Suwa Lakeside Park is a picturesque waterfront destination offering a variety of activities for visitors. From angling, boating, and cycling to enjoying summer fireworks and winter ice formations, there's something for everyone. The park features a geyser center with a scenic lakeside path for leisurely walks and boat rides. It's an ideal place to relax, enjoy the fresh air, and have a cup of tea while taking in the beautiful lake views.
Not too many staff you can do , but that's the main reason , it is a very good place to relax and smell fresh air without any distraction or just talk to your friends while having a cup of tea with the beautiful view of the lake , not mentioning that you can have a very nice photoshoots in that place with too many poses that you can imagine, if you are going to nagano or Matsumoto , don't miss visiting this place , it's worth it , it is 5 minutes walking from JR Kami-suwa station.

The Suwa lake as well as the area around it (including the Lakeside Park) is very beautiful in respects of nature: one can see many different species of birds, take a relaxing walk around the lake (3-4 hours), or just enjoy sitting quietly in the grass, feeling the fresh breeze from the lake (which the people living in Suwa also call "Suwa no umi", "the sea / ocean of Suwa"). Its also very recommendable to drink a coffee in one of the cafés or restaurants around the lake - some of them have walls of glass on the second level, enabling the customers to enjoy a nice view on the Suwa lake with the mountain panorama in the background.
In summer one can watch fireworks over the lake. All in all it is a very romantic and beautiful place.

Kirigamine, specifically the Kurumayama area, is a part of the Yatsugatake Chushin Kogen Quasi-National Park and offers stunning green landscapes and diverse wildlife. The highest peak, Mount Kuruma, provides a small ski resort with one lift that's great for beginners. Advanced skiers can also enjoy the moderate slopes. Additionally, there are opportunities for cross-country skiing and mountain skiing rentals.
Good place to go for driving and taking picture✨There are also hotels to stay just check the website in google👍

There is no separate homepage, and it is only listed on the Suwa City homepage.
Kurumayama is the highest peak in Kirigamine, but Kurumayama has a fairly large ski resort. Kirigamine Ski Resort is a ski resort located about 10 minutes away from Kurumayama.
There are only two lifts, but only one of them was in operation. There are only one beginner course and two intermediate courses. There is also a park where children can play. As the name suggests, this is a family slope.
All three courses are the same length and are all short. If you make four big turns while sliding down a slope, you'll end up at the bottom. Think positively about the fact that you will be riding the lift more often, and you will have more opportunities to reflect on your own skiing. As a result, lift fees are set very cheaply.
There weren't many people skating, so it was a good place to practice.

(Translated by Google) This year there is only one lift. However, there aren't many people and lift tickets are super easy, so I think it's a great place to take beginners. Even advanced skiers can enjoy the slope, although the distance is short, and the slope is moderate with some undulations. By the way, if you offer cheap two-hour rentals for BC cross country or first-time petit mountain skiing, it will probably become popular, depending on the price. . . In other words, if it's your first time, this is probably the most satisfying experience.

Tateishi Park is a beautiful park that was featured in a popular anime movie. It offers stunning views of Lake Suwa and has various play areas and walking paths for visitors to enjoy. The park is surrounded by fresh air filled with momiji leaves, making it an ideal place for hiking enthusiasts who love scenic walks. Although the walk to the park may be challenging, it is worth trying as the serene environment and picturesque scenery are breathtakingly beautiful.
The park is wonderful. You can see the whole view of Lake Suwa. There is a parking space and mechanical machine for hot and cold drinks. The only thing that I didn’t like was the toilet opposite to parking lot. It looked unmaintained so it was difficult for me to use. Otherwise, it is such a great place to be during day or night.

Definitely a great view that's worth the trip up. It's a small park at the top of a mountain, with some playgrounds hidden among the trees, and a slide that i would have went on if not for the rain😆
If you intend to hike up,make sure you have a gps, though there are some footprints on the road to guide(not at every turn though). If you are taking the bus,do note of the bus timings, they're not very frequent. If you take a taxi up,strongly recommend to have the taxi wait for you, unless you can call to book the taxi (else you'll have to walk bout 20-30min down). Of course,if you hike, the scenery at different parts down the is also quite worth it.

Nice spot to capture the whole Lake Suwa with beautiful sunset 🌅
As of 26 Nov, sunset was at 16:34 and it got more crowded by that time, better check it out and plan ahead, otherwise you’d spend more time to wait for such beautiful sunset. It’s better to drive up there, although a few people went there on foot, probably took them at least 30mins to walk up from town. Carpark space is quite limited and queuing would not take too long given a lot of people stayed there for approximately half an hour.

Nice day trip to see this 16th century castle in the middle of the city. We could see Mt. Fuji in the distance and even during winter, it was still nice to see the castle minus the crowds. Ducks, pigeons, hawks and even a kingfisher were at the grounds. Unlike the Matsumoto Castle, the renovated stairs inside here are not scary to step on. The museum itself is small, just one room for the big pieces, but many are remarkable. They have what they proclaim is the world's biggest crystal ball and it looks likely true. Beautiful glass sphere. Other small pieces are around hallways etc.
The gift shop is big with glass items and some food, and several craft rooms come off it. We made a candle, where you use coloured sand and little pretty glass ornaments to make a scene in a glass jar, and wait for one hour for them to pour very clear wax into it.
It is not cheap, every little ornament is 440yen, plus the cost of the jar etc. is 2500 to 3500 yen.
My daughter also made a glass stamp that she drew and they used a machine to sand blast away what she didn't draw.
Pretty cool.
Also an ice cream stand is there, nice maple caramel ice cream.
And a bakery/restaurant we didn't try.

They sell a selection of freshly produced miso from the area - which is quite fun to explore. They also provide a filling bowl of soup (made of miso and pork?) for only 100 yen - super cheap! (they also sell ice cream which I have not tried). Staff are really nice and friendly.

I was really looking forward to trying the Tonjiru so I headed there without having lunch, but I couldn't eat it because it was undergoing renovations.
I felt sorry for my husband as he was so looking forward to it (he says Takeya Miso was 70% of the fun of his trip to Kamisuwa).
The latest Google reviews had reviews from people who ate there, so it's my fault for not checking the official website (I'm keeping my lodging in check), but I can't change my travel dates, so I'm just out of luck. I'll do what I think.
We bought miso and miso-based sweets as souvenirs, and received some soft serve ice cream.
It's a soft serve ice cream, and my husband said it had a great miso flavor, but I didn't really taste it...but it was easy to eat and delicious. I also ate the sweets cookies at home and they were delicious.
I'm looking forward to eating miso from now on.
The staff at the store were very kind and greeted me with a smile.
The woman who was coming in and out of the renovated area was very unpleasant (she was staring at me, and I was treated as if I was getting in the way when I passed each other), which was unpleasant...I think she was related to the business, but she was in a customer service store and there were customers there. I think you should change your attitude a little more. (By the way, the male vendor said "excuse me" when passing each other)
I have some regrets about the pork soup, so I would like to try it again in a few years.

The Taizi Harada Art Museum is a relaxed venue that offers picturesque views of the lake, featuring the life and landscape paintings of local artist Taiji Harada. His unique and original Japanese landscapes are depicted through acrylic painting with warmth and simplicity. Despite facing challenges in his early years due to polio, Harada's work reflects his passion for sharing Japan's natural beauty. The museum continues to showcase his art today, which can be visited by those interested in experiencing his artistic legacy.
I loved this museum, there was so much character in the artist that shines through his pieces. I won a book in a survey raffle as well.

Even if you don't know the painter's face, you can remember it on the cover of the weekly magazine!
The unique original Japanese landscape is warmly depicted by acrylic painting.
At the age of one, he suffered from polio and had a disability in both legs. However, perhaps because of the warm surroundings of the people around me and the influence of my father's signboard business, the simple Japanese landscape of the past that we can share with us is depicted!
It is said that he is still alive and well, and that he is sometimes taken to this museum by his daughter and his wife.

As the name Kirigamine suggests, the view is covered in fog, but occasionally the view opens up, and at those times you can see a fantastic sight.
I went there wearing summer trekking pants, but the bamboo grass in the undergrowth was wet with night dew or mist, and my shins and shoes got wet, so if you don't like that, it's better to wear rainwear even just underneath. It might be good.
The course around the wetland is a well-maintained wooden path and is easy to walk, but the course from the Venus Line parking lot is mostly a mountain trail, so it will be difficult if you don't have proper shoes.

The Suwa Taisha Upper Main Shrine (Kamisha Honmiya) is a vast complex comprising wooden Shinto shrines, worship halls, and sculptures located in the serene forest of mountain foothills. The site is well-maintained by staff dressed in traditional attire who perform blessings such as safe travels for visitors. The shrine stamps are available here, adding to the experience. The sumo shrines are also worth visiting.
Visited this famous shrine in Nagano every new year these years. Love the atmosphere and you can eat and shop along the way to the shrine. Parking area is too busy during new year holiday but lucky enough to fine some vacancy a bit far from the spot.
Cecilia Chen — Google review
We enjoyed this shrine very much, tranquilly located on the edge of a forest and seemingly in harmony with the grand, towering trees that surround it. It is hard to appreciate Shinto shrines if you are not Japanese, or don't have a cultural and aesthetic understanding of their meaning, architecture and significance. But this one is just naturally attractive even if, like us, you have little understanding of what you are looking at. So much beautiful wood in the construction, and a pleasing absence of the signage that seems ubiquitous at many such places and that so badly mars the aesthetics.
Easy to get to by car, with free parking available nearby. Not sure how to go about getting here by public transport.
Howard Banwell — Google review
This was a huge complex. I liked how everyone was dressed in traditional clothes and taking care of the site. It was cool to see a blessing being performed for safe travels for a truck driver and his companion. I was able to get the shrine stamps here. Everything was so well kept. I liked the sumo shrines that where as well which was cool. After visiting here I ate some nice jelly like noodles at a nearby shop which was perfect for the very hot day.

I visited in late January. One one hand it appears run-down—some structures were off-limits due to renovation, but on the other, it just feels really ancient. I did a little bit of research on this place prior to visiting (as we should, to appreciate the place more), and I knew this shrine is very culturally significant and one of the main ones in the country. It’s considered a power spot by many, but the only power I felt was the cold fingers of winter tucking themselves down behind my neck. It was cold. This shrine is one of the Suwa shrines that house the sacred logs that some brave, brave people ride down a mountainside during a festival that’s held every 6 years or so. I forget the name. I’m writing this on my phone half-dizzy after a strenuous hike.

Suwa Grand Shrine (Japanese: 諏訪大社 Hepburn: Suwa taisha), historically also known as Suwa Shrine (諏訪神社 Suwa Jinja) or Suwa Daimyōjin (諏訪大明神), is a Shinto shrine in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. It is considered to be one of the oldest shrines in existence, being implied by the Nihon Shoki to already stand in the late 7th century. It certainly carries a pride of place and there are thousand year old trees around the shrine. Set in a peaceful tranquil forest. A Shinto ceremony was held as we passed by for a large Japanese company and its staff.
The Sunritz Hattori Museum of Arts offers a unique experience with its collection of Edo pottery and ceramics. While photography is not allowed, the museum compensates for this by providing impressive displays that showcase the depth and richness of the artworks. The chronological arrangement allows visitors to appreciate the development of ceramic art throughout history, including early works by renowned artist Tsuguharu Foujita. Moreover, the museum's location near Lake Suwa provides a pleasant backdrop for exploring these cultural treasures.

Clasuwa is a fine dining restaurant that offers grilled meats, pasta and risotto in a spacious setting with floor-to-ceiling windows and a beautiful lake-view deck. It is an ideal place for romantic dinners, but parents with small children should be cautious as they might break the wine and champagne glasses. The restaurant serves an English menu which adds to its convenience.
Sadly, I only discovered this place on my last morning in town. I can’t believe the incredible selection and quality of local foods and specialties. It reminds me of a site-specific Dean & DeLuca. This is where I could’ve been having espresso and doing work by the lake. Maybe next time!

Good view of the lake Suwa. We can eat a lot of vegetables by ourselves. We also eat main dish forexample carry and rice, a grilled pork etc.. It is a nice place to meet your friends and eat lunch there.

Fine dining at its best. Romantic place. Small kids might mess up with the wine and champagne glasses. So be careful. I really enjoyed my risotto. Small serving but rich in flavor and my friends loved their food as well. They have English menu so it was all great.

Food selection is comprehensive, vegetables perfectly cooked and mains were good quality filling, but not to the point of creating waste. Wait staff were attentive and helpful in menu choices. Prices were reasonable for the style of the restaurant

Great view of the nightly fireworks on the roof top beer garden at night. Tasty foods and reasonably priced all you can drink (two hours is 2k yen) but the non-beer drinks are a bit limited and the servers are a bit hit and miss thus the 4 stars. Still, highly recommended place to go to enjoy the fireworks!

When I told him that I wanted to go on a 4-5 hour course to Yashima Wetland, he explained the directions in detail while looking at a map. I set off with the map marked in red. I really appreciate Mr. A's explanations and the way we proceeded according to his instructions (there is a fence to prevent deer from entering, please follow the green rope, etc.). The advice to go through the forest on the way back was also very nice. I think this is a very friendly facility for trekking beginners.

We recommend stopping by before your hike to get information, maps, and to use the restroom. You can't get any information from the staff unless you talk to them, but if you ask questions, they'll tell you a lot. The exhibit contents had not changed for a long time, but by the time the coronavirus pandemic started, they had been completely renewed. Explanations for plants may be a little difficult to understand, but you can learn about geology, animals, birds, topography, etc. by touching them, making the exhibits much easier to understand and more interesting than before. I would like you to learn about it when you go sightseeing.

I think it will be a very good experience not only for sake lovers but also for those who want to learn about sake. You can enjoy sake from five different breweries while walking through the streets of Suwa. If you like it, buy it first. If you don't feel like drinking it, you can get a cup instead of tasting it. Reijin-san is located 2nd walk from Kamisuwa Station. The store is large and they sell many types of alcohol. If you are planning to buy souvenirs, this might be a good place. When I visited the store, I was able to purchase local beer at a reasonable price. There is a tasting space inside the store, so you can compare drinks in a relaxed manner, and it's also a good place to take a closer look at the alcoholic beverages and specialty products.

Well worth a visit for the very nice shop and friendly and helpful staff. Good selection of sake types and sizes - we got the summer seasonal Masumi Suzumisake which was light and refreshing.
You can also buy tickets at this place (and four other participating breweries close by) for a brewery trail (¥2000 per person at time of posting). This gets you a stamp and decent size sample from each place upon visiting, with which you can then enter a prize draw.

The Suwashi Information Centre is a valuable resource for tourists seeking information on rental cars and bicycles at the station. Visitors are questioned regarding their destination, duration of stay, and budget in order to provide personalized recommendations. Additionally, the center offers a manhole card as a souvenir, which can be obtained by collecting it from a manhole located nearby the station. Furthermore, there is an attached product shop where visitors can purchase souvenirs.
