What a hidden gem!!! My friend and I had the place all to ourselves with Steve, from the Historical Society. Steve was very informative and went out of his way to share the estate with us. Each room so nicely preserved. The chandeliers with gas and electric options were so cool. 90% of the furniture and items in the house are original to the house. A must see when visiting Independence!!

Our tour of the estate was wonderful. The house was beautiful and artifacts were beautifully displayed. Steve was our tour guide and he was very knowledgeable. Steve's passion was obvious and infectious. Best tour we have experienced, anywhere!

We had a great time on our tour & the tour guide that we had for our group (we were split into 2 groups) was fantastic! She never made us feel like we were misbehaving (because we were & we're all over the age of 40! Lol!) and she stayed on track, as well as repeated information because some of us were either checking something else out that caught our eye or we were just talking. Kudos to the tour guides & ours MOST ESPECIALLY & although I cannot remember her name, she knows who she is! The house was beautiful & it was so Extremely cool that we could actually sit on the furniture & carefully touch historic items, to learn about the paintings & the history behind them. My personal favorite was the unfinished 3rd floor...wow!! The architecture is just phenomenal! My other favorite room was the kitchen/walk-in chiller room. Such great history. Kinda ironic that my 2 favorite places were for the servants back in the day. This was 1 of 2 things my Aunt Marsha wanted to do on her 70th birthday & thank you to the staff for helping make her day even more special.

Bingham-Waggoner Estate complex goes back to 1850's. The home has historical architecture, artifacts and stories that seem to come alive we we took a tour with a wonderful volunteer guide. The estate is maintained by efforts from good samaritans, volunteers and community. We attended a wedding and the ambience with lush green grand old trees, some blooming with flowers, and pleasant scents of outdoors were a treat to the senses. The interior is a little staid, could do better with maintenance and humidity control, all depending on lining up sufficient resources. Thank you for preserving this important landmark.

We were traveling and stopped in Independence to spend the night. The last tour of the day had already started when we arrived but they graciously allowed us to join. Our tour guide, Ms. Dana Thomas, was delightful. The house itself is magnificent. Three stories of gorgeous wood, furnishings and art. Perhaps the most remarkable aspect being that 90% of the furnishings and items on display date from about 1900 during the time the original Waggoners owned the home. Not sure I would put the home ahead of the Truman Library and Museum as a place to visit but it is definitely a don't miss for anyone looking for history in Independence.

The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. The home is so beautiful! They have worked very hard on raising the money to put the original furniture into the house.
The Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum is a comprehensive memorial to the 33rd president of the United States. Permanent exhibits cover the life and presidency of Truman, from his early years in Missouri to his time as president. Highlights include Truman's office and private quarters, as well as artifacts from his time in office.
I have visited several Presidential Library's & Museum's over the years and I would have to say, this one was the best so far! The design is easy to follow. The displays are very modern and interesting. I definitely learned more about Harry S. Truman and truly enjoyed the visit. As an added bonus, the staff were extremely accommodating the day of my visit. I would recommend checking in advance to see if a reservation is needed BEFORE you visit. Overall, I spent about 2 hours exploring and I took my time.

Beautiful place. Squeaky clean. Staff was super friendly. The souvenir store was great. Be aware - masks required, no food/drink. Military free! But price is about $15 and donations are accepted. Pass is for all day, so you can leave for lunch (we went to subway across the street) and come back. Lots to see!

I finally came back to the Truman Library since the 80s. The entrance was changed to the side of the building. I visited the museum, of course, but someday I would like to visit the archives. I like the old films they showed. The museum had at least 3 to 4 areas to rest and watch film archives. Lots of interaction that enlightens you with knowledge. It's amazing how this man had big shoes to fill when Roosevelt died. But he became one of the best and most influential presidents in our nation's history. I recommend to visit when you are in the Kansas City area. Handicap friendly too.

Excellent museum. Great use of timeline to bring historical events to life. The fact that President Truman helped design, build, and then utilized this space for years showed in the layout and care of the exhibits. The only suggestion would be the incorporation of other historical artifacts rather than wall quotes.

I didn't know much about President Truman but almost everyone in town said this place was a must see. I learned a lot and enjoyed my time. We came about an hour and a half before closing so we didn't have time to see everything. I definitely recommend allowing a lot of time especially if you like to read all the displays and take pictures. The staff were very friendly.

Highly recommend. Spent an easy 3.5 hours there. Could have pstayed all day.
School-age children will be bored, regardless of efforts of the knowledgeable docents. While there, the kids on field trip only wanted to see the oval office mock-up. Which held their attention for a minute.
Learned a lot about President Truman's family, childhood, WWI military service, failed businesses, political career, presidency, and "retirement."
Exhibits include the museum, the archives/library, on-site office, vehicles, oval office mock-up, and Harry and Bess' resting place.

Another great museum in Kansas City! We had a fantastic time at the Truman library. Spent about 3 1/2 hours there, and could’ve spent more reading all the bits of information. I learned so much about President Truman, and I will definitely return so I can learn more.

This is my third presidential library, so while a little less elaborate than the Clinton Library in Little Rock, it was more robust and tried less to attempt to shape the legacy of Truman than the Hoover library. It did a good job illuminating Truman's life and showing the complexity of the decisions in Truman's life. A simple man who achieved greatness, he had to make some decisions that remain controversial to this day. My kids even seemed to enjoy it, and I would encourage others to illuminate the history of this great nation by bringing their children here as well since 12 and under are free. Oh, and props for displaying the new MN flag before it is technically the state flag.

Awesome Museum! This was my 7th NARA Presidential Library. First off the grounds are beautiful! The grass is striped and cut beautifully. Secondly the staff is super friendly! Third the museum is beautiful. It’s been recently remodeled. It’s clean. It’s informative! It’s amazing.

I came here a few years ago and it was okay, but not memorable. Since then they remodeled it and brought it into the 21st century. They did an amazing job! It is now video and multimedia driven with plenty of interactive opportunities. If you are a local and have been here before as I have, it’s worth going back. If you are passing through the area and looking for a great historical stop, this is a great choice. They really bring history alive. Regardless of your political persuasion, there are critical historical moments that still shape our world today. Allow for at least three to four hours.

We drove by today, will be back. Ive followed the remodeling and expansion and am anxious to see it.
It was great driving from the courthouse from som business (it's massively screwed up doesn't need to be, another story) but the good news is we went by the home on Delaware, then to the library. Last time I was there was before President Truman had passed.

Very clean and well kept. Does have a family bathroom so dads can change diapers! We took a stroller with us for when our 2 yo and 1 yo got tired of looking at everything and had no problem getting it around d everywhere. They have many historic movies clips and many interactive learning opportunities. These also helped because my kids loved building the United States puzzle while I got to read. I would say this is a more serious presidential library but very well done.

My brother and I visited Kansas and Missouri in November of 2023, largely motivated by the museums of Pres. Eisenhower and Truman. Visiting Truman's museum was a very satisfying experience.
To start, there's a statue of the man outside for an excellent photo opportunity. The museum exhibits begin with a video that introduces the audience to how Truman became President. From there, one is taken on a timeline - from Harry's early life, to how he met Bess, to his days in WWI, to owning his haberdashery, to the Senate, the Vice Presidency, and the Presidency...etc. There is a lot to see. There is a replica of the Oval Office and Truman's on-site office is preserved. Harry and Bess are buried here; Margaret is interred as well. This museum has interactive components; the visitor is given a series of questions and is allowed to answer them on screens that are located throughout the exhibition.
There is a gift shop where one can purchase postcards, bandanas, caps, and even a miniature model of Harry and Bess in their railroad coach from the whistle-stop tour.
My brother and I spent just about 3 hours at the museum, and we did not feel rushed at any point. Note that Truman's boyhood home is located close by but is not on site (as such, we could only see it from the outside as it was closed by the time we came close to it).

This was my first presidential library and I was surprised. I expected it to push some agendas and boost Truman up on a high pedestal but I was wrong. They had excellent layouts, artifacts and readings. No agendas besides the actual history and explained a lot between Truman and the people and events around him and his reaction to them. I would recommend visit for anyone in the area. This was a great museum and I walked away knowing more and thinking differently about some events that he was involved in.

One of the best presidential library I have ever visited. Very informative and interactive. The exhibits were organized and I say I learned a lot. The place is wonderful and very interesting. Make sure you alot two to three hours to walk around, watch and read facts. I was very impressed with the interior and would definitely recommend this library to friends and family. They have a gift shop and parking is free.

Amazing presidential museum. Very well done with videos, interactive exhibits and artifacts. Learn about history including WW1, WW2, Korean war, establishment of the State of Isreal, and the Atomic Bomb. Lots of artifacts from Truman's life. Highly recommend. We were there for 4 hours!
Ann Stepp — Google review
My family spent several hours making our way through all of the exhibits, and I was surprised at how much I didn't know about Truman and all of the critical moments in history that occurred during his time in office. Kids age 7-14 were in our group and although they were good sports and well-behaved I didn't get to spend as much time as I would have liked in each section. So I'll definitely be back when I can go alone next time!
Edit: Went back several months later on a weekday morning with no kids and had the whole museum to ourselves. Loved it!
The Vaile Mansion is a historic home built in 1881 that is now a museum. The grounds are beautiful and the inside of the mansion is filled with interesting historical relics. The mansion is reportedly haunted, and the tour is detailed and guided.
I went on the Christmas tour. This was my first time inside of Vaile Mansion and it is so breathtaking decorated for the holidays!
Peggy was our tour guide for the downstairs portion of the tour....she was wonderful and told us about the amazing history of how the mansion was built, the Vaile family, and the history of the downstairs rooms of the home.
Aggie Stackhouse was our tour guide for the upstairs portion of the home and she was amazing! She was so funny and knowledgeable when I asked questions about the home and the paranormal aspects of the home (that part really fascinates me) and she was able to give me information for the paranormal group that conducts the haunted tours.
The staff was so knowledgeable and friendly and they get huge props for decorating the mansion for Christmas. The decor is so detailed and intricate. I'm sure decorating the mansion is not an easy task.
I had an amazing time. I even purchased some great souvenirs in the gift shop.
I will definitely be visiting again!

A fantastic historic home gem hidden in Independence. One note: be sure to ask for Mary; she was a fantastic tour guide! The home itself is stunning. You feel as though you have stepped into the Gilded Age, and the restoration has been done with deep love for the home, the period, and the history. We saw photos of the incredible decorations they do for the December holiday season, and I definitely plan to go back and visit to see those. Really neat old mansion. We took the tour, they told us a lot of really interesting things about the people who owned it, the former business that was there, which was a sanitarium/nursing home. I showed off a lot of neat period piece furniture. They said Christmas time is really fun to visit as it is all decorated up. A must see if you live in the area. A hidden gem.

We love visiting old historic homes in every city, and this one for Vaile Mansion was a welcoming surprise. It's off the beaten path in Liberty Missouri outside KC. Please stop and support this society that is saving historic homes like the Vaile Mansion, it's strictly donations for a tour of the fabulous Victorian ERA Mansion.
The fascinating life and owner of this mansion will amaze you too.
Architecture is just gorgeous along with the furniture, belongings, fixtures, and history of this family. All the fireplaces, the Cooper bath tub and the European toilet were just fascinating, to say the least.
Tour guides are volunteers who give you a history of the family and house. There is a little gift shop we stopped at as well, as we live to support all historic houses to preserve their lives and tales.
Off the beaten path, but so worth it

I have always loved Vaille Mansion and the history it represents. This Location has a long and storied history that is well documented. There is constriction going on at the street in front of the property, but that shouldn't get in the way of getting in the parking lot.

Charlie was a great tour guide! I am glad we decided to do the tour. We learned so much about the types of wood, marble in the fire places, and the history of what the home was used for and who owned it. The Harry S Truman National Historic Site is a historic home in Independence, Missouri, that was the home of U.S. president Harry S. Truman from 1945 to 1952 and again from 1961 to 1965. The site features personal artifacts, furniture and photographs from Truman's life and career as well as tours available through only the first floor of the home.
The house was not open for a tour but the grounds were. The ranger was excellent in his presentation about the history of the house. He also provided allot of information about former president Truman's time spent there.

Very nice tour of the Truman home! The ranger giving the tour did a fine job - he was open to questions, too. The Noland house across the street displays pictures of the upstairs portion of the house not available on the tour. We especially enjoyed the video interview of the Trumans by their daughter, Margaret! This part focuses on his home/personal life. I would recommend going inside the Noland house first because some of the items mentioned in the video interview weren't mentioned on the tour of the house & I would like to have looked at them.
We weren't able to tour the library because it isn't open on Sunday - no one mentioned this until we found it closed...

Cool to see the farm home of Missouri's only United States president. Interesting sight that is well preserved. Apparently they do interior tours on Friday and Saturday. We didn't get to go inside. They refused to let me inside Truman's house, even though I got there at 4:20. The last round is at 4:30.
The employee of the visitor center Jeff Wade told me to come tomorrow. Although I told him I was leaving town today. And he was supposed to let me in today.
Especially since I had a ticket. Very poor service!!!

It's free, just go to the visitor center for a ticket. The route is short. There's not much to see from such a modest/ frugal person. Took about 20 minutes. We got to learn some interesting things. Event though the decor wasn't very flashy.

The site is a great place to visit to learn more about Truman and his life during and after his presidency. Tickets are first come, first serve, so get there early to get your time slot you want. Tours are on the ½ hour and are limited. You need to go to the visitor center first to get the tickets. No photography allowed while inside or on the grounds.

I highly recommend the Truman home tour for anyone with even a general interest in American history and culture. Although it is a short tour -and only shows a portion of the home interior - it is still a classic look at the home life of "the accidental president". If your visit sparks an interest in Harry and Bess Truman ... I strongly encourage you to read the short and interesting book " Harry Truman's excellent adventure" which describes their cross-country road trip (after the presidency!) ... during which they expected to be treated as average citizens. 😎.
National Frontier Trails Museum is a museum in Independence, Missouri, that tells the history of the three great western trails - the California, Oregon and Santa Fe Trails. The museum features exhibits on early fur trappers and traders, Lewis and Clark's explorations, and the reasons why people headed west to settle. It also has an artifacts exhibit, original covered wagons, diaries and letters from the time period, an award-winning film theater, a children's activity room, and much more.
Having grown up on the west coast I have always been fascinated with the westward expansion of America during the 1800s. This museum definitely tells that story. The museum exhibits are laid out perfectly and informative. Learned about the other trails (Santa Fe trail) and what it was like for the travelers through their journals/letters on that are on display. I was actually surprised to hear that over 90 percent of the travelers made it.
Highly recommend this museum to anyone who loves America history!

As an Oregon Trail enthusiast, I greatly enjoyed myself getting to read all the signs and admire the artifacts. I came by myself and took my time; it took me about 80 minutes to get through everything, which is quite reasonable for the six dollar entry. The exhibits are very family friendly, but they have more academic-oriented books for sale in the gift shop that provide deep dives on the grittier nature of pioneer life, such as the archaeology on the Donner Party camps that I am currently reading. The lady at the front desk was hopeful about the museum receiving a good modernizing overhaul in the next few years as funding becomes available, though I found it to still be quite informative as-is. If you’re into historic site road trips, don’t miss grabbing the free auto tour guides published by the National Park Service on your way out.

Excellent museum displaying history and explanations of some of America's most famous WESTERN TRAILS including dioramas, paintings, antique collections, etc. There are other historic buildings on the property including a log cabin and a train station. We visited the day it happened to reopen since Covid began (8-7-21) and the 2 employees were more than eager to answer questions. The museum is self-guided and only cost @$5/pp. They have a nice small gift shop and a separate room for theater, demos, shows, etc. There is another historic home up the street you can tour also.

Considering the volume of information available on the trails, this museum does an amazing job of making trail history accessible. This museum is the starting point for several historic trails. The exhibits cover the Oregon trail, California trail, Santa Fe trail, Lewis & Clark trail and Mormon pioneer trail.
The museum is laid out well but feels in need of an update. There are no multimedia areas like modern museums have.
I was disappointed that the museum was entirely focused on the trail pioneers, with very little reference to the Native Americans already occupying the land. There were many missed opportunities to add context with the native people interacting with the pioneers. Even Sacajawea was barely mentioned in the Lewis and Clark stories.
The gift shop has a neat collection of books and souvenirs. I was sad to see that all the Native-inspired goods were made in China. I would love to see this shop actually showcase indigenous culture rather than selling imitations.
Overall it's not a bad introduction to the trail histories but if you're already a history buff, there won't be much to learn.

This is a nice arena for a minor league team. The capacity is about 6,000. I have seen the Comets and Mavericks play here. I would be happy to see more games here.
You get the feel of a professional stadium and professional team without the big crowd and big distance to the competitors. Parking is free; it takes a while to get leave with access that winds its way through regular streets and lights. Concessions are what you would expect at a big stadium - not as elaborate as what you can find at Arrowhead.
The teams make a splash for their players in introductions and through the game. There is genuine pride from the teams and fans. Most of the crowd are committed regulars who are wearing team gear and have a variety of spontaneous chants through the game. It all adds to the authenticity of the event.
I am glad that we have professional teams in town that aren't of the huge scale as the Chiefs and Royals. It adds a different kind of fan experience to what is available, enriching our home town.

The venue didn't require masks and didn't check for vaccination cards.
There are side ramps and floor space for wheelchair access. The seats are close together and aisles are narrow. The suites above the lower seating areas around stage, are spacious and had super comfy chairs and great views of the stage.
They serve concessions like light food/snacks, alcohol and sodas etc. All containers will stay open so keeping stuff like that by the seats is pretty challenging, just fyi. Restrooms were clean and enough of them around the building.
Parking is ample, just around the venue. I paid 20 bucks to park there for the concert but I'm not too sure if that's the cost each event or just for this one.
Limp Bizkit played along with Dying Wish, Wargasm from the UK and Yung Gravy. Opening bands were cool in their own acts but ofcourse Limp Bizkit had the entire crowd on their feet jumping, dancing and having a good time! Lighting and sound was awesome and extremely memorable!

We were visiting from the UK to see some friends, stayed for 2 weeks and on one evening we came down to the Cable Dahmer Arena to watch The Mavericks play. Parking info is available on their website, though a little vague. Ticketmaster isn’t very good about letting you know this place’s parking policies though. I ended up paying $20 for parking and paid by card only when I go there, parking instructions were also a little vague. Cool arena, pretty lights, food and drink is available (didn’t end up trying any). Was able to get tickets last minute. Seats were decently comfortable, close but not too cramped. Even being back row you could still see decently well. Overall good experience. 5/5 ⭐️ for Jordan & Tammy Peterson though.

The Cable Dahmer Arena...
What more can I say?
The Cable Dahmer Arena has played Host to several Amazing Events. The F.A.C.
(Fighting Alliance Championship)
Is one of Many, that I've had the pleasure of Attending. The KC Mavericks has a very loyal following, and Super Cool Prizes, and entertaining environment. The Comets also have a very dedicated fan base, offering autographs and meetings after each game.
On Dec 8th,
I had the opportunity to work the
1975's show.
The Atmosphere was Electric.
The Crowd was Interactive, singing along and in Admiration of this Band.
The show had mystical lighting changes with a well thought out set, making for a very entertaining show.
The Venue itself is a little older, but that only adds to the Character, and the History of it.
I've seen every angle, from the Top of the House, to the interworkings of BackStage Shananagins....
And without any doubts what-so-ever,
I Fully Recommend and Endorse the
Cable Dahmer Arena. Four 💫's

Loved seeing the KC Shrine Circus here. The arena is large enough for many events yet small enough to see any event taking place. Clean restrooms and many spread out throughout the building. Had a very rude grouchy older lady selling the pretzels and popcorn, but you never know one's life and what may be happening, so I gave her no grief of a hard time. The place was clean and the car line going in was organized and simple. Plenty of room for parking!! Love attending events here as it's close to one of my 2 houses and we don't have to go to downtown KC and fight all, that comes with downtown. Thanks to the venue for providing a space for these events and for being awesome!!!

We went there to see Jordan Peterson. It is a nice arena and it is smaller. Everything was clean and open. They have nice parking lots and they take only cash, at the time we went it was $20. Everyone that was working was very nice and everything was lit up to where you can see. The food prices were cheaper than the T-Mobile center by a dollar each. :-) We will be back if there is something we want to see.

It's one of the best venues around! It's not too big and not too small! Great distance away from the stage area, plenty of sound throughout, and their lineup of sports activities and music concerts is fantastic! Love the soccer, hockey, and concerts! The spring events are very fan and family-friendly! The most impressive part is that the food pricing is cheaper than going to a movie theater! You appreciate this venue, without a doubt! Enjoy!

Amazing! The game was GREAT, the staff was all so so so friendly, the food was good, the drinks were delicious. The kids had dip and dots and yummy cotton candy. The pretzel and hot dogs were good, too.
We’re excited to come back for another game and some music!

Clean and orderly. Parking was close and walked right in. After concert was out on the freeway without much wait, maybe 15mins. Wow! Well run. Only criticism individual seating wasn’t numbered. lol. Unusual! Maybe bc I had floor seats. Will enjoy coming back.

Awesome place, as I've been to two Mavericks games now, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Next time we will get box seats just to have more room, and to walk around in the box. We had a 19 month old with us so the box would offer a little more freedom.

Went here for the Blues game this past weekend! The parking was great it was a fair walk to the building. There was some tailgating we saw which was cool. Checking in is always quick, scan our tickets at the door and then as soon as you walk in there’s the security check. Then there’s a narrow-ish hall that everyone walks down to find their section. Then boom you’re in! Some food and drink and candy at the concessions. What we love is there’s so many good restaurants nearby that are open late for after-game eats!
We were early in the season so we received a personal tour. I agree about Buffalo Bob. He should be designated as a National Cultural Resource. Thanks to him we did not miss visiting because depot museum was closing soon after our arrival. We visited May 2023.

Virgil Atchley and Gladys Quinn Atchley lived in this Depot during the twenties and thirties. Gladys played both organ and piano to delight the passengers waiting on the trains. She was a very accomplished musician and enjoyed ragtime and the popular American tunes of that day. Virgil was a brakeman, later an electrician for the railroads. Later Virgil became a city councilman in Independence, Mo. They were my paternal grandparents. My second cousin Lawrence Wiebusch was instrumental in saving this depot starting in the 1980s.

Great little railroad museum right next to the tracks. Lots of little gems to looks at from the old RR days. Place has been restored and has the upstairs living quaters to walk through as well. Super cute and some really cool stuff to look at if you're into railroad memorabilia.

The volunteer giving the free tour of the train Depot was very friendly and knowledgeable. Wished we had more time to finish the tour and the upstairs living quarters. The depot is beautifully restored and the artifacts on display truly tell how train life was in the past.
This is a must stop and see while you are visiting the National Frontier Trails museum next door.

Leila's Hair Museum is a museum that showcases wreaths and jewelry made from human hair, including some from celebrities. It is the only hair museum in the world and it is interesting to visit for first-time visitors.
A wonderful place to go to learn about Victorian hair art. It was fun and informative, our guide knew a lot about the topic. I enjoyed this museum a lot. Definitely worth the price!
underthenoise — Google review
Quite an interesting place, if rather small. I had no idea that people would weave hair in such intricate patterns and shapes. It costs $15 for adults and $7.50 for those 17 and under. It consists mainly of framed wreaths made out of mostly human hair, as a tribute to family members.

Here is just one example of the racist crappy things they have posted when you try to go to this museum. There is an actual picture of trump and a police lives matter sticker not pictured. Guess don't come here if you're not white.
(for future generations, as a reference point, I am typing this after Trump's Helsinki press conference and after his family separation BS and these are still up)

A very odd and eclectic place. Leila is full of knowledge and has an amazing interest. The beautiful hair wreaths were something worth seeing and she has hair from some familiar and famous faces. She offers classes a few times a year and is writing books, too! Admission is $15 for an adult, which was much more than I had anticipated but it truly was a one of a kind place.
Leah Bockhahn — Google review
Rosie gave a great tour of the “museum”. No politics, no religion (besides descriptions of religious art). The museum is worth seeing because it’ll stick in your mind forever. If you’re like most of us, you had no idea that hair was used as a genealogical database before DNA and detailed family trees. Besides the record-keeping aspect, the detailed tatting-like work that was performed using hair is incredible. The tour is just long enough because at some point you’ve seen it all, but the details are incredible to see. The Smithsonian will have this stuff at some point, but I recommend you see it here first.
Sandy Christmus — Google review
Such a unique place! The owner was full of information and personally lead our tour. It was a great experience and there are also classes where Leila will teach you how to make a hair wreath. One of a kind museum.

Great tour. Leila is the reason not just anybody can put hot wax on your body to remove hair. Museum is pretty cool. It's crazy what people could do with hair.
They also offer classes four times a year.
The Midwest Genealogy Center located in Independence offers free access to research databases and appointments with genealogists, making it an essential public resource for discovering your family's history. The staff is particularly helpful in assisting visitors to learn how to use Family search by asking questions about their tree and aiding in searching for the answers. It is a pleasant place to visit, where one can find valuable information and services. For instance, Lindsey, a friendly young lady with a beautiful smile, provides excellent assistance.

Absolutely beautiful library. Quiet, very clean. Historical collections are outstanding, and the displays are entertaining. Staff is knowledgeable and approachable. My special needs teenage son now comes here to study every day, (to be removed from the noise and chaos of having a toddler at home, so he can actually focus,) over several other MCPL and KCPL branches he's tried. Bonus points for being open later than any other branch we've found, every day of the week.

Great Genealogy Center when you get the right person working the room. This last visit was not very good, maybe the staff is still getting acclimated to returning to work. 1st I needed my sign-in ID # - lady at front desk wrote it wrong. 2nd it's been a while the woman working the room didn't/could give me a quick update on how to search information. Not a very productive day 🙃🤔 maybe next time.

This is a place where I can focus and concentrate without distraction. That's one big thing I'm looking for in a library. Many times, public libraries can be loud with children's programs, etc. This branch is quiet. I love being able to study and focus when I come here. It is also one of the most aesthetically beautiful libraries in the area.

The 1859 Jail Museum is a limestone cellblock that housed various notorious inmates, such as Frank James. The museum offers informative signs about the history of the jail and its inhabitants. It provides self-guided tours of the jail and also offers wagon rides to explore the town outside. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, providing visitors with an enjoyable experience while learning about the rich history of the area. Overall, it's an impressive museum worth checking out.
This was really cool! The cost was only $6 per adult! Definitely learned a ton about the old jail & the people who occupied it! The jail cells give you this " Green Mile " vibe! So neat to see where Frank James actually stayed, along with other popular inmates of that time period. They had nicely displayed signs so you could read about inmates that were there and get more of a history feel. Jackson County Parks & Rec offers a variety of outdoor activities for visitors. You can enjoy fishing and boating on two lakes, as well as exploring the campgrounds. There is also an enclosure where you can observe native animals up close. For those interested in sports, there are soccer fields available to play on. Additionally, model airplane enthusiasts will appreciate the designated areas for flying their aircrafts.
A really diverse area with tons of different ecosystems and areas! The native hoofed wildlife area was always fun as a kid, as were the surrounding ponds. The wetlands are one of my favorite areas, with tons of turtles and aquatic life even in the cold of winter. The lake itself is home to a slew of animals, with cricket frogs even making an appearance on rocky beaches. The dam is also a semi-arid area, with people often seeing warmth-loving collared lizards there in the warmer months! Can't wait to go back during spring!

This is a wonderful visitors center. The exhibits are well-crafted with key information from Missouri LDS Church History. I went by myself this time, but next time I plan to bring my children too (both under the age of 8)! The exhibit is interactive with videos to watch, a cabin to walk through, and a little children’s play area at the end. My favorite part is the Christus statue at the beginning of the tour. Would highly recommend to anyone driving through this part of Missouri! It takes about 30 minutes to go through the tour.
I’m not sure if it is a permanent installation or not, but there is also an exhibit of pictures taken by George Edward Anderson in 1907 of many significant locations from the prophet Joseph Smith’s life. This was really neat to see!
The missionary couple that oversees the center is friendly and welcoming, and the young sister missionary who took us through the tour was knowledgeable, cheerful and kind.

I'm visiting the area and was looking for a place to run. I'm so glad I stumbled onto this path. I only ran 5 yesterday but am heading back out this morning for a longer run. From what I saw, it's mostly small, shale (?) trail mixed with intervals of concrete. You're still in the city but you do not feel like it. I saw mostly cyclists. This would be a great path for cycling.

This was our favorite part of the site because we could actually go in and see it. The Noland home is situated right across from Truman's home and it is where his aunt and uncle lived when he was courting his wife. The home is not set up like it was when it was lived in, rather it has displays about Truman and about his time as president. It is very interesting to go through and read all the information. The door is open and anyone can gl in without tickets or anything. It's a really cool place to visit!

1. What is the service you received?
A. All I wanted was the bill stating what I owed!
2. What was positive?
A. The shared community of other people pained with going through a ridiculous experience.
3. What was negative?
A. You have to get there super early. Like 2 to 3 hours before they open, if you don't want to stand in a long line for hours knowing that if you move or go to the bathroom, you will lose your spot in line and have to start over.
B. Don't bother calling because they seem to either ignore the phone or have it locked in a soundproof room.
C. If you see someone enter and leave less than 20 minutes after arriving, they were sent away for not having the correct paperwork.
D. You MUST bring ALL the paperwork! Everything! Just to minimize your chances of having to come back. Seriously!
E. Be over-prepared for the price tag. I ended up having to fork out $4,000.
F. Don't bother trying to make it into work, you're gonna need the whole day for this. Most of the people I met in line had to come back for a second or third time.

If you plan to see the assessor they tell you to arrive between 8-10am to get your “spot” but I would recommend being out there at 6-7am in the morning maybe 5-530am if you don’t want to be there ALL day long. I went today at 9am, stood in line until 10am before I made it to the lady at the front of the line asking everyone what they were there for. I thought once getting to her I was in & ready to go. I had no idea at that point I would be given a # & had 52 in front of me. I didn’t sit down with the assessor until exactly 415pm. I missed an entire day of work. Towards the end of the day I was able to secure a seat inside to sit. No privacy for anyone coming in to handle their business. It can all be heard out in the open by the man or woman at the desk. I sat & heard many people complain that they are tax payers & can’t even get in to handle their business unless they come early & even then people were turned away after so many people checked in. It’s unbelievable how they are running it. Terrible actually.

Why did this place waste taxpayer money on software that they only turn on half an hour after they open, to get into a line that you could use the Qless app from the comfort of your home or from inside your warm vehicle instead of having to stand outside in the cold... Turn on your Qless 15 minutes before you open that way your receptionist won't become so rude as the day goes on...

The fact that people have to take off the entire day from work and stand in the cold for hours and hours, before the open, just to pay the taxes demanded by the county is animal-like treatment. Jackson county doesn't need another stupid stadium, we need more assessment offices and clerks for our 700,000 tax paying residents! This seems like a huge misappropriation of tax dollars!

I went down to the courthouse to the assessment department to get a few cars removed from my personal property tax and pay my bill. The officer on duty at the receptionist desk was very courteous and helpful! I must have got there at the perfect time cuz I was in and out and a flash. Even though they are updating their new computer system there were only two people in front of me and total time that I waited was 20 minutes! The people at the assessment department and the cashier were so kind and courteous I could hardly believe it! I would think they would be at wits end considering the increase in taxes this year! I was truly impressed with their professionalism and kindness!

Ugh. I got there at 7 am to add a vehicle, and I was 6th in line. By the time they opened at 8, there were 50 plus waiting. They are listed on the qless app, but you cant use it. It always says closed. The receptionist likes to interrupt and talk over you to ask exactly what I was trying to say when she interrupted. Once I got through the line it took about 45 minutes. If i had known about the vehicle inspections and complicated taxes, I would never have moved to Missouri.

Plan to wait all day to be served. My daughter and I both arrived at 9 a.m. and waited in line for nearly 2 hours, only to be told once we reached the front that we would be put in a queue. There were 52 people ahead of us, and we received a text telling us what our place in line was. We were told to head back to the courthouse when we had 8 people ahead of us. Well ... at 4:40 p.m. and 13 people ahead of us, we arrived back to the courthouse. However, we were told we'd been taken out of the queue and would have to come back another day and start all over. Absolutely terrible. If this is how things are done, online options need to be made available. We wasted an entire day off work and got none of our very important personal property business accomplished.

It's cool that it's still very well used by the government despite it's age. The lines can get long if you go during peak times (and staff less forgiving), so don't do that.

In Jackson County Missouri one has to pay personal property taxes. Some tasks have to be done in person. Tax waivers. Taking off or adding vehicles. Here is what I found out. Expect at least an hour to two hour wait to be seen. You have to go through a metal detector to enter. You must wear a mask. You give your name and phone number in order to receive text updates. They are very good at updating. The staff are overworked but they are proffesional. The building is small. Hallways are narrow. The building was recently restored to its original condition. A museum and library is on site but can only be seen by appointment. Parking is challenging. One way streets surround the building. At the time of this post the timed parking spots are not being enforced. Only one entrance in. Its on the South side of the building. It is wheel chair accessible. A lot of new business popping up around the courthouse. And last the Jackson County Sheriff working at this location is a proffesional and went above and beyond to help everyone that walked in from what I observed.

Very long wait! If you are coming to handle property taxes, they open at 8am but you should arrive by 7:15/7:30am to get in line. You have to wait in the line and get out in queue. I arrived at 8:25am and was in line outside for just over an hour and a half. I ended up being #39 once I made it inside. I then waited for 3 hours for it to be my turn. You can set up to have text notifications when your number is coming up so you can at least sit in your car and wait. Once it was my turn, it took about 20-25 minutes to do what I needed and get done. The bathrooms were also out of order and they had porta potties outside instead.

The text-to-check- in system is no longer operational. It’s still on their website but once you get here, it is first-come first-serve. For assessments or anything related to property taxes, you will need to come line up and get checked in early. My first attempt, I arrived at 10am and was informed that Assessments was booked for the day. Today, I arrived an hour before they opened the doors (doors open at 8am) and waited outside with 40 people in the line ahead of me. Come ready for the elements while you wait outside, bring a snack/water. The staff are professional and courteous but this waiting system and being unable to reserve an appointment is hugely problematic. 2-5 hour wait times are inequitable for folks with unforgiving bosses/strict work schedules, disabilities, or those without childcare.

Well DAMN this is ridiculous, this process is a horrible one to go into thinking you will be in and out in under 2 to 5 hours . The wait is unbelievable. The ladies in the office were nice like others have said and I only herd one person/ customer flip out while I have been here for over an hour and 45 minutes . If you get here at 7:45AM, before they open, plan on spending 4 hours waiting in line. There are online options for some tax issues, but we were told today there is a 3 week response time. Good luck!

I arrived at 6am and was 7th in line. As soon as the office opened at 8am I was first served. The staff was friendly (maybe because I was their first customer of the day?). I was out by 8:10am.
But I took count of how long the line was:
6:30: 15 people
6:45: 25 people
7:15: 40+ people
8:00: 100+ people
If you don’t mind waiting outside, this can be a 2 hour trip from 6-8am. Good luck.
Hippie jumps, variety of stairs, ledges all around good time 🛹👴🏻

It's a joy to visit authentic history. The Church of Christ does a fine job of maintaining the property, and the staff in the visitor's center is courteous and friendly.

They told my 3 year old and I off for using A parking space to draw on with washable chalk. There are hundreds of spots there that are rarely used. And the lot was empty. The red security trucks that are there have good people in them tho.

Wow, this place is huge. Would like to experience it on a Sunday during church service. Was there for graduation was a nice turnout.

Great big unicorn horn right in the middle of town that no one comes to see
The massive shopping mall Independence Center is located just outside of Kansas City, MO. It has a wide range of stores and services including clothing boutiques, electronics, food court and more. It's often considered one of the best malls in the metro area and remains open even during tough economic times.
It's a very large shopping mall on three floors. There are various stores and small but fun facilities, so you can enjoy it with your children

This mall is on the decline, during my visit Forever 21 is closing and everything was 90% off. The food court looks like a ghost with only 3 food options left.Dillards is the only anchor left. However it’s not a bad mall. I like how there’s an awesome arcade in the middle section.

Like any modern mall, they are emptying out. They did some cool things to make a good visit. There's some play areas for climbing and stuff. I'm sure it's a paid attraction. It's old but nice from what I could see. I'd go back someday if I'm close.

It was a great place to stop in and get some shopping done. They have a variety of store and restaurants. It was not overcrowded.
It seemed safe.

My experience was delightful! My son wanted to go to Build a Bear for his birthday and play the arcade games at the mall - done! There was a great variety of games.
The atmosphere was a bit sad with so many stores boarded up and vacant, I truly hope it can come back to life! Everyone we interacted with was pleasant, we would go back if we are ever in the area or close by.

I definitely enjoy coming to Independence Center to do some of my shopping. They have a decent array of stores to choose to shop from, and that's even with shutting down or having a few stores shut down i.e. Shoe Deopt. And a few others I can't remember at this time, but even with that I still enjoy going and shopping and then possibly getting a wonderful treat from the Korean food stand at food court because the lady who does that makes everything perfect.

We only had to run in for a quick run. But it was during the DREADED CHRISTMAS CRUNCH. And amazingly it wasn't bad. We were in and out in no time. The stores we went to were pleasantly and surprisingly still stocked. And this was two days before Christmas.
The Center was very crowded but not overly so that you had to walk slowly to go around people.
And quite shockingly the stores being this busy you weren't bumping into people and the lines didn't take long. The stores we entered were well enough prepared to keep their patrons happy.
I think for me the best and Happiest part of all was it appeared whether too tired to care or not everyone seemed to be of Good Cheer.

We had a lot of fun with our family walking around and visiting the different stores we were there for hours. Nice sales, plenty seating for me to rest my feet and nurse my newborn. The kids loved being on the different rides some of them was broken and ate my quarters $2 worth. The play area is nice too but not much for littler ones that wasn't roped off
The bubble teas was great especially the milk teas. The restrooms were nice and clean.

The staff in every store are always friendly and knowledgeable. The place is always clean. I do wish the parking lot lighting was brighter and the driving lanes around the mall were better marked.

Don’t come here if you wanted to have fun with your kids. Only about three of the arcade games work in the food court. The rock climbing and rope course is also closed and from what I was told, it has been closed for some time now. You are better off going across the street to the Main Event Center or somewhere else.
