Located on the east end of Poipu Beach, this beach park offers swimming, boogie boarding, surfing, and more. A protected baby pond and lifeguard tower make it a safe place for children to play.
Lovely relaxed beach which is perfect for families and children of all ages. There's attentive lifeguards safeguarding both humans and wildlife. We saw 5 turtles and sea lions resting cordoned off so people can't go too close. There's a fantastic Deli for sandwiches and more nearby. Yet to try anything else but this beach was a hit for our first day in Kauai.

Was a very nice little beach. I really enjoyed the sunset while I was there. The chickens were also very entertaining and rambunctious.
As with any ocean venue, use caution and pay attention to all of the warnings posted for your safety. This area has strong currents and is openly posted. Come prepared and informed of all conditions. Sunscreen should also be mentioned and used.

Great beach on the south shore. Plenty of parking, although it can full up by midday. Great blue water, areas for snorkeling. Calm area for kids and area further out for surfing. Turtles on the beach especially at sunset and monk seals sleeping on the beach during the day. Food, puka dogs, and shave ice right across the street.

We just bought our own snorkel set from Costco and some underwater shoes from Amazon to protect against the coral and explored on our own. We saw a bunch of fun fish when we snorkeled here, the coral didn’t look as colorful as I expected but there was still plenty to see. We also saw 6 Hawaiian sea turtles come up to nap on the shore while the sun was up, and about 40 made their way up after sunset! They don’t like flashlights disturbing them in their rest, so the docents remind people regularly to turn their flashlights off. Bring a red light if you want to see those or come out on a full moon for better light.
We also spotted two Hawaiian monk seals napping on the shore as well! We asked around and the turtles come out almost regularly near sunset but not always as many and not always as long, same with the seals. The seals are solitary so they don’t stick around in groups. It’s rare for more than one to surface at a time but when they do they don’t group together like the turtles. It was pretty neat to watch and I especially appreciated that the docents protect the wildlife and make them feel safe enough to want to return to these shores regularly

Excellent place for watching turtles. Kiddie pool is packed with kids and adults, but snorkeling is excellent. Be careful with the coral the tide is low and sharp. Bring shoes. Try not to step on the coral!
Great for watching the sunset.

One of the best kept secrets in the pacific coast. I love the beaches because it has so many activities like snorkeling, Surfing, watching turtles and seals and if you are lucky you can find big fishes. We enjoyed our time at Poipu Beach Park. I will definitely come back again to visit.

Best spot for snorkeling that we found while we were here. We saw so many fish, turtles, and even a seal. They have life guards here as well as faculties. It is also right across from several great places to eat.

Beautiful beach for sunset.
Waves are calm to see turtles and seals at sunset
Calm enough durning the day to snorkel. Nice variety of fish to see but reef is quite grey.
Bring a beach chair and umbrella.
Some days you can find people placing volleyball.
Nice eateries close and free parking lot available.

This was a really nice beach with great snorkeling, and opportunity for sea turtles and seals on the beach (must stay 10 feet away). Be prepared for some rocks where you snorkel but it felt very safe. There is also a sandy area of the bay for children. It did get pretty crowded later in the day but somehow it was still relatively quiet and comfortable. There are some options for shade, including trees and a small pavilion.

Beautiful beach, although VERY crowded. It has a nice stretch of protected water for kids, but bring water shoes as the water is very rocky. The waves are relatively small, but my kids still loved playing in the water. We saw several monk seals, and watching turtles come on the beach at sunset was a magical experience. However, I would recommend checking out the Sheraton beach, as it is less crowded, sandier, and has better waves. The facilities were TERRIBLE, no soap and the bathrooms were the grossest I’ve been to in my life.

This was probably the best beach we visited in all of our visit to Hawaii. I'm sure there are better, but this was great. There's a nice shallow area to swim without worry of waves. There is also some excellent snorkeling. I saw 4 or 5 fish I hadn't seen snorkeling anywhere else in the world. There were some Hawaiian green sea turtles resting on the beach that were super cool.

There is so much to love about this park! It has picnic tables with pavilions and a wonderful playground for the kids. Lifeguard, bathroom, showers and easy water access that is protected by a reef so it is safe to snorkel and wad without worries. Part of the part has grass with trees if you need to stay out if the sun. Oh and big green sea turtles resting on the sand.

Awesome to visit. I was so excited to see the sea turtles come into shore and fall asleep on the beach. The sunset was spectacular. One may snorkel, swim, watch the sea turtles and a seal close to the shore. A very beautiful beach to schedule in your itinerary.

so gorgeous!! and there were turtles!!! we went back there at the end of our trip and didn't regret a single second!! kid friendly, great snorkel spot, and beautiful sunsets every night!!! (i love all the chickens on kauai!!!!)

Shallow for a bit but be careful of sharp rocks. The strong winds can definitely invert any beach umbrellas. Priceless to see a turtle swimming along the shoreline. My brother in law got out pretty far with a boogie board and fins.

Simply amazing! Calm waters for the littles, snorkeling with plenty of sea life to spot! Turtles come in at sunset... wait for them! Sea lions too! ❤️🐢🐠

Very lovely small beach park
Decent snorkeling, and body boarding
Free parking, but it gets very busy.
Bring an umbrella, it gets hot in the sun!
Good chance to see turtles and monk seals.

Beautiful but popular beach. We came to watch the turtles rest in the sand around sunset. Note: NEVER TOUCH THE TURTLES. Our human hands have bacteria that will grow barnacles/lesions on the turtles shells, which will eventually kill them. The locals coned off an area for them and thankfully everybody was being very respectful! We saw 2 monk seals hanging out in the bay as well. There were still some people surfing and boogie boarding in the water around sunset.
Kristina Marion — Google review
Snorkel here in small area on the right side of the beach in front of the island. You can't go far due to large waves and you won't see coral here but a good number and types of fishes can be seen. Green sea turtles bask on the beach here often and a large monk seal. It gets crowded so go early for ease of parking and fewer snorkels in the water. The is a nice protected area free from waves for toddlers and young kids on the left side as you look out from the beach. On the right side surfers ride the waves. There are restrooms and covered and uncovered picnic tables. Even a play are for kids.

It's a very basic beach. Extremely packed. Probably one of the more popular beaches for swimming and it has an area with stronger waves for surfing too. Has access to food and snacks close by as well. Also, sea turtles are common here.

The drive to the beach was beautiful. The beach itself was VERY busy. Lots of people. My daughter loved swimming there, though, and a giant turtle swam right past her. There were 3 large turtles that were resting and basking in the sun. Beautiful.

We could see whales and dolphins at times in the ocean and monk seals and giant turtles on the beach. Great boogie boarding, and snorkeling too. Sand is soft. No shade so you may want an umbrella. Love it!

Nice park and beach with picnic tables, short grass, lots of chickens and roosters, sleepy turtles, and a diverse selection of people. Turtles are tired at the end of a long day but fun to watch. Overall great park to visit.
If you're looking for a safe and easy snorkeling spot on Kauai, then Lawa'i Beach is a great option. The water here is clear and abundant with marine life, making it an ideal place to start if you're new to the sport. There are often snorkel lessons or tours taking place within its waters, so be sure to check the calendar before heading down.
This is a great place to snorkel. Lots of fish and turtles. The entry is a little rocky but once you are in, the fish are plentiful.

This is a really nice beach with lots of opportunities for snorkeling. Very, very rocky getting into the water but there was one area where you could see a stretch of sand going out far. Even if you didn't, other beachgoers were very helpful in pointing out where to go. There were also a decent number of flat rockers where you could sit to put on your fins. Across the street is a bathroom and outside is a shower.
Lesu Ali — Google review
This is a very small beach and does not have a lot of shore to lay on. It is fairly rocky but it boasts a nice inlet area towards the shore that makes it a prime snorkel spot. If you are staying close by and want snorkel it is nice having it close to home. Aside from that it isn’t really worth it if you are not snorkeling or have to drive a bit to get to it. We did see our first beached seal here sleeping and soaking up some rays which was cool.

Great snorkeling here (we visited in February). We saw lots of different fish, urchins, sea cucumbers, and my husband saw a sea turtle. Go early in the morning, the water was less murky than later in the day and there were very few people at the beach early.

Stumbled on this beach on the way back to our hotel after visiting Waimea canyon. Skeptical of snorkeling reviews because it’s relative. This is the real deal. We just got back from Maldives so trying to level set expectations around island. Was super impressed with snorkeling here. Many fish species, coral and five sea turtles. Rocky entrance but can access through a couple sand entrances. Not too crowded given little sand beach and light parking capacity. We got a spot right across street. Kids had a brownie sundae at Riptide snack shop.

On snorkeling websites this beach is called prince kuhio beach. Very pretty, beautiful weather when we went in October. Definitely rocky so be prepared going in and coming out but once out there is beautiful for snorkeling - fish, sea turtles, urchins and more to be seen here. Has a bathroom right across the way that also has a shower off area and a snack shack called Riptides that has shaved ice, snacks like beef jerky, and drinks. There’s also a restaurant a minute walk down the road but we didn’t try it. Not easy to get a quick bus over here so we took a Lyft.

Small beach in area of condos and resorts. A popular local spot for surfers so a great place to watch their skills. The beach is t very big so you don’t see many people laying or beach combing. There is always a snorkeling going on. Turtles are often in the surf around the corner. There is one stand to buy shaved ice and some food. The Beach House is here which is an upscale restaurant that serves dinner. Reservations are a must! Great location for sunset. Benches along the walkway. Parking can be a challenge. It is located not far from the main Poipu shopping.

Small but pretty public beach. Lifeguard on duty for extra safety. There's a monk seal typically on the end near the resort, but please respect the wildlife and stay off the perimeter. You can order food and drinks from the Lawai Resort and rent gear if needed as well. Seems to be popular with surfing as well. Plenty of public parking available.

Best snorkeling spot we’ve visited so far, after snorkeling a few spots in Maui and Kauai. Most diverse fish we’ve seen by far, and we were able to follow a turtle in the water for about five minutes. Amazing. A little tough getting in and out of the water due to the rocks. But we saw people of all ages doing it.
Not a whole lot of area available on the beach but we found a spot no problem. Some people set up their beach chairs on the grass next to the Beach House restaurant.
Also got a hot dog from the snack shack across the street, pretty good and convenient. Bathrooms next to the snack shack.

A little tricky to get in the water with the rocks, but the best snorkeling we found on the island. Saw TONS of fish and other people snorkeling with us saw turtles.
The Mahaulepu Coastal Trail is a picturesque hiking trail located on Kauai's south shoreline, which stretches for several miles. It starts from the Grand Hyatt and ends at Haula Beach, passing by Shipwreck Beach. The trail is mostly flat and offers an excellent opportunity to spot marine life such as sea turtles, monk seals, and other creatures that reside in tide pools along the path. This hidden gem of Kauai provides stunning scenery best enjoyed during sunrise or sunset.
Old Koloa Town is a restored plantation-era village that houses shops, museums, and restaurants. It is known for its significance in Hawaiian history as the location of Hawaii's first sugar mill built in 1835. The town offers a glimpse into the region's past and showcases exhibits about Koloa's sugar history. Tourists can enjoy souvenir shopping or dine at various eateries found in the area.
So much fun to walk around and explore! Looks like a new area will be opening soon that should bring a lot of potential to the old town. A lot of places unfortunately looked like they went out of business due to Covid.

The old town was extremely cute but some of the shop keeps were very rude. My boys were looking at toys and got yelled at for touching the toys..... so be careful as kids can not touch toys they may be interested in. Even if your considering buy one of the toys you can't touch them....was so blown away by these KARENS. The buildings are super cool and give that old island feel.

Old Koloa Town is where you go to see some history of Kauai. A lot of the small town structure is still there, including the walkways, plus a new addition in the last couple of years. Shops include a grocery store, art shops, ice cream, collectibles and more. Parking as always can be challenging, but it’s great to see historical towns.

So good we went twice in our one week visit. Skip the crowds on the north shore and enjoy some shopping and ice cream. There are several restaurants, two breweries, and two art galleries full of local artists. There's a local market at the end, so you can take dinner makings home. Also, pizza! Something for everyone.
Cross the street to learn about the old sugar plantation for a little local history.
Shipwreck Beach is a popular spot for body surfing and sunset watching, but the waves can be dangerous for novice swimmers. The beach is also great for windsurfing and sunbathing.
Beautiful beach area with a trail that scatters close to the cliffs or into the trees. Super fun exploring. The waves are Hella big.. surfers there but they were getting pounded pretty bad. Beauty from the driftwood, trees, cliffs, waves and everything between. Wouldn't go in the water but we saw and ran into some guys fishing off the coral ledge. Super cool area!!

Shipwreck beach is a great beach to soak in the sun, watch the waves or to use as a home base for exploring. Since both the Mahaulepu Heritage Trail and Grand Hyatt (for drinks and food) are right there you've got lots of options!
The Grand Hyatt resort is to the right of the beach. Anyone can stop in for a drink or a bite to eat. Their beach front pools, waterslide, lazy river and cabanas are spectacular and you're able to buy a day pass to enjoy them.
The Mahaulepu Heritage Trail, a hiking trail that explores the coast, runs thru Shipwreck beach. It's a beautiful trail and worth doing just a little of (or all of!).
The water is pretty rough here and the waves get big. You'll often find locals surfing and people jumping off the cliff to the left of the beach. It's a tough swim back to the beach, so make sure you're a strong swimmer of you want to go cliff jumping.
There are some large rocks where the beach and water meet so be careful if you decide to go for a swim or try to snorkel.
You'll find lots of chickens and roosters around the trees lining the back of the beach. These trees drop little pinecones so the sand around them is prickly, but they do provide some great shade.
There is a decent amount of parking (both in the lot right next to the beach and on the side of the road leading up to it), toilets and a rinse off shower. There is also a little green area with a few picnic tables.

Really beautiful beach with an exciting view of the cliff that swimmers can jump off of. Looks like it's conveniently located for local hotel goers, but if you're visiting, parking is very limited. There's a dedicated lot but not enough space so you'll have to park within walking distance. I believe there's parking up the road to the resort. Public restrooms and showers to wash sand off of you are available.

Nice beach to watch the sunset or soak up some sun, but pretty rough waters. People were climbing up the cliff to jump off, but looked pretty dangerous. “Shipwreck Beach” needs to be renamed to “Nude Beach”. People play in the shore break..the waves are so strong, that their swimsuits come off..natures way of saying “we’re all naked in the eyes of the lord”…😂🤣..I’ve seen more “crack” here than on the streets of Chicago..but really fun entertaining beach.🏄♀️🏝️

Love this beach! Bathroom and outdoor shower to rinse off. I actually showered(shampoo/soap) with my trunks on after the beach. We had to be out of our condo but flights out don't leave until pm hours. Hotel grounds are beautiful! You can't use hotel chairs or pool without staying there (must have a wristband) but you can go to the bar and get drinks/food. I recommend bringing a cooler with your own drinks and snacks. Resort food is pricey!
Great waves for surfing, etc. Undertow and riptide can be strong here so be cautious!
And of course you can jump from the rock! I did it years ago, but just watched this time.
Have fun, stay safe!!!
Only negative is parking! Very limited close by, but you can drop-off and then go park.
Plenty of shopping nearby also

This was our favorite beach to go at night to watch the sunset. It's so peaceful, not too crowded at night and the sunsets were amazing. There's a rock you can hike up on at the far end of the beach. The views are stunning from the top of the rock.
There are great tide-pools on the west end of the beach. It was fun watching all the fish swimming in these small pools of water.
My wife and I went to this beach to read, listen to the waves come crashing in on the shores and to people watch. When I say people watch, I don't mean that in a creepy way, but what I mean is that every night there were photo shoots happening on the beach and it was enjoyable to see these beautiful families creating memories and having so much fun taking pictures.
The north end of the beach is the back side of the Hyatt Hotel. This is an incredible hotel with beautiful swimming pools, swings that overlook the ocean and showers to wash off the sand. You don't have to be a guest at the Hyatt to sit on the swings or wash off your feet. While you can't use their swimming pools, they do create to the atmosphere.
Shipwreck beach isn't a great place to swim, boggie board or surf, but that's not why we went to this beach.

Shipwreck Beach is one of my favorite beaches on Kauai. It is adjacent to the Grand Hyatt Resort, has a decent parking lot and basic bathrooms at the entrance to the beach. A walking trail starts at the parking lot and leads along the back side of the beach to the left if you’re facing the water. At the end of the sandy portion of the beach, the trail begins a lovely uphill climb to cliffs and a headland over the ocean. There is a variety of rocks and driftwood on the beach as well as many kinds of trees and bushes with diverse textures and colors. The birds add a symphony to the existing wind and waves.
It is worth your time to go up onto the cliff above the ocean. It feels like a volcanic wonderland! The pictures will show you just how vast it feels on top, and I found that I would have loved to sit there for hours, listening to the waves.
Someone else commented on the danger of jumping from the cliff into the water. I wholeheartedly agree that this is not a safe place for swimmers.
It is, however, a fantastic place to take a moment to appreciate the beauty of Kauai and the Pacific Ocean! A perfect place for an occasional visit from a Hawaiian Monk Seal to wonder at you as much as you are marveling at it!
The Allerton Garden is a lush botanical garden with over 858 flowering plants and ferns, located on the south side of Kauai in the Lawai Valley. The garden was once owned by Queen Emma and contains plants from across the Pacific. It is now open to the public and features stunning views of the bay and lava rock formations.
Beyond amazing. We did the Allerton by Fire and we are already planning another trip to see more. I really don’t understand why there aren’t more 5 stars - if you like nature, enjoy being immersed in beautiful landscapes with rich history and a fun twist (with the best guide Ron!) then you have to check this out. We loved this experience and cannot wait to return. Bring bug spray, long sleeved shirts, longer pants/leggings because the bugs get bad and it can get a little chilly. This was a wonderful trip for the whole family!

We absolutely love this place! We've done the Allerton tour twice now. It was money well spent both times... and we'll be back again. The gardens are beautiful, the guides are knowledgeable and friendly and the memories last a lifetime. It's so cool seeing the trees from the, "life finds a way" scene in Jurassic Park!

Truly the most beautiful place I have ever seen in my life. I HIGHLY recommend this tour. Just unbelievable views, plus even movies have been filmed there, like Jurassic Park.
The tour guide was very knowledgeable, so make sure you give him a tip. I think I took 75 pictures for our photo album.

Allerton Gardens was beautiful and it was interesting to learn about the history of the location and it’s owners. Also, very cool to see where some of the iconic Jurassic Park scenes were filmed. Staff was knowledgeable and helpful with any questions.
We did the Allerton by Fire tour…this tour was very pricey. You do not get to see the McBryde Conservation garden or even all the rooms at Allerton with this tour. Bummer! You do however get to see the Allerton house and have dinner and a fire/hula show. We were not impressed by the house so that was kind of a dud. Seems like some of the original beauty was washed away during the last flood/hurricane. Also, if it rains, which it did during our tour, there wasn’t a great backup plan for the show, as it needs to be performed outside. The staff did their best to make it work but perhaps a covered lanai would be a better option for the tropics where it rains intermittently daily. The food was ok, but for the price, I was hoping for something not served out of a lunch pail and cold. But the presentation and attention to detail welcoming guests deserves a gold star. The performers were talented and worked well under the constraints of a rainy night.
Beware two things - mosquitos and tardiness. They will leave you if you are not present at departure time sharp. We were in the parking lot two minutes before and they were calling us to ask where we were. The mosquitos are BAD!!! Wear bug repellant and clothing that covers unless you want to get eaten alive.
Overall, you go to see the gardens…so take the guided garden tour that’s three hours and see both McBryde and Allerton Garden and skip the evening show.

Definitely recommend booking a tour to visit these gardens! My mum and I did the Best of Both Worlds tour of both the McBride and Allerton gardens. The first portion is a shuttle tour through the McBride garden, and the second half you get to walk through the Allerton garden. I really enjoyed both aspects of the tour, it was super informative and educational, and it really makes you appreciate all the incredibly hard work that goes into conservation of plant species. You also get to see where some of the various Jurassic park scenes were filmed, which is fun too! All in all, really glad we did this and recommend to anyone visiting Kauai :)
Also definitely bring bug spray ;)

We visited on our honeymoon and we are so glad we did. I don’t know how there isn’t more 5 star reviews! Our tour guide Ron throughout the Allerton by Fire was worth 5 stars alone! We were thoroughly entertained and amazed by the beauty that the gardens had to offer. The bento box dinner was extremely tasty with the fire and hula dances that were thrilling to match. Make sure to wear longer sleeves, cover most your legs, and bring some bug spray. I highly recommend spending time here - the ticket pricing goes straight back to the conservation of the gardens here. I wish I took more pictures but I was too enthralled with all that Allerton had to offer. We will be back for sure!

This tour is a MUST if visiting Kauai, we had such an amazing time learning about all the plants and Kauai history. I’m the last guy that thought a trip to a botanical garden would be enjoyable but this ABSOLUTELY was. We did the double tour that visits both Allerton and McByrde and the gardens are amazing, it’s truly breathtaking. Our guide Ron was so funny and enjoyable to be with, he really knew his stuff. This tour was a great experience. We did the two gardens in one tour. Our tour guide Michael was fantastic. He modified the tour based on the interests of the group. The tour was not difficult physically but might be hard for anyone with mobility or balance issues. Definitely take the caution about shoes seriously. It can be very muddy and slippery in parts of the gardens. At one point we walked through an active cow pasture. Wear shoes that can be easily cleaned and definitely avoid any type of sandel. Also recommend hiking shoes rather than gym shoes.

James was great. I know right what’s some 20 year olds and 30 year olds want to know about plants. But it’s super cool. Even in the rain. Also this is where they filmed some of the pirates of the Caribbean movie and Jurassic park where they discovered the raptor eggs!
James is super nice and chill. He volunteers 4x a month

Allerton is a wonderful garden, and the tour is very historically interesting. However, the tour did not allow a ton of time to explore the garden, not many plants were labeled, and many of the garden areas seemed lacking- unfinished in design or execution. While I highly recommend Allerton and McBryde for a visit, they are not the "be all, end all" of tropical botanical gardens.

We visited early March, near the end of the rainy season. We lucked out with no rain, but umbrellas are provided if needed.
The tour begins and ends at the gift shop. You will be transported via shuttle bus 5-10 minutes down the road into the gardens. We opted for the docent-led tour, which I would recommend as you gain so much more insight into the reasons behind the design of each area of the garden.
My words will not be able to describe the amazing views of this garden and the photos will only give you a small teaser. Make time for this excursion.

This was such a great tour! The views, trees, plants, and gardens are already remarkable and absolutely breathtaking but Ron makes this whole tour even more fun and enjoyable! He is very knowledgeable but also very funny, charismatic and outgoing. We had many laughs which was not expected going to a garden tour! This was a pleasant surprise. It was a great length tour too. Only thing missing was that we forgot to take bug spray and got bit up but that’s ok :) Thank you Ron for an exceptional tour!

These gardens have such a rich history and a vast variety of species. Our tour guide Ron was hilarious and very knowledgeable about the gardens. Last but not least, the fire show and food was outstanding!!!

Beautiful gardens. My wife came out of the tour grinning ear to ear. The guide was very funny and knowledgeable about the plants and the history of the gardens.

Allerton Gardens was amazing! We came in late September so it wasn’t too hot. We absolutely loved our tour guide called Ron he is funny and enthusiastic and very knowledgeable about the place. We did the The Best of Both words and we are coming back in the future for the dinner and sunset tour.

We loved learning the history of the Allerton's. We're thankful for their vision and to be able to come and enjoy the fruits of their labor! This is a very magical special place that I will always remember!
Spouting Horn is a natural blowhole on the island of Kauai in the state of Hawaii. It often spouts seawater up to 50 feet into the air, accompanied by a hissing noise. The sight of this impressive feature is one which has inspired an ancient Hawaiian legend about a lizard that got stuck in the blowhole.
Beautiful drive out to the spot, lots of available parking, restrooms (although they are of the public park variety), and spectacular views. We observed the water spout and also saw some whales. The quintessential Kauai experience!
Kirk Hauer — Google review
Nice place with rest rooms and picnic benches. Lots of roosters around for kids to get excited about.
The spouting horn makes good horn noise, the spouting depends on waves sometimes it is pretty big sometimes it is small. So stick around for few minutes to experience large and small fountains.
Mehul Rajput — Google review
Great view of the ocean and a solid spot for whale watching so bring your binoculars. Also fun seeing/hearing the oceans crash into the horn and creating a rainbow. Plenty of space to sight see and watch the sunset as well. Public restrooms available, and plenty of parking available.
Sway A. — Google review
Follow the directions and you will come to the perfect spot for Sprouting Horn. But it does require patience, and mostly your camera isn't ready. We were grateful our kiddos had some other kiddos to chat with while we waited, and to comment on the turtle we saw.
This spot has bathrooms, always a plus!
Lesu Ali — Google review
This was fun to see and don’t regret it but it would have been even better during a stormy day when the waves were much bigger. We saw some turtles close to the bank and whales out in the far distance. Personally I’d like to get closer to the water spotting horn but you can’t

Nice picnic area. Restrooms available. Parking isn't abundant but seemed enough when we visited (April, mid-week, mid-day). There may be a little wait time for a larger body of water to spout. It sounds really like a horn. Wheelchair accessible.
Ivana M. — Google review
Loved the visit here, especially after hearing the story of the legend. You can hear the hiss and rumble of the air and sea. Beautiful views of the island and sea. Relatively easy drive to access the park, it was quite busy but we were able to find a parking spot.

It’s another beautiful stop on the kauai island. We loved watching the full ocean and it’s big waves blast through the volcanic holes during a small storm ! Highly recommend.

It’s not old faithful- it doesn’t go off every 90 minutes or 90 seconds! Be patient! It was amazing to hear so many people complain they didn’t know when it would go off 🤦🏼♀️
The tide, the wind all affect the blowhole. It’s great at sunset. You get spectacular views. Take your time and enjoy the view. We saw whales from the vantage point too!
Katie Tobler Bryant — Google review
This is a famous natural blowhole attraction, it’s quite near to Poipu beach. The sight of water shooting through an opening in the lava rock coastline, the water thrust upto 50 feet into the air, accompanied by a deep roar, is truly amazing. The area is well-equipped with dedicated parking and restroom facilities, making it a convenient stop for visitors. Besides the impressive water display, if you're lucky, you may also catch a glimpse of sea turtles floating near to the coastline.

We had a good day with some decent waves pushing water 50 ft into the air. As you can see from my pictures the weather was perfect!!

Saint Raphael Catholic Church, established in 1856, is the oldest Catholic church in Kauai and a significant historical site in Koloa. The church's beautiful open-air design and serene grounds make it a must-visit for those interested in history and architecture. Visitors can also explore traditional Hawaiian temples nearby to immerse themselves in the local culture. The warm welcome from parishioners adds to the overall experience, making it a special place for both locals and visitors alike.

I love this little church. Build in 1841. It is where my dad was baptized in 1912 (the year that the Titanic sank). We took our grandson to see it. Neat, clean with a great sense of reverence.
The Kauai Community Market is a local farmers' market that takes place regularly. It offers an array of fresh produce, locally grown and sourced from nearby farms. Additionally, visitors can find homemade goods such as baked goods, artisanal crafts, and handmade soaps. The market provides a unique opportunity for local vendors to showcase their products and connect with the community. The atmosphere is vibrant, with live music and cultural performances adding to the overall experience.
Loved it! The local food and produce was wonderful. We bought delicious noodles, chicken and beef grilled on a stick, with an egg roll and fruit empanada that was fried. We also had fresh coconut water and coconut meat. Also brought home Kauai honey for ourselves and family from a bee farm 10 minutes from the market. The backdrop of the mountains in the background was amazing.

One of the best farmers markets I’ve ever been to! We were able to get there early before the outdoor market officially opened at 9:30 on Saturday to get sugarloaf pineapple. The line was very long and supply was limited. We were able to get fresh cut pineapple, a fresh juice and a whole pineapple. I bought a bag of calamansi fruit for $3 (I wish they had these on the main land). We also got amazing ribs from one of the Korean food tents.

Biggest Farmer's Market on Kauai. Held at the KCC parking lot. You cannot miss seeing it from the road. Not as large the Hilo's Farmers Market or what you can find in Oahu.
Prices are reasonable if you go towards the end of the day, after 12:15, and you walk around the big loop a couple of times. Bought a dozen apple bananas for $3 and 7 ripe Hawaiian Papayas for $5. Bought 3 Lumpias for $5 and the lady gave us a free Banana Lumpia as a bonus. We enjoyed eating fresh, ripe local fruit for 6 days.
3/3/2018 Update: Went an hour before closing to get lunch and pick up apple bananas and Hawaiian Strawberry Papayas. Papayas were not as ripe, smaller, and pricier ($2 each), guess due to seasonality.
Tried the flaky, crispy Spanish Empanadas (cabbage, eggs, pork) & Pork Adobo Plate Lunch from Kauai Family Cafe (Local Filipino restaurant) stand and fresh kimchee from Kauai Kimchee (spicy good!).

Great selection of vendors. Get there early for the bakery! They sell out! Fresh fish, produce, and plate lunch too.

I’d was great mingling with the locals at the Farmers Market. The weather was beautiful and the people were welcoming. We bough 2 lbs of Honey called July because it tasted amazing. It has a blend of flavors from coconut to various fruits. The Sugarcane Juice was also very good and refreshing. Not too sweet, just sweet enough. The market was spacious so the vendors were not on top of each other. You could freely walk and experience every tent you pleased to visit. We go to taste lots of fruits and vegetables that were new to us. Great experience!
Rhonda Martin — Google review
This is a fantastic market. Tons of vendors: local fruit, flowers, prepared foods, baked goods, popsicles, honey, etc. the prices here are lower than some of the more touristy markets too. My husband said the best food he has had here was at this market, he had a really great short rib lunch. I had lots of fruit at really great prices and a yummy popsicle.
Alexandria Wenninger — Google review
I visited the market with my son and his wife. We ordered food from multiple and enjoyed everything we bought. We also purchased some fresh fruit to eat later. We tasted the honey and bought some to take home with us.

The marketplace is a lively place with a good variety of stands, especially for fruits and veggies. I noticed a few stands that were different, but none sold arts and crafts. The atmosphere is not too crowded and enjoyable.

Great Farmers market!!! Would definitely suggest stopping. There were lots of fruit/veggie stands. We tried some good jam, drank coffee, but the winner was frozen pineapple ice cream!! It was so yummy! The tumeric shot was spicy but definitely worth trying! Just a fun place to hang out. Family friendly, and samples are always a plus!

Found this through Google search and decided to come with my 8 month old. Arrived around 0945 Saturday morning. Bring your own reusable bags and take your time, no rush and keep you pup on a leash.
PRO: Easy to find, parking is plentiful, great variety of vendors
CON: doesn't appear stroller friendly, especially if it's raining bc you are walking through grass/field. People were pushing strollers though just a bit of a struggle. i used a baby carrier. No shade, bring your own umbrella or hat if you decide to sit and eat after. Only place to sit is on the little stone wall around the perimeter of the soccer filed. Or bring your own mat / chairs.
LOCATION:
Across from KCC in a big open soccer field.
PARKING:
street or they have a designated lawn parking on the other side of the soccer field. keep driving around and follow "additional parking" signs.
SITE:
again vendors are spread out pretty nicely on both sides which make a loop around the field. lots of fruit stands, and a handful of local made vendors.
VENDORS: Variety is good of different things from fruits, veggies, honey, coconuts, taro, pizza, baked goods, flowers, etc. There were approximately 15-20 vendors there again mostly fruit and veggies stands.

McBryde & Allerton Gardens, National Tropical Botanical Garden
The McBryde Garden is a botanical garden with a large selection of native Hawaiian plants, diverse topography, and self-paced tours. The Allerton Garden is home to the giant Moreton Fig made famous in the film "Jurassic Park.
Wow, this was a terrific experience primarily because of our guide David Alexander. He kept the tour entertaining, offered a ton of cultural and plant trivia, and was overall an amazing spirit.
He's also a scientist, so has immense knowledge of botany and appreciates both the taxonomy and landscaping. Thanks to David, I'm seriously considering volunteering next time I'm in Hawaii. Thank you a million times David!
The tour lasts about 2.5 hours, covers the history of McBryde and Allerton families, founding of the science center, and about 75% of observation about plants.
The highlight is probably visiting the Banyan trees where they filmed the Jurassic Park scenes, as well as the "history" of plants from moss and ferns all the way to orchids and fruit trees.

Although I thought the ticket was pricey at first, it was entirely worth it! I learned so much and the forests are so beautiful and otherworldly. Highly recommend :)
Kāneiʻolouma Heiau is a significant cultural site in Poipu, Kauai, showcasing remnants of an ancient Hawaiian village. Spanning 13 acres, it features archaeological remains such as hale (houses), fishponds, taro fields, and irrigation systems. The walled temple complex once stood at 130 by 90 feet and was dedicated to several Hawaiian gods.
What a great restoration project to reveal a hidden gem of Kauai!!! This temple complex used to be covered by haolekoa and I never imagined three was such an important cultural heritage site here. I also had wondered what was the meaning of the sign “Manokalanipo” by the entrance of Poipu Beach Park for such a long time!!! After reading panels of explanations, I finally got it!! Manokalanipo was a name of the great king(ali’i ‘aimoku) of Kauai in the 15th century who organized excellent land management and politics system. He and together with his father, Kukonoa also won the battle and saved Kauai from invasions by the combined armies of Hawaii, Maui, Molokai, and Oahu in the early 15th century. “Manokalanipo” has been praised through many chants, poems, and songs.
One of features of this complex is an open stadium called Kahua. It is the only known surviving example of the Hawaiian stadium where various sports and events were held to honor gods and glorify the king. I highly recommend to visit here before or after visiting beautiful Poipu Beach Park!!!

The wood carvings are gone. Plenty of information about the history of this historic site. You can't go inside the grounds.

Unfortunately this is not here anymore. There is info boards on the history and the site still exists obviously. The wood art has been cut down though.
Talia Richmond — Google review
Kaneiolouma Heiau does not look like much at first sight (a bunch of stone walls) but with a closer look you can observe complicated structures and design under the rubble. The addition of Hawiian totums at the corner is a wonderful way to highlight this historic and religious landmark.

Historical site. You can feel the history there. I just came upon this site while walking down the road.
Erik Domingues — Google review
This is a very interesting historical site on Kauai, preserving a restoration of a Hawaiian village site. There are informational plaques on the corner of Poipu Rd and Hoowili detailing the restoration efforts and the significance of the areas of the site.
There is no parking right by the plaques, so I would recommend parking by the beach and taking the 5 minute walk over.
Adriann Dolphin — Google review
This is worth seeing if you're at Poipu beach, but it seems like the state of Hawaii, county, and trust which runs it could do a lot more to make it accessible and interesting. There is not even any place to park near the informational signs, and it seems little work has been done to restore it.

Located in the Lawai Valley on the McBryde sugarcane plantation, McBryde Garden is an off site conservation garden that showcases native Hawaiian plants. The garden is 252 acres and features alula, vulcan palmonly, canoe plants, and more. You can visit self-guided or guided tours to see all that the garden has to offer.
Beautiful garden, very pleasant visit. The shuttle to and from is a bit of a rough ride as the shuttles could use some new shocks and the roads are rough, but the shuttle drivers are knowledgeable and pleasant so it helps you ignore the rough ride, mostly, lol. Reservations are better but they do have some walk in slots for self guided tours mostly.

We took the "Best of Both" tour for $60/pp.
It involves a bus tour and a little walking. The guide, David Alexander, was very knowledgeable and very entertaining. We enjoyed it tremendously.
Jonas Sidrys — Google review
We showed up without a reservation (which is very normal for a botanical garden) only to find out that you have to take a bus to get there. They don't allow you to stay as long or short as you like and they only have two time slots (12pm & 2pm)! We would have had to wait two hours and pay $60 per person if we wanted to see the garden today! Insane!
The lady at the main desk gave us an attitude, said nothing positive about the garden, and was no help when we asked if there was anything else we could do. We wondered their "teaser garden" but only found spiders and mosquitos. Seriously, my sister and I only had one bite from being on Kauai a whole week and had 12 bites between the two of us after a 10min stroll through some grass and hibiscus.... very disappointing.

Lovely gardens. Have to meet at Allerton/National botanical gardens Visitor center and bus takes you to 80 acre gardens. Drop u for 2 hours/self guided walk, a few easy miles, some I'd markers, would have liked more, but still a beautiful place. 2 restrooms facilities with good drinking water/bottle refillable at each. David, our driver, did a great job giving us tips, pointing out plants, etc., and giving some history while we were on the bus. Maybe total 1/2 hr. For roud trip. No snacks or food available in the gardens, but could purchase snacks at Visitor center b4 or after. Tour was $30 pp, plus driver tip (optional).

A great self-led garden tour. You must have closed toed shoes to tour this garden. Insect repellent is recommended as well. Although I am handicapped, I believe I saw most of the garden. A bus takes you from the visitor center out to the garden. There you can follow the signs or your map. I did as much as I could as the day was quite hot for May. Fantasy Island was filmed here on the beach.

Absolutely stunning garden. This is a must see. You need to make a reservation ahead of time to visit the gardens. They have several guided and self guided tour options. Bring plenty of water as this place is large, i clocked 2 miles walking and only made it to half the garden.
Gillins Beach is a secluded, quiet beach located in the Makawao district of Kaua'i. It's known for its excellent snorkeling and is a favorite spot for nudists. To get to Gillins Beach, hikers can either walk from Shipwreck Beach or drive 1.
This is one of my favorite beaches on Kauai, secluded, not a lot of people visit it because it requires a drive along an unfinished dirt road full of pot holes. The way Google maps tells you to go is not accurate. You need to go past the Grand Hyatt Resort & Spa golf course and turn left at the fork in the road. To the right takes you to CMJ Country Stables. To the left & access to Gillin Beach & Makauwahi Caves, you will have to hike down a dirt/sand path. The rocks can get slippery when wet & watch for twigs in the sand path. I suggest close toed shoes until you reach the beach & then switch shoes.
Aubrey Behrends — Google review
Inaccessible as of this writing. Tried to reach via Poipu Rd past the Hyatt per instructions from a guide book and a metal gate was closed and guarded by someone in an unmarked vehicle. Then tried to reach via google maps directions past the sugar mill and again encountered a closed metal gate. This time the vehicle babysitting it pulled us over and the person identified himself as the land owner. He was very unhappy.
Jenn Wild — Google review
As long as you get there before 6pm and leave by 6pm, this beach should be accessible- the access crosses private land and it seems they close it at 6pm and will then tow you if you aren't out. However I just visited it, May 23rd, 2019 around 1pm and we had no problem getting to it. The review below is accurate though, you need to go the way she describes, and the road is extremely rocky and pot-holed for like 3/4 mile before you reach the parking area for the beach. You will be rewarded with a mostly empty beach :)
jmiller1776 — Google review
I attempted to go to this beach. However, on the way an extremely rude older man blocked our path by lying and saying it was a private road. There are no signs to indicate this and I later verified this iswas a public road. This was clearly an extremely rude local trying to prevent tourists from accessing the beach. This man stood in the center of the road and refused to answer any questions or communicate in any way.
Quite disappointing to come all this way and be blocked by a bitter and sad old man.

We love Gillin Beach. After our first trip there and to adjacent Mahauleipu Beach we swore we would return to rent the Gillin Beach House. We did and had a wonderful week at this out of the way paradise. We met a.team of archaeologists working at the old heist, swam at Mahauleipu Beach and enjoyed the privacy and ambiance of the beach house. Nice shopping area. We went for the Farmers Market on Wednesday. Which is outside the shops in the walkway area spread out. So we were able to see the farm vendors & shops at the same time.
We decided next time we'll go to a farm market sooner. The produce we saw was amazing & we sampled some sugarloaf pineapple & bought some fresh pineapple frozen pops. No sugar added, they were very tasty & refreshing.

Mostly mid-high-end and 'one off' women's clothing shops and higher-end restaurants. Busiest places were the ice cream shop and Bubbas burgers. Free valet parking though!

My shopping experience. Good choices of food and shops. Not a lot of parking but we never really had an issue going around 4:00 in the afternoon.

On Wednesdays from 3:30 - 6pm they have an outdoors Culinary Market. Multiple different booths are set up selling their food, drinks, etc. We loved it and had tons of fun, there was even live music. The sunset was very pretty also. All an all a great evening.

Great place, great shops get out of your car. Find a parking spot and walk, it's worth it.

For the most part, it is full of trendy clothing shops. Savage shrimp is great. The shave ice place around the corner is amazing. There is a longs too.

Impressive. Had a great dinner at Merriman's. Lappert's was great as always. Enjoyed the Living Foods store, neat & tidy operation. Wish I had more time to enjoy the fine selection of restaurants. Mahalo
