Caldwell Zoo is a well-maintained park spread over 85 acres, featuring around 2,000 animals from North and South America as well as Africa. The natural habitats are recreated to provide a comfortable environment for the animals. The zoo offers up-close views of the animals, unlike some other zoos where finding them can be challenging. Visitors can enjoy interactive experiences like feeding birds and giraffes.
Beautiful zoo! Very well kept. We were able to get through the zoo (adults without kids) in 2 hours. I liked how to at this zoo the views of the animals were up close and the way the enclosures are designed gives good viewings of the animals (vs at some zoos it's really difficult to see/find the animals). There's a nice area to sit (and eat) that overlooks the giraffe and elephant area. Would definitely come by again when in the area.

We have visited many zoos across the US including San Diego and the National Zoo in DC and we LOVED the Caldwell zoo.
It’s the perfect size - all exhibits are very accessible in a single trip.
We enjoyed seeing the animals up close (feeding the giraffes is amazing!) and were able to spend enough time in each section to see the animals go about their routines.
The bird feeding area is lovely. Seeing all those colorful birds flit about is sure to bring a smile to your face.
This is a fantastic place for kids of all ages (we saw so many families with young kids).

This zoo is a unique gem in Northeast Texas. My family visited the zoo to experience the April, 8th 2024 total eclipse and we were not sure what to expect of the zoo, except that all of the reviews were good! We arrived and immediately realized they were true. The crowd levels were low, the animal exhibits were lovely, the food was good, and we were able to see everything the zoo had to offer without rushing or wearing ourselves out. We were very happy with our visit and we will go back next time we are in the area to experience the South America expansion currently being built!

This is a true gem. This is one of the nicest zoos that we have ever been to visit. The place is set up very well and it is easy to navigate all three of the areas that make up the zoo. The animals seem to be well cared for and have ample area to roam in, more like a natural habitat than in most zoos, where they seem more like exhibits. This allows them to be themselves, and it is a great sight to see. The landscaping is excellent, easily one of the best jobs anywhere. The entire zoo is awash in colour so vivid that in some walkways the landscaping is the attraction and complements the areas splendidly. The concessions are well placed and decently priced, with friendly staff and a very clean area. There is even an opportunity to feed the giraffes if you are just a bit adventurous. The entire zoo seems to encourage appreciation of the animals and their habitats with an emphasis on education and conservation. The prices for everything from admission to concessions to souvenirs are very reasonable and are a great value for the price. I, and we, would highly recommend this zoo above many others to visit both for the diversity of wildlife and for the beautiful landscaping. This is a definite gem - don't overlook this, treasure it.

Had the best time ever!
What a cool zoo!
The entrance is beautiful with lots of steps to climb down.
You walk straight into the flamingo exhibit and they are gorgeous and fun.
We started at the rhino pin where the handlers were feeding the rhino there.
Giraffes, elephants, cool birds! So many things to see.
We got to see a beautiful Lion and Lioness, also a white tiger I believe playing with a ball in the water.
The penguins are adorable and one continued to play in the water right by the glass. The kids loved these exhibits.
Lots and lots of walking, did maybe about 6000 steps.
The gift shop was fun and they had lots of options and some really great plushies!
They even had small plastic frogs and lizards for 25 cents, so even if the kids don't have a lot of money, they could get a small toy or pencil for under a dollar.
10 out of 10 recommend!

Highly recommend this Zoo! They are adding a whole new section and always have everything open. Very kid friendly. Free parking. We love this Zoo 🐘🦒🦁

Great medium sized zoo. Perfect for a good day trip. We were surprised and impressed that they have so many elephants, giraffes, and even a beautiful Rhino!
Food prices are way too high, and it's sad that we just kind of have to accept it. Really looking forward to seeing the new exhibits and petting zoo or the kids. It's looking great!

Very little crowding and cute exhibits. Also, sidenote the flowers and landscaping done throughout was just beautiful especially the plants near the bird exhibit.

The zoo is small, but nice. Lots to interact with. There's a spot where you can feed birds, another where you can feed the giraffes. So much to see, my family and I really enjoyed our visit.

I visited on a Friday afternoon around 2:15pm. The zoo closes at 3:30 on weekdays. Be prepared for walkways with winding curves and steep inclines. The animals were out and busy for the most part. There were several animal habitats that were empty with no sign explaining why. The zoo needs resources to build up its exhibits, educational offerings, and landscaping. There were plenty of restrooms throughout and a large covered food court with seating near the zebras and elephants. This would work well for a birthday party. There was a lot of unused grounds displaying nothing but tall grasses and trees. This zoo would appeal to young children, the 50+ crowd, or those looking for a good walking or jogging workout.

This zoo was a great place to take my family. It is not too large but big enough to have lots of animals with plenty of space them to not be crammed. My girls loved feeding the giraffes as bell as the birds. The Cafe is poised in a good spot to eat and view the giraffes 🦒 and elephants 🐘. My family loves to visit zoos of all sizes around the country and this one is a top performer for the smaller zoos. Will be back in the future for sure

We absolutely love this zoo! We went recently and the weather was beautiful, but we have been before where it was so HOT. THANKFULLY, they have walk ways that are covered by vines and what not. Very friendly staff and security. Will continue to make this a day vacation spot for us! 🫶🏼

We were in Tyler from Dallas and decided to stop by here. It was cold, so there were only maybe 2 other families at the zoo. We had such a great time, it’s a small zoo but we loved how close you get to the lions and tigers. We’ll definitely be back.

We went around 11am the day before Easter. Park staff was friendly and helpful with giving us the best route thru the park. We were told to head left thru the construction that is going on first. We were told going left would allow us to walk down their steepest hills. There are leaf and paw prints pressed into the cement path that kids seemed to really enjoy "tracking". I watched others struggle heading back the opposite way from us (up hill) and our group was barely winded. Glad we took the park employees advice. 😆
Stephanie Velekei — Google review
We really enjoy coming here. I don't end up seeing the giraffes around half the time, so I need to figure out their schedule. 😆 My wife always says this zoo is better than the Dallas zoo. Overall, I'm really glad that Tyler has a zoo! We have been here around 10 times, and we have always enjoyed ourselves! We enjoy taking family members and friends here for a nice walk around the zoo. The food is actually pretty good as well!
EDIT!!! If the ground is too wet, then you won't be able to feed the giraffes! The giraffes' schedules are from 9:30-11:45 and from 1:15-3:00 when the ground is dry. 🦒

We loved visiting the Caldwell Zoo. The Africa exhibit was our favorite. We appreciated that it was a smaller zoo because our little ones couldn’t last at a big zoo! The only downside is the indoor exhibits were too crowded to get through and some had an unbearable smell.
Bianca Skelton — Google review
I have always enjoyed this zoo. It isn't huge, but you see quite a few of my favorite animals. I was skeptical about visiting while the weather was cooler, but the animals were out and viewable. Wonderful birthday trip for my 3 year old, and my 2 year old also enjoyed it.

It’s small but lots to see and I can’t wait till they finish the Amazon River !! The staff are amazing and helpful! Everyone was so friendly! When walking around visiting don’t forget to say Hi to Joe !! He was a friendly staff member ! Great place over all !!
The Tyler Rose Garden is a stunning, expansive public park spanning 14 acres. It boasts over 38,000 rose bushes as well as various other types of flowers and plants. The garden features fountains, gazebos, and walking paths that are perfect for enjoying the peaceful atmosphere while observing the butterflies and birds. Although entry to the garden is free, voluntary contributions are welcomed.
Weather was perfect. Rose's were in bloom. Still bit early for irises etc. It will be spectacular in a week or so! There is a beehive you can look inside. People were painting and taking photos of their children etc. Many areas to sit and enjoy the atmosphere. Great family outing.

The rose garden is beautiful, and the largest in the United States. It also has a large flower garden that the local Master Gardeners maintain. Very peaceful. Great place for walks, meditation time, and special occasion pictures. Something is blooming year round. It has water features and a pond with Koi.

What a wonderful garden that is FREE to explore. I am generally not a big fan of roses, but this garden is will make you love the bloom! There are all kinds of varieties of roses at this one location. We visited in April and the fragrance and sights were glorious.
Great place to host a wedding reception. Cute gift store inside.
Highly recommend stopping at this garden. It is thoughtfully laid out so all abilities can enjoy the grounds.
Donna Theimer — Google review
This garden was impressive. The only thing that was a bit of a bummer was that the roses are out of season so in regard to seeing roses, there were only trimmed bushes. However there are many other plants along the walk ways and the fountains and ponds are quite peaceful.
Petrus Steinmann — Google review
Beautiful place to go and see all the roses if you're in the area. There are dozens of different types of roses and it was perfect to walk through on an overcast day. Some of the roses were not doing particularly well, but it has been a brutally hot summer this year so that's not surprising. They have a honey bee observation hive which is pretty cool as you can open it up and see all the bees. Definitely a neat place to visit and it's free to walk through the outdoor rose garden.
Angela Nickelson — Google review
The roses are not kept up well this time of year. However, the side gardens are nice and worth the visit, which is free. There are places to sit in the shade in the various side gardens, and areas, and the Idea Garden (Master Gardener area) is really nice.

Always heard about it but never visited. We enjoyed all the beautiful colors of the roses and plants!
Saw a few bees and butterflies busy at work pollinating .
Wear comfortable shoes and enjoy the fresh aroma of the garden.
Not for picnicking, not a good place for pets (except the obvious service dogs).
Restroom was inside bldg and down a long hallway, very clean.

I've always loved the Tyler Rose Gardens. Have been visiting there since I was a young child, with my parents and grandparents, over 45 years. I now visit yearly with my daughter, who loves it as much as I do. The layout is so beautiful. Along with the gorgeous, multitudinous roses, are rolling green lawns, lovely fountains, a small pond, and large shade trees with many benches to sit and relax while enjoying the gardens. Inside the rose center are a museum, a lovely gift shop, and very nice restrooms. One can spend hours wandering the many areas of these pretty, well maintained gardens.

This is a beautiful free garden… Although voluntary contributions are excepted and appreciated. It’s most famous for the roses, yet there are a variety of other flowers. There are many places that you can sit and watch the butterflies and birds. It’s a very peaceful place and would encourage you to go for a visit to this beautiful oasis in East Texas.

Great place! Visited it in late May, the roses mostly stopped blooming, but the botanical garden was full of flowers of all kinds. Beautiful landscaping, lots of shade with benches and picnic tables under tall trees, interpretive signage throughout the garden. Very educational and enjoyable at the same time! Free admission. Small museum within the visitor center has fee.
Irene Petrov — Google review
Huge gardens full of roses. Went in mid-late May and there were still plenty of roses in bloom. Took about an hour to stroll through with some breaks. It is wheelchair accessible and plenty of benches to take a rest and photos. Admission is free, but donations accepted. Nice, small gift shop, but the cashier seemed to be more preoccupied talking with a friend that came in than assisting us customers buying things. I literally waited with things in my hand while she just continued chatting with the friend, exchanging phone numbers. It's the only reason I didn't give 5 stars.
J C — Google review
It was bigger than I expected and so many varieties of roses and other plants. I would say that it's a great place to take a book and relax! The sound of the fountains, the birds....very relaxing. Everything wasn't full bloom yet, but if you like the outdoors, it's something to see. I definitely want to go back during peak time!

Such a nice garden. The ground is well kept. Plenty of other types of flowers although the roses haven't bloomed yet during the time we visited. This is a photo op place. It also has a small museum and gift shop. We will come back when roses are in season. It has about 10-15 parking spaces. I am not sure if there's additional parking spaces somewhere to accommodate the busy season.

We enjoyed the free entry to the 14-acre park with more than 38,000 rose bushes plus fountains, gazebos & walking paths love the gardens, gift shop and museum! The roses are a sweet smelling once you walk outside to the garden from the museum. The history of the Tyler roses and activities are interesting to learn about at your own pace. A must to check out the shop which has interesting beautiful souvenirs and gifts.

We are pleasantly surprised to see all the beautiful roses on an early December day! The ground is beautiful. Not only the impressive roses collection, but also the autumn colors in the meditation garden. It definitely worth of the drive to visit!!

This is one of the most beautiful gardens I've had the opportunity to visit. The roses are amazing and the grounds are filled with photo opportunities. It's best to plan for at least 1.5 hours for your visit.
There are various sections to the garden, so be sure to grab a map. Tucked under a few trees and throughout the garden are relaxing pockets to sit and take it all in. I have found the best time to visit is late September to October. It's not as hot and the flowers blooming.

It was gorgeous. Although it was first day of spring and inky a few roses on the bushes there was lots of other blooms. Enjoyed the museum and gift shop too
Tyler State Park offers a peaceful setting with a serene pine forest and a picturesque lake. Visitors can enjoy various outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, nature study, fishing, and biking on the available trail. The park is home to diverse wildlife including bold raccoons that may be attracted to food left out. Although the campsites are spacious and well-maintained, some may find the close proximity of the hiking trail less secluded than desired.
This is easily one of the biggest state parks I've been to. Clean, the staff is extraordinarily nice and helpful. The park is clean and well maintained. The trails are well defined and easy to follow. The scenery is just amazing, so beautiful. The lake is spring fed and the water is extremely clear. I highly recommend this park for a daytrip or a weekend retreat or week long vacation!

Visited for a day. Clean, friendly, beautiful. The park is huge and we had a nice time walking around seeing the different views. They have fishing rentals like a library loan that we didn't get around to. There is a playground. Pet friendly. Good picnic areas.

One of the best parks in the state! Went in the dead of summer and still saw so much vegetation! Excellent trails and wonderful camping, especially for beginners! You can also rent row boats, paddle boats and kayaks. It's no wonder why they book camping sites fast. I highly recommend this state park!

Always a good time at TSP! Great swimming area, the camp sites are well maintained, and there are plenty of amenities, not to mention the funnest Mountain bike trail in the area. Anytime you can catch a hike or program with Ranger Boyd, do it. Ranger Boyd is great, very knowledgeable, funny, and great with all age groups.

My wife and I are new to Lindale. We loved walking the trails at Abilene State Park. Since moving here we have gone to Tyler State Park and truly enjoy the walking trail around the lake. We will be renting and/bringing a canoe or kayak. The park is beautiful with great campsites and RV hook ups as well. Don’t forget picnic areas and a playground. Perfect for a family getaway for a get away and get outdoors.

This park has plenty of wildlife to view and the raccoons especially are very bold. Keep your things put away lol. We saw one steal a guys tackle box! The park is beautiful with large campsites. We didn't like that there is a trail that goes around the entire lake. This means people will be walking close to your campsite and possibly pulling up their boats, kids, dogs from the lake. We just prefer a more secluded spot. They do keep the park clean and manicured. The lake is great for kayak or paddleboard.

Clear water and huge trees! This place is beautiful! Boat rental was easy and perfect! Lots of options! There are tons of camp sites, and the shelters looked nice, but we did not stay in one. There are tons of picnic areas as well!

A very nice State Park - warning, it fills up quickly so make reservations as soon as you can (six months in advance). There is a beautiful lake with a camp store, refreshment stand, boat rental and a beach area. There are lots of hiking trails and several fishing piers. The campsites are well spaced and the ones on the outer ring are a bit smaller than the inner ring since there are so many trees. The inner ring is very large and provides good space between you and the person behind you. There are many picnic spots around the park and some cabins built in the 1930's. We are here in early November and it is not very crowded but will be on the weekend, and I imagine the summer is quite busy. Would definitely come again.
Deb Mig — Google review
Nice small park with fishing lake and hiking/biking trails. There are some very nice RV spaces right on the banks of the lake. Good luck snagging one of those. They have canoe and kayak rentals. It was rainy while we were there, so we didn't get to do much.
I gave them 4 stars only because the park hosts in our area were nowhere to be found, until we went for one of our walks. As we neared the restrooms, on our way around the lake, he said, " You can't take your dog in there." I said,"What makes you think I was taking my dog in the restroom?" The reason it rubbed me the wrong way was the fact they were MIA while our neighbor let their dog roam free and poop in the grass where kids played. The host's wife was no better. She was outside their RV, and we said, "Hi." She just looked at us. No smile and no reply. I don't know about you, but I was taught to be polite and respond when spoken to. But don't let some poor park hosts deter you from going. It's beautiful. We'll go back.

What an amazing park this is! It has some construction going on and once it’s done it’ll be even better. It’s just huge and without the map it’s easy to get lost. The scenery is amazing! The swimming area is like a beach and just so pretty. The shelters are spacious and very clean. The bathrooms are super clean too. The grass is well cut and the fishing dock is so serene and just beautiful. Definitely a great park for camping.

There is a magic to Texas forests in the mist. It drifts through the towering oak and nut trees bare branches. Capturing the moisture and letting it fall in noisy drips. The vines and plants climbing the trees add an eerie feeling.
Relaxing after our hikes during the winter is much nicer with a heated shelter!
Goodman-LeGrand House & Museum is a museum that used to be a Civil War-era estate and is now a historic landmark. It showcases original furnishings and provides visitors with an educational experience about the family's history. A docent is available to answer questions and provide historical stories for guests during their hour-long tour. Guests visiting in late March through early April are treated to beautiful azalea blooms on the grounds.
Wow! The ladies who worked there were so sweet and knowledgeable. They allowed us to tour to the house and take our time. The history was so amazing. I don't usually tour historical houses but this was worth it. The folks were helpful and told me the history of the house. The house, I believe, is almost all original, as are the artifacts. Donations are accepted rather than an entrance fee. Worth the time? Absolutely. The town of Tyler? I was too early (March 3rd) for the roses and azaleas so didn't see anything else.

While my wife and I were visiting Tyler we went to see the Goodman - LeGrand Museum. The Lady that gave us the tour of the Museum was very nice, at that moment we were the only ones. The house was built in 1859 and everything in the house including Furniture, Clothes, Pictures, Painting and even the Wallpaper is original. Once she finished giving us the history of the Family and the House then on our own we would look at 1st and 2nd floor. She even told us that this House was the first house to have Electricity in the City of Tyler. The City of Tyler is a very nice place to visit. We are planning to go again soon.

The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about the house and family that owned it. It's a beautiful home, well worth the $2 per person suggested donation just to see the inside and all the period correct furniture and decorations. I definitely recommend stopping here and seeing an interesting piece of history if you're in Tyler and you love old houses. We went here on a spur of the moment decision driving past and it was a really neat place to see. The city has invested a ton of time and money keeping the house in tip top shape! Good for Tyler, honoring the wishes of the owner that left the house to the city!

From Louisiana and it was a total of six kids from age 2 to 12. Enjoyed all the separate stations for the kids. The only cons was that a few of the stations were down. Staff not interacting with the kids, the cashier that checked us in just told us it was stations on both sides. For a place for kids the restroom was not working, we had to leave early for the kids to use the restrooms.

What an awesome place to take young inquiring minds. There are so many areas for the little ones to explore. The exploration areas are separated, which makes total sense.
It was a little confusing finding the front door because it is hidden. The word "exit" is very visible from the parking lot, please know it is also the entrance. The cashier at the entrance provided informative details, which is necessary for first-timers.
CONS: there were several groups of campers there and that was a nightmare. When the campers were let loose in the science center they threw the grocery toys everywhere. On several occasions the older children yanked the shopping cart from my niece (3 years old) because they wanted it. The adults in charge of the campers were NOT supervising them. They were very destructive. I had to stay right next to the 3 year old for safety reasons.
Once the campers left it was peaceful and a pleasure for the kiddos (3 and 5). I loved that the little ones could enjoy play while learning.
Bathrooms are located at each section.

Very intriguing story from beginning to the end. Make sure to sit on the porch and take in the porch life of East Texas!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed having Rick and Larry guide us through this beautiful home. Both gentlemen made the visit extremely interesting through their story telling and gave us both a peek into the families that lived there and what life was like over the past 100+ years.
Faulkner Park is a city park located in the area that boasts of various amenities. It has a sizable tennis complex and a fishing pond, which used to be good but now lacks fish due to overfishing, causing it to become more like a city pond. Alongside the baseball field and playground is a splash pad for children's enjoyment.
Really great park for the kids and parents. There's hiking, conifers covered picnic tables, a pond, skate park and a splash pad! Great spot to get out with the family.

First time going to Faulkner Park and had a good experience! The splash pad could use some maintenance on some of its features but overall it was very nice! Love that all of the picnic tables are covered and the park was very clean!!

This is a really nice place to go for all kinds of purposes. You could fish, they have nature trails, biking trails, tennis courts, a skate park, a kids playground, a baseball park, a Tyler Library book drop, bathrooms and I'm probably leaving something out. There's also alot of ducks and turtles there. I think they are building on to this to make more😁.
Brittany XoXo — Google review
The lake part is okay it's a little overfished and there's no fish to catch it's becoming more and more of a city pond. There's trash everywhere and the ducks are terrible they've over grazed everything. There's a nice little dock/gazebo and lots of trails and snakes I've seen rat snakes, milk snakes and Mississippi mud snake. Overall and okay park. The fish I've caught are bass, catfish, trout, blue gill, and crapie. Red eared turtles box turtles and snapping turtles, there's also a beaver. I haven't caught any fish in the last 6 months I am an avid fisherman and will sit there daily for 12 hours straight. The park is open sun up to sun down.

My favorite park in Tyler. It has shirt walks in the woods to the pond, or you can spend hours on the larger trail. Walkers and bikers are always nice and courteous on the trails. I've seen deer, rabbit, squirrel, ducks, and armadillos.

Had a fun time @ the Faulkner Park Splash Pad. Only 3-Stars because the water system was consistently malfunctioning. The park had maintenance out to try and fix the problem, but it continued throughout the time we were there from around 11ish am to about 12:15ish.
But, the playground was fun. Park, playground, & splash pad were well kept and very clean.

We have played several tournaments here. The food is always great, some of it is a bit pricey...but not everything. The bathrooms have always been clean when I go in there. The fields are usually well kept and there is plenty of room to put your own chairs down to watch the games. It has a decent playground area on the lower level for the smaller kids to play.
Elizabeth Kilpatrick — Google review
Good courts. Open tennis and you can also reserve a spot ahead of time. They have family memberships which translates to a dollar a day. If you enjoy tennis and play often and have multiple people in the family who play tennis, would just go for the membership as it’s more cost effective than paying for each person each time you go.
Courts are well maintained and they have iced water at the courts for the patrons.

Pros
A wonderful park!
There’s a lot of room for the kids to run and play.
In the summer there is a splash park for little kids.
The playground equipment and grounds are well maintained and well lit even during the winter when it’s dark by 6.
Cons
The bathrooms are locked every single time I have been here no matter what time it has been.
It’s a wooded area and while this adds to the peaceful atmosphere there have been times I have left when I am the only one there with my kids bc I just didn’t feel safe.

Just did the small loop trail during a lunch break & seen a mama deer & her 2 precious fawns! Seen them several times during my walk. Nice clear trails to walk & quiet as long as there's no sports. This park seems to have a lot for kiddos, will come back & take a closer look around when I'm not on a time limit!

Been out here twice now within a month and can't say enough about how wonderful it is to ride. Today was my 38th Birthday and even with the rain I refused to cancel my ride and spent some great time riding inside and getting comfortable on Gracie. I used to ride when I was young but have missed it so much but so happy for Kim & her wonderful staff. Check these guys out and come ride and have a great time.

I have had multiple important experiences at this barn, and I wouldn’t have had them anywhere else. I take lessons here weekly, and it is well worth it. I learn so much within the hour that I ride, and simply being out there observing. Kim is willing to work with anyone, and the facilities are great.

I normally don't leave reviews but Brunson equestrian center is the place to go on trail rides, it very beautiful place to ride, my daughter is taking riding lessons learning the safety around horses and on horses. The staff is remarkable, they are very helpful in every way, I highly recommend coming here, Angelia and Kim are great

I was there for an International Equestrian Association event. It's a beautiful venue reminiscent of a Kentucky horse farm. Parking is more than adequate. The open arenas are picturesque and the covered arena has plenty of seating and a decent staging and warm up area. Lighting in the covered arena is a little challenging for photography (could be brighter), but it's workable. Stables are nice with good access. Food services can get taxed when there's a large crowd, and the inability to accept credit cards is just inexplicable in this day and age. Still, this is one of the nicer horse venues in the region.
Dave Senter — Google review
I hate doing reviews, each and every person’s experience is different and I don’t like leaving negative remarks for any business in today’s times. But I feel like this is fair and honest. We had our horse here from the end of September to Jan 30th 2022. At first the atmosphere seemed pleasant and everyone seemed nice. Fast forward to about three weeks in, I felt overwhelmed, the place is very dysfunctional, what you pay for is not what you get. Our horse was stalled all day and turned into a round pen at night, never let out into a paddock. Board at 750.00 per this facility your horse is groomed, let out to graze in a paddock etc that wasn’t the case with ours. The amount of injuries that are happening with the horses out here is disturbing, and no explanations as to how it happens. I know our horse was hit with something over the face and it was brushed off as a horse bite. We noticed a broken pitch fork by his round pen and when I questioned it the pitch fork was removed. There are horses getting out of the gates running down 110 and having to be chased by workers. This is not a safe place for your horse. The owner can be very rude but yet smile right at your face. The amount of drama and bullying of customers that we have noticed is sad. Screaming during riding lessons ,kids getting hurt. Just sharing my experiences out here , I would have given zero stars if it would have let me.

The Historic Aviation Memorial Museum is located in the former terminal of Tyler Pounds Regional Airport and houses exhibits, aircrafts, and memorabilia. Visitors can enjoy a personal guided tour by knowledgeable staff who provide valuable information about each aircraft on display. In addition to the impressive collection of planes and helicopters, the museum also features an indoor museum and restaurant. The experience is enhanced by fascinating stories from staff members like Rick who share their wealth of knowledge with visitors.
We had never heard of this museum until the day we went, and we are so glad we went! They have so many pieces of memorabilia from WWI, WWII, Vietnam, and more. There were a bunch of planes outside on the runway that we were able to see up close. Mike was very knowledgeable and taught us so many new things we didn’t know. Highly recommend!

From Tyler Rose Garden we stop by the Historical Aviation Memorial Museum. What a great museum. Lots of unknown facts. Both were super knowledgeable and you can see the passion in their eyes and hear the excitement in their voice. Great experience that I will repeat in the future! Go and visit if you never been there. I will recommend.

What a nifty array of aviation history right here in my own backyard!
I took my grandsons as a part of a homeschool outing and it was well worth our time. Upon arrival we were greeted by the friendly staff and paid a very small admission fee. There's a little gift shop near the entrance with a good selection of aviation related things to help you remember your visit.
Our little group of 8 was immediately escorted onto a secure area of the tarmac and walked through a great selection of planes and a helicopter . There were engines, decommissioned guns, and a small cabin that the kids could actually sit inside. Our guide was quick with information about the planes and great at answering the kids questions.
There is not an actual "tour" of the museum exhibits, however there are placards with good information. In several places, CD's are available to play that explain the display.
During our visit there were several cordial and well informed docents throughout the museum ready to answer questions and explain things to us.
Is obvious that this museum is the passion of those who work there, so go and soak in some of their love of all things aviation.
After your visit don't forget to stop at the Cafe in the lobby for lunch and check out the radio controlled small scale planes hanging from the ceiling while you wait.
Great way to spend a day and learn a few things in the process - thank you for having us!

What an amazing experience, HIGHLY recommend! I took a group of middle school students on a field trip to HAMM in Tyler, TX and they absolutely loved it! We saw planes take off and land in real time. We learned so much history and culture in a short amount of time. Bonus, our amazing guides were engaging and Spanish-speaking. Aviation offers so many careers and different opportunities for our upcoming youth! Thank you HAMM for the new knowledge and exposure! We WILL be back!

Great experience!! There was so much history, so many displays and the aircrafts outside were incredible. Whether you're an aviation expert or just someone that enjoys history, the HAMM is a great place to check out. My wife and I attended the Rose City Air Show on July 1, 2022 and we have visited the Historic Aviation Memorial Museum. All I can say is WOW!!! The museum is awesome and to see and read everything in there one needs two days. It is full of history and to me, a must see. Never mind the aircraft on the tarmac to be explored. The air show was magnificent, and I am hooked on air shows. Included are the B-29, which is THE aircraft that got me to the show, an A-10 and P-51 flying in formation (incredible!), and a T-33 Shooting Star (an aircraft I have seen up close and personal in Breckinridge, TX newly restored). This was a memorable afternoon and evening that I hope to repeat in 2023. Highly recommend a visit to this museum.

Beautiful, clear, sunny day, 1/13/22, and a superb personal guided tour by Michel H.
Michael was a walking encyclopedia of info about each of the aircraft and then some. A true gem of a find that not only had a fantastic collection of planes and helicopters, but an indoor museum and restaurant to round out a great stop to learn our history.
Drove from North Louisiana back to South Texas and found this route across Lake Palestine, beautiful Lake, when I got back home I told my Wife I would like to go on a trip up there, looks very relaxing and great place to get away. Will post a update after our trip in July.

My sister and her husband have lived on lake Palestine for over 45 years and I've had the privilege of fishing and exploring the lake. My father fished this lake and caught some of the largest catfish he ever caught. I used to help him run his trotlines and have some of the best memories from those trips.

My father-in-law and I go fishing often. He loves to drive around and try out new lakes. We took my son along a few times too. Every time we have gone fishing out here, we have had an amazing trip. Catching plenty of fish, and not a lot of down time. The lake is absolutely gorgeous and breathtaking in many areas. We had such a great time and continue to come back to this lake often. It stays in our top 5 for our rotation for a few reasons, but the view is worth it alone. It truly is a stunning lake, with some great sized fish to be able to make the trip worth it.

I didn’t get a chance to see or stop by to see the lake view as the area is occupied by residents and many private properties around. Couldn’t walk or no trails I could find. All you can do is just drive in your car to see the view from far!!!
Awesome historical site! Very educational, with rebuilt tents, and placards to read about the history of the place. It is all outdoors, so in the winter wear a coat. It is also a walk through so wear comfy shoes.

I definitely recommend that families should come here! The only suggestion that I can make is that I wish the upkeep was a little better for it being a historic site. It's wonderful to learn about the history, though.

Self-Guided Tour. Interesting how someone made a trench to circumvent sickness in the camp. Unlike Andersonville, it appears to have been run a bit differently. The other interesting idea was how deep south and west.. the Union was attacking the South. I think, there were southerners and northerners as far west as Oregon. A quick 40 minute history lesson.

This was a cool place to learn about a part of history. It is a self-guided tour so that you can read the information and walk at your own pace. It was fascinating and it was free! However, it could use some cleaning up. We saw trash all over the ground throughout the entire park.

Great history of our local involvement in the Civil War. It's also a good place to go for a leisurely stroll. Get off the paved trail and walk through the woods.
On the negative side, the place really needs some work. The garbage cans are overflowing and full of water, which should bring plenty of mosquitoes in a few more weeks. The cabin "roofs" are worn/torn. This place is too important to our history to be allowed to crumble.
Fred Clause — Google review
Visited the site for the first time with friends yesterday. It was in truly appalling condition. For being in such a monied city as Tyler, I was shocked. I had half a mind to write to Smith County Historical that very day. It was truly shocking. Many plaques were badly damaged, or flat out missing, the only structures (3 small log "tents"), were completely dilapidated, the bridges had ALL rotted away and were heaped into the gullies, the pathways they connected were shut down, and there is also an ATROCIOUS tick infestation. We were picking ticks off our clothing for hours after leaving, we were all covered in them.
There's simply no excuse for the neglect. Its obviously just a total lack of even BASIC maintenance. They aren't costly, or even time consuming repairs to make... it's all a simple fix but maintenance in general seems to have either ceased entirely or hasn't been done in years!
It's pitiful! I have never been to a historic site in such terrible condition, even the most underfunded have been far better maintained than this one is.
Really sad. I get the impression that the attitude is very much "if we let it all just rot away we won't have to maintain it anymore".
There's almost nothing to actually see anymore aside from the information plaques and the 2 or 3 little log tents, so it doesn't make sense that those few things cannot be adequately maintained.
Literally a couple hundred bucks and a volunteer group of teenagers could have that place done in a weekend! There's no excuse.

it was nice historical place to visit there wasn't much to it they had some pictures around the walking park and it was a little trail that you got to walk around in the fort but there really wasn't much to look at how many just look like a empty cleared Forest to be honest with you is still cool because they had old pictures of what it might have looked like back in the late 1800s what more can you expect from a place that's been gone for hundreds of years.

Really rustic which is nice but not. The site needs signage because it's unclear where you're supposed to walk. NOT at all ADA accessible as it's kept as natural as possible meaning my visit day it was raw messy, slippery muddy everywhere after rains. The most southern part of site just leads you to walk towards trees into a dead end because of a huge gaping hole, a ditch about 8 feet.

True Vine has accomplished their goal of creating a warm friendly open and inviting place to enjoy beer pizza and community. They have a large partially covered open space with a stage. They have events most Saturdays.
Ask the bartenders for advice or a sample. They have sample flights of four which is absolutely the way to go until you you've found your favorites. I tried the ¡Salud - Dry Hopped! and it is a beer that anyone who drinks beer should enjoy.
I'm generally not an IPA fan, and did not sample any. I'm told they are very good and they have a very well rated double IPA called Daddy's Juice Box.
I love malty things, nut browns, marzens, bocks, porters, English and Irish stouts etc.
I sampled Bock in the Saddle Again
Bock 4.5% ABV
It is a good bock, nothing uniquely special.
Giant Slayer Imperial Stout 9% 70 IBU
I was concerned about the 70 IBU, as that can be too bitter for my tastes, but the hops were not bitter. It is closer to a British Stout than many excessively bittered American versions.
Sanctimonium Belgian Style Quadrupel 10% 30 IBU is excellent and unique and curled our toes. You feel the 10%. It has many flavors, too many to describe. So savor it. It is liquid gold.
My ever so helpful bar maiden said that some people like to mix the Sanctimonium and Giant Slayer. We tried this on our own with a sample flight and agree this is an excellent blend but advise 2/3 Sanctimonium to 1/3 Giant Slayer.
If you live in the Dallas Metroplex, check the Saturday schedule and drive out with friends, or make new friends there over some great beer and pizza. They also have wines.

Great vibes, plenty of seating, and friendly staff! True Vine Brewing Company, along with Sola Bread Co, is a must-visit in Tyler, TX if you're wanting a great time over food and drink!
Drink:
I ordered their blond ale, which is called the Mermaids & Unicorns, and has a "bready, biscuity, and hoppy finish" as their website says. I enjoyed it! I love their branding and naming schemes around each drink, as well. Definitely coming back to ask for a personal recommendation in order to try something different that I may find enjoyable.
Location:
Lots of parking at this location. Lots of seating, both inside and outside. There's also a dedicated inside seating area in a building across the store where there's a stage for live entertainment. We came for lunch, but plan to come back another time at night to experience a different vibe. There's also a children's area outside for kids to run around and play.

Had a great time! The band was good, but SO loud, but it's that way any where really. The guy at the bar told me that the Cherry Lime Alc-Oh-Seltzer is gluten free and that they also had two beers on tap at that time that were gluten free as well.
I messaged the on-site restaurant, Sola Bread, via Facebook ahead of time for what gluten-free options they offered. I was advised that the Greek Salad and the charcuterie board would be my best bets. They were both delicious.
The Cotton Belt Depot Museum is a small yet intriguing attraction that showcases the local railroad history. Housed in an early-1900s passenger depot, it features exhibits on historical trains and is staffed by knowledgeable and friendly personnel who are happy to answer visitors' questions. The museum's collection of train models is particularly popular with children. While the costs of maintaining rolling stock often exceed ticket income, the City could explore additional ways to offer visitors a trip down memory lane through this fascinating museum.
Stop there if you pass through. Very friendly curator. You can see an original Rail Operator Manual from the 50’s. Locally hand crafted wood trains are fantastic. You can see the original Operator’s Control Board.

Decent place, but very small. Took us about five minutes to see the whole thing. It’s just a few small rooms. But very nice art.

Sad visit. Unkempt landscape in a city of gardens. Dry fountain on the front. Unwelcoming and despotic front staff made us just decide to leave immediately. Will not come back.

Saw the "Tyler Collects" and Melissa Miller exhibitions, both of which were fantastic. The museum itself is a bit spare, and a bit liminal, but on the whole, we enjoyed our visit. The staff were very welcoming.

Even though there nice paintings and photos here, this is hardly an Art Museum. It is more of a on campus art gallery for students, especially because it is located on the Tyler campus grounds

I love this little museum. They usually have two rotating exhibits. They seem to change out every two months or so. It's a small museum, but it's nice because you can really focus on the exhibits they have. I've seen many interesting artworks here, and many that have moved me in a way I did not expect. It's worth a visit.

Went with the kids. They have two galleries that rotate a few times per year. Family day the 2nd Saturday of every month for free admission. Something special the first Friday of every month too. I think that's also free admission.
Dory's Garden is a charming oasis nestled in the heart of Tylers historical azaela district. This hidden gem offers an array of unique gifts, stunning pottery, whimsical ironworks, striking fountains, delightful chimes, and of course an exquisite selection of plants. Dory herself is incredibly warm and welcoming. A visit to this garden promises inspiration and boundless joy. And while you're there, don't forget to pay a visit to Dory's beloved hens!

My daughter had seen this place and we decided to check it out. It’s a gardener’s paradise! The selection of flowers and plants is extensive and Dory is extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of gardening and landscaping. Never will I go back to Lowe’s or Home Depot for plants!

Our favorite stop on our short road trip to Tyler. Dory was so sweet and her shop and gardens were beautiful! There are fun surprises around every corner! Her plants are gorgeous and healthy and reasonably priced!
