Ontario Orchards is a diverse marketplace that offers an assortment of fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, specialty meats, cheeses and doughnuts. Additionally, customers can find gardening supplies such as bushes and trees. Although some items may be costly, the store provides a pleasant shopping experience with friendly staff. The nursery boasts a broad range of plants in excellent condition and well-maintained for purchase. Ontario Orchards bakery is also highly recommended for their delicious pies and heavenly baked goods.
The store and the staff are great.
Their nursery has a very good selection of plants, shrubs and trees. Very good condition and well cared for. I drive 60 miles to buy from a nursery I can trust. It's worth the drive.

They were open new years day surprisingly so. So I drove 2 hours to purchase a special kind of jam they had. All I can think of it is a 7-Eleven of farmers markets; not in a derogatory way. It was small enough it had a vast variety of items. Will be back of course

Great place for fresh produce and more.
The nursery is spectacular.

This place is a gem! We had the fortune of staying a beautiful, serene night in their apple orchard via harvest hosts. As pleasant as our overnight was the market experience transcended. Every worker with with whom we spoke was friendly and knowledgeable. Their fruit and vegetables were out of this world. The peaches in particular. We purchased an elk sausage with pear, potato, and port wine that was incredible. Heck, the morning coffee and apple cider donut was as good as we've had. Ontario Orchards will be a fixture in our Upstate NY travels.

A must stop farm stand and pick your own orchard! Take the hilly drive through the fall foliage to check out this hidden gem! Jam packed with all fall produce and fresh baked goods with the fresh scent of the pies, donuts, cakes, and giant cinnamon buns and much more, wafting throughout this amazing farm stand as you shop! Many decorative items for fall and Christmas season as well! Fudge, nuts, and all the seasonal treasures you can imagine! I left with a box full of goodies. Help was just a little short even early on a weekday but I can imagine it’s been a super busy season. I was going to go back for a bunch of pumpkins but it seemed they were overwhelmed. I definitely will make the drive again!

Great selection of local and local-ish products. Produce is high quality and reasonable priced. The pictures speak for themselves. Definitely worth the trip everytime we are in town

We visit every year when we drive up for the Sterling Renaissance Faire, and it's honestly almost as much of a highlight of the trip as the Faire itself. Such wonderful selection, both in variety and price, that we barely even pack food for our overnight camp-out; most of what we eat during our annual weekend we pick-up at the orchard and take with us (and always bring plenty home afterwards, too!). Wonderful produce, and delicious pastries. The first time we stumbled in almost by accident, but we've returned every year since and intend to keep coming as long as the Faire exists to bring us to the area. Cannot recommend them highly enough!

The best farm store I have ever been in. Twenty plus years I've been going there. Great coffee, great muffins, great snacks. Fresh local produce, garden supplies, a full nursery, and ornamental plants. Smiling staff who remember you from year to year.

The peaches from this place were the best I have ever eaten. We loaded the car up with peaches, apples, baked goods and apple cider. We ended up coming back the next day to get a few more boxes of everything. We used those peaches like currency, giving a few to the boat charter and the hotel receptionist and everyone we bumped into. Still had enough to share with family when we reached home. Definitely a highlight of the whole trip, and will be sure to visit anytime are within 50 miles.

We fell in love with Ontario Orchards as college students, and have made regular visits for more than a decade after graduating. The staff and products are fantastic.
Fort Ontario State Historic Site is a 19th-century fortress with an intriguing star-shaped design. It houses military structures and walls, all of which offer breathtaking views of Lake Ontario. The site is well-preserved, and the exhibitions showcasing period relics narrate the area's rich history. Besides, historians dressed in traditional apparel offer insights about the soldiers' lives stationed here over many years. A nominal admission fee applies to visitors, but it's worth every penny given the experience on offer.
Love local history! I work nearby and always wanted to check this place out - so happy we finally did!
Admission prices are reasonable. Staff are dressed in period attire and very informative. Buildings are staged, have informational videos and the outside is a beautiful walk, below and above.

The reenactment staff was extremely knowledgeable. I love history this was very informative. I had no clue almost 1000 people were brought here in 1945 from Italy that were fleeing German occupied countries. I definitely recommend. If I could I would give it 1000 stars.

If you like history this is a wonderful place to visit. I've been there several times, they dress in period clothes, host reenactments, share the early American historical facts as our country was shaping. There is a small cemetery off to one corner, ask about anything - the staff is very helpful in answering. Great place to bring the kids - especially so they can learn a bit about our country.

Very well maintained fort. The staff was dressed in period clothing and helpful.
Very interesting history and a fun self guided tour. Great for the entire family and have a picnic in the park.

If you're a history buff, this is a neat place to spend a couple hours wandering around. The staff/ volunteers were dressed in Civil War period clothing and were knowledgeable and helpful in answering questions about the fort. There was a musket demonstration, and visitors have access to most of the buildings and areas. If there is a gift shop, it was not open the day we were there visiting. There is a historical cemetery behind the fort dating back to 1776/1783. Was sombering to see gravestones of soldiers who lost their lives for their country.
Overall it was interesting to see the long and varied history of this fort.
Mari Gold Flowers — Google review
Amazing historical site. The volunteers and staff are all history junkies and will be able to answer almost any questions regarding the facilities. I had a wonderful experience climbing the ramparts and exploring the underground structures. Some of the buildings are currently undergoing renovations, but the Fort is worth visiting for the conversations alone. Highly recommended for history junkies.

A very interesting place to visit if history is your thing. The fort and grounds are very well kept and the displays of period artifacts tell the story of the many layers of history which occurred here. The historians dressed in period clothing were very knowledgeable and provided insight into the lives of the troops stationed here over the years. Lake Ontario provides a stunning backdrop to the area as well. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. There is a minimal charge for visitors but the experience is well worth it.

The gentlemen inside the fort are so passionate about the history of this fort which is wonderful! Easily spend an hour exploring the fort and then another half hr exploring the grounds around.

This is a great experience for the history buff. One could easily spend a couple of hours wandering around the old fort. There are some pretty great views from the tops of the ramparts around the fort of Lake Ontario. Even my 14 year old son had fun checking out all the displays in each of the buildings. We arrived late in the day, not long before close but were told if we came earlier there would be more re-enactments throughout the day and the staff we spoke to was very knowledgeable about the fort and it’s history.

Nice Fort they are trying their best to Preserve. I loved the iPads which gave you access to extra information on artifacts. I'm sure during bigger events there are more people there to provide information. When we went there was just one person in the gift shop and one person taking admission fees. We were lucky that a couple of the part-time summer hired groundskeepers were knowledged and answered questions and provided information to make the self tour more interesting.
Christine Kazlauskas — Google review
Fun little taste of history that can be covered in an hour or two with your kids. Longer if you can get them to stop and read the descriptions! My kids especially love the tunnels under the fort. $4 per adult, kids under 12 are free.

The history of this area is amazing and beautiful. The fort has gone through many stages over hundreds of years, including providing refuge to almost 1,000 jewish people escaping during WWII. Highly recommend
Safe Haven is a museum that commemorates an often overlooked aspect of American history. The establishment pays homage to a group of people who were brought to the United States and settled in the area. The facility showcases various exhibits, and visitors can learn more about this little-known history through knowledgeable personnel. Additionally, several motorcycle clubs have contributed to this project, which adds an unexpected element of interest for guests.
This museum is dedicated to an important, yet virtually unknown, slice of American history.
Elaine Murray — Google review
Small museum that does an excellent job commemorating the roughly 1000 refugees brought to America from Europe during World War II. The staff is very passionate and the introductory video gives a good overview of that unique moment in American history. Recommend visit if you are in the area and interested in people desperate to escape the horrors of history.

A wonderful place that we sought to visit. I came with family who are descendants of a couple that were brought to this country and here. We had read the book "Haven", which details the little known story.
The employee on duty was a young woman who was outstanding in her knowledge and sensitivity. We all learned more and really enjoyed the displays.
I loved seeing the Motorcycle groups that had contributed to this project. What a nice surprise.

This museum describes the little known events of bringing about 1000 people who fled WWII concentration camps to come to the US on President Roosevelt's order. Charitable events to help and closed-minded actions both happened. It's history that most people have not heard.

My experience with my daughter and 3 of my grandchildren was not very good. The volunteer was not at all helpful. He didn't even ask us to sign in or offer us a pen. Just took our money and went back to the office. We were on our own from there. He did not turn on any of the t.v. screens or music and I had to finally go ask him to turn on the video in the little theatre section. I feel this is unacceptable when you pay to get the entire experience. There should also be a few benches to sit on since it all walking and reading. So sad there are no artifacts from the refugees. Most of everything there you could Google on your own. 😞

No One There! This museum advertised being open seven days a week from Memorial Day through Labor Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.. It's stated on their website and on the property. So we deliberately delayed our return trip to WDC in anticipation it would be open. Well, we showed up at 11:05 a.m. on June 8 (Sa) and the place was locked up and completely shuttered. We tried the doors including a side door with a buzzer. Nothing. Complete silence. So, make sure you call in advance to ensure someone will be there. It has the vibe that it may be closed for good.
SUNY Oswego is a beautiful campus that continually upgrades its facilities for students. The administrative team actively works to improve student life, offering numerous activities outside the classroom. While winters can be challenging due to the lake winds, classes aren't in session during the harshest part of winter. The town may be small, but it has made impressive strides with recent funding from the state, resulting in stunning improvements to downtown and port areas and plans for a new marina.
My daughter attends school here and has had a great experience. The campus is beautiful and the school is constantly improving the facilities. The administration is very proactive and for a small college I’m impressed with how much they do for the students. Campus life is welcoming and they offer many things to do outside of the classroom. Winter can be tough with winds off the lake but school is not in session during the worst part of winter. Fall and spring are nice and summer is beautiful. The town is small but they had recently been awarded a huge amount of money by the state and the results are stunning, they have really done a great job improving the downtown and port area and are currently working on a new marina.

Worst parking I’ve ever seen at a college. Tons of employee parking, barley any student lots and also are very far from any class, and commuter parking even further away from classes. Absolutely zero parking at the village. And if you live on the West side of campus goodluck because you can only park in the “west side lots”. Even though you pay $70 for a parking pass they do now allow you to park in East or central resident parking lots if you live on the west side. Needs to be fixed asap especially with all the snow storms. They still expect you to walk 20 mins to class and 20 mins back to your car, and if you don’t you will get a ticket everytime.

State University of New York at Oswego is a University in the City of Oswego, NY. SUNY Oswego has two campuses, one in Oswego which is called the historic lakeside campus and the Metro Center located in Syracuse, NY. The University as of 2023 was once called State University of New York College at Oswego but that's a lot to say and as times change, name's change, but their mission and values have always stayed the same. The campus is HUGE and currently sits on 696 acres of land located on the shore of Lake Ontario and has 46 buildings ranging from classrooms, to entertainment, a sports complex and even a Ballroom for dancing. SUNY Oswego consists of four colleges and schools: College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, School of Business, School of Education and the School of Communications, Media and the Arts.

I went to visit Oswego last year and this year, it was wonderful! Everyone was so nice, welcoming and helpful. It's right on lake Ontario, beautiful to just sit down and read or to do work. Second time was in 2015 for his admission of graduate classes.
So the campus is in my mind most of the time and love it.
Breitbeck Park is a serene lakefront community park that boasts a remarkable bell tower, an expansive playground, vast open green space and relaxing picnic areas. The park provides an excellent opportunity to take calming walks while enjoying breathtaking sunsets along the beautiful walking paths. It has undergone considerable upgrades with the installation of an outdoor gym and splash pad. Additionally, there are covered picnic shelters where visitors can learn about the rich local history while basking in its incredible views.

It's such a nice, well-kept park. There's plenty of room for picnics with beautiful views of the lake, for exercising, or if you just want a peaceful walk. I like to sit and watch the sunsets. (It's usually beautiful, but these pictures were taken during the Canadian wild fires.) You can reserve pavilions for large events or small areas with fire pits on the lake.

The H. Lee White Maritime Museum is located in an antique warehouse on a pier and showcases historic boats and sea-related artifacts. Despite its unassuming exterior, the museum offers an exceptional experience for families with children at reasonable prices. The real highlight of the tour is exploring the ships outside with a knowledgeable guide like Tim, who can answer any question about everything nautical.

We took the lighthouse tour on Friday 23 June 2023. It was well run and very much on time. The docents knew their stuff and the lighthouse itself, although in a state of repair is very neat to see.
The museum was included in the price of the lighthouse tour, and it was very good. You can see the original Fresnel lens, and there are all kinds of other good information.
The only thing I could see doing a little differently is, Putting the displays behind glass in many cases as people could loot them.
The docent at the museum, who took us to the barge and the Tugboat was also very good and knowledgeable.
This was a well spent 2 1/2 hours for us and well worth the trip.
Bill Hawthorn — Google review
Pulled into the parking lot and saw The Dredge and the tugboat and there was parking there so we stopped walked up inside and saw that you could do a self tour through an app or just self-guided. Then we went over to the tugboat read the information boards there and saw that you could not go on it to view it until summer of next year-June 2024. Then we walked down to the actual Maritime Museum where there was more parking and where we probably should have stopped at first. There was no signage to direct you to the museum first. So after looking at the dredge and the tugboat we now had to pay $10 to go through a small museum that while somewhat informative I feel is a little overpriced especially since there was nobody there that seemed very knowledgeable or willing to provide some extra informationto make the museum more interesting. Gift shop had some decent stuff. It would have definitely been worth the $10 if the price of admission included actually touring on the tugboat. Unfortunately unless you also purchase a separate ticket you have no access to get close enough or even take decent pictures unless you have a professional camera of the lighthouse. Unless you are a true maritime buff this one is a hit or miss.

A very unique hidden treasure with Oswego. I’ve been here multiple times throughout my life and I’ll while it looks small on the outside but can take awhile to tour; especially for someone that is new to maritime history.
The tugboat docked outside has an interesting story; being the last U.S. Army vessel that served during D-Day and is still operational today.
Highly recommend that you visit this small yet unique maritime museum. It’s not everyday that you see a ship that was present at D-Day (and also shot down an enemy plane).

Had the opportunity to work there as an arborist. Beautiful building and location!

We love Lorenzo and the Seward house. But the Grandness of the first floor of the Bates house blows them away. Didn't want to leave.

Amazing collection of arts and culture in Oswego among the lovely homes. Narration of the responsible lady is so informative. When we heard that descendents of the rich family donated the house to NY Historic Association, I couldn't appreciate the generosity of them and it's their right choice to maintain it accordingly.

Excellent little find - the passion of the volunteers is matched only by how knowledgeable they are about the period and the family that lived here.
The house is in excellent condition and the stories are great. The change in styles and aesthetics over time was also worth observing.
Definitely recommend visiting if you are in the area .

The Children's Museum of Oswego (CMOO) is an excellent indoor activity center that provides a variety of entertainment options for children and adults alike. The facility boasts a friendly staff and numerous activities that can keep visitors occupied for hours on end. Inside the museum, there is a water table with different types of rainfall and toys, as well as soft play areas designed for younger children. The imagination play area offers interactive learning experiences related to farming, dentistry, firefighting, and other professions.
We have a CMOO membership because it is truly one of the best places around for 0-8 year olds. Hours of play, and no toy clean up for moms. It's so great for getting energy out during cold NY winters, too.

One of the loveliest places in Oswego for kids to play together. It’s safe with a super polite staff 🌹

Thoroughly enjoyed my visit with my daughter and granddaughter. The favorite part seemed to be the water table which we saved for the end.

Fun place to play for kids with a variety of interactive exhibits for playing and learning a little too. Staff are extremely friendly, patient, and great with kids. Two floor of play and space is used very well to get a variety of role play, building, and crafting (just to name a few).
A day pass is A DAY pass. You can come back after leaving any time that same day, which is really what makes it worth the money.

Very cool place! My 10, 7 and 2 year old had a great day here. Spent 2 hours here and could of stayed longer. We will definitely return. Worth the hour trip to get there!

Amazing facility, staff is friendly and the variety of activities keeps everyone entertained for hours. It’s hard finding indoor things to do with children around here but CMOO is definitely worth the money (and drive!) downstairs’ there is a water table that has different types of rain fall and toys, then when you go upstairs they have soft play for the tiny kiddos that aren’t big enough for the imagination play.
The imagination play is something I’ve never seen before, they have hands on learning with a farmers market, dentist office, fire station and many more. I would say this place is appropriate and enjoyable for all ages!

Drove here with my toddler today from another town, well worth the drive! Two floors of activities kept her occupied for hours. Very educational and hands on. Her favorite was the water activity table!

This was a very welcome experience in the midst of a time where we are very limited on what we can do with our children. CMOO staff followed us throughout the museum sanitizing and replacing things that had been touched, so you felt good about the kids playing. The kids were ecstatic about all the hands on things for them. Thanks CMOO, you're highly recommend and we'll be back.

This museum was renovated and only recently reopened. They did a wonderful job. There was a nice variety of exhibits. The water on the first floor was most impressive. The place was clean and staff was friendly. The location was easy to get to from the highway. There was sufficient parking. And it was nearby multiple places to eat. My 4 and 3 year olds had a great time. It took just about 2 hours from start to finish. They played with every exhibit. Overall, highly recommend.

Great little place! Noticed some of the stations werent interactive anymore cause of whatever reason, which was unfortunate, but theres still alot of fun stuff to do for a young kid!! We had a blast and would recommend it if your looking for something fun and cheap to do with the kids for a few hours or the day!

This is a great play spot for kids! Lots of imaginative, interactive displays are here. Older kids will learn a lot.
It's not cheap. I had to pay $10 just to watch my grandchildren play and they have an annual family pass.
