Gold Bug Park & Mine is a historical museum that offers an audio tour of an 1880s gold mine, along with a blacksmith shop and gem mining. The park also features short trails for hiking, an old stamp mill, and a smaller mine that visitors can explore through a self-guided audio tour available for $10 per person. While the fee seems slightly high, the main attraction of the park is undoubtedly the mine itself.
The tour of the mine itself was okay. We had followed a family in to the mine and it was hard to listen to our audio guide with another audio guide playing nearby. It would have been nice to have a transcript of the audio to read instead. Maybe there was an option we missed.
What we really enjoyed was the second part visiting the stamping mill and blacksmith area. Mike at the stamping mill was very helpful and informative sharing lots of interesting facts and demonstrating how the stamping mill worked.
The park and trails looked well-kept but we did not have time to stay and enjoy those areas. It's conveniently located near downtown Placerville making it an easy stop.

A nice smaller historic park with a few short trails to hike, an old stamp mill, and a smaller mine you can explore for $10 for a self guided audio tour. The rest of the park is free except for the mine, which is really the main attraction. The mine is a cool feature to see, and is worth doing the audio tour, however I wish it wasn't $10 per person. A $5 fee for the self guided tour seems more reasonable, or even a $5 fee for anyone to tour the park seems fair. Worth a visit if in Placerville, and if you have children.

Awesome experience for kids. They can do some gem panning, visit the mine, hear stories of the blacksmith.

Loved it. Going through the caves and learning great history was pretty sweet. Don't forget to visit and see the blacksmith- absolutely impressive.

We enjoyed the mine tour thoroughly! Friendly people, awesome historical facts and demonstrations made this stop fantastic! Fun walking trails too!

It's a small mine, but has a phone narrator, and plenty of cramptness, poor light, low ceilings, and the like. It also has some beautiful mineral formations. It's unlikely to interest many children, unless they're very curious. I enjoyed the veteran's discount. It's also has a stamping mill and blacksmith right across the way.
Maksim Smelchak — Google review
Really nice place
It's open for self guided tours - you get a helmet and prerecorded audio on a phone, and off you go to the mine!
It's until the very end of the tunnel - which is rare for all the gold mines I've had a chance to tour so far
A few of the lights didn't work - so you may need to use the flashlight in your phone to look at the spots you are supposed to be looking at (otherwise it's very well lit)
They also have a full size stamper mill 5 minutes walk away - in the price of the mine ticket - it's a bit uphill, but it's good enough for a short walk (there is trail which leads directly to the parking in front of the stamper mill)
Behind the mill there's blacksmith workshop - it's really nice. The blacksmith can teach you real skills if you're interested!

Amazing experience. My favorite part was going into the mine tunnel. It was chilled, dark, and dripping with water. IT WAS GREAT.
Tour guides (Stamp Mill/Black Smith Shop) were excellent too! I definitely recommend visiting this location. The fee is $12 per adult, $10 for veterans.

Not a huge park, but bring a lunch and you can spend about 2 - 3 hours here. The actual mine your walk down was an awesome experience (bring a sweatshirt, even on the hottest day), I would say for all ages 5+ highly recommend. Light hiking in the area and a small gift shop and museum. Blacksmith open on select days.

Quiet place for hikes. My kids enjoyed the self-guided mine tour, stamping mill, blacksmith and panning for rocks and gold. Nice small gift shop, nice people. Bring lunch, there is a nice covered area with picnic tables.

We had a great time with my grandson. The mine is cool and a little wet in spots. The self guided tour was neat to listen to. Kinda small but what do you expect? We bought souvenirs, had a picnic and hiked. What a day.
Fantastic atmosphere, fantastic people. I had the chance to visit Boeger on one of their concert nights and it was a great experience. Everyone was outside feeling the music, bringing their picnic food and enjoying the evening. I'm not super knowledgeable on wine but the staff pointed me in a good direction on a few selections and it made me feel very comfortable. I would definitely recommend checking them out if you're in the area.

Really great winery. Went to Boeger after a hike with family right before Thanksgiving . The setting is gorgeous. We really enjoyed the wine. Our recommendation is that you pair a bottle or a few glasses with a charcuterie tray and make a picnic of it.

Love this winery. It was certainly a perfect day to visit. Sitting out by the pond and enjoying the wine was a perfect ending to a great day with my bride. We were up there doing video home tours for one of my clients.

I recently visited Boeger Winery as part of my holiday to Northern California, and it was the perfect place to relax and unwind. I was feeling quite stressed out from my travels, but the peaceful atmosphere and beautiful surroundings at the winery really helped to calm my nerves.
Even though I didn't sample any of the wines, I did enjoy a delicious hot chocolate that I brought from home. The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and they gave us a fantastic tour of the winemaking facilities. The tasting room was cozy and inviting, and I appreciated the opportunity to relax and enjoy my hot chocolate in such a lovely setting.
The winery also has a picturesque garden and patio area where you can sit and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

What a beautiful & romantic winery; perfect place to wine & dine. The property is vast and beautiful, a most-go place in autumn 🍃🍂🍁. They have a good selection of wine with reasonable prices.

Boeger is a lovely, romantic little winery. My family has been members of the wine club for several years and we always enjoy going to pick up wines and spend some time sitting in the lush, green garden. Boeger has a nice variety do with each and knowledgeable staff. You can bring your own snacks and enjoy your wine out by the pond at one of the clean, shaded picnic tables. Support this local small business and enjoy a nice day out!

We've been members of Boeger's wine club for a number of years, and they never fail to impress! Love having access to their amazing selection of rarer Spanish and Italian varietals, in particular. Winemaker Justin Boeger is a true talent - lucky to have him and his staff doing their thing right here in the Capitol region!

I LOVE Boeger Winery and visited over the weekend to celebrate my birthday picnic style with a few good friends and a few amazing bottles of wine. I love their affordable and great quality selection and relaxed, gorgeous environment. The property and views are unmatched for wineries in this area with a full vineyard, garden, pond, orchard and historic buildings. It’s awesome that they offer their picnic table area where you can purchase packaged snacks, and wine by the bottle or glass. They provide wine glasses and little plates and forks and the staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. Lots of shade for hot days and dog and kid friendly! It’s such a lovely experience every time I visit and highly recommend Boeger to everyone in the greater Sacramento area, or a nice enjoyable stop for anyone traveling up to South Lake Tahoe or Apple Hill from the Bay Area!

Great for a Sunday fun day! The property is absolutely beautiful! They often I have live music and sometimes there is a blacksmith that you can watch does metalworking. The wine is sophisticated yet great for anyone who has never gone winetasting before. Lots of grass to walk around home and great for pictures. This is one of the oldest winery in El Dorado county

Support local businesses! What a beautiful place to enjoy great wine outside in the garden under the beautiful trees. Great selection of wine. Love the outside set up for tasting at separate locations under the trees. All wineries should follow this example. Go and enjoy the wine.

Beautiful grounds, very relaxing! Super

Current fav is the Estate Barbera - stuff of my dreams. Boeger is such an enjoyable experience from start to finish, highly recommend!
Lava Cap Winery is a family-owned business that produces red and white grape varietals grown in volcanic soil. The winery has a beautiful patio with stunning views where visitors can enjoy reasonably priced wine, although some may find the Chardonnay and Rose too sweet for their taste. Tastings are $15 per person but waived with bottle purchases. Customers praise the friendly staff who are accommodating and helpful, making it an excellent location for family and friends gatherings.
Visited on 11/21/2023 around 3:00 PM and there until close.
Upon arrival immediately had a friendly greeting with the hostess and a welcome glass of white wine.
We were lucky and had a seat available on the front with a perfect view.
John was our sommelier and he was an absolute pleasure. We had such great conversation with him. My husband and I did wine tastings with some cheese and crackers.
Each of the wines were delicious- not one that we did not like. It’s not often you come across a tasting where you love each wine.
It was also great the tasting fee would be waived if you decide to buy bottles, which is a wonderful deal. We did get two bottles of wine (their Syrah and Merlot- both so good!).
We did not know we would be catching one of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen. Born and raised in Roseville, Placerville has always been a quick getaway to enjoy the peace, quiet and views. I’ve seen plenty of beautiful sunsets but something about this location, the grapevines and mountains surrounding the cotton candy skies was breathtaking.
The hospitality of this winery is what initially impressed us (after coming from Starfield- see my review there as well).
Overall, the hospitality, kind nature of all employees, wine, snacks and view, 10/10 would recommend. You will not be displeased; just disappointed you can’t stay there all day and night to soak up the wine and beauty.
Thank y’all for such a great time!

This winery is very nice. The seating is outdoors so go when weather is nice. They have a deck that overlooks the vineyard and down into the valley. The wines are excellent. The day we went they had 6 wines (white and red) for tasting. John was our server and he was great. If you buy a bottle then they waive a single tasting fee. They also have some cheeses, crackers, and olives for sale to eat at your table.

The best winery in the area. Been there twice - high quality wine worth every penny, great service, and stunning views. Loved their event today rolling out their older wines. What a positive and creative way to engage the community and show appreciation to patrons. Thanks Lava Cap, I will be back!

Second time here had a pretty great experience. Their wines are good, not perfect but hovering somewhere between 88-92. A couple of them - for example, the Mourvedre, are really good and I'd give them a higher score. I want to rate the winery on the experience and not just the wine though. Having good wine in California isn't enough to make you a 5 star winery. So, while this may very well be one of the best producers in the Placerville area, let's talk about the winery itself. Tastings are generous, and staff is friendly. The atmosphere is top tier. Me and my partner felt comfortable enough on our second visit to bring charcuterie makings, a blanket and a picnic basket.
Their 6 complimentary tastings wine club benefit is premium and the 15$ tasting (waived if you buy a reasonably priced bottle) is also a refreshing contrast to the 40-70$ they're charging in Napa.
A few wines are what I like to fall recipe wines but there's quite a few hidden gems on their roster so I encourage you to taste as many as they let you and buy a sampling of their other bottles if you can afford it.
I hold a very high standard for 5 stars for winery and restaurants so the 4 I'm giving Lava Cap is very good.
Their snacks are priced very fairly and I didn't feel bad about buying a few to compliment the snacks we already brought.
They're dog friendly and very accommodating.
Bernie ushered us through the tasting and that was great. Unlike some of the more top tier experiences they don't hold your hand through the tasting process and give you backgrounds on each of the wines. For some this is a positive and others enjoy the more hands off tasting experiences. All in all - a very pleasant experience.
I'd love to see a "blind taste" flight option as I find those extremely fun but it's a rarity in today's scene.

Had a wonderful afternoon visit at Lava Cap today. Sarah was a great host. Even if the wine wasn't good, the view and atmosphere is amazing. But the wines are also good! The Old Vine Zin was our combined favorite. But my particular favorite was the Port. Even had a nice visit from the cat. As my wife and I are both geologists, this was our favorite place to visit for many reasons. Highly recommended!

Wonderful family and Winery. The wine itself is bright and refreshing due to the unique soil found on the mountain. If you’re looking for small bites they have a quaint selection of meats/cheeses/crackers. You can also bring your own picnic. Many fruit vendors can be found along the road to the winery to take with you as well!

this was my first winery experience and I must say I liked it! Wine was excellent and I left with a bottle of their Zen. #loveit The kitty that was there was also a beauty to look at! I will definitely be back for more! Thank you to the nice lady behind the counter for the warm welcome!
Our first time at Apple Hill and Boa was our favorite! The BBQ Polish dogs and hard apple ciders were delicious! They had a cute pumpkin patch that our toddler loved! We’ll definitely come back! We went on a Tuesday so the lines weren’t as long and we’d recommend coming during the week. One of the people who worked there said the lines can get so long that security has to close the line so get there before 4! They try to be done with the bbq around 5 or 5:30.

Love the vase variety of fruits! Delicious apple donuts - chunks of apples with the right amount of sweetness, cinnamon, brown sugar. Apple fritter was good but the peach dumpling was the highlight! Yellow peaches with brown sugar, cinnamon filling wrapped with a flaky pastry! Must have if it's in season!

They are open 363 days a year, closed on Christmas and Thanksgiving. We have been frequenting this spot for over 25 years.
During the Fall, they have kiddy tractor pulled rides and a pumpkin patch. In December, the Christmas tree farm opens for the month. They host special events throughout the year. Year round… they have a bakery selling fresh doughnuts, pies, and cobblers. They have a hard cider and beer tasting bar counter. They sell house made jams, jellies; frozen pies and pastries; fresh local fruits (lots of different kinds of apples) and vegetables. They even sell hot bbq. There is a specific ordering protocol for that though. The orders are taken and paid for at the bakery counter and you will be provided a receipt. You then take the receipt to give to the staff at the bbq grill. Most likely there is a line there, ask folks if they are waiting in line to give their order receipt to the bbq staff or waiting to pick up their food. The staff will take your receipt and call out orders as they are done. The tri tip is fantastic.

Boa Vista is great. I’ve been here a couple times and the market has good quality items from produce, meat, and speciality items. The food offerings here are really good and ample parking. It would be nice to have a few more options with the little shops but overall great experience for the family!

Nice stop for an easy farm stand experience year round, with a covered, open air feel. Quick place to grab some apple donuts or specialty donuts, drinks, local cider, fruits and veggies, sauces and preserves, with a small grocery and specialty snack section. There are outdoor eating tables available, and sometimes a lunch stand or food truck.

A very nice stop. One of the better farm stands, I think. There is some food and drink to be had but we were more interested in trying an apple beer and berry wine. We were unable to get the attention of anyone to staff the bar but, in fairness, we gave up after about 10 minutes, so we didn't try super hard. This is the reason for only 4 stars. Otherwise good.

It's not necessarily a quaint and cute farm, but more like, "get all you want and need" farm. We got pastries at their pastry store inside. They had a huge selection of pumpkins, fruit, honey and miscellaneous items. The only thing they really lacked on was apple and pumpkin bread. Couldn't find any.
Overall, great quick visit for everything we wanted.
Get here early to avoid the crowds.
They had a sample booth, a handful of craft and food booths additionally.

Great place for your family to visit anytime of the year. They have fresh produce from close by farms, great apple cider, fruit wines, and beers. Pretty good BBQ that pairs nicely with their alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Try the glazed apple donuts - I was lucky to get a still warm one and it was "WOW!"
WARNING: They are crazy busy September, October, and November. We can't wait to visit in the off season!

If you're going for Mother's Day weekend, change plans. You will wait over 2 hours to get 1/2 of what they state on their Strawberry Festival ads. No Strawberry Pie. No Strawberry Cobbler. The Strawberry Sangria is almost a lie: its made from Blackberry Hard Cider and some imitation pink colored Strawberry syrup with a slice of strawberry in a 4-ounce plastic cup for $7.00 which is bad tasting. The Strawberry Fudge tastes bad, too. The worst part was biting into a Strawberry Dumpling and finding most of the strawberries had turned totten. Ugh! There is nothing special up there-just Boa's way to drum up business as cheaply as possible. I thought there would be something for the kids: face painting, Strawbeery Character, or SOMETHING. No! No more than a few Dollar tree strawberry signs. Too hot, not fun, and bad food. Not my way to spend this first great weekend of beautiful weather with family. Bad job, Boa. You failed!

It's a gigantic carnival-like roadside stand for fruit, meat produce, etc. There's often a grill for meat, a bakery, freezers of pies, ice cream, multiple artisan booths, and anything else that can be profitably sold. In other words, it's a nice place to visit. On entertainment, there was little, but everything else worked. Recommended.

Not a bad pit stop in the Apple Hill area. Was a day too early to visit the lavender fields in the region for "lavender days". Yet they had amazing lavender donuts that are absolutely worth the trip alone. Yummy lavender & blueberry pie. My first time specific at this orchard for any occasion. Been in the area before, but this orchard itself has soOoOoo much to offer year round- can't quite yet give them five stars until I experience more. I'm sure plenty of folks do think of them as five star. Great Farmer's Market vibes with excellent food and produce offered year round. Happy I poked my head in.. knowledgeable staff eventually told me about what to explore in the area for my liking. Great gift shop ideas, plenty of parking, handicap access & more made this a destination I plan on visiting again, my next days off from work. Missed their cherry days fest by one week. Nonetheless, definitely an orchard to consider when looking for harvest & seasonal exploration! Nice start to my summer.
The Apple Hill region is known for its apple farms, restaurants and breweries that offer cider tasting to visitors. While May is considered the off-season, tourists can still explore the area and visit Boa Vista Orchards which has a variety of fruits and vegetables available year-round. The orchard is conveniently located near the highway, accessible via the Schnell exit due to ongoing construction on Hwy 50. Tourists can take a scenic drive looping around Larsen Rd while enjoying the beautiful surroundings.
This time of year (May) is off season for most of Apple Hill. But the drive was nice and pretty to see the area. Boa Vista Orchards is open year round for a nice selection of fruit and vegetables and is just off the highway. Take the Schnell (sp?) exit because of construction on Hwy 50 or you have to go further up and come back down. That's how we did a tour looping around on Larsen Rd. We stopped and bought 2 blackberry pies at Boa Vista which are delicious! However, like everything else, it came with sticker shock. The frozen pies were on sale, so that's what we opted for. Very easy to bake. No traffic and a very nice drive just to get out for a bit.

There are lots of things to see, and foods to try. It's best known for every kind of apple dish, known to mankind. If in season, the traffic and parking are insane. However, out of season, it's a really pleasant day trip. However, once you've seen it the first time, there's not too much more to see. Go for the fresh apple or cherry pie! Have fun!

Fountain & Tallman Museum is a historical site located within an 1852 building that was previously used for the production of soda. The museum displays various items such as vintage furniture, photographs and other memorabilia from the period. Its collection provides a glimpse into the past, giving visitors an opportunity to learn about history in a unique way. Great collection of historical artifacts from el dorado county. We really enjoyed the private tour given by Heather. Reservations need now but they hope to open to all soon.

Really neat exhibits and the docent basically gave me a personal tour. Really cool. I learned some things I had never heard before and also connected the dots from related areas (like Virginia City!). I would go back (and bring friends who also enjoy history). Suggested donation $2/person.

I just wanted to add that the giant slice from the Big Oak Tree is from the property where my Great-great grandmother’s brother lived. He was born in Pennsylvania.

Love this adventure. Highly recommend. Small enough to see everything in a short amount of time. Can't wait to go back and see it all again.

We enjoyed a wonderful stop at this little museum on the way home from Apple Hill. A friendly and accommodating docent gave a great tour. Each exhibit was very well put together, informative, and entertaining. I appreciated the spotlights on Native American, Black, and female people in El Dorado's early days, and I really enjoyed the grocery store display. No tickets required - see how much you enjoy the museum and make an appropriate donation on your way out. The outdoor areas felt cluttered and neglected - it would be nice if there was another property where excess items could be stored until they can be properly displayed and appreciated.

Our docent was very knowledgeable, explaining the exhibits. We learned much more about the history of the area.

This place was awesome. The curator was very knowledgeable and provided a lot of history behind the items they had in the museum. Highly recommend if you're curious about El Dorado county, or the Gold Rush.

Much more than I remember from a few years back. Very well done exhibits and many publications on local points of interest and history.
The food was delicious. Got the hog fries, with is pulled pork on top of fries and also got tri tip plate. Each was so good. Bought a few things in the shop and can't wait to use them at home

This is my favorite place in ( APPLE HILL) for apple fun but also the shredded pork tacos. Oh my! If I could give them 10 stars I would. They use Parmesan cheese on the taco shells which today they were fried flour tortillas. The ingredients are so fresh and so good.

Placerville, CA. Our favorite stop in Apple Hill for its bustling cheerful shop, great food, horses, maze, local vendors, unique candied apples (Butterbeer Candied Apples were a hit today), fudge, all kinds of apple baked goods, apple butter, toys and souvenirs. And freshly picked apples.
Today we got lunch there and when we smelled the chili dog as we passed someone eating one we had to have one. And it was great!!! We also smelled the apple pie baking and got a slice. I got the chicken salad with apples in it on top of spring mix, shredded carrots, walnuts, dried cranberries, cherry tomatoes, mandarin oranges, green olives and snap peas. Everything was extra delicious in the cool autumn air.
Speaking of fragrances that make your mouth water, when they take the pies out of the oven oh my Lord you can smell the butter, cinnamon, fresh apples and the loooove!
Just a great place that puts every visitor we saw in a good mood.

I bought an frozen apple pie in an upscale market to be part of Thanksgiving desserts. It came out horrible…it was the night before Thanksgiving. The pie looked so awful threw it away and rushed back to the store and bought another thinking I must have done something wrong! No the second pie turned out much like the first:( it was apple pie disaster. Something is not right with the recipe and I spent $32.00 on them!!:(

Daughter wanted to visit apple Hill for her birthday. She really wanted to go run the maze here at Abel's and get some apple donuts. Definitely with the trip.
Eric W — Google review
Abel's is a bright spot in terms of customer service and unique goodies offered. The people helping at the counters were helpful, friendly, smiling, and made it an enjoyable experience. The food is great (love the apple fritters, dumplings, and fudge). We also pick up an apple butter jar every year and enjoy every bite throughout the year. The grounds are a lot of fun with the maze, the photo-worthy cut-outs, and the pony ride. Keep up the great work and keep bringing the smiles!

I love this place. Treat yourself with my favorite Caramel pecan Apple pie, the best!! and more yummy sweets!! Friendly staff, very clean & well maintained place. Very nice and relaxing atmosphere. Patio dining, little unique boutiques around and cute animals. I highly recommend!

We visited Abel's Apple Acres yesterday.
There were lines for both the savory and dessert counters. We had meatless options which was great. I must agree with others in that the items were pricey. We liked how there were enclosed areas to dine since we brought our pups with us.
There are activities for kids and craft booths for the kids at heart.
We are glad we came before the weekend. Looking at the parking lot and lines to get items yesterday, we can just imagine how crazy it can get on the weekends.

We really enjoyed the atmosphere and lunch out back. A beautiful setting. But we did order an apple pie to go and sadly it was such a disappointment. Apples were undercooked and no sweetness. Too bad because the family was really looking forward to it to celebrate my birthday.

Wow! Our first experience at Apple Hill. Had looked ahead to make sure to stop at the best spots and do all the favorites. First stop was Abel's Apple Acres #38! Best apple donuts and apple butter! Grabbed a few dozens, some apple fritters, apple crisp with ice cream, apple strodle, caremel, and a few souvenirs (wood pumpkin ornament & red apple dude plush 🍎)!
We hung out and pet the horses too.
Great fun filled day with all the apples 🍎🍏💚

I have been going there for 20+ years, love this place. I know take my grown family and granddaughter. Love the food and all the candied apples; apple pie apple is my favorite. Love taking pictures with all the cut outs, running around the maze and horse rides. We always have a great time at Abel’s.

Visited Abel's yesterday afternoon. Staff were closing up early, so there wasn't anyone to greet or welcome us. We did get a slice of apple cherry pie to go, which was very tasty. The lady serving us was not friendly. Not sure if I'd go back.

A classic Apple Hill stop. I'm filling in as the face painter for 3 weekends here this year (first 3 weekends in Oct. 2023. Usually I'm at ElDorado Orchards next to the train) ... and Abel's also has a maze, rock hounding, horses to look at, lots of vendors and lots of pies, donuts and favorite apple products. One child mentioned a petting zoo but it was unclear if that was at Abels or a nearby farm. Apple Hill is an area of many farms that people drive around and stop at several in a day. I used to bring my kids here to Abel's when they were young. It was a favorite spot for them. Now they also have individual yurts to sit and eat in in case of bad weather. It rained a little last weekend so less people than expected so no lines.

David Girard Vineyards has a work of art for property!
My family and I went for Mother’s Day yesterday, and we had the most peaceful and pleasant experience. My parents had some wine which they said was wonderful, their charcuterie was tasty, and the friendliness is ever so heartwarming. I highly recommend David Girard Vineyards to anyone wanting a new experience, or somewhere to simply enjoy the beauty of nature and have a good conversation! 🌾💐🍷
God bless!

Attended a small wedding here. Great atmosphere. Plenty of parking. Large property that is well taken care of and looks like it's making more improvements. The wedding ceremony section was perfect. Looked fantastic.I The reception area was beautiful witha dj that played the music at a volume you can actually have conversations in. The staff were incredibly friendly and efficient. Had a couple of the wines and looked them both. The rose was my favorite. I would recommend this place to anyone.

The wines were tasty, the grounds were a secluded and attractive environment to taste and unwind, and our server, David, did a great job! Really enjoyed our relaxed tasting experience, and bought a couple of bottles, as well.

Very nice winery. The scenery is amazing. We did a tasting and it was a wonderful experience. David M was super friendly and knowledgeable. The wines were quite good and reasonably priced. Honestly, it was much better experience than the ones we had in Napa. Definitely will come back if in the area.

We have been here twice. The first time we were just driving by and Rod allowed us in at the gate for a tasting. Normally, it's reservations only, so make sure you call first. Tastings are very well managed. Rod brings you each tasting and explains the nuances of the varietal. Rod is super informed about wine, and David Girard varietals are different then our typical California ones. We joined the club yesterday and look forward to bringing friends next time.

My wife and her sisters and father and I visited with David Girard Vineyards for part of an afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The grounds are beautiful, the staff are very welcoming, and the wines are some of the better we've had in years. David (the owner) and winemaker (Jordan) spent quite a bit of time with us, chatting about the area and about their philosophies on living in the area and making wine. We've visited Napa, Sonoma, the Williamette Valley, and many wine regions in France, Italy, and Portugal. Many wonderful experiences there; DGV ranks right up there with the best of those wrt to wines (we bought several) and friendliness of the people. If you're in the Sacramento area, I highly recommend visiting them. Call first to confirm availability.

We attended a play performed in their event center by the local community college drama group and it was a memorable experience. The wine that was offered was enjoyable and the winery staff was wonderful. The owner, David Girard, introduced the production and was extremely gracious. Highly recommend you check out this winery.

The El Dorado County Fair & Event Center is a fantastic location for various events. Families can rent the beautiful Corker Building for celebrations, weddings, and receptions. It offers a nice spot with a field where kids can freely run and play. The venue has well-maintained grounds with plenty of rental options available, including a skate park for children to enjoy.
Great venue to hold an event! The staff is some of the best folks we've worked with.

Trying to fit a friend's motorhome in with us for Hangtown 100, but they won't let us! Very discouraging, I guess they don't want any more money!
We live in Folsom and had no idea this place was here. Stopped by last night and had a great experience. Volunteers are knowledgeable and passionate about astronomy. Had a great view of the moon through multiple telescopes and got to see the "Whirlpool galaxy" live on the computer display. Also had a sky mapping lecture that was very informative and interesting.

This is an amazing place to kindle your brain and learn lots about the night sky. The folks here are amazing at explaining things making it easier for newer people to catch on. They are very patient in answering all questions. The best part is the visit to this observatory is free but they do accept donations. Keep looking up. 🙂

We loved it! The telescopes are wonderful and helped us see Venus, Mars, and the Moon as well as far far away galaxies such as M-51 (Whirlpool Galaxy). The docents were knowledgeable and very welcoming. I highly recommend the observatory (but not with preschool age kids)!

We didn't get to see the aurora borealis but the stars were beautiful the volunteers were super friendly and looking through the telescopes was really cool.

I love this spot anytime of the day but if you are a stargazer they have a really cool Sky viewing area and on certain Saturdays and Sundays they have telescopes that you are welcome to look at her free although we always put a donation in the Box. Super educational and very fun. I haven't done it but it would probably be a pretty neat first date spot if you planned it right

DO NOT MISS! How in the world is this not more widely known? Free, amazing docents, and a great venue. Built by the Rotary Club of Cameron Park (disclosure ... I'm a member) I went for my first time and had to pry my children out of there at 930 pm. Great telescopes and a sky theater for open air tours with a laser that is amazing.

I had no idea there was a working observatory nearby. Whata great find! There is an outside mini amphitheatre for use by the observatory for watching stars and planets. The backs of the amphitheatre's bench are built at a 45°angle, so you won't hurt your neck. Nice! I posted the hours.
Bob Kelly — Google review
This place is amazing. They have very knowledgeable volunteers, an amphitheater for sky tours, and two large telescopes one of which has a screen for easy viewing. It is also wheelchair accessible. Keep in mind it is quite dark though (for obvious reasons). The pathway up to the observatory is lit but somewhat dimly so just be careful walking up!

Visited the Jodar Vineyards & Winery recently and had a fantastic time. The Apple Hill Orchard provided a break from the busy craft fair and offered a more peaceful atmosphere. The staff members were extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly, making it feel like spending a day with close friends. The experience was charming, allowing us to explore some delicious wines that delighted our taste buds.

The wines were delicious but Will was an absolutely incredible host. I'd come back just to enjoy his company while tasting through their selections again.

The lone white (Chardonnay) was bursting with the flavor of nectarine and the lack of the traditional heavy oak aging let the fruit really stand out.
Their reds were rich smooth and each presented its varietal namesake perfectly.
The port's depth of flavor and traditional almost tawny finish will be a perfect compliment to the more robust varieties of cheese.
Their staff was attentive, entertaining, and gracious, and the physical environment was beautiful and welcoming. We will tell our friends about this Sierra Foothills jewell.

WAS looking forward to stopping at Jodar for Passport 2017 weekend. You would think they would choose a greeter that would be friendly and cheerful. Unfortunately he was the complete the opposite. Extremely rude!!! I have been here many times and have purchased many bottles before. We did not even stay to enjoy anything they had to offer after our nasty experience.
