Raizansennyoji Taihioin is a peaceful place of worship with extensive gardens and numerous stone statues. The temple is renowned for its brilliant autumn foliage and beautiful art inside the main building. Visitors can enter the temple for 400 yen or choose to admire only the gardens for 100 yen. It's recommended to take public transportation or carpool as parking can be challenging.

I went to see a 400-year-old maple tree, which is designated as a natural monument of Fukuoka Prefecture for its amazing spread of 400-year-old maple branches.
The Niomon gate was also built to be splendid. The autumn scenery of maple trees looks good, and around November 10th is the best time to see the autumn leaves.
The height of the wooden Eleven-Faced Senju Sengan Kannon
It seems that there is 463.6 cm. You can get close to Kannon's feet 50 cm
If you look up from there, you can see the eleven-faced, thousand-armed, and thousand-eyed Kannon Kannon.

We have visited many temples in Japan during our many visits and the time we lived in the country. Most of the famous ones are difficult to enjoy due to the many tourists visiting them. It is hard to enjoy the spiritual experience of a buddhist temple if it is packed with people. But this temple is different because of its location, which is hard to reach if you don’t have a car.
In addition, the temple is located in a forest with some elevation differences within the temple compound making it breathtakingly beautiful and also very quiet.
The staff and the monks are very friendly and accommodating. We even had a chance to enjoy a private prayer session for our small family. The main shrine (photography not allowed) is carved in wood and features incredible detail. The tour inside the main temple is stunning in every regard. In the back of the temple there are 500 small buddha statues.
At the ticket office you can buy small bracelets, rings and other things to support the temple.
If you have a car and are in the Fukuoka region, this is a very nice visit to include in your planning.

Incredible temple and shrine. The koyo and the huge maple tree is absolutely at its beautiful peak !!!
Koyo season is out this year in all over Japan due to the weather.
But this old maple trees finally gave me the autumn color feels ^^
The temple houses an old 18 hand Avalokistera Buddha and considered to be a national treasure.

Sakurai Futamigaura's Couple Stones, also known as "couple rocks," are a scenic spot featuring two large rocks connected by a Shinto rope. Located about 150m offshore from the Sakurai Shrine in Fukuoka Prefecture, these rocks are enshrined as a sacred place and represent the god of marriage. The male rock stands at 11.8 meters while the female rock is 11.
A wonderful sea side shrine. This is a perfect place for couples to go and enjoy a walk on the beach especially around sunset. Parking is close and at low tide you can stand under the torii gate for some amazing pictures.
David Bush — Google review
I can imagine how beautiful it is at sunset. We visited in the morning before leaving the area and it was still very pretty. I would park in one location then walk down to all the different photo spots.

This is a nice side trip and drive from Fukuoka. It’s said to be 100 most beautiful sunset views and one of the 100 best beaches in Japan. Also sunset watching here is popular. The two rocks are said to represent deities from Japanese mythology, Izanagi and Izanami, with the shimenawa (rope) symbolizing the union and connection between these two Gods. Both the meaning of happy marriage and the history attached to this spot are romantic, making it an often-visited spot by couples. There is an hourly parking lot near by the beach.

Karl Chong — Google review
We went there in early April, so the weather is still chilly and windy. Accesible and with couple of stores to have some food and drinks. Toilet is bit smelly. The place itself is scenic, clean and beautiful, and maybe specially during sunset. We weren't able to witness it ourselves, but I guess it must be gorgeous. Perfect for photo op depending on your preference.
Napoleon Polinar — Google review
Two rocks line up like a couple and rise from the sea. And before that, there is the torii gate of the shrine.
This place is very popular with couples.
It's most convenient to go by car, but you can also go by bus. You can get on and off the bus at Chikuzen-Maebaru Station or Kyudai-Gakkokenshi Station. If you go by bus from Chikuzen-Maebaru Station, you have to change buses or walk for about 30 minutes because the number of buses is small.
Some people come by bicycle, but it seems that they use a rental bicycle after coming to the surrounding area by bus. It would be quite tough to go by bicycle from Chikuzen-Maebaru Station.

We drove to Sakurai Futamigaura Couple Stones in Itoshima from Tenjin, which took around 50 minutes without any traffic 🚗. The visit was absolutely worth our time. The landmark, known for its iconic and special white torii gate standing in the sea and two giant rocks joined by a shimenawa rope, is breathtaking 🌊. It's perfect for couples due to its romantic history and symbolism of happy marriage 💑. Arriving around 11 am, we found it already bustling with visitors keen to capture its beauty 📸. Highly recommended for a unique and picturesque experience, especially for those seeking a romantic outing.

One unique torii, two beautiful couple stones, soft waves and breathtaking sunsets are what you'd experience here. The afterglow is marvellous, be sure to capture every moment of the sunsetting. A nice photo can be taken placing the sun in between the torii pillars.
Not sure about other days but my experience was that there were not so many people but it looks like there gets to be many people cos of the facilities around. All in all, it's beautiful. Enjoy!

A must visit to all couples out there. The place is less than an hour drive from the center of Fukuoka. No hustle with a place for parking in the area and resto to dine in. It will not take much of your time staying in the place but surely a worth visit. A sacred couple rock that symbolizes marriage made it more lovely with its scenic beauty, imagine you and your partner in it.
A good parking lot is what it is. You can park your car here 100% legally. And it's not far away from the park. It does run out of empty spots during vacations but once you get in, your car's gonna be alright. I've seen better parking lots but none challenge the location of this one. Even my car was happy when I parked it over there.

I went there after 12 o'clock on a sunny Sunday in late August, and it was a little empty, but by the time I got home it was full. Anego Beach is a seafront stretch located on the far western edge of Itoshima. The long, straight beach is popular for surfing and SUP surfing when conditions are right. Visitors can enjoy the unique sand that makes a sound when walked on. The area offers free parking, rest areas with vending machines and toilets, making it convenient for beachgoers. Despite being relatively quiet during the fall, it's likely to be busy in the summer.

There is a saisen box in each place, so we recommend bringing plenty of coins for the offering (lol).

Literally in the middle of nowhere, this museum is quite a find. Look for a building with huge stones in front of it. Walk around to the back --> front entrance. When the capital was at Dazaifu, Itokoku was the “avant garde” against incursions by the Chinese. Thus you find a lot of weaponry artifacts here. Look for the Ascent of Man bas reliefs as you go up the stairs. Then you can see some old typewriters, telephones, etc. It reminds me of the Chumash museum in Santa Ana, with a touch of the Mission at San Juan Capistrano thrown in for good measure. Walk across the river (via the monkey bridge) and visit Farm Park while you’re there.

(Translated by Google) First visit. A variety of items associated with Itoshima's history are on display, from ancient excavated artifacts to modern agricultural tools and household goods from the Showa era.
The highlight is the largest mirror, one of the largest, and the number of mirrors unearthed during exchanges with the continent.
For history buffs, there were items on display that would be of interest.
It was interesting to see that there were mirrors where you could actually touch the replicas and feel their weight, and see your own reflection, but since this museum was built a long time ago, the exhibition methods were generally inorganic.
I thought it would be easier for more people to get involved if there were more explanations for beginners, easier-to-understand illustrations, and lighting effects.
I didn't have much time to enjoy it, so I would like to do some research and visit again next time.

Fukufuku no Sato is a popular spot known for its fresh seafood and vegetables. Visitors can enjoy cooking or baking the fresh seafood themselves, and the sitting arrangement is convenient. Despite long lines, the service is quick. The place also offers delicious baked cheesecake and gateau chocolat made by Mr. Oba. Additionally, it features a beautiful sunflower field and a village market with various local agricultural products like veggies, fruits, tofu, karage, and ice cream.
The fresh seafood items here are mouth watering. So fresh. You get to cook them or bake them all by yourself. The sitting arrangement was very convenient. The service was very quick although there was a long line before we got seated. It's a pretty famous place. Would definitely recommend trying out. There are some sakura around too. Really beautiful.

The place would be wonderful but for the fact inhumane way they present the fish in the supermarket: left in plastic-sealed foam trays to asphyxiate before the customers eyes, presumably for 'freshness'
I'm no crusader for animal welfare but I couldn't stomach it personally, it seems so unnecessarily cruel.

Keya Beach is a popular sandy beach in Itoshima, offering shallow waters suitable for swimming and kayaking. It is one of the few officially designated swimming areas in the area, making it a safe spot for stand-up paddleboarding (SUP). During the summer, beach huts known as uminoe offer SUP board rentals geared towards leisure activities. The water is clean and clear, perfect for swimming even at a distance from the shore.
Gorgeous!! It was a very short and cheap bus ride to this beach. From the bus stop it’s about a 10 min walk and then all of a sudden you’re hit with this amazing view of turquoise water and beach. I cannot believe my luck that it’s nearly empty I only wish I remembered to bring my bathing suit to swim. The water is shallow and calm and warm. I picked up some shells and saw baby squid!

The beach was so nice, we came back two more times during our trip. The water was clean and super clear, even when we swam out far. The sand is pretty coarse but it wasn't uncomfortable. There are three shacks along the beach (we spent our days at the second one - really great, friendly staff, some of which spoke great English) which offer different amenities. We paid 1000yen for a private cabana, parking, access to hot showers, toilets etc. and another 2000yen for a full BBQ including food, utensils, coal etc. We did get stung by a bunch of jellyfish though, but there are staff on hand to help if need be.

Near the sea/beach in fukuoka. Wow! Surprisingly!😊🥰The parking lot is free and no entrance fee. The water is clean but there are many tree branches. The sand is nice but there are quite a lot of branches and leaves but even so we had fun and enjoyed swimming. The water is cold and it’s perfect for the hot weather🥵

This is a nice beach to visit in the summer's, there are small waves and the water is clean as well the beach.
There is a toilet for changing but no shower. Overall a great place in itoshima.
I recommend going with friends, or families. There are no public transport leading to this place so you might want to drive. From here we drove to Palm beach to see the sunset.

A nice beach to hang out with families I supposed though it was empty when I was there. Nothing was opened and there was renovation going on. Probably getting ready for the summer crowd that will be visiting soon. Clear sea water.
Isabella Tan — Google review
The little peninsula that this little beach is on is packed with things to do. The beach itself is nice. Come summer there are more amenities and it gets crowded. Best to bring shade, high summer in Japan is a broiler, you will get cooked. The water is warm and clean but come late July the jellyfish start to appear and while not the super poisonous kind, the sting isn't fun...and you will get stung if you take a swim. Even with goggles these little transparent a$$holes are hard to see. So, you're dying of heat on the beach, beer number four has deleted the jellyfish from your mind and you do the running-to-dive-into-the-water thing and BAM, jellyfish across the forehead...and hand because you try to bat it away...and the back of the leg as you hustle back to shore and the beer cooler. This is repeated on every beach in Itoshima.

Mount Rai, situated in the vicinity of Tenzan slightly to the east, offers an opportunity to encounter Oni Yuri during the month of August. The vertical route originating from Iharayama provides a pleasant and convenient passage. This ascending path is cherished by many, allowing them to traverse it back and forth with ease. To combat the heat, one can opt for long-sleeved attire while walking on this vertical road, which occasionally gets adorned with Japanese pampas grass during summertime.
Worth going for sure, especially in autumn. Not much sakuras on the way in Sakura season. Be ready for some dirt if it has been raining for the past few days. I saw people even use rope to help each other to go uphill, nice idea to bring one with you. There's convenient bus from Chikuzen-Maebaru st to the Rai temple. You can go from there to mount Rai and Ihara (10-12 km) and then go to another bus stop that goes back to Chikuzen-Maebaru st. On weekend the schedule is 9:10 departure from the station and 17:00 departure back (another bus stop).

(Translated by Google) The Hirahara burial mound is an old burial mound that has been identified as the king's tomb in Ito, which is described in the article of the Toshoden Den. There are no weapons such as bronze burials in this grave, and a large inscribed flower-pattern mirror and a rectangular ruler have been found. On the signboard was written the theory of an old burial burial of Takashi Dainichi. If you take this theory, Yuki Ohichi is the same god as Amaterasu, so the descendant of Ito will become the great royal family. There is a theory that this old burial mound is not only a tale of Takahisa Daiichi but also a tomb of Himiko.
It seems that the inward flower crest mirror from this burial mound was quite large and crushed. The mirror is worthy as a regalia, so there may be a queen with considerable authority and it was shattered by the death. By the way, a samurai is a shrine maiden, and Otsuki Hinoki is a shrine maiden of your precious day. In terms of sound, it might be a great Himiko, and maybe Himiko = Yuki Ohichi = Amaterasu. In any case, it seems that it does not change to be a royal tomb of an important country in the late Yayoi period.

Forest Adventure Itoshima is an eco-friendly park nestled in the lush natural environment of Itoshima Island. The park offers high canopy trails, adventure courses, and zip lines suitable for all skill levels. Visitors can partake in exhilarating activities such as zipboarding, a thrilling aerial skateboarding experience using a zipline that fosters team spirit. Families with children aged 9 to 14 can enjoy the safe and exciting canopy courses, with additional rounds available for a supplementary fee.
It was a great experience for my children 9, 11 and 14. My kid had a 2nd round at the canopy course for my 9yrs old and they charge me additional 1000yen. I think the kids love it. Very safe.
Ethan Ong — Google review
Our family of five (kids ranging from Jr. High to 2nd grade) had a great time on the Canopy Course. There’s one small practice course and then three (four?) courses that make up the Canopy Course, each one ending with a zip line with the last one being the longest! It was perfect for our whole family and the other families that went with us. It was great being able to spend time in nature together and try something new. The traffic was pretty bad leading up to the waterfalls, but then was ok again after. Google Maps didn’t count for the bad traffic which added at least 20-30 minutes to our trip. Maybe because it’s up a mountain? If you’re going on a weekend or holiday, add 30 minutes to what Google Maps says it’s going to take if it’s showing that there’s no traffic up the mountain.
P&J Oh — Google review
Our family had a fantastic time at the Canopy course, as it catered to the height restrictions of my younger daughter. This course is perfect for beginners and offers challenges for those who may be afraid of heights. It took us approximately 1 hour to complete the course, which consisted of 4 areas with a gradual increase in difficulty. The zip lines at the end of each area were exhilarating and added to the fun. The staff at the facility were extremely friendly and helpful. Overall, I highly recommend trying out this experience when you're in the vicinity of Itoshima

However, the shortest route has some steep slopes, so it may be difficult for elderly people.
It was still before the mountain season opened, so there were a lot of fallen leaves and it was quite difficult to walk.
The view from the top of the mountain is not very open, but if it's sunny you can see all the way to the ocean.
It was foggy when I climbed, so I could only see a blur.
