)
Amie Kirby — Google review
The museum had a lot of information, and we spent a couple of hours walking around. There was a lot of new information that surprised us. The front desk clerk wasn't exactly friendly, but we might have just caught her on an off day. We would recommend for adults and teens.
Note to management: the pond outside needs maintenance. The fish's water is dirt and not pump isn't working. The filter is clogged and needs to be cleaned.
Kristy C — Google review
Equal parts interesting, creepy, and saddening. So glad this museum is open to the public to see how previous mental health treatment was like. It occurred to me while exploring that we just never really know what’s better until something new comes along. I felt so much empathy for the patients that had to endure some unusual and somewhat brutal forms of therapy because their mental health condition was not yet fully understood. We are in a much better place today for treatments and I am so grateful. In the future there will likely be improved methods, but at least we are making efforts to become aware. This experience is so unique!

Awesome place that I visited when I was 12 and made my hubby stop with me at on our way home at 33. Even after 21 years the place still looks virtually the same. Love the entire experience, and I feel like it has been updated a bit to fit the times. My favorite part was the psych artifacts and the African American exhibit. They say it takes 1.5 hours to go thru...but I felt like I was rushing it and we spent over 2 hours! Loved it and thank you!

The Pony Express National Museum showcases the historical cross-country delivery service through skilled riders on horseback in the 1860s. The museum features impressive exhibits that highlight the challenges faced by these legendary riders, who transported mail from St Joe to Sacramento. Historian Gary Westcott delivered an exceptional presentation on the history of Lake Contrary, drawing a large crowd to Tuesday Night Talks, which were held later than usual this year in Spring.
Great museum, showing the history of Saint Joseph Pony Express. The family and kids enjoyed the experience. The staff was very informative and so polite. Thank you

A super cool historical site! You get a great history of the Pony Express with some Westward expansion tucked in. There was an original hand-dug well kids can pump water from, and lots of other hands-on exhibits. There is also a fantastic little kid's room. You can even see some of the original foundations. It is cool that part of the building is original as well. We really enjoyed our time here.

We took our 2 yo and 1 yo (both well behaved). Both the men’s and ladies bathrooms have changing tables and VERY clean. Our kids loved finding all the horses and enjoyed trying to do the pump to water the cows. Which gave us a moment to read what was around us. And we LOVED the kids play room! Oh goodness the play room was clean and well kept and so cute! They also have stamps and crayon scratching the kids can do. Overall it was so much fun and our kids loved it!

Caught the final Tuesday Night Talks of the season. Gary Westcott, an accomplished historian, did an excellent presentation on The History of Lake Contrary. The TNT are usually held during the Winter but were pushed into Springtime this year. Attendance at TNT was a very full house as many flocked to hear and see Gary's interesting presentation. The doors opened at 6:15 pm with refreshments and the presentation began at 7:00, lasting until 9:00.

Great history lesson of the short lived Pony Express started in St. Joseph, Mo. This is an excellent museum to bring groups too. So much to see along with interaction stations. It is a self guided tour with a 16 minute informative movie. I was there 2 hrs and could have slowed down for a bit longer. So happy I discovered this history preserving gem. Not expensive and has a wonderful gift shop.

Krug Park is a picturesque destination featuring a lagoon, extensive trails, a playground, and an exhibit of native animals amidst beautifully landscaped surroundings. Visitors can capture memorable photos or indulge in outdoor activities such as biking, hiking or fishing with their families. The park also boasts of a unique castle structure that visitors can drive underneath and explore ruins and structures around the area. Additionally, there are clean basic bathroom facilities available for public use.
This is our go to place for Christmas lights every year! We love the water feature, the different stations, the food truck, santa station, tunnels, and cherry mash. We always get a large funnel cake to share among my kids with either a hot cocoa or apple cider. Santa is free and available every Friday&Saturdays before Christmas eve. My kids love to honk under the tunnels! You can’t beat this place anywhere with the quality of what you’ll see or enjoy and its free to the public. Thank you for the volunteers and staff who put all the effort every year!

Our family stopped here on our way through to SD. We enjoyed exploring the ruins and structures and walking up to the waterfall. The bathrooms are basic but they were clean.
The pavilion and playground both looked nice, too.

One of the most beautiful parks I've ever been to. Huge and varied, with history going back to the 1920’s. It has seen better days, and the children's playground equipment has been taken down (probably because it was 30 feet tall in some places, and completely made out of rusting metal) which is a shame because when I was a kid, it was the most fun someone could have in a playground. Despite that it's still an almost ethereal experience, and you can see the past in its bones. Hopefully this park will continue to be here for generations to come.

It has good has it once was when I was growing up but still a beautiful place to come and take family photos and spend quality time with them as well. The waterfall has always been my favorite I wish they would bring back the animals in the back and do more Christmas lights. If we could just get more people to donate it could happen.

Fantastic place for pictures and a romantic walk through the park. Stunning infrastructure and overall just a nice place to meditate. However, there is a bit of graffiti and trash in areas. In addition, the bathrooms could use some work. For some reason the floor at the urinal is raised and allows for one to see above the stalls with ease.

My siblings and I were visiting Saint Joseph and looking for outdoor activities to do with our dogs. We chose the Remington Nature Center as our trailhead to stroll along the Saint Joseph Riverwalk, and it was a lovely outing!
The Riverwalk winds along the east bank of the Missouri River, and as we walked we were treated to beautiful views of the river, shaded by huge trees in full leaf, and serenaded by dozens of songbirds in the foliage along the trail. The city has done a great job of beautification of the area, and the place is idyllic.
After our walk, we wanted to visit the Nature Center; since dogs aren’t allowed, my sister stayed with our pets while my brother and I took a quick tour.
It’s a delightful little center, and eclectic in its offerings. It has a large freshwater aquarium, several small aquariums with exotic and local fauna, stuffed specimens of larger mammals (such as black bear, bison, and deer), one interactive area with the life cycle of water and another with sounds of the forest and prairie along with information about what animal makes them. There’s even a cool exhibit that shows the paw prints of different animals one might encounter in the region. Finally, there’s a larger exhibit that occupies several rooms and traces the history of the St Joseph area from the earliest human inhabitants through the 20th century. It was fascinating to look at all the displays and see the history of the region unfold!
The center is very user-friendly and welcomes children and groups. One of the events going on when we were there was a scavenger hunt for rubber ducks that had been stashed in strategic places throughout the center. It was great fun to see the kids searching so hard for each duck! It certainly seemed to help them focus on all the exhibits and displays.
We appreciate the work of Remington Nature Center and look forward to visiting again in the future.

I visited on free museum day in Sept 2023. I had never heard of this place, but it is a gem! It is an incredibly kid friendly place. All the displays are at kid eye level, easy to read the plaques, and very interactive.
There are taxidermy creatures from within the area, facts about Missouri statehood symbols (who knew we have a state horse) and a walk through Saint Joseph from all eras. It was really really cool! I also loved the reptile & axotle room (and like any true Millennial, I tried to speak parsletongue to the snakes.)
Great lil gift shop and a beautiful view of the Missouri River. I saw so many families enjoying themselves today and it makes me incredibly happy ❤️

I have kids under 11 and they thought this place was okay. You are meet with a large fish tank. There are stuffed animals throughout and a large exhibit on the history of the St. Joseph area. The price is reasonable for what you get. It sits near the river so we were able to go for a little walk after we visited.
It was an interesting drive to this location, but it felt as though you were walking back in time. The home itself had been moved from its original location but the interior was preserved. If you enjoy history, I highly recommend stopping here. Tons of history and original pieces of artifacts that had been discovered or donated.

Supposed to close at 4, walked into the tiny 3 room house at 3:43, gruff manly attendant said I don't let anyone in after 15 minutes til 4, you can look at the bullet hole and that's it. Like what could you find more than that to see? Not really much, little bits crammed in there, I will add the pics I took in about 5 minutes. Luckily the price is cheap. Warning, get there at opening. It is included in the pony express museum next door, and lock your car doors it is a VERY rotten neighborhood.

This is a great little museum I just happened to find on my way through Missouri. When I was younger, I used to watch the old Jesse James movies: The Long Riders, Jesse James with Tyrone Powers, and most recently The Assassination of Jesse James with Brad Pit. I always wondered how easy it was for Bob Ford to kill him. After seeing the house and the room where he died, it was almost point blank. If you happen to go anywhere close to St. Joseph, MO, go see this great little museum.
Chip Wells — Google review
Great stop! Just $4 to enter house which is priced right for the size of it. The house was originally way up the hill with no one around it, a perfect view to see anyone approaching his rental, and very private. Can you imagine how on edge he must have always been?! Then to let his guard down one beautiful day...and be shot in the back by his young crony. Excellent friendly & informative docent...we learned so much! Spent about 1 hr here and def saw everything. Check out the tapestry he was straightening (wedding gift from his mom supposedly) & the bullet hole below it. DON'T MISS the bloodstain hole in the floor (others just cruised on by and missed a lot). Jesse's body was buried 3 times. The last time they found all the deteriorated pieces that are laid out in the case....including the bullet he carried in his lung. Very cool! Google & listen to a folk song about the dirty little coward who shot Mr. Howard. That was Jesse using a fictitious name...Mr. Howard...the song is about him! DON'T MISS the amazing Patee Museum next door!!!!!!

From the second you walk up, your pumped up to go inside. Though its very small. Its big enough to tell the story. You get a voice over tutorial of what happened in the house so long ago. Tons of parking and east access. The hole in the wall were Jesse James was shot and a replica of his skull is a very cool but eerie thing to see. Kid friendly and cost is 4.00 a person to go through the house. Well worth every penny. Highly recommend a visit.
The Walter Cronkite Memorial is a remarkable museum that pays tribute to the iconic American news anchor and St. Joseph native, Walter Cronkite. Isobel and her beautiful Shakespeare themed B&B made the end of our family road trip amazing! We got a last minute booking to the Romeo and Juliet suite and were not disappointed. The bed was comfortable and the jetted tub was awesome. We loved looking at the original architecture and furnishings. Isobel made us the most delicious hot breakfast and even made me a waffle without dairy because I couldn’t have dairy at the time while breast feeding. She was welcoming to us even though we had a 2mo with us which was refreshing. The place is walkable to restaurants and shops and next to a bunch of other beautiful buildings. I’m glad we stayed here instead of a normal hotel in KC. She has done an amazing job restoring the natural beauty of the home. I highly recommend visiting! Thanks again, Isobel!

This is a wonderful place. The historical value along with the fantastic restoration, especially the stained glass windows and woodwork, make the visit worth it alone. We stayed in the Verona suite which was clean, comfortable and very spacious. The crustless quiche we have for breakfast was one of the best I ever had, got the recipe. Isobel gave us a tour of the place giving us even more insight to the history of the mansion. Fantastic place, highly recommend it.

Absolutely amazing stay. Isobel was very welcoming, explained everything wonderfully, and was able to accommodate a nut allergy. We stayed in the Twelfth Night Suite and while I was initially disappointed that there was no tub (I didn't book the room) - I was PLEASANTLY surprised by how delightful the extra shower jets were. The bed was also EXTREMELY comfortable - we slept like babies. Breakfast was amazing. Overall super delighted and will defiantly be back - maybe next time in the Romeo & Juliet suite!

Fantastic historic building that has been beautifully restored. The floor, trim, and wall finishes and decorative pieces are magnificent.
Isobel is friendly and knowledgeable. Breakfast was super yummy. The beds were comfortable, climate control in the room worked well, and everything was very clean. Highly recommend!

What an incredible place paired with equally incredible service.
The Chateau was gorgeous and full of history. I’ve never seen a place with such beautiful woodwork and stained glass windows. Isobel was so kind to answer all my questions and dive into the history of St. Joe and the house itself, clearly a huge passion of hers. My wife and I stayed in the Romeo and Juliet suite and it was so cozy we had a hard time leaving. I was impressed how clean and functional everything was given the age of the home, Isobel left no detail untouched.
Isobel was always available to address our needs. I showed up to breakfast an hour early one morning by accident and that didn’t matter, she adjusted for me. The next morning I showed up an hour late to breakfast, when I went downstairs expecting to only have coffee available, she still prepared and served us our breakfast which was so kind and not expected.
My only concern before arriving was the location not being very central. Turns out I was wrong. My wife and I could get to any of the restaurants downtown or off Fredrick in 3 to 5 min drive. Everywhere else in town could be driven to within 10min.
We’ll be back.
(PS - Glory is wearing a jacket in photos only because we were on our way out the door. The home was set a very comfortable temperature and our room had an independent thermostat just for us.)

What a great little place to stay. This place was reasonably priced with excellent service. Isobel was extremely kind and loves the property and the history. She makes breakfast herself and it was a top notch breakfast. I admit I was scared I might accidentally break something when you are staying in a house over a hundred years old. I recommend the Romeo and Juliet suite. Great way to impress your lady.

Shakespeare Chateau and Isobel gave us a dream anniversary. The property is immaculate and so very beautiful. We stayed in the Romeo and Juliet and the room was so well thought out and comfortable. It really feels like going back in time with modern comforts.
Breakfast on both days were well thought out and it was evident that they were made with love. SO tasty and refreshing.
Isobel greeted us at the door and immediately made us feel welcome. We got a tour of the house with emphasis on the history and architecture. It was so evident that Isobel had poured her heart and soul into the residence and into the surrounding community. We came as customers and feel as if we left as friends.
We HIGHLY recommend staying here. So much so that we plan on making a yearly trip to visit our new friend in her amazing bed and breakfast. Thank you Isobel!

My husband and I stayed for the weekend as a 23rd anniversary trip. We could not have picked a better place. The home is amazing and comfortable. The rooms are inviting and ample. We stayed in the twelfth night room, and let me tell you, that shower alone is worth a stay. Breakfast both mornings was truly delicious. I have gluten and dairy allergies and Isobel truly out did herself with the yummy muffins, fluffy eggs and the best waffle I've ever had. It was so big I could only eat half. Thank you, Isobel for making us feel so at home in your beautiful inn. We look forward to coming back soon.

We booked this to try something new and we definitely was not disappointed. Upon arrival the place was beautiful. We were greeted by Isobel who was very nice. She explained how everything worked and showed us around. So much history! 7 foot stained glass panels in the staircase that has dragons carved in them. They place was so quiet. Everything was very clean. We could come and go as we please. The breakfast was delicious scones and fresh fruit because we wanted a lighter breakfast. They shoes were amazing! Would definitely recommend staying here.

We had an absolutely stellar stay at this beautiful, one-of-a-kind B&B. The owner greeted us warmly, catered to our request for early check in, and even let us join the tour that was scheduled slightly after our arrival. The architecture and history of the house is incredible. We were quite comfortable during our stay, and breakfast was delicious. Highly recommend for a romantic getaway.

Our recent stay at the Shakespeare Chateau was one we will always remember. The renovated mansion is absolutely beautiful. Isobel gave us such a warm welcome that we felt comfortable during our entire stay. We also enjoyed meeting other guests at breakfast. St. Joseph has many museums and places of interest but our stay would not have been the same without the time spent at Shakespeare Chateau. We definitely recommend it and would love to stay there again.

My husband and I spent our 1 year wedding anniversary here. The building was stunning, as well as our room. We were looking for someplace wonderful to have a lazy stay-in celebration and we found it.
The breakfast was amazing both mornings and while we did have to drive a few minutes out, we found a couple of awesome restaurants fairly close by.
I would also like to add that there was an outdoor cat on the property that I named “Thumbs” because they had thumbs on one front paw and one back paw- a huge plus for me.
Thanks for the wonderful place to celebrate one year of marriage. I would love to make this an annual stay.

Shakespeare Chateau is the very definition of a destination stay. This historic 1888 mansion is so beautifully restored and furnished it will take your breath away. The rooms have modern amenities while also still immersing you in the original history of the home. Isobel is so knowledgeable not only about her Inn, but also the history of Hall Street and the other remaining mansions there and around St. Joseph. Breakfasts are served at the time of your choosing and always deliciously prepared and beautifully presented. Whether you love the bed & breakfast experience or have never tried it, I can with great confidence tell you the Shakespeare Chateau will not disappoint.

The Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art is an exquisite exhibition space housed in a former mansion that features a collection of American art spanning from the 18th century to modern times. Although not vast, the museum boasts an impressive array of interesting artwork with a permanent exhibit on the left side and temporary exhibitions on the right. The current exhibit highlights two artists from Kansas City, while downstairs showcases high school artwork from surrounding communities.
What a treasure! We were pleasantly surprised by the artistic range of the art in this small collection. It's primarily (white) American artists from the past three centuries, but with a few diverse cultural critiques too.
The permanent exhibit has several salon-style sections with many pieces displayed close together in a collage (higher and lower than normal on the wall, too). This makes it possible to display more art, as well as creating meaningful combinations.
The day we visited, they were setting up a delightful temporary exhibit with whimsical pieces by current women artists. A second temporary exhibit on the lower level will feature photography by regional artists.
Save time to see the fun range of items in the gift shop. And don't miss several sculptures outside on the grounds!

This small art museum has just enough to wet ones appetite to see more. In the gift shop area they have a few area artists work for sale. A revolving collection as well. Beautiful old home enlarged to accommodate more beautiful pieces. Welcoming environment.

The art museum isn't to big, but it does have some really interesting artwork! Once you walk in the left hand side of the building is a permanent exhibit, the right hand side is a temporary exhibit which currently features two artists out of Kansas City, and the downstairs is all highschool artwork from the surrounding communities.
The price to get in for adults were $5 a piece and we were there for roughly 45 minutes. Even then if you truly take your time, you could spend about an hour or two here. Definitely check the art museum out and the workers are super friendly!

East Hills Mall is a combination of traditional department and specialty stores, offering various services, dining options and family activities. It comprises of a vast network of shops and stores connected by several parking lots along the belt highway. While most stores offer products at full retail prices, shoppers can easily find what they need when pressed for time. Although some shops have closed down, JC Penney's and Dillards remain open alongside a few others.
Lots of stores closed. But JC Penney's and Dillards were both opened and a few more places. The pretzel place was open as well.

It’s nice to have an indoor mall in town, it just needs more variety to make it a “one stop” place and bring in more patrons. It could use a “sit-down”/full-service restaurant, movie theatre, grocery store, bank, and etc. If one could go there to get a little of everything, they wouldn’t have to drive all over town, and it could make for a unique/different shopping experience that isn’t offered anywhere else in town. Most of what you need, in one indoor facility. That would be especially important for the colder/bad weather months of the year.
The remodel was nice, and FUN RUN was a good thing to have come in. I believe this can have a distinct and important role in our city. If they could somehow draw in more variety and essential businesses, I think it could serve the community better.

This mall is famous for its back to school commercial back in 2014. Unfortunately now, there is not much to offer here. This mall only has 7 businesses left in it. This mall is a nice one and was remodeled only 10 years ago. I am shocked how fast this place declined.
Slacking Packing — Google review
Been shopping here for years, a huge network of shops and stores connected by a series of parking lots along the belt highway makes up this mall and surrounding businesses. You'll pay full retail in most stores, but if you need an item, are pressed for time, and know where to go, it's a pretty sure bet it will be in stock. Mostly a positive experience.
Susanna Allen — Google review
Highlight for me is the Chinese Acupressure massage. I'm able to get an appointment when I want and walk away feeling so much better. It's a hidden gem in the grand scheme of the mall.
I wish they still had more store options in the mall. It seems like a huge opportunity to open up small local businesses and have them connect with the downtown stores in the spring months. The mall was such an important place for me growing up, it would be really valuable to the community if people used the space for building a trusted reputation in these cold months.
More skylights would be huge for adding light. Maybe even a giant greenhouse, we could grow food and sell it right there. So much opportunity and I see so little progress from the developers.
John Lawrence Keck — Google review
This mall has very few surviving tenants. I am surprised it can stay afloat. Someone should really do something with this mall. The exterior is probably one of the best of any mall in the world, it makes you excited to come in, and the website makes it exciting. You have lots of potential with this decently sized mall, maybe tear it down, and make a minor league baseball stadium, that would bring a lot of traction from local baseball fans.

The Dillard's clearance store here has some good deals for hard core shoppers. It is closed on Mondays. The mall itself is pretty much empty with maybe 2 dozen stores total. It used to have over 70 stores with a waiting list to get in.Some cool local places like Ka Klay and Lino's Pizza. There is also a fun bouncy house kinda place that would appeal to kids. It is well maintained and would make a nice place to walk at for health or recreation when walking outside isn't suitable.

Don’t bother coming to this mall there’s maybe 5 stores left (A Native American Apparel Store, Maurice’s, Journey Shoes, and Claire’s). There’s one restaurant left in the food court. Website makes it look amazing.
So sad to see.

This place is just a shell of what it once was. It makes me sad. And who to blame? The owners who...well I can't speak on that. It changed hands just before the collapse I thought...maybe I'm thinking something totally different. I mean father time surely is what caved it in, just looking at it logically. Idk. It uses to be very nice. I remember. Late.90s, early 09s. Even. Early 10s.
But the state of it now. It's still pretty clean, or was the last time I was actually IN the mall past JC Penny's. It seemed pretty clean just dead space and empty booths. Kind of sad. But by golly Mall Walking made it!! So it WAS always about the walk....🙄

It's really sad how fast this place is going downhill. I remember when I was a teenager in the 90s, and this place was booming even had its own theater. I remember watching Gremlins 2 there. I hope it will get life again soon but not looking to promising.
Gary Folsom — Google review
What a fun place this used to be, in 2015 maybe. Since them relatively all of the stores have been closed, including but not limited to Dillard's, Party City, Auntie Anne's pretzels, Maurice, the Arcade, the list goes on. Now you have unheard of overpriced stores with little stuff worth buying.
I don't enjoy saying this, but the mall is currently poor, and I expect it to close in under 2 years and turn into something like the Kmart in St. Joe.
It's not even completely management's fault the economy is just that much harder to navigate now.

Attended the afternoon boxing class at the FREUDENTHAL CENTER for PARKINSON’S DISEASE with my son. The parking lot was not a problem. We had our choice of parking spots. We had easy access to the mall entrance and we didn’t have to wait in line for anything. If you have Parkinson’s disease or know someone who does, this is one great way to get out and enjoy yourself. They have something for everyone, Mon through Sat.

Pretty well empty Mall grew up in the 60's it was a thriving Mall then is was my first visit in several decades an shouldn't have been shocked by the decline since the Mall's our a item disappearing the stores in there not opening until 11 shame it's just a place for the walker's now and great for that

St. Jo Frontier Casino offers a variety of gambling options including slot machines, table games, and a buffet restaurant. Entertainment is available on weekends. The casino has themed nights with free ice cream and chances to win prizes. It is generally clean with good food and complimentary soda. However, alcoholic beverages come at an additional cost. Some patrons may occupy machines without playing them which can be a downside for others looking to gamble.
Yesterday was my husband's birthday. About a week ago I asked what would he like to do on his day and he chose to eat at the Grill Side Cafe then play the slots. Well as I placed my money into the machine I hit a bonus and the spin amounts was for 80 spins which halfway through I was up by thirty dollars then the bonus reels hit again....AMAZING another 20 spins. I continued on with the remaining spins by the end I received in total $62!!!
Hooray Hooray!!!
We had an awesome evening ⁰Thanks to The St. Joe Frontier Casino for a rememberable evening.

Well who doesn't love gambling? As you walk through the door you always think so give me a reason to call in, just give me a reason to call into work. Last night Thursday night was 50s night I guess that's what they call it. Free ice cream usually you get to watch the ball go down to the game thing and you're going to get $5 slots or you going to get $50 or so many points. It's a pretty clean place, good food I will say that. You can get soda free but if you want beer or something hard you going to pay. The only real downside is that the people who like to sit down in front of machine and not play it seems like there's a lot of them there. But is it a good time ? hell yes. So from big Kev thumbs up 4 stars.

I don't gamble but I went here with a friend who wanted me to go with her. So I sat next to her at a slot machine for about 10 minutes. I watched her lose $20..POOF! Then moved to another machine..POOF! Minus another $20. I thought maybe my mojo was bad for her so I left her alone and wandered around. It was a Saturday night around midnight and it wasn't very crowded. I went out to the entryway where they have some very nice, comfortable seating for people to sit & cry after losing, I guess. My friend came out to find me after losing another $30...and we went home. Total loss for her...$70 in about 45 minutes tops. The casino was clean and the people were nice. The "crying chairs" were pretty awesome...the restaurant was closed but it looked good and the menu I saw seemed to have all the good stuff. Parking is plentiful. If you like gambling on (actually near) the river...this is a decent place. If you go during the day there is a nature center you'll see before you get to the casino, it is very nice if you like that sort of thing.

The new member free play amount was definitely not worth the trip to play there. Lowest of all the casinos I've visited within 2 hours of my home. Haven't come back to experience more of your casino since it's an hour and a half away and not worth the travel from what I've experienced thus far. Clean yet small facility. Nice staff. You win some and lose a lot. I play multiple machines, and I feel like the payouts of the slots could be better. I know you can't win all the time, but they could make it a better payout when you do win. 2.75 bet and .60 return is about average here on payout

Very tight slots. 2 days $800 spent only 2 bonuses over that time. Largest win was $50. As a truck driver I visit a lot of different casinos and I do believe this is the tightest I've seen. Atmosphere was good. Staff friendly. It was small but clean. In the end they are in business to make money, so I won't knock them too hard.

I was really disappointed. Very few video poker machines and the video poker machines were all 15+ years old. Overabundance of slot machines. It looked like all the new expansion/ change out of machines was to install new penny slots. I would avoid this casino if you are a video poker player.

Lots of fun! Walked in with a hundred bucks and went out with three hundred. Certainly not guaranteed, but I'll take the luck and probably come back to lose some of it. The payouts at this casino are very scarce and they don't have poker and they very rarely have their craps games. But if you're in town you want to throw some money in a slot machine for fun you could go there. Just don't expect to win. Go in with the attitude that you're going to lose your money and then if you win it's a bonus

Navigating the intricacies of preparing for the inevitable can be a daunting experience, but the professionalism and compassion shown at Heaton Bowman Funeral Home made the journey so much smoother.
Jesse England, my pre-need specialist, was nothing short of exceptional. His genuine care, extensive knowledge, and meticulous attention to detail transformed what I anticipated to be a burdensome task into a meaningful and reflective process. Jesse took the time to explain every option and answer all my questions, ensuring that my wishes and preferences were both understood and respected. It’s evident that he doesn’t just view this as a job, but as a profound commitment to the community he serves.
Mike Walters was second to none in his ability to help us navigate the military benefits paperwork and set up the military honors that were due my father.
The experience they have handling all the paperwork that accompanies the end of life made the process go smooth.
To anyone seeking preneed services or a funeral home that genuinely cares, I wholeheartedly recommend Heaton Bowman. Their unwavering dedication to the community is commendable and their commitment to making a challenging process as seamless as possible is truly unparalleled.

Highly recommend. Mike was so helpful, caring and understanding during our process of putting our Daddy to rest. Rachel was also helpful and caring during this difficult time.

Robidoux Row Museum and St Joseph Historical Society
The Robidoux Row Museum, founded by Joseph Robidoux in the 1840s and operated by the St Joseph Historical Society, is a landmark building that offers visitors a chance to learn about the history of Saint Joseph. The museum contains valuable information about Robidoux, his family and their impact on the city. Although not particularly interactive or child-friendly, it is an excellent place to go for those interested in learning more about local history.
Excellent explaination of development of St Joseph. ROBIDOUX was quite the developer, explorer, and town father. His impact continues. Staff friendly and helpful.

As a distant relative of Joseph Robidoux, I am so thankful I had the opportunity to visit these grounds. Another relative, Louise Robidoux founder Riverside, California 🇺🇸

I enjoy coming here but I wouldn’t necessarily consider the indoor portion child friendly. Lots of great information about the man, his family, and the city, but it’s not very interactive. I enjoy going by myself to learn and I always learn something new.

Its a small museum but its still comprehensive in covering an important figure of Saint Joseph, in fact one of its founders
There is also a nice garden (being improved) and space which can be rented out for events and activities (especially popular for weddings).
