After delivering belongings at the apartment, an individual decided to spend the day in Knysna and visited The Heads, which is situated on a tall cliff above the point where the lagoon flows into the ocean. It provides a vantage point with a short walkway and beautiful vistas of Featherbed Nature Reserve. Regrettably, Featherbed had been impacted by one of several fires that ravaged the area during winter, leaving only charred remains where lush forests once stood.
Brenton-on-Sea, a charming seaside resort town located just 15km west of Knysna in the Western Cape province of South Africa, is a must-visit destination. Named after Sir Jahleel Brenton, this idyllic area is renowned for its laid-back atmosphere and stunning coastal views. Visitors can enjoy the sun-drenched shores, observe the endangered Brenton blue butterfly, and witness breathtaking sunsets.
The Featherbed Private Nature Reserve is a lush, limited-access reserve on the Western Head of Knysna. Only accessible via ferry, it is popular with tourists for its stunning scenery and wildlife. Highlights include sightings of the antelope Blue Duiker and Knysna Loerie, as well as plenty of other wild animals.
Brilliant experience, lovely views, great lunch for our group of 15 people. Even had a go at shooting seed balls with a slingshot to assist revegetation of the cliffs following a massive, devastating fire. Besides the eco side, shooting a seed ball and seeing it fly through the air is a pretty good feeling.

This was absolutely amazing . The whole experience from the ferry to the buffet lunch was great. You take a ferry from the Harbour to the west head . Upon arrival you take a 4x4 trip the top of the west head stopping at a few spots for fantastic photo opportunities. Then you walk down ( 2.2km ) alongside the mountain back to the main house where you are served with a 5 star buffet lunch . The walk down is not hard at all . The entire adventure has a scenic view from start to finish and the buffet lunch was easily the best I have ever had with a big variety of food choices. I would recommend this to everyone when they visit Knysna . Definitely worth every penny ... A must do ...

Had the most amazing time on their Eco tour to the Western head in Knysna. Helen is an amazing tour operator with a passion for nature. The lunch buffet was world class and the trip back to the waterfront was beautiful.

Featherbed nature reserve in my opinion is the best way to see the natural beauty of Knysna. The tour execution from start to finish is something to admire, friendly staff, restaurant with great food, knowledgeable tour guide on the boat and on the trip. I suggest taking the lunch tour and walking back to the restaurant is a must as you get to see the breathtaking views along the hike.

Featherbed Tours offered a 4 echo adventure special including a buffet lunch.
Featherbed have improved the place since the 2017 fire.
The guided tour is well worth it.
Buffet was delicious.
I'll be back.

Still just as beautiful as when I visited as a child, newly built structures due to the 2015 fires look awesome and welcoming. Breathtaking views. Weather wasn't great during the hike but still thoroughly enjoyed it!

My experience was absolutely amazing! The tour guides, Collin and Sue were great. Such lovely people; very friendly, very professional and very informed. I enjoyed every single part of it, including the walk up the hill to the restaurant. Speaking of the restaurant, the three-course buffet was to die for. I haven't eaten food that wonderfully-prepared in a long time. The weather was perfect, as well. It was a 4-hour tour across the lagoon to the restaurant, all for R600 per person, which means for 3 people it'll probably be around R1800. For the experience I had, I must say it's quite affordable. Well done on the pricing 👏🏾🔥🔥🔥. I don't know what the 1-hour ferry tour is like, but I would definitely recommend the 4-hour ferry tour to anyone who wants to visit Knysna. I would also recommend coming during the May month as anytime before or after then will be too hot or too cold. Well done to the entire Featherbed Nature Reserve Boat Tours team👏🏾🔥❤️

My family and I had a wonderful morning on the Featherbed reserve with our guide, Colin. Starting with a fresh but relaxing boat ride, we were told about the lagoon, local area history, and origins of the reserve. Upon arriving at the beautiful reserve, we had a short break and quick walk up to the vehicle, before being taken up to the top of the headland to glorious views of East Head, the lagoon and open sea. Next was a downhill walk back to Featherbed base, with a stop off to the beautiful sea caves. It's a stunning walk. You get up close and personal with the plants, and we saw some beautiful birds. The last section along the shore is particularly stunning. We finished back at the restaurant with a buffet lunch, which was excellent, with lots of choices. After lunch, we had time to dip our toes in the water (very chilly) before being taken back to base by the boat. After a few very active days, it was a wonderful relaxing experience in a beautiful area. Highly recommended for all ages and abilities. Bring layers (cold on boat, hot on walk). Thanks very much!

This was an amazing outing and experience. The boat trip across the lake to the nature reserve, the drive up the mountain and the awesome 2.2km scenic walk back to the boat. Quick drink and food and back to the mainland. 3 to 4 hours trip. Totally worth it and we will do it again. Thanks for this awesome experience.

Great place to visit. Travelled across estuary in lovely clean boat, with an entertaining commentary. Then walked from jetty at Featherbed up a hill to where transport was waiting to take us up the hill. Short stop for magnificent views across the estuary. At the top, we then commenced a guided walk back down to the restaurant where a nice lunch awaited us. (Those with mobility issues were taken up and fown on a golf cart so that they didn't miss out). Lovely clean environment, well maintained, a pleasure to visit.

What an experience this was on the John Benn! A bit pricy but it comes with the territory, of course.
It's literally as advertised, a floating restaurant. You can sit wherever you want [depending on when you board the boat], and once you're in your seat you can sit back, relax and enjoy the beautiful views of Knysna [Nice-na] all around you!
A trip you ABSOLUTELY must do if you're in Knysna for a few days!

Incredible day with Johannesburg, Shaquille, Collin, Julius, and the boat driver (wish I could remember his name). It was very entertaining and well laid out. You should be able to walk about 2 miles with changing terrain to do this walk. You will be offered a trekking stick…take it! Make sure to hydrate on warm days. The views are beautiful and picturesque. Collin was a great guide and incredibly attentive to his customers during the walk. Lunch onsite was a delicious buffet. Wonderful!

Oh wow, this is a must do experience for anyone visiting South Africa and especially the garden route. It has a ferry ride with entertaining guides talking about the history of the area. Access on and off the boat is easy. Then a great 4x4 truck ride up the mountain, sit on the left side for best views. After that you can return with the truck or hike back to the restaurant down the hill. It's tough but I managed and I have dodgy knees and am not fit, just take it slow. The views and flora are incredible. After all the excersize, you have a delicious buffet lunch, beers and wine are available for your account. Amazing day out.

Well worth the asking price.
Get a nice boat cruise there, information on the history of the area , with a wonderful walk in nature with a delicious lunch.
Staff from the boat skipper to guides to waiters are all very friendly and professional.
Would definitely do it again as we locals.
Lagoon Lodge is a modest accommodation option that offers free WiFi and a deck with beautiful views of the Knysna River estuary. The location of this lodge is ideal, as every room provides a stunning view of the Knysna Lagoon. Situated high against the hillside, guests can enjoy a beautiful perspective on this wonderful town. The staff at Lagoon Lodge are known for being amazing hosts, and are always happy to provide loads of information about the area and activities in the vicinity.
My dad and I had the most amazing stay here, the managers are the most helpful I've ever come across even planning out the most amazing days for us by advising us on where to go. Breakfast was delicious, the rooms are clean and with a beautiful view of the lagoon. 100% would recommend!!

The room that we booked ended up being a little disappointing. It was quite a bit smaller then it appeared in the pictures and the room requires some maintenance. The provided coffee in the room was Chicory, and the provided salt and pepper shaker was broken. The kitchenette was hardly stocked with anything, the time screen on the microwave was broken, a ceramic portion of the toilet was broken, the TV remote had dead batteries when we got there, and the bathroom door required a large amount of force to open or close it. That being said, it is in a good location, with an excellent restaurant (Muse) across the road. There is an in-room safe, and the view of the lagoon is absolutely stunning (picture attached). There is a provided breakfast as well that is quite good with another beautiful view of the lagoon.
Nevertheless, the lodge's manager is truly the best part of this place. He was friendly and welcoming. He walked us up to the room and offered to help with our luggage. He then informed us of the history of Lagoon Lodge, and ensured that we had everything we needed. We forgot to select the breakfast option during our booking, but knowing this, he was quick to offer us breakfast on the house for our first morning. He then personally took our orders and proceeded to come join us at the table with a map where he showed us several locations that we could go explore. He brought a laptop and showed us pictures, and told us everything that we may encounter on our journey.
This manager made this stay quite enjoyable and he pointed us towards some incredible views. He is a very friendly guy and makes Lagoon Lodge a very enjoyable experience.

The staff here are truly amazing. The location is perfect. You have a view of the Knysna Lagoon form every room. The whole lodge is perched high against the hillside, with a beautiful perspective on this wonderful town. Appels is the best host you could want. He had loads of information about the area and activities in the vicinity. The breakfast here is properly good. Jams, eggs the way you like them, fried mushrooms, lots of bacon, toast and the famous omelettes and the very delicious French toast.
This place had a proper soul and hospitality takes on a new meaning here. Highly highly recommended.

Had a lovely weekend stay at the lodge which is managed by the friendly and super efficient Appel that nothing is too much trouble for where guests are concerned. It's perfect location of being situated directly in front of the lagoon and a wooden deck with Knysna Heads views for me was just perfect and I would have been happy to spend the entire weekend on that deck. Knysna itself is even a short walk away.
I'm looking forward to going back.
Buffels Bay is a charming coastal town situated in the Western Cape province of South Africa, approximately 20 km from Knysna. The village is renowned for its picturesque beach that extends to the east, also known as Buffelsbaai. It serves as a popular vacation destination with a small waterfront comprising several shops. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks along the shoreline, taking in the stunning scenery and soaking up the sun's warmth.
Peace of Eden is an ecolodge that offers rustic-chic cottages and retro tents for accommodation. The lodge provides vegan and vegetarian meals, and guests can enjoy various activities during their stay. Located in a central location to explore the Garden Route, it is near several places of interest such as Knysna and the Elephant Park. Visitors have had enjoyable experiences at Peace of Eden, with exceptional friendly hosts providing clean, tidy and relaxing accommodations.
I will always remember the time we spent at Peace of Eden it was a very enjoyable week . Our hosts were exceptional friendly, we wanted for nothing.
The accommodation was clean, tidy and very relaxing, Peace of Eden lives up to its name.
We enjoyed our trips out to Knysna and the surrounding places on interest including the nearby Elephant Park. One day I hope to return for another memorable experience.

Our stay at Peace of Eden was extremely disappointing.
We stayed here on the 7th & 8th July '23 for the Oyster festival.
It was a very cold weekend and the unit water was only luke warm. After we asked the host to please fix the water we were told it is hot enough and nothing was wrong.
We had to boil water in pots on the stove to try and have a warm bath. We eventually abandoned the bathing as the water was very brown and VERY unpleasant and not hot enough. No one wanted to shower as the shower was "gross".
I slept in one of the upstairs beds. My bed was very hard and very uncomfortable. The sheets also had stains in them. The pillows were really thin and not nice. It was a very cold weekend and there were no extra blankets in the cupboards. I ended up sleeping with long pants and jackets.
I have travelled extensively across our beautiful country and this rates as my most unpleasant stay.
But the worst part of our stay was after we left. The chalet was left in a very reasonable tidy state. Dirty dishes were scraped clean and left very neatly next to the sink with no scraps in. The chalet was swept well and the dirt left in a neat pile ( we could not pick it up as there was no brush and scoop) All the rubbish was put in the bin.
We are a very decent clean family and always leave the place neat behind us. There was no black bag in the bin, there was no scoop & brush to pick up dirt after we swept, and also no cleaning stuff for the bath as the brown water leaves the bath in a terrible state.
We were then shocked when the hosts complained about how bad we left the chalet in.
I cannot recommend this place at all.

I absolutely loved my stay at Peace Of Eden. It was at a time I really needed it. Going on walks in the forest during my postpartum, was magical. It was a home far away from home. It was self healing in all aspects. I adored the support of the community. Doing yoga on the porch and life checking in's with Jen, I hold these memories dear to my heart. I loved the distance between the town center and the lodge - lots of nature and wildlife, like a sacred dome. I know we would have explored more if we had our own vehicle, but the local taxi worked out great for our normal food and essential runs. We didn't need a vehicle because most of our basic needs were met comfortably - we ordered our locally grown fruits, vegetables and baked goods from local farmers and they delivered on our doorstep. the internet was high quality, most of the people in the community was nomads including myself and my partner - what a life! I highly recommend the getaway or the stay!

Jen, Howard and Jess are the custodians of what is truly a peace of eden :) also some epic hikes just down the road - most beautiful hikes in the Garden Route!

Eish! A bit of a disappointment to be honest. We stayed on the only campsite offered and friends were in one of the cottages. This campsite is definitely not child friendly, there are no jungle gyms etc and during the booking process the owner expressed concerns about children damaging the floors of the cottage, no one needs that stress when on holiday with children. The amenities for the campsite are sweet and very rustic, one can poo with a view into the forest from any of the 3 toilets, it's mighty chilly at night however. The showers are a challenge as they use gas water heaters but there's no cold tap so one has to adjust the temp on the unit, not fun when one is already wet and freezing. The kitchen facilities are good, with electricity available and a gas cook top but apparently the water isn't drinkable, we weren't warned of this and there are no signs to this effect, our friends staying the cottage were warned not to drink the water, no ill effects yet so here's hoping. The owner wasn't terribly helpful when the fridge in the cottage malfunctioned ruining a lot of fresh produce. There are charming Vervet monkeys that visit the campsite and so I imagine that this is the excuse as the why no bin was provided for us to use but monkey proof bins are a thing and a bin is essential at a campsite let's face it. Their rates for camping are on the very expensive side and one isn't getting anything to justify that premium. All in all the place feels tired like the owners have run out of steam, fortunately nature put on a lovely show for us with visits from Knysna Loeries and an abundance of other bird life and the monkey's of course which made up for our lacklustre stay.

Best vegan dinner ever! We dined at Peace of Eden with four people (reserved a day before) and it was just spectaculair. Jeni made us a delicious two course dinner, which was served on a serene terrace that looked out upon a beautiful forest. The dinner was cooked from local, organic ingredients as well as "secret", meaning that the menu was a surprise for us. Jeni and Howard were super considerate and hospitable; we had the feeling we were dining at a friend's place. We would 100% recommend to visit Peace of Eden, it was one of the best experiences of our holiday, and next time we will book our rooms here as well!

This place is a gem discovered. The Tent was clean and tidy. Gym took us down to show us everything like the well equipped kitchen with the beautiful fairy lights and the ferns in the vases took you back to the green around you. The Toilets were clean and very artisticly build to bring you back to your roots. A open window into the forest in the one toilet was a spectacular view. The tents were far enough from each other to have decent privacy. The deck at your tent with those views were spectacular.. Gym made us the most extravagant Crepe with fruits and a dash of coconut oil breakfast, the best vegan breakfast I had in a long time. All bad reviews needs to be egnored in my opinion as I only discovered friendly staff, a clean and tidy place and wonderful host of this property. This place I rank on the top ten of my travel list.

I spent two months at beautiful Peace of Eden, and simply fell in love. It's a 15-20 min drive to Knysna town and the Sedgefield market, various beaches and stunning hikes. A myriad of birdlife, butterflies, insects and frogs, monkeys playing in the nearby trees (they do not bug you if you keep foods out of sight), baboons safely being able to visit their forest, I was in heaven. To be in a meat and dairy-free environment enhanced my sense of safety, and deepened my love for this very special place. Jen and Howard are gorgeous darlings, always helpful, always happy to share their Peace of Eden with nature- and animal lovers. I will go back in a heartbeat, to work, to play, to simply be. And next time I might stay forever.

The Knysna Gin Distillery & Brewery & Cocktailbar is a popular destination for gin enthusiasts and tourists alike. The distillery, located on Uil Street, has been using traditional methods of distillation with copper pot and flame since 2018. Their award-winning Knysna Gin is made with spring water from the Witteberg Mountains and nine natural botanicals, including unique ingredients like almonds from Sedgefield and num-nums from Knysna.

The 7 Passes Scenic Drive offers a beautiful but challenging route, with gravel roads that may be rough and require a 4x4 in rainy conditions. The area is perfect for hiking, cycling, or driving through, offering lush greenery and stunning views of Knysna and the lagoon. The drive is a mix of tarred and dirt roads, so it's important to take your time.

Overrated. Not sure how I missed the fact that this is mostly a gravel road...whoops. My family was not impressed with the bumpy, dusty ride. Some sections run through native forest, but much of it is through pastureland, farmland, and tree plantations, some of which have been clearcut. A pleasant enough drive for those who have the time, but nothing epic. Sorta wish I'd taken the N2 instead.

Our native carnivorous plants are really something special 💚💚. Here are two Sundew species found in Pledge - the taller stemmed 𝘋𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘢 𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘭𝘰𝘳𝘢 with flowers, and the undescribed Drosera sp. Knysna which is flattened against the ground with tall flower stalk raised far away from the leaves. Notice the sticky mucilage drops secreted from the leaves which lure, trap and dissolve their tiny prey items! 🦟🐜🪰 One can understand where the common name of Sundew comes from. Beautiful and serene. This is a definite go back and visit again place as there is so much to do and see that one just cannot do in one visit.

Most of the trail was nice but towards the end it does get overgrown. We saw tortoises and a buck. Be prepared for biting flies and tall grass.

This place gets full points and 5 stars in my opinion....if u r the outdoor type and enjoy nature and doing kayaking and fishing and hiking and non motorized watersports along rivers and estuaries with direct access to the beachand venturing slightly of the beaten track then this comfortable well priced accommodation is not to be overlooked.

I visited Goukamma on the free access week. Had a wonderful family braai. Sunny, beautiful water. The braai facilities are very clean and the bathrooms are clean and comfortable to use. The hiking routes are fun and easy to follow.

Our first time to Goukamma Nature Reserve. We booked Blacktail chalet - 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom. The signs getting to our accommodation must be improved - we kept missing the little slip road to the right. We missed the gate closing time and struggled to get hold of the emergency contact people. After calling several times we did manage to get hold of Thulani who came to our rescue. We loved our stay. We did the Buffels Bay trail - 5km - we started our hike at the restaurant area, walked along the beach. The trail signs were also not well marked - Cape Nature staff should die these hikes and make improvements. That said, The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. We loved the outdoors here and would definitely want to come back for a longer stay to enjoy the hikes. There's some restaurants outside the reserve. Beautiful sunsets. Prolific bird life. Beautiful views from our chalet. The hot tub was fun and we could see the moon and the stars. Note. Only eco logs are allowed here. They didn't have any at the campsite so we had to drive 38km to the Knysna Spar to get them. I recommend you call the Spar to check if they have stock - otherwise buy at your nearest store to avoid frustration.
We still did have such a fabulous time here and want to come back soon

Beautiful hike through the fynbos with great views of the coastline. Adventurous river crossing by pulling your boat over yourself.

Wonderful hiking and walking reserve. Fairly well maintained. Little boat to cross the Goukamma River to start one's hike needs a little maintenance and life-jackets need to be replaced.

A beautiful unspoilt beach with a boardwalk leading down from the parking area. Fishing is permitted and it's safe to swim.

Lovely wild and peaceful area along side the body of water leading out to sea. Great place to relax and unwind. Ablutions at hand with seated areas under trees for shade with braai stands ready for the traditional braai and beverage.
Canoes to hire for self navigating the body of water.
Margarets Viewpoint is a stunning viewpoint overlooking Knysna and the Knysna River, as well as the Garden Route, from which you can see fabulous sunrise and sunset views. The view is especially peaceful and idyllic, and it's a great place to take in a scenic picnic lunch.
It is one of the best view point in Knysna city and area. It is a good tourist attraction. This view point has a gorgous view for Knysna central, waterfront, Thesen island, Leisure island, and Knysna lagoon. It is best to come to this viewpoint on the afternoon of a sunny day especially if the sky is clear and no fogs. It has many chair to sit and enjoy the nice view. Don't forget your camera.

The best view in Knysna, maybe even the whole Garden route. Best of all is that it doesn't require any effort. Simply drive to the parking and walk 50m to the edge. Thereafter, simply drive down the road and walk on the beach you just viewed from a 100m up. Amazing!

Lovely view of Knysna, Belvedere, and the quays. Free parking is plentiful and it’s a nice place to visit for a quick view. The drive up is nice too. It wasn’t so busy when we got there, around 10:30am on a Tuesday. The benches were skewed and uncomfortable so maybe bring your own!

This is a beautiful church. The church's grounds have signposts with Biblical references for you to meditate upon as you walk. You can't help but notice how old the church is as you walk through the grounds, as there are memorial and gravestones that are dated many years back. The chapel itself is quite nice.

What a gem in the town of Knysna! Over 150 motorcycles restored and showcased in a warehouse on Thesen Island.
And "Savannah" of Itchy Boots fame's trusty Honda has arrived in her new home. We were so excited to see her after watching the final stage of the Kalahari Rally on YouTube the night before.
The Motorcycle Room is definitely worth a visit - Norman has so much knowledge about the bikes.
