Westminster Abbey is a Benedictine abbey, school and church that was constructed in the 1950s on top of a hill. The church has stunning stone arches and an impressive high ceiling with peaceful surroundings. The monastery offers a trail through the forest to a look out point that provides an excellent view of the Fraser River. It is recommended to dress conservatively as shorts are not permitted inside. Visitors can walk around this tranquil place and enjoy its beautiful architecture without any disturbance.
We came up to see the monastery, just as the sun was beginning to set. It's quite the drive to get all the way up there, however worth it, the church was open stunning stone arches, really high ceiling so peaceful inside beautiful architecture. There is also a trail through the forest to a lookout overlooking the Fraser River. The look out is fenced off because it's quite steep. What a place to watch the sunset, great experience. Hope to return in the summer.

Very peaceful and spiritual place! Here you can soak up serenity and tranquility exuded from this monastery.
Beautifully landscaped with amazing architecture. A quick walk to a nice view of Fraser river. Open to public 5:30 am to 6:00 pm with noon break.

Super chill place to walk and enjoy the quietness.
The lookout point is so-so, quite small and the view is alright.
Nice to come once and see what it is about. It’s actually a pretty small place, and it’ll take about 30-40 mins to see everything outside.
Couldn’t go in due to COVID restrictions.

Beautiful, spiritual and quiet place. Friendly monks and well kept premises. It is not a tourist spot and should be respected accordingly. If you are seeking to connect to God and do some soul searching it is a great spot to start.

This is a very special church and monestary. It is so beautiful inside, and it is sitting on a hill majestically. We came in the afternoon, and the low sun shines through the stained glass. There is a short hike to a viewpoint with a rare, panoramic view of the valley. If you are passing by Mission, come check this place out. It's worth seeing. 1 hr visit is more than sufficient, including the hike. Note: There is a dress code to enter the church as this is a monestary run by the Benedictine monks.

Westminster Abbey is a community of Benedictine monks and home to the Seminary of Christ the King. It is located on the border of the town of Mission, British Columbia. It has a beautiful landscape, and a scenic view overlooking the Mission, the Fraser River, and the Abbotsford.
The Abbey Church has a defining environment with stained glass windows and an elevated cathedral ceiling. A serene, sacred good place for prayers and a place of worship to God. Everyone is welcome to join the worship & liturgy. The Abbey Church is open to visitors from 5:30 am to 6:00 pm (Monday-Friday).

I visited this Abbey a number of years ago, almost by accident. At that time, there were visiting bell ringers and it was unbelievably beautiful. It’s always stayed with me and when I had the opportunity to take a visiting cousin there, I was happy to see it again. No bell ringing, but gorgeous architecture and grounds! I highly recommend taking the time to explore this location!

As a Catholic, I've heard about this place for many years. Finally I have a chance to visit Mission and this place when camping nearby.
You could get a map from the residence visitor centre, or you could just download it from their website. Not too many indoor places were open to public. We visited the church and then walked around the outdoor ground along trails. Very huge ground that you could feel you were hiking in a provincial park. There was a view point that looked out to the city of Mission and Fraser River which was very beautiful. The trail to Our Lady Grotto was not well trimmed. Grass was a bit tall and wet after some rain. Our boots were all wet after about 30-45 mins walking around.
Very quiet and tranquil location. If you are looking for a calm and peaceful experience, this is the place to come.

The monks' singing/chanting during service is very beautiful. The acoustics inside the cathedral add to the effect. Outside is the bell tower, a prominent landmark visible from many places in the valley below. A 5 minute walk from the cathedral/bell tower brings you to a spectacular viewpoint that overlooks the Fraser River valley

A relaxing and nice place to visit. The chapel is beautiful. You can also walk around and take in the beautiful views. There's a visitor centre and you can even talk with the monks

Sadly we came just before closing so we couldn't see the inside... but wow! Was the outside beautiful. Worth the drive. Will definitely return at a better time.

Such a lovely quiet place to visit. The light coming through the stain glass windows was extraordinary. The whole atmosphere was peaceful. Had a nice chat with a monk who has been there 60 years. What a place to grow old. The short walk was enjoyable and the view from the lookout point was lovely.
The Powerhouse at Stave Falls Visitor Centre and National Historic Site is a great day trip from the lower mainland. I recently visited the Powerhouse at Stave Falls, and it was a captivating journey that blended history, technology, and natural beauty. From the moment I stepped inside, the Powerhouse transported me back in time with its incredible collection of photos and stories that vividly portrayed the bustling BC Hydro owned town that once thrived here. The nostalgia-inducing display of "first generation" household electric appliances was a delightful glimpse into the past.
One of the highlights of my visit with the family was the opportunity to witness a mesmerizing tesla coil demonstration. It was a moment of awe and wonder that both kids and adults could appreciate. The Powerhouse also offers a range of interactive exhibits that engage visitors, fostering a deeper understanding of power generation and its impact on our lives.
What sets the Powerhouse at Stave Falls apart is the unique opportunity it provides to step inside a hydroelectric dam generation plant. The sheer scale of the turbines and generators is awe-inspiring, giving visitors a glimpse into the immense power harnessed by this technology. Once the largest generators with the exception of Niagara Falls.
Taking some time to explore the nearby water bodies and picnic area is highly recommended. It's the perfect way to immerse yourself in the natural beauty that surrounds the Powerhouse. Additionally, don't miss the chance to support local farms along the way, where you can indulge in fresh eggs and vegetables. (Based on honor system, so have some cash)
I must commend the engaging and insightful staff at the Powerhouse. Their passion and knowledge added an extra layer of excitement to the experience. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a technology lover, or simply seeking a unique adventure, this destination is a must-visit. Prepare to be captivated by the power of electricity and the rich tapestry of stories that unfold within the walls of the Powerhouse.

This was a surprisingly really great museum. It was fun and interactive and the history has been really well preserved. There's a really terrible and hilarious video to watch. And there's lots of fun ghost stories that go with that place also.

Great for older kids and adults, but younger kids might get bored.

This museum has been in my list for years. I’m so glad we finally made it. Even the kids (10 & 11) really enjoyed their visit. There are many hands on “toys” to play with and they took full advantage of that. That staff were very helpful and eager to share their knowledge. They did a small presentation of the Tesla coil. We really enjoyed our visit!

I thought it was only quick video at first, maybe a little gift shop tour. Nope! You see everything! Turbines, generators, over head crane, plus small experiments to see in detail how electricity is made by hydro dams.
Bonus all staff were happy and engaging, but gave distance to explore all the nooks and crannies.
For $8 - I'd recommend this to anyone.

Best day trip from the lower mainland. My kids (4 & 2) loved it, but my electrical engineer in laws from abroad loved it even more. Lots of great displays of electricity for kids and adults alike. Wendy gave us a display of tesla coils and acted as a guide for us as well!
The centre is fairly quiet but I needed my ear plugs for sensory issues. They are wheelchair accessible and you can use most of the displays with a wheelchair or other devices. There is an elevator to go from floor to floor if you're unable to use stairs.
I have no interest in electricity or anything related to this and I still had an awesome time.
I recommend that they get some lightning bug shirts and merch because they have some excellent opportunities to make me go broke.
The Hayward Lake Reservoir Trail is a wide and easy walk with no incline, making it perfect for leisurely strolls. The trail features a great off-leash dog beach, ideal for furry friends to enjoy. Absolutely love this place, it is a staple in missions history. They always have some sort of event going on, as they have a dirt bike/ quad race track, they have a drift/ regular race track, and they have the drag strip all at this compound. Highly recommend bringing your kids to experience the feel of power from some of these cars as it is exhilarating. The staff are extremely friendly and the place is kept extremely clean. Lots and lots of parking always, and they allow camping if you are from out of town and are staying for some of the weekend events. You can also park your truck or SUV along the side of the drag strip to have a really cool view.
They are now starting to stream a lot of the events on MRP Lordco Tv YouTube channel so you don’t miss out on the coverage of these events. Mission residence usually get in for free or get a discount, just bring ID to show that you live in mission.
Over all I will be always coming back to mission raceway park as it never disappoints and is always a great time!
Thanks to all the volunteers and workers that keep this place running!

Last year's review, edited to add 💡s from a mind-blowing Raceway moment I was remiss not to mention b4 --:prob cuz it makes me cry.. [At the end]
It's hard to convey the visceral thrill that compels you to pack a cooler on a blistering summer day & burn down to the Raceway to bag your fence-side spot smack next to the track, then drop the tailgate alongside fellow fans -- or join 'em in the stands -- to experience the heady highs of high-octane drag racing, Mission-style..
Words & pix don't do it -- the fun is in BEING THERE. There's usually a breeze coming off the river -- but if you get too hot, there's always the AC'd trailer that sells Freezies++ (& ball caps.. & $3 HotWheels..) & the stands --esp the parking-lot side-- are the coolest spots for viewing races & hearing the emcee, a resident expert who knows his stuff & keeps the crowds informed & entertained with his quick & witty commentary.
It's an ear-bustin, eye-poppin rush of impressive speed machines of all breeds -- hot rods of all eras -- on display & blasting down the track at breakneck speeds (110-200 MPH not uncommon in 'Street-' themed heats.. & hub's fave 'Door Slammers' often hit 200-260 MPH: pure thrills!)
We've attended each summer now for 6-7 years -- good times always guaranteed...
One magic M.R. moment will stick in my mind forever. It was at the end of a full racing day & we were climbing the bridge stairs to leave, when we heard the emcee announce a special exhibition -- by an EV! Intrigued, we found a spot on the bridge & waited, eyes glued to the track below. Hushed silence fell as a sleek dark form shot up to the start, refracting the sun's orange glow like shards of glass. Then without a sound it was off, shooting straight down the track like a giant speeding bullet, silent & surreal. In a flash -- a blink of an eye-- it was a shadowed blur slipped from sight into the night. Time seemed suspended b4 the crowd eventually exhaled in stunned unison, awed by the beauty of what we just saw. (Speed posted: 268 MPH) Simply: EPIC.

We love this park! Especially in summer, as there are tons of great events here.
The space is beautiful, large with a great view of the Fraser River and mountains.
A large covered area with picnic benches, a large playground and sand pit for kids. A HUGE hill to climb and roll down....
The space is also attached to some very tragic and important history, as this was the location of St. Mary's Indian Residential school. In some places, the original concrete foundations remain and there are signs to read, although my last visit had a sign saying they were working on new ones, with Indigenous Elder input..

Heritage Park is the best park in Mission for me to walk around to get fresh air and exercise. Even on its dreariest days, it is still a great walkabout. The landscape and forestry is vast and beautiful, and the gravel trails are consistent with the layout of the park. I even like the sight of the cemetery and garden beds that I pass by while walking. This park is a hot spot for a lot of events and attractions. There is also the Blackberry Kitchen, which is a great eatery. A lot of people have judged this park harshly on the fact that it was located at a residential school, where aboriginal kids have been abused. I try to see the beauty in the scenery rather than the dark history that occurred behind it. I was even at the Stolo Nation ceremony they held at Heritage Park, where people of Aboriginal descents delineate on the dark history and suffrage behind the residential schools while taking solace on the recognition of the truth and expressing their hardships through their ceremonies. Overall, I enjoy coming to Heritage Park whenever I feel like going outdoors and embrace nature.
