Rietvlei Nature Reserve is a large and untouched nature reserve in Gauteng, South Africa, home to four of The Big Five game animals - black wildebeest, buffalo, cheetah, and lion. Visitors can explore the reserve at their own leisure from the comfort of their car on easy day-trips. There are also guided hikes and horse trails available for those who want to get out more deeply into the reserve.
Must visit game reserve for the whole family. Much to see in terms of tons of bird species and plenty of animals that include the hippo and rhino. There are picnic and braai spots inside for relaxing. These spots must be vacated at 6pm, with the main gate closing at 7.
We got a bit lost inside on our way out because the roads are not properly marked with sensible directions. If you're gonna exit and are not too sure about the route, I recommend you start moving well on time.

Very well looked after nature reserve, just on the edge of the suburbs of Pretoria. There is a large dam and lots of grasslands as well as some small rivers and reed beds. There are buffalo, cheetah and other wildlife to see, but it is probably the bird life that makes this place so special. With a diversity of habitats you should easily able to see at least 50 different species in a few hours if you drive to different spots. There are also several well maintained birdhides where you can sit and admire the scenery while you lookout for birds. There is also a nice restaurant/coffee-shop where you can get a light snack and refreshments and enjoy sitting out in the peaceful gardens.

Support an excellent nature reserve right in the heart of Gauteng. Easy access from the main routes and they offer a number of facilities along with some excellent game viewing. Very good picnic/ braai facility with ablutions. A tea garden with good coffee or hot chocolate on those cold mornings. Self drive and game drive vehicles. Some unique animals if you are lucky and you can be home in time for lunch if you like.

What a wonderful surprise!
This tiny nature reserve seems well stocked and beautiful.
The roads are clearly marked and easy to drive.
There are several bird hides and loads to see.
There are picnic spots by the dam, and we loved that it was just a small drive out of the city.
R71 per adult.

Affordable and thrilling experience for the whole family! We visited Rietvlei nature reserve and were amazed by the diverse wildlife, including rhinos, zebras, and a massive herd of buffaloes. It's an exciting excursion for children, offering a memorable encounter with nature's wonders.

A pleasant surprise. Though there was a queue we didn't regret waiting. Saw many animals up close including a rhino. Good viewing for the fee paid.

One of my favourite “in the wild” places to relax and unwind. Perfectly located between Kempton Park and Pretoria offering that “outdoor wildlife experience” without having to drive for hours. I haven’t been disappointed yet.
The birdlife is amazing. The hides are perfect for sunset photography. The cheetah’s are always on the list of animals to find. So far I have seen them 3 times… And with the cubs only a few months old it’s the perfect time to visit.
For the more adventurous there’s the wildlife walks and overnight camps. The tar roads are good, however, some of the sand roads need a little attention, especially if you’re in a sedan.
Tickets are purchased on arrival, but credit card only. No cash!

Looking for some quiet time in Nature just 30min out of Johannesburg? Then head out early to Rietvlei Nature Reserve in Pretoria. This beautiful reserve is a bird watchers dream, with tons of wild life too, buffalo, zebra, eland, jackal, serval as well as cheetah! You can only get out at demarcated areas and hides. There is a wonderful picnic site by the dam with loads of seating and braai facilities and there is a coffee shop that offers limited meals. Conservation fees are about R62 for adults (less for children and pensioners). Pack a picnic and head out for a lovely day away from the city hustle.
Don’t forget to pack binoculars and cameras. You can also download a basic bird and animal list from Google for the kids to mark off while driving around.

We visited on a weekend in September 2023 before heading to the airport for our flight home. It was not too busy. There was a short wait to get a ticket, but the roads weren't too bad. It is a nice reserve to drive around and see wildlife. We found the signage extremely bad. This picture of a road sign, with missing arrows and letters peeling off was typical. The bathrooms were pretty bad too. This place could definitely use some maintenance.

Spent a relaxing afternoon driving around the reserve. It isn’t too big so it is a great way to introduce children to a game drive and the love of wild animals. The bird hides and lookout points were a highlight for the children and gave them an opportunity to stretch their legs. I was a bit disappointed with the coffee shop playground. I hope that it gets a revamp so that visiting children can take a break from the drive and recharge. I also hope that the friendly donkeys get better roof in the donkey pen. Overall it was a great afternoon driving through grasslands and wetlands. We saw rhino, zebra, waterbuck, guineafowl, blesbok and many birds. We just enjoyed being in nature.

Such a peaceful retreat, with a huge abundance of water, wildlife & birds.
Extremely affordable.
Roads are well kept but being mainly dirt roads, heavy rain falls can effect the condition thereof.
Photographers paradise.
Braai/picnic area & coffee shop.
Organized hikes & game drives.
Due to the recent heavy rain, some of the dirt roads have been closed off to the public

On my first visit I saw quite a variety of the animals. The clouds also played along to make the scenery more spectacular. Even heard some jackals while driving around the reserve.
The animals are so relaxed around the vehicles that you can have a nice close view of them🦓 I would recommend going here to anyone.

Stunning location and feels like you are escaping from the city. Really nicr picnic spots and the drive to the dam with all the animals is incredible.

Very nice game drive. Lots of animals that includes Cheetahs, rhinos and many more. Pricing not bad for a day out with the family. Place is clean and lots of picnic spots. There is braai areas. So make sure to pack a chop

Had a great afternoon. Reasonable game viewing ending off with a cheetah sighting in the late afternoon (rare sighting so expectations should be moderated). Pretend you’re in the real bush and you’ll enjoy.

The price has gone up and is now currently more than what they indicate on the website. If I remember correctly, it is now R72 per adult to enter the nature reserve. I recommend going early to avoid standing in a queue to enter, which is what we did. Make sure to pack lots of fluids to drink and don't forget a camera or binoculars. A very nice day trip for the whole family!

I have visited Rietvlei twice in the last three months for birding. The place is well maintained, with clean toilets and hides. Unfortunately, the reed's around some of the hides are overgrown, making it difficult to see any water birds. The birds can be heard but not seen. I believe that if the reed's were cut a bit it would allow for better birding. The park itself has a good amount of animals and plenty of bird life. Roads are good in the dry season, but i think that in the wet season some of the dirt roads will be a challenge to normal cars. Picnic sites are clean and well maintained. It is a pleasure to visit this park.

Rietvlei Nature Reserve is a gem on the edge of town in Pretoria East. This quaint, small and stunning reserve is the perfect place for a day visit no matter the season. It has a nice selection of wildlife, often is the home of a cheetah or six, and has an abundance of birdlife that make it a birder's must visit. Animals are relaxed, and the "Friends of Rietvlei" keep the reserve well looked after. It has a beautifully selection of hides, picnic areas, a nice "Coffee Shop" where you can enjoy drinks and food, and the tar roads are well kept, and most of the dirt roads are in good condition too but some sections can be a bit challenging for an urban car especially after rain. The reserve is very popular on weekends, so things can be a bit messy on Mondays and Tuesdays around picnic areas, but usually by Wednesday everything is beautifully pristine again. If you do enjoy this reserve or want to become an avid visitor, join "Fiends of Rietvlei" membership to support the volunteers who look after the reserve, or join their efforts yourself.

Its a nice little urban reserve. Self drive through the reserve. many animals but we saw zebras, waterbugs, ostrich, few rhino, and beautiful bird life. The restaurant had delicious food. But was not very clean. Its an old farm house that needs a good clean.

I absolutely loved the place and the beauty it holds within. It is well maintained and kept clean. They also have some game animals too but none that are carnivorous or dangerous. It is massive and have things that you can do such as calm, quiet drives, hideouts, lapas and bomas and the dam is accessible for being on the water. It is definitely a family orientated place and the kids will be able to enjoy the day and have the best sleep that night.

The hiking trails at Hennops nature reserve offer a stunning view of the game and are perfect for a picnic or BBQ. There are several trails to choose from, including hiking, mountain biking, and off-roading. The reserve also has a historical background, making it an interesting place to explore.
My ultimate favourite Hiking trail until this day!
I can’t express how amazing this Hiking trail was - Endless scenery, Magnificent view points, Very friendly staff, zip line, suspension bridge, caves, everything! The entrance fee is R100 per adult, do take cash coz they had issues with network when it came to using their card machines.
You’re then welcomed by patient and friendly staff that hand you an easy to follow Map with all the available hiking trails and escape routes.
Once you’re in; all the trails are clearly marked throughout as well as signs indicating points of interest. If you decide to opt for the 10km, be well prepared; sunscreen, hat, sticks (very rocky) and WATER. Very competitive (mixture of uphill and downhill) and not for the faint hearted.
There’s plenty of parking, a kiosk, clean restrooms, and excellent security.
This was by far the cleanest, most peaceful and amazing hiking trail I’ve ever been to. Definitely will be back very VERY soon!

Beautiful scenery, well kept premises. The reception and toilets are very clean and the staff is very friendly. They have maps available to take along to help guide you on the trails as well.
The trails are well marked and maintained, and the views are spectacular. We did only a short 2km hike this time but will definitely go back to do longer hikes. They have various trails available of different lengths and difficulties.
The picnic area is also well maintained with mo rubbish lying around. There are two pools for swimming, multiple braai areas available, and lots of shaded areas to sit. The toilets here are also clean and well kept.

Absolutely love this place. The landscapes this place has to offer is amazing. The 10km is definitely not for beginners. It is a hard course. The 5km is a nice light hiking session with a few medium inclines.

A great hiking place! Entrance is R100 but as 2 young ladies hiking we never felt unsafe! There are different hikes to do and much to see - we did the 5km one in about 2 and a half hours. The hike is relatively easy with some spots requiring good leg strength! There is a little restaurant on the property as well and their pricing is good. Bathrooms are available. The drive there is simple enough with a GPS and does require you to take a short dirt road. Cars with lower clearance / that are not 4x4’s will make it - there is also adequate parking space. I definitely recommend going to visit if you’re wanting to experience a nice hike. You do go between the bush as well so it’s not all just flat. The cable car thing is fun to ride - make sure to bring something for the operator who stands there all day helping you use it.

Hennops is by far one of the best places I have ever been to for a hike. The hike isn't too tough but it is somewhat challenging and the scenery is just so beautiful. You will also see that there are a number of caves and bridges along the way too keep you entertained. We went as a big group to do the 10km hike and every single person was thrilled to be a part of it.

So close to JHB/PTA makes for a fantastic morning hike. It took me an hour to do the first two kms due to its beauty, took so many photos. I went in the week and was the only person there. Trail is clearly marked and decided to take on the 10km. The first section was beautiful and super easy. The back part of the trail (starts with a sign suggesting ".....if you are tired, take the escape route as the trail becomes more challenging.....) is quite challenging with less scenery but, a terrific workout. They have some drinks and snacks at the tuck shop but as always, take your water and go super early, it gets hot. Would most certainly go again.

One of my all time favorite hiking venues. I have visited this place for the last 4 or so years and never had any bad experiences. It is always safe, the paths clearly marked and kept clean and accessible. During covid the swimming pools werent available to use and after heavy rains some of the bridges have been relocated. I just personally miss the hospital cave and I've told many people of it but I am unsure how to access it after the rains. There is ample clean toilets and an awesome restaurant area where cold drinks, home made ginger beer and sandwhiches can be purchased. They have card facilities and you pay R100 per person for entrance. You also get a clearly marked map of the area with 3 or 4 different trails to walk. My favorite is the 10km. At the halfway mark on the 10km there is an escape route that warns it gets more difficult for the last 5km, but is well worth the rocky climb. There is no water points on the hike only at the entrance so i would recommend filling up with enough water. I believe the venue itself says bring 2litres of water per person during the hikes. Another favorite of mine is the little "cart" you can sit in and pull yourself across the river as well as a beautiful bridge to watch the river flowing underneath you. Definitely a place to go whether you are a beginner or experienced hiker/walker/adventurer. There is also a beautiful historic story on this farm and is shared on the map for you to experience caves and kraals from the past.

Had the best morning out on the 10km route at Hennops Hiking Trail. So well organised and sign posted and a few great points of interest along the way. We were greeted with a friendly face and detailed map. There are 2 escape routes for anyone who may feel they have bitten of more than they can chew. Views, caves, river, forest. A challenging one but so worth it! Highly recommended

Beautiful hiking spot. The 10 kilometre Krokodilberg trail route was very challenging with an elevation gain of about 350m. The routes are well marked ✔️. There’s a small shop, selling tea, drinks, burgers so you can grab a bite there. Parking had car guards. There’s also a braai area and a large swimming pool, will use in summer. Overall it’s all good 👍🏽

What a lovely place! A total must visit. Different route distances available. We usually do the Zebra 5km trail. this is moderate difficulty, stunning views! Recently we tried the Krokodilberg Trial. Wowie, uhm it is truly intense, as they mention on their website - NOT for beginners or unfit adults. However the spectacular view on this 10km stunner, is WORTH IT! R100 entry. Coffee available before or after. Opens at 07:00.

This hiking trail offers breathtaking vistas, a lush canopy of trees, and a wonderful hiking experience. I appreciate the variety of trail options, and despite the crowd, it doesn't detract from the overall enjoyment or feels crowded. The swing over the river provides an exhilarating experience with stunning views, but the access steps need an extension to make them more user-friendly, and with the addition of a small bag basket. Unfortunately, the Harties Lookout falls short of its name; it could benefit from either tree pruning or the addition of steps leading to an observation deck for better views of Harties. The bathrooms, too, could use some upgrading to enhance the overall experience. Nevertheless, it's a truly fantastic hike, conveniently close to Johannesburg and Pretoria, and I'm definitely planning a return visit.

Dope trail, I'd say it's a medium intensity trail (the 10km trail)... would be awesome if the cafeteria had some oight music to soothe the tired hearts and legs at the end. Else, a refreshing set of views, and the nuclear + cows make for great chats and photos

R100 for a day entry for adults. Not sure about kids I went with four friends on the 5km hike and it was a little challenging for someone who had asthma. I suggest if you are a beginner take it easy on the inclines.

Beautiful hiking trail. I did the 10km trail and it was equally challenging as it was exciting. I would definitely go again. Just be cognisant of peak days where it may get crowded and noisy. People tend to make unnecessary noise and shout in groups, which makes what should be a tranquil experience very aggravating. Besides uncivilised people, this is a beautiful spot for everyone. If you don’t really want to take a long hike, you can enjoy the shorter trail or chill out at the picnic area.

An enchanting escape at Hennops Hiking Trail, Johannesburg! The diverse trails cater to various skill levels, from easy strolls to challenging hikes. Each trail unveils unique natural wonders, from serene riverbanks to rugged terrains. The minimum is a 5km trail followed by a 10km trail. If you up for the challenge you can combine the two to make it a 15km hike. The signage is excellent, ensuring you won't lose your way. A perfect destination for nature lovers and avid hikers. The Voortrekker Monument commemorates the history of the Afrikaner people and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in South Africa. The monument features a unique architectural design that allows sunlight to shine through an opening on the dome once a year (on 16 December) to illuminate patriotic words carved into the cenotaph, the symbolic grave of all pioneers who died during the Great Trek.
Always good to see historical places. This one being special due to my heritage.
The gardens have been redone and looks great.
The restaurants and shops are also beautifully redone and have a wide variety of items for sale.
The FAK liedjie(song) garden takes you through the most recognized songs of the Afrikaans people. Suggestion here would be to have the tunes play by a button or a link to YouTube with the songs.

Some really great art work, old wagons and various items.
At the top you able to walk around and get views of Pretoria. There is a lift for those not able to walk the many steps
It was really worth the visit even though the cost was a bit steep at R205pp , there is a discount for pensioners

Very interesting to understand a part of the history of the Dutch and South Africa. It’s not just a big tower with amazing view over Pretoria but a museum that tells the whole (and sometimes bloody) story. Try to find/book a guide because the story comes alive.

Beautiful historical place to visit, a toponim in Pretoria. Views from the top of the monument are spectacular. There is also a gallery inside. It takes some time to go through the entire building but is worth it. It is also surrounded by beautiful gardens with animal sculptures. There is a gift shop that is not crazy with prices. Plenty of parking even on public holiday. There was a market of antiquities nearby on the day I went, but not sure if it's a regular thing.

As everyone has mentioned, the gardens are really beautiful and well kept! With many photo/selfie opportunities. 😉
There are informative boards which help you to see what you are looking at, all around the grounds, and give some background.
Absolutely worth the visit, the view over the city is beautiful, and you can drive over the mountain and see the city from the other side as well.
The Khoisan (aka "Aboriginal embassy") are still camping out at the bottom (next to Mr Mandela's statue), they have been there since 2018. You can meet them and hear their stories, which is intense, but insightful.

Well manicured gardens and you are able to drive up to the buildings and park really close. Security is tight and you aren’t able to get into the amphitheater which is expected.
You can park and walk down to the Nelson Mandela statue which is a hit with all the tourists. Watch out for the water sprinklers they do catch the stairway. Majestic and stunning buildings.

No entry fee is required.
The upper area is well maintained. The garden is beautiful to be around. It’s a perfect place for a picnic or just “sight seeing”. The view of the city & the sunset from there are beautiful as well.
There are a couple of photographers who will want to take pictures of you, but they won’t harass you. There are also a couple of homeless people/beggars who will ask for your food.
There aren’t many security guards so it’s advisable to come in groups, always beware of your surroundings and stay safe.

Beautiful place to visit with a stunning view of parts of Pretoria. It's easily accessible from different directions. The gardens are well maintained. But wow, the toilets stink. I hope they've improved since the last time. It's a shock to be surrounded by so much beauty and history, and get hit by the smell of dirty toilets. It's a disgrace. There's such a nice vibe here and for a moment you feel part of history as your eyes drink in those beautiful surroundings and the massive statue of Madiba. I love going there.
Pretoria National Botanical Gardens is a botanical garden covering an area of 9 hectares in the city of Pretoria, South Africa. The gardens are home to indigenous plants and flowers from all over South Africa, as well as a variety of bird species. The gardens are divided into two sections by a high quartzite outcrop, presenting different natural moods.
A really well kept national treasure. It's huge, I was not able to go through all of it but it's such a beautiful garden with a variety of plants and flowers. Be sure to have picnic blankets and pillows for a relaxed afternoon

Went on a Saturday afternoon, surprisingly not packed and ample parking. Bring a card to pay for your entrance fee. Pack a picnic, I found there was more than enough shaded benches so we didn’t even use our picnic blanket (maybe on busy days it may come in handy). The bathroom were very clean.

Had a great time strolling through the gardens on a weekday afternoon. Easy access with plenty of safe parking. Good variety of plants although it wasn't too colorful when we went in early March. Lots of green however which is a nice departure from the city landscape. Staff is super friendly and helpful and the entrance fees are extremely cheap. The waterfall and a nice easy hike with some elevation is a great way to breakup the flat areas with the hilly areas.

Nice walk and outdoor for adults, more than kids. I'd suggest a jungle gym or two for the little ones to make it more entertaining for them as there isn't much to occupy a almost 3 year old. Restaurant looks nice, looking forward to trying it some time.

What a great day we had for a picnic. It was unbelievably hot and luckily there were multiple treats available for us to relax under.
Please is neat and clean. Some animals around.
Awill definitely recommend for an outing with the family. There is a place to have lunch and also a waterfall. There is also a hiking trail if you are up for the challenge.

I'm not sure where these other local guides come from, with their 5 star ratings, and I hardly see flowers in a bloom session. It's very dry, and beaches are all written on. It seems not even bothered to try to fix that, and fresh cuts in trees, ash amongst the nature just laying there like no tomorrow, can see how some plants are dying around it.
This place should rather change its name to something else it's become more of a venue and graffiti crafting in benches and trees, unfriendly at the gate, they definitely love their phones way more than helping the customer, really bad attitude. At least the grass is green. Hardly see wildlife, but I guess all the clubbing performances chased them away. But for only a picnic, I'd say it's worth it some nice big trees for shade.

This is by far a jewel in the heart of Pretoria, these gardens takes you away to an oasis that only you can create in your mind. I feel that every time when I go for a parkrun or trail run that the gardens have a way of calming me down and letting me enjoy the moment. If you ever get the opportunity please make a point of taking a walk or even enjoying a picnic

The Pretoria National Botanical Gardens is a very nice place to visit. Their facilities are well-kept and clean. It's a lovely place to take the kids for a weekend picknick. You can also hold birthday parties and celebrations there.

The garden is well kept and a delight for anyone who loves nature and indigenous plants. The waterfall in the forest was a wonderful surprise as it looks very natural, we even saw tadpoles at the bottom. The little cafe was friendly and refreshing after a long walk through the grass lands (which was full of birds and butterflies).

This is quite a vast but peaceful park with its various blooms, waterfalls and its variety of greenery. It is a place where you can spend the whole day just taking endless photos. There is a run organised there which happens on a Wednesday every month. Nonetheless, this is definitely a romantic place to be.

This place is beautiful, so great for a tranquil walk trough the sounds of nature, reading about the different plants and trees, just gorgeous! The Groenkloof Nature Reserve is a popular tourist attraction in Pretoria that is home to a great array of animals like zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, and kudu. The reserve is also great for hiking and biking trails.
I enjoyed my time at one of Africa's oldest nature reserve ,dating back to the very late 1800s. I come for one thing which is the lovely and moderately difficult yellow trail . It's 10.5km long and has 260 to 370m elevation depending on direction of the loop you take . If you take it backwards from 10 to 1km it's far more difficult and hence an even greater challenge. If the conditions are right you will be treated with some wild life signing further adding to the breathe taking views and just the feeling of being in a little green heaven in the middle of our capital city.
Mzo Hlanjwa — Google review
Great trails. Friendly staff and passing faces. A bit of litter on the trail, however all the bins along the way were freshly lined. Great prevelance and variety of birds and mammals.
Went a bit late in the day, so the yellow trail (10.5km) was much quieter; however as with all daytime activities in the warmer months, it is recommended to get out in the early morning or late afternoon when the sun is not as harsh.
Horse riding and 4X4 trails available. Horses were stabled well with clean water provided.
Suitable for all walks of life; families, adrenaline junkies, nature lovers, tourists, patriots and more.

I was pleasantly surprised visiting the Voortrekker Monument after being there as a kid. It is well maintained, clean, and has a lot of historical information across a few other places surrounding the main monument. It's worth the visit.

On the 9th of March 2024 me and my boyfriend went here to do a hike. We decided beforehand that we are going to do the 10.5 km and we did it!
It is safe, that was the first thing we were concerned about but it is. The people we encountered during our hike greeted us friendly back and I loved that.
The entrance fee is R51 which is not at all too bad.
The hike within itself:
As an athlete I didn't find the hike too difficult. There is a few steep inclines but I would definitely enjoyed a bit more technicality.
There is a lot of bushes and trees along the way, which is very nice as one is not permanently in the sun - I would recommend to go as early as possible.
I noticed the trail is very clean, and as you go there are a few dustbins along the way, which I feel more places should implement.
One can still unfortunately hear the busyness of the city during your hike, you can hear cars driving on the highway. I would've liked complete stillness with only the sounds of nature, but I know this is not always possible.
During your hike you can expect to see some wild. We saw some Zebra's.
Overall, the hike was very nice and I wouldn't mind doing it again

This is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Pretoria, offering a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. As one of the oldest game reserves in Africa, Groenkloof boasts a rich diversity of flora and fauna against the backdrop of picturesque landscapes.
The reserve's well-maintained trails provide the perfect opportunity for hiking, cycling, and wildlife viewing. My recent 10 km hike through Groenkloof allowed me to immerse myself fully in its natural splendor. From meandering through lush vegetation to ascending rocky outcrops, each step offered a new adventure and a deeper connection with nature.
Birdwatchers will be delighted by the abundance of avian species that call Groenkloof home, while nature enthusiasts can marvel at the variety of plant life that flourishes in this protected sanctuary.
But Groenkloof is more than just a nature reserve—it's a place of tranquility and rejuvenation. The peaceful ambiance, punctuated only by the sounds of birdsong and rustling leaves, makes it the perfect spot for a leisurely stroll, a picnic with loved ones, or simply a moment of quiet reflection.

Amazing hiking trails, saw Zebras and antelopes.
You should try the yellow route, you won't be disappointed, this is like the longest trail at Groenkloof, try having normal hiking boots as the trail gets a little bit steep and rocky as you get to the end.

Situated in Pretoria, you wouldn't imagine you are so close to the city!
Beautiful quiet hiking, open plains.
There is NO shade whatsoever, so take plenty water.
The only real upsetting thing is that the trails are not well marked whatsoever, and this can make a short- planned walk into a long few hours hike. I advise anyone doing this hike to take that into consideration.

But the 10.5 km is not a joke kkkkkkk
Lindsey Malinga — Google review
The place is fine, doesn't have much slopes and the routes are a bit overgrown, would do with more bins along the hiking routes to minimise the littering. But the place is quite and has less people compared to other mature reserves around Pretoria and given a map at the gate to navigate the place.
Ntiyiso Mathebula — Google review
A truly beautiful nature reserve and a great experience completing the 10km hike. Greatful that we started early, as the first 5km provided some shade and the last 5km was very hot.
The trail was very rocky and I found it challenging as there were plenty of inclines and declines. I would highly recommend good hiking shoes for this 10km as a priority, start as early as possible, take enough water and a hiking stick if required (we had sticks and it was very helpful to balance against the rocks).
We crossed paths with an ostrich and some zebras making it a unique hiking experience, we also saw some game in the distance.

It's kind of uphill and downhill (Yellow Trail 10,5k). Watch your steps; it was a steep climb, mainly at the beginning of it. The views were good—not so many flowers, though. This time, I was not so lucky to spot the wild animals. It was very dark and about to rain. It was a cold morning, and it helped a lot to do the hike.
The terrain isn't for the beginner hiker, and please, if you feel unfit, do not attempt to try it on. There are another two trails you might try: the 4K hike (White Trail) and the 3,5K hike (Red Trail). The tariff was R51 for adults.
The trail was well marked. One of the best hiking places in Pretoria, I would say. Obviously, I will do it again 🥾🥾

The National Zoological Gardens of South Africa, located in Pretoria, is a 210-acre zoo and research hub that offers a diverse range of attractions. Visitors can explore the reptile park, inland aquarium, and extensive collection of exotic trees. The zoo is home to over 3,100 animals representing more than 500 species across various categories. It's dedicated to conservation efforts with spacious enclosures that mimic natural habitats.
My family absolutely loved the day at the Zoo! The gardens and enclosures are clean and well kept, the staff is super friendly and the animals are simply amazing. The zoo has every kind of animal from birds to fish, and reptiles and mammals. The zoo is now a permanent feature on our visits to family in PTA

Parking: R30, Adults entrance R120, Kids entrance R80.
Beautiful array of animals from Africa and other continents alike.
From zebras to koalas, an aquarium to an Australia section, there's enough for a day visit at the zoo!
Golf carts are available for R150 an hour, kiddies carts available from R100 for the full day (+ R20 deposit).
There could be improvements to the bathroom facilities.
There's also quite a few areas under construction, shut down cable services, no kiddie entertainment operating yet its there, or animals empty habitats but I would assume it is recent and they are preparing for better services.
Rafeeah Ally — Google review
Few enclosures and few that are in a good condition. Little water for the animals. River very polluted though they advocate against litter. Seems most of the zoo "is being renovated". ...Goodness knows for how long. Pathetic to put it nicely.

So I visited on a rainy Monday morning 😅 in April.
Pros:
- I enjoyed the serenity. I felt like I had the time alone. Just me and the gorgeous animals everywhere. Ostrich, flamingos, vultures, chimps, elephants, giraffes, different birds, farm animals, donkeys, buffalo, springbok, elan etc.
- Plus it was clean.
- friendly staff
-I think the price of 100pp/ adult is quite fair.
Cons:
- Lots of construction was in progress and they didn't have clear signs as to where to go and where not to access. Hence, My heart was racing so much cos i feared walking in on a wild animals privacy 💀
- i could not visit the bridge area where the white lions, big cats, koala, etc were because on of the workers advised it was slippery because of the rain. (I HAD TO ASK myself cos i had doubts) imagine i didn't, it could have turned out dangerously bad.
- No Signs or maps of the zoo
Tried connecting to a QR code at the welcome desk and it was requesting i connect my bank card 💀💀💀 no bruhh

You get a good welcome at the gate and picture taken, which if you agree upon leaving, you pay R270 for a photo book.
Ice cream, snack and refreshments areas throughout
You can rent a cart (I'd advise you to do so for a better experience - unless you don't mind walking long distances)
Overall good experience.

Would be nice to go back when all the maintenance has been done. Not many young animals most old with not more than 1 friend per cage. Lots of birds ducks and bucks. It could be better hopefully after and if the maintenance is completed it will be worth the $ trip
Right in the middle of town. Shops, kids trains, cable cars and many areas closed off for now.
Victoria Neuwerth — Google review
Our visit was on a Friday at the end of June.
Upon arrival we received the feeding times sheet. We took the kids to see the bear feeding as per the schedule, but were informed that all the bears have died. Why have that on the feeding times roster?!
We then attempted to see the penguin feeding, but there were no penguins to be seen. Anywhere.
The Flamingos, Pigmy, Lemurs, Lions, Leopards and Cheetah sightings were an absolute delight. The kids loved seeing these.
Unfortunately the sea display in the aquarium area had almost half of the displays out of order or empty.
The park gardens are still green and beautiful in places, but there’s a large part that is unkempt. The river / stream flowing through the Zoo is absolutely disgustingly strewn with litter and milky-green with a stench.
The huge bird cage used to be an attraction, but is now overgrown with weeds and all kinds of plants with the cage completely in disrepair.
It does not look like the cable cars are currently working. Possibly due to winter season.
The staff were friendly and helpful.

Great experience with my family. We enjoyed seeing different animals at the zoo. There were electric carts for hire for $150 an hour that could be used to go around the zoo. We opted to walk, and we didn't regret the experience.

I enjoyed my day at the Zoo. Unfortunately it hurt seeing the tiger and other animals suffering from the heat and what I could see there was no water for them. The renovations from what I can see has been over years since construction has started. The cable cars were not working which was a disappointment and the restaurant was closed. The birds on the hill are all by themselves the grass is too high and they have almost no water and no food. We tried to feed them water but failed.

The zoo has always been a great experience and are beautifully kept. Some enclosures are empty which is sad, but there is still a great variety of animals that all are well looked after.

Incredibly disappointed
we were at the zoo approximately 2years ago an today 08-Jul-2023, was the complete opposite experience
many enclosures are empty, some enclosures had only one animal, 60% of the aquarium's and reptiles (snakes) glass boxes(tanks) were empty.
and to top it off, the apies river that flows through the zoo looks and smells bad
werner steyn — Google review
The place was run down and very few animals. The enclosures were dirty and the animals looked miserable. However the reptile enclosure was one of the highlights of the TRIP and hiring the golf cart to drive through the zoo. It's a MUST if you are going to visit the zoo.
Wesley Govender — Google review
Our visit to the zoo was a very sad and disappointing experience. The cable car looks to be abandoned and was out of order. There was litter (plastic bags and cigarette stumps) within the animal enclosures, holes in roofs and just overall looks completely neglected. Even more concerning was that the animals look depressed, under stimulated and the enclosures which used to have beautiful water features are completely dried up. I did not see any enclosures besides the vultures that had fresh water. Even the giraffes had no fresh water, just a small bright green pool of rancid water. The elephant which is a herd animal is standing completely alone in a very small enclosure, completely unnatural. The wolves were in an enclosure that was so small it felt cruel. Three lion cubs, also in an enclosure that was unnaturally and obviously far too small.
We also unfortunately saw staff feeding the birds and limas, throwing the bowls down with absolutely no care or consideration at all. One of the bowls nearly impacted one of the parrots. We were absolutely disgusted by the attitude of some staff toward the animals. We will never come back. We hope and pray the animals do not suffer for too long in those undesirable conditions.
Cara Leigh — Google review
Such an amazing place to visit. You can see almost all the animals there including penguins. 🐧
You may have to walk a long distance but it's all worth it.
The Zoo people feed the Tiger and Lions at 14:30 in every consecutive days. So, if you go there by that time, you can see how they eat their food.
It was R70 for children and R100 for per adult.
Please don't go on public holidays coz they won't open the aquarium.
Overall it was an astonishing experience.
Although I feel really bad about being selfish and enjoying all animals being kept caged but I hope they are well kept even if that won't compensate anything.

We had an awesome day with the little 1 on a Friday. Getting the golf cart for the entire day immensely improved our visit. We were disappointed by the lack of care of the facility. There are lots of animals that are no longer at the zoo. There's a lot of areas that are under construction/refurb.
Alex Lekuba — Google review
Great place to visit. Was able to ride along with a staff member who showed us things behind the scenes. The entire visit was great and enjoyable. The animals were well cared for and saw several feeding activities.
Asheed Abark — Google review
Very disappointing, I was last at the zoo about 9 years ago and they were doing renovations. I thought that it was going to be improved but it is actually worse. The section they were working on is still being worked on and has not changed at all but more of the zoo is now under so called renovations, I think the renovations are just an excuse to cover a deteriorating zoo. Lots of the enclosures do not have animals in anymore, the sea aquarium is mostly empty, the Australia section was closed, the bird aviary is in ruin. Other reviews going back a year or two mention the same things so it is not just a temporary inconvenience, the entrance fee is then expensive considering you only get about 55% of what you pay for. I really hope things improve.
Kent Williamson — Google review
Probably a lot more than I had expected. Great place to hang out and check out some animals. Be sure to get a cart (not included in entrance fee) as that allows you cover more ground in the time that you're there while also having a pretty laid back experience of the zoo. Food is whatever you fancy as they have plenty of stalls there, but you also have the option to bring in your own food, even your own braai if you like

Had the most wonderful experience on The Blue Train 🚆💙, it has been on my bucket list for ages and with international travel restrictions opted for this. The staff on the train where extremely friendly and helpful and went out of the way to ensure you had a wonderful experience. The food was excellent and certainly more than enough for the hungry traveler. The accommodation cabins where very comfortable and elegant. It was exciting to see parts of our country one would not normally see while relaxing in the viewing carriage or from your room while enjoying high tea or sipping on champagne.

Such a disappointment, travelled last October ,the whole trip was full of disappointment. The only reason I am giving 2 stars is for the cabin itself which was beautiful. The trip started off 4 hours late after being cancelled twice for other issues. The rail network is broken with almost every station you past being completely ransacked. We spend more time waiting around than moving due to cable theft on the lines ahead. We missed the stop at Kimberly due to this. The food was average at best. We never made it all the way back from CT to Pretoria and end the trip at an abandon station in the middle of nowhere on a Sunday night in the dark. Do not recommend at any price.

I took my and my boyfriend's mothers to Ludwig's Rose's for a meander amongst the roses. We ultimately couldn't resist buying a rose pot or two. Afterwards we visited their shop with a variety of rose inspired items. We ended our visit with a lunch at The Rose Kitchen. I was pleasantly surprised when our food arrived. Their Rose Soda and Rose Milkshake is sublime and their Asparagus and Bacon Quiche with three salads that I had was exceptional. The portions are decent and the menu, yet small, is reasonably priced. Our waitress was friendly and the restaurant's atmosphere is peacefull and calming. We will definitely return.

The Rose Kitchen is equally admired. Scrumptious treats, thirst quenching drinks and best of all, it is done with a smile. Our waiting staff was Blessing - a wonderful addition to this place - cheerful and just lovely.
I would also like to commend the nursery staff. All very friendly and helpful. A rose is cut for a child to smell. Such gentlemen.
Overall, I highly recommend this gem

Wow what an amazing venue with exceptional service. Organised a picnic for two for me and my partner, and it did not disappoint. Well worth the price for the decor and flower arrangements as well as the food. Truly a wonderful experience. Shout out to Tsitsi and Norman, as they helped me to plan the perfect day for us.

What a beautiful place! The roses were in bloom and I have never seen so many of them at once...stunning! The restaurant is very nice, the prices are affordable and the food delicious. Every staff member was friendly and very helpful. There is a gem of a playing area at the back - with shading nets. I thought it was very unique with lots of toys and a huge sandpit. My kids absolutely loved it. Will hopefully visit again.

Not only in buying, but also in how to treat our new babies. Shop attendant very friendly. I have no complains. We will be back. Oh and the lovely friendly German Shepard who greeted us at the door. Had a wonderful experience taking my mom and friends to the October Rose Festival!
The blooms were lovely, we enjoyed the cute displays set up for the festival and adored spending the day surrounded by roses and a soft breeze.
We enjoyed the little tractor ride through the rose fields, it was a nice break from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The staff is very helpful and kind, I got many kind compliments form the lovely ladies working at the Gin table and the restaurant. You'll be pleasantly surprised at how beautiful the ladies restroom I'd (and smelled fantastic!) Make sure to grab one of the great smelling sanitizers they sell.
Would highly recommend getting the Rose Milkshake! It was delicious 😍💕

It's really a tiresome walk to the actual venue especially for senior citizens or people with handicaps a private golf cart was available at a cost unfortunately I don't suggest the elderly visit this venue without support or being accompanied by others whom van assist
The rest of the venue is OK but it seems neglected if you just look there are no SA flags up as a proud nation whom believes in reconciliation at the very least one would expect the SA flag hoisted this was not the case on the last Freedom Day we celebrated there.

Everyone must make a point of taking a guided tour of Freedom Park, at least once in their lives. If you would like to learn more about the history of humanity as well as South Africa, you will definitely learn a lot from the museum tour. Even if all you're interested in is the architectural splendour or a family walk, Freedom Park is the place to be. The Dando Zest restaurant is one of the city's beautiful hidden gems. You can making a booking to sit there for a business meeting or even an intimate celebration.

Overall it is an absolutely spectacular and spotless centre, very well maintained and clean. The restaurants are all super, however the only downside is that almost every retail store sits without electricity pitch black when there is load shedding and you'd think in the centre there would atleast good generators to power the shops. The poor shop assistants stand there hoping for a sale because the shops all look very much closed...

This mall is very unique. It feels like it's exclusive for those who want a different experience to the run of the mill shopping centre and want to feel special. We enjoy the Woolworths, where we sometimes have a quick coffee and breakfast, the Spar and Pick 'n Pay. I wonder if "beetroot" is still there? Love Nicci. Definitely go to Exclusive Books every time. We've been to a few lovely restaurants. This is my kind of mall. Today we just popped in at Spar and Clicks, so our parking was free for less than 45 minutes.

Aletta Poppi Gumede — Google review
The Place is great, beautiful and nice restaurants. However security is a problem, they block roads that access to the circle for drop offs. They are very rude and give favoritism to "other races" and they close parkings in front of Ribs & burger with cones and open them only for the favorites. For the unpleasant parking experience, I don't think it deserves 5 stars, because if my experience is bad before I get in, my day is already ruined even when I'm gonna enjoy the food and the atmosphere at the restaurants.

I never knew there was a complete shopping center right next to the entrance of the stadium! That was super cool. Bathrooms was really bad and be aware that most seats on the west side of the stadium right now is completely emerged in the sun. But the atmosphere was great for a 3pm game. And the bulls won. Def will be back, but I'll make sure we get seats on the east side next time

I was at Loftus once again, this time for Krone. This was the largest and first outdoor Krone concert ever.
The performances were off the wall entertaining. However, I did not go all the way to South Africa to listen to Beach Boys and Journey cover songs. I, like most folks, came to hear the Afrikaans treffers that these artists have released. Seemed like only 20% of the show was devoted to Afrikaans. Shame, this is "Krone," not "crown."

Amazing atmosphere. Simply the best place to watch a SA Rugby match. 50,000 people will likely attend any SA match along with you so expect queues at the entrance, bars, toilets, exits, etc. Still a worthy experience. Castle Corner is the best place to be if you can get those tickets. Easier access to drinks & toilets. Good vantage point to watch the match etc. Only downfall is that emotions run as much as the alcohol here so expect scuffles amongst the fans. Security is not equipped to stop these so they tend to get a little out of hand. Still, they are isolated and should not Mar your experience.

I had an awesome time watching a Blue Bulls vs Stormers Game here. There were security guards everywhere and people selling food and snacks throughout the stadium. Only downside was there was no water in the toilets when I took a bathroom break during halftime but other than that it’s great.

Great experience on match days. Can be confusing accessing the upper levels. Go at least 2 hours before kickoff for football (Sundowns CAF) games and don't seat by the railings because crowd control is not the greatest and you might have people hanging on the rails and blocking your view. Easier on rugby match days although national team games can be crazy too. The stand with the players' pitch entrance is good if you want to stay out of the sun. Everywhere else you'll be baked. Overall, a great experience each time though for me.

It is one of the most beautiful stadiums that I have visited in the world, due to my work as a journalist in sports stores. The location of the stadium helped me stay in a hotel that is only 6 walking distance from it, in addition to the number of cafes and restaurants.

Just watched the Springbok vs Australia! And it was amazing! Sold out and the vibe is simply just amazing! Security is on point and extremely friendly. Would suggest paying additional for secure parking within the stadium especially if a game is sold out as it’s easier and extremely convenient to drive in and out of the stadium with little to know traffic as there is a dedicated route for the people who bought tickets via Ticket pro for parking within the stadium. We sat in a suite and it’s also extremely convenient as drinks and finger foods are all included in the suite! Paying bit extra for secured parking and suite is extremely worth it!

Such an easy, lovely, well kept nature reserve in Pretoria. There is absolutely no litter and there are some wild animals, a river, a bird hide, lots of plants and an on site restaurant. Children can do the hike easily. Just be sure to bring some water and snacks. Otherwise great hike that can be done in 1-2 hours. Not crowded at all

A beautiful, clean and well maintained nature reserve with an easy - moderate walking trail. The nature reserve also has a lovely rest area and a well kept hide for bird watching. The reserve is also free of charge. This is truelly a gem in PTA east.

Enjoyable walk in unspoilt quiet environment. Easy to forget that we were surrounded by residential areas. We only walked a few kilometers because we had babies with us. Paths were quite wet in places but safe enough. We saw ostriches, antelope, tortoises, guinea fowl, zebra and other buck at a distance. There are many bird species so spending time will be rewarding.
Only negative comment is that paths can be better marked with distances. We needed to find a quick way back with the babies and needed to use a hiking app to get an idea where we could take a shorter route back. Obviously we would not need this after a few visits. We look forward to visiting again.

Fantastic nature reserve, there are some buck and zebras and a handful of ostriches. The reserve has a number of different trails available, each differing in distance and varying in "difficulty". There are benches along the trails to rest and bird hides. A small river flows through the reserve which adds to its beauty and attracts a wide variety of bird life. For those not wanting to enjoy the trails there's a great restaurant with a À la carte menu. There's a playground as well for the kids, next to a section of the restaurant's outdoor tables so parents can enjoy themselves and still keep an eye on the kids. Security wise there are guards at the entrance next to the parking area

This past Sunday we decided it was time for nature and went out to Moreleta Kloof Nature Reserve. It’s been 2 years since my last visit and this time around it felt new. As if I missed a few things when we were there last.
Moreleta Kloof Nature Reserve is in Eastern Pretoria. They have 2 not much of a challenge hiking trails. They are ideal for a Sunday stroll in nature. The trails are less than 5km in length and mostly covered by trees. Along your walk, you might be lucky to see small game species like the Bushbuck, Springbok, Duiker, Zebra, Blesbok, and Ostrich. If you are into bird watching they also have a bird hide.
The cost of entering the Nature Reserve is free. They open at 06:00 a.m. and close at 6:00 p.m. Monday to Sunday.
If you get hungry they have a restaurant on site called Rademeyers. We did not have the time to give them a go so I don’t have anything more to say about that. I just think it’s a nice addition to the reserve and we will surely give them a go next time.
All and all it was a positive experience for me. Thanks to Friends of Moreleta Kloof Nature Reserve it seems to be well-kept. I did not see any rubbish around and the trails are well marked. So, if you are in the Pretoria area and need a dose of nature I recommend you give them a go.

Definitely not for the faint hearted (or I'm just very unfit :). Lots of uphill/downhill climbing, steps, very rocky and uneven, long trails. Needs more seating available along the trails. Trails need more clearer signage, many times I did not know which path to take exactly. Toilet door doesn't close, so that was awkward... Saw beautiful zebras and bucks, and proteas. I think Duiker route is easier than Suikerbos.

This was an awesome experience.. good vibes for sure.
I was expecting more markets/stalls then they were (the expectation was created by their website). There really weren't that much markets but there was a variety of food, crafts, clothing and all.
The set up itself really gives you that African feel.
The 'shed' is also such a nice piece of space.. super open and with natural light coming in through the ceiling/roof top.. It really create such a beautiful atmosphere.
The music/live bands were great in the beginning, but then got kinda sloppy... If there was once piece of advice I'd offer to the organizers it would be to have the music organized and well planed out to the T.
The music is essentially the entertainment and when that fails, what do we really have? music creates a certain vibe, especially live music.
And it is great that you do not need to be close to the stage to enjoy the live band. You just be chilling around a table with your friends listening to the band either in the shed or outside.
It a market to experience for sure!

Absolutely a beautiful space to mingle and socialise. The one thing that stood out for me was that their cocktails were really good 10/10.Their bathrooms were clean. Live performances 10/10 too!
The downside about the event is that it is actually not child friendly there’s a lot of alcohol consumption and people smoking hubbly. Most of the things being sold are overpriced including food & drinks! If you’re a lover of anything artsy you will definitely enjoy it. Review based on the event that took place 06 August 2022.

Wonderful space. An oasis in the middle of a busy town.
Its surprisingly spacious, with a stalls area where live bands perform, an outside area where kids can also play, as well as a beer hall where you can watch sports if you want.
The free parking was a plus.
The only thing I'd like to see is more beer variety. There were no craft beers or taps, just a few mainstream beers and ciders.
Overall I'd recommend it. Will be going back again.

Market @ the sheds is one of the sought after markets located in the Pretoria's central business district, in the heart of Pretoria. All sorts of items are sold ranging from beauty products, accessories & jewellery, clothing, food & beverages and a whole lot more. There's a live band playing music. The place is buzzing with people from all South African races. It's a melting pot of traditional and modern culture, it's the essence of South Africa. It's the first liveliest market I've ever been to which I attend every end of the month. The dates are announced on their website. Because there's entertainment, there's an entrance fee after a certain time of the day. The market is between 11am to 6pm. There's secured parking available with a boom gate and a security. There's also a ramp access for those using a wheel chair.

Great place to hike in PTA, birds and animals around. It is safe and pet friendly with a leash. One can go for a short walk around or hike up to the viewpoints, enjoy the view and make your way back down. The signage however needs to be replaced or updated. From the entrance office, the trail is almost flat. It is only when you approach the river Bridge that you begin to feel the climb almost instantly. But wait! You are heading to a real steep, a tough one on the foot of the mountain. It doesn't last forever, though. The views on top are worth the loss of breath. As you descent the hillside, you will be greeted by the canopy of plants, which can be a relief if the sun is blasting. Once in the forest, start paying close attention to the plants and birds. You will love it!
There is another mountain to climb still. The hill is steep with rocks, but take your time and enjoy the view while at it. Beautiful views there, too. From here, you can decide to go down to the river to listen to its thunder as the waters plunges on top of rocks. The trail leading there is wet, so you will feel like you are wearing high heels, gentlemen. You can spend some time there if you want to. I found out that there were not many birds, disappointing! I'm still recovering from the trauma of seeing two ladies bathing there in the nude without any care in the world. But anyway, that is a story for another day. Enjoy my experience through the attached pictures.

Experience nature on your doorstep, in the middle of the city! Easy hiking routes suitable forcthe whole family. The climb up the hill is steep, but no special fitness level is required if you take it easy. The view from the top is just reward for the effort to get there!

Not enough parking so you end up waiting at the gate until someone leaves. Slow service at entrance. Routes not well specified. It is clean though. You are able to take your dog with. No place to drink coffee or eat breakfast. Beautiful piece of land in the middle of the city.

This is a great place to go for a hike. Payment is card only (no cash). The the climb up is very steep - good for fitness. The view of Pretoria is absolutely beautiful. The trails are not marked clearly and really need to be replaced.
The area is fit for just hiking, because there is very little grass available for a picnic and there is no shade to sit under. There isn’t a vending machine, snack bar or coffee shop either.

Time to get out your walking boots, pack a small bag with water, some goodies to eat, sunblock, a hat and hit the hills, you decide your fitness level, no pressure, you can either go for a short walk by the river, views some animals, insects and beautiful flowers, or hike up the hill and enjoy the most exiting view overlooking, Faerie Glen, Lynwood and Menlyn… You can spend every other weekend exploring a different route… Fun for the whole family… Some paths are not wheel chair friendly…

Its a good hike, not too hot if you start at the left, up the hill. The hill is quite steep but paved. The walk back down is rocky but manageable. My 4 and 6 year old kids had no trouble completing the loop. Picnic areas available however there are lots of ants everywhere. I seen lots of friendly Zebras, lizards and birds.

The nature reserve is ok and clean; if you’re looking for some outdoor time and be away from the city within the city, for only R17 for entry (Card only - no cash). I was amped for the hike but I’m let down by the lack of maintenance.
The trails aren’t clearly marked and the distances aren’t accurate (except for the easy and straight-forward 2.3km trail). The other trails lack signs/markings but if you do happen to make up to both hills; the views are spectacular and refreshing - which gave me 7.4km’s of total hiking distance. If you’re lucky, too, you might come across some Zebra and other wildlife.
There’s a great picnic area for families/ or large groups available, and it’s pet friendly. A lot of potential but can be adventurous if you’re into exploring the reserve without any markings.
I’d recommend it for beginners starting off their hiking experience

Great outdoor adventure. Different routes and difficulty challenges. Up the hill is very steep - you will get tired. Lots of different grass species. Animals are awesome. Currently so beautiful and green. Bathrooms are provided at entrance before you start your walk. Take own water. Take a walking stick - I would recommend that. Loved the outing. Good exercise. Dog friendly … but you need a permit. Wasn’t too busy when I visited. Parking was good. Went as a guest with a friend - not sure what the fees are at the moment.

Went hiking with my friend and I have to say the views are amazing, the long hike was a bit difficult with all the climbing although it was soooo worth it. , the environment there is just beautiful and the scenery is amazing, absolutely loved it

Beautiful walks with changing landscapes. Dogs are allowed on leashes and the buck and zebra are extra special to see. Can have a picnic at the picnic benches near the entrance.

A wonderful time spent with nature… hiking trail are well kept. A bit of a challenge for unfit people like myself but manageable. Adequate benches to take a break.
Majestic Views of the East of Pretoria high up in the mountain. Spent like R34 for entry 1 adult 3 kids. Best you bring own snacks and drinks as there no convenient shop to purchase anything. Picnic area avail..

Beautiful and quiet and tranquil. Good exercise with beautiful views. You can take your family there and relax and have a good hike either on the mountain or easy walking.

This has easily become my favourite hiking spot. It’s reasonably priced (R20 per adult). The trails I’ve taken are a bit difficult especially when going all the way to the top but the views are extremely rewarding!

R20 entrance fee, no que
The trail is very nice and easy to walk, not much rocks and uneven terrain. Very calming and peaceful to take your mind away from every day stresses.
Beautiful picnic area.

R20 entrance fee, card only. They need to put up more clearer signage on the various paths. I got very lost. Most signs are blank. I feel like they should have more seating available along the routes. I saw lots of beautiful zebras, bucks, a tortoise and a huge lizard 🦓🦌🐢🦎

Nice hiking with a beautiful view, but it doesn’t have a lot of markings along the trail.

This place is clean and huge, the perfect place for beginners and experienced hikers. It's also quite, the best place to enjoy your hike or walk.

Beautiful trail. Not too challenging, but you need stamina for the uphill part. Clean and peaceful with a nice viewpoint over the river. The only downside is that the routes are not properly marked, the sun has taken its toll on most of the signs along the route and they have become unreadable.
The Ditsong Kruger Museum is an institution dedicated to the history of South Africa and features a collection of artefacts from the 19th century. The museum was home to Paul Kruger, who was the third president of South Africa.
When I waav visiting the house was alone I had to call my other friends to come and join

Very interesting place. Rooms are still in the way they were in the past. Old train used by mr Kruger is there as well.
When we visited the house we were the only guests, that was very special.

I wanted to visit the Kruger house museum. Unfortunately they already closed earlier than the open hours online said. So I just got the chance to see the house from outside. It is a historic manoir, not far from church square. The area felt rather safe.

Nothing special, just like every other house turned museum, old furniture and stuff. The furniture was also not authentic but a prop.

A bit of South African history with the fight against the English with Paul Kruger president at the lead.

Afrikaner history. Family House. Well restored. Takes about and hour to walk through and View. If you a history buff then this is for you.

Uncle Paul’s house, situated near the Pretoria downtown has not really much to offer but anyway is fine to visit. The house itself remains nicely prepared, you can see all his rooms and forniture, but despide the house, the rest is not really interesting. The price was excessive in my opinion.

Excellent heritage site. Learnt a bit of history that I previously didn't know about. Quite an experience to get a glimpse of how they lived at that period in time. I recommend visiting even though the curators could do a little better in maintaining the place and ensuring nothing anachronic is left lying about (e.g. network LAN cabling, modern plumbing in the main house etc.)

Museum has wonderful collection of artifacts from Kruger's life in South Africa. Sadly, entire estate has been allowed to deteriorate, badly in some areas. Serious deferred maintenance must be attended to soon, or damage will be irrepairable. Unfortunate that such an historically important residence has been allowed to fall into such poor condition.
