The Mariners' Museum and Park is an extensive, comprehensive museum dedicated to global maritime history. One of the main attractions is the on-site USS Monitor Center which displays parts of the Civil War-era Monitor, one of the world's first ironclad warships, along with numerous associated artifacts and a life-sized replica. The museum also showcases a wide range of seagoing vessels from throughout history and their sailors in its vast collection.
Very nice place! Great location, we love visiting here! Nice family location. Beautiful grounds, and nice to take your pets for a walk, or as a family to go walking. Big parking lot as well. We love their walking trails!

Wonderful museum! All of the exhibits are well thought out and informative. We came for the Monitor exhibit and were not disappointed. The America's Cup exhibit was fantastic as well. If you're a history buff or a Mariner, plan to spend a solid half day here. We'll be back!

Beautiful museum! Great for families! Admission was only $1 when we visited. There was something for everyone here.
Children's area, amazing artifacts, and emersive exhibits. Our favorite was the miniature ship models. The kids loved the scavenger hunt. Everyone working here was so friendly. The cafe was closed the day we went. However, there are great places to eat nearby.

Loved it!! I'm visiting from GA and didn't really know much about it. The Battle Theater movie is a MUST and it was very educative on what happened between the two ironclads. The rest of the exhibits made a lot more sense once I watched that.
The life size Monitor was fun to walk on, and the small part of the replica CSS Virginia that you can go inside was fun too.
The scavenger hunt for kids kept everyone super attentive and involved and because it's basically just a checklist, kids of most ages can participate.
We had a wonderful time!! I highly recommend it if you're in the area. Plus, it's only $1!!

This museum is a paradise for any naval or military historian, as well as for anyone that has sailed on the sea. The employees were all passionate and helpful, and there are plenty of things for kids to do, including a scavenger hunt. The museam is wonderfully curated and took about three hours to go through, and the cafe had fairly priced food and drinks.

Stunning natural beauty. Stopped by on a whim. Took a short walk on the Norton Trail. Came to the bridge and stopped there. Absolutely the most peaceful place. Then I looked down over the water and saw the 🐢 🐢 🐢 turtles. Wow...beautiful creatures. These aren't the loggerheads by the sea, these are Snapping turtles of various sizes. Amazing sight. Do not feed any wild life in any park. But especially here. These turtles can snap a finger in a minute. I watched them from the bridge. Safe distance...next time I'll go further. Loved it💜

We once think this is a museum of telling history, but after we visited, we agree this is the museum for education, better to visit with your children. The most exhibits are modern ship models, and they will show how this model was made. Maybe the story behind the model will insist many people to learn.

This is a great place to spend some time and is definitely worth a visit. Entry fee is only $1 but you can leave a donation if you enjoyed your visit. There are a full range of pieces from sailing boats to historical artifacts. There is a viewing area where you can see artifacts in various stages of restoration.
There are restored artifacts on display. There are knowledgeable staff walking around who are eager to answer any questions that you may have. There is an outside walking park but wasn't able to do it due to bad weather on the day of our visit. There is a gift shop and cafe on site.

Took my 5yr old son here on a relaxing Saturday. We had fun completing the scavenger hunt the front desk gave us. Museum only charged around $2 that day. No lines and not busy but a lot to see.

This was a beautiful museum to go to! It was surprisingly large, with lots of information on different vessels and maritime events.
This place included beautifully detailed hand-made models of ships, real vessels, shipwrecked parts of the USS Monitor, and a full sized replica of the USS Monitor.
There was also an extremely large park you could enter for free, with lots of wildlife.
This is a beautiful place to spend an afternoon at!!

This museum is great. Extremely well done. With a $1 entrance fee, I had low expectations but this museum impressed around every corner. It focuses on the "Merrimack and Monitor" ships primarily, but it never gets boring. Quality displays that provided plenty of interesting information in a variety of formats. There's also a park that looked great, but we didn't have time to visit. This museum is well worth the stop.

If you've never heard or seen this place you should definitely come and check it out. The ticket price per person is only $1.00. My son really enjoyed it and wants to go again sometime.

I cannot believe it is only a dollar to get in. The exhibits are phenomenal and the collection is comprehensive. I cannot wait to go back. The Monitor display is so cool. Make sure to watch the film in the gallery to understand why it is so important.

I was in town on a business trip and stopped here to kill some time before my flight home and was pleasantly surprised. Upon entering, I was greeted by the docents who were very knowledgeable and provided tips on how to best navigate the museum and exhibits.
The highlights of the museum are the artifacts from the USS Monitor. You definitely want to watch the movie on the Battle of Hampton Roads between the USS Monitor and CSS Virginia. There's also the International Small Craft Center located in a separate building and an informative exhibit on the America's Cup yacht. But my favorite exhibit was the Miniature Ship Models of August Crabtree.

Amazing! If you are in the VA Beach area, definitely go see the museum. $1 admission which means basically free!

Lots of information regarding the Monitor and Merrimack battle, plus other general mariner information. The replica and artifacts from the Monitor were the biggest draw and are not to be missed. The museum is only $1, so you can't be it for value, and the docents are excellent and knowledgeable.

We learned so much, and entry was only $1 each. It took us 2.5 hrs to get through the first half. However, we read everything and looked at everything thoroughly. We Want to go back next time we are in VA as they were setting up for a new exhibit.
Sum Sum — Google review
We spent nearly 3 hours in the museum, which cost us only $1 each. It was well laid out and very informative. It described the story of the ironclad ships, the Merrimac and the Monitor, and there were reconstructions of the Monitor's turret as well as the entire ship. It was really interesting to see the actual turret being treated/preserved in a giant tank in the museum. Our only disappointment was that the cafe was closed. We then walked the 5-mile Noland trail around the park. This is a well- marked path with 14 large wooden bridges.

Great museum for all ages. Also history is being restored in front of your eyes! Having the actual first Ironside that you can see and almost touch is amazing! I can't wait until it's all finished!
I was with my sister and her family and had fun playing large scale battleship and exploring with them. Highly recommend this to anyone in the area!
The Virginia Living Museum is a museum that features interactive exhibits, a planetarium, and a nature trail with various plants and animals. It offers hands-on experiences for both adults and children. Visitors can learn about different species such as seahorses, flying squirrels, and mini dinosaurs on display. The museum offers educational and entertaining opportunities for families with children aged 10 years or younger who live in VA.
Ok, how did I not know about this spot! If you have children 10 and under and you live in VA it's a must bring. It's spacious, fun, educational and they maximize indoors and outdoors....just take a look at the pics. We are totally coming back. The adults loved it too😜

This was a great place to take my boys, 5 and 7 years old. We spent 4 hours here and it was easy to do. The boys loved the Dinosaur Discovery Trail and the Vet and Keeper play area. Their Cafe wasn't open but we brought our lunch so it wasn't an issue for us. The staff here is very helpful and friendly which is starting to become a rarity these days.

We rolled in about 16 deep. Ended up needing a wheelchair for GPA which was happily given. (Free of charge) We were from age 3 to "well seasoned" haha. Everyone had a great time. Plenty to see and lots for the lils to do. We went during the Dino exhibit which was a hit! It was 90+ today so getting back into the ac was fantastic but the shade definitely helped outside. Did not have any problems getting the 2 wheelchairs anywhere we wanted to go! Outside animals are hot too, so the were all just trying to beat the heat. Not mad at them. Staff was very happy and upbeat.

Wow! Definitely a must visit if you have children or just want to see some wildlife! I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. We spent a good majority of our day here. Something for everyone. The trails outside were endless and I appreciated how they connected and ventured into other exhibits. Play areas. Lots of seating and friendly staff. Worth the price for sure

Our kids range in age from 10 to 14, and our adults spanned from 40s to 70s - we all had a great time at the Virginia Living History Museum. This place had just the right mix of hands-on attractions, fascinating Virginia animals and fish, an engaging outdoor walking experience, and lovely planetarium. We went to Williamsburg for colonial fun, but I am so glad we set aside a day to come here and learn so many new things about our state. Such a relaxing, pleasant, and educational experience!

Clean, fun, interactive, and informational. From seahorses to flying squirrels to their mini dino land both adults and kids will enjoy a trip here. It was a bit busy for a Wednesday but then again it's holiday break too. They also have a planetarium but we didn't do that this time.

A great experience for young kids, various fish, animals and outdoor scenery. . I enjoyed more than the kids. Nice outdoor areas for couples to sit, relax and walk the grounds. Little disappointed that the bird area was closed, didn't see any butterfly. The exhibit the fun and interactive amazing pollinators.
Best time to visit during the week and before noon..

We couldn't go outside on our visit, but I look forward to another visit for that purpose. My 1 year old grandson enjoyed the Shark Pajama Jam, the music, snacks, and activities. The staff was nice. I also enjoyed the guy who worked at the front desk and danced and smiled the whole time.

This was an interesting little zoo/museum. Focusing mostly on the Virginia and Chesapeake Bay, they also have facts about history of the area. They have some dinosaur exhibits and interesting outdoor walkways. I didn't get to do the planetarium and was a little bummed about that. They do have special events. Worth checking out if your in the area. They aren't really large and certainly geared towards younger kids around 4 to 7.

Wow! Part zoo, part museum, ALL fun! We had our 6-, 4 ½- and 3-year-old grandkiddos with us, and they all had a blast... and so did we!
Aviary was good - Children's Garden was fantastic - especially the hobbit house.
Beavers, wrestling otters & foxes were the faves.
One of the zookeepers let the kids help her feed the catfish, and they were thrilled!

Nice museum for the kids, lots of interactive play areas and things to touch and climb on. When we visited, there were animated dinosaurs on exhibit. Very interesting. The inside of the museum looks a little dated, like it hasn't had a fresh coat of paint in over a decade.
The highlight is the outside area. Nice boardwalk path over a marshy area and views of native Virginia animals (assuming they aren't sleeping in their homes during the daytime heat). The foxes were adorable.
Next time I'd plan to see a show at the planetarium.

Really fun place. I think i might like it better than the zoo. It's a bit more immersive. The walk back in the woods is really pretty. Lord of stuff for little kids.
Newport News Park is a vast expanse of more than 8,000 acres that offers a range of activities including disc golf and bike rentals, as well as boating facilities, horseback riding trails and stunning gardens. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful sunrises over the water from the bridge or encounter various species of wildlife on their outdoor adventure. It's an ideal spot for fitness enthusiasts with an active community around the trails who frequently take part in group workouts.
We went for the Christmas Lights. It was lots of fun for the kids and with Covid being in the car was best for that season.
They have lots of display and the ride is very enjoyable.
The only thing I wished they had done better was the music. I wished music was linked to the drive. I went to a Christmas Light in Richmond the year before and that made the experience even better.
But it is still a nice experience.

The hiking trails are great and vary in difficult. Very clean and well kept with very low amount of litter. Park Rangers were very friendly. Just recently moved here from Oklahoma and the quality of this park far exceeds most of the ones down there. Will definitely be returning frequently and utilizing the bike trails. The walking bridge across the water was a very nice perk as well.

Okay I have been a few times now, super cute park! I love all of the shorter trails, and there’s one 2.6mi trail, and one 5mi trail if you wanted a longer trail. The views are awesome, it’s not very difficult, occasional hills. But overall, a very nice place to come walk/jog/run/kayak/fish/and just be outside.

Location location location. And for a reasonable price. C loop is the most quiet with the other loops experiencing more highway noise. The campground could be a little better maintained but it is still a good place to stay while exploring the historic triangle.

This is a beautiful park that has retained a lot of historical elements. [*See the Discovery Center] The wildlife is mostly hidden, but ever present. Occasionally, you might catch a glimpse of some deer. The trails are wonderful and extensive. I haven't used any of the equipment rental services, but they definitely have them available to enhance your outdoor experience. It's a great place for hikers/walkers, outdoor enthusiasts, families, or dog owners.

One of the best parks to come visit in the Hampton Roads area. Well kept up, Park Rangers are visible. Many trials, large playgrounds for the kids can play. Many shelter’s for family gatherings for rent. Paddle boats and John boats are available for fishing. Really enjoyed my time here at this beautiful park. Located near Fort Eustis nice park. During Christmas they offer a light show for the family one of the best around. Did not disappoint. The trials are not handicap friendly but they have more than enough paved road to move around for wheelchairs, walkers, or anyone with mobility issues. Dog friendly, many restrooms around the park.

We stayed at the campground at the end of March 2023. The site we had was SO unlevel (116). There were alot of sites that were extremely unlevel. I would advise to drive through the campground before staying there or review recommendations from others. The other sites we liked were B42, B46, B50 and B51. The playground was nice and big which was my son's favorite thing to do. It was cold while we were there so we did not do any water activities other than fish. Definitely a park we would go back to. They have paddle boating, fishing, boating, archery, and biking/hiking trails.

The Army Transportation Museum Foundation showcases the development of U.S. military logistics from the Revolutionary War to present day, highlighting various modes of transportation such as horses, mules, trucks, tanks, trains, planes and ships. The museum offers both indoor and outdoor exhibits for visitors to explore and learn from. Although located on a military base requiring identification and vehicle search for entry, admission is free with donations encouraged as it is not funded by Uncle Sam.

This museum is huge! I went back to back days after missions but I’d recommend reserving a solid 1.5-2hours I still didn’t make it in time for the outdoor attractions. I had 30 minutes both times. The only complaint is the hours of operations, they close at 1630 and they’re closed on Sundays. Lots of great artifacts.

The Virginia War Museum showcases the history of American military from 1775 till present through a range of exhibits including uniforms and cannons. It is highly recommended for visitors who are willing to spend a considerable amount of time reading and exploring the interesting QR codes offered at the museum. The collection on display is extensive, impressive, and reasonably priced. Even teenagers interested in history can learn new information here.
I went here to check out this war museum after doing some stuff in Yorktown. I am very impressed with all the displays and equipment they have. Everything from the Revolunary war to the war on terror. Lots of world war two items from the axis powers. It appears very little on the civil war confederate side though. They have lots of heavy war equipment and a great many uniforms to include General Westmoreland's Vietnam shirt. The cost is 6.00 to 10.00. They are open wednesdat through the weekend.

Remarkable, a must see! Those involved in this museum's creation and care have done an excellent job. We could have easily spent all day there. Please be prepared to read and don't miss the interesting QR codes to look at later. I wasn't expecting such an extensive collection tucked away here for such a reasonable price. Even the history buff teenager of the family learned new information. Only suggestion would be to have a greater selection in the gift shop or a stand alone themed store for museum support. I hope this stays well funded and community supported or even further expanded. We plan on returning in the future. Thank you for the education and time and money well spent.

Interesting place, guide was a very pleasant and knowledgeable lady. However, as an aside: People in these reviews (Lee-Hall and Endview) tend to criticize locations like these because of the horrific institution of slavery and the fact that these places had enslaved people working on them. While philosophically I agree that slavery was horrific, these places are NOT preserved BECAUSE of that. So go complain to the historical commission. If the place is well-preserved, the presentation adequate, then say it. Otherwise, it's not all about YOU. In fact, this fascinating structure existed long after slavery was gone, and it's still worth preserving.

Fantastic place to walk your dog. Walking trails are pretty quiet during the weekdays. In this time of year is especially great. Tons of turtles in the water which the kids seem to get a kick out of. We are lucky to have such a park in the community.

Stopped by to collect my reward for completing the Toast the Coast Trail and got a bag of goodies. The ladies were friendly and there was a lot of stuff available to help someone decide what to do in the area

Great visitor center with plenty of brochures from the area and beyond. The friendly and helpful ladies were helpful and an asset to this community. A special thank you to the woman who joked around with me about the ticket to the holiday light display and gave me a bag for all my brochures, she has a great personality.
Historic Endview is a museum that features an enduring home and plantation from 1769, which showcases tours, exhibits, Civil War reenactments, and special events. The site was also used as the venue for the Colonial Virginia Council's (Scouting) 30th anniversary celebration. Additionally, it is a great location for camping and outdoor scouting activities. Visitors can learn about the history of the land through knowledgeable guides during their visit to this small but well-set-up house.
I will take a date day here over a crowded restaurant any day! My husband and I love to pick up our meals and then come here to admire the beautiful scenery.

I did not go on the tour but instead took the afternoon to simply walk the grounds and let the history “soak” into my feet. I believe a lot of people go to places and follow a guide around and read a lot of placards without actually getting to know the history of a place.
If you don’t do it anywhere else do it here! The cemetery was my favorite part. One of the most eerie and peaceful places I’ve ever been. You can feel the ghosts and bones going back almost 400 years. It was very enjoyable to sit out there in that grove and then to walk the bottomland around it getting a “feel” for what “they” saw and felt, the people that lived there and that have come before. I highly encourage anyone to take a day to walk around the grounds here to really enjoy the history of this place.

Excellent preservation of such an old place. Larger on the inside than expected. The Nature Trail behind the home is very cool. Enormous trees in the bottomland around the property. Some of the largest tree selected specimens I've EVER seen. Tulip Poplars over 100 feet tall and 30 feet in circumference. Blown away. The presentation was solid, and the young man executing the tour is incredibly well-informed. Great work!

I liked their hiking trails the best because they had gentle hills that you could walk on instead of all flat grounds.
My visits are quick but efficient. I always leave there feeling like my dog has the care he needs without someone ripping me off. The vets and staff are helpful and informative. They truly care about the pets and take great care of them. Their prices are also pocket friendly so you can keep up with pet visits without breaking your budget.

Loved my experience here. I adopted a cat that had been there for over a month and for some reason, no one wanted her. Her name is Sally and she’s an all black long hair domestic cat. When I adopted her, the SPCA gave me anti anxiety medication to give her, which I only gave to her once after getting her home as it seemed it made her drowsy. Since then, she has opened up and is the sweetest cat I’ve ever met. I’m thankful for the SPCA for taking care of her until I met her.

SPCA did an excellent job in spaying our Hachiko. The surgery was done on the 22nd and today is the 25th of Nov and she is already doing better. Able to wag her tail, all around the house and a happy dog again. Cone is still on tho.
Samantha is my contact from setting up the appointment ‘till surgery day and she is a wonderful and an asset to SPCA. Thank you Samantha for a very good mama dog service and to the Vet surgeon Dr. Houlton who did a great job on the surgery.

We went on May 18 to drop off some donations we had lost our Elvis on May 10. My husband was the first time there. So he wanted to see the dogs they have. So we went in and saw the dogs I was there the previous Tuesday to drop off the first part of the donations. Went through to see all the dogs. Honestly, people need to stop breeding pit with other breeds Pit Bull are just amazing when their pure breed..
So as I walking down the dogs the first 5 were the same and their was this new one and I reading his page I was like wow he gets along with other animals 😻 great. And he just gave Our Elvis's eyes.
So we ask for a visit he is a mix of Yorkie and mini schnauzer his name is Kendrick.
We got the visit and it was a wrap we adopted him right there.
Kendrick found his forever home!! He is a spoiled dog as our cat carrot.

I came here looking for a kitty to bring home and the staff here were so helpful. The person with the cool haircut and dark brown hair helped me adopt my cat Fish (formerly succulent) and they were so kind and made the process so easy and quick. They also gave me tons of goodies to bring home and a bit of food for her as well.
I’m so happy I was able to find my forever kitty here with the help of the staff 💜 she is so snuggly and so vocal! I love her dearly. Thanks you guys for all that you do!

Customer service has been poor since I first started bringing my shorkie here. He was neutered a year ago, and I asked that they clip his nails during the visit. I went to pick him up, and the front desk staff weren't very attentive. In fact, they acted as though I was interrupting them. I was handed paperwork and that was about it! They don't act like most animal lovers that you see at any other veterinary offices. I read the papers and asked if his nails were clipped prior to paying the remainder of my bill and was told he was too aggressive, so they couldn't clip them. I was confused, he's all of 10 pounds and also wondered why they just didn't do them while he was under anesthesia? Im sure he was scared after waking, which likley was the readon he may have acted out. They didn't have an answer, which made me wonder if they even tried at all! I went there today for a 12:15 appt and sat for 40 minutes before they took him in. He needed a rabies shot and blood draw to test for heartworm. They came out with him about 5 min later and told me they could only do the rabies vaccine because he was acting aggressive, super anxious and claimed 3 of them had to hold him down for the vaccine ! Again he's 10 pounds mainly all fur, he may have been anxious sitting in the car for so long and then being taken away from me however I'm sure if presented with a small treat he'd have been just fine. He's not vicious at all! Clearly they don't have patience and aren't willing to put forth a little effort if needed. Of course I was told it was up to the vet and that my dog would need to be sedated😳 mind you he's been there before and had the same things done without a problem! Not worth the time spent , the poor customer service or the aggravation just to save a few dollars. We won't be back.

The Newport News Victory Arch, constructed in 1919, is a grand stuccoed structure that serves as a location for war memorials and victory parades. It is surrounded by a beautifully manicured garden that offers an excellent view if you follow the path beyond it. The arch is dedicated to those who lost their lives during the great war, and visitors should take time to appreciate their sacrifices and hardships endured before their early loss.
At this arch you will find a "sacred" fire that burns almost indefinitely and representing it's wealth of historical importance. Entrance upon this stone foundation will surely separate the tourist from the general surrounding of Downtown Newport into a lavishly kept and large open ended park on the way to an outlook over the waters and with a clear view of the Naval carriers, some Maritime patrol on occasion and the company of families, friends and others traveling the walk for sightseeing, fitness or particularly in my case, meditation, a great meditation spot listening to the waters flows and the light hum as evidence of human engineering in the distance that creates an ambient sound and the area is very quiet on Sundays. Tourists may fish at the furthest left end of the park and will find law enforcement monitoring the area briefly for safety & security. A rather nice looking Huntington Ingalls corporate building is low key set aside from the park on the way in. On every 4th of July this park comes to life even more with concessions, a stage for music performances, huge fireworks displays, a local patriotic oldstyle band at the fiery monument, glow sticks and super packed full of people. This is a place to creates your memories with the people you love, your family and your friends. Enjoy it's simplicity, thank me later but most importantly, thank yourselves for embracing the simplicity and historical importance of the monument and Victory Landing Park. Stay for the sunset and take a moment to reset before your departure it's a beautiful sight.

We should appreciate all that they gave for us and the hardships they had to endure, prior to an early loss of ...

The Victory Arch is a memorial to those who served in the American armed forces during periods of war. Considering it was rebuilt in 1962, and originally built in 1919 I think it looks fantastic and grand enough to remind people who are locals or tourists to approach it and remember those who served our country.

Patrick Henry Mall is a retail establishment that offers an extensive range of athletic footwear, clothing, and accessories along with fan merchandise. The mall opens early for customers who want to walk around the building or for parents with children playing in mind. The shopping center also has other amenities like playdates for toddlers on hot days where they can socialize with other kids while their parents shop or eat at one of the many stores and restaurants available.

Great mall to shop and walk around in. They have a play area for little kids, a tilt for the older kids and a bunch of coin operated rides for the younger children. There is a really cool cotton candy vending machine too that is a must to try! The cotton candy is fresh and made in front of your eyes! It makes flowers, hearts, butterflies and regular shaped cones!!

Can't say too much. It's a small mall compared to others but have the far amount of stores to shop and eat.

Ok crazy how things have changed. As a teen everyone was always at the mall. That was the in thing. It was always packed. You're like a sardine swimming against the salmon flow. We popped in to get my son's eyeglasses fixed bc they were the optical shop open on the weekend. And a bit later on a Saturday afternoon, the mall was deserted. Those that were venturing into the mall were like us. They consulted the info board, found their location, made a route, and beelined their destination, and headed back out. They didn't hit all the shops in between. They didn't shop just to shop.
The parking lot was full. We had to park quite a ways out. So I can only imagine that everyone was eating or there had been a mass ailen abduction earlier... since I didn't see anyone except a few wandering aimlessly around. I think they were employees or survivors. Some elderly persons were just sitting in massage chairs. It was so surreal almost spooky. You could almost see the different stores music notes, like a siren's call, floating out into the main passage waiting for passing ears to lure would be shoppers into stores but only finding emptiness. Bright lights, and busy signs advertising promised sales and discounts for no one to see.
I give it 3 stars bc it was clean on the first glance but when you looked it really was not. Despite no parking though and my thinking it was going to me the nightmare fuel of my teenage years, it was the complete opposite that was a plus. It was worth going just to get a reality check on the changing of times how everything has moved more to online markets and smaller shops. If you're worried about it being crowded it wasn't, maybe during winter holidays but I'm thinking those crowded mall times of yesteryear have gone by the way side. We did find a bathroom back by the optical shop but it's was not vented well and dirty. So the 6 shoppers that were in the mall all had the urge at the same time and descended on this one bathroom, so if course there was a line for the couple of stalls... It's how it goes. That a difficult. The set up makes it hard to get in and out of that bathroom. So at the end of the day even though the mall isn't crowded and we were able to get in and out in under 10 min. I'm not really a mall person. Although the cerebral experience for me, i applaud them. During the week, they have community groups come through to help encourage and enable persons with all levels of abilities to interact with your "typical"community members. This training helps prepare them for a job when they are capable. I applaud anyone helping anyone!

You don't see a lot of malls anymore. This was like stepping into the 90's for a nostalgic line-up of stores and honestly a pretty good food court. There was a Chick-fil-A, a Dairy Queen, an Auntie Anne's Pretzels, an Asian cuisine place that looked pretty good and a few other restaurants. A good number of tables and chairs and it was surprisingly busy for a Friday afternoon.
Patrick Hiltz — Google review
It was nice to see a mall that wasn't full of empty storefronts and half dead. This place has tons of brands and something for everyone. There is also a large food court area to get a bite to eat while you shop. The parking lot seemed well-maintained and clean.

I’ve been going here for decades. When they redid the inside it was great! I love all the stores and so glad they have a little play area and brought back tilt. But the mall is filthy! The floors are horrible, grime has built up everywhere on the floors, walls, bathroom. The replace filter light on the waterbottle refill station has been on for months. The family bathroom is constantly closed for maintenance. I wish whoever is in charge of making sure it’s kept clean would wake up and take care of this place. It’s getting to the “don’t touch anything” point.

Love to see the mall still thriving but CUSTOMER SERVICE IS AT AN ALL TIME LOW!!!
Went to Nexus, Box Lunch, All Star Sports, Shoe Dept and Bath and Body works and Noone even spoke. they were on their phones, talking to friends or just flat out saw us in the store and looked away. A simple greeting goes a long way. some stores you shop in greet every customer and if you're there long enough you'll hear or a dozen times. in BBW the employee Patricia acted annoyed when I purposely said excuse me to her leaning on the counter to smell a candle just to see if she would speak up... she didn't.
but on a positive note when we stopped in Zumiez which isn't event a store id usually go into the employees were all so nice and helpful especially Landon. (and that was the first store we went into) He was so kind to my 8yo son (who made sure to walk past the store and say goodbye when we were leaving) He apologized for a box in the store that I wouldn't have even paid attention to had he not said something and was just overall kind even though we were just browsing. I was really trying to find something in my budget for that day just to buy because of the their positive attitudes and I really wanted things in other stores more that I didn't buy because the employees appeared more interested in doing anything but their job.
Hopefully employers take notice in the employees they hire and realize that they could make a difference in their business

Most of the spaces are occupied, which is a rarety nowadays. Has all the typical stores you'd expect in a mall with a few specialty shops. They have a great jewelry and watch repair place next to the food court, a couple good shoes stores if you're into retro nikes and Jordan's, they've got a decent gameroom if you have kids or you like to play games yourself. Mall is safe, parking is dense on the food court side, park outside a large store to access the mall easier. It's a nice mall and one of the few around that is still active.

You don’t see many malls these days. This one is decent. It’s well kept and provides a pleasant walking experience during the week. A lot of the stores have varying hours where they open later or close earlier than the mall itself.

Didn't take any pictures of the inside but I took some of some things I was proud to find. P.S there's an outside mart exactly next to it owned by 2 ladies, the way it's set up and looks from the road view would give off the impression that it's one store but its not. The outside market is MUCH bigger than it appears! Large selection of plants and they even have some old fashioned wagons you can put the little ones in to go for a little scroll (well the wagons is for placing your plants in but a customer used it for the purpose mentioned above and the ladies had absolutely no problem)

A remarkable journey back into the lives of our black ancestors and their honorable contributions to the betterment of a people . You won't regret the serenity and peace embedded here.

Must see! Well preserved historical home in Newport News. Interesting history and special exhibits housed in this home owned by a black lawyer in the late 1800's/early 1900's.

For recent or long term residents of the Hampton Roads area, this lovingly restored home is an essential visit to know & understand the social & political history of this region.
Mr & Mrs Newsome shared their oasis with the African American communities of the area - providing shelter, meeting spaces, political discourse & legal recourse.

Very warm, inviting conversation about community growth and achievement took place during this tour. Mr. Pope was very congenial, knowledgeable. HU told HU who was boss, elders schooled youth, youth inspired seniors. A solid reminder of who we are, what we can accomplish together.
Chilled Ponds At Yorktown is a fantastic destination for ice skating and enjoyment. It never gets too crowded, allowing visitors to fully indulge in the ice experience. The facility also provides skating and hockey lessons, with dedicated staff, skilled coaches, and helpful assistants. It comes highly recommended, especially during hot summer days when escaping the heat is essential. This community-centered rink offers effective programs like the Summer ISI training in August that effectively enhance skaters' skills.
It is an excellent place to go ice skating and have some fun. I have never been here when it was too packed to be on the ice and enjoy yourself. They even offer skating lessons as well as hockey lessons. I definitely recommend coming here especially in the summertime when it is hot outside.

The facility was fine- clean, nice set up (concessions weren’t working yet so no comment there)
Workers were pleasant and helpful
A few things I notice that would help-
if someone hasn’t skated before, maybe five a quick “orientation” with skater etiquette and safety.
It was BUSY so I expected it to be crazy and crowded. That’s fine. But there were SO many inexperienced skaters (I am as well, but I tried to be safe to myself and everyone around me)
There were so many kids basically just catching speed and “seeing that happened” who couldn’t skate. It was INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS. My husband had to literally pick my 6 year old up because she had two inexperienced skaters flying at her.
No texting or phone calls WHILE ACTIVELY SKATING. I thought that was a given but apparently not.
The edge isn’t a hang out spot. Keep skating please!!!
When the rink is crowded it’s NOT the time to stop and take a family photo.
There were teens literally falling on their stomach (like penguins) to see how far they could slide. 🫣
I Realize the patrons aren’t the facilities fault, but also didn’t feel 100% safe today
Also, I 100% understand it’s for all levels. By no means do I think you should have to be an expert or event providence skater. But you should be as safe as you can be. I’m pretty much that bottom level, so this isn’t shaming inexperience skaters. But know your limits. If you can not skate AT ALL, please hug the wall.
Please note, the staff addressed as they could. It was just ALOT. This is NOT a reflection on the staff in any way.

Amazing staff, competitive and professional coaches, and wonderful assistant coaches (and helpers), plus great lessons offered here. Summer ISI training (in August) programs are also particularly effective in improving skaters’ skills—highly recommended! This is such a nice community :)

This place has changed in all the worst ways since they bought Ice Plex.
1. Rude employee doesn’t like teens being excited and making happy sounds. Not screaming, but they act like it’s a library and a “place of peace”.
2. Decor is lame. No arcade, no concessions other than vending.
3. Prices do not reflect what you are NOT getting out of a trip here.
4. The place feels hostile now, not the fun activity my daughters used to enjoy.
So SAD! Hope they get a clue and make it better. Cutting costs is going to make them lose business.

Tell me the name of the fat/chubby kid with blue eyes if I'm not wrong, hes short and his hair was kinda curly. And he had a group of kids wit him, his "gang" tell me that kids name and ill rate it 5 stars. The 10-15 kids who jumped 2 kids at ice plex. BTW this place is full wit gangs. Just warning you

I like the staff, I would go all the time when it was HR Ice Plex.
Now that it’s chilled ponds the website shows you’re forced to pay double for the weekday public session for rental skates whether you want them or not. Disgusting move. I could see hiking it up to $10 and I could have lived with that… but up to $15 from $8 is insanity. What was the purpose of buying a $200 pair of skates if I now suddenly have to pay for the rentals? In what world does that make sense? Will never skate here again - I guess I’m sticking with inline.

At this time you have to enter through the back entrance where the outside snow pile is and cannot go through the front due to remodeling. The prices have increased by $15 per person regardless if you have skates or not. The new paint job and insulation make the skating rink much more inviting and holds the cold better. This rink is going to be awesome when it is finished. Can't wait to start Adult hockey in the fall. Even if you can barely skate be a part of the ice hockey community on the peninsula will meet some truly amazing people.

It has been a year or two since we have been there. The girls at the front desk looked like they hated their job. FYI your customers should not know that. Your website states 12-3:15, but at 2 it closed for hockey. We entered at 12:30. Nothing was said. Paid $15 for 1.5 hrs. Bathrooms were disgusting. My daughters wanted to leave and go somewhere else to use the bathroom. When asked about skating being til 315 (at 2 when they closed) she says no it’s til 2. I said even though your website says til 315? She says yes with a smirk smile. Like she was glad it was over. No one said anything when we first got there. As expensive as every activity you do nowadays is, it would have been nice for someone to let you know the website doesn’t match their hours. I would have even settled with “I’m so sorry the website is incorrect, we will get that fixed.” But nothing. We left and the girls at the desk we off in their own world. Would not recommend. Would not go back.

Went ice skating for the first time in 25 years and this was a nice place for it. Nothing fancy but it's a nice facility with friendly, helpful staff. They've got a decent pro ship for gear, rental skates and instructors and a nice laid back atmosphere.

Fun for the family and a very nice hang out space. Get moving and learn how to glide on the ice, if you don't know how.

It's a decent sheet. Tight locker rooms n small spectator area as well. No score sheet for the team either so anyone can play on any team. No structure for the league. Levan I'd the head ref and he is the worse ref ever n got banned from reffing at iceland and Chesapeake chilled ponds. No organization at all. Rules don't matter n change per rink. Dumbest league is at Yorktown no doubt.

Great rink. Been coming several times a week to work on my getting my skating up to a skill level high enough to learn to play hockey. It's been great, good staff and pretty good ice. I have noticed it gets extremely busy on Fridays and Saturdays, to the point were you cannot train much because there's so many people on the ice. They also don't seem to reverse the direction of skate very often at all unless you specifically go to the front desk and ask them to which I find odd as that just makes everyone a weak skater on one side.
Other than that, a great place to skate and I've learned a lot just watching others skate, making friends with the on ice staff and getting tips, and watching others be instructed. Looking forward to spending time here in the future and get out to some stick and puck!
Early 80s there was all kinds of weird things us kids would find i kept alot of it to this day....wonder if its reallllllly old

First of all the address is wrong here, you'll find the redoubt by 256-284 Enterprise Dr, Newport News, VA 23603. A short walk out to the old fort. There's lots of info on signs but also a lot of trash too.
Victory Landing Park is a riverfront leisure destination that features scenic walking and cycling routes. Visitors can enjoy stunning vistas of naval carriers and submarines while taking in the fresh air along the waterfront. This recreational site offers an ideal location for outdoor activities, picnics, relaxation, and sightseeing. With its picturesque surroundings, Victory Landing Park is an excellent choice for anyone seeking to experience nature's beauty and immerse themselves in Virginia's coastal heritage.
Came here for the 4th of July celebration, and it was probably the best I've been to!! All the food vendors, face painting, and people in costumes were awesome additions!

A small park nested behind the city, you'll have to walk a block to get there. At the park, you can visit the arch, or go to the park and walk around. The park itself is small and behind a Newport News Shipbuilding building, but still beautiful nonetheless. Here, you are right along the ocean. You can see some warships on both sides of the park

I went on a Saturday afternoon. It was VERY quiet. Probably a hidden gem in Newport News. Nice place to go to clear ya mind. The view of the James River Bridge and Ships is spectacular.
Fabulous library 📚! Very impressive research library with an equally impressive staff. The fountain in the courtyard was amazing and on this day Free Hugs were available!!!

Beautiful library with lots of study nooks and quiet places to study! I appreciate them for being literally the only place that is open to the public every day. I only wish they'd have longer hours on Saturday!

The facilities are gorgeous, the resources and staff are excellent, and I'm thankful that it's local to me. Whether you're a student or not, this library is a significant asset to the Newport News community. Newport News has some fine libraries, but nothing that can compare to this one.

This is a fantastic library. They have plenty of great resources. Only of my favorite things about this library is that there are areas where you can study with others and also there are "quiet study" rooms that are absolutely silent.
Another great feature is the Einstein Cafe that serves Starbucks beverages and food items. That way you don't have to leave to get caffeinated or grab a quick bit during those long study sessions.
The wifi is fast when it works right. However occasionally I have trouble linking my devices up to the service.
Overall a great experience though.

I mainly come in here to use the study rooms cause most of my readings I get off the website, but it is well maintained, quiet, and ample space for you to get a group together to study.
